Couple notes..
Emelin is 4th in the league in hits by a d-man? if so..nice
Diaz is up there is rookie defenseman scoring
Pac on pace for over 30 goals, becoming the top guy. And you see his stats since January!! On par with Mailkin!
Cole.
Physical, hard fought game. It’s great to see a a game like that. We’ve been very good of late. Oh yeah, ease up on AK!!
Just got back and haven’t read any posts. Watched the game at Hurley’s with good friends, knowledgeable Habs fans each and every one.
What I saw was their best game of the season, a solid, physical effort with no letup. The game hinged on two plays; the incredibly outrageous call on the Cole goaltender interference penalty and the surprising Bergeron goal that resulted from it.
Other thoughts:
Marchand, though he will get another suspension for the low bridge on Emelin, then for his attempted low bridge on Subban, should be taught a lesson by someone, anyone, and made to suffer as a result. No penalty or suspension is severe enough. Let your imagination work on that.
I don’t get the whole love for RC at this point, particularly the way he handled Eller again tonight. As my friend pointed out, Eller takes a 4 minute high stickinging call, gets benched for the rest of the game (5:48 TOI) then is handed the final attempt on the SO? This is not good coaching.
Man, we suck at the SO almost as much as we suck on the PP…and we certainly suck on the PP. Pathetic!
There are very few passengers on the Habs bus. There are a few less than satisfactory players but that can be fixed in the coming weeks, months and over the summer.
Despite the shootout loss, this was an awesome game. The Habs dominating the big, bad Gooins physically? PK going deep into the offensive zone for the first time this season, resulting in a short handed goal? Habs overcoming a two goal deficit in the 3rd vs a team that is 25-0-0 when leading by two after two periods? Plek nailing Chara in the kisser with a slapshot?
Now for the negatives:
Gill brainfarting (being Gill) on the first goal.
Gomez on PP and PK, on top of his regular shift?
Bullshit reffing – obsession with protecting Thomas (who routinely plays 3 feet out of his crease).
Campoli pyloned by that dud Pouliot.
Marchand’s clip on Emelin – who wants to bet he won’t be disciplined by SHAMahan?
Price soft again in the shootout, Bourque not a great choice vs. a goalie like Thomas who challenges shooters.
Eller benched after an accidental (and questionable) penalty? Give him ALL of Gomez’s minutes, PLEASE.
A few years ago we were cringing with Brisebois, Souray etc… Feels like were back at square ONE with Campoli and Kaberle, McDonagh etc etc etc. If these pricks trade away Beaulieu and/or Tinordi for anything this deadline, it’ll be a cruel joke of deja-vu again. We havevsome great players etc, just need to get rid of the anomaly and soft D. Enjoyed the comeback lead by the DD line
We complain about the shootout, but in this league it’s the difference between an elite team and a bottom-feeder. If the Habs and Bruins switched shootout rwcords, thats a 10-win swing in the standings. We have the 5th worst shooting percentage and the 6th worst save percentage. Those simply HAVE to improve next season; throwing away those points isnt an option when teams are so evenly matched. Key on 4-5 guys on the team and make it their specialty.
Ironically, a lot of the shootout ills could be mitigated with a more potent powerplay. Get that addressed for next season, pop in some more goals, and you’ll win more games outright and not have to rely on shootouts to get your wins.
And for gods sake, shoot the puck. Hit your spot from 10 feet outand thw goalie doesn’t have time to react. Too much can go wrong if you rely on trying to deke all the time.
Couple things. Price has to DO something in the shootout. He just stood there frozen against Seguin. If a showdown is partly a guessing game then try and out guess the shooter. We all know Carrie’s weaknesses, low stick, five hole, and high glove. I would hazard a guess those are the same for every goalie in the league. So, why can’t we snipe Thomas, who is much smaller than Price is, the same way? Makes no sense. Pull em and put in Budaj for shootouts if nothing else works cuz he can’t handle the SO. As for the rest, well Gill was horrid tonight. I’m a big fan of his, but he really isn’t playing well. Nice screen on the first goal after giving the puck away to start it all. Drop and block the shot, at least, to make