Liveblog: Canadiens shut out 3-0 in Buffalo

Hodgson

The Sabres needed the game to stay in the hunt for an eastern Conference playoff spot.
The Canadiens sank deeper into last place.
Eight games to go.
But it will seem like more.

Down 3-0, the Canadiens pulled Carey Price with 3:40 to go.

And Erik Cole promptly took a goaler interference penalty.

It’s been that kind of season.

Here’s something that might be nice. Sabres meet the Bruins in round one and Miller gets his revenge on those apes.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

    It’s in the tank. Clunk!

I hope the Sabres beat the Caps… and then lose in 4 as they should.

I have some good news and some bad news. Soon Gauthier will be gone. Jeff Molson is doing the hiring. Guess which is the good and which is the bad/ugly.

  20. MacHabFan says:

Our transition game repeatedly consists of the D-Man making a stretch pass to the left winger standing still at the opponent’s blue line … game in game … good luck with that.

    Horrible!

  21. Bill says:

I think it’s kind of a compliment when the other teams’ fans chant “USA” against the Habs. Seriously. They don’t seem to do it against Toronto.

  33. L Elle says:

I’ll give PG every benefit of every doubt, and say that 99% of all his moves were a success.

But the result of this season is enough for me to desire a new GM.
Love you Bob Gainey, but you must go as well.

    • Bill says:

Might as well say that Carey Price has played well this year, but the result of this season is enough reason to want a new goalie.

      Makes about as much sense!

      • HabinBurlington says:

Sorry Bill, I have to go with LL on this one.

      • L Elle says:

I hear ya. Price is a player. All he can do is play. No decisions are on him. I trust Price, not so much the decision makers.

Mind you, Molson smiles pretty at the camera, and says he’s not involved in any “hockey” decisions. Does anyone know if this is true?

ego, pro inexperience, temper, and none

These were the 4 options on Roy’s candidacy on TSN quiz tonight.

  36. timothy13 says:

Take it or leave it but the Montreal Canadiens lately have made some bad decisions. It is time to break with the past. Granted rookie coaches do not fare well in Montreal but management needs to take some risks. Big ones. Maybe just maybe Patrick Roy is the sort of risk this sinking team needs to bring back passion, grit, determination, integrity, and everything else that spells a winning combination! Someone please tell me if Bob Gainey is still in the organization because well I am no longer sure if that is good news or if the team shall be forever lame.

    • Bill says:

The problem is that you think the team lacks “passion” when it actually lacks Skill and Health.

Roy isn’t going to fix that.

This is a rubbish team. The standings tell the truth. We are the worse team in the Eastern Conference. It is amazing that we can talk about the future on this site, even Boone and co look forward to next year and after. Think about it – even our new messiah Cole is a Carolina reject, not Pittsburgh nor the Bruins, but lowly Carolina. Here is the key – we see mediocrity as the elite. We see an ordinary line – DD/Cole/Max-Pac as a top quality line; at best, they are a 3rd line with the big boys.
St Patrick can’t resurrect this franchise. Jesus Christ can’t. Gainey and now Gauthier have killed this organization. Look at the game tonight – they are an average AHL team. Even Price looked ordinary.
Finally, knock off the tank theory – it’s a rationalization for a dead franchise. Even if we get 1st pick, we need to get rid of ALL present players and replace them with hockey players.

  38. habsfanforever7631 says:

God when will this season be over?
Now when I watch the games I find myself thinking about next year.
I hope we make the playoffs next year cause we can’t afford to miss the playoffs 2 years in a row.
Getting a top pick is all cool but losing still sucks.
It seems so weird seeing so many few comments, at this point in the middle of the season there would be about 500 comments.
What is there to look forward to in the third period? Nothing I guess, but I don’t know why I’m still watching every game till the season is over, I guess it’s just the true fan in me.

    Go Habs Go

    • fastfreddy says:

I hope Mr. Molson is presently talking to GM candidates. Make the move as soon as the season is over. Get new management and coaching staff ready for the draft. And YES to Patrick Roy behind the bench, I don’t think he’s going to take crap from ANYONE.

      CH = Les Glorieux!!!

  39. HardHabits says:

    So basically,

1 top 6 forward with some size and grit
1 stay at home NHL calibre defence man with a booming shot
    1 4th line
1 back up goaltender capable of playing 25 regular season games

is what the Habs need to contend.

    Tank Parade.

    • ffenliv says:

I’d go further than ‘1 stay at home NHL calibre defence man with a booming shot’. I think they need an elite-level defenseman who can really shut the other team down.

I think we also need a real #1 center. The DD story this year has been great, but even if he manages another 60-ish point year, I really think he belongs on the second line. That’s IF he has another good year.

    • Bill says:

Team has picked up 9 out of 12 points since getting Markov back. That’s one player (albeit an important one).

With Gionta, they’d have two scoring lines … what impact would that have?

I’d like another scoring forward for depth, and a back-up goalie in case of injury, but the Habs are really just a healthy season away from being a good team.

  40. ffenliv says:

I’ve advocated a ‘hope for wins, but realize losses are coming’ approach. It satisfies both my desire for wins, and my desire for a good draft position.

Well, tonight I have to get on the tank wagon. I’ve got Ryan Miller in my pool (now in the playoffs) and my opposition has Price.

    Let’s go Sabres! :(

  41. HabinBurlington says:

Duncan Keith with an elbow to head of Daniel Sedin, Mr. Shanahan with some video work to do.

  42. athanor says:

Surely, Boone, that’s Buffalo 22-0-2 when leading.
    Remember the dreaded blown leads.
edit: On the bright side, they are 21-0-0 when leading after three.

  43. durocher says:

Who is NHL ready of the 2012 draft prospects?

  44. danhabsfan says:

Just got in…. what have I been missing????
    How are Les Boys playing?

  45. JF says:

If there’s one thing I hope for next season, it’s that whoever coaches the Habs abandons the dump-and-chase approach. We spend our whole time chasing the puck, dumping it in, then wheeling back to defend against another Sabre onslaught. We create absolutely nothing in the way of offence. The way the team is playing tonight is pathetic – no offence, no pressure, nothing. I absolutely can’t watch.

Eller has run out of steam…overall the forward lineup that is playing today is one of the weakest in the league…

  52. D-man says:

How do I change my avatar?

  53. HabinBurlington says:

What a lazy line change there to cause the offside, Canada Post would do well sponsoring this team tonight.

    Preseason hockey 6 months early.

  55. Adidess says:

Hi guys, have missed most of the game… How are the boys doing?

Kinda feel weird to be asking this while on the tankwagon, but the inexplicable thing is you still want them to do well (meaning well enough to lse with dignity, but not win). This tanking thing is really not as easy as it sounds…

  56. Bertuzzi says:

On the bright side, after watching this lifeless team all season, playoff hockey is going to be great. Go Vancouver!

In this season of many disappointments, none is larger to me then Weber. He clearly is not an NHL capable player. After last seasons playoffs he had me fooled. I’d suck as a scout.

They need to change that rule so that it’s not automatic with a bouncing puck.

  67. HabinBurlington says:

Watching the Habs tonight and the last two Leafs games, that final game of the season will be EPIC….

  68. Bill says:

I’m really looking forward to next year with DD, Max, Cole, Pleks, Eller, Gionta, Subban, Markov, Gorges, Emelin, and Price.
