New Jersey owned the third period, scoring three unanswered goals to win a game the Canadiens had led 3-1.
The loss dropped the Canadiens 12 points out of the final playoff spot.
It just ain’t gonna happen.
Michael Blunden is shown in the pic taking a vicious hit from behind by Elias. Blunden did not return.
MORNING SKATE AUDIO: Louis Leblanc | Randy Cunneyworth | Dainius Zubrus | Peter DeBoer

Subban is young and if we trade him he will come back to haunt us just like Ribeiro and Grabovski . I like Emelin who is improving every game and is definitely amongst the top 5 hitters in the league. Cole is a warrior and Bourque brings needed grit and size. Eller and Pacioretty are future warriors and playing awesome. Moen,Gill ,Kostitsyn, Weber should be traded now to get something in return perhaps another big forward or even better a defenseman with a big powerplay shot. The reason they lost so many games is the poor powerplay performance this year. You don’t make the playoffs with one of the worst pp records in the NHL. I hope the Habs bring up Tinordi and Gallager next year . Markov needs to go he is damaged goods and the Habs could have signed another top player but decided to take a chance on Markov which was another huge mistake. Gomez ,well thats another mistake that cost the Habs a playoff spot. Kaberle at least has been racking up the points and is a smooth smart player who we should keep!
Are you going to dump on Kaberle for an icing? really? Since he got to MTL he’s scoring at a 50 point rate whicjh is better than anyone else on this team. And Jeff Carter???. If you think Gomez’ deal is bad how would you like to take on Carter for 10 years at over 5 million per year. You better rethink that one.
Pacs/DD/Cole
AK/Pleks/Bourque
Moen/ ?/Gionta
White/?/?
Emelin/Georges
Price …but not for 5mil a year
The rest can go …somehow ..management needs to figure this out . Our D is terrible ..sorry PK ..but you just ain’t bringing it man !
Patience guys…if we keep losing we will get our superstar!! If anything we should start hoping that columbus steps it up a bit.
Danny
@Ian Cobb- totally agree on Muller….. And JARVIS! I was looking at that Bruins team photo at the white house and….”Is that…. Doug Jarvis??” ..
frig it! Let’s get as many draft picks as possible. It’s almost impossible to watch this team with Gomez on it…. and this trap.. UGH.
Someone has to recognize that we need far better management, if we are to rise again
Coach, Kirk Muller was the best for setting up a PP. And management let him get away, just like the years that we use to win face offs more often than not with Doug Jarvis coaching that skill for us , but alas! management saw no value in keeping him on. Who is he with now??????
Better management be gets a better team.
It’s funny how no one mentions boucher anymore, yet in Oct. and Nov. he was the big one that got away. Look what he did with Tampa, now Tampa sucks and no one mentions anything. Hindsight is a powerful tool for opinion.
…Tampa has a D from Hell …and the goalies ate the Devil
…if Guy Boucher in Montreal ? …We would not need to tank for Nail
Habitant means PASSIONATE HOCKEY
http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=423049
Not sure why people are upset. What’s so bad about blowing 2-goal leads every game?
If we’re going to tank, we might as well tank in style.
Price is good , but not a game breaker. 3 goals on 8 shots in the 3rd period. I wouldn’t call that good goaltending. if you can’t win a game having to stop 8 shots. the 3 goals must have been on screened shots or just weak goaltending.
Price will not be signing for as much as people were thinking earlier.
I felt sorry for Randy C. at end of the game trying to get the ref’s attention to no avail — he looked so lonely — sort of Charlie Brownish — no respect!
Someone should wait in the parking lot and beat the snot out of Chris Lee!!
Has there ever been a Habs powerplay so disgraceful — if it had some sort of % of success we’d be contention! Park someone’s ass in front of the net.
David Clarkson is one disturbed looking SOB.
David Desharnais is becoming my favourite Hab.
lee probably had a police escort
Next year: Habs head coach: Patrick Roy
Assistant head coach: Mario Tremblay
Defensive coach:Marc Andre Bergeron
Goaltender coach:Andre “Red Light” Racicot
GM:Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson CAN speak French)
What?? No way you’re gonna win with these guys!! Where’s Michel Bergeron? Give him a spot, then you’re set for 10 cups in a row.
EDIT: Ooops, I forgot. Smiley-face or sarcasm mention:
One Bergeron on the coaching staff is quite enough, thank you.
might as well have Mike Milbury for GM with Jean Ferguson Jr as an assistant GM
The best player the Habs have is Price. Where did the Habs get Price?
Hopefully the Habs draft a centre with their high pick.
+1
I support Scott Gomez
Yeah, Price let in bad ones. But he was the only reason on Tuesday that they didn’t blown out by the Sabres. If only the team were in sync, i.e., Price plays well and the players in front of him played well during the same game then they would have won at least 1 of 2 (even though they needed to win both). The way this season has been going, I’m not surprised to see things like this happen.
All it means is that the Habs are going to have a higher pick in the draft, which is what many people want anyways.
just one soft one tonight. cant blame price, the team only has three decent de men and one of thems having a bad year.
three decent defenseman, Subban, Gorges and Weber
Weber? really?
I expected Emelin to be mentioned, but Weber?
Agree!
It seems like everytime Price has a great game, they outscore the other team by 3 or 4 goals. And then when he’s having an average game, the team is just plain bad. (And no, I’m not saying that it’s because the guys are deflated after their goalie let in a bad goal. They just can’t score.)
Let’s not even mention these blown leads.
For the past 2 games it has been the opposite though. Tuesday, Price played well and the forwards scored only 1 goal and the Sabres ran rampant in the Habs’ zone. Tonight, Price lets in 4 on 21 while the team in front scored 3 for a 3-1 lead (i.e. they were producing and pressuring).
That’s true. It’s even more frustrating. When he lets in four, his team scores three. When he lets in two, they score only one. Like you said in your original post, if only they could “sync”, they’d get much better results.
I’m getting tired of PK Subban faking one timers on the power play time after time after time. No one’s falling for it so why doesn’t he shoot it once in awhile?
Richard R
gomez hasnt scored in a year but collects his 8 million. keeps his job. i dont get it send him to the farm now
It’s far worse than just scott gomez.
Why is everyone surprised at the lack of consistency of Chris Lee?
Nothing new!
Why is he not allowed in post season? Guess!

