Liveblog: Another shootout L

Luongo

Man, this is getting tired.
Your Montreal Canadiens blew a 3-0 lead on home ice.
Yes, they’re playing the Cup finalists.
But still …

Shootout:

DD: Glove save on backhand

Hodgson: Goal shelf

Max-Pac: High and wide

Kesler: Save

Cammalleri: Save

Played most of that OT in their own zone, one hand on the stick, watching the Canucks.

  2. morivera says:

another shootout…more time for JM to take notes

    Shootout. Great….

  4. Sotxhabsfan says:

    Got one point for sure
Most thought we would get blown out
    Disappointing still

very nice sequence of good coverage there

  9. kakey says:

Sweet DD pass but Pac is too tall for that knee on the ground shot move.

  10. JERM says:

Look at JM’s teams in Ottawa. Given that they had Alfredsson, Hossa, and Havalat to name a few, those were talented teams that should have won at least one cup. Problem is they would meet Toronto in the playoffs and lose because like their coach they had NO PASSION, NO FIRE. The Laffs had their way with them with lesser talent. I see no difference with this clown coaching Montreal. Time for JM to hit the road.

  11. doogie says:

worst comment of the year- trade Price to Van for Luongo and 2 first round picks. Habs suck anyway, might as well try and get CP31 a deserved Stanley Cup in Vancouver. (just kidding…I’m not frustrated)

  12. Bill says:

Am I the only one who DOESN’T like the idea of a mid-season coaching change? When has that ever worked for the Habs?

Jacques Demers !993… I believe we won the cup… :)

    • boonie says:

Lemaire had a better than expected playoff run riding minor-minor league call up Steve Penney.

But, yeah, I hear ya. The best solution would be Cunneyworth on an interim basis. At least we could dispense with the unwritten francophone Rule for the next hire.

PS – in was moments away from asking you for lotto numbers for your prescient predictions.

  13. LimestoneHab says:

    Are we shorthanded?

  14. Rickly33 says:

Haha, sorry but that’s funny. I told Martin do not know how to coach offense, this has more offense than they know what to do with, it has to be Martin’s way or no way, and you’ll sit, it’s not working. Plus the team is too predictable, same crap all the time, if it wasn’t for price and Lou we would have lost already!

  15. ffenliv says:

IF this gets to a shootout, tonight would a good night for Habs’ shooters and Carey Price to, you know, do it properly.

  16. TOP DAWG says:

Budaj better be warming up for a shootout

  19. badbalance says:

How many more leads we gonna blow this season, can we set a record?

  20. Habbu says:

No lead is safe with this bunch. They could be up 5-0 half way through the game and it would still be nerve wracking. They don’t know how to win. Almost like they expect to lose even with a lead.

  21. morivera says:

If this goes to a shootout, Luongo’s as bad as Price is.

  22. duffy says:

Great coaching by the genius JM ,We earn another loser point.

  23. Bill says:

Where did I read that the Habs don’t even practise the shootout much?

    • habstrinifan says:

If you seriously read this somewhere, it is, to me, another clearcut indication of the atrophy that has set in with JM’s coaching methods.

I mean lets give him his system. Let’s give him kudos because his system takes them to a shootout so often.

Then isnt is almost mandatory that you PRACTISE shootouts.

And still some here say JM is a great coach.

  24. joe-hab-nuno says:

The system is …………………………..”THE MATRIX” take the blue pill and this nightmarish coaching continues, take the red pill and you will know what “THE SYSTEM” is. Do you want to know what THE SYSTEM is?

  25. Habsbill24 says:

How do you turn two points into one? Play for a Jacques Martin coached team. Disgusting, again. Blew a three 3-0 lead.

  26. Cdnman1 says:

The Betmen zebras are at it again!
    Number 25 in 2012!

  27. Bill says:

Actually I would have been comfortable with the strategy of protecting a 3-0 lead. It just has to actually work, and should be possible! Habs hit the snooze button here.

  28. JERM says:

Did Luongo even break a sweat in the third period. He looks fresh as a daisy

  29. Evenin’ gents! Was watchin’ the Rangers get muscled by an angry, upset Tampa team that lost five in a row with some talent (Pyatt, et al ex Canadiens) and I came in at 3-1 and look!! It’s now 3-3. Come on! What is the matter with this team? Do they just not want to win, or is JM soooo bad that he can’t get his team up on winning a game against any team not to mention Anaheim or Columbus? Thank God Florida beat Boston, but New Jersey won and we’re really bottom feeding. What gives? Again?

WTF? No penalty on Bieksa? Insane!

  32. habsfaninboston says:

    Refs lost their whistles.

  33. HabinBurlington says:

Wonder what the record is for most games played that go to OT since new OT began

  34. The Dude says:

And for tonight’s shoot-out Yemelin ,Moen and Diaz

  35. TomNickle says:

This might cost Martin his job. Only one game in the next five days.

    • morivera says:

We’ve been saying that for 40 days already..

      • TomNickle says:

It’s rare that you get one game in five days to prepare a team with a coaching change. The second game is on the eve of the fifth day against the Islanders.

A bad start wasn’t going to produce a coaching change, but a lot of blown leads should. And this is the third blown game in a week. Considering that and the home ice record, and it’s time.

It wasn’t time ten games in, this wouldn’t be a knee jerk reaction.

  36. edtheh says:

When are they gonna learn that they aren’t good enough to sit on a lead? They needed a 4th goal.

  37. twilighthours says:

Is the love affair with eller over yet? He frigs around with the puck in his own end and takes dumb penalties.

I’ve seen this movie before. We lose at the end of it.

  39. Bill says:

I completely blame the players and not JM for this. They totally went to sleep on this lead.

Uncharacteristically weak game by Price, but this is when the Habs need to win one for HIM, for once, God knows they owe him.

    • Storm Man says:

What game are you watching? Lord martin is hands down to blame for this

    • Propwash says:

Price held the fort pretty darn good imho. Heroic in the 5 on 3, and made some insane saves. Taking penalties against the no.1 pp in the league will usually wind up costing anyone else in the league.

      Bill, Bill, Bill

The player do what they are told, hang back, no two men deep, surrender the blueline and fall back to the net.

This scenario plays out way to often for it to be the players.

      Its the SYSTEM.

What does the Commissioner of the NHL do?

In short, a league commissioner is the action man for the Board of Governors.

They tell him what they want done and he works to make it happen through his subordinates while making sure that individual franchises play by the rules.

******** Translated if you haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 40 years your NHL team is becoming irrelevant in a sports mad city long behind MLB, NFL and NBA teams, you just tell the commissioner(who you gave a new contract at 7 plus million per) to make it happen and the rules are bent sufficiently to action the command.

  40. Every facking time we have a lead, only to blow it off in overtime or shootout.

This team sucks. Frustration would be a nice way of saying how bad I feel from the inside. And I am sure, more than half of you here feel the same way.

    PUCK!

  41. HotHabs says:

PK … So much offensive upside, so much defensive downside!

  44. Jim Edson says:

Look on the bright side this will surely accelerate any “plans” the front office has!
