Punchless Canadiens drop another one

Canadiens-Budaj

The Tampa Bay Lightning brought an NHL lineup to the Bell Centre, including super sniper Steven Stamkos and promising rookie Brett Connolly.

Each had two goals in TB’s easy 4-0 win.

The Canadiens had two good lines, a fourth line of future Bulldogs and a goaltender who is going to keep Carey Price busy this season.

Dwayne Roloson, who turns 42 on Oct. 12, recorded the shutout.

Trailing 3-0, the Canadiens mustered all of two shots in the third period.

Meaningless game, but …

Doesn’t matter who is in nets, we haven’t scored

  2. RiverviewCanadien says:

I hope what Chuck (I think it was) said earlier is true and the team is getting all the “bad bounces” now, rather than later.

  3. Captain aHab says:

Bournival looks like he’s got a quick release.

  4. verticalj says:

Just tuned in, hows gallager tonight?

  5. C_exacte says:

if only i hadn’t seen that 5-0 comeback a few years ago, i’d be able to change the channel on nights like these

  6. Mark C says:

Great look off and shot by Bournival. Kid can play.

  7. avatar_58 says:

Shitty score, but they are very aggressive and into it. Just need to finish, take less penalties and trade that goalie

  8. Chuck says:

Man, they can’t even buy a break tonight.

  9. Captain aHab says:

    Another post…..

  10. Captain aHab says:

I really hope the boys are just going through the motions and not as disorganized as they’ll be during the season.

  11. HabinBurlington says:

MAB just destroyed our phenom, uh oh

  12. HabinBurlington says:

Gomez has been pretty sharp tonight.

  13. hansolo says:

I know it’s the preseason, and that we have rookies and a few certified AHLers in our lineup facing a near full NHL roster. But even if we aren’t, in toto, as skilled as we could be because of the non-roster players, neither are we as fast. Boston and TB are just as fast. How does that bode for the season? I don’t think we’re terrible but we’re all in all a pretty average team. I predict with or without Patches and Cole, we’re going to have our share of nights like this. I do think the team has lots of heart and I think they’ll be full value for their talent level. I just question if the talent level is that high, and the notion that we’re a skilled, fast (albeit small, but not smaller than Buffalo) team.

  14. I know it’s preseason and all, but these dudes can score for love or money!

  15. HABSGUARDIANANGEL says:

    are we really this bad?

  16. punkster says:

The gel has yet to set.

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  17. Willy the bum says:

    Still preseason, folks… -_-

  18. JasonM says:

Would love to see the Habs score tonight.

  19. scrowe21 says:

Nice shift by AK without the puck. Had 3 solid hits in like 15 seconds.

    • HabinBurlington says:

Is it just me, or does it seem like he always gets better late in games. I still wonder if his meds for his epilepsy are right. Guy can be so effective, but seems to start sluggish. Of course most of the roster tonight still hasn’t woken up tonight.

  20. punkster says:

I like that Downey has been targeted so often. Even Gill hit him.

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  21. jo_maka says:

Diaz is still ajusting, in tweaking mode if you will, but this kid is solid. Could be a steal.

Engqvist were to improve his skating he’d be fine, he knows how to use his stick in defensive situations but can’t go those areas fast enough.

    - I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  23. Willy the bum says:

Ned Flanders on nets: he’ll let in anything.

I wonder if he has two sons named Rod and Tod…

  24. HabsFanMTL says:

ship Gill out, now even Diaz has to compensate and run back for the puck for him, i think we’d be better off trading gill Somewhere, Diaz and Yem’s will be just fine along with Campoli.

  25. TheAmerican says:

Josh Gorges. Tougher than me. (By a lot.)

  26. TheAmerican says:

Get back out there Josh. Please.

  27. The Dude says:

    Gorges just hurt a knee?

  28. Timo says:

    MAB wins!

Btw, can we get Alex Auld back… or at the very least Halak? Boooooodaaaaaayyy!

  29. olegpetrov says:

Sooo, when will people start calling Yemelin “Le Mellon”????

    Habs fan…Nuff said

  30. HabFanSince72 says:

Carbo asked about AK46′s lack of effort, replies “he’s always been like that”.

    So he knows.

Presumably everyone knows. So why is he still here?

  31. Ian Cobb says:

We will just flip on the switch, come regular season right?

With this fast talented group of players, there is no reason to be playing so poorly. We can not hit the net, make two passes in a row, or clear out in front of our net.
I still think we win the east though.

  32. zak says:

Time to stop blaming the players and time to look at the coaching

  33. LL says:

I’ll wait a few months before declaring Budaj swiss cheese.

Besides why concentrate on our backup when we have one of the best goalies as our number 1.

  34. ProHabs says:

    Budaj looks bad.

Anyone know who the Habs pro shouts are. I think Timmins does a pretty good job at the draft but our pro scouting seems to be a weak point. Even Pierre McGuire was asking yesterday “who scouted this guy to sign him for 2 years”. And when we think about pros like Niimanni, Boyd, Larocque, who is scouting these guys and recommending them to the GM.

  35. C_exacte says:

i can’t get the dooley’s song out of my head, it’s like something out of dead space 2

  36. adam76 says:

Bad on the D, embarrassing goaltending, zero offence – a joke in the faceoff dot…

    why worry?

  37. DEANDALLEY says:

We will be OK …. Right?

  38. rogieshan says:

So, here we are, Phase III of training camp, with just one more preseason game left to get it together…

    Fantastic.

  39. Exit716 says:

“Booing an injured player” Yeah, right.
Booing a diver is more like it.

