Give the Canadiens credit.
Exhausted from a long road trip and cross-continent travel, playing for pride, your Montreal Canadiens got a goal from David Desharnais with 3.5 second left to send a game Buffalo needed into overtime.
Tyler Myers won it for the Sabres when a whole lot of white jerseys were caught up ice.
Peter Budaj was beaten on the 36th shot he faced.

Leafs need to start winning a few games lol!
Campoli and Kaberle have played well lately, they take alot of flack for no reason on this site. I have also not had a complaint against Staubitz, skates well and checks
If Markov can just get through the remaining games of the season with body intact, it will give us humble fans reason to hope for better things next season. His timing will, no doubt, return, and, also no doubt, this would have been a better team this year had he been in the lineup. At this point in his career he owes no apologies or explanations.
The playoff set up is skewered. As it stands #3 Florida is really 7th in the East and #3 Dallas is 6th. The 4th and 5th place teams are shafted because of the bogus guaranteed 1-2-3 placing for the division leaders.
I hope the NHL doesn’t go back to all division series for the first two rounds either. Especially given that two divisions will have 7 teams and two will have 8. Better to still have two conferences and take the 8 best teams on each side and not seed division leaders as 1-2 but keep the inter divisional play for the regular season.
Expansion, second Phoenix franchise to build an Arizona rivalry for the ages. Also, a return to Atlanta. NHL in the south rises again, resulting in four divisions each with eight teams.
My fave will be the “Super South Division” with LA, Anh, SJ, Phx1, Phx2, Atl, Fla, TB.
There should be a Mexican team too.
With Speedy Gonzalez.

@gumper: …my first guess is that he tosses and turns thinking about his family first and personal biz. Canadiens second. Then again, I don’t know him.
Hence the speculation.
The players association, say it will not require Radulov to pass through waivers if he returns to Nashville, and the NHL is on board with this. I find it weird that they can by pass rules they implemented, giving an advantage to Nashville.
It doesn’t look like there will be another debate breaking out tonight over Price and that other goalie we traded the other day. So I’m going to bed… hehe
——————————————–
I want a top pick. It would really suck to suck this bad and have suckers like the Leafs outsuck us down the stretch and suck away our draft pick.
Do ya suppose Bob Gainey glances at the standings before retiring of an evening, then tosses and turns all night thinking about how that stogy-sucking pudknocker Glen Sather hosed him down at the bargaining table?
pudknocker?
Wanker.
So he’s the guy Eddie Shore traded?
Sorry brother, too obscure for me. Always a shame when the joke goes over their heads eh?
Slapshot reference. Would love to post the youtube clip, but it’s R rated.
If you want to see it, youtube slapshot + the North American word for wanker.
I miss Saku. We should NEVER have let him go. We lost our soul when we turned our backs on him. Shame..
Anyone saw that clip on RDS where Markov stands up and takes full blame for the Ennis goal. He said his hw went for a switch that caused the goal. I love it, but also kinda feel bad he had to explain to everyone he’s still getting his timing back after two years of not playing.

I want a good pick. It would really suck to suck this bad and have suckers like the Leafs outsuck us down the stretch and suck away our draft pick.
No worries for Markov, half the people on this site were blaming Kaberle anyway!
Full Breezer 4 Life
The players know. But it’s part of the kind of quality leader Markov is to just stand up and say it. It’s a reassurance in a way: he won’t be “getting his timing back” for long. It’s a problem that will go away.
————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Since coming to Montreal, Kaberle has scored at a pace that would give him 46 pts over a full season – a number that would have been good for 14th in the league among defencemen last year.
If Kaberle was an UFA we’d all be screaming for Gauthier to sign him for two more years.
“If Kaberle was an UFA we’d all be screaming for Gauthier to sign him for two more years.”
Yes. And then after he did, we’d start bashing them both.
Full Breezer 4 Life
And then when he will be traded for a 3rd round pick, we’ll bash the trade.
That’s life on Hockey Inside/out.

Thats my theory behind why i feel the spacek/kabby trade could be a great investment as early as the end of next year but possibly longer.Of course this means he would have to put up similar or slightly better numbers which going by his career is not out of the question. Somebody will pay a steep price for a 45 to 50 point dman with one year or less left on his contract. They always do. For all the hate he got last year he still had 47 points and led the bruins dmen in playoff points.
Bingo. Look at what the Wild got for Zidlicky, and Kaberle is the better player.
can’t believe all the whining after the lost — when we lost to Calgary I thought we’d be lucky to win one of the next three, yet we managed to get 5 of 6 points. I think the guys put up a great effort considering have to travel back east to play a hot Buffalo club after the travel of a western road trip.
Anyway glad Markov is back — some rust but what do you expect after being away for over 400 days. I do agree that Bourque is one frustrating player to watch — what will it take to motivate the guy, maybe a cattle prod!
They were really bashing Bourque on TSN after the game for no heart and desire to win. I wonder what he’d fetch on the trade market?

