I think that he had time to think about that. Seeing Stan Bowman be congradulated for the Hawks’s win pissed him off enough to do his homework for the next time.
I imagine SK will go before the start of the season, but Andrei will stay since they won’t be able to get a whole lot for him based on his past two years’ production.
But that could be okay, since this is a year he will be playing for his next contract and he is looking like the kind of player that needs that sort of pressure for motivation. He needs to look like a hot talent, worthy of great $$. Watch him stay here for this year, get 40G and 35A, then sign with another team for 2011-12. Either that or he never fully recovered from that head injury he got against the boards against the Rangers back in October 2008.
Hope Hamr can be traded for cap space. They need to find a team with cap space and a young D needing veteran guidance.
@OnTheFrozenPond tweets that Panthers trade Keith Ballard (watch out Luongo!) for Steve Bernier and the 25th overall pick! (6 picks in the top 50 for the Panthers…UNREAL!) Chicago of the West in a couple of years!
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
Caps beat writer reports on twitter: Spied #Sabres goalie Ryan Miller and #Habs d-man Josh Gorges on the floor – could they be making their team’s selections tonight?
If it is true, I’m really happy for Gorges! Deserves it totally…hinting towards him becoming the Captain?
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
Bennett was well-reviewed at last year’s camp as well I recall, I’ve tried to keep an eye on his stats since then. He’s going to join the powerhouse NCAA program at the University of Michigan for 10-11 as well
Kirill Kabanov would be a home run swing, which I’d be inclined to try in the Habs situation, if the local media weren’t going to be all over him for his reported “character” issues and his “betrayal” of a Q team. They don’t like Russians very much in the Montreal papers.
OTOH, the KHL bridge is semi-burned for him so there’d be better odds of him actually playing in North America.
Why the hell does Columbus even have a hockey team? I mean I can understand places like LA, Florida having teams because they are huge tourist destinations, with the potential to draw a respectable amount of fans. But Columbus Ohio??????
There is a chance he could end up in London with the Knights. Dale Hunter (coach and co-owner of London) and Mark Tinordi played together from 94 to 99 in Washington, so if the Habs ask him to go that route, it wouldn’t surprise me.
How many players were team mates of Tinordi over the course of his carrer? I don’t think the Hunter connection matters at all. And, at the end of the day, the NHL team has a very limited impact on what happens. They haven’t signed you so let them piss off. I’m reminded of Eric Nystrom whose parents made him complete his studies before turning pro. I think Leblanc is cut from the same fabric. Also, you guys really have to get a grip on what NCAA D-1 hockey is like. BC, the NCAA D-1 champion, would beat the Spitfires worse than Rodney King. They are men for Christ’s sake!
Some will disagree for sure, but I think that, after the top 5 or 10, the rest of the field looks pretty much the same. Ya pay yer money and ya takes yer chances. I’d say that the only exception is Mclrath. He’s pretty much a “what you see is what you’re gonna get” prospect. Not pretty by any means, not a ton of skill or a great skater. Not a terrible skillset but adequate. The guy, however, is big as a house and is one badass mofo. If that’s what you’re after (and I think maybe we are), and there’s a deal to be made that we can live with, then that 15th pick might be something we should look into. Other than that, I see no reason to climb the ladder. If you’re suggesting we offer AK for their 1st round pick, then I need to see a lot more coming back than that pick.
I agree with WarHero we have to try and get the 15th pick and get Mcilrath, seriously. Does anyone consider Andre K. a scorer anymore? Apparently that’s what Florida wants.
Crabvader, you should be our next GM. Apparently you’d be able to aquire any draft pick you want! that would be a very helpful skill to have on our management team.
Scouting reports indicate limited puck-moving skills so I’m gonna trust these professionals over my own impressions.
I could care less about punshing bodies. I’m not a big believer in the impact of physical D-men, which is continually overrated. I’d rather have four quality puck-movers as my top-4, and more’s the better if they’re physical, but I view it as lagniappe. If it’s a guy’s calling card and he’s not good with puck skills and positioning — things that contribute to actual defense — then he won’t be an impact player, and probably not a top-4 D-man unless he is babysat by a Markov type.
Disagree. Like I say below, PG got his man (and apparently, Vancouver’s) without giving up any acquired players. Presumably the scoting staff had a look at the 2nd round and thought, MEH.
This was a great move, nice to see some boldness in PG mixed in with that smarmy braininess.
Actually according to scouting reports he’s a deceptively good passer and improved his puckhandling drastically this season. Also McIlrath was drafted 10th overall despite having zero offensive or defensive ability, so I view this pick as a steal.
Tough to give up the 2nd rouder but it may very have been well worth it. We now have no picks till the 4th round, hopefully that will change by tomorrow morning.
WTF was Phoenix thinking using that 27th pick on Visentin? They could have easily gotten him in the second round, probably with the 57th pick. That one really blows my mind.
Anaheim made out like bandits with Fowler, my father and I were watching the draft and I was just utterly shocked at seeing Fowler and Gormley go that far in the draft. Did no one notice it was an incredibly talented Top-4 group for both sides in the Cup Finals? Several teams are going to look back on this night and beat their heads bloody on their desk. This night also confirms that Glen Sather’s a freaking idiot, again.
I”m glad to read a dissenting opinion about his puck skills. A big guy without puck skills is overrated and has a ceiling as a #4. A big guy WITH puck skills, OTOH… that can be very, very, VERY good.
I’m just a little worried that Gauthier’s “man”, the guy he was willing to spend an extra 2nd on, was a ‘physical shutdown D-man’ type. If you trade up with a second, IMHO, you should try for the home run. You can’t really homerun with a shutdown D, unless he becomes an all-rounder.
In a way they’re like checkers… you need them, but you don’t go out of your way to draft them.
OTOH, if he has real puck skills, it’s a whole new ballgame.
Not to mention Florida robbed Vancouver blind on the trade for the 25th. Ballard is good, no question, but worth Bernier and a first rounder? We’ll see.
What I meant is it’s semantics – you LOSE at the draft if you don’t get the good player you need. So let’s say they didn’t trade – Tinordi gets taken. Now what wiseguy? At least this way we got what we needed – a large hithouse
And while we’re at it, who is this Brian Burke character? He didn’t seem to be affiliated with any team that made a pick tonight. And apparently not in the next round either. And not in next year’s first round. Perhaps he’s been granted some sort of observer status.
I tend to agree with you. Still 2-3 years away. I just hope they develop these guys properly and not rush them. Nice to see the Habs move up 5 spots after dropping 16. LOL!!! Kidding!!!!!
I think the consensus is that he’s a work in progress. Komi 2.0 is an apt moniker. However his ability to make that 1st outlet pass might give him an edge so hopefully he’s an upgrade on the beta version.
At first I said oh no not another American but given that 11 went 1st round and his size I am mildy and pleasantly surprised.
Guys like you are restoring my faith again, to a point, but still cautiously pessimistic. Nice read though.
I tend to think that the Habs are going quality as much as they can this draft since they can’t go quantity. I am reluctantly accepting things are moving in a good direction as far as rebuilding is concerned. Hopefully not too little or too spread out over time.
I’d love to see the day that the Habs have more than one 1st round pick especially two in the top 15.
Great deal and selection — I hope this indicates that the organization finally realizes what the fans have been saying all along — we’re too small and need to get bigger. I hope this is a prelude to our July 1st activities, like signing Colby Armstrong or other big, strong players.
