Liveblog: Canadiens beat Panthers 1-0 in OT

BourquePanthers

The Canadiens’ fourth overtime pairing – Alex Galchenyuk and Rene Bourque – produced the game’s only goal.
And your Montreal Canadiens – with Shootout and OT wins – swept the Sunshine State.

Galchenyuk – making a brilliant play on crap ice – set Bourque up for the winner.

‘Fess up: When they headed south after that embarrassing loss to the Leafs, did anyone think the Canadiens would be headed home with four points in the bag?

Carey Price stopped 26 shots for his first shutout of the season, 17th of his young career.

Me and the misses are both habs fans so as per tradition we are doing it doggy style so we can both watch the game but she has now lost interest so I am having a beer by myself.

    Thanks a lot habs

My God, does that guy Tweet.

    A lot.

Even the comments are weak tonight (this one included yes). Valentine’s Day has everyone off their game.

Palushaj scored for the Avs tonight

FEARLESS PREDICTION: 3rd’s a break out period…habs win 6-4…..and on the 11 o’clock news, American ‘Taxidermist’ provides pictures proving beyond the shadow of a doubt, once and for all that “ELVIS IS ALIVE AND WELL”

Would rather watch my cat clean himself…way more exciting

Someone please tell Pacioretty the season has started.

Bettman will be glad to see Hockey is alive and thriving in the sunshine state.Montreal has more fans than this at most practices.

It’s at times like this I always reflect on a line Henry Blake had on M*A*S*H* when watching a film of Frank Burns’ wedding with Hawkeye, Trapper, Radar and Klinger: “They sure did invite a lot of empty chairs.”

With that, I shall take the crown for making the most obscure reference of the night.

  12. TMan1969 says:

They had more aggressiveness against TO…more energy…more shots….boring, safe game…better wake up because Philly is going to shock them

  13. Jimmy9Toes says:

Can’t watch the game, but reading all the comments on here. First of all, its a shortened season with way too many games in a short period of time. Secondly, we are not losing. Get a lucky one or at least make it to OT and at least a very valuable point.

  14. Habbu says:

This is soooooo boring,……….like going camping with a couple who don’t drink.

YAWN …. call this NHL hockey? Cant believe i broke down and ordered CENTER ICE on BELL today. Was not going to have it this year because of greedy lock out. Love my habs but they stink. Not even gonna watch the third. Got work to do.

Once upon a time, low scores were common before people started confusing hockey with ‘entertainment’.

People who want ‘entertainment’ should watch the WWE. It’s even got the word ‘entertainment’ in the name of the league.

    • Adidess says:

Habs are on the road. Play ugly and get points (hopefully a win) would make this game a perfect one. Nothing so far to make one feel justified having taken refuge in the basement away from the wife, but a win will make it ok.

    I’ll tell you one thing right now for free here;

The refs are having a good game.

Happens to be the most boring game since the last ‘backward passing-only’ game was played, but it’s nice to see the refs letting them play.

    For once.

The only thing worse than this game is the town crier home announcers. They need to go back to work at their local Home Depot.

Wasn’t it against the panthers where Huet was in nets and it was 0-0 till the shootout we won but both guys got an official shutout?

    Max just a great imitation of Cole. M G .. It’s contagious!

  28. Prairienewf says:

Notice Cole’s spill on that drive to the net. The ice here is so slow he got carpet burns.

  29. tricolore says:

Good news. Already 2 periods done.

  30. Mondou6 says:

If we allow 3rd period goals at the rate we did at the end of the Tampa game, Florida should score 9-10 goals in the 3rd.

  31. Bill says:

I can’t stand southern hockey teams. It’s pathetic. Especially the Panthers, who have had the ugliest and cheapest looking uniform in the NHL since they came into the league and have never fixed it. That uni looks like it was designed by a middle-school student.

  32. Adidess says:

My explanations for why our PP has underperformed recently relative to first few games.

    1. It was effective at 30%, such a percentage was unsustainable.

    2. We have many players who had been active playing overseas (Makov being especially sharp, also Diaz and Pleks) and they took advantage of rusty opponents with no training camps.

    3. Teams had no idea what we were going to do, this 2 point-men unit had never played together before. They started to be less effective even before PK joined (remember that Ott game where we had tons of PP and couldn’t score).

    4. This new PP design is too predictable (trying to get PK the shot every time). Needs to be more varied, versatile. Looks like MT only wants simple plays (not a bad thing), but guys seems hesitant to create, move into space and make sth happen.

Diaz is less comfortable everywhere, not just on PP. So I don’t think it has anything to do with chemistry personally, but just a point of view.

See the Habs are well in the faceoff circle as usual

  35. tricolore says:

How the state of Florida gets not one but 2 teams is beyond me. Habs are lucky tonight. I am not sure the Panthers realize there is a game on.

  42. Blondie says:

Evenin’ guys, just got in. Haven’t missed much apparently?

  43. jedimyrmidon says:

Even if the Habs win the faceoff, they still lose it cause the Panthers are still the first on the puck.

  44. Prairienewf says:

19-8 SOG for MTL. This scares me. This is where they get one off the crossbar then the shot clock off Weiss’s helmet, off the back of Price’s head…….and in. Folks, you heard it here first.

  45. aversglay says:

    Les Panters looking dangerous.

  46. Bripro says:

The face off winning percentage can’t be very high again tonight.

    • Clay says:

At least it’s not as costly as it always is against good teams.

Not sure, he kind of mucked up that last powerplay. Bad dump in that was immediately cleared, his teammates had to wait for him at the blue line and were at a standstill when he finally put the puck in the zone.
