Personal business (my daughter’s birthday, if you must know) precludes attendance at the Bruins-Canadiens rematch at the Bell Centre Monday night.
I’ll be there in spirit … and will catch up with the Comments, which I trust will be numerous, after the game.
Subject for discussion: Where the heck is P.K.?
Looking over the rookie-studded roster, I’m not to worried about missing a classic.
Goalies
Price – Lawson
Defencemen
Diaz – Spacek – Tinordi
Gorges – Woywitka – St.Denis
Forwards
Cammalleri – Gallagher – Bournival – Berger
Dumont – Plekanec – Lefebvre – Willsie
Gionta – Trotter – Blunden – DeSimone

With options like Yemelin and Diaz available, the unavailability of Markov for even a month or two was no big whoop. They could have iced a perfectly serviceable Subban/Gill, Spacek/Gorges, Weber/Yemelin rear end and muddled through the first 15-20 games. This signing only makes sense if they think PK is out for a significant period.
I have to agree with you. I really questioned this signing once first announced. Going into camp, I thought that Yemelin and Weber would play alot better, and round out the D group, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Depth at D is never a bad thing. And once Markov gets back, we can be sure that there will be more injuries on the back end to follow.
Obviously Diaz and Yemelin haven’t impressed PG too much because he just signed Chris Campoli to a one year contract
Charge it to the Underhill’s.
Now for HH’s Timo impersonation:
It’s OK. The live blog will be mirroring the Habs play on the ice. Missing in action.
Too profound for me, HH.
OK. I’ll give it another try.
Ahem.
It’s OK. The live blog will be mirroring the Habs play on the ice. MABing in action.
No HH you’re missing the Timo essence.
It’s like this….
And Gomez isn’t playing…..again
“I figure PG has one or 2 moves left to bring the Habs that extra step closer to perhaps being the best in the league.” – Einstein
Man why is everyone freaking out. A couple months ago when Gorges was thought to be going to arbitration, everyone was talking about how Gorges would get slightly less than what Campoli gets at arbitration. Neither went to arbitration so we can’t tell what each deserved. But iif Campoli signed for .75m less than Gorges, thats a steal. Solid NHLer for our back end. It’s like we have two Gorges now, how is that a bad thing?
Campoli is not Gorges. Pretty sure he’s not even close.
The reason for panic is the possibility that Markov or PK’s injuries might be worse than we thought.
Chrisadiens and HabFan10912, one of the few father son tandems on HIO.
I’m sorry but Campoli has 397 gp and 135 points compared to Gorges 364 gp and 59 points. Skillwise Campoli is ahead of Gorges. If you go by heart, well then, nobody in the league compares to Gorges.
Points productions is about the worst way to evaluate defenseman. Gorges is an elite defensive d-man whereas Campoli is a fringe offensive defenseman with passable skill and is bad in his own zone.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
elite..i know he is a good player but elite. whats his salary…just saying.
I think you’re overestimating Gorges and underestimating Campoli.
Not at all, watch Gorges play. Look at his microstats. The man is seriously impressive.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
So now Weber gets moved up to forward and we have 7 D
Markov, Subban, Gorges, Gill, Spacek, Campoli, Yemelin with Diaz and Woywitka waiting in the wings. Also, I can’t see Campoli not fitting in great in the dressing room.
Interesting way to look at it Stevr. Maybe with Trotter going on waivers we see Weber playing forward tonight?
Campoli is no Gorges my friend.
Campoli is not someone you hire to replace Markov or Subban. To me this means PG is unhappy with someone lower down the chart, maybe Woywitka?
And would you say that Wisniewski and Sopel were players who could replace Markov and Georges?
At this point in the (pre-)season, nobody is looking to make blockbuster trades. Check out the list of potential free agent defencemen. Aside from paying Bryan McCabe $3 mil+, the list is pretty short.
“There’s genius everywhere, but until they turn pro, it’s like popcorn in the pan. Some pop… some don’t.”

You’re right about that, Woywitka has zero chance of making the team now.

Oh man you are not going to live a long life with your panic levels being so easily increased lol.
Hey Gerald, Im heading to Dover next weekend. Our boy Smoke, is looking good!