Let me understand, we surrender our second round pick for their fourth and a chance to pick 5 selections ahead? What is Gauthier thinking? If Tinordi were that good, why wouldn’t he would have gone in the top 15 (or top 10). Certainly seems like he gave up a lot to move up 5 spots. Remember, PK Subban was selected in the second round. Chalk this up to yet another questionable move by Gauthier. With just a few brush strokes, he has dramatically altered the team’s chance for success in the future. Fire Gauthier!
Not the pick — Tinordi is a fine pick in the 22 spot. But big physical “shutdown” D-men with limited puck skills are overrated (without puck skills, you CANNOT play top-notch shutdown D) and they are not worth spending an extra second to make.
Probably not a big deal but that’s a trade they didn’t need to make.
And I’m worried about the cult of big American D, that doesn’t seem to have done much for the Habs lately.
Oh wahhh – it makes no difference what round someone is picked in. You go for what you want right away, and they wanted Tinordi. What happens in rounds 2 and beyond is a crap shoot.
Should have kept the 27th pick, pick up a solid player (emerson etom) and wait for pick 36 – which could have been the Kirill Kabanov or someone of equal stature. I would take 2 players over tinordi and a fourth rounder…..Fire Gauthier
Makes no difference what round a player is picked? What rock have you been living under? Take a look at the stats, and you will see how many 2nd rounders make it into the NHL compared to 4th rounders. This is why the players are ranked, Einstein. With your logic, Taylor Hall might has well been drafter in the 9th round….
Well Tinordi could be and most likely will be two or three years away. Then again he is a big strong kid who can skate and skill will decide where he plays next year. O’Byrne , 6’5. Gll 6’7 and this kid at 6.5 . O’Bryne was one of our best D-men down the streach till JM ruined him. So any chance of this kid being something special as rookie would be ruined by JM. He better off in school or in junior till we get JM out of Montreal.
Is Bettman’s ego so big that he has to have the microphone podium set to his height when every freakin’ NHL scout/GM seems to be 6′ +… they’re all bowing down to talk!
of course you can. i would maybe just vent with slightly more reasonable expectations than to arbitrarily move up in the draft to any position of your choosing.
Is there a more non-descript organization than the freakin’ Hurricanes? They have Eric Staal and still just seem like one big hockey blahhhh. Bring back THE WHALE!
I don’t know why you are surprised………….depressed………..wait till you see what we will get…………then you will be really down…………….after watching the begining of the draft we are better to go to the bottom & get the good picks to build with right away
The number one prospect from Russia, Kirill: Offensively gifted no doubt there, missing a size and defensive edge. Not to mention he seems to have a bit of an attitude problem.
Honestly, looking at the list they all look pretty similar… If it were my choice (from this list), I think I’d go with Ivan Telegin. 6’3, 185-200 pounds depending where you look. He’s been playing in the OHL, and proclaims he likes the Canadian style of hockey. He likes to park himself in front of the net.
The downside, he as well has had some disciplinary issues… Doesn’t use his size as well as he could (thats about half of the big guys moving into the NHL these days…)
If he is available we should pick mark pysik from edmonton oil kings, or im hoping for jack campbell. Also got a feeling we are going to be involved in a trade today.
Those are some decent players from the 27th spot. The Habs could use a player of that calibre from this draft. And the talent pool is deeper now then it was back then. Maybe, just maybe, the Habs can get a guy who plays in the NHL in a few years. That is all we can hope for.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie: The son of former NHL defenceman Mark Tinordi is an absolute physical beast, almost 6-foot-6 and still filling out a frame that is more than 200 pounds. He blew scouts away with physical testing at the Combine. He’s naturally aggressive, a heavy hitter, with outstanding leadership and character, as evidenced by his captaincy on what may be the best U.S. U-18 team ever..
Why, what else is supposed to happen? A fight break out? I’m not sure what exactly people think a draft consists of. This is why I said I don’t see the hype. After the first 2 nothing happens.
Still waiting on a blockbusting freakin’ trade!!! Eklund was wrong, nothing’s going down!!! I don’t know why I go to his site but it’s like riding a moped… kinda fun if your friends don’t see ya (don’t bring up the calorically challenged woman joke)
BIG kid. And physical? I like. Hate that he’s another us player (not that he’s american, just that he’s been developed there). We’ve had too many college player busts.
No MILFs but lotsa cute sisters or girlfriends… man, this is what it’s come down to, just cuz we saw some cleavage in the first couple of picks… we are pathetic, we are men!
2008-09: Played for the US NTDP Under-17
squad. In 42 games vs. NAHL competition, Tinordi scored 2 goals and
added 13 assists for 15 points.
2009-10: Captained the US NTDP Under-18 team that competed in the USHL.
In 56 games for that team, Tinordi scored 5 goals and added 8 assists
for 13 points while tacking on 95 penatly minutes. Tinordi won a gold
medal as a member of the Team USA squad at the 2010 Under-18 World
Junior Championships.
Talent Analysis
Very solid defensively and tough. Skating is fine. He
probably does not have the puck skills to be a two-way defender at the
NHL level, however.
Future
Has committed to University of Notre Dame for the
fall of 2010.
a great pick..excellent blood lines. if he plays like his dad it will be a super choice..excellent size and hopefully a nasty piece of work to play against down the road.
I like this pick I guess. Big. I don’t know if I would have traded up but we could have done much worse. Congratulations Mrs. Tinordi, you must be very proud.
NESN:The apple didn’t fall far from the tree for the son of former Minnesota North Stars defenseman Mark Tinordi. This 6-foot-6, 205-pound rear guard is a punishing force on the blue line, just like his Dad was. His passion for the game exudes with every shift. Many have said he may be the most NHL-ready defenseman in the draft, and his stock is rising as we get closer to draft day.
Here’s what Ebbs had to say on Tinordi:
“This is a big kid that I see playing at the NHL right away. He has that nasty bone, and like [Dylan]McIlrath he can play physical and nasty with a great first pass as well. So he has that skill and size combo that all the scouts like.
“A lot of people have compared him to Flames defenseman Robyn Regehr. Certainly, it is one of those situations that he is a simple, big, tough kid that can have an impact and, quite frankly, step right into an NHL lineup because in this era, you can’t spend three years [developing in juniors] because at age 27, they’re potentially gone. So, when you get a player like this that’s drafted at this spot or higher, they’re looking for him to step right in because he has a lot of talent and size.”
The coaching staff at UND led by Jeff Jackson is freaking miles ahead of anyone he would play for in the CHL. Just sit back and watch him develope. Remember that in NCAA D-1, he will be playing against men, not boys.
Plus Obyrne, Gorges, maybe Carle if he develops? Not so bad on D. I love Markov, but I look forward to a future where his injury doesn’t = the apocalypse
So does Tornidi start with the Dogs next year. Can this kid play a haif season in the AHL and jump to the big team. I say this kid has the best D coach with his dad wow this could be the steal of the draft.
He’s going to Notre Dame where he will be coached by Jeff Jackson. Jeff Jackson is the old Dean Blaise. He took an NCAA D-3 program into D-1 and turned them into a powerhouse: Lake Superior State. I think they won two D-1 championships and lost a third one to the Maine team that Paul Kariya played on. He has really turned the program and Notre Dame previously run by Dave Poulin around. two year ago they lost to BC in the NCAA D-1 Final.
We have some decent defencemen in the system, but after Subban I can’t see anyone as more than a 5th or 6th defenceman. This guy’s different. Good pick, Gauthier, and I think it’s more than worth giving up the 2nd for.
I know!! I loved Nino in juniors, then when he beat the pants off the Russians in the WJC, I knew he was the one for Montreal. But, no…other teams thought the same thing. Damn them!

