Liveblog: Canadiens make it five in a row

PleksRangers

Quick!
Get out of New York before the cops get to Madison Square Garden.
Outplayed for 40 minutes in their second game in two nights, your Montreal Canadiens got a go-ahead goal from rookie Alex Galchenyuk and an empty-netter by Raphael Diaz to upset the Rangers.
And guess who sits atop the Eastern Conference standings?

It was Galchenyuk’s second of the season and first on the road.

Diaz’s goal was his first.

Carey Price made 24 stops

I can’t say for sure we’ll hold it but nice to see Montreal on top of the standings…sure looks good on them..We’ll forget for now that Boston has 3 games in hand… ;-)

So who’s in the doghouse now? That friggin’ Youppi!! Fire him!!!

  6. otter649 says:

Habs still undefeated I believe in games outside their division……

  7. Ian_Habs4life says:

I cant believe we are in first place. Its still early but if things keep going this way were going to be playing hockey in may. What a turn around from last year!!!!

  8. HardHabits says:

They are responsible defensively but they are also an aggressively checking team. Not so much hitting just pressuring. The fore check and back check. They have two forwards at times in the offensive zone even when the opposition has the puck. I so love the 2-1-2 so much better than the 1-1-3 or the 0-1-4. They even do a little of the 1-3-1, but fluidly. The bottom line is the Habs press the play and create turnovers. Yes it’s stifling and defence oriented but it is also active. They don’t sit back. They make things happen.

  9. Stormin says:

Kaberle told his agent he wants to stay in MTL, healthy scratch 9 games in a row and still does not want to be traded, lol for anybody who still thinks Kaberle is an effective player, Zero compete level,

    • Routs says:

To be fair, he may see a good fit for him and see a chance for the team to do something special. He’s nearing the end of his career and likely knows he’ll get his chance due to injuries. By him not demanding a trade he’s showing class, not necessarily that he has no compete.

    • jedimyrmidon says:

Fine with me. The less agents trying to meddle with the Habs, the better.

Annniversary game Feb.19, 2008 when Habs came back from 5 goals down against Rangers…..

I must’ve woken up in some sort of a parallel universe because this isn’t really happening. Everybody relax please. It’s OK. Somebody must’ve put some LSD into the Internet or something. We’ll all come down very soon. Just enjoy hearing the colours for the next little while.

  17. Habifax says:

Good win. Really only played one good period but that is what good teams do. Find a way to win. I thought Eller played well again tonight along with Prust and the D was solid

  18. Habilis says:

Good teams win games even when they shouldn’t…

We may have something here. What a pleasure they’ve been to watch so far.

  19. Chrisadiens says:

Budaj would’ve got the shutout. ;)

Any fence sitters ready to slide off the fence yet? These boys have HEART. Yep, you can officially get excited.

  29. slapshot777 says:

Everyone was saying tht the Habs was only playing weak teams and that this week would be the true test for the Habs. Well looks to me like they are passing with flying colours. I love the way the Habs are playing defense and it is showing on the score board.

  30. icemachine says:

#1 in the East, who woulda thunk it!

  31. AH says:

Boone, you’re right, the jury is still out on this team, but WOW! 5 straight, very impressive thus far. MT deserves props, the boys have obviously bought whatever he was selling, and they look happy and energized too! First in the East, are you kidding me?

    GO HABS GO!!!!!

  32. frozengolf says:

I don’t care what the nay-sayers spout about, this team is for real. If they can stay healthy, they could make a run this spring.

Oh, by the way, anyone notice Gomez is a healthy scratch in the San Jose game :)

But what’s with Pouliot? 3 assists and counting tonight for Tampa!?!?!?

  33. Hoegaarden says:

By far, Diaz is the most improved Hab this year; prevents the tying goal then puts the icing on the cake.

  34. Strummer says:

$27 million a season doesn’t buy the kind of scoring line it used to.

Diaz and Gorges on the ice for the 6 on 4. Don’t we need a big lug who can clear the crease?

    • Mattyleg says:

      Yes.
Our management is incompetent for not signing:
      A) A massive slow defenseman who can only stand in front of the goalie and be a better wall than a window
      b) A massive slow fighter who can fight with the other team’s massive slow fighter

      —Hope Springs Eternal—

  37. frontenac1 says:

Great work by Whitey on that last play!Won the draw and got it out of the zone long enough for Rags to exit .and then Diaz with the Long Shot!