Lol, will do.
Chrisadiens and HabFan10912, one of the few father son tandems on HIO.
Campoli is not
I disagree
so much worry on here..gotta laugh.
good for campoli getting some coin. solid, depth player every team needs depth.
seems to me the habs were weak on the back end even if Markov was healthy.
Sure, and we him are so much stronger. Phew… everyone can stop worrying now. Thanks, PG, for coming through for us again.
don’t take it all so serious …not ur coin.
You see Timo, I would have never read that in your first statement. Thanks for clarifying
I am hard to read.
This past summer Arbitrator awarded Campoli 2.5Million per Chicago then walked away.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-07-20/sports/chi-exhawk-campoli-awarded-25m-in-arbitration-hearing-20110720_1_chris-campoli-stan-bowman-hawks-general-manager
That arbitrator was huffing gas.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
Just posting why Chicago didn’t regsign him, I wouldn’t be surprised if the number he signed for here wasn’t close to what they were offering.
Habs should seriously look at their physical training and training staff. Half way into pre-season we already have a pile of injuries.
No kidding, this isn’t normal…
It is for this team.
I think this Signing is good.. as far as the Forwards concern.
True… Gomez won’t feel so bad about his numbers.
Gomez is gonna have a breakout year…. “again”.
So Pou Pouliot taking shots at the Habs at CKAC poor guys i guess he feel protected by his news bodys
With that much backup I think Oleg Petrov would feel pretty tough as well.
He’s just scared of facing those tricky Bell Center Blue Lines again…
“There’s genius everywhere, but until they turn pro, it’s like popcorn in the pan. Some pop… some don’t.”
- Jerry Maguire
Apparently the ones in Halifax were jsut as tricky
when did subban get injured?
Theres a couple of people suggesting we acquired campoli in case subbans injury is worse than anticipated. Seeing as I dont watch pre-season, I didnt even know he got injured.
Subban has apparently been struggling with a nagging back injury for most of the offseason. I highly doubt that’s what this is about considering he looked absolutely fine in his one preseason game. Just one of those things that takes time to feel better and you don’t want to tweak.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
Habs sign Campoli.
How bad is Markov?
How unimpressive is Yemelin and Weber?
E.
Another useless signing.
How do you really feel Timo, come on give us your honest feelings.
same old , same old.
Time for MAB!
OK, so how bad is Subban’s back?
How can this be…. there was no mention of this Campoli thing whatsoever from Eklund. It was an E-nothing. How did this one sneak through the cracks…
don’t listen to habs rumors. Anything that PG has done so far absolutely none of it was leaked in advance. So if you have heard something you can pretty much discredit it
Clearly, just mocking that tool for never being correct.
Eklund is now saying a team is planning on sending Doughty an offer sheet…..
how is that guy employed. What a gear box
OMFG, is TSN’s moderator Pierre McGuire??? god forbid you try and troll leaf and bruins fans after 25 pages of habs trolling, just let 1 pro habs post through please!! guess i should stop arguing with idiots, but it’s so fun!

So, after thinking for a few minutes about this signing, I’ve come to the preliminary conclusion that this can’t be good news.
give it a few more minutes and come back when you conclude this is good news.
Hang on…
Nope, still not good.
I saw the effort Kempie, thanks anyways.
Steve Begin and Owen Nolan are cut from the Nucks.
I guess Begin is done.
hell be aight, i saw his new house in trois riv

Nice. I guess he can enjoy it now. Was a good energy player but he got hurt quite a bit.
Hopefully he can catch on somewhere
http://www.habseyesontheprize.com/2011/9/26/2450981/habs-sign-ufa-chris-campoli
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
Andrew, do you think this means our injuries could be worse on the back end then first thought or just insurance for injuries during the season?
Yes, and I’m already thinking this season is going downhill…
don’t freak out yet. Weber has looked rough on the back end and with the injuries to Subban, Markov, and Yemelin looking just ok I think we needed some insurance.
I am ok with the deal. We needed another D man.
i sense a trade
did your pants buzz?
pants only buzz on confirmation… duh
I hope it’s a trade and not worse injury news!
–| Brad Marchand | Starley Cup Chanpiar 2011 |–
Somebody needs to check Eklunds page and see if indeed a trade is en route.
I thought those were some intuitive pants you got there.
I’ll put it this way, I don’t think the org spends $1.75M if Campoli is only needed for a week. Either someone is injured more than is let on, or there’s a trade coming (possibly Weber).
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
I feel like I am at the craps table but cheering “Come on Trade!”
No kidding. This signing is a bit of a sinking feeling for me.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
Unfortunately, I think it is the injuries is my gut feeling
Mine as well unfortunately. But I can really see Weber getting dealt. His long term future with the Habs is up in the air with Subban, Yemelin and Beaulieu all outplaying him, and he could be very attractive to many teams.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
Weber eh? The Anti-Chambre crew were commenting on that last night, saying he’s lost some punch.
I guess this means Markov’s out for at least 21 games. That would put him on the long-term DL and free up Campoli’s salary for the year.
Apparently Campoli was asking the Hawks for $3 mil a year… is it a steal at half the price?
I’d say yes if he still had that model girlfriend of his… It’s times like this I wished he had held onto Valeri Bure just a little bit longer…
“There’s genius everywhere, but until they turn pro, it’s like popcorn in the pan. Some pop… some don’t.”