Great,,, we just renewed our mortgage,
you’re going to have to get a loan from the bank
I’m drinking scotch, this will cost me a bunch….
Clearly, you get it!
There aren’t that many stomach pumps in Canada.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
the hospitals are going to be busy tonight.
Boone, any comments on Hall’s mom? That’s quite a dress!
Who’s up for a drinking game? Any time that Pierre McGuire says that a player get’s it, you take a swig of your drink.
Be ready for some alcohol poisoning if you take on this game.
I wonder if the Oilers will airbrush the giant teeth and weird eyes in their team picture?
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
If Gorges is indeed on the floor, I hope they name him captain right here.
How many times is McGuire going to repeat himself that Hall is the best player in the draft? I’m surprised he hasn’t called him a “monster” yet.
This is like the debate Lafleur vs Dionne. Can’t miss both of them.
Seriously…Taylor Hall. Shut up.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
Why the speech? Just announce the pick Steve
The Oilers’ runner kid looks like the kid from Bad Santa
C’mon everyone who help make the Oilers suck please come on the stage….
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Anyone else loving Bettman getting boo’ed? Wonder if any GM’s participated…
Actually it does, truth be told.
Let’s get Ladd from Chicago — Pacioretty for him, straight up.
Hahaha more hate on the dwarf!
Doesn’t the podium look like a big cup of coffee ?
Booing Bettman just never gets old.
Booed in LA lol
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
come on LA, you can boo louder than that!!!
I think that he had time to think about that. Seeing Stan Bowman be congradulated for the Hawks’s win pissed him off enough to do his homework for the next time.
And then get fired for tampering.
Watch out for Florida, Tallon will make them competitive within 2 to 3 years….
OMG, they are just babies.
PG to staff: “WHERE’S MY F@!#@# PHONE?!?!”
They are hitting CTL-ALT-DEL on that franchise. Probably not a bad idea.
Does anyone else think Duthie’s teeth are scarily white!
I imagine SK will go before the start of the season, but Andrei will stay since they won’t be able to get a whole lot for him based on his past two years’ production.
But that could be okay, since this is a year he will be playing for his next contract and he is looking like the kind of player that needs that sort of pressure for motivation.
MAGodin tweets that A wealthy friend whose son is being drafted tomorrow invited him (Gorges) to fly to LA..
Gotta love twitter!
My guess of the Habs 27nd overall pick: LUDVIG RENSFELDT
B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.
They already have a big core of young d-men.
I wonder if Eklund had E5s on those trades… Rundblad… 56th pick…
ugh.
Can we draft Tarasenko’s sister at #27?
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
Last years 17th pick, that would mean trading Leblanc, do we really want that?
Selected by St. Louis Blues round 1 #17 overall 2009 NHL Entry Draft
B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.
Actually, I think he’s waiting for Gainey to arrive and tell him what to do.
I doubt Rundblad is a revelation. I’m saying we have some picks and expendable youth.
Believe it or not, Eklund was the first one to call the Plekanec resigning and the Byfuglien trade this week.
Lars Eller is gonna rock. Just a gut feeling.
lol
he can play 5 on 5, 5 on 4, 5 on 3, 4 on 5 … shaddap
The Schwartzes clan has some COUGARS!!!! Man, I’m sinking into pathos.
This is good. Will Smith’s son was projected to go late in the first. Soemthing may be available at 27.
Lools like the Schwartz will not be with us
So first St. Louis takes our goalie, now they take out undersized, skilled center? Bastards.
PG’s going to go Russian.
It looks like your Schwartz is just just as big as mine!
What did Tallon do for that pick that he requires lip balm?
lmao, easily one of my favourite movies of all time
Excellent.
now that’s what I call wheelin and deelin
McGuire said he gets it. Drink, fellas!
So Phoenix obtained Brandon Gormley for Olli Jokinen.. Good for them!
B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.
May the Schwartz’s be with you
Gotta love Darth Helmet.
Cool! The Purple & Gold! Rogie!!! Rogie!!!
Like Sideshow Bob in prison
I’m buzzed right now, I think LA just drafted Marcel Dionne….
I wonder if the fans in st louis blog about midgets too
Holy crap Boone. My arse we’re picking by 9:30.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!Go ottawa.
These deals are just killers! David Runblad?
i’m seeing two of everything right now
PG is in the bathroom taking a leek like Leslie Nielson did in Naked Gun, so he<s too busy to make a deal.
Funny Boone. Murray, lip reading. Spit.
Maybe it’s the booze talking, but John Davidson looks like a fatter Jack Layton.
huh
only be russians LEFT by the time we pick
pff
So we can’t offer someone like David Rundblad for a pick? Gimme a break.
I hope the Habs draft a Russian so we can enjoy their ladies.
Russian picks are where the chicks are at….
gawd, he even LOOKS like Sergei
OK, the Russian’s mom wins out as first MILF or Bond girl… if that’s his mom.
Who needs D when you have Halak in nets, St. Louis going for higher risk forwards
Wow for a minute there, I thought you were going to say something you might regret in the morning.
I agree with Boone here, I’ve read that Mac Bennet was impressive in this month’s development camp.
Bennett was well-reviewed at last year’s camp as well I recall, I’ve tried to keep an eye on his stats since then. He’s going to join the powerhouse NCAA program at the University of Michigan for 10-11 as well
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Kirill Kabanov would be a home run swing, which I’d be inclined to try in the Habs situation, if the local media weren’t going to be all over him for his reported “character” issues and his “betrayal” of a Q team. They don’t like Russians very much in the Montreal papers.
OTOH, the KHL bridge is semi-burned for him so there’d be better odds of him actually playing in North America.
I’m starting to get this feeling that it’s gonna be Krill.
NO! That just means he’ll play better against us… Dammit
Didn’t he say the little brother is the habs fan?
They all are. Eric included.
Oh man, Dale Tallon wants to be vindicated for building Chicago, screw Bowman….
No, his little brother had leukemia – his dad said he’d wear the jersey of the team that drafted Eric but over the Habs jersey LOL
For some freakin’ reason, Florida has been kicking our ass for decades!
