HUGE win.
Your Montreal Canadiens scored three unanswered goals in the thirds period to break open a 2-2 game and finally rack up a W against Toronto.
Rookie Brendan Gallagher’s sixth of the season was the winner.
Red-hot Max Pacioretty’s second goal made it 4-2 and Brian Gionta stripped Phil Kessel to cinch it with an empty-netter.
The Canadiens outshot the home team 40-23.
David Desharnais had two assists for the Canadiens, who played a dominant and disciplined game, taking only one minor penalty.
The Canadiens have at least a point in nine straight games and sit atop the Eastern Conference.
It was their first win in Ontario this season.

if ryder can get it going, we may have four dangerous lines. well three really but the fourth line has a role and right now is playing it really well
Ian, Dave, or Booner
Can you remember when Canadiens management put their motto up in their dressing room at the Forum?
I coach minor peewee Canadiens here and would like to add a banner to our dressing room for our playoffs (starts tomorrow night), but want some history behind it so I can explain why? I know the poem (we infantrymen have it burnt into our minds, hearing it so much unfortunately, ref to our fallen and not November 11th).
Was someone in Management in one of the world wars? Or did someone just think it was a nice piece that made sense?
I read about 1915 and the first Canadiens cup, but who made the decision, and why?

Boy I used to really think TSN was a pretty good neutral station to watch a hockey game – not tonight it wasn’t. I’m not sure if they mentioned the 6-0 blow out in MTL 2 weeks ago about 500 times to slight the Habs or because they were really that amazed… you know… cause blow outs just never happen.
They can argue about the Brown major all they want, but I thought that was a good call. A goon chasing a guy down for a puck he has no chance at getting is bound to end up ugly, I think it was the right call. As for the faceoff that Bozak botched, DD seemed to be ready, what was he doing waving his stick around and gesturing with his hands? The puck wasn’t dropped again, too bad because maybe it should have but why would he just give up on a play like that. I didn’t see TSN give much thought to the bogus penalty shot call or the missed trip on DD when he was face-to-face with Scrivens, causing him to miss the gap in the net by half a foot. The Leafs had no business staying even with the Habs after the first two periods in this one.
Not particularly important, but boy is TSN biased crazy.
I watched the highlights tonight on TSN.ca and you know how sometimes when they show goals then also replay the play-by-play calling the goal. Well for both Toronto’s goals tonight they did that and didn’t for any of the 5 Habs goals. I found that kinda funny.
I have a friend who works at TSN and he is a die-hard leaf fan/hab hater. So i bet the entire newsroom/highlighter creators are like that too.
If you watch the Sports Centre Harlem shake video on youtube you’ll notice a couple of Habs sweaters. So I don’t think it’s as bad as you might think, although I know where you’re coming from, I think Pang and Cuthbert are real homers.
Speaking of the Harlem shake, I can’t believe that’s the new goal song for the Leafs. What a joke, I’d be embarrassed. You might as well have the Leafs skate onto the ice to Gangnam Style.
Ope… Ope Ope Ope….
Yeah, it’s pretty annoying. Their favourite clip is Scrivens making a good save on Gallagher, but putting himself completely out of position.
He was extremely lucky that the puck didn’t end up in the back of the net when Gally put it right back in front of the net.= to Pacs who had his stick tied up.
Telling stat: Habs have highest goal differential in the conference at +15 (tied with second place Pitt.). Leading the east is not an accident.
Every team in the league will watch tonight’s tape to prepare for the Leafs. Good luck Mr. Carlyle…BTW your goalie stinks!

Great game and great effort again tonight. Like the game in Ottawa, our Habs out shot, out worked, and out played the opposition in their own building.
This time we got the timely goals. The Leafs were totally outclassed tonight.
Man … I love that kid Brendan Gallagher.
Outclassed, yes. Their game is to mock the bruin model.

Kaberle looked decent tonight too for a guy who hasn’t played in a month …the pp missed Diaz but kaberle moved thepuck well all night. He can shoot thepuck too when he decides too…might be worth giving hima look on Markovs right on the pp and having Markov play the side he prefers…or have Markov be the triggerman and Kaberle on the left…either way…both are great passers and underated shooters
Good thing we didn’t trade him for a Zamboni then.
As perceptive H I/Oers said every time it was suggested – why trade him? Keep him in case Diaz or Marky get hurt.

Bill: Funny, you have no problem faulting another goalie for poor play yet you seem unable to call Price to task when he underperforms…..
Haha, Price did not underperform the other night, nor tonight, just get over it and cheer him on instead.
You realize he has 11 wins in 16 starts right? Leading the league in wins right? G.A.A. under 2.00, right? .924% right? If he finished the season with those stats, he would be a favorite for the Vezina (obviously 11 wins isn’t enough). Can’t be under-performing very often to have those type of numbers.