up for your huge gaf. Nope, he just stands there screening Price. Eller, AK, and Leblanc couldn’t hold the puck on their stick tonight if it was glued there. So many give aways. Point was nice to get, but where are the emerging heroes we all want to see who can win the big one. Also, good post regarding Eller’s penalty for huigh sticking. Second time I saw it looked worse, but the ref only gets one look and well we all know how fast they were to call a penalty against the red team tonight. Boy, it was nice to see Cunneyworth give it to the ref after the Cole call. Been missing that for a few years. I can’t stand that one guy that was making all those calls, he always has it in for Montreal it seems. Arrogant A-hole.
I can’t understand how people making such inflated salaries have the gall to float around the ice. Can the lot of them and play only those who work hard. And, we will NEVER win anything with Carey Price in nets. Does not compete hard enough every night…can’t stop anyone one on one. Tonight….2 shooters…one hits the post and the other scores. For heaven’s sake Carey battle like so many other truly great goalies. Bergeron could never have scored from there on most other NHL goalies. Come out and cut down the angle and STOP dropping to your knees all the freakin time. And yes..Price lovers…I am picking on your man again. Not everyone has drunk the cool-aid.
I am still fuming over the bush league reffing tonight. AK46 gets an interference call, but PK lays a hit, then Campbell? hits PK when the puck is on the other side of the ice! NO (frankin) call!
Emelin gets hit late by Thornton, ’cause he is a baby from an earlier clean hit (which Shawn could not do against Emelin), no call.
Why the #%@$ aren’t more refs fired for (frank) sake! They are the reason the Habs lost. The Habs played a great game, but were F’d over by the F’n refs!
Loved how right after the hit by Thornton, Emelin says “I got my eyes on you”. What a gem he is.
F’n refs, F’n Bettman, F’n Jeremy Jacobs and F’n Bruins!
I believe the ref in question was fired by the NHL but his union backed him in a lawsuit in Ontario and he was re-instated.
Those two non-calls were b-r-u-t-a-l. If it’s the other way around, there’s no way we get away with it. No way! But we know that’s going to happen. The best recipe against that is to do what PK, Yemmy and White did. Go after the bastards and just keep going.
If we’re going down, we’ll take a couple of them with us.
To be fair, the interference penalty called on Boychuk for what appeared to me to be a perfectly legal check was equally bush league. The calls went both ways.
60.1 High-sticking – A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. Players and goalkeepers must be in control and responsible for their stick. “However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion”. A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly.
Would ellers penalty not be considered accidental contact on a follow through? He fanned on a puck he was trying to shoot in.
Yes, it was accidental. But why did his coach bench him? That’s the more pertinent question. Why didn’t his coach back him up, not by yelling at the refs, but by letting him play?
This team still needs a lot of work…one of the worst pp in the league….one of the worst records at home in the league…bruins 23-0 leading after 2…we fold with leads in the third…we keep losing to teams that played on the road the night before while we were off…ak46 does not show up for big games..it is time to move on with him…no effort no intensity..cannot win with this player in the clutch…while we cannot score in a shot out price save% in the shutout must be one of the worst since the so started..
Great post, especially about AK…we really need to cut this guy loose, yes he has flashes of talent, but that’s all they are, flashes. We need players who bring it every night, not once every two weeks!
Great game tonight, our boys played well….great intensity…
To all those who said “The Bruins will crush the Habs tonight”…..Well it wasn’t that bad. We got a point in a game you said the team didn’t have a chance in. The B’s certainly didn’t dominate.
But he’s been benched after a penalty resulting from an accident. He fanned on a shoot, big effin deal !!!! And then, he’s relied on to win the shootout. Now that’s dumber than his infamous penalty. Cole should have been the 3rd shooter.
But above all, accountability or not, the Eller benching tonight is just straight up dumb.

