Liveblog: Canadiens hand Devils first loss

A note to fans of the liveblog: There have been some problems with the HIO site being a bit slow during games this season due to high traffic. The Gazette and our HIO technical staff are aware of the problem and we’re working on a solution to fix it.

There were 38 seconds left in overtime when Andrei Markov scored on a Canadiens power-play to secure a hard-fought 4-3 win.
The Canadiuens had blown a 3-1 third-period lead.
It was Markov’s fourth goal of the young season.

The Devils came into the Bell Centre as the only undefeated team in the Eastern Conference.

Martin Brodeur had given up only three goals through his first three starts.

BIG win.

What a difference a year makes:

It took the Canadiens 10 starts to secure their third win last season.

Cole on third goal & Gorges not looking so good on the last two goals…..

  3. Rooster says:

We need less dd/cole/Eller and more gally

  4. HNS says:

    Thank you Mr. Softie…..

  5. jctremblay says:

Hope they can at least salvage a point here…

Cole, play some defense please and tie your man up

  8. bleublancrouge says:

Can we just scratch eller thanks

I would change my name to bluewhitered but I don’t want to start a controversy

  9. HardHabits says:

Last two goals Price not holding the post.

    *ducks for cover*

Mind you the last two goals displayed numerous break downs in play on the Habs side.

    • HabinBurlington says:

I can see that on the last one, but the powerplay goal he made the pad save coming from other post and it was then chipped in, I don’t follow?

      • HardHabits says:

He left a huge gap between his skate and the post on the PP goal. It wasn’t soft per se but had he moved over to the post rather than leave that gap the save would’ve been made. Nobody’s perfect. Can’t save them all.

  10. commandant says:

Cole has to cover him in front of the net…. watching.

  17. Propwash says:

@ Boone, I figured the dance contest was a best seizure competition.

  18. Adidess says:

Both high sticks were legitimate. One just wishes the refs would have seen only one…

  19. Strummer says:

Markov at 22:25 TOI so far.

    What a monster!
“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

  20. jctremblay says:

First time watching the Habs this year..they look snappy. Definately playing with a little swagger and confidence in comparison to many games last year. But they will be sorely tested with this condensed schedule.Better get Cole et al scoring soon.

  21. Stormin says:

    Eller looks depressed

  22. HabinBurlington says:

Amen Boone about the JM 3rd period shell!

  23. tbonesr says:

Dont start that oleoleole shit yet!!! On carey bar the door.

  24. Mondou6 says:

Honestly, we totally deserve to win this game. We have 3 legit goals, the NJ goals were a fluke bounce and a free gift from the refs. WTF.

  25. tbonesr says:

Dont start that oleoleole shit yet!!! On carey bar the door

  26. HabinBurlington says:

Excellent shift by Armstrong and White and Moen

  27. Ice Storm says:

Even after what Therrien said the other day…. Eller is playing on the perimeter right now… In more ways than one

  28. Boomer says:

The games we lose this year Will not be because of a single player’s lack of results or because of effort…
It will most likely be because of undisciplined penalties

  29. Habbu says:

    18 & he’s only gonna get better.

  30. Mondou6 says:

Total phantom call on Chucky…Even the NJ announcers were baffled about what was called there.

  31. SouthOttawaHabFan says:

It’s like they punish Chucky and Prust for scoring…..

it would be nice if somone would knock the ref on his ass

  32. Ice Storm says:

Moen was weak in front on that….

  33. Mavid says:

why did we get 2 penalties…

  34. commandant says:

I saw Prust’s high stick, but what did Chuk do?

    Dag nab it!

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  36. NLhabsfan says:

I hate it when refs decide the game score.

  37. 25insight says:

YES!!! Glachenyuk has proved himself as NHL caliber this game, Gallagher too! Goals from White AND Prust! Playoff race, here we come! I was starting to see the old lead conservation in the 2cd period, Therrien really lit a fire underneath this guy for the 3rd! Good team spirit.

  38. lavie says:

Too bad, I missed that goal. 🙁

  39. cojohnso80 says:

I love it when we get to see how awesome Price is!!!

  40. Boomer says:

    Sticks on the ice boys

iS THE REF A DEVILS FAN?!?!????!?!?!?!?!

  43. habsfaninboston says:

Gally in the sin bin. Bench him!

  44. SouthOttawaHabFan says:

  45. Stormin says:

    In God we Prust

  46. jols101 says:

Only question that remains about Galchenyuk is which Vet is he going to live with?

    • FunkyCrabChairNF says:

Should be Plekanec in my opinion. He’s our best all-around forward if you take “veteranship” into account. Cole is a baby, and he might retire, ya know.

  47. HardHabits says:

The Habs have had a hard time finding secondary scoring since quite a while now. Always one line. Now the Habs have secondary, tertiary and quaternary scoring.

  48. Strummer says:

    In Prust We Trust

    All others pay cash!

Prust!!! C”mon how can you not Love this guy?

  53. sirs81 says:

I think we have a new number one line lol….

  54. Danno says:

Brodeur is Prustrated by that goal

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

What sweet hands by our boy Chucky

  58. habsfaninboston says:

    That was sweet!

  59. Harditya says:

  60. JayK-47 says:

If this was last year, Eller would have been traded between periods, Colby would be on the 1st line, Kaberle and Bouillon would be running the power play, Gallagher would now be benched, the Habs would be lined up on their blue line repelling wave after wave of Devil forays until they collapsed with exhaustion in the early part of the 3rd turning their 2-1 lead into a solid 4-2 loss.

  61. ZepFan2 says:

    Ka is a wheel.

    For Your Life

  62. HabinBurlington says:

What a feed by Galchenyuk, that is what elite players do!

  63. Propwash says:

  64. aj says:

By the way, I was watching Patrick Elias being interviewed in MSG. It looks like he loves playing here at the Bell Centre. Also, he’s a UFA next season.

  65. SouthOttawaHabFan says:

Gally 0-5 on faceoffs, maybe we should just forget about him as a center and concentrate on developing him as a winger……

  66. Mavid says:

Sens lost..good…thats 2 in a row..maybe that will shut them up for a few days at least…

  67. Rudy says:

That link worked, thank you!! So thrilled for the kids

  68. LizardKing1967 says:

Ok. When do AG27 and DD switch places. Love to see Galchenyuk on 1st line.

Drive for 25. 2012-2013. Max-Pac for Conn Smyth.

  69. SlovakHab says:

What level of competition did DD play against last season?
Were they sheltered, while Plekanec and partially Eller played against top lines?

    • aj says:

I think with Therrien’s way of coaching and his style probably the reason why Patches, DD, Cole are having a hard time playing. They need to get used to the system. Too bad, its only a shortened season to do some fixing.

      • SlovakHab says:

DD is simply coming crashing down to earth. He had a fluke season last year, playing with team’s best wingers. 1 sole skill (passing in his case) is not enough in NHL.

  70. jols101 says:

I tell you what I am loving Bourque. What a difference from last year. He is working like a dog. Not paying off for him yet tonight but the effort is undeniable.

Oh ya, remove DD line from PP, insert Chucky’s line.
