Liveblog: Canadiens drop fifth in a row

DesharnaisCelebrates

The Canadiens ran into a red-hot goaltender who used to play for them and lost 2-1 to Mathieu Garon and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The team went 0-for-Florida, despite a TB lineup decimated by injuries and flu.

Last place.

The beat goes on.

I said it would take the Habs 92 points to make it to the play-offs. With the Caps, Jets and Leafs playing so crappily I am going to have to change it to 86 points. That would mean 13-6 the rest of the way.

    Stop the Tank™!!!!!!!!!

    JUST KIDDING!!!!!! :-)

haha, at one end Phaneuf gets goal off deflctions and now florida scores a goal deflecting off Phaneuf. Ahh Captain my Captain

  5. Bob_Sacamano says:

Just want to go back to Tampa´s second goal: Yes, Emelin should have pinched and looked back, Diaz wasn´t great either but why tf does Cunneyworth play Emelin on the right and Diaz on the left today? That head coach is a complete and utter joke. Unless he really gets a bonus if we improve our draft position of course…

  6. piper says:

does anyone here see anything in Palushaj game that shows he has a future in this league? I just cant see it.

    • habsfan1144 says:

D’Agonstini for Palushaj…. Don’t even get me started on how we evaluate and develop players.

If we did our jobs as badly as Gainey and Gauthier we’d be fired a long long time ago!!

      • habsfan1144 says:

D’Agostini was bigger, stronger, strong on his skates and had a great wrist shot!

We NEVER give our kids a chance to succed, we stick them into situations they aren’t going to thrive!

    • Mark C says:

It’s this line of thinking that leads to guys like Matt D’Agostini getting traded for Aaron Palushaj.

In all honesty, he’s still really young and has some skills. 22 year olds who score a point-a-game in the AHL generally do OK in the NHL.

  7. duffy says:

Besides being able to kill penalties is there one Positive thing about this team, Ireally don’t think so.THEY ARE FN BRUTAL!!!

Has anyone got a clip, or a link to the Emelin-Malone hit? All I caught was half a replay, and I’d like to see it again.

They should book Kaberle into a nursing home.

  15. faninCalgary says:

For maybe the first time ever, the French Canadian goalie jinx is working in our favor.

  18. habsfan1144 says:

I’ll be happy when Cunneyworth is gone as well.

Anyn coach who puts a guy with 2 goals on the PP over and over again SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!

  19. danhabsfan says:

why does this Habs team make other goalies look like Sawchuck?

  20. manu07 says:

Just turned on the game and saw Kaberle cough up the puck. Anyway, how has Blake G looked out there?

  28. HabsBeen says:

It’ll be interesting if Geoffrion and Leblanc make the team next year. You know les Quebecois would go nuts to see them play with Deharnais. Even though I think Geoffrion is probably more American than french, an all French name line would be a favorite for a while. Than Eller can play between Cole and Pacioretty. Plekanic between Giona and Bourque and White between Moen and Staubitz.

  29. Bill says:

    Bourque, what a sniper.

I’d like to be standing behind RC and smack him upside the head everytime he puts Gomez on the ice for a powerplay.

  32. bellcentre hotdog says:

If there is ever a Broadway Play about the Hab’s 2011/12 season it should be called Les Miserables.

    Starring the Habs’ PP.

  33. otter649 says:

Why can’t Montreal let Subban skate the puck into the offensive zone – It can’t hurt to try…

  34. danhabsfan says:

I suppose that now you all realize that Muller was the coach who made a difference… and this great brain-trust of ours thought it best to allow him to walk away…. another reason for the release of PG (and BG)

  35. faninCalgary says:

Gomez AND Bourque together on the PP. Not an ounce of try between them

  36. Rainrocket16 says:

Kaberle needs to do us all a favor and retire!

    Emelin is a turnover machine

  44. HabsFanMTL says:

i still say bring up Alex Henry, 6’6 240 , pummel’s forwards and will back himself up by dropping the gloves, he would have clocked Malone’s ass

  45. Donnie Murdo says:

    Wow. White Goalies CAN jump!

  46. ifitwasnt4kovalev says:

    GOMEZ HITS THE POST!!!!! LITERALLY

  47. Bill says:

So we’re down to 10 forwards. And Gomez is one of them.

  48. Maksimir says:

AT this point – I hope the Habs lose tonight so that Tampa is closer to reeling in Toronto and passing them in the standings. Also so Montreal locks up a better draft pick. Season is lost – might as well draft high… and make sure the Leafs are dragged down too.

  49. HabinBurlington says:

Wow, on the replay realized how close Garons skate blades were to Palushajs face as he slid underneath, that could have been really ugly.

  50. topher5468 says:

Does Gomez have to stay here for the rest of the season? If he were to either get sent down or benched, it would make the rest of the season a bit more tolerable

  51. punkster says:

  52. L Elle says:

I know It’s redundant, but Gomez sucks.

  53. kempie says:

And in this league, that’s not a penalty shot?

  54. HabFanSince72 says:

    A 5 min PP –

Gomez played at least two maybe three shifts.

Plex none. And he’s not injured.

It’s been said before, but I hope Cunnyworth has a money back guarantee on that Rosetta Stone French language kit. He should trade it in for “AHL Coaching for Dummies”.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

  55. slapshot777 says:

Yet you condone what Malone that piece of shit for what he does. He has been looking for trouble since the start of the second period.

I guess you missed the cheap hit on Emelin by Malone. Since like you said when Emelin does something like that expect to get jumped, well the same could be said for that dirty hit by Malone.

  56. tote-road says:

Finally, Palushaj puts something in the net!

  57. Mavid says:

Malone gone for the night…awww…i was so hoping our newbie would lay a beatin on him

  65. JoeC says:

So, why the F are they still showcasing this POS Gomez, tradedeadline is gone, NO ONE WANTS HIM STOP PLAYING HIM SO MUCH!!

Oh wait, the tank all revolves around playing Gomez on every PP, i now get the ghosts masterplan…

Why do i still watch these games :(

  66. twilighthours says:

Honest to god it’s so sad that some of you non-hockey players are so enraged at Malone on Emelin.

If Emelin is going to throw those kind of hits (blatant interference), then he’s going to get jumped.

You can argue all you want about what should happen or what Emelin shouldn’t have to do, but these are the facts of hockey. Throw a cheap hit; expect to get jumped.

No one else cares that he’s got a plate in his face.

  67. bellcentre hotdog says:

    Ryan Malone obviously has issues.

  68. tote-road says:

Wyman couldn’t play for this team, but Palushaj can?

  69. faninCalgary says:

I believe Gomez gave the puck away three times on that PP

  70. riddler says:

Can we take the American political debates to another forum. This is a hockey blog!!!!

  71. joeybarrie says:

    Pathetic.

  72. HabinBurlington says:
