Carey Price stopped all three shots in the Shootout.
And the recently-maligned David Desharnais beat Anders Lindback to salvage a 4-3 win.
The Canadiens were playing a textbook road game.
They led 3-0 with six minutes to go.
Then disaster struck … three times.
The home team scored three times on seven third-period shots.
The Canadiens had a power-play during Overtime, but Anders Lindback was spectacular.
The Shootout:
Hedman: Save
Galchenyuk: Miss
St. Louis: Save
Desharnais: GOAL!
Stamkos: SAVE!!!

The experts are out en masse again. No wonder all the hockey pundits sound the same – everyone says the same thing in a different way, same over-reaction in a different statement.
Two fluke goals, excrement happens, but they battled hard, dominated OT, and won the SO. JM’s team would have lost in OT after being completely demoralized.
Yeah, the game should have ended way before OT, but it was bad luck, a goal that was a complete fluke, and a penalty that should not have been, resulting in another ridiculous goal. The important thing is they didn’t lose confidence. Carey came back strong and we had them on their heels again. I’ll take the 2 points and walk out because this was not a steal.
Feels good to get off the losing track. Here’s to a new streak.
So true.

PK was being benched for his lack attention on TB’s first goal. That was all on him. Really the coaches are in a no-win situation. They need to make guys accountable, especially when they’re slack on effort… but if you’re going to do that to your best D, it’s going to hurt. I don’t agree with the length of that benching, but that’s the nature of the beast when you have a smallish, weak D.
We narrowly avoided the choke thanks to Pricey and DD’s shootout goal. At least I’m grateful for that, but Bouillon’s lack of discipline was really the turning point for me. Of course they were going to run Pricey. All he had to do was wrap the guy up and they get the 2. Instead it went 4-4. No discipline (although it’s not as egregious as a Ryan White special…)
2pts. And Moen scored…
Let’s get out of Florida with 4pts and call it a turnaround.
One good thing about this game was that Price was perfect in the shootout,an area where he’s struggled in the past.
Word up, Marc. I posted similar sentiments below. His awful play at the blue-line created the opportunity for their first goal, and we saw where it went from there. Sometimes I wonder if the posters here spend more time with their eyes glued to this site during the game than WATCHING THE GAME.
Agreed about Boullion. Isn’t the coach ultimately responsible team discipline? It is obvious he is giving the veterans more rope. Plekanec’s penalty was lazy but he will never be “punished”. I can understand but he is walking a fine as this can affect team unity.
No one is talking about Plek’s penalty, however. Now that was stupid.
…….and Plekanec get a free ride for his dumb, brainless penalty?
The more i watch the replay of TB second goal , i really can not believe that goal was not overturned, more because ref made wrong call on the ice and the camera showing him batting it in with his fingers extending from his glove must have been false , seems quite obvious he batted it in with his hand..
Subban,Markov,Gorges all worthy D. The rest can take a hike. Its that simple. Get me some monsters behind our blue line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“take your time and hurry up”
Is it me or does Diaz look smaller out there ?
Hey guys, we won…. No need to be so angry.
Sit down, have a drink and enjoy, its happy hour.

I now believe that PK’s days are numbered in Montreal.
For what ever the reason, Bergevin and Therrien do not like him. I think they feel he will upstage people if they let him play his game! This is so obvious that it is shameful.
They’d better not. They need their heads examined if they do.

Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
Not true
PK needs to play a more simple game take less risks and continue to grow and learn his trade, He will learn he has made skills but he can burn you bad tonight he opened the door for TB
DON I posted to you above.
Overreaction Ian. What actually happened tonight was that on TB’s first goal, PK coughed up the puck on our blueline. After that he attempted a misguided check on the TB player on the boards, which he missed, leaving a wide open opportunity for them to score (which they did ). I’m a huge fan of PK, but he’s still young, and he sat on the bench because of those mistakes in hopes he wouldn’t do it again. He’s not being run out of town, he’s being coached. 2 or 3 years ago everyone was saying Carey would never sign here long term because of the way he was treated, but we have him locked up for 6 years. No worries.