ohhhhh yeah, you picked up that “thank you” when Duthie mentioned that he built a champion eh?
My die hard CBJ fan wife is on pins & needles
BIG TIME….
MILF watch continues.
I thought the CBJ needed a offensive d-man!?!
And now ?
Meh, they need a guy to play with Rick Nash at center.
Johansen is going to have to put some pounds on. He’s scrawny.
My wife and her CBJ nuts on HF boards are all going “WTF???”
here comes my pick #5
VAN already has 7 D signed for next season, if they get Ballard someone will have to be moved.
This kid looks like he’s ready to ask the question ”fries with that ?”
SHE IS GLORIOUS!!!!
Alyssa Milano – is she trying to hit on one of the draftees or something? What a puck bunny…
There’s your milf; Alyssa Milano.
Does Alyssa Milano count as a MILF?
Charmed I’m sure
After I impregnate her she will.
The kid has Wang on his shirt…. hahahaha
Well played, sir.
And P Mcguire proves he has no life outside of hockey.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
“Thousands of fans” at the Islanders’ arena? Come on, there are barely thousands there for games, let alone for the draft.
Can I trade my #5 pick for Alyssa ?
God, Snow can barely speak English. AND the Neanderthal takes the one guy I REALLY wanted in this draft.
You know it’s bad when McGuire says “He has no holes and he’s not soft…an excellent choice for an Islanders team on the rise.” Oh, man…
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
Oh man solid line by Mcguire: “He may be swiss, but he doesn’t have holes in him like swiss cheese and he doesn’t melt like melting chocolate.”
That kid looks like the kid from “Up” lol…
Why the hell does Columbus even have a hockey team? I mean I can understand places like LA, Florida having teams because they are huge tourist destinations, with the potential to draw a respectable amount of fans. But Columbus Ohio??????
The Scotch is working it’s magic.
That’s the line of the night! You’re bang on!
one hour for 5 picks. By the time it’s montreals turn it’s going to be tomorrow morning…
lol
I was thinking the same thing.
———————————————————–
“Fans are great, but the quickest way to start losing is to listen to them.”
- Sam Pollock
lol
thats Wangs kid, looks like he doesn’t miss too many meals.
Huge fan base in Columbus. Been to a half dozen games there. All they need is some winning.
Really? I admit I don’t know $hit about Ohio, is it a hockey state like Michigan or Minnesota?
Quick question for everyone, the first MILF will be with which pick ?
I’ll go with #5
I’ll go with #4 the CBJ
Hopefully somebody from the American sunbelt, so we can look forward to nice bikini shots.
The Bernier rumor was true!
LMFAO! Vancouver got raped in that trade.
Well it wasn’t #3, that’s for sure….
Thank’s Bob …… Quick Pierre trade Markov for him…. He wants to be a Hab….
Hilarious how big of Habs fans this guy and his family are. Wish we could have got him.
The Gudbransons, true Hab fans, like it!
Gudbranson’s dad is a Habs fan????? How do we get our hands on this kid?
Awesome, this sounds really promising.
Doesn’t former Hab Kovalenko have a trademark on “Russian Tank”??
Any
lip-readers?
Come on Mr. Boone, that’s an obvious typo.
You meant to type any lisp-readers.
Cruel … but funny
I like Bryan Murray. He’s always entertaining to listen to.
The guy has a speech impediment, get over it.
That may sound a bit harsh, but I don’t see how it’s cool to make fun of someone that can’t help how they speak.
Crabvader, you should be our next GM. Apparently you’d be able to aquire any draft pick you want! that would be a very helpful skill to have on our management team.
Lol, gimme a break. Can I not express discontentment towards a man who says he is “happy with his team” that squeaked into the playoffs?
Would have hung on to
pick number 25 if Tinordi was still on the board. That’s why Gauthier
moved up.”
So that’s why Gillis looked so choked.
Anaheim gets Fowler and Etam well beyond each’s projected rank, lucky steals for them, its not like they traded up for them either.
Etam is the feel good pick of the 1st round
Tough to give up the 2nd rouder but it may very have been well worth it. We now have no picks till the 4th round, hopefully that will change by tomorrow morning.
WTF was Phoenix thinking using that 27th pick on Visentin? They could have easily gotten him in the second round, probably with the 57th pick. That one really blows my mind.
Chicago can’t afford the $$$ of a 1st round pick..
Islanders just traded two second rounders for the 30th pick, seems pretty much even to what montreal traded for the 22nd
The kid from “Up” is back!
I’m kind of indifferent. We haven’t been great at drafting in the middle rounds, so I’ll not be upset if they stand pat.
Only we got a fourth rounder out of it as well. We did better, for sure.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
The resemblance really is incredible. I just can’t stop laughing about it.
Anaheim had a great first round. Fowler and Etem will be great for them.
jeeze i already forgot what the trade was
McIlrath was off the board. Picked way too early.
I”m glad to read a dissenting opinion about his puck skills. A big guy without puck skills is overrated and has a ceiling as a #4. A big guy WITH puck skills, OTOH… that can be very, very, VERY good.
I would say Anaheim and Florida are the unobvious winners of the first round, 2 steals for one and 3 picks for relatively little for the other.
We’ll see.
PG steals Tinordi from Vancouver.
Like the Hamburgler, minus the ham of course, PG takes off into the night!
Grabner is going to be money.
makes no diff price 1st rd halak 9 rd who,s better.
Bernier, Grabner and a 1st rounder. Vancouver made a big mistake there, got desperate.
What I meant is it’s semantics – you LOSE at the draft if you don’t get the good player you need. So let’s say they didn’t trade – Tinordi gets taken. Now what wiseguy? At least this way we got what we needed – a large hithouse
As Bugs Bunny once remarked, “I like it, I like it”.
And while we’re at it, who is this Brian Burke character? He didn’t seem to be affiliated with any team that made a pick tonight. And apparently not in the next round either. And not in next year’s first round. Perhaps he’s been granted some sort of observer status.
Ballard is average and makes too much money.
That’s what I was thinking. Losing Tinordi must have blinded Gillis with anger.
I kind of consider oreskovich and grabner to be a wash, so it’s essentially bernier and a first for Ballard.
Didn’t you get the memo. It’s called “massive rethinking of our roster with our eyes on the future.”
Why am I sad all of a sudden?