Timo will be a tired Habs fan as long as MT as the head coach.

Colby Armstrong was solid I don’t have a problem with him like so many do here. He might not be scoring but he plays good 4th line minutes.

Yep. I think he took a late hit that looked like a slew foot. Camera was pulling away as it was behind the play.
Noticed it too. Delivered by that idiot Orr. Refs let it go ’cause of earlier major/game misconduct.
“May you live in interesting times.”
he turned and blocked a shot on an early rush..that would be my guess…they don;t hurt until you take your skate off…then you find out what you are dealing with most of the time

Wedding Crashers Rule #71: No excuses. Play like a champion!
I mentioned earlier today we had the better all around team and they proved it tonight. just a great game by everyone. They played smart and didn’t get sucked in by the goons.
All you need against the goons is a good power play and the goons will lose all the time.
The team is playing Great. MT and and the rest of the coaching staff is doing an excellent job.
Helps when the other coach is so stupid that he dresses too many goons and plays the worst one with two of his best players. He must think Kadri is Grtezky and Orr is Semenko…

Man, I’m hoarse from ‘quiet yelling’ at my tv so as not to wake my kid. Those refs were brutal. Why is it that hard-fought games, full of good checking, fast play and good flow get effed up by the zebras, while games with cro-magnons charging like gurkhas at opposing players gets the ‘let’s just let ‘em play’ treatment?!
I freakin’ LOVED our pressure in their zone. Endless forecheck. They couldn’t get the puck out with a bazooka. We just kept pinching and skidding it back in.
Great great game. Big win.

LOL…Carlyle played Orr all night with his two best offensive players…made it easy for Therrien
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Carlyle is a one trick pony. He benefits from slack officiating and weak powerplays.
When either of those factors aren’t in play, his team has little chance to win – especially with Scrivens in net.
That second Pacioretty goal was a frigging laser.

Does anyone else hold their breath every time Gorges retrieves a puck under pressure…for some reason I am always worried he is going to get hurt…just womething about the way he approaches the boards. For years he has seemed to almost get creamed multiple times every game….I can’t pinpoint what it is but something doesn’t look conventional when he goes back into a corner for a puck

I am also a teacher and my Hab colleague and I will give it to the Leaf staff tomorrow. Finally.
But I waaaaasn’t ready!
Prust got 17 minutes and he along wioth Gallagher absolutely owned the boards….ithe ogre Leafs played the body…they just spun off their sad attempts and maintained possession or made a play. The Leafs don’t even put a stick on a stick or acknowledge the puck …they hold their hands up like little kids and even when they connect on the hit they do not get possession…
Re Prust’s board work: I was thinking that too. He’s been getting
better and better at that every week. He’s just a beast lately!
Not only does he keep possession but he’s consistently creating plays from it.
Seriously, if he can keep this up he might turn himself into a bonafide 2nd line player. I’m totally impressed. What a stud signing. Now only if we had Talbot also!
Gally is one smart little player to be able to not only survive along
the wall but also keep possession etc as you say.
So happy right now that even the trolls can put a damper on it. All my Laugh buddies better get ready for a payback like they have never seen. I expect for a few no shows tomorrow.

Sweet Win…..should have been 8-0…..Gallagher all over the knuckledraggers!
After we lost to them the other day, I didn’t think I’d cheer for the Isles, but tomorrow night I’ll be hoping their power play is hotter than when they played us so they can kick those laffs while they’re down.

The real first star was Gallagher, followed by Prust and then Desharnais IMO….in that order. I actually thought Pacioretty fought the puck all night….yet he still managed two….he is the real deal but the other three guys I mentioned I thought had better games.
3rd period is when Pac’s game came together imho.
I thought Arm had a good game, finally….aside from his good PK
work all season that is.
Leafs were slow and goonish. Habs quick and structured. Though the ref was lenient toward leafs chippy play and contact on Price.
Gorges was rocked a few times. Bounced back every time. What a beast on D.
That hit on Gorges could have been disasterous…I know I am biased, and I know that McDonaugh is concussed, but the hit on Gorges tonight seemed WAY more dangerous than the one Pacioretty dished out, mainly because of the speed that they were going at. I hope Brown atleast gets a call from Shanahan for that.
———————————-
Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant.
Absolutely agree. Had Gorges been off balance at all or ,especially,
been bent forward he could paralized. It was that dangerous.
I can’t believe how even ex-players like Ferraro,Ward and Pang
wouldn’t recognize that. For once a ref made a rational decision.
canadiens goal differential now plus 15…only behind chicago and tied with Pens

Subotai: No. It would only lead me back here another day. In even worse company.
Conan: For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm.
That’s what they gotta do, that’s how they win. They can’t allow themselves to get suckered into a goon-fest. Games are won on the scoreboard, not on the hit column or through fighting majors. So long as the team plays with toughness and sticks up for itself, then they will be successful at their game.
I don’t think the leafs even knew there was a puck on the ice the whole first period. All they were focusing on was the hitting. What an embarrassment.

Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant.
Now this is funny well said!
ON the PP I’d put Emelin with Markov and Subban with Diaz (when he gets back)
On the PP I’d put him in the pressbox. wha? jis skidding b’y.
two left handed shots together (Markov and Emelin) and two right handed shots together (Subban and Diaz)É
“Et le but!”
Subban-Emelin and Markov-Diaz then.
yeah that is what I have been saying. since before the season began.
“Et le but!”
I’d like to see emelin get chance on the PP. He has a bomb of a shot, better option then bouillon.
Anyone care to elaborate on the Diaz concussion? I was at work and missed the news on him. I was shocked when I turned on the recorded game and saw number 22 on the ice.
Chrisadiens and HabFan10912, one of the few father son tandems on HIO.
No one really knows how he got it, may be at practice or something? It’s too bad, but I hope he recovers well.
Apparently it happened against Ottawa. Can’t pinpoint exactly when.
Injured from a spill during the Sens game hit his head on the leg of a Sens player as he fell if I recall correctly

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Yep. The mishap happened during the Sens game.
RDS has video. Looked like Ottawa player’s foot came up and clipped Diaz on chin as they both tumbled along the boards.
Thanks to you and all who replied. ‘Preciate the info.

Oops pardon me screech b’ys. What i meant to say was …if PRICE doesn’t soon get more shots he’s gonna catch pnemonia. Dryden may be my fav all time hab but when he didn’t get lots of shots he looked like a fish out of water. The kid’ll be iree b’y.
Yes b’y. Carey is at his best when he gets alot of shots.
Carey is a goalie who seems to need more shots but Dryden sure wasn’t. In fact his biggest strength was standing around watching the game for 25 minutes and coming up with a huge save. I remember in the 70′s he’d sometimes have less than 10 shots in a game and still be sharp when needed. As an old goalie that still amazes me!
Bozak’s Blunder was hilarious! Gallagher didn’t quit on the play like the laffs clown center.
Hoping Brown gets a suspension. What a jackass move, hitting Gorges like that.
MaxPac and DD doing the job. Kaberle +1 and 14:55.
13-4-3. Nicely!!

Payback for The leafs may have been a questionable pentalty shot by Grabovski but Price took the bite out of his shot & made an easy save……
Is Moen still worth it?

I say absolutely not. He’s done nothing since signing that contract. Doesn’t hit, doesn’t win battles, total disappointment. Weakest link.
Full Breezer 4 Life
That’s how I see it too. He just doesn’t use his size in a tough enough way to make a difference. Seems to be lacking intensity all the time.

I’d say to keep Moen until his retirement. Moen is an efficient 3rd or 4th line player who has above average skills and a good line mate. His 06-07 Cup goal makes him still a valuable player.
M. Bergevin rules.
Talking to my brother on the phone who is in Port Alberni BC on Vancouver Island during the second period & both of us had the game on but he was telling me The Habs second goal & a couple of other plays/hits about 3 or 4 seconds before it happened and I am in Oakville.Ont and watching the game on a delay compared to someone in BC who gets the play sooner than I – A little bit strange since I am in Ontario……
It’s the new TimeTravel™ TV from Bell. PVR future games! Win bets with no worries. Be the king of the over/under. The possibilities are endless!
Ontarians are late getting most everything lol….’cept for you that is…I mean ya know eh b’y.

I was watching TSN and couldn’t help noticing that some comments about plays got posted really quickly. I was marvelling at the typing speed actually.
Depends on how you watch it. Cable, Satellite, Antena, Streaming are all different delays. When I’m watching on Antenna talking to my buddy in Vegas who’s watching on cable, I’ll sometimes see it 30 seconds before him.