Yeah, Eller did not look happy at all. Doesn’t seem like a good idea to bench a guy for about 2 periods (even though his penalty was not a good one) then send him out to win the game.
While each loss and OT loss further diminishes the Canadiens’ already dim playoff hopes, I’m of the opinion that if there’s any season where they “shouldn’t” make it then it should be this season as there is opportunity to trade away some players that should be traded and things have been going wrong consistently (many things that are not exactly in the players’ hands), meaning that now is a good time to get a good draft pick.
It’s up to the coach to turn the keys over to Cole and the kids. It’s their team now. Passengers can stand aside and by all means… let’s ship the guys that are not going to be there.
I don’t mind losing if the effort is there. It’s about next year from here on in.
Habs management hopefully gets some guts and a vision long term. And the future isn’t that far off with some relative patience, not next year, but in 2013-14 with a fresher defensive core with the likes of Tinordi, Beaulieu and Ellis in the mix. Gallagher and Bournival in a year or two with a top-end talent in the top 5 drafted this year would be good blocks to add. Let’s see what unfolds next week and in June.
A great game except for a few weak spots.
Coupla thoughts…:
- PATCHES: His one-timer is a thing of beauty to us and a death ray to our enemies… zap!!
- COLE: Nice goal, such calm. Most others woulda lost it in the pads.
- GILL: Hey Gill, NEWSFLASH! – you make a better door than a window! That goal was ALL on Gill from give-away to screen. You think he’d know better.
- BOURQUE: Was he playing tonight? Next time someone should let him know.
- PLEKS: I can’t see Pleks picking it up with Darche (who admitedly is playing well but isn’t a top 6 forward) and Bourque (zzzzzz) on his line.
- SUBY – Great game. The old suby-doo is BLACK! I mean BACK!
- WHITE – What a guy. Great to have him black too!
- EMELIN – Great hits. Next time Marchand turtles on a check, just drive your knees into his face.
AND FINALLY….
- How about some SHOOT-OUT PRACTICE!!! We’d be in the playoff hunt if our guys could freakin’ score. There’s NO-ONE to count on. No-one. It’s ridiculous.
————————————-
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Does nobody on this team understand the correlation between speed and scoring with penalty shots??!?!?!?!
Every one, EVERY ONE knew Eller was gonna miss that shot before he even crossed the blue line….. What happened to the good old days when Koivu and Kovalev would just race down the ice at 50 clicks, pull one move and score?? Unless your name is Datsyuk you need to skate faster than a friggin sloth.
KOIVU and AK27 spoiled us with how a shoot-out attempt must be taken i.e. fast, fluid stick handling with a threat of shot or deek.
I’m not sure we have anyone on this lineup that can do the same.
Where the shoot-out gave us another 5/6 points in the past we’re that much short this year. I suppose that’s the reality of a .500 club (no wiggle room for error).
You guys got to kidding me complaining about the coach the team played awsome and with grit the only decision I don’t agree with is bourque but his shootout stats are good. The officiating sucked and Montreal played one hell of an entertaining game
Yes I don’t understand how Cole is not out there instead of Eller. Well CC if you want any chance of keeping this job you better smarten up. Also where the hell was Schultz. How the hell do you play Gomez against the Bruins. I say if Schultz played tonight they would have won. They played the Bruins tough would have been nice to have that big extra tough forward. What does CC do plays Gomez. I sure the Bruins were looking over their shoulders with him on the ice.
My first post on this site, I had to make an account just to reply to this infuriating post.
You’re dead on about Cole not being in the shootout, but beyond that you make yourself look like a fool.
What game were you watching? The Habs were the more physical team the entire game, laying some great hits on Boston.
As for Gomez, his line had energy on every shift, and while his skills have absolutely deteriorated, it is what it is. He is here, and he will play, GET OVER IT . But to suggest that what the Canadiens lacked in this game was toughness? .. Geeze..
can we fire cunneyworth now, serisosley he puts kaberle out for pretty much the whole overtime and then the shootout what was he thinking. eller get out there u havent playing in 3 hours but get out there
I just found it refreshing to see two guys make a physical impact… and it had a flow on effect to the rest of the team. Suddenly the Bruins needed to earn it… and a few of them will be sore tonight. It’s small comfort, but I’ll take it.
I honestly couldn’t care less about the result…that was, at least in my opinion, the most entertaining hockey game I’ve watched all year. Great game by both teams.
The NHL really should just fold the other 28 teams and just let people watch Boston-Montreal games all year long.
Even in the blowouts, SOMETHING is going to happen. What more could people want tonight…some nice goals (what a great shot by Bergeron, and that SH goal by the Habs was beautiful), some fantastic hitting, some great defensive play yet still some glorious scoring chances.
If Montreal competes like that more consistently next season, they’ll be in good shape.
Proud of the boys coming back down 3-1 after 2 against the B’s. As much as I hate the B’s, I give them credit that they are 1 of the best at holding a lead.

