Liveblog: The winning streak is over

It was fun while it lasted.
The Senators blew the game open in the second period while Ryan White was serving a double-minor for roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct.
PP goals by Habs-killer Daniel F. Alfredsson and Mika Zibanejad made it 3-1.
Then Chris Phillips capped off a period of total dominance by the Chris Neil line to give the Senators a three-goal lead.
Three goals on Peter Budaj in 3:35, and the Canadiens never recovered … although there some quality shots on Craig Anderson.
Chris Neil iced the cake with a wraparound late in the third period.

The game included two first-period fights and a parade to the penalty box that sabotaged any rhythm or flow to the action.

  1. Habitant in Surrey says:

…’slashing’ is/should be all about when You are using Your stick on the body

    • twilighthours says:

See I disagree. Your stick is for playing the puck, nothing else. I don’t like it when a player slashes a stick or body just because he’s a step too slow.

  2. FlyAngler says:

Kozari is a clown. His diving call on Prust last night was just as bad as the call on Bourque. Noone should get him two nights in a row……..

  3. Habs Proud says:

White needs a game or two off, for being stupid

    • donmarco says:

Did the same thing against Florida. Nobody complained then. But they didn’t give up 2 goals either. I agree, White needs to sit for a while.

      • Habs Proud says:

I know what you mean and I understand he has a role to play so give him the first penalty cause thats what he does but the second one for running his mouth in a game where they are calling everything is plain stupid.

  4. Strummer says:

    Capitol Meltdown!

“It’s just an opinion – I could be wrong”

  5. CharlieHodgeFan says:

    I’m looking for positives here.

That ref has an interesting nose.

  6. Habitant in Surrey says:

…I don’t understand all the mickle and dime ‘slashing’ penalties on sticks

  7. hockeydoc says:

Sure White takes the stupidest of penalties but what has happened to the pk of last year? Was Gill that important?

  8. smiley says:

RYAN WHITE-go to the dressing room and change into your civvies and get OFF THE TEAM!!!!

  9. Danno says:

You can bet if PK was on the ice he would get all the blame for tonight’s stink-o-rama performance for destroying the chemistry etc.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  10. Barts says:

Hahahaha, there’s the make up, cause they know they blew the call on Bourque.

  11. showey47 says:

Boone was right, bourque held up and anderson did a good job selling it.

  12. HardHabits says:

I knew I shouldn’t have put the summer caterpillars on the Tankā„¢ so early.

  13. L Elle says:

    What a nice dive Craigie

  14. PeterD says:

Still thinking the team would be better with Subban in the line up.

  15. jctremblay says:

First “getting run out of the rink” of the season. Probably a good wakeup call for them…I don’t think they’ve had a decent shot on goal in the 2nd period…O well..back to backs are brutal..and the SEns get more calls in their building than most teams. But we got caught with a lot of retaliation penalties and you can’t win doing that.

  16. RockinRey says:

Wonder if Therrien reads them the riot act?! Might as well tinker with line combos and take it easy on Markov and lighten his load for the weekend matchups..

  17. topher5468 says:

Hows that interference, has to be tripping right?

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  18. Danno says:

Mama said there’d be days like this

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  19. Adidess says:

    Could we look more discombobulated?

  20. Propwash says:

Therrien is gonna tear somebody a new one

    • JohnBellyful says:

Not the new Therrien. The guys he sits during the game because of poor play, he makes them stand up in the dressing room during the intermission.

  21. Habitant in Surrey says:

…Sens are the kinds of teams that shows-up DD’s limitations most clearly

…love Him, but not as first-line centre

  22. mrhabby says:

Went away for 5 min and sens take over…christ.

    Neal still an asshole.

  23. Mondou6 says:

Now that the refs gave the Sens two goals on the double minor, they appear content to let us get mugged for the rest of the game with nothing further called.

  24. habsfan0 says:

I wonder who l’Antichambre crew will pin this one on tonight?

    My guess is PK.

  25. WhatUp says:

s.o.s. note to Therrien: why waste Eller on 4th – he should be rested. perfect time to get him to center DD and Cole – and please please please get PK back asap..

  26. JohnBellyful says:

The Tank — the one that was rolling over the competition — seems to have slipped a tread.

  27. Habfan10912 says:

Give the kids some extra ice. Let them have some fun.

  28. CharlieHodgeFan says:

It’s early in the game, and there’s plenty of time for a come back. Or to lose 8-1.