Guys like you are restoring my faith again, to a point, but still cautiously pessimistic. Nice read though.
I tend to think that the Habs are going quality as much as they can this draft since they can’t go quantity. I am reluctantly accepting things are moving in a good direction as far as rebuilding is concerned. Hopefully not too little or too spread out over time.
I’d love to see the day that the Habs have more than one 1st round pick especially two in the top 15.
More quality drafted players are needed.
Habs should trade for a second round pick and take Kabanov. We need more pure goalscorers. Hopefully Tinordi develops into a force on the blueline.
Great pick PG….No complaints here , like this kids size , and a future 1st round D man….NICE
Granlund: Scouts told Mckenzie he’s the smartest kid
in the draft. Highest Finn ever selected.
Not really.
K Lehtonen #2, O Jokinen #3, A Berg #3, M Koivu #6, T Ruutu #9.
No, no, he meant HIGH!

Great deal and selection — I hope this indicates that the organization finally realizes what the fans have been saying all along — we’re too small and need to get bigger. I hope this is a prelude to our July 1st activities, like signing Colby Armstrong or other big, strong players.
Who wants Boone to interview Tinordi’s Mom?
What would your questions be?

Let me understand, we surrender our second round pick for their fourth and a chance to pick 5 selections ahead? What is Gauthier thinking? If Tinordi were that good, why wouldn’t he would have gone in the top 15 (or top 10). Certainly seems like he gave up a lot to move up 5 spots. Remember, PK Subban was selected in the second round. Chalk this up to yet another questionable move by Gauthier. With just a few brush strokes, he has dramatically altered the team’s chance for success in the future. Fire Gauthier!
Habs made a boo-boo.
Eller, Kristo, Leblanc, Tinordi, Weber, Subban, Trotter, MaxPac, Palushaj, Engqvist, Nattinen, Avtsin, etcccccccc.
This is looking nice.
I’m impressed with Tallon. He is making moves, and they all look good for the panthers.
I agree. A nice player, but not necessarily a trade that they needed to make.
Overall, though, I don’t think the draft position swap will hurt the Habs that much.
Oh wahhh – it makes no difference what round someone is picked in. You go for what you want right away, and they wanted Tinordi. What happens in rounds 2 and beyond is a crap shoot.
He’ll make Stan Bowman look like a novice. Florida is doing things right, right away.
Also new MILF alert….
Did Boone go to bed?
Yep, I like all his moves so far
He’s like Forrest Gump. He recovered from a leg injury and is now fast as hell!
Nope. Had to update the HIO main page
Big time. His sisters, too.
57th pick? Probably not but it’s where Timmins does his best work.
Tanking is always in style!
I doubt he’s as big of a chocolate lover, however.
You’ve probably never seen Tinordi play a game if not even a second of a game.
Don’t judge his puck-handling skills. That’s why we have coaches who coach at a profesionnal level and a farm team.
Tinordi is the biggest man in the 1st round and a leader. He’s a good skater apparently and a punishing body.
I like the pick considering we have no real depth on our blue line and even less physical d-men.
Seriously, how many of these 1st rounders will ever even play in the NHL?
Leaf fans would be best to ask this question.
Colorado Joey Hishon, centre, 5’9″… small is in. Hear that girls?!?!?!
That’s like making fun of Bettman for speaking like a dwarf.

