Liveblog: Canadiens lose fourth in a row, six of their last seven

Subban

For the 22nd time this season, the Canadiens lost a game in which they’d forged a lead – in this case, 2-0 in the first period.
Florida scored four unanswered goals to get two points they need in the crazy Southeast Division race.
And the Canadiens stay in last place – in the Northeast and the Eastern Conference.

The Canadiens had the game’s first eight SoG.

From there it was 32-12.

Might as well put an ‘A’ on PK’s jersey, the whole league thinks he’s an a-hole…

    I think he rocks.

Next game, the Habs should pull their goalie from the start, name Price the number 1 C and play Gomez 40 minutes on defense just to see what Bettman would say.

I always laughed when Buck Rodgers would put in Tim Wallach as a pitcher during games when the Expos were getting slaughtered. Wallach wasn’t too bad actually. Those kinds of things were fun to watch — even when the Expos were getting hammered.

  8. temekuhabs says:

Cheer up everybody! Only 19 more of games like this to watch!

I have nothing against Budaj but we need a better back up

  10. Rad says:

Why are Gainey and Gauthier even there, watching? They obviously don’t SEE what is going on. They live in some other world. They can’t even SEE Cole getting sticked, or Palushaj hammered, or Budaj getting taunted. NO FIGHT IN GAINEY AND GAUTHIER!!

  17. immortalhab says:

PG, JM, BG and Molson should have spent some time watching this team instead of watching reruns of ‘who’s the boss’ in Pierre’s office all year.

  18. alwayssunny says:

So reassuring to see Bob and Pierre up there. It’s all hands on deck now boys.

    • alwayssunny says:

Thought I saw Jacques martin peeking his head up too. Hope so. The more hockey minds we can put together for our big day tomorrow the better. These gentlemen have forgotten more about hockey than many of us know.

    • MontrealAtheist says:

Hope this duo enjoys watching the fruits of their labor … Any self-respecting GM would voluntarily step down at this point instead of continuing to run down a team that certainly deserves better.

PG never had any credentials to begin with and his only accomplishment in life was being BG’s sidekick. (Not that BG managed to do much as a coach in Montreal anyway.)

      • alwayssunny says:

Bob had the self respect to step behind the curtain, I can’t disagree with you – it might be time for Pierre to join him if we can’t save this season. But if that happens, the first thing they have to do is decide who the next GM will be and make sure he shares the same vision “identifies certain types of players, a certain type of team” as Bob and Pierre put it. If you are going to have a bunch of cooks cooking one meal, you have to make sure they are all using the right recipe. Get the best francophone who knows the system. I think we have the perfect guy on the payroll already. I think Jacques would do a really great job.

Anyway it was awesome to see Gainey face the crowd again, made me feel like “hey, this is serious business, we are sparing no resources”. I know it will be hard but try to get a good sleep boys and girls, huge day tomorrow.

No amount of alcohol can ease the pain of watching or following the Habs lose another period or two and then the game. Price needed a rest and it was smart to play the back up but there appears to be no support. Out shot…..Sunday night’s dinner does not sit well when this team does not have any depth it certainly shows. Big time. It is almost like a bad heart-ache country song, mmmmm, the Montreal Canadiens need changes. Big time. Sad. Bad.

  27. Rad says:

See how the Panthers protect THEIR goalie? When was the last time you saw anybody do that for Montreal?

  32. Rad says:

FOR THE RECORD: no more goals after Gudbranson’s pasting of Ryan White at the end of the 1st. Not even any real good scoring chances really. 3 shots on goal in the 2nd. Overwhelming dominance in the 3rd, punctuated by a stick in the ribs of Assistant Captain and Hab Leader Erik Cole, doubling him over in pain….followed by a 2nd Panther giving him a shove as Erik skated to the Canadien bench, doubled over in pain.

“Of course teams like DAL and COL are thinking about playoffs, but they’re also thinking about how to build a team that can truly contend.” Bob McKenzie…. Paraphrase accordingly.

At least the hab fans at the game probably only spent 6 bucks.

  36. immortalhab says:

I’m 39, almost twenty lbs over weight and 5’5″. I can do one and a half laps with the occasional arm yank before I have to finish the game from a chair. I see no reason why I wouldn’t be considered as a prospect for this team.

  37. NLhabsfan says:

That toe tag photo says it all!

  38. FlyingFrenchie says:

    Our forwards are quite offensive!

  39. Bogie Man says:

I think Molson is in a very difficult spot. He is starting realise all the past transactions of PG and BG have finally caught up to him and the team. The team is in a dark hole and has very little assets to offer up as trade bait. Any of the assets worth anything are too good to just serve up on a platter but hard to hold on to in a rebuilding mode. I am confident there is very little teams willing to become trade partners with the Canadiens right now. They know the Habs are trying desperatley to dump all the dead wood. No team wants our dead wood and not a lot of teams even want the wood that is still alive. Guess is we do nothing by end of day tomorrow and it will be not for a lack of trying.