Because he would lose his life for sure if he was allowed to do games in the post season.
Ian,
It’s because the NHL only uses its top rated( kind of a joke in itself) officials in post season!
Strange though in the CBA with the officials states that if you don’t make the post season for 3 consecutive seasons YOU”RE OUT!
Wonder who Lee is related to to survive this long?

The cerebral insight of PJ Stock:

To be honest, there is not many good referees throughout all the leagues, now that they have gone to the two man system.
NHL fired a referee under those guidelines then got taken before the Ontario Labour Board for illegal dismissal since then they don’t enforce the rules.
Consistent for the NHL not enforcing the rules!

I wonder if Canadiens fans are the only ones who can’t stand Lee’s officiating? Maybe we should take a survey around the league?

if a company had a salesman who didnt make one single sale in an entire year what would happen to him ?
He would lose weight and have to live in Trona. But Gomez is one of our best salesmen, he makes 7 million a year, how many do you make.
if only this year’s top pick could’ve been a guy like Toews, Crosby or Stamkos…
Just tell me there isn’t a kid at the draft this year named Wickenheiser.
Not to worry folks, Chris Lee has given us a 1st over all pick for the first time in 30 years.
How this numskull of a referee keeps getting a pay check is just beyond me.
I had a talk with Ron Finn (former great NHL referee) years ago, who was the main recruiter for referees for the NHL when they went to the two man system and when Lee was refereed in the OHL. I told Ron at the time when he was scouting Lee at a Belleville, London game, how Chris Lee was despised by every coach and GM in the OHL. And that Lee really thought that the fans came to see him referee!
He was a joke then and he is a joke now.
But I guess he fits right in with the NHL which is a Joke in itself today.
Say what you will, but Christopher Lee was excellent in the role of Dracula in all the Hammer films.
I never saw those my friend, at least i don’t think so.
Google it.
That Lee was taller!