Someone give Austin Watson’s family a show on TLC already.
Does Brian Burke think the hockey world revolves around him? What an A-S-S.
lol is Burke for real? Of COURSE he regrets it, he just can’t admit it on camera to the fans. It’s just hilarious to watch him act like it’s not true

LOL-not many will get that.
I think Pierre McGuire and Darren Dreger need to get married.
Normally GMs will congratulate the Cup winning team before announcing their picks — I don’t think one team has congratulated the Hawks tonight.
Lol, Pierre getting all butt-hurt because they didn’t pronounce Sheahan well.
oh ya? very nice looking i presume

The fact that the kid was kicked off two teams in little over 2 weeks is a little troublesome…
of course you can. i would maybe just vent with slightly more reasonable expectations than to arbitrarily move up in the draft to any position of your choosing.
But that’s why I’m on HI/O!
Is there any chance PG will draft the american goalie ???? hahaha that would make me LMAO…
Talk about rolling the dice…..
Risky pick taking Connolly that high, TB getting stacked up front though.
Chewing gum, this kid is heading far…..
… and the MILF watch drags on.
Skinner’s mom has got to be hot
i’ll call pick #8
We used to go to that sub joint all the time. great stuff.
Connolly’s sister/gf…. ehhhyyyyyyyyyyy
Did Connolly say he wanted a drink?????? Nope he said Training….
Ok doesn’t look you in the eyes, chews gum.. Don’t like him at all….
I know he’s a kid, but Connolly sure seems like an a-hole
Steve Yzerman wouldn’t draft an a-hole.

pretty surprised fowler’s still on the board after the sixth pick.
J.T./Boone – get a room already
What’s all this talk about Connolly’s freaky hand?? Looked normal to me.
Looks thin.
any chance cam fowler/gormley drop all the way to 27?
One of two solutions for you – Get glasses, or get HD. He was missing a good chunk of the hand.
No fair, we’re supposed to draft players under 6 feet.
At this rate Fowler will still be around when we pick….then again
Looks like they might.
With those guys still available, there must be some consideration by many teams to try and trade up in the draft.
This Skinner kid looks like a keeper.
7 picks, no MILFs, what are the chances???
Is there a more non-descript organization than the freakin’ Hurricanes? They have Eric Staal and still just seem like one big hockey blahhhh. Bring back THE WHALE!
What the hell is this? A commercial per pick now?! Come on…
Whatever happened to Angelo Esposito?
Man Ozzy is still alive? great but his music died with Randy…..
OMG these ads suck
So does The Green Zone with Matt Damon. Very disappointing.
Does dudley pick a goalie? Campbell?
My fave pick so far is Gudbranson, really handles himself well.
Great. Now McGuire’s echoing my thoughts… scary.
We’ve got our first MILF of the night!
MILF ????? Yes – NO ????
Burmistrov is like Samsonov…we all know how that worked out!!!

what do i win?

wow, this draft seems to have some skilled kids. kinda depressing watching all these teams get better.
Nope, she looks like The Nanny, Fran Drescher
The russian gomez
I think we’ve got a winner! Is she available via mail order?
Lol, I’ll GLADLY take Fowler or Gormley
People hate D, maybe MciLrath will fall to 27, not bloody likely….
I say YES…… They should interview her with that russian accent
I say the MILF floodgates are going to open big time….
Was that Mrs Burm? I wouldn’t kick her out of bed for eating borscht.
Burmistrov mom is Fran Drescher… non-MILF! Non-MILF! Still waiting for her…
A date with her, if you go to the proper web site…..
You win a night with the mother of the Habs’ first pick.
MILF floodgates are going to open
That sounds so inappropriate. Funny, but inappropriate.
I thought she was ok. I don’t like my MILFs to look like ECHL puck bunnies. I like mine with short skirts and looooooooooong jackets.
I don’t know why you are surprised………….depressed………..wait till you see what we will get…………then you will be really down…………….after watching the begining of the draft we are better to go to the bottom & get the good picks to build with right away

Do we draft Jarred Tinordi if he’s available? I would.
You just said you’d go for Kabanov if he’s available at 27.
I’m hoping Habs roll the dice with Kabanov. Could be a gamebreaker, best skillset out of any remaining player. He’s also huge.
Mark Tinordi let himself go! Take it easy on those honey buns and budweisers!
Was that Killer Kowalski beside the red wings draft pick ?
So the player that’s drafted by the Habs today gets to put on a Habs jersey with the number 10.
That could be a good omen. Especially if he plays like number 10 did.

maybe she looks like Sergei too
Nope…..
Tinordi would be great, we need size on the blueline… Galiev wouldn’t be bad either, big guy, from the Q
Geezus that was nasty.
I think the Habs need to draft some big lazy guy, a stay-at-home forward type… why not? 27th picks don’t make the show anyway.
10pm curfew, in Montreal? SK74 is probably just getting out of bed right now before he goes out tonight