I enjoyed the heck out of it. If others didn’t, whatever.
I don’t really care about the result because I’ve been comfortable with the idea of the Habs not making the playoffs for a couple of months. I don’t believe in tanking, so watching the youngsters develop has been fun.
The bad guys–filthy in this game at times–win in a shootout. Tea Partier Tim Thomas escapes the Karma he so richly deserves–and which will eventually get him. But full credit to our guys. They were the better team tonight. And that third period comeback was tremendous. It gave us fans a lift and no doubt will serve as a morale booster for the team.
On any given night, our Canadiens are fully capable of beating the best teams in the league. Consistency is their problem, and to solve that they need to acquire a couple more players with talent and toughness and to get rid of a couple of weak links.
Nice to play the accountability card with Eller, even though the 4-minute high stick was clearly an accident, but then to run him out cold for a do-or-die turn in the shootout? Does Cunneyworth want to win or is he just trying to draw attention to himself?
Good for the boys to fight back with the 2 goals in the 3rd to get to OT. Lost another skills competition tho. A lot of positives, I’m frustrated but OK. Max had TT beat clean but couldn’t lift the puck.

I am going to enjoy the rest of this season. This team is transformed. Not since I-don’t-know-when have the Habs owned the Big Bad Bruins physically the way they did tonight. A total character comeback for a point, slightly besmirched by a fail in the skills competition.
Bourque scored last shootout. Last thing the coach should be doing is “rewarding” players an opportunity in the shootout. The decisions should be completely objective. Pick the players who have the best chance of scoring, period. Like Julien, a list should already be in place before the game, what goes on during a game should be almost completely irrelevant (to a certain extent).
Mr Stats Canada RC(aka JM) does it again..
Plecs would have been a better choice and even DD or Cole..
i love Eller but he hasnt played a much in the third or OT..
Eller is 1 for 2 in shootout attempts this year and 1 for 1 for penalty shots. He by far has the best record on the team percentage wise. Carey has said he is the toughest guy to stop on those in practice. He was the right guy to be out there for sure. Not sure about the other decisions tho.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
Eller has sick moves.. we have seen that on his last goal..
1 goal out of 2.. that is more or less why he was in the shootout..
I didnt see much of Eller tonight..
i consider Eller a steaky guy..
Cole is a good choice cause in big games he comes through for us.. good or bad stats.. how he undressed Thomas was more then enough reason to use Cole..
Plecs.. experience.. plus he has been playing well for us.. and he is pretty consistant..
Eller rusty from lack of ice time..
(for RC not using 4th.. then combime the 3rd and 4th line)
Eller and AK do know each other and had some Chem.. put White or LL)
Interesting selections for the shootout yet again. RC seems almost phobic about picking guys who haven’t shown much in the game. For me, DD, Cole, and Pleks or PK. Max just doesn’t have the hands for the shootout.
The Habs can still take from this game that they played great and came back from down two into the third period.
In a shoot out it is luck of the draw anyway. Has nothing to do with how the game was played. The Habs still managed to get a point. Has long has the Habs get points every game then we have a chance.

Not a chance Chris, seriously the goalie interference call against Cole was bush league!
The calls did not even themselves out.
BTW using the term ‘to be fair’ anytime the Bruins play is a joke.
Price 23 shot out chances and 11 goals given up…in hockey that is just a horrific %
Our shooting percentage is worse. Its not all on the goaltenders.
Eliminate the shootout. Do away with the shootout. Abolish the shootout. A rotten way to win, or lose.

No-one. It’s ridiculous.

love the emelin comment. agree 100%. nice knee to the face will smarten the rat right out

Or if Price wasn’t beaten as easy a a minor midget tender on basically every one on one!

I am so tired of losing in a shootout, goddammit.
– HABS INSIDE/OUT R.I.P. –
From tonight’s lineup get rid of;
Gomez, Kaberle, Campoli, Gill and AK
Send them to Columbus for Rick Nash.
Richard R
Still not sold on AK, but the rest – Buh Bye!
You guys got to kidding me complaining about the coach the team played awsome and with grit the only decision I don’t agree with is bourque but his shootout stats are good. The officiating sucked and Montreal played one hell of an entertaining game
I do not understand the Bourque in shootout call. Bourque has hands of stone.
great shot as evidence on his sh goal on fluery last week
Tais toi Alfie. That was not our problem tonight. Gill ay yoy. Campoli ay ay yoy. Kaberle no words for him. That was our problem.
Leafs will lose in OT i gurantee it it wont do us any good
I support Scott Gomez
lol y did this post twice
I support Scott Gomez
But to suggest that what the Canadiens lacked in this game was toughness? .. Geeze..
Have to give em credit for fighting back from a 2 goal deficit.
Hope Marchand gets suspended.
can we fire cunneyworth now, serisosley he puts kaberle out for pretty much the whole overtime and then the shootout what was he thinking. eller get out there u havent playing in 3 hours but get out there
I support Scott Gomez
as opposed to who??? Gill, Campoli? Id rather Kaberle, at least he creates offence
PK, Yemlen, gorges, theres actually quite a few other then craperble
I support Scott Gomez
Give me another two Yemmy’s on D and two Whites up front. I love those guys. Very impressive effort by two warriors.
Don Cherry, is that you?

Ha! Ha!
Agreed.

