Liveblog: Canadiens make it five in a row

PleksRangers

Quick!
Get out of New York before the cops get to Madison Square Garden.
Outplayed for 40 minutes in their second game in two nights, your Montreal Canadiens got a go-ahead goal from rookie Alex Galchenyuk and an empty-netter by Raphael Diaz to upset the Rangers.
And guess who sits atop the Eastern Conference standings?

It was Galchenyuk’s second of the season and first on the road.

Diaz’s goal was his first.

Carey Price made 24 stops

Based on the condensed sched it is good that most of the Habs game this year have had minimal up and down action…Very few firewagon type games..it seems both teams are sluggish in Habs games this year…

  6. piper says:

Cole’s looked out of shape since the start. I would have thought by now he’d be getting there. Maybe still has a nagging injury.

  7. Mattyleg says:

Watching highlights; does anybody else on here wince when they hear/see the name Clitsome?

  8. Steven says:

Think we could get decent return on Cole? There must be a GM who would trade for him. He’s coming off a 35 goal season and he looks disinterested, so a change of scenery might be what he needs.

I really want him to get back to last year’s form because he was a hero last year, but he looks more and more uncaring of being a Hab with each game.

    • Mattyleg says:

      I have a better idea:
Let’s keep him because he’s good.

      • Steven says:

I know the 15 games or so this year vs the 82 last year shouldn’t amount for much but it’s hard to watch a guy who generally doesn’t seem to care anymore. Reminding me of Cammalleri before he left, except with more worth coming off the previous season.

Not sure anyone would refuse if we got a younger, 20 or so goal guy in return, though. I guarantee it wouldn’t happen, but you never know.

      • Mavid says:

        sounds good to me

    • The Jackal says:

82 games vs. 16 games – that’s quite the fair comparison.
Cole is having an off year, but so are a coupe of other guys. There is no need to throw them under the bus, especially guys who scored 35 goals just a season ago.

      • Steven says:

Yeah, in retrospect the comparison isn’t entirely fair(as I mentioned above just now). His apparent regular lack of effort is concerning, though.

        • The Jackal says:

I don’t think it is lack of effort but just an off season. He is probably not in the best shape due to being involved in the lockout, etc.
Look for him to pick it up. If he continues to play poorly next season then that’s a different story, but it’s ridiculous how fickle we can be when it comes to our players.

      • Chrisadiens says:

In fairness, Jackel may be right. We should give Cole more than just 16 games. His off season comments have me leery, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

        • The Jackal says:

I think he will come around. We shouldn’t be getting down on these guys. Cole is probably still adjusting. I think he will turn it around and finish strong and bring that into next season.
Now, if he still plays like he is now next season, then it might the case that something is up with his interest/competitive drive.
Also, I hope I didn’t sound like I was belittling your point, I just think we can’t be putting these guys down because of a bad start – it happens to all players.
          Also – GOAL!

  9. thorandresson says:

It’s almost as if Cole and Bourque switched bodies

  10. Steve C. says:

As per Boone’s comments, I actually only came on here to talk about Cole. I don’t understand how a player could hustle as much as he did leading to the Pacioretty goal, yet be so lazy, standing…STANDING…for what seemed like forever watching Stralman score.

    Is he hurt?
    Does he care anymore?
Was last season a happy accident for his personal stats?
    Maybe a personal problem?
    I don’t understand.

  11. kirbhabs says:

that is a great question Boone, any way Dave can figure it out?

  12. w.p.d says:

    Cole’s a part time moderator.

  13. Habifax says:

I’d be happy with a point out of this game the way it is going now.

  14. w.p.d says:

Just saw the replay again, anyone want to support what Cole did on that play ?

    • jctremblay says:

I would…he’s clearly going for the lethargy play of the game!

    • showey47 says:

Personally i would like to know why moen left his defensive position on the left side to cross to the right side of the ice, this is why cole had to switch to the left side. I would also like to know where the left defenceman was and also the center, who is actually supposed to be the support player in the defensive slot. Not your right winger. Cole was weak on the play but there were at least 2 other players who should have been there. Plenty of blame to go around on that play.

  63. showey47 says:

Cole is sucking but why is he being called out for that goal? Blame whoever was playing left D,center or left wing. Anyone one of those 3 are more responsible for stralman scoring then cole is.

    • topher5468 says:

I guess the camera showed Cole right there after Strahlman scored and it looked like he was looking to the official instead of covering a man, but point well taken, Cole is a whipping boy,

  67. w.p.d says:

Based on his comments at the start, and his play to date, suspect Cole is playing for the final buyout.

I lost respect for cole as soon as he made the comment about retirement after this season just because he would make less money
