Liveblog: The winning streak is over

It was fun while it lasted.
The Senators blew the game open in the second period while Ryan White was serving a double-minor for roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct.
PP goals by Habs-killer Daniel F. Alfredsson and Mika Zibanejad made it 3-1.
Then Chris Phillips capped off a period of total dominance by the Chris Neil line to give the Senators a three-goal lead.
Three goals on Peter Budaj in 3:35, and the Canadiens never recovered … although there some quality shots on Craig Anderson.
Chris Neil iced the cake with a wraparound late in the third period.

The game included two first-period fights and a parade to the penalty box that sabotaged any rhythm or flow to the action.

  1. Propwash says:

    Budaj didn’t see that one

  2. Bill says:

Okay, this is just not our game. I can’t even begin to discuss the refereeing … I feel bad for those clowns being that bad at their jobs.

Lets see the Habs exact some revenge though.

  3. Danno says:

    These refs suck

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  4. twilighthours says:

Did anyone see what White did for the first 2?

  5. habs-fan-84 says:

doesn’t look like the same team tonight unfortunately. I think we need PK lol

  6. Habitant in Surrey says:

…these DUMB unnecessary penalties are spoiling all that is good.

    …gotta fix this soon 🙁

  7. RockinRey says:

Oy yoi yoi. They aren’t coming back from this !

  8. Andy and the habs says:

    Therrien to the gutter?

  9. moser17 says:

Pull Budaj. Bench White. Cut Alfredsson’s hair.

  10. Propwash says:

    Garbage game

  11. SKHab says:

Double minor for White. The reffing in this game is terrible.

  12. Captain aHab says:

What are the refs smoking this year? What did White do?

Me skull and crossbones arn’t the only thing I plan on raisin’ tonight.

  13. Danno says:

Quick whistle again. Now we’re even

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  14. Danno says:

The Golden Hand of Moen will be the game changer

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  15. Bill says:

Eller has lost Therrien’s patience. Fair enough. Moen on the top line though? Get real MT.

  16. FinnHabs says:

Two tired teams on the ice

  17. habs-fan-84 says:

a year ago DD puts that in. The goals will come.

  18. commandant says:

Desharnais and Cole with a good shift there after the Moen/Eller switch.

    Go Habs Go!

  19. Rudy says:

    Yemmy! Love it!

  20. Andy and the habs says:

I guess therrientsn is trying to match the toughness! Moen moved to top line.

  21. Rick Carlysle
    Metta World Peace
    Dwight Freeney

  22. Bill says:

  23. Danno says:

    Refs are power tripping

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  24. PeriodPain says:

They Just don’t look as sharp tonight- a little slow, a little late… Inaccurate passes… Tired?

Your grasp of the obvious is inspiring

  25. lavie says:

Watching Subban’s interview early today I can see PK is so smart to understand what Gergevin and Therrien expected him to be. A humble Subban is what the team needs and energetic Subban is the key piece of the puzzle as well.

  26. db says:

What’s up with the ‘Raffi’ Diaz on TSN. His name is Raphael.. like the ninja turtle.

  27. Rudy says:

It’s nice to see us keeping the puck in the other team’s end this year

  28. Adidess says:

Haha, this is a bit much.

At the trade deadline, sometimes you see players switch dressing rooms and line-up the same night against their previous team. This means Therrien is full of confidence right now in what he’s doing. It is his prerogative, I guess.

  29. moser17 says:

Just tuning in. Galchenyuk looking good tonight?

  30. ponyboy says:

Is it just me or is Eller constantly on the wrong side of the ice when playing wing?

  31. Don Carnage says:

Let’s hope PK had a good fill of humble pie and is ready to settle into the room , with everything that we have heard now and seen it is clear the kid needs to settle down and become a real team player. I for one hope he does.

    • twilighthours says:

See, this need to settle down isn’t clear to me at all.

      • punkster says:

PK isn’t PK if he “settles down”…I want PK, not pk.

        ***SUBBANG BABY!!!***

      • Adidess says:

I am with you. No idea what this means.

      • Don Carnage says:

We have heard plenty, loud music in room, telling team mates how he was coming back with a big contract etc etc there is enough info that has come out, its not rumors when they are telling you during a game broadcast that PK had said in the room that he was gonna start the season with a contract like Doughty’s , Do you really think that the Canadians would allow these things to be said by the people bringing the game LIVE to be making these statements? Again tonight we heard about how some of his team mates are grumbling about his return to the team, and how Michel Therrien has spoken to them and PK and said he is sure that PK will find a way to carve out a place in the room, it seems very clear that PK has been spoken to and he has said himself he understands the message and will work hard to find a place in the room without disturbing the atmosphere

        • punkster says:

          ***SUBBANG BABY!!!***

          • Don Carnage says:

sigh all you like , he was sitting at home telling everyone how important he was and how much he brings to the team … what did he get? 2 years he lost face and if he would not have taken the 2 years he would have sat at home .

        • Adidess says:

Oh major stuff, right? To me, this is a case of veterans and coaching staff getting carried away over a start to the season that is stronger than anticipated. They have the luxury of being picky, for now…

That said, we still look like a team that could use another stud D-man out there.

