The Canadiens head into All-Star weekend on a high with a resounding 7-2 win over the number one team in the league.
Max Paciorety made franchise history by scoring the 11,400th home-ice goal … to make it 5-0 in the second period.
This game illustrated why no sane person bets on sports.
The parade will follow its usual route: from the Bell Centre to the Douglas Hospital

I predicted a win but, no, I didn’t expect a blow out. Nice though.
Great game!
The benching of Subban I think it was a good choice.
Fiew reasons:
Only game of the NHL and broadcasted on national TV I bet he didn’t want to be on the bench.
The team was having fun, running up the score, I think he wanted to get in on the scoring?
So I hope he learns..if he doesn’t, dunno how he will…
Cole and Price talked about PK after the game also, they said something like you godda be acountable for what you do, and you have to be on the same page.
Also, I am not a PK hater, he is one of my favorite Habs as he is all yours, but alot of us are slowly getting frustrated?
Carey Eller Pach Diaz Emilen are all young players and see what they are doing.
I am starting to like Eller more and more every day, going up against the top line every game and still forchecking.
Cole, well… what has not been said about him, personally I think it’s the best signing in the NHL in the summer, like how much he’s making and what he’s doing.
Also I always thought and still think we should sign moen and AK cuz if we trade them for pics who knows if those pics will be another AK and Moen.
AK plays good with Eller also.
Some good stuff to go forward with, AK Eller, DD Pach Cole, Plec Borque, add in the rest…
Playoffs is still a long long long shot but not imposible.
Go Habs Go!
wheres markov and what is his situtation keep up the molsons boycott

Was it somehow noted in the Bell Centre that Chris Chelios is 50 today? He played for both teams, btw.
Sad if nobody cared about Montreal’s 2-d draft pick / 1981.

This is Choibolsan.
No problem with the benching by the way. He needs to think before he acts. He was back on the ice on the third, so fine by me.
I would have put him back earlier if I was Cunny just so I don’t the current frenzy around him right now, but that’s just me.
Who said PK was black? I don’t see people in terms of color.
You know, just saw the replay again. What Subban did is a penalty, no question. But I have seen things much worse happen behind the play with no call. A commentator mentioned a severe elbow, not sure about that.
It’s not like the player is thinking ‘let me get a penalty’, he’s probably thinking ‘hey get the f off me’ with that arm/elbow gesture and ended up getting a potentially costly, yeah selfish penalty.
Onus is on PK to be more careful now that he is a marked man.
But if this was Cole getting the penalty, most people would be talking about what a weak call that was.
But if Cole were doing this and getting called for it all the time, we would be.
I agree with Just Me that it’s not a black/white thing. It’s a carefree/serious thing that has the press, ex-coaches on L’antichambre, and a few Hab fans pissed.
Subban simply doesn’t take life or the game as seriously as he is expected to. Unfortunately for his detractors he has too much talent to be worried about what they think. He’s more Ovi than Fergy. Get used to it.
Taberwitt
Well, life is not serious, and hockey less so, so good for him. RC needs to lighten up. I really don’t mind if PK throws an elbow. You KNOW he takes all kinds of s**t on the ice. The Red Wings oughta know about elbows … isn’t Gordie Howe everyone’s hero?
Full Breezer 4 Life
When they mentioned Patrick Roy’s comments about Tanking™ on l’Antichambre Michel Bergeron asked, “how does a team tank?”
I surprised that nobody suggested hiring him as a coach.
It the interest of accuracy, PK was benched for talking a selfish retaliation penalty, negating a PP in a close game (at the time). He deserved it, and I really think he will learn from it because he will NEVER forget that game.
I am not a fan of coddling players. He’s a talent. He needs to be reined in though. He’s young. He’ll learn and be better for it.
In the interest of accuracy, player coddling is banned in seven states.
I stand corrected.
Congrats team, great to have Cole Eller Patches & a few others.Good idea to sit PK he took a stupid penality this is the way he is going to be taught to play the way he should. Glad for Randy well Habs have a rest but I would like to see you play like that when you come back.
did anyone hear Gord Miller and his side kick laughing when Carey lost his shutout bid.
you can watch the video on NHL, they were talking about his performance and saying that Carey Price can’t hear them so they can say shut-out and it doesn’t matter. Detroit literally scored seconds later. I thought it was kind of funny too.

It might be the only part of l’Antichambre worth watching. Because if you ask me, Bergeron et compagnie (mais bon, surtout Bergeron… et Mario Tremblay) are real rabats-joie, win or lose. Hearing them, I just feel like listening to a bunch of mononc’s complaining in my living room.
If G-Man picks the Giants my money is on the Pats.
EDIT: This post was in response to a thread that was deleted mid comment.
I expect the worst, but I hope for the best.
Word of advice. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
That’s the attitude I take when I log on to HIO.
DD just put his foot in his mouth. He said the Habs beat the good teams like Detroit, Boston, Rangers, but lose against teams that are beneath them. I hope he means in the standings and he just hasn’t been looking at them.
I take that back. RDS is not rabat-joie ce soir. Looks good on them.

