Captain Brian Gionta scored the 20,000th goal regular-season goal in the Canadiens’ glorious NHL history.
The goal drew the Canadiens even at 3-3, six minutes into the third period.
The celebration didn’t last long.
Radek Martinek beat Carey Price with the Islanders’ 17th shot.
John Tavares squelched any hope of a comeback, and Colin McDonald scored into a vacated net to make it 6-3.
The loss was the Canadiens’ first in regulation since the Leafs stomped them 6-0 at the Bell Centre on Feb. 9.
Since that embarrassment, the Canadiens had gone 11 games in which they’d notched at least a point.
The Canadiens outshot the Islanders 32-24.
And they stayed atop the Northeast Division and the Eastern Conference because Boston lost in overtime, blowing a 3-0 lead in Washington.
Michael Ryder had three assists.

Well, don’t have a cow, man. Good night.
…meanwhile, Dustin Tokarski gets second consecutive shutout as ‘Dogs defeat the Heat 2-0
…just sayin’
But what about Bob Mayer?
Didn’t he stop like 7 million shots only to lose in overtime???

LOL…you never know. Crazy they traded Desjardins for him.
Price has reverted back to 2010, he is playing deep in his net, not challenging shooters and his angles are bad!
Something is not right with him whether in the room or at home!
His body language is saying he is looking to assign blame on every goal and on top of Prices’ own problems his D is doing little to help!

What does the Commissioner of the NHL do?
In short, a league commissioner is the action man for the Board of Governors.
They tell him what they want done and he works to make it happen through his subordinates while making sure that individual franchises play by the rules.
******** Translated if you haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 40 years your NHL team is becoming irrelevant in a sports mad city long behind MLB, NFL and NBA teams, you just tell the commissioner(who you gave a new contract at 7 plus million per) to make it happen and the rules are bent sufficiently to action the command.
I get the loyalty bug the Price lovers unconditionally have for the young ,yet to be ‘SuperStar” but I ask these supporters ,would you trade Carey for Crosby or Malkin or Ovie or how bout Lou and Kassian?
In my eyes, Crosby yes, Malkin, notsomuch. Ovie, hell no. BobbyLou and Kassian, no.

Yes, yes, no, and yes. Either situation our team is as good if not better.
Price for Crosby or Malkin straight up? Come on. I’m probably one of the biggest Price fans on here but even I would do that in a heartbeat. Anyone who says they wouldn’t is just lying.
Ovie, not even if the Caps paid his contract.
Lou and Kassian, no thanks. That’s kind of a lateral move, IMHO. We get a little worse in goal and a little better up front.
Crosby only; he’s very passionate in every game.
Anyone know if Bourque and Diaz are close to returning? Are either of them travelling with the team?
Last I heard they’re both on IR and not on the road trip ’cause of the concussions.
Gotcha, thanks.
kaberle blows. too tentative. bring up a bulldog defenseman or play Weber. Price needs to smudge himself.
At least we know that if Therrien plays Budaj, Bergevin isn’t coming down from the rafters to take his place behind the bench. LOL
How many people think that 3 times would have been a charm had Martin not had that “2 million dollar bonus if you fire me before my contract is up” penalty?

have a look at this!!
Check it out, per a Brian Wilde retweet:
“In 6 games since being dealt to MTL, Dustin Tokarski has a .960 SV%. 27 save shutout tonight for Hamilton.”
Call him up??
Of course I’m kidding. Price is in a mini-slump (mini so far anyhow) but he’s obviously still our only chance at making noise come playoff time.
Personally, I think the best thing for him is to keep playing. With Carolina, Tampa and Florida coming up, the Habs might be able to weather another bad performance or two and still win those games. Hopefully though, he bounces right back to form.
Explain to me again why Yzerman dumped him? Still does not make any sense…
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Right? It seems like a weird deal with the ages of the players involved. When it happened, I remember reading that Yzerman was looking for some veteran goaltending on the farm, hence the move for the older Desjardins.
Still though, it seems like we got the better, younger player and it was a straight swap. Odd for sure.
Yzerman did not dump him. TB have some pretty good goalie prospects. What they needed was a vet in the system. Boucher knows Dejardins, and likes him alot. Now Desjardin is the vet for the prospect in the AHL, plus if they need a call up they have a vet ahl goalie who can play a game here and there if needed.
TB is very high on Desjardin for that type of roll and that’s why they made the trade. They saw a goalie who they felt would not be in the long term plans of the team and traded him for something they need right now. Low cost trade for them.
Goaltender controversy!!