Here’s a list of various Mock Drafts, noting their choices for the Habs at No. 27.
Is it much of a surprise that McGuire thinks the Habs will go the Russian route?
___________________________________________
Ya! The Habs Rule! now on Twitter!
Looking at the link provided by TSN: http://www.russianprospect.com/
I like your thinking war hero then frolov/cammi/pleks on the same line
Would love the see Gauthier try to get that 15th pick from Florida to get a chance @ Dylan
Both Kostitsyns to Florida for that pick and a prospect. This move could free up enough funds to sign UFA Frolov

Hey Boone, does Dreger actually work for TSN? I thought he was an MLSE plant.
Dreger was recently let go by AM640 when they cancelled LEAFS LUNCH… he’s a tool, sleeps with his hockey cards in his Leafs jammies.
Columbus and Tampa took insanely risky picks, and defensemen of Fowler and Gormley’s quality are far more rare than a lot of the forwards going here.
This Minnesota pick looks like Sundin in ’89. Goofy spiky hockey hair of yesteryear.
Granlund is just a hair taller than Bettman!
Another American defenseman? How well have David Fisher and Ryan McDonough(late of the Habs) worked out?

Mrs. Tinordi, YES MILF!!!!!!!
agreed
TSN’s Bob McKenzie: The son of former NHL defenceman Mark Tinordi is an absolute physical beast, almost 6-foot-6 and still filling out a frame that is more than 200 pounds. He blew scouts away with physical testing at the Combine. He’s naturally aggressive, a heavy hitter, with outstanding leadership and character, as evidenced by his captaincy on what may be the best U.S. U-18 team ever..
Size, character and leadership. Hmm.
B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.
I like em!

Well it isn’t the finnish kid. See what happens when no French player is in the top 50, no french milf that you see on St-Denis….
This draft is turning out to be quite a snoozer.
Why, what else is supposed to happen? A fight break out? I’m not sure what exactly people think a draft consists of. This is why I said I don’t see the hype. After the first 2 nothing happens.
hahaha
LOL! Tinordi is huge!
Certainly no MILFs in Edmonton
Dat’s for shore.
Yikes. Easy on the timbits, ladies.
The Habs should have left the number off the jersey! Don’t they know their own history.
I think it’s a marketing thing for all teams.
Haha, I didn’t get that at first
The Undertaker: gone
Very good pick, and Mark Tinordi will love poutine…..

Fowler’s probably feeling pretty bad right about now, looks like we wouldn’t have gotten Mcilrath even if we had traded for that 15th pick.
WOW. This draft is unbelievable.
Boring draft… no deals… McGuire loving every pick… no MILFs at all… thank God for Boone’s blog and all you guys…

lol
Ana HAS to take Fowler /Gormley
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
I wonder if PG will even bother to pick-up his phone to look into some options. Sadly, I doubt it.
Nope.
How the hell do you take a team named after a dumb Disney movie seriously?
Hahahaha, love LA fans.
The Ducks take a fowl.
Fowl. Duck. HA!
Fowler brought some ladies with him!
THe main question is when Breezer’s kids are eligible for the draft
Best fit since Todd Gill became a Shark. Or Mike Eagles went to Washington.
Some very YOUNG ladies, Sidhu…
Beatcha!
sharks have a week dedicated to him
At some point Satan has to play for the Devils before he retires.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ya, by a hare! HA!
No. By a feather.
Wow. Great pick. From a hockey family…. and he can be mean
Somebody feed Pierre a cheeseburger and poutine.
Would you buy a car from this guy? Yikes!
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
Look at that PG cocked eyebrow. What a jerk hahahaa
Can he destroy Lucic in a scrap?
I’m happy with this pick, we need size desparately. He has leadership skills to boot.
I was worried we would pick Kutnetzov
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
i’m happy with this pick
He’s got a James Bond esque “Martini, shaken not stirred” thing goin on
2 for 2 for Smiler and Skrudland.
HUGE d-man, hot mom.
Could be a perfect fit for partner to PK on our top D line many years down the road.
I guess we can all go to bed now… or go out… or whatever.
Here’s a prediction: Tinordi will be a much better NHL player than Dylan McIlrath
Mark Tinordi, feed whatever you’re eating to PG, stat!
Makes perfect sense- with so much money tied up in forwards, drafting a huge young dman is a good idea
I can go to bed now.
Hope so, we don’t need Komo Part 2
Leave that to Ian Schultz in all due time.
lets hope jared is as rough and tough as dad was. we’ll see in 2-3 yrs i suppose.at least we have back end size with him
I’m with you on that.
Is anybody already looking forward to Tinordi – Subban as our future #1 defensive pair?
Left
lbs
History
2008-09: Played for the US NTDP Under-17
squad. In 42 games vs. NAHL competition, Tinordi scored 2 goals and
added 13 assists for 15 points.
2009-10: Captained the US NTDP Under-18 team that competed in the USHL.
In 56 games for that team, Tinordi scored 5 goals and added 8 assists
for 13 points while tacking on 95 penatly minutes. Tinordi won a gold
medal as a member of the Team USA squad at the 2010 Under-18 World
Junior Championships.
Talent Analysis
Very solid defensively and tough. Skating is fine. He
probably does not have the puck skills to be a two-way defender at the
NHL level, however.
Future
Has committed to University of Notre Dame for the
fall of 2010.
Projects as a top-four defensive defenseman.
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/jarred_tinordi
Him and Schultz….
I think MTL is adressing the toughness aspect of the team. All our smaller players will grow 1 inch with him on the team in 2 or 3 years
Well, if he’s going to UND, he will certainly be better coached.
So is Trevor Timmins job on the line with this pick? I wonder who was behind the trade him or PG.
“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”
the Guy is HUGE, I like.

a great pick..excellent blood lines. if he plays like his dad it will be a super choice..excellent size and hopefully a nasty piece of work to play against down the road.
I like this pick I guess. Big. I don’t know if I would have traded up but we could have done much worse. Congratulations Mrs. Tinordi, you must be very proud.
Yup.
I guess Tinordi’s actually Canadian, his dad was playing in Washington when he was born.
NESN: The apple didn’t fall far from the tree for the son of former Minnesota North Stars defenseman Mark Tinordi.
And his NHL.com profile
B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.
so i guess this means 6’3 david fischer is going to be off the books.
Yup. If were lucky they will be a poormans Keith/Seabrook combo.

