The Canadiens look ready for the opener

Montreal Canadiens' Brian Gionta scores a goal on Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Mathieu Garon during the first period of play of their NHL pre-season game at the Colisee in Quebec City

POSTGAME AUDIO from Pat Hickey in QC: Steve Yzerman (between periods) | Brian Gionta | Mike Cammalleri | Carey Price | P.K. Subban | Hal Gill | Jacques Martin

PREGAME AUDIO: Tom Pyatt | Guy Boucher | Mike Cammalleri | Hal Gill | Jacques Martin

Unplug the panic button.

Five sleeps till the opener.

Playing without Andrei Markov, Lars Eller, Ryan White and Travis Moen, the Canadiens looked great against a very good team, romping to a 5-1 win.

Carey Price is ready for the regular season.

So is Scott Gomez.

The team looked great in all aspects of the game … including courage, as evidenced by Josh Gorges going after the thug Ryan Malone, who tried to decapitate Chris Campoli

cammi seems too casual tonight, so many giveaways, perhaps too much sex before the game or not enuf

  2. HabsFanMTL says:

coles been demoted to third line already

  3. Danno says:

Gomez is getting the lucky bounces in preseason. Luck is a big factor. I hope it stays with him throughout the regular season.

    Nice play by Diaz

  8. Darche!! And good job Spacek!

  9. That kind of pass should never, ever connect. Diaz and Spacek with some bantam level pass blocking.

  14. No sense going mental over this crap. These games are equivalent to controlled scrimmages without coaches’ interruptions. The house league will begin in a week where we play 82 games to eliminate 15 teams and of course the Maple Leafs. Then we play for the Cup. Arrive healthy, with momentum and decent goaltending and anything is possible!

    Gomez!!!!

I am not getting the Diaz love except for the obvious, which comes to me via my wife, whose opinion of him can be summarized as “HUBBA HUBBA”. The last guy JMac had a crush on ended up getting traded to VAN. Just sayin’.

  22. HabsFanMTL says:

cammi’s been useless tonight on power play, in an earlier one he preferred to keep passing it back to a rookie diaz than to take the shot himself

When healthy, I would try Cole, AK46 and Eller as line. If you want a big fast line this one. You can putDD on the line with Pleks

  25. otter649 says:

No big deal about Weber playing forward – The Habs know what Weber can do or can’t do as it is about Diaz proving whether or not he can show enough to stay & not go to The Bulldogs. Also if Diaz has a rough game or needs a break Weber can step in for a shift or two……..

  26. What I would do with P.K. and Carey (or at least propose) if I am PG next summer:

    Offer Subban a 3 year, 3.5-4 M deal
    Offer Price a 5 year, 4.5-5 M deal – including a no-trade clause

I would not ink either longer than 5 years. Maybe Price. Maybe. I am not a big fan of long-term deals. If a player like Stamkos gets a 7-year deal, then a 4-5 year deal for Price and Soobie should be just fine. I would say 6 for Price, since he is the franchise player, but that’s the absolute max.

Subban. Elite potential. Already a good player. I don’t want to pay for potential. Right now he is a top 2 dman. He has potential to be a franchise player. I’ll wait 2-3 years to throw money at him. Which is why I think a 3 year, 3.5-4 M deal is reasonable.

I am not saying Price and PK should not get paid more than that at all. Just my opinion, lol.
What do you guys think? Give your opinions too please, I’d love to read them.

  27. I have no idea what he is saying, but I kinda like Mario Trembley. (I did love him as a player. Damn, to be a rookie dressing against the Red Army on New Years’ Eve!)

  28. HardHabits says:

This might not need repeating but Brodeur put on some weight.

  29. Still not sold on Diaz so far, panics far too much defensively and doesn’t seem to have killer instinct offensively. Yemelin has had a better camp.

Hey, where is today’s preseason update on all things Blues?

      • HardHabits says:

Halak let in 4 goals on 24 shots. Blues lose 4-0 to Stars.

        • Mark C says:

          That explains it.

        • Everlasting1 says:

The pp goal was on a screen and tipped in. But other than that, not a particularly good outing for Halak. Dallas’ Raycroft stood on his head in this one.
