Liveblog: Canadiens rally late but lose road trip opener 5-4

Iginla scores

Make that six losses in a row in Calgary.
The Canadiens have not won here since January, 2002.
They did make it interesting, rallying from a 5-2 deficit to turn the game into a nail-biter.
But in the end, it was another L in the season from Hell.

  1. habsfan0 says:

    Habs should have kept Hip-Hip-Huet.

  2. Bill says:

Okay, who was the most INVISIBLE Canadien tonight?

    I vote Bourque.

  3. The Jackal says:

On the brightside, patch has more goals than giroux. And saying price is bad or that halak would be better??? Not to bash halak, he was great, but where were the haters last season? Halak benefits from a good team and a good partner, he couldnt play the load price does and be as succesful, nor would we be better off had we kept him.

  4. SmartDog says:

With 15 games left, if we win 5 of them, which seems like a challenge, we’ll end up with only 70 points. Crazy!

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

  5. immortalhab says:

It’s gonna be a long summer. Hopefully the boys do a lot of conditioning.

  6. habs17 says:

Price was the biggest jabroni tonite, was he ever awful

    I SUPPORT (every1 knows who i support)

  7. habitude says:

The good: First line, as it has all year, carried the team. Patches played well, Desharnais worked hard and Cole, well, he’s the MVP of the team as far as I’m concerned.
The bad: Price’s blunder on the fifth goal. Hey, these things happen.
The ugly: One word — Kaberle. Hate to be so negative about this guy but does he ever do the right thing? He never covers anyone, wanders around aimlessly in the offensive zone, pinches at the wrong time and has a shot that wouldn’t scare Miss Daisy. As bad as the Gomez trade has turned out to be for the Habs, at least Scotty gave us a good first year in bleu, blance et rouge and Pyatt was a serviceable player for a bit. Kaberle zoned out the minute he won the Cup last year with the Booins. And we have him for two more years. Ouch.

    • Bill says:

You’re out to lunch if you thought Kaberle was the ugliest Habs player tonight. Good lord. He actually finished in the + column – one of only three Habs to do so – and he played over 21 minutes!

      Full Breezer 4 Life

    • joeybarrie says:

Lots of hate for a guy who played 21 minutes, was the only +1 on our team on D, and had a PP assist. Seems to me he certainly isn’t the problem.

  8. otter649 says:

AS per Dave Stubbs ; The last three years games lost to injuries 236-262-253 and this season 324 games with 16 games to go. When you have 20 million plus in salaries sitting out it is hard to win with AHL players going against NHL players…..

    • DorvalTony says:

Yeah injuries were the reason Price baked another 3 pies tonight. Yeah that’s right. Pour me another.

Halak wouldn’t stand a chance behind this team either. Pour yourself another.

        Don’t let the wultures getcha.

Mike Boone’s last liveblog post sounds a lot like a passive-aggressive former girlfriend of mine…

How about it NHL? No fighting, just hockey?

  11. naweed235 says:

this is great 🙂 I think for once the organization has it all figured out. If we stick to this same course good things will happen: Dress Price for the rest of the games, Campoli + Kaberle + Weber + Diaz as your top 4, Enquist + Geofrion + Gomez as your top line and we SHALL FAIL FOR NAIL!!!

  12. Propwash says:

The Habs need a coach who will get them to play like a team again. Sadly, the way the NHL is set up, it won’t happen anytime soon.
There is no more loyalty left, it’s “get while the getting’s good” in this day and age of hockey.

Want to say the Habs suck? Well 29 other teams suck too.

    Don’t let the wultures getcha.

  13. alwayssunny says:

Carey was really out there playing the puck tonight.

  14. The Jackal says:

I am past disappointment, but it would be nice to win like 5 games haha. Did anyone see with the extra man and net empty, someone throws the puck to the corner that has none of our players and all flames? The hell…. Where has our talent gone? How are we stuck with only 5 skilled players?

  15. Larry says:

Columbus won tonight so last place is starting to look very possible.
Hopefully Price, Subban, Pacioretty maybe, go to the Worlds’ and win gold there. Would help make up for this season of hell somewhat, and give them a taste of winning

  16. Marc10 says:

    There’s more in the tank!

Good try by our one line and our one D man.

  17. SmartDog says:

Wow. We might just be fighting for top pick!

Man, these Habs are really making this a horserace! Which makes me wonder – can horses run backwards?

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

  18. bellcentre hotdog says:

Tonight’s loss sets up a huge ‘4 pointer’ vs the Coilers Thursday.