.
When you’re succinct, JB. You’re succinct.
Like I’ve always said, once you’ve made your point, move on, no sense hanging around to dress it up with some high falutin’ fancy talk.
Damn. I missed the game of the year.
Emelin is a keeper. He was paired with Kaberle for most of the game. They were on for 4 of the 6 Canadiens goals. However they were also on for the 2 Red Wings goals. During the last half of the 3rd Cunneyworth Kaberle was used sparingly. Emelin was on for the Habs 7th goal finishing +3.
I always disliked using 7 defence men but I like how Cunneyworth and his coaching staff are rotating the defensive pairings and also balancing the lines. Habs are still a 3 line team albeit strong on the wings with numerous power forward types; Cole, Pacioretty, Bourque, Kostitsyn, even Moen and Blunden to a certain degree, at least they offer size.
I am still a fan of rolling 4 lines (12 forwards) and having 6 defence men.
Very glad to see Emelin put one in at long last. He is getting better and better and he’s the only Habs Dman we can count on for physicality game-in game-out. Don’t know what his contract status is, but 3 more years seems like a reasonable start.
Subban didn’t deserve to be benched the whole period. Was it a bad penalty? It sure was, but he’s not the only player who takes bad penalties, it happens to everyone.
The media is really trying to get rid of him just like they did with Ribeiro.
Ignoring the media (which is terrible in general, and even more terrible when it comes to Montreal), tonight was the perfect night to bench Subban. With a big lead, Subban really needs to feel some consequences for these absolutely bonehead plays. I’m very glad he didn’t play in the 2nd period.
Re: Subban
Let’s face it, there is a anti-black sentiment as to how the media is handling PK. The coaching he is getting is excellent. He is a young player that is going through some challenges. Would they be as critical if he was white? He will be a star one day if the media doesn’t crush him. There will be a lot more black players coming…so get used to it TSN.
I totally but totally disagree with the racist crap. Just stop looking for victims for pete`s sake. P.K. is taking stupid penalties and is having all kind of problems with his decision making, When your teammates say that he deserved to be benched tonight you can`t really debate on that. So stop with the black and white bs please cause it has nothing to do with the situation. Man those comments piss me off…
Ok, Lets drop the black and white. I’m sorry, but it just seems to keep rearing it’s ugly head (imho). Lets see how the season plays out. Thanks for your comments.
Sorry for the blown fuse here but can`t stand the usual racist defense when someone is criticizing someone that deserves it ..
P.K. will have a long carreer in the NHL but right now he has a problem…he is 22. He will learn and get mature as we all do.
Lets not bring race into it. I am a huge PK fan. I think the benching was deserved ( though maybe not for as long). I think he gets unfairly singled out but maybe that is because they expect so much out of him.
I know that others like Pleks, and Gomer can *&^% up and they dont face the same benchings. Even under Jaques( Pk was the reason I was not successful ) Martin.
RDS is using him as a lightning rod and have been on him for a very long time. There was no shouting match that I saw ( in Pitt only him questioning the coach. And for that the coach should do what he deems necessary to have him tow the line. Agree with above rein him in…….
anybody else notice the “OLE” in Cole??? WOOO … Mind Blown!
I am no fan of Gomer or his contract. But the fact is that he is our best skater to carry the puck end to end and because of that, regardless of how many points he gets, we play better and win more games when he plays.
*Listen to my instrumental tribute entitled “Habs at War” at http://web.me.com/ptolias/Music/OtherOriginalMusic.html
I wonder, did the team win because Moen, a notorious troublemaker and cancer on the bench, didn’t play? Was it because Kaberle finally asserted himself in the dressing room and provided the Habs the kind of robust, vocal leadership they’ve been lacking for much of the season? Or was that exchange between Subban and Ladoceur the last game and in practice a scripted motivational exercise to make the other players think twice about losing focus at any time? Or am I spreading rumours to see how many show up in tomorrow’s papers, blogs and twitters?
You’re way off!
Obviously, the only reason we won was that Engqvist kid. A real stud, there.
I just checked the game tape. You are soooo spot on!
And lo! One month after a certain birthday and on a famous Scottish poet’s Day, a veritable miracle on the ice of the Bell Centre. Bow your heads. Give me an amen!
Talk about being on vacation before it was vacation time. Habs can smile and take those 2 points to the bank.
I’ve always enjoyed his “Address to a Habbis” although many consider it offal.
Pun-ishing me on a night like this? Sacrilege!
The L’Antichambre guys keep teasing about a coming segment about PK Subban. They wouldn’t start with it though. They want eyeballs!
There’s a basketball expression that is appropriate to describe tonight’s game: “garbage time”.
The Habs played well against a team that obviously wasn’t very interested in doing anything except planning their mid-season vacations. The one good thing about being so far out of the playoffs is that no one expects you to do anything. and when nothing is expected of you there’s no pressure. The Habs excel in “garbage time”. They are the undisputed kings of Day-Late-Dollar-Short-Land.
In other words, please do not delude yourselves into thinking that tonight’s result means anything or is a harbinger of things to come. It doesn’t and it isn’t. The Red Wings are still an elite team and the Habs are still mediocre.
I’m still hoping for a lottery pick.
I believe the undisputed kings of Day-Late-Dollar-Short-Land are the Leafs. Year in, year out, once they’re mathematically eliminated they pour it on lol
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the win tonight.