“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
I didn’t watch the game as I was doing some serious OT tonight. I was watching the score though and all I can say is Price is playing well below expectations. I think he needs to start playing more aggressively and stop thinking that he can just naturally win games as if by divine right or because he has thoroughbred blood.
There is a certain nonchalance and carelessness about Price’s play at times which when he is on his game makes it looks like it’s so easy, but as of late he’s been backing into his net rather than facing and challenging his opponents, and he is also looking like that nonchalance and carelessness is also a lack of putting in enough of an effort.
As others have said, Price has yet to steal a game this season, but he has cost the Habs his last two starts. It’s a bad trend and it needs to be nipped in the bud now.
I am not throwing him under the bus. Just being real.
Your avatar is now 8-1-3. Sorry, that’s being real.
What a burn. And it was on such a roll too.
Indeed, it’s a nice avatar, HH.
Your realism lately is justified, scary, but justified. I can’t remember hearing so much iron being hit with Price in nets…the score could have been MUCH worse.
Alot of people are mentioning “the big saves.” How does one define a “big save?” Being in the right position on a deflection? That happens out of pure luck. A 2 vs the goalie cross ice pass, goalie makes a glove stop? Goalie’s down trying to cover as much net as possible, and unseen, the puck gets lifted over the shoulder? A “big save” is so broad in definition, it’s almost beyond description. Every save is a big save as far as I’m concerned. Price is in somewhat of a funk, and hopefully sooner than later he will pull out of it.
Haters gonna hate. I just don’t get why some go out of their way to bash the guy.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!
IMO, a big save is a timely save..If your team scores late in the game to tie it up, you don’t let in a softy from the point..It may have been deflected, but I still think it was weak and very stoppable because he wasn’t out far enough to cut down the angle..Price has been caught deep in his net and down on his knees more often than not, lately..I have confidence that he will work out these kinks, but he still can’t be letting in 17 goals in a 3 game stretch.. Like I have said in an earlier post, its great that he can make the routine save, but how about coming up with a big/timely save from time to time?
——————
Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
There was a couple of 1 v 1 saves that I saw, missed the 2nd period as I was picking up my wife from work, but the TSN guys weren’t faulting Price when he got scored on twice, so I’m kinda going on missing visual info.
____________________
DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!
Again, I am not blaming Price for any of the losses, but he hasn’t really contributed to stealing any games, lately, either..We really needed him tonight to come up big a few times simply because this team has forgotten how to play solid defense, lately, but he didn’t really bail us out…Sometimes, your goalie, especially a guy of Price’s talent, needs to be able to bail you out from time to time..
——————
Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
True, and as I said, he is in a funk right now, and I hope he pulls out sooner than later. Everyone wants lights out goaltending here, but it will not always be the case, no matter who is in front of the net.
____________________

Actually, a little help in front of Price would help, but still, he needs to be more aggressive and stop being so nonchalant..

Okay Erskine would be nice is there anyone else you’d be interested in?
http://nickolaisblog.wordpress.com/
I am a huge Price supporter and I was glad they kept him over Halak because I think he has that swagger that Elite Goalies possess, but he really needs to make saves that aren’t routine, lately..I can honestly can’t remember when he last stole a game for us..
People that are simply looking at the standings have to realize that we are in 1st despite average goal tending..When we have a bad night, like tonight, we needed Price to step up and make a big save, especially after tying it up in the 3rd, but he failed..
Again, I am not entirely blaming anything on Price, but it would be nice to see him come up with a big save more times than he has…
——————
Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
Defense not very good either…
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Exactly, the team out front has come back on several occasions, playing over their heads and just making things happen. Price needs to do that. I am not going back to the Halak vs Price debate because that is old news. But just think when Price finds his game, this group will be unbeatable.
Price should bring his cowboy hat. That wear is probably full of confidence.
Deuce 6-YOU ARE RIGHT!!-Price has NEVER ever stolen a game for us that I can remember.Halak stole NUMEROUS games including 2 playoff series.Price has had a horseshoe over is head forever.A caller on the radio said it best.Price has given up 5 goals,6 goals, and 7 goals in the last few games.(In his career he has only won 1 playoff series!!!) He is statistically been an average goalie over his entire career. He is noticebly SLOW laterally and teams are now exploiting this.He has no glove hand.I can only hope that Bergevin really meant what he said that he is ALWAYS trying to make the team better.TRADE PRICE for a real power centre and in one fell swoop we will have 2 good lines.
Conner Mekenna on TSN 990 is tired of all the Carey Price haters.Well why has Price always been “hated”????? My opinion is that nobody hates Price. They hate his play. That is certainly my position.Put in nets the goalie who is playing the best.PERIOD.It is only FAIR and CORRECT!Do whats best for the team! (I will never understand the horseshoe that Price lives under).
I don’t think that is what I am saying, at all..lol
——————
Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
I think Peter Parker loves MaryJane too much
Here we go……….throw Price under the bus……….the whole team was a mess, flat as a pancake I wish fans [I think they are fans????} would get off Price’s back I am still asking the question .Why does Budaji always protected more than Price the players are all to blame for the loss to-nite SHAME ON YOU GUYS .Yes we are still in 1st place but playing like to nite we are going down fast.STAY OUT OF THE BOX guys. Play Price until he comes out of it also keep in mind any team would be glad to have him, sooooooooooooooWATCH WHAT YOU WISH FOR…………GO PRICE GO……..you to PK
Really?
Overreaction, Budaj is not more protected than Price, that is the same lame excuse people made for Halak’s success. Price plays the puck, sometimes too much, that is throwing off the D. They clearly have no idea what he is going to do right now. And his rebound control was terrible tonight, fought the puck from the first shot.
But please, because Price allows 7 or 5 goals is not a result of the team out front all the time. Sometimes the goalie is at fault. Budaj seems more protected in your sense of thinking because he is not a puck mover, forcing his players back most times to retrieve and make that outlet pass. Carey has not done that like he is accustomed to.
Timing and communication are issues with Price right now me thinks.
Budaj has also had alot of rebounds thankfully go his way.
____________________
DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!
That makes no sense. I am not trying to start a fight but what you said makes no sense. Rebound control is exactly what you are describing is happening to Budaj. Control is the keyword here…
I’ve seen rebounds fly off of Budaj that has cost the team goals this year and last year when the opposition was right in the spot where the puck goes.
____________________
DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!
I won’t even bite. 3 wins (one being just the other night) Budaj allowed 4 goals and made a game saver on Sunday. He has lost two, one in regulation and one in OT or SO?, but none of those losses were a result of the team out front correct? Not like the Price losses.
That attitude, frustrates people. Everyone on this site will tell you they want Price to be the best, he is just not close right now. I can only speak for myself, but I don’t want him traded, unless it involves a package deal with Eberle coming back (watch that kid, a true superstar)
There were some positives tonite! Ryder is fitting in! Gally had a better game! Subban scored a rocket! Price will bounce back!
I am proud to be a HABS fan!