This team could be legit by next year if they bury Gomez, and trade Kaberle. With a high draft pick in addition to a solid youth core I’m excited for the next 5 years.
Trade Kaberle?
I’d be glad but, still…
Whoever would want Kaberle?
contrary to popular belief (around here), he would still be a great addition to a team looking to make a run.
True. But I wouldn’t expect anything spectacular in return.
neither do I, I`d just be looking to free up cap space.
The Habs did I guess. Just before it happened, I suggested we should try to swap Gomez for Kabs. I would have been okay with that. But they traded Spacek’s expiring contract for Kaberle’s awful one.
Gomez is not nearly the problem -84. It is the lack of experience and execution from the back end.
I don`t disagree with you, however, the bottom line is we could be getting a WHOLE lot more with 7.4 million.
and kaberle and pleks and gionta and we have lots of those players
I support Scott Gomez
hell, had we had a PP humming along at the league average, this year could`ve been a different story; not to mention all the games we`ve lost while leading
We had the wrong coach, Kirk Muller was the best for setting up a PP. And management let him get away, just like the years that we use to win face offs more often than not with Doug Jarvis coaching that skill for us , but alas! management saw no value in keeping him on. Who is he with now??????
Better management be gets a better team my friend.
I’m confused as to why people are saying to tank. They are doing horrible, they have been doing horrible for a long time save a hungover detroit red wings game, and people are saying they should tank, in present term language not past. I don’t agree with it, I’m just confused as to why people are saying it like it’s something they should do.
they mean unload if possible.
Why would any team in their right mind offer anything of value for any of the disposable people on the team? Unload for what? Third round picks, that is a solution?

cheers
oh……….wow
I support Scott Gomez
Yakupov or Grigorenko
What if… Grigorenko AND Galchenyuk?
start loading up the picks.
What a disaster this year has been. God lay dying.
I still think think it will take 2-3 years to turn it around. Kaberle and Gomez are anchors. Gionta is over-priced but possibly tradeable in two years by the deadline possibly the next one. Plekanec could be worth something near the end of his contract too. IMO teams should always try to trade veterans at the end of contracts for picks and prospects if possible.
The Habs IMO need to stop the favouritism and protecting players; Price and Koivu come to mind. What did the Habs get for 11 free agents a few years back? Did they even think about trading Robinson or Lafleur? Same old same old. No. They just trade outspoken players or move people in panic face saving moves.
A tectonic shift in mindset is needed though. I think though the organization might finally have no choice but accept that they are not the team of history that was spoon fed to fans during the hubris induced centennial.
This is a competitive sport. Being middle of the pack is just a hustle. Reality is setting in. I look forward to seeing how this team manages the next few weeks. The trade deadline should be interesting.

See, if you apply Quantum Entanglement to that theory, it may actually work out, just not here…
One end of the spectrum versus the other, the other entity will have a completely different result. We just need one side to be One of the Worst, so the other side can be One of the Best
Just which side are we on?

PJ Stock on L’Antichambre is a disgrace to the Anglophones of Quebec and the Frenchies know it.
“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein
Well Bergeron and Tremblay are pretty much disgraces to the Francophones as well. Bashing on anyone that’s not franco in the CH organization. Embarrassing, if you ask me. This coming from a francophone.
Speaking about L’Antichambre… Are they trying to improve the overall panel IQ by giving a psychologist a regular spot on the show?
Alfred E. Newman would improve the overall IQ of that panel.
Hah, right!
Two softies and a ref with an agenda were the margin of difference in that game. The non-call on the d-man who held Cole on the breakaway was the turning point that tilted the game in the Devil’s favour.
Pretty cool – let’s continue the trend and draft Forsberg.
trade the whole top 6, and draft 3 out of the top 10 this year.
Nope – too many Dmen in this draft, unfortunately.
And keep MaxPac, Eller… They are good young players anyway.
Just over 7 months to training camp. I’m starting to get geared up.
…this is a recording….this is a recording….this is a recording…shit give it up already..you know nobody from the Habs organization come on here and read any of the comments…you know that don’t you…
So who is to blame? Are we still trading Plekanec for Malkin + picks? Price getting his $10M per/yr? What is the next step?
The ONLY solution is to keep Gomez and dump all the players who contribute (Pleks, Desharnais, Kaberle, Pacioretty, Kostitsyn), anyone but Cole. You have to dump Gionta and make Cole Captain. Just think about the return in picks for those guys come trade deadline, it would be PIT all over again I tells ya! Then sign all those truculent, top 6 FAs this offseason, who post 30+ goals every year.
How can this NOT solve all the problems?
I am officially embarrassed. I may have to remove my Hans dice from my car. Some old guy (assuming he was a leafs fan) was pointing at my car as I was parking a few days ago and grumbling something. It may be time to remove those bad boys for the remainder of the season.
You are better than that, leave them right there.
do you have CH flags waiving at your car? You might want to remove them as well if there are any.
If Price doesn’t sieve out on the first goal it’s a different. He has these lapses at the worst possible time.
ya price played awful tonite
I support Scott Gomez
The damn soft goals, that’s what I’m saying. Ridiculously stupidly awesome saves from the guy, but the damn soft goals change a game, A LOT!