k i couldnt watch the last 12 minutes of the game and im hearing alot of PK bashing, what happened with him in the last half of the 3rd?
TOI
Markov – 26:38
Diaz – 24:07
Gorges – 22:09
Emelin – 19:42
Subban – 18:25
Boullion – 17:13
Anyone see a problem here? Playing Marky way too much. Subban needs more minutes.
The first star tonight is the HIO server – I expected full implosion
Calm before the storm?
I know it doesn’t fit the rhetoric of French tyranny, but perhaps now isn’t the time to lead the “PK Oppression” march… I think he should be playing more too, but he kinda demonstrated for the prosecution on that 1st goal. It was terrible.
As for him on the PP, I am not blaming him, but it kinda went to crap when Therrien started putting Diaz on the 2nd wave after Subban joined the team. There was chemistry, and it should not have been tinkered with… doesn’t matter who the players are, their names, or ethnicities.
Can’t believe Subban wasnt out there in ot, there is no chance in hell that this team strikes fear in any opponents eyes before heading to the ice.
I still think that 2nd goal was garbage: Hedman had his arms extended out as if in a crosschecking motion – not exactly in a braking posture where a deflection off a glove would be possible. Probably would be disallowed in most other circumstances.
This just in: weber and Eller to Washington for Thomas Di Pauli! expect an aunouncement by tomorrow morning!
THE FUTURE IS BLACK
I was just preparing a comment that one of the best players on the ice tonight was number 81. My nightmare is coming true. We are turning into the Leafs. Tell me this team is not run by imbeciles.
I am starting a pool – how long before the team turns on Therrien?
“As The Therrien Turns?”
Team won’t turn but definately will split if this faux accountibility keeps going.
Montreal dominated most of that game, so something is working. They have been giving up a lot of late goals this season, so now is a good time to figure out why instead of the playoffs. It’s too bad they gave Tampa a point because they were awful.
Eller had a great game. Too good for a 4th line centre, something will have to give there.
7-4-1…I’ll take it.
People also have to realize that the matchup game isn’t in the favor of the road team..The home team gets the last change..

Clearly this coach has one set of rules for PK, Eller and White and another set of rules for everyone else.
Gee… what was the name of the coach who had this approach… forget now but it wasn’t all too long ago.
Was this the guy who constantly took notes behind the Habs bench?
Perhaps the goal should not be to hire the best Francophone coach.
Is MT making PK a better person by cutting his ice time?
Everytime I see Tim Peel, Dave Jackson and Chris Lee officiate a game involving the Habs, I know the Habs are going to be in a difficult situation to win the game. Some may say it’s not the officiating, but I say just take note of the flow of the game and how it is called with particular attention to those three officials.
If I didn’t know better I woud swear they had money laid down against the Habs to win. I mean just recent games with Peel he was involved in both the Habs / Sabres game where he allows Steve Ott to interfere with Budaj allowing Ott to push Budaj with his skate freeing the puck so Vanek could poke it in. Then to make himself a complete idiot he goes and video reviews the goal to make sure the puck went in. I mean how stupid can you be to do that he just pointed to the puck in the net.
He knew that the off ice officials couldn’t not comment on what Ott did, so what was the point of the video review. Then he comes to the game on Saturday between the Habs / Leafs and continues his dumbness by not even looking at Patches wrist when Grabvoski bites him. I mean at least look you should be able to see the teeth marks.
He didn’t want to look because he knew he would have to give Grabvoski another penalty. Patches had to have a tetnis shot for the bite and then the morons in the NHL couldn’t suspend Grabvoski because of lack of evidence even with pictures of the bite mark. I mean how many faces did Patches have his arm around?
Now we have Dave Jackson who is from Montreal, so I guess his gutless excuse for making stupid calls against the Habs is he wants to show he is unbias towards the Habs. So tonight he can’t see the puck going off the glove, I mean if it went of the stick you would hear a ping or slap of the puck against the stick. Again we go back to the idiots in Toronto and they say inconclusive!!
I could see it hit his glove from the replay and I am sure anybody who watched the game could see the puck hit Hedmans glove as well, yet Jackson and the off ice officials are the only ones who can’t see the puck go of Hedmans gloves. I knew that if any Hab so much as looked the wrong way towards a Tampa player he was getting a penalty and Jackson was looking all over for any little thing and Plekanec helped him out.
Again to show everyone I am unbias towards Montreal and I can call a penalty against Montreal. We all know the Chris Lee Saga from the last two years no need to rehash them again. Next time they are doing a game just watch how the game plays out and what these particular guys do, maybe it’s just me but I don’t think so.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
A deflection off a glove is allowed.
Hedman isn’t allowed to direct it in either (same idea as a ‘kicking motion’), which I think is definitely the logical conclusion based on his posture at the net and unconventional perfect placement of his glove.
I’m as ticked off as you are. A whole lot of jive goin’ on.

Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
2 quick goals in 3rd versus Bruins, tying goal vs Buffalo with less than 2 seconds left,3 goals in quick succession with under 6 minutes to go in 3rd. I’m beginning to think The Count has been behind Habs bench last few games.
MT is lucky they won tonight. Team toughness has become team stupidity. FB taking that retalitory penalty was ridiculous. Maybe instead of blaming PK, MT should look in the mirror. The Habs are the most penalized team and that’s his responsibility. If I was PK, I would be losing it watching Diaz on the last penalty kill with 1 min to go. I’m not saying that Tampa would not have scored, but lose with your best players. Is there anyone on the planet that thinks Diaz is better defensively than PK? If MT keeps treating him like this, he will definately lose him.
Geez, you guys are a tough crowd on coaches, eh? Bash Therrien all you want, but he has the this team in a playoff spot that were dead last in the conference, last year..
Take away the 3 games against OTT (5-1 loss), BUFF (5-4 loss SO), and the Leaf game, and we have looked much different than last year..
We are 7-4-1 to start the season and everyone wants his head..Nothing like jumping off the bridge or anything..lol

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
I predict that neither PK nor Eller will be with the Canadiens by the end of this year.
I am losing faith in Therrien! He is being out coached most games!
His love affair with Emilin and Dias is costing us points. PK did not see the ice in the last 4 min of the game. And he did not see the ice in the 5 min of overtime. PK is our best D man in our end and at puck handling and skating and passing it out of our end.
Therrien is totally responsible for these late game disasters! remember Therrien, you said no excuses, find the solution, or phone me!
Well, we all know Mr Stubbs will not ask this question. Perhaps Jessica will find her balls again and will.
I actually watched your beloved PK Cough that puck up at the blue line that cost them a goal
Never apologize for a win like that. A questionable late goal and 2 questionable penalties. We won the OT and Price was awesome in the shoot out. Cannot understand why MT was not playing PK in the OT espexially with the PP. If he was upset hr was on for 2 goals late one of which should have been disallowed then Markov could have been dealt with similarly in the past few games. My point is you do not cut off your d%#k cause your mad at your wife. We needed those 2 points.
Lack of effort late in the game..That is why he was planted on his arse..

Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
Exactly a D pairing that when you have a 3 goal lead, the opposing team loses any enthusiasm to forecheck and take hits from big shutdown D pairing to make a comeback
Scotty Bowman always said, don’t give up a goal in the first or last minute of a period, so he played the players who gave him the best chance of doing that. Against Buffalo with 2 seconds to go, PK was on the bench, against Toronto in the first minute PK was on the bench, tonight in the last minute PK was on the bench.
When does MT get over this little snit he has with PK….
Did Therrien seriously put Boullion in a shootout or was Boone joking?
Bouillon shot first. Put the puck over the glass.
This was a case of a crappy team barely beating a crappier team… or crappier team beating a crappy team. Either way both teams suck.
Now, Therrien. Who is still loving the guy? Honestly, he is JM 2.0. He is a moron and his hiring just ensured Habs another 2 years of mediocrity.
This team is the SAME as last year, from players to coach.
Good effort for 55 minutes. A couple lucky bounces, the score should have been 3-1. Nice recovery from the stinkeroo last Saturday. Way to go Carey! Deharnais salvaged the extra point which will be needed later. Good on DD.
Okay, so Subban didn’t have the best end of periods.
BUT. He needs to play more minutes! Therrien is treating like Eller. PK basically needs to demonstrate 10x more than any other defenseman to earn the same icetime as any of those Dmen.
If the stats are correct, Subban played less than any Dman except Boullion. He’s only the best Dman on the team.
My allergy to Therrien, it has returned.

Have any of you ever been on the highway and seen two or three motorcyclists riding on stock BMW motorcycles, wearing white pants and white jackets with white gloves? Daddy, mommy and young son, pulling a white trailer? That’s the kind of crowd that I imagine Michel Therrien hangs out with. I could be wrong though. Maybe he has a Harley Hog in his garage. In any case, to me he’s a rocker.

I totally blame Ryan White for this.
Chuky is not ready for NHL
Eller needs more playing time
PK needs more playing time
DD needs less playing time
Gionta needs less playing time
i’ll call him “Sucky Chucky”
Not sure about the first point but you´re completely right about the rest, especially when it comes to Subban, Eller and Desharnais.
When Diaz plays five minutes more than Subban and Desharnais five minutes more than Eller, your head coach might not be the smartest one.
Why wasn’t PK on the PP in OT? thought for sure that was the game and the Habs are pass, pass, pass during it…..can’t this team ever get an easy victory????
I think Eller played really good tonight as well….maybe try him with Cole and DD next game.