It was a good game, not a great one … also I care about the result.
Full Breezer 4 Life
I enjoyed the heck out of it. If others didn’t, whatever.
I don’t really care about the result because I’ve been comfortable with the idea of the Habs not making the playoffs for a couple of months. I don’t believe in tanking, so watching the youngsters develop has been fun.
3 g in the first 3 minutes
Let’s go Oil!
oi, I got excited and thought it was 3 – 0 Oil, then I looked at the score…
The bad guys–filthy in this game at times–win in a shootout. Tea Partier Tim Thomas escapes the Karma he so richly deserves–and which will eventually get him. But full credit to our guys. They were the better team tonight. And that third period comeback was tremendous. It gave us fans a lift and no doubt will serve as a morale booster for the team.
On any given night, our Canadiens are fully capable of beating the best teams in the league. Consistency is their problem, and to solve that they need to acquire a couple more players with talent and toughness and to get rid of a couple of weak links.
Guys on L’Antichambre have got it right. When in shootout always go with DD, Cole and Maxpac. Three top scorers.
Yeah Make sense to me. No question.

Nice to play the accountability card with Eller, even though the 4-minute high stick was clearly an accident, but then to run him out cold for a do-or-die turn in the shootout? Does Cunneyworth want to win or is he just trying to draw attention to himself?
Helluva game. Bruins were in shock with our team’s new toughness.
Priceblamers, take a valium, wash it down with tequila and have a good night.
Heh heh.
Nice.

Good for the boys to fight back with the 2 goals in the 3rd to get to OT. Lost another skills competition tho. A lot of positives, I’m frustrated but OK. Max had TT beat clean but couldn’t lift the puck.

yep time to sell at tradedeadline picking up 1 point will not do us any good

4-1-1 in the last 6. Calculate that over the next 24 games and it’s 36 more points giving them 92. Kinda close.

I am going to enjoy the rest of this season. This team is transformed. Not since I-don’t-know-when have the Habs owned the Big Bad Bruins physically the way they did tonight. A total character comeback for a point, slightly besmirched by a fail in the skills competition.
Bring it on!
Hoping for a leaf loss
they are up 2-1

with 14 mins to play in the first period….. Lots of time
I take some solace in the fact that the Bruins in no way dominated the Habs physically; unlike many a game over the past few years
Cole best player on the ice, and he puts Borque out .!!!
awesome point, at least it wasn’t Gomez
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Damn! We needed that point
Why is Eller in the dog house, shades of Martin
Mr Stats Canada RC(aka JM) does it again..
Plecs would have been a better choice and even DD or Cole..
i love Eller but he hasnt played a much in the third or OT..
Bonehead!
“Emelin’s the real deal.”

“Emelin’s the real deal.”

Interesting selections for the shootout yet again. RC seems almost phobic about picking guys who haven’t shown much in the game. For me, DD, Cole, and Pleks or PK. Max just doesn’t have the hands for the shootout.
max made a great move on thomas, all he had to do was get the puck off the ice.
Exactly. No hands.
Exactly but he scores all his goals because he’s a shooter and goes to the dirty areas.

Well I predicted the right score…wrong result…should have known better..ever the optimist…sigh…
Can’t blame Price, we didn’t score any goals, what a surprise. Although, Stick side is real weak, everyone knows
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
The Habs can still take from this game that they played great and came back from down two into the third period.
In a shoot out it is luck of the draw anyway. Has nothing to do with how the game was played. The Habs still managed to get a point. Has long has the Habs get points every game then we have a chance.
poor price – can anyone on the habs score in the SO??
Poor Price? He looked frozen on Seguin’s goal.
“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”
he was, because Seguin made a great move – end of story.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the Habs have the worst shootout scoring % in the league.
It would surprise me if they didn’t.
Well, at least that scumbag Marchand will get suspended again.
doubt it – no injury
When are we gonna learn we suck in the shootout, so why don’t we go for the kill shot and go for it in overtime what a joke
I support Scott Gomez
Sad way to end a great game. Of course I’d probably feel a little differently had we won in the shootout.
And there’s the season. Good effort though.
The difference is our guys can’t finish… and the refs…
But very good effort.
This team will never win with Price !!!
U need to just not post anything. What a stupid post
Send him to Hamilton.
True, unless they get some solid defense, minus Campoli, Kaberle,
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Price never even moved on that shot by Seguin.
“Is the little dog going to yap, or is he going to bite?”
Eller looked so down before he started the shootout, why was he benched? i showed up half way through the 2nd. Did something happen?
He fanned on a shot in the first and the “high-stick” was his follow-through.
he took another dumb penalty – 4min. minor for high sticking. He gets way too many “stick work” penalty’s – love the kid though. He will be great.
Shame we couldn’t win this in regulation, because we had them on the ropes.
Ah well, a point, a valid one.
