Liveblog: Canadiens edge Devils for fifth in a row, move back into first

PKNJ

The Canadiens got a third-period goal from Tomas Plekanec, redirecting a point shot by rookie Jarred Tinordi, and then held the for a 2-1 win.

It was their fifth win in a row, matching the team’s season high.

The Canadiens have 19 wins in 28 games. They are 10-2-2 on the road.
New Jersey had 18 shots in the third period, but Carey Price was spectacular.
In winning his 15th game, Price made 32 saves.
The win lifted the Canadiens past Pittsburgh and Boston into first place in the Eastern Conference.
The lofty status won’t last: the Bruins and Penguins play Sunday afternoon.

Tinordi played 14:48, picked up his first NHL point and ended the game plus-2.

Colby Armstrong’s first goal of the season gave the Canadiens an early lead – the 21st time they’ve scored first in 28 games.

But Peter Harrold’s first, on a second-period power play, tied the game.

Very poor from Diaz.. I expected more. Not easy fighting with a concussion from the game in ottawa.. oh wait…

  2. DDO_Habs_Fan says:

Give Diaz some credit…he blocked many take-down attempts. I’ve never seen anyone block so many of GSP’s take-downs before. If he wasn’t so screwed up in the head, he probably could have done much better.

Not sure how much credit I’d give Diaz. He made by little effort to attack, even after losing opening rounds. St pierre strategy was sound. Neutralized him.

  3. Bill says:

St. Pierre dominated that fight. Give Diaz credit for being tough. He took a lot of shots. St. Pierre is an amazing fighter, living legend.

Quote from Lupul: ‘We’re scoring, we’re playing hard, I mean, it’s alright to cheer, to come to the game & cheer’

Typical ACC. Everyone’s on their phones. First time I see a player comment about it, though.

Just got home from the Prudential Center where I was sitting third row in back of the Habs bench. Based on the view at ice level, Price was a beast and Eller and Chucky looked great defensively. Tinordi looked like he belonged. The big boy was plus 2 with an assist and played about 14 min. He kept the game simple and did not look slow. He will make this team next season.

Those Vancouver uniforms are like when you see someone put a sweater on a dog , and the dog looks really embarrassed to have to wear it

  16. YoNiko says:

Another 15-20 before the GSP fight…time for some Jameson

  17. Cape Breton says:

Who is the best coach in the NHL or is it Punch

  18. monmick says:

Anyone else a bit disappointed by Pleks reaction after his goal? Celebrating by himself in the corner with both arms in the air — Look at me, Look at me!

I real team player, and supposed veteran leader to boot, would have gone right over to Tinordi and congratulated him on his first NHL point. Maybe it’s just me…

    ~~~> Mathematically eliminated…
