Liveblog: Canadiens shut out 3-0 in Buffalo

Hodgson

The Sabres needed the game to stay in the hunt for an eastern Conference playoff spot.
The Canadiens sank deeper into last place.
Eight games to go.
But it will seem like more.

Down 3-0, the Canadiens pulled Carey Price with 3:40 to go.

And Erik Cole promptly took a goaler interference penalty.

It’s been that kind of season.

The number of pies served up this year by Carey Price could choke a fat man at a country fair.

2010 was a long time ago.

  2. rogieshan says:

The true keepers on this team are beginning to emerge in these closing days and we the fans should be thankful for that. Some nights it’s literally like watching the Latvian or Danish team in the Habs jersey.

Move Plekanec to the wing. His days as a 1/2A centre is over.

  3. davecessna says:

I’m thinking they’d need to lose every game until season’s end to even think about 1st overall pick. Those crazy Blue Jackets.

Should’ve kept AK for the remainder of the season. Did they really believe that Geoffrion could be a better player? The team was having troubles scoring and they still chose to get rid of one of their better scorers for nothing.

    • Kooch7800 says:

just so I am clear…they should have let AK walk for nothing? This team had no shot at the playoffs so they need to maximize their players and picks. They can still bid on AK after the season if they want but now they have a 2nd and a 5th pick for him. Geoffrion was from the Gill trade not the AK deal.

Ak will get close to 5 mill a season and for a third line guy that is a lot of cash

“Like Canadian Hip hop..check us out http://www.groovecontrolmusic.com

      • avatar_58 says:

So 20+ goals is a third liner eh? Maybe the real problem is AK46 never had a shot at top 6 time with Cunneyworth.

        • Kooch7800 says:

yes, AK is a third liner…He doesn’t score regularly enough to warrant top 6 minutes. He is not going to reach 20 this year either.

I don’t buy the he never got top 6 minutes thing either…his stats didn’t change whether he was playing with Eller or Pleks. He got top 6 minutes for two straight years and the points were basically the same as last year when he was put on the third line with Eller

    • The Juice says:

Why? So they could finish 11th instead of 15th?

Disgusted and sickened by this team. There is so much wrong from top on down that it’s pointless to begin. What hurts the most is that these losers have ruined the meaning of the words “Montreal Canadien”. Embarrassing, pathetically really.

Schwartz gets q sweet deal in stl – gets to come in on a great team, no pressure to produce or even play any sort of role, and just play his game and have fun. Kind of the anti-Leblanc.

  16. 24 Cups says:

Carolina won tonight which pulls them out of reach of the Habs in terms of the bottom eight teams. If Anaheim could somehow beat St Louis it would then mean there are only seven teams left in the race for the top end draft picks.

The amazing race is slowly and painfully winding down.

  17. 69HABS says:

Please Molson make the call to Roy.

  18. Castor says:

Am I the only one who doesn’t get angry anymore? This is NOT the team (or the management) that we will have next year. Next year will be better and the year after even better than that.

We want losses… hard to accept as it goes against everything we feel… but we WANT losses.

Personally, I think they should go for Grigorenko. (6’3 scoring center? Yes please!)

    • Cal says:

You want losses. I want an effective team that doesn’t mail them in like tonight. Pathetic.

    • nickster13 says:

I want Yakupov. The guy is totally driven and has talent to boot.

“I don’t wanna see Maurice tonight, I want the rocket!”

    • matt jordan says:

      It’s tough to say.
Unfortunately Gainey/Gauthier’s legacy of poor moves will continue to bite the team next year as Kaberle, Bourque, Gomez etc. are all still under contract for next season… and the season after that.

    • twilighthours says:

I don’t want losses but I have come to accept them as reality and probably good for the team long term. I no longer get upset about losses. I stopped being upset back in December when became apparent that the team wouldn’t make it.

  19. ProHabs says:

It is so f’in stupid that coach C is not playing Leblanc, Palusha and Geoffrion more. Now is the time to see if these guys are useful NHLer and to see if they can even play in the NHL.

Next October when we need to come out of the gate flying and win games early in the year is not the time to see if these guys can contribute. Brutal coaching and brutal planning for the future by this organization.

    • 69HABS says:

Just as well kept JM till the season was over.

Next season play the starting team for all preseason games.

    • 24 Cups says:

PH – Leblanc and Geoffrion should be in Hamilton getting a ton of ice time. In fact, they should have been in the AHL all year. Palushaj is strictly cannon fodder. A player who is on the clock and will be gone from Hab land by next summer.

A tough string of injuries has put all three of them in situations that they are not perpared for or not able to handle.

MaxPac bounced back from the same misplacement so I trust that Leblanc will be able to eventually do the same thing.

  20. habs001 says:

It is the pk that has kept the habs out of being the worst team in the nhl and first pick as we are still 2nd worst in wins and home points…

Randy just said he liked our intensity and so did I. Like he said, it’s the simple hockey that is going to get things done. And we are nothing if not simple.

  23. dre1744 says:

So what are your thoughts on Andrei Markov?????

Too me he has looked pretty ordinary, nothing in his play stands out for me.
He looks like he has lost a step aswell.

But thats what is to be expected after a couple of knee surgeries!!!!! I’m hoping that hes just not pushing himself as hard as he should this season. And he will work his ass off this summer and come back satronger then ever for next season!!!!!!

    • Mondou6 says:

I think he looks really good. Calm and controlled with the puck, and every pass is makes is perfect. The team looks better already with him playing. I hope he can regain his legs, but even if he doesn’t, we have 99 problems and Markov isn’t one. (As long as he’s playing)

I love PK, but he had some bad passes tonight, off target, way too hard, bad timing, etc.

    • habs001 says:

2 years ago he was making bad pinching decisions..he has to improve on that ..otherwise he is fine…

Keith with an ugly head hit on sedin tonight. Keith is too good a player to be pulling that crap

  29. Albatros says:

Habs should perform as a unit at Chez Paree in the off-season. This freakin’ roster is naked of NHL-caliber talent!

  30. HabinBurlington says:

  31. Mondou6 says:

          • twilighthours says:

I think we are fighting over being in last place, being frustrated, being jobbed by the officials, not scoring and losing again to the sabers, and getting done in by a sneaky little dirty play.

I imagine you might react that way too, given the circumstances.

          • Bill says:

  56. alwayssunny says:

Well it’s not looking good but you can’t win every single game. At least we game them our best. plus we are without the player we built our team around, Scott Gomez. Not to mention Kaberle. I thought Price played a great game as usual. None of the goals were his fault and he really used his goalposts. I thought the refs were out to get us again too, but maybe its just my bleu, blanc, et rouge coloured glasses.

  62. Adidess says:

We can’t just tinker with this team. The must-keeps for next year are few: Price, PK, Markov, Gorges, Pacioretty, Cole, DD and maybe Eller. Nobody else is worth keeping if there is a reasonable offer for them.