White is playing dumb hockey. Let’s see Blunden soon.

  29. Danno says:

Time to pull out all stops and see what happens

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  30. nova scotia vees says:

What bush league announcers on TSN. What did White do? Personally, I don’t know why we have to have White, Prust and Armstrong. One of those is enough. Finally….still happy with keeping P.K. out of the line-up guys???

  31. habsfan0 says:

Will Boo Die get a start in either game this weekend?

I wouldn’t bet on it, after tonight.

  32. savethepuck says:

Is there anybody in a white sweater playing good at all?

“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
    Carey Price

  33. Habbu says:

Too tired to skate, so they stand still, which inevitability leads to goals against………can’t win them all.

  34. Habitant in Surrey says:

…can’t put this on Budaj …score wouldn’t be different with Carey

  35. Barts says:

Take your time getting PK back in there, don’t worry, next week, whatever. Give me a f’n break. PK is better without a practice than ANYTHING we have on the ice, including Markov. At least he has the strength to win the battles in front of the net.

  36. VancouverHab says:

Full-on slapshot from a yard out — better not blame Budaj.

  37. youngwun says:

Price would of saved all those goals . Except maybe alfreds.

  38. Ryan White is an idiot.
    No excuses?
Then sit him down until he grows a brain.
How many games will he cost us before he smartens up?
    Ch EJ

  39. silversnake says:

Bench white and put blunden in next game. Too many dumb penalties and this is in the 3rd game. This time it cost us.

  40. Propwash says:

Now to battle through some adversity. A good test for the team.

  41. Habilis says:

    Stupid reality.

  42. HardHabits says:

When did Aebischer sneak into this game?

  43. sirs81 says:

We wont win every game…. All the pp sens have are killing us….

  44. Habfan10912 says:

Anybody who wants to defend Kabrele should watch the Sens 4th goal. Disgustingly soft.

  45. Habitant in Surrey says:

…Our Habs are coming down to Earth

    …Sens big physical and skilled

  46. habsfan0 says:

I’m no mathematician, but I think Boo Die’s GAA is taking a beating tonight.

  47. Danno says:

Price is so vital to our success

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  48. savethepuck says:

    Thanks Whitey!

  49. Haberoooo13 says:

I like Moen a lot, but if Eller left Phillips unattended like that what would happen?

Na Na Na Les Canadiens Les Canadiens

  50. Adidess says:

Poor Budaj, nothing he can really do.

  51. jedimyrmidon says:

So… Can we get PK in for our PK!? Don’t stall, MT!

  52. Harditya says:

Tough game for Budaj.. watching these last few goals.. definitely not his fault.

  53. SKHab says:

    At 1-4 they look lost.

  54. Barts says:

Hey, ya wanna call the timeout you should’ve called after the last goal Mike, ya big dummy.

  55. Bill says:

Or maybe it is. How about a time out??

  56. Mike D says:

Wasn’t this supposed to be Carey’s night off?

  57. Propwash says:

    Game over man…

  58. Steven says:

How long till the media blame the loss on PK’s signing?

  59. Bill says:

Difference from last year? This isn’t over.

  60. Haberoooo13 says:

White 2 minutes for Phillips holding your stick and 2 minutes for complaining

Na Na Na Les Canadiens Les Canadiens

  61. Habitant in Surrey says:

…there will many more of those in future from Mika Z

  62. Mike D says:

So….who takes White’s spot in the line-up next game?

    – Honestly yours
    Twitter: @de_benny

  63. habsfan0 says:

If it wasn’t for the goalposts, Sens would have 5 already.

  64. Bill says:

Ryan White is the goat here but then again … wtf was that double minor for??

  65. Danno says:

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  66. Harditya says:

I don’t blame Budaj. That was deflected, stupid penalty by Ryan.

  67. HardHabits says:

C’mon veteran youth. Use your North American grit to beat that ref syndicate!!!!

  68. Garbo says:

How many goals have been scored this year with White in the box?

  69. L Elle says:

Can’t we move the Sens out of the conference?

  70. commandant says:

Thanks Refs for ruining the game.

Note: I don’t think they are playing favorites… just ruining the game with a call every 30 seconds.

  71. Blondie says:

Gettin’ ugly. C’mon boys, comeback time.

  72. Rooster says:

    ..MT HAS to bench white..

  73. punkster says:

    Another deflection.