I also think Price, Cole and Pleks and others are all wanting out of Montreal. The team is poorly managed and not willing to change. This only translates to many years before the team gets into contention again and these young studs want to win.

    • powdered toastmann says:

If the Hab’s owner is only now just starting to realize the extent to which BG and PG have decimated this team talent/character wise and have left it virtually unable to defend itself from a physical standpoint, this team is in much deeper trouble than we originally thought. Many, (including myself, of whom I’ll be the first to admit have absolutely no hockey credentials aside from playing pick-up hockey) had seen the headlight on the approaching freight train well over a year ago.

  40. joeybarrie says:

Whew. For a few minutes there is thought we might accidentally come back and beat the Panthers.
Help the Caps get in the playoffs and hurt our shot at the top five.

FLASHBACK: GAME 7 BELLEVILLE BULLS VS SUDBURY WOLVES
Score is tied, overtime. P.K. Subban throws a vicious elbow on Matt Diaz coming down the wing. So blatant that it tears Diaz’s helmet off. Penalty called, of course. Wolves score on the power play, and go on to the OHL final. Something tells me this type of “decision making” hasn’t gone away and never will.

We all know the Panthers absolutely need to make the playoffs, so why not entice them with this:

Pleks + AK for Huberdeau +Zachary Hyman + 2nd round pick

That should help Florida win a round….

  68. Dulljerk says:

This team is an AHL team, and I don’t expect much from the trade deadline. No one trades for slugs.

“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”

  69. AH says:

    2 questions:

    1) Just what exactly was it that Kaberle was supposed to bring to our powerplay?

    2) Where are all those “dirty goals” Bourque was supposed to score?

  70. scrowe21 says:

It sucks that Columbus basically has Yakupov locked up.
I joked last year about MTL getting Yakupov.. So close..

  71. Wow.. As Borat would say : “Milbury is so smart… NOT”

  72. arcosenate says:

I think Karlsson should be MVP actually.

  73. SmartDog says:

Markov – dumb signing, at VERY LEAST it should’ve been a lesser amount and/or a shorter term
Campoli – BAD back-up plan. Just poor talent evaluation and a waste of cap space
Kaberle – TERRIBLE back-up plan, and another bad long-term contract

If Plekanec is traded AND Gauthier is not fired, I am going to follow Plekanec’s new team instead of the Habs. I’m done with this bullshit. I just can’t keep watching while Gauthier f-ks up this team trying to look like he’s doing something important. It’s just f-n horrible what this guy does.

    ————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

    • JoeC says:

Campoli was cheap and a 1 year, that wasnt that bad a signing

      • SmartDog says:

I think he’s 1.75. No, there are a lot worse signings – even just this year, but total it up it’s about 13 million to fill one spot – BADLY.

        ————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

    • boonie says:

You can add picking up Bourque — Bourque is not great on the PP … or 5-on-5,” Mike Boone.

We can blame PG for suggesting these moves. But, the real blame a goes to Geoff Molson. The buck stops with him. And, given the tumult this team has endured this season, he must have signed off on every contract addition and major signing.

    • HardHabits says:

      It stinks.

    • MontrealAtheist says:

I have been against the Markov signing right from the start … His past accomplishments notwithstanding, Markov is just too old and too sensitive to offer anything substantial to the team going forward. We would have been much better off with a good Canadian boy who can take a beating on the ice without calling in sick for a year.

BG and PG have been a curse for this team and their mismanagement have cost this team dearly.

Here’s hoping that a last-place finish in the conference might be a catalyst for the much-needed change that we so desperately need. PG is a goner and the sooner he gets kicked out of the franchise the better for all of us.

All the coaching talent we have had in recent years was let go without any good reason, thus leaving us with little to fill the current void.

  74. Danno says:

Molson is going to have to come up with creative promotions to entice fans and keep attendance up next season.

If things keep going like this free beer might be his only option.

  75. Rad says:

So to reiterate: Gudbranson knocked the snot out of White to set the tone at the end of the 1st. Game was over right there and then folks. Panthers made their statement. What could the Habs do after that? NOTHING. The Panthers broke Montreal’s will, then scored 2 goals in the 2nd to take the lead for good, then Barch hammered another small Hab into to the boards towards the end of the period to make sure the Habs didn’t get any ideas of making a comeback.

The NHL is a man’s league, folks. Mike Boone called it “Take no prisoners” — and that’s exactly the way the NHL game is played. The toughest win and survive. The smallest lose and go home to nurse their bruises. Why did Boston win the Cup last year? Because they have the baddest ass of them all….Zdeno Chara….the same man beast that broke Max Pacioretty’s neck and left him almost dead on the ice in Montreal.