I haven’t. And I don’t expect to see it any time soon. But there is a positive to not being a witness to the ‘glory days’ or whatever, I don’t have the sense of entitlement that a lot of the old folks have.
…as a 60 year Fan of the Montreal Canadiens, as I am, I have ‘reason’ to be an addicted Habs Fan …but, it is the Fans like Yourself through circumstance of Your birth whom rationally should have much less sense of ‘entitlement’ than I and My generation and are and remain loyal Habs Fans that I admire most

Freakin’ Price.
Last in the Conference… Yes we can!
Gawd it’s going to suck watching this team tank with a vengeance…
right on kholdstare , a couple of wins and they are all clamoring over each other to get back on..except of course for your regular “haters”..the ones that think they are smarter..cutting edge..controversial…cool…this is one of the worst officiated games I have seen in a long time..horrible..I will be pissed for a while
As far as who to cheer for…the Jets..hands down..then the Leafs..never the Sens..and all those teams are only a couple of loses out of the playoffs..but it will be my Habs until they are done mathematically..
That’s EXACTLY how I feel. The fat lady…she ain’t singing yet! And the REFS won this game, NOT the Devils….

Habs17, let’s be honest, the young people probably won’t either.
A hat trick by Gomez sure would have helped. The cost now for Gomez is one million per assist.
Winning is only part of the picture re the playoffs. For the Habs to make the playoffs this season would have required the total colapse of 8 other teams. This was not going to happen. Our Habs were out of the playoffs in the first month of the season.
PG’s blowing money on Kaberle is a 200% reason to give PG the boot. I think Kaberle is a good player but he could not even turn the PP around let alone the team.I don’t believe any one player could have.
Are the Habs still paying PG? STOP PAYMENT!
As well are we not still paying Carbonneau, Gainey, Perry Pearn, and Jacques Martin?
Pathetic owners and mangement the latter needs to change NOW!
i thought gomez played well tonite
I support Scott Gomez
You’re hilarious.
saying he only played 11 minutes he was a 0 when 10 players on our team were an -1 or worst Gomez had another solid game

I love you guys.
Pollock would have figured out a way to get the first overall draft pick while winning the Stanley Cup, assuming his methods would work today (which, let’s be honest here, they probably would not).
I don’t think Even David Copperfield can make this team dissapear!!!!!!!!
Sweet… a david copperfield reference very topical.
Blimey, who needs David Copperfield…This team can pull the disappearing act all by themselves.
at least he has a topic to discuss for reference.
reference to discuss a topic has he
what do you think? maybe you should read his statement first before typing you idiot! Don’t even contradict your statement by saying “a david copperfield reference very topical” and asking me “reference to discuss a topic has he” douchebag!
Haha settle down, you sounded like yoda, it’s no big deal.
I only understood you calling me an idiot and a douchebag, Im not sure what the rest of your post was doing though. EIther way Im not offended because you are clearly insane.
maybe you could ask him coach our Habs and he could magically make this team win every game.
GRIGORENKO!!!!
i’d be happy with him on the team…..
NJD’s got all right bounces go there way. Habs could not catch a break at all. That Chris Lee needs a lesson or two on how to ref. He let calls go against the Devils that were penalities and made so questionable calls against our Habs. This man sucks at officating and its time for someone to say something about it. This season is over with and what does players and coaches have to lose? A fine or suspension for speaking the truth about how poor a game was called. Elias should have been tossed for his boarding on Mike Blunden. That’s one that stick out the most. Hopes its reviewed by league officals and maybe they might suspend him for a couple games. Habs needs an enforcer for next season. Good night!!!!
Like Cole’s “high stick” on brodeur, what a joke. And that slew foot on Leblanc. Larson got it back tho lol.
If i were cunneyworth or Cole, take the fine and call out the refs mainly Chris Lee. The season is over, who cares. Make a point and make statement