Your going to get your clock set again I see.
LOL,……probably.
This fail for Nail thing isnt good. It should be fail for Grigorenko. We don’t need a winger.
Grigorenko is 200 pounds. 6’3 center. He has 39 goals 45 assists and is plus 36 in 57 games.
Castor how did that JM change work out for you, lol
I think we need a winger just as bed as we need a center

Well the Buffalo win means another nail in the Leafs coffin.
I’m worried that Leafs fans have lost hope. It’s way more fun when they have hope.
Here’s what I’d like see: they start Reimer the next game and he gets a lucky shut-out, then they win the next one too. All of a sudden Reimer is the second-coming again and the fans smell playoffs. They ride the enthusiasm all the way to ninth, get a crap pick, and of course the fans are still psyched about next year based on a strong finish.
That sounds ideal to me.

I know a lot of hard core Leaf morons and yeah, they’ve already given up, in fact, they knew this was going to happen in October.

Change the name of Reimer for Markov (except for the shut out part) and you might be describing the Habs.
Really? You think the Habs win another game and we’re gonna start talking playoffs? And we’re gonna predict a Cup next year?
Have you met Habs fans? They’re WAY too negative for that!
Full Breezer 4 Life
tip toe through the tulips with you.
A couple of them are telling me they’ll cheer for Buffalo… ’nuff said!
But yeah, let’s pray Reimer lights them up again so they can die on the threshold… again:-)
This is not good. They are challenging us for a high draft pick.
And they are pros at this… They find new ways to suck. We’re up against it…
Sure seems like the Leafs have lost hope. Now they’re gunning for a lottery pick… the lottery pick that should be the Habs’.
Wouldn’t be so bad for the Leafs if they were having a bad season like the Habs all season, but year after year they find a way to flame out all on their own, falling from a playoff spot and out.
FIRE GAUTHIER, FIRE GAUTHIER, FIRE GAUTHIER
Another loss and another reminder of how bad our GM is. Bourque who is still owed $13MM-$14MM for the next 4 seasons (btw, Cammy owed $12MM for only 2 seasons), is the softest “grinder” I’ve ever seen. At least AK46, threw his body around and scored some goals (and he will continue to do so with the Preds because he will get the ice time).
We need a new GM and coach who can start fresh. Draft, and trade/get rid of these awful spare parts — Bourque, Weber, Kaberle, Campoli, etc…..
Yup and don’t forget the biggest awful spare part of all (hint: his last name starts with a G)
AK has been getting 12 minutes TOI with the Preds. Check out the boxscores at TSN or NHL.com.
He is getting some PP time though, which he never got in Montreal, a real head scratcher considering how bad the PP was this year.
After Radulov ends up with Nashville – AK46 PP time will be gone……
Why? With Radulov on that team, AK is still the best LW they have. I’d put him out there on the PP with him.
Sorry, but AK was good for the Habs, in a limited role: he’ll be better for the Preds in an expanded role. That guy is a good hockey player. Don’t get the hate.
Full Breezer 4 Life
I have nothing against the preds, skillsy or the brothers K,but them being swept in the first round of this years playoffs makes our 2nd round pick a mid rounder.Nothing personal, just business.
Averaged almost 2 minutes of PP time a game in Montreal.
Hmm, I checked them as you suggested and he’s getting about 15:00 minutes TOI actually.
PP time too.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Not too disappointed with the loss. I’m happy they showed heart and scored with 5sec left at the end of a long road trip out West.
Markov is playing his second game in a while. I don’t mind the rustiness. He needs to get used to skating again. He seems to avoid backwards skating a lot.
Bourque is a frustrating player to watch. He doesn’t contribute anything even though I’m sure he could with some effort. AK was an enigma, but Bourque is not even that. He’s just floating around, dumping pucks here and there, peeling off for a change at the earliest opportunity, always gets rubbed out along the boards, etc.
Did Bourque play?
Meh… We knew that’s the guy we’d be getting. Players like that will always exist and we need to find a way to get them to work.
I’d be curious to know what his pre-game prep is like. He’s probably not focused enough. Next year, I’d have him share a room (if they still do that) with Gionta. I’d ask Gio, the consumate professional, to guide this guy into becoming a real pro. He’s a floater…
Yeah, unfortunately this guy seems to need a lot to get him going. I’d rather have AK as the enigma. Who did Bourque play with in Calgary?
I couldn’t imagine a guy like Bourque being more enigmatic than Kostitsyn and more invisible than Cammy, when Cammaleri is not scoring. I could see him become the most frustrating player on the team next year, after Gomez retires, is bought out, sent to Hamilton, or returns to his glorious form of 6/7 years ago
——————————————–
I want a good pick. It would really suck to suck this bad and have suckers like the Leafs outsuck us down the stretch and suck away our draft pick.
Enigma to me means a player that inconsistently shows flashes of brilliance like AK. Bourque hasn’t shown such flashes. The coaches need to examine how Bourque consistently produced in Calgary and try to fit that into the current system.
When we traded for Bourque a friend of mine in Calgary said we were taken. Bourque will score when the game is out of reach but for a big guy was areal pu#$y. Said Flames laughing all the way to the rink. Hate to say he was right. Cammy should still be here but the goat cannot have anyone talk to the media without his okay. Takes away any pluses he had for getting Cole who was a really good pick up. We may have gotten a little bigger with Bourque but Cammy was the better player.