  19. Dulljerk says:

An excellent game from an elite team. Defence was poetry in motion. Goaltending was of a “thoroughbred” nature, and the work ethic of the forwards was spectacular. I really don’t think we need to make any other moves to win the Stanley Cup next year. Keep this team intact, let them party hard all summer (like they did all winter) and by this time next year we will be leading the league.

“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”

  20. Frank2468 says:

Pacoretty is third star what a tool announcer from Calgery

  21. Ghosts of the Forum says:

    Fail for Nail!!!

hahaha – anyone else see that?

  22. jedimyrmidon says:

Well… on the bright side, looks like the Habs will have a 30 goal scorer this year! And Eller scored again – gotta count for something.

  23. JIMVINNY says:

Thank god they didn’t tie it up. Now if Edmonton wins tonight, habs can be in position for the second overall pick by thursday night.

  24. Mark C says:

That was a close call! Let’s go Edmonton.

  25. habsfan0 says:

    Columbus is getting nervous!
    Habs are closing in!

    Strong game for PK tonight.

  28. Adidess says:

The proper tank etiquette you include Geoffrion, White and Campoli among your six skaters, which RC did.

    Carey is our MVP…….period

  30. Bill says:

I actually despise Campoli. Holy hell. What a useless human being.

    Full Breezer 4 Life

    • habsfan0 says:

Whatever do his total lack of hockey skills have to do with his worth as a human being?

    • showey47 says:

If the jets got a 2nd and a 3rd for oduya i don’t know how pg couldn’t get anything at all for campoli.

    • Frank2468 says:

True Bill I was getting autographs of the players with my daughter and I saw Campoli wearing a Blue Jay cap and poked a little fun at him. He looked at me and said well I’m from Toronto after all with a little bit of attitude. My responses was well so am I and I wouldn’t be caught dead in either a Jays cap or Leafs cap and laughed and walked away, by the way Campoli don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, maybe Burke will sign you after the Cherry ribbing on Saturday

  31. JayK-47 says:

What’s the proper tank etiquette when it comes time to pull your goalie to ‘try’ for the win?

  32. Adidess says:

There a few who still care: The DD line and PK. Yeah, pretty much the same ones.

    Did Pleks just outmuscle somebody?

  33. nolts says:

Jesus Chuck…you mean all five goals count nor just the one price gave them??? Wow that would mean all the players who giveaway the puck would be responsible for the habs sucking. Holy confused now

  34. bellcentre hotdog says:

Price looks like he is still injured.

  35. habsfan0 says:

    Price is getting excited.

Rodeo season is one month away.

  36. HABS_TO_THE_BONE says:

Carey Price is the best puck/stick handling goalie in the NHL. Sure he may misshandle the puck from time to time just like a goal score will shoot wide & miss a open net sometimes!

  37. slapshot777 says:

I think this has to be one of the worst games I’ve seen in awhile for Gorges.

  38. HABS_TO_THE_BONE says:

Why all the Price bashing? He is playing behind a crappy D

    • Propwash says:

      Easiest thing to do.

      Don’t let the wultures getcha.

      • makka83 says:

It’s just a couple of guys. Notice that Price is the only thing they ever talk about here. It’s funny because they think noone notices but they aren’t even Habs fans. Probably some sad fat losers sitting on their computer and giggling like little girls by making fun of Price between watching porn. 😀

    • Frank2468 says:

I’m not Price bashing he is actually the reason they have the wins they have, just having a little fun blowing off steam.

    • English is not a Crime says:

Those who know NOTHING about the sport yet want to bitch about something have to go with what they have. It’s easiest to blame the goalie, like it’s easiest to blame the quarterback or the pitcher etc.

So if you know absolutely nothing about the sport, and want to vent, you blame Price because all the other clueless clowns are doing that so that must be the problem! If only the other guy was in there, ALL would be well.

  39. Habbu says:

Check the Molson Cup standings….if it weren’t for Price this team is behind Columbus.

  40. Rob D says:

Flames pretty much suck there’s that.

Both teams who need to rebuild with youth but at least the Habs have started the process and continue it in the offseason.

  41. habsfan0 says:

If Habs aren’t careful, they might get a point out of this game.

    And Columbus cooperated by winning.

  42. Frank2468 says:

Omg if Price is hurt there goes the season, put Markov in net LOL

  43. Marc10 says:

PK Subban is a puck magnet. I would give him carte blanche to pinch to his heart’s content. Let’s do it.

  44. ThirtyThree says:

The game has gotten more interesting!