Was it to be expected ? Don`t know. Detroit is such a well oiled machine and we should be afraid very afraid..But admit it or not the Habs can match up with the best teams. The problem is with all the other ones…
Actually did feel real familiar in the first half of the game. Being a montrealer i did recognize a few orange cones on the ice. Man their defense was atrocious! Furthermore the Habs gave a special treatment as it should be to number 13 the great Daytsuk.
The Habs came out flying , dominators on many aspects ,first on the puck, speed, constant second effort by all and unrelentless hunger. Should actually be this way every game.
Bourque did open the dance on a nice Gomez effort then the rest was the contribution of a dozen different players on the score sheet. That`s the recipe.
Man that feels good !
Cole has to be the best free agent signing in this franchise for a long time. Its incredible this guy never takes a night off and gives 100% even in a 6-0 game. Definitely earning his paycheck, he’s almost a point per game player even with his slow start to the season.
Love this guy.
By all means, Cole deserved the 2-d star of the game.

Two days ago I argued that Eller may be our future first line forward. A lot of people said he’s a 3rd line guy. Well like I said he’s young – 22 – and if he keeps getting better, he’ll prove me right. Like shutting down Pavel Datsyuk. Like fighting through several Red Wings to rack up some points…. that sort of thing. Eller has had an awesome January… if he keeps this up, he’ll show you all. Great game. Great win.

Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!
Two days ago is a bit late to come around to seeing that.
Eller with is speed and size and playing D like pleck gone a be #2 easy
Dog, he played a very good game tonight and yes he is getting better with each game. Jury’s still out but you very well may be right in your projection.
Core player on this team. He’s looked great since about the last 25 games or so of LAST season. He missed training camp this year, and was instantly the best player on the team his first couple games back.
That’s right, a lot people seemed to forget Eller started the season injured… I love the kid. #2 centre at least!

always on time… but a year late?
he gets better every game, you can see his confidence grow every shift !!!
I totally called that dominant win… yeah… I swear.

haha i called a 17-0 win with dd scoring 5, after he scored his second i was like oh man i can see the future.
Not his fault some idiot in NY set his salary sooo high…it is PG’s fault he thought it was a good buy…check the game replays… He’s been playing well and setting up a lot of plays lately…. Probably also embarrassed he’s getting paid so much…
As long as he gets bought out or buried in the minors it’s no big deal.
Embarrassed?! Uh, I’m not worried about the guy’s FEELINGS. He’s got 7.35 million reasons a year not to give a **** … which is probably why he doesn’t seem to give a ****. Send him to Hamilton: he gets his money, and the Habs get to spend it on somebody good. Win/Win situation right there!

LOL.
why are you guys taking this so personally? Do you really think anyone is saying that G-Love is the most dominant player on the team? Or that his performance somehow overshadowed the stellar work of the rest of the players? C’mon, why so serious?
The Gomez situation is what it is. So is this season.
I’m gonna enjoy what’s left of the ride and let the chips fall where they may.
I so badly wanted the Habs to blow that lead so that Molson could have Ghost and Cunny and Ladou*bag escorted out of the rink in a paddywagon. Humiliating your best talent when your game is being broadcast to millions as the only one on the tube tonight, such a high profile game, is inexcusable. What century are these guys in? Those days are gone, and you can be sure PK will be the moment he can walk. What a bunch of jerks.
Loving the Habs since 1965
relax
he will be better for it. I was thinking a healthy scratch before the game.
You do not reward bad behaviour, plain and simple.
Have no problem with the benching when the team is up 4-0. Not even close to when Randy made he and Eller a healthy scratch against Winnepeg. Best time to do it. He did make a turnover and take a stupid penalty in the first and these are the 2 things they are trying to stop him from doing. This will not affect PK’s development. The kid is learning but I don’t think he’s a sulking child whose’s going to take his ball and go home.