Markov should be/could be wearing a knee brace – It takes awhile to get used to wearing one……..
I’m quite sure he is. Broke my knee cap in a racquetball tournamnet and have had to wear the brace ever since. And that was no where as bad as Markov’s injuries were.
Mr. Biter

Sabres are boring.
Richard R
Hell yes.
Good game. Got a point we didn’t want, but, nice to give the Sabers a little scare nevertheless. Puts them 2 more points up on the Laffs., and, keeps the Habs in last place. Win, win. PG/BG one step closer to end of the line. unfortunate that BG may have tainted a great legacy but, his finger prints are all over the demise of the Habs. Time to walk away and enjoy just being a once elite Hab, nothing wrong with that….
PG get on the phone and call Roy. Let him have a few games with some of these losers and tell you where to stick them. We all know CC is gone after the season why wait. Just sign him get him here and let get ready for next year.
Yeah, let’s get a junior coach. What is it with all this Roy Love for next head coach. That would be as bad as Peanut and Bluet early in the 95 season.
Roy is exactly like Tremblay: hot-headed former player who would alienate professionals in about 10 games.
Hmm, who are the good Francophone candidates these days? Is it still just Hartley? Please don’t say Therrien.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Clement Jodoin may get his shot. We’ll see this summer.
Roy Rogers? He passed away 14 years ago but I will admit he’d likely do a better job than RC.

I hesitate to interrupt the massive spaz-out that is presently engulfing the site, but … the Habs scraped out a point against a pretty hot Buffalo team, on the road. They tied it up with seconds left. Just about everyone on the team had a decent game: nobody blew it.
Habs picked up 5 points out the last six, all on the road. No-one has looked bad, except maybe Bourque, though in fairness he has mainly looked invisible.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Funny how a strong finish can cover up 50 minutes of lackluster effort.
Keeping close to hot team at home is what a road game after a long trip is all about, but by all means shit on them.
Just terrible, right?
we have a good 1st line the other three needs a lot of changes. other than Pleks and Gionta no one would be untouchable this summer.
I’m still a little surprised that a few people here hold a belief that the Habs will purposely throw games to get a higher draft pick. And those who get angry when they play well, win or tie.
They’re professionals. They play for money, enjoyment, pride and their team mates. I sincerely doubt they play to lose.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Hard to tell the difference between doing it “on purpose” and just doing their best. Don’t confuse hoping they’ll lose with wanting them to lose. They’re two entirely different things. A high draft pick would mean a lot more to this team than squeaking into 10th place.
Of course it would but I was pointing out that there are a few here, and I don’t mean HH and the regular “tank corps”…just look at some recent comments…a few who actually believe the players should be throwing games to get a higher pick. They won’t do that and it’s unrealistic to believe they would.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Consider the possibility that the “tank corps” is largely a figment of your imagination.
Haha…could well be. Reading too many WW II histories and seeing tanks behind every hedgerow.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Fair result. The boys made it interesting.
We’re still the Least of the East and Buffalo gets to make a run at a 4 game sweep in the first round.
Finally we showed some heart…..but how are we going to get rid of Bourque and Kaberle they cannot be on our roster they should be playing another sport…
Overtime goal scored by the guy who should have been thrown out of the game for a dirty hit.
Things like this seem to be a regular occurence for us in the last few years.
IF this happened to the Bruins then Jack Edwards would be declaring a revolution amongst the tea baggers.
You know, now I am happy when they win, and not so pissed off when they lose. Is that how tanking works or I still have ways to go?

I want a good pick. It would really suck to suck this bad and have suckers like the Leafs outsuck us down the stretch and suck away our draft pick.
The only problem is we got 1 point, and 5 points out of our last 6 games.
We’re headed right back to 10th place, no good draft picks, forever mediocre.
What’s the problem? Habs are still 28th and the closest team is 1 point ahead with a game in hand.