    • HardHabits says:

Subban was an integral part of the 2009 WJC gold medal team. He

…made the tournament All-Star Team and won the Most Points by Defenseman Award; Coaches voted him as a Top 3 Player on the Team

Subban has it in him. I am confident it will happen with the Habs current coaching and development philosophy.

  32. AngryHabsFan says:

    Any update on Markov yet?

  33. AngryHabsFan says:

Need the sens to stay undisciplined, and if they do we’ve got this game. Getting Budaj a win will do some great stuff for his confidence moving forward when he gets the nod again.

  34. jedimyrmidon says:

PK won’t play until next week? Aw man, what is Therrien waiting for? For the Habs to even up their W/L record?

  35. RockinRey says:

Time to get rid of the shootout!!! After watching that garbage from Burrows

  36. ponyboy says:

Ottawa playing the kid line a bit tighter, mind you it’s a road game with tonnes of penalties, choppy, not much flow

  37. duffy says:

Chris Neal, the Sean Avery of the Ottawa Senators.

  38. Danno says:

    Is PK in Therien’s doghouse?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

    • Ron says:

Ya kind of wonder what type of shape PK showed up in. MT would also want to get him melted in with the system before any action. Lets see what happens after Saturdays game. Might be abit earlier.

  39. smiley says:

PK should play on Saturday. It’s a 48 game season!

  40. Guitarsg1000 says:

    Is morkov Ok???

  41. Rooster says:

Does Diaz have any first assists lol? Marky sure does make him look good ..

  42. ponyboy says:

One place PK will definitely help is the PK!!! #stability

  43. Hobie Hansen says:

Good job by the refs tonight!

  44. punkster says:

So does TSN go Full Idiot during the intermission and talk PK crap again?

    ***SUBBANG BABY!!!***

  45. Danno says:

I’m just happy Markov is OK

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  46. Castor says:

The games can’t all be gold.

  47. Adidess says:

Maybe it’s the refs, but both teams look like they played last night.

  48. smiley says:

The zebras and the linesmen Mr. Boone. For ONCE Don Cherry is right!

  49. habs-fan-84 says:

refs looking to be the stars tonight

  50. Propwash says:

This happens ALL the time in front of the net and they frikkin call it?

    • Danno says:

Well yeah. We had the puck and were threatening to score. Must stop that immediately…

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  51. Bill says:

Dear Stupid Zebras: no one paid to see you work. Thanks.

  52. smiley says:

Are the refs getting commission for penalties called?

  53. commandant says:

I hate it when the refs decide they are gonna be the stars of the show.

    Go Habs Go!

  54. Adidess says:

    Pleks, what a smart player!

    • neumann103 says:

I was just watching that PP and thinking “Tomas Plekanec is just the best”

Of course I often wander around just muttering “Tomas Plekanec is just the best”

      “Et le but!”

  55. CharlieHodgeFan says:

For the people choosing Cole over DD as their scapegoat – last year was only last year. You were ready to throw him off the island last season too, and see how that turned out?
He has a reputation as a slow starter, and we have recently seen that. Then we saw what happens when he gets rolling.

  56. Bill says:

We still can’t win a face off to save our lives

    • athanor says:

that may have been right in previous games, but as of the commercial break, habs had won more faceoffs than sens.
edit Make that the end of the period. Habs 54%, Sens 46%

  57. Danno says:

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  58. db says:

Please win this draw…. or let Markov take it :p

  59. Bill says:

@vinny … I too am looking for Paul Maclean’s doppelgänger

  60. Guitarsg1000 says:

    I agree with Markov !!

  61. Danno says:

Quick whistle robs us of a chance

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  62. Vinny Red says:

Am I the only one still looking for the Paul MacLean double behind the bench??

  63. Adidess says:

PP solid so far. Don’t quite like how we seem to suffer on the PK. Feels like our guys are running around too much.

  64. goal4429 says:

Markov looks a little tired tonight

  65. Blondie says:

TSN colour guy can’t understand why that wasn’t a penalty shot. What sport does he usually work?

  66. Harditya says:

Pleky pulled an Ovi move haha

  67. JIMVINNY says:

I don’t know how MJ thinks that’s a penalty shot. he was never close to being clear.

  68. rogus says:

Of all the Canadian teams, I hate the Janitors most!

  69. Adidess says:

    Nice saves there.

On the first goal, poor Budaj couldn’t see. After the initial stop, he was in reactive mode, scrambling. Not sure he is to blame for that goal.

  70. piper says:

Did Cole start last year as bad as he is this year. He’s been awful.

  71. habs-fan-84 says:

Budaj. will be fine. What is wrong with this fan base! ? Must be the same alarmists who came out after the Leaf game.

  72. HardHabits says:

    Budaj just pulled a Gorges.

  73. Harditya says:

BUDAJ. THANK YOU. Gotta give credit where it’s due, solid saves there. Need to see more of that.

  74. Propwash says:

    OK… Budaj redeemed himself there.
