Liveblog: Canadiens hand Devils first loss

160207390_slide

A note to fans of the liveblog: There have been some problems with the HIO site being a bit slow during games this season due to high traffic. The Gazette and our HIO technical staff are aware of the problem and we’re working on a solution to fix it.

There were 38 seconds left in overtime when Andrei Markov scored on a Canadiens power-play to secure a hard-fought 4-3 win.
The Canadiuens had blown a 3-1 third-period lead.
It was Markov’s fourth goal of the young season.

The Devils came into the Bell Centre as the only undefeated team in the Eastern Conference.

Martin Brodeur had given up only three goals through his first three starts.

BIG win.

What a difference a year makes:

It took the Canadiens 10 starts to secure their third win last season.

Okay thought I snapped the new hampsters leg earlier during a refresh, but it appears to have a tensor wrap on it now, seems to be holding out for the moment.

  2. showey47 says:

Great rush by cole to draw one.

  3. Stormin says:

If the score stays like this maybe we can get Colby Armstrong an empty netter

  4. tbonesr says:

Who remembers the Zzp line when Zunrus ayed for habs?

  5. commandant says:

Diaz getting caught flat footed at the blue line caused that penalty.

Too early to celebrate but … Wow! I feel like Therrien is really cleaning up the mess created by the category five Martin-Gauthier shitstorm. Just think … They would have benched Gallagher for scoring, made Gomez the trainer and put Price on left wing. Is it just me or do we have 4 lines and special teams?
Side note: Markov is the best role model; he keeps his mouth shut and plays for the team. Subban went down in my books. Is he just in it for the loot?

    Habs looking good

Even Sarnia is feeling the Sting of Galchenyuk’s excellence now

Still plenty of hockey to be played. Don’t get cocky boys and keep up the pressure. Keep playing our game and don’t take the foot off the gas!

…any Good Soul in Habby Land with a stream for this game ???

…thought I was smart not renewing RDS and subscribing to NHL Centre Ice

…got smacked with cold-water finding it does NOT cover all NHL broadcasts (ie Devils Canadiens today :( )

…so kinda groveling for any One here with a stream

…thank You from the other end of Canada, …and may Your night be memorable …no matter what suasion You are :)

Eller playing with that intensity Therrien’s been looking for, hope he keeps it up, hes actually hitting every time

  17. 24moreCups says:

What a steal for a player drafted in the 5th round.

  18. Habbu says:

Seems like I’ve waited decades to see a couple of young Habs make a play like that.

  19. CharlieHodgeFan says:

Even last season, I had a nagging feeling that every time Price came up against a hot goalie, or against someone like Brodeur, he would give up one more goal than his rival.
This year, he looks different. I think Price may finally be where he has threatened to go for a few seasons. He is the real thing.

The Habs will lose close games and be beaten by hot goalies, but Price is now at least as good as anyone he will face. I do believe he has finally arrived.

  20. JayK-47 says:

If this was last year, Gallagher would now be benched, the Habs would be lined up on their blue line repelling wave after wave of Devil forays until they collapsed with exhaustion in the early part of the 3rd turning their 2-0 lead into a solid 4-2 loss.

  21. Importantly, will the boys keep playing hard and not protect a lead. I hated that last year with JM. Always a nail biter, let’s hope this year it’ll be 60 full minutes.

Great to see the complete joy in both Gally’s faces. Also great to see Therrien give Gallagher a nice pat on the back. I just wonder would JM have done that?

  53. SouthOttawaHabFan says:

“no one will ever mistake Markov for Bill Gadsby”

that may be true, but Markov is no wimp, I’ve seen him dish out the lumber in front of the net on multiple occasions.

Pleks a real pest on the P.K.

  55. Great start this season for the boys. Let’s keep this up. GO HABS GO

  56. Why is Weber playing? He sucked last year and sucks this year already.

  68. Stormin says:

Ryan give an assist to Max Pac, because you were probably headed to the press box until appendicitis night took over

Now that White scored, I just want the world to know I was not thinking he should be in the press box, no matter what I was actually thinking. No Siree.