Listening to pat Roy on antichambre. This guy knows his stuff. He should be the coach or gm of the habs.
what does he suggest?
Pat Roy will coach the Habs one day. And that day will be sooner then later.
He will.
The opinions read here are worth exactly what you pay for them.
I’d buy that for a dollar
Was pk hurt in the third period and overtime
I’m out, folks. Good win despite the collapse. And the new hamster-driven thingy looks great, too.
Wins all around.
No goals are flukes. Putting the pick toward the net is trying to score. 100 per cent of the shots you don’t take will never go In. TB was trying to score believe it or not. Habs let up because they lack character, leadership, and desire.
It’s called high percentage shots, low percentage shots. Low percentage shots like chucking it in on net and having it go off of 3 guys and in is fluky whether you accept that or not.
Trying to score =/= no goals are flukes
Imagine two scenarios. In one, you have a clean break away. In another, you have a 5 on 5 situation with the puck at the point. In the first scenario, what are the chances that you score let alone getting the puck on net? Really really high. Now take a look at the second scenario with a point shot. What are the chances that the puck gets past 3 or 4 sets of legs and sticks. What are the chances that the puck gets the perfect deflection and bounces its way past a pro goalie and into the net? Really really low. This is why the a goal in the second situation is a fluke. It is an unlikely and unexpected event considering all the variables.
We need someone that win a faceoff. Losing these faceoffs leads to chasing the puck, which leads to dumb penalties. There’s a guy named Gomez in San Jose at 64%.
Knopka.
A little redemption for Price and DD (I’d rather see DD’s role reduced, but hey – if he is playing – I want him to do well).
But I can’t believe that Subban didn’t start the OT powerplay with Markov. Has MT seen Subban fire the puck from the left side before? A 4 on 3 is a great opportunity for that.
I’m not the biggest Subban fan around, but he is the Habs’ best all-around defenceman. Among this group, he should be playing 25 min a night.
Checked the numbers and PK played over 8!!!! minutes less than Markov. Markov looked totally gassed in OT. Don’t know what PK did to tick off Therrien tonight but he should have been on the ice for the PP.
Seriously? Markov looked gassed in OT? Lindback made some outstanding saves in OT, and the 4 on 3 showed Markov at his best, he was all over the ice finding open seams and controlling the play

He did not score.
On that last shot,Price wasn’t buying the s%&# that Stamkos was selling.
at least they didnt get slapped around tonight.
Two of the Lightning goals were complete and utter flukes, one of which was a debatable call. It was pretty ugly, but the probability that this happens again when the Habs are in an identical position is extremely low.
So true, but some people here would rather see this win as a negative for some reason.

I think the problem is talking about protecting a lead…let’s talk about taking the play to the opposition for 60 minutes. If the puck is in their end, it’s tough to get scored on. But they almost never play for 60 minutes.
—————-
Me skull and crossbones arn’t the only thing I plan on raisin’ tonight.
Even sensible posters are chicken-littling it tonight. Montreal was the better team for 55 minutes, and then a nonsense goal that shouldn’t have counted turned the game. MTL was way better in OT, too. This wasn’t anything like the Buff or Tor games. This was a solid game that turned on luck (or bad officiating, take your pick).
Good on DD for finishing in the SO. And good on Price for looking so calm.
The habs were the better team without a doubt for pretty much the entire game. I still can’t believe they counted hedmans goal.
Yup, good on DD for scoring, Price looked like he would will his team to a win in the SO.
Habs were very good in OT. Linback had to make some quality saves during the PP.
I’m sorry, I can’t hear you what with all the noise from the sky falling and all. It’s fricking deafening.

I generally agree. The call on Plekanec was just bad luck — Lacavalier was falling on his aging butt anyways. And then two flukey goals. Still though, one has to wonder why this team can’t take advantage of its opportunities. They are simply not a good team.
Good to see someone saw what actually happened, instead of seeing what they want to see so they can say “I told ya so”. What I saw was a good game by our Habs up 3-0 late. PK loses the puck at our blueline and then misses a check to take himself out of the play for TB’s first goal. Not blaming PK, I love the guy but crap happens. Second goal was very questionable being put ( or maybe directed ) in by a glove close to a crossbar. The tying goal bounced off 2 of our DMen’s skates ffs, 100% BS luck. We deserved the 2 pts for sure. Unfortunately I had a $50 bet on Habs to win in regulation that payed $149, but as a Hab fan, I’m still ecstatic about a Habs win.

A win is a win, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. I find it funny how so many are blaming Price, honestly the only one that was even remotely stoppable was the 2nd goal and that would have taken a miracle. For those who say he is never clutch, well he just stoned 2 of the 3 best players in the league and if I may say so, he made it look easy.
+1 Bravo bravo

Wow, look around the NHL: Rangers blew 3 goal lead against the Bruins, Florida blew its lead against Washington.

People need to stop laying the entire collapse at the feet of the Habs. Would it be awesome if they could prevent fluky multi-bounce goals? Mind control the refs into making good calls? Yes, but that isn’t the case, and sometimes circumstance just means things go sideways at the worst moment.
They got 2pts, and it’s not like they didn’t deserve it. I’d say they did.

oh the bolts are awful for sure. But those bad bounces were the result of JM hockey. Sitting back most of the third. ….maybe we all drank too much canadien kool-aid after the first 8 games and forgot that bthis season was suppose to be dedicated to Seth Jones and Nathan mckinnon.
Totally embarrassing to be a fan of this current team. These goofs are a disgrace to the heritage of the true CH. They have turned a proud club into the laughing stock of the league.
Uhh, we won that one.