To those Price detractors.
Scrivens ended the game with a .875 save %, Price with a .91 save % – so let’s stop conjuring these silly statements about Price not making a difference for us. He shut it down in the third and kept the team in the game until they exploded for 3 goals. Big team win.
He came up huge in the 3rd Jackal. Man, it feels good to beat the Leafs!
Chrisadiens and HabFan10912, one of the few father son tandems on HIO.
Yep. He was great after that weak goal and he knew he should have had it. Good goalies play better when that happens.
Yup, the thing is, he probably thought it was offside and didn’t try to stop it. It’s ridiculous how that was not called.
Oh well, good win, guess we need to debate Eller vs. DD again to keep the fire going here.
Not really. They’re both playing great.
Moen is the new whipping boy now. He needs to step it up.
Get with the program Jackal.
Haha, Moen must be in the dog house if he is being whipped over Armstrong on here!
Don’t stop playing until you hear the whistle blow.
Richard R
Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
Ask the players, Price’s calm, steady goaltending is a huge part of Habs success this year. He’s really matured nicely.
A thought to go to sleep with – Habs are 10 points up on 9th. And 2nd overall in the NHL. For all the angst they cause us, tonight is a good night to be a Habs fan.
Leafs are now in 7th and Philly, Tampa, the Isles and Rangers could all catch them. They are actually a very poor team albeit with good goaltending, and they will be out of the playoffs again this year.
And here’s why Randy Carlyle is a fool:
Player: Time On Ice:
Colton Orr 14:55
JvR 15:06
Kessel 15:40
Not convinced the Leafs have ‘good’ goaltending with so many rebounds.
I’d say their defensive system is improved over last season.
And yeah, Colton Orr playing almost as much as Kessel and JVR would have had much more impact on the game than that blown faceoff.
Scrivens = very weak glove hand side

There was a point where i was crying out for blood tonight. Good thing im not coaching, tonight was the perfect example of how every hockey team at any level should play the game.

the hosts on TSN1050 Toronto (I think former player Jeff O’Neil was on there) were just ripping Carlyle for playing Orr that much. I don’t think hes played that much since junior.
Who stops playing after they loose a draw to complain, and then you and the coach scream at the refs after?
They played dirty all night but les glorieux stayed wayward true. Everyone played and no one drifted.Tsn staff were eating crow and seeing the light midway through the second.
5-1(first leaf goal was interferance)
Nah,nah nah nah…..suck it!
He didnt get a point but i dont care!

It was really an astonishing moment.
If someone gave up on a play like that in my beer league they would never hear the end of it.
I figure I see 3000 or so faceoffs a year and i dont think I have ever seen anyone give up on a play like that
“Et le but!”
Leafs first goal wasn’t interference. By the time Price got pushed, the puck was already behind him.
That’s the right interpretation.
big win for the boys tonight!
glad they were able to pull through after some tough luck bounces. The score very easily could have been 7 – 2 had they been able to bury some of this grade A scoring chances in the second.
Gallagher was a target all night. man that kid plays as if he’s 6’3″. reminds me of a young Brian Gionta or Marty St. Louis.
The fact that we’ve got a point in all but 4 games this year is truly incredible.
Habs record vs Northeast now 3-4-2.
They’ll even it up against Boston with Michael Ryder playing a major role.
I’m in Texas tonight and listened to the game on XM radio. Toronto announcers. Jaysus! They’re really, really bad. More than just homers, really, really bad. Great game boys, my glass is overflowing. Literally and figuratively.
You can’t be both a Habs and a Leafs fan
still would like to see PK knock the odd guy down sometime
Suck it TSN!

the amount of people i texted “suck it” to after the game is almost comical!
Leaf Fans should enjoy their so called goon squad while they can cause once Frattin & Lupul come back it will be reduced by 2…….
great game, habs finally beat toronto.le buuuuttttt.habs totally dominated. whats even better,is wakeing up and haveing coffee and watching sportsdesk, and finding out the habs beat the leafs in their own barn.ryder will fit in with the team after a few games, great move bergy..
Leafs Nation has a new, original excuse for losing this one.
Officiating.
If we had goons we would have won 10-0!
agreed
47-0, actually, depending on the goons. Everyone understands that.
TAKE THAT TORONTO! Good job boys, keep up the great work! go habs go!
http://nickolaisblog.wordpress.com/
Love the way this team competes. If only Molson had fired the dunderheads about 3 years ago. Energy and hard work and it starts at the bench. But….put Galchenyuk back at centre and get rid of Moen. I’d rather have White (omg) on the ice. Moen is a zero.
No idea who would vacate centre-ice, but Chucky is a natural center.
Desharnais back to playing really well again. Skating smoothly, passing well in tight space, in control with the puck. All of a sudden, he doesn’t look so small anymore. Crafty little guy!
And a bargain at $875,000 a year.
A brilliant underpaid superstar.

Dion Phaneuf is a real turnover machine isn’t he?
I’m really looking forward to the games vs the Pens and Bruins. Those are the top 2 dogs in the East IMO. The real tests.
Uncle Ben Dobbin always called the flag “The toronto flag” lol
How much whining do the TSN announcers do. They couldn’t get over the faceoff draw. They wouldn’t know as if they were the only team that this ever happened too. Then they were harping about the five minute major Brown took.
It was the right call, you could see Brown push him into the boards. Darren Pang, was useless as a goalie and continues as an announcer. Even when they were trying to give the Habs the praise, anyone notice how they were so bent on talking about he Leafs, that they would insert the Leafs in where it should have been Habs.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