HABS should take full advantage of this opportunity of games not mattering. They should try unusual things. See what works. Price has trouble playing the puck? Then he should play it even more, go for long passes. Throw all caution to the wind.

  45. Bill says:

    Comment 666?
    EDIT: dammit.

  46. Bill says:

The sad thing is that Carey’s giveaway goal is now actually meaningful.

    Full Breezer 4 Life

  47. Stev.R says:

Impeded his stick? His stick was there. It knocked the puck into the net…

    • ffenliv says:

I imagine the counter-argument there is that if DD weren’t blocking all stick movement, his stick wouldn’t have been sitting there to deflect the puck into the net.

I’m not saying it was a bad goal, just that there are good arguments on both sides of that play.

  48. Bill says:

    What are they reviewing for?

  49. Frank2468 says:

I think Molson should tell PG the charter flight leaves at 2:00 am and leave at 1:00 am, but knowing PG he would walk around the airport asking people if they have seen Mr. Molson anywhere! lol

  51. Marc10 says:

Pretty average team those Flames. They’ll struggle in years to come as the Oilers come on strong.

  52. alfieturcotte says:

Why do folks feel the need to qualify before they critique Price. Yet another game where he has let in a couple of softies. He is by far not my Molson Cup first star of the year. Give the title to Cole, Deharnais, or Max Pac long before Price.

As long as that tendency continues, he’ll always remain average. Nothing to do with Halak. The Canadiens would be prudent if they sought to at least use one of their better draft picks to select a young goalie, just in case Price never quite lives up to those expectations that he’s already been anointed with………

    • CHicoHab says:

      well said Alfie

“take your time and hurry up”

    • JIMVINNY says:

Why is it that greater hockey minds than ours are pegging him as a the starting goalie for Canada in the next Olympics, yet he is constantly being dismissed by the fans who have the pleasure of seeing him play on a regular basis?

Could it be that they recognize the mediocrity of the team playing in front of him, and realize how good he could be with a skilled lineup?

    • DorvalTony says:

Draft Malcolm Subban. But nothing good will ever happen with Gainey-Gauthier-Cunneyworth at the helm. It’s in Molson’s quart I mean corner now.

  53. Habbu, there was a great post some time ago about the Molson’s owning the team three times and each time they did the team tanked. It’s amazing that these guys can sell beer, but haven’t a clue how to run a three times tried asset that is over 100 years old with reems of hockey history to draw from. It’s not rocket science. It really isn’t folks, yet Gainey is still there pulling everyones petzel and Molson’s Asset isn’t worth the $500 million he payed now… Can they be that idiotic? I have to think no, but my heart says oui mon estsi!

  60. Boomer says:

A lotta blame on Price but come on guys, Lundqvist, Thomas, Rinne… It wouldn’t matter. Any goalie in net for this team would struggle. We need a stronger D corps in front of him. Kaberle, Campoli and weber are liabilities on the ice.

  61. Mondou6 says:

Calgary announcers are saying that the Flames can’t hold any leads this year…lol…

  62. nolts says:

Not too bad ranked 17th on a 28th place team. Not sure how many goalies on shitty teams have been in the vezina running…

Taking a poll. Respond “Nobody:” followed by your response of A or B. Would you rather A: Habs lose games to the point of potentially getting a top 3 draft pick or B: win enough games to finish above the bottom 5 of the league with the corresponding draft choice.

  64. Habbu says:

Molson has to be talking to the replacements…. He has to be.,.right…please tell me it is true…please

    • kholdstare says:

      We can only pray.

Come to think of it they must know who they want and are just wating until seasons end for whatever reason. It has to be out of design, has to be.

    • Frank2468 says:

Habbu I remember the movie Old Yeller, I know it was sad ending but someone should put PG out off his misery and ours.

  65. Adidess says:

Ok, i changed the channel a long time ago to watch the returns of Super Tuesday on CNN. Just flipped back to see Price allow that goal.

I Know Price is frustrated, he’s not allowed to do what he did on that turnover. The D didn’t need his help there and had no business giving that puck away for an empty net goal.

I remember PK got crucified earlier in the season for making a careless through-the-legs pass that ended up in the net. This is even worse. Can the coaching staff not see Carey doesn’t care anymore!?

  66. danhabsfan says:

I Wonder what George Gillette is thinking right now? He appears for all intents and purposes to be a genius. Buy low, sell high. Sad state of affairs, the owner must grow some gonads and make executive type decisions now. There is no sense in waiting, hand over the regins to someone who can begin assessing the value of the team. There is no reason PG should still be there.

  71. JayK-47 says:

That was just Carey making sure the Habs get a good draft pick.