He talks like Christopher Walken via Jay Mohr… cool!
His dad was great-solid and character guy. if he’s half as good as his dad we have a winner.
The coaching staff at UND led by Jeff Jackson is freaking miles ahead of anyone he would play for in the CHL. Just sit back and watch him develope. Remember that in NCAA D-1, he will be playing against men, not boys.
mrs.tinordi..hot milf.
I think PG should get big props for moving up to pick this kid without losing any existing assets.
I really hope Tinordi goes to UND instead of the CHL.
A better skater than his dad! Sounds good to me. Biggest D-man in the Draft. Nice move PG!
Good job PG. Go celebrate with some V8 !!
Double post.
Hah, I was thinking the same.
I turned my attention to their sisters a while back. There should be a calendar for this stuff. Sexy Sisters of NHL Draft Picks.
THanks bro… and man I’m thinking youve been busy following sports this summer out of national pride
Agreed.
He’s committed to Notre Dame.
How’s Notre Dame in your opinion, I know you follow the NCAA very closely.
Plus Obyrne, Gorges, maybe Carle if he develops? Not so bad on D. I love Markov, but I look forward to a future where his injury doesn’t = the apocalypse
AHEM – Subban *will* be better than either of those two. You wait.
I believe.
Very, very solid program. See what I posted above.
Hope we can get our hands on Jaden Schwartz,
By the time he is NHL ready our small guys will be gone.
Always go for skill
Kabanov is 6″3 that’s not small exactly.
he is a little light, but wtvr muscle isn’t hard to gain
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Best part of the draft? Nice long camera pause on Burkie as Boston selects 2nd overall.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
HAHAHA! So true. Im now looking forward to it.

Ughhh, PG just watching and trying to low-ball other teams for a pick is my guess.
PG is going to trade our first and second round picks for a 4th rounder.
Fowler – very composed, great interview.
Yup, steal of the draft ?
mmmmmm pizza…
I like this kid big and a great blood line. The Habs are getting bigger so way to go PG.
It SUCKS being 27th pick.
Yeah, thanks Halak!
Not as bad as 62.
Another douche bag comment.
Stop being a smart-ass.
Crabvader made the pick.
Yeah, I say that down the page.
Wonder if we deal to get a 2nd pick.
I sure hope so. Tinordi is great, but I wonder if PG really needed to make the swap that he did in order to draft him.
I think Mrs. Gormley may be our first MILF!
DRINK
Did McGuire that Gormley gets it? I missed it! Okay, a drink it is!
This kid is just what the Habs needed! I’m elated! Well done Habs!
He even looks like Brad Richards!
In a quiet librarian kind of way.
Sarah Palin type
So does Tornidi start with the Dogs next year. Can this kid play a haif season in the AHL and jump to the big team. I say this kid has the best D coach with his dad wow this could be the steal of the draft.
Nope, we’ll have to wait a good 2 years at least. Let him develop. We have Gorges and PK + Markov for another year, no use rushing him
He’s going to Notre Dame where he will be coached by Jeff Jackson. Jeff Jackson is the old Dean Blaise. He took an NCAA D-3 program into D-1 and turned them into a powerhouse: Lake Superior State. I think they won two D-1 championships and lost a third one to the Maine team that Paul Kariya played on. He has really turned the program and Notre Dame previously run by Dave Poulin around. two year ago they lost to BC in the NCAA D-1 Final.
is it just me or is McKenzie STRONGLY implying that one of Richards’ or Gormley’s moms is a whore?
That just replaced the comment about Wang’s kid looking like the boy from ‘Up’ as the line of the night!
Whoa, Canadiens trade up pick an American in the 1st round draft and no one’s panicking? Is this the bizarro Commentariat?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Not when the kid’s dad was a solid d-man and the kid himself is something like 6’6″.
He’s not really American, just born there to his Canadian parents while dad played for the Capitals… like Zach Parise… Canadian bloodlines!
Okay, maybe not.
Will Stan say thanks to Dale ?
Peter just emailed Burke saying thanks…..
Did Etem break his leg on the way into the building or what?
WTG Burke!
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Chiarelli, make sure you thank Burke for this gift
Chiarelli should have thanked Brian Burke and the Toronto Maple Leafs…
I saw him have a little chuckle about who-knows-what. I’ll bet I know what he was thinking.
I just want to punch Chiarelli in his smug face.
Why, for building exactly the kind of team many of us would LOVE to have?
he looks like a wang?lol
Burke = Epic fail.
3 concussions away from being a “what if?”
“People build teams in certain ways. I’ve always traded for futures – not pasts.” – Sam Pollock The reason we are Hab fans http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=1476
Dude, that describes everyone on Earth.
We’re all one car accident / brain aneurysm / ice slip away from what if.
Great pick – liking PG’s moves so far (yes, including Halak). Good start.
Brian Burke, GM of two teams, building the Bruins thru the draft and the Leafs thru dumb trades… and they’re all in our division.
We have some decent defencemen in the system, but after Subban I can’t see anyone as more than a 5th or 6th defenceman. This guy’s different. Good pick, Gauthier, and I think it’s more than worth giving up the 2nd for.
Mac Bennett will be good.
I can’t wait for the dagger to strike my heart once Nino gets picked by some other team.
He will
I know!! I loved Nino in juniors, then when he beat the pants off the Russians in the WJC, I knew he was the one for Montreal. But, no…other teams thought the same thing. Damn them!
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
How proud does Tyler’s mom look? And his dad looks like he could lace ‘em up too!
Yeah, I’d love to have the lowest scoring team in the NHL….
Seriously though I just don’t like his attitude.
He reminds me of George Costanza
Lol and someone else I just can’t put my finger on.
Exactly
Cammy and Frolie made magic in LA and WILL do it again in MTL if the Habs get him