What if Price not bounce back? If you were Bergevin what would you do?
Package him and Subban to EDM for Eberle and Schultz.

Please don’t ever compare a normal taxpayer to professional athletes ever again. It is not even close to being in the same light spectrum.
I wasn’t comparing. I was making an analogy to point out how unfair it is to judge Price before the season is over. A fair evaluation always takes place at the end of the season. It is the same thing in the workplace. Your performance/salary is usually evaluated once a year.
“You’re always, always, always looking to make your team better. Always.”- Marc Bergevin
Bad analogy I guess, this guy is paid BIG bucks to be the best at what he does…in the world. I am not paid at that level.

I actually read that article in the Gazette papers; still hilarious!
Lets remember that you both pay taxes though and Carey much, much more than you I assume.
Look.I have been watching Price since he came up.He was always Gaineys favorite son.I feel that he has NEVER ever EARNED his #1 ranking.Google all the goalie stats over the last 5 years. He is a slightly BELOW average goalie. What disturbs me the most is that he is at the bottom in 1 goal games…i.e. he does NOT win the close games. There are an infinite number of people who have excuses for Carey and this has been going on 5 years!!! I just dont get it.Budaj is NOTICEBLY quicker,so was Halak….anyways thats my 2 cents.
Price is in the top twenty out of twenty million? Not too shabby.

Price is an oyster. Unfortunately not all oysters produce pearls.
Get Erskine.
That would be worth the Price of admission……
was written earlier and I agree on Gorges. not really playing well this year and not justifying his salary (not good offensively and not big shut down = not much for alomst $4M)..we seem to have a few good D in the pipeline with Gorges type abilities with some/ more upsides…wonder if should consider trading him soonish…perhaps someone like Hainsey could be a better stop gap – strange to think Gorges may be missing Diaz
Really, speaking of salaries, what’s with Price already on his knees before all those shots get fired past him lately? How many goal posts that he didn’t even move on? Where’s our standup goaltender?
12 goals in 2 games and still hasn’t stolen a game for his team this year? What gives? Hope the coaches and management are on this…
This times a thousand!!! I am a huge Carey Price fan…a major supporter…however it is this issue that drives me absolutely insane!!! Whenever he is playing really well and he is in the zone he is playing his stand up style. After a few wins he always tends to go back to that bad habit of going down sooooooo early. So many times before the shot is even close to being fired off he is on his knees all over the place. When he stands for those same shots he makes those saves so many times.
I do not expect to win every game…but losing points this season in the way we have tends to be more painful. The losses we have had so far many of them should have been wins…etc. Oh well…I am hoping for a big bounce back game. Go Habs Go!!!
From your mouth to MB’s ears. If the Habs want to contend for the Cup, they need a top 2 defenceman that can play 25 min/game with PK. Markov can’t anymore and Gorges just can’t.