Just Make the Playoff ………. anything can happen.
Wasn’t San Jose 10 point out of playoff last year at AllStar break and then Finished 2nd.
You Gotta believe…. Its all we have
You don’t get games like that against Detroit to often. That was great. And though it still early after 5 games each Cammalleri 1 Goal minus 4 and Bourque 2 goals 1 assist and plus 1. He isn’t perfect but he goes to the net and gives more than Cami.
I believe Gord Miller said the Sharks were 12 pts. out of a playoff spot going into the All Star break last year.
Six days to the next Habs game. What’s the over/under on posts about Subban until then? 1,000? And on Friday?
I don’t plan to. I’ll be working on my line combinations for the All-Star game as soon as the teams are picked.
Six days before another Habs game?
Uh oh, just three days without a game and we already covered PK vs Ladouceur, politics, morals… What’s next?
Let’s keep rooting for the team that has to climb what amounts to Mt. Everest!

If anyone’s watching the NBC Sports post-game…
It’s amazing, we beat the league-leading team 7-2, and it’s like all they can talk about are negatives about the Habs. Focusing on Subban (can we leave him alone already? sheesh), “Detroit was not Detroit”, Gomez had a terrible game after his assist (I actually disagree), etc.
WTF?
With Milbury and Mcguire!
No way.
Would watch the punjabi broadcast(on CBC) ahead of those two idiots.
BTW I don’t speak Punjabi but it would be better to not understand anything than listen to two moronic talking heads.

What does the Commissioner of the NHL do?
In short, a league commissioner is the action man for the Board of Governors.
They tell him what they want done and he works to make it happen through his subordinates while making sure that individual franchises play by the rules.
******** Translated if you haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 40 years your NHL team is becoming irrelevant in a sports mad city long behind MLB, NFL and NBA teams, you just tell the commissioner(who you gave a new contract at 7 plus million per) to make it happen and the rules are bent sufficiently to action the command.
Agreed. Those two are tops in any sport.

Am I the only one who thinks it may be nice to see PK try playing as a forward, where he can make use of those moves without worrying about losing the puck next to Price?
Probably not the only one, but don’t count me in.
He is a defenceman.
I agree 100%, and think he is a great one at that. I’m just curious more than anything as to what he could do.
In an all-star game it might be nice!
But seriously, it could slow down forward progress on refining his D game. Go to his head.
Yeah but these are just growing pains. He’s 22.
Eric Cole is the antithesis of Alex Kovalev.
He’s the Antilev.
Or cammalleri.
The antilleri
The Antilevalleri.
He’s also the AntiGio.
That doesn’t work for me.
On the NBC postgame Pierre MacGuire interviewed Cole and asked him about the PK benching. Cole agreed with it, referred to PK’s play as “selfish” and called it good coaching. Very interesting and honest.
Yeah I think PK needs to sit for a game.

love it too! No disrespect to Gionta, but he would have rhymed off some of the standard cliche responses. Cole is a leader on this team, no doubt about it.
What`s wrong with having a player think ,any player ? P.K. is a tad beside his game and he needs to take his time and to be forced to think things over. To all those who blame RC , you`ll be the first ones to yell because the Habs don`t make efforts to develop the youngsters. Damn if you do….
Gomez has played great since his return, if you can’t see that your hate has blinded you – aside from that 7.4 mil contract he’s been good since his return.

How about a good play and a PASS on the first goal…
Exactly. Might make one or two passes a game. This has nothing at all to do with Salary and everything to do with him supposedly being a first line center.
Move him for a bag of pucks already and lets give some young players with some potentila some valuable playing time.
Compare Cole or Eller vs Gomez and on most nights its no contest.
As nice as it would be to see the Habs scrape into the playoffs long term it does not serve the purposes of the team. They should be sellers and the deadline and hope for a draft pick.
They should be keeping the Gorges, Eller, PK, Price, Dd, Cole, Emelin, Diaz and build around them
Very true. He has been playing good, a lot better than what people would say. Booing him isn’t relevant to me. In the team’s losses, he hasn’t been any worse than most players who wear the CH. His contract his terrible, that’s for sure, but there’s nothing we can do about it, so why not just get over it and stop bashing on Gomez for that reason.
And lol at your Markov reference!
Lost me at “aside from that 7.4 mil contract”.

This team is an enigma. Totally inconsistent. The league’s, best PK and worst PP. How can they possibly blow out the best team in the league? I am staring to believe that most of the Habs problems are between their ears. Anyways, great team effort tonight. What ever they did before the game, they should do before every game.

half of sports is psychological. When this team plays with confidence, they are NOT an 11th place team. We’ve lost roughly 15 games where we’ve had a lead, had we won even 7 of those games we’re looking pretty good.
Nice to see a W for a change, nice to see pk sitting for most of it.

How does Cole not get a star. I figured it was between Bourque and Emelin for #3, I guess they skipped him as everyone knows he’s the #1 guy almost every night.