  40. Matt. says:

They Canadiens have looked fine, except for Budaj….
Gallagher needs to see more ice time in the third…
Engqvist is invisible. He belongs in Hamilton

But Budaj… i hope he’s the start of a long line of backups for Carey Price

    • HabinBurlington says:

I respect your positive outlook, but you do know we would have to score to win the game even with Price in net right?

Oh yah, this is a preseason game

      Serenity now, Serenity now

  41. AK_PK_Usay says:

At this point, Im concluding DD is overrated, he skates fast, BUT, does not have the vision of a center. And enough PP time for him, he’s way too uncreative to play PP.

Why is our 3rd playing vs TB 1st? Is JM that bad to get outplayed so badly… (very likely as the laffs outplayed JM in ottawa year after year in the playoffs)

  42. HardHabits says:

    Nothing that a few 1st and 2nd over-all picks can’t cure.

  43. zozotheclown says:

No finish today, we have some decent pocession, but we’re just not clicking. I suppose that comes with the fact that we have no superstar that can just score at a moments notice, a la Stamkos, so the only way we’ll start scoring is when we really start clicking. That’s what preseasons for anyway…

But Budaj, in terms of speed, positioning, and control, reminds me a lot of David Abeisher. Basically, he does not look anywhere near NHL calibre right now. Even his saves look like they could go in.

  44. RiverviewCanadien says:

Plekanec can move the puck. I really liked that PP with Pleks on the point.

If only Cammalleri could do what he is paid to do, score goals. This would be such a different game.

    • ffenliv says:

You know Cammi had 3 in 3 before tonight, right? He missed two can’t-miss chances, but that won’t happen often. He’s almost always money on that hash-mark high shot on the 2-on-1, or any other situation from that spot, really.

Everyone has an off night. If he retained this pace, he’s score 60+ this year. Of course, he won’t. I doubt anyone in the league will bag 60, but you’re complaining about a guy who scored in 3 straight games, and missed chances in the 4th.

      • AK_PK_Usay says:

Actually, in playoffs cammy is great, in season he’s overpaid.

And i get the feeling we shouldnt mention this, but Gionta is vastly overrated. He got 29 goals with PRIME minutes, got PP time every game, was moved with plexxx…

After his stay in montreal, people will probably come to admit he was a mistake and letting Boucher go was an even bigger one… (same goes for Kirk, but i guess him not speaking french excuses his loss)

  45. C_exacte says:

i wonder what Alain Crete has for a desktop pic

  46. zak says:

Send Budjah to the dogs and bring up Lawson. Is bob gainey still behind the scenes advising PG on who to sign?

  47. munch17 says:

Desharnais -3 again. Not an NHL centre.

  48. HabFanSince72 says:

    2nd intermission question.

Should we fire Martin and Gauthier now, and let the next coach and GM get a good head start, or wait until November?

    I vote for now.

  49. Sal says:

PP not looking like it’s clicking just yet. Probaby don’t get much chance to practice pre-season. Stamkos/St. Loius look mid-season. Yikes!!

    Sal from the Hammer

  50. HardHabits says:

Well. At least the ice looks good.

  51. Jim Edson says:

One pair of rose coloured glasses please!
    Vets look very rusty!
    D looks shaky.
    Budaj looks like a mistake!

      Uhm, You are Barack Obama….

  52. Gerry H says:

Goaltending and defense has been brutal. But this team is going to score more goals than it has in a few years.

Are we witnessing the end of The System?

  53. punkster says:

Can you believe it? Gomez is playing a good game and the rest of these slugs couldn’t score on St Laurent with a pocket full of Bordens.

    ***Subbang Baby!!!***

  54. Chuck says:

Maybe the tough bounces now will mean that they’ll go in our favour in overtime of this year’s playoffs.

  55. OneTimer says:

seriously though…forgetting the last PP, I think our first wave will be pretty damn good this year. And we haven’t even seen Markov yet

  56. Captain aHab says:

Boys are strangling their sticks and it’s the pre-season. Loosen up a bit.

  57. HardHabits says:

If the regular season looks anything like the pre-season…

  58. O-ZoneVertigo says:

I think I like the other Slovak goalie much better.

  59. Danno says:

    The whole team is snakebit

  60. Captain aHab says:

Not real impressed by Engqvist. I think he’s going back if Eller is ready.

  61. JasonM says:

This is ridiculous, score a damned goal.

  62. habsoloutly says:

Habs can’t score in a brothel.

  63. C_exacte says:

what happened to MAB, he’s not a -3, boucher!!!(wrath of khan yell)

  64. HabinBurlington says:

Does our lineup really rely on Eller, Moen and White so we can score?

  65. avatar_58 says:

I’ve seen enough, Budaj is teribble. No form what so ever, he’s just leaping in front of everything and praying it hits him.

  66. Danno says:

How much longer before we say “Goodbye Budaj?”

so, do we suck, or are St-Louis + Stamkos THAT good? how many 2 on 1s has that been?

  68. hansolo says:

Whoever said Tom Pyatt might score on Budaj was nearly proved right there…

  69. HabFanSince72 says:

And Pyatt almost scores! I called it!

  70. Captain aHab says:

    Boo die!

  71. HardHabits says:

Mr. Spock: The Habs have a mathematical probability of scoring 1.27846 goals per 126.86943 shots they take.

    Capt. Kirk: Lack. Of. Offense.

  72. dhenry1234 says:

all the budaj hate is a lil early. He’s looked solid this second period and less shaky. Maybe he’s just got the bell centre jitters.

    Chill out Peeps.