Heard on the radio that Chicago was trying to resign him, just asked to much as you report. I seem to recall watching him being a pretty good skater and is good on powerplay. Have seen that he is now 200lbs not the 190 being reported for years online.
Thing is, at 1.75 he is still getting too much… imo.
“There’s genius everywhere, but until they turn pro, it’s like popcorn in the pan. Some pop… some don’t.”
- Jerry Maguire
Agree. Having said that if they signed him for 1.25 would that extra 500K saved actually be used during the year. Is this a premium you pay to make him sign your offer immediately and stop waiting for other contract offers? This is the time of year different teams start to panic when injuries start showing up.
Considering he’s coming off a terrible year and he’s getting an undeserved raise, no, it’s not a steal.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
So maybe the guy’s not ideal. PG sees some immediate need so he grabbed this guy off the market. Best case: he fills the need that PG sees and makes this a better team. Worst case: he stinks, we send him down to the minors, he is either claimed off waivers or Molson bros. eat his salary but it is removed from the cap hit (correct me if I’m wrong on that).
I am encouraged that PG is shrewd enough with his money that he is able to spend what is needed to get what he sees as the best available player on the market to fill his perceived need and improve the team.
My only concern is why PG sees a need to pick this guy up. I hope it’s a case of wanting to give some of the new guys a chance to develop either in Hamilton or in junior and not, as has been mentioned, that this may signify a long-term injury to either Markov or Subban. Yikes.
I had a busy weekend and wasn’t able to come on here, so I was curious to see whart everyone thought about the losses Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Read all comments from both threads today and it’s pretty much what I expected. 50% on here are doom and gloom and think the Habs are having a terrible pre-season, and 50% don’t care because they know it’s only pre-season. I think I’ll wait until I see the “Habs” actually play a preseason game before I pass any judgement on this years team. Let’s drop the # in camp from the 55 or 60 that’s there now, down to at least under 30 before we starting evaluating “team” success ( i.e. final scores).
A lot of concerns about all the preseason injuries like it’s a continuing trend for this franchise:
MaxP has the flu: I’m glad it’s in September and not between October and June.
Team has too many injuries this early: I think they still have players rehabbing from surgeries and a few guys with minor ailments that the organization wouldn’t be stupid enough to risk further injury to a player that’s going to have a roster spot by putting him in a meaningless preseason game.
Price and Budaj have terrible GAA’s: Being a former goaltender I understand the importance of focus in a game situation and it’s a lot easier to be focused if the game actually means something.
If you want to get crazy about what’s happenning in pre-season thus far, look at some positives:
Gomez and PK are on pace for 82 goals each, MaxP, Cammy and Cole are on pace for 55.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
That just sounded funny….wanted to see what you thought about the loss friday, saturday and sunday…. LOL
Now you know how it feels to be a Leaf fan in the reg season
always a good laugh on TSN, half an hour after Mackenzie tweets the news in comes Lebrun with the exact same news!! those hockey insiders have a real pulse on the game
Anyone else think that 1.75 mil a season is a little steep for a D that has only ever played one full season his entire carreer?
…or a guy that was unemployed on Sept 26
Gauthier Out!
yes, very steep, don’t like it at all, way too much money for a d-man like him who will be the 6 or 7 d-man.
Gorges takes pucks to the head, bleeds for the team and gets 1 yr @ $2.5…Campoli gets 1yr @ $1.75
makes sense to me.
Maybe while Gauthier is awake, someone could remind him THAT THE HABS NEED A 4TH LINE CENTER THAT CAN WIN FACEOFFS.
77 games, 67, 76 games the past 3 in the NHL. This is however a raise from his last contract which I believe was 1.6mill per.
Your right, seems I read his stat sheet wrong.
ITs definitely steep for a team that has more defensemen than we have room for.
Something must be up here. Either someones out of the door, or someone is going to be out of the line-up far longer than anticipated.
Winnipeg and Sens are on Cbc right now
Carey Price #31
Habs sign Campoli to a 1 year deal @1.75!!!!!!
I guess they were really serious about starting the season with Beaulieu until the last two nights.
Um, not one to usually panic, but the last time we signed a D out of nowhere, it was Paul Mara, then Gorges was shutdown the next day. I hope this Campoli move isn’t before some really bad news about P.K. or Markov.
I am not one usually to panic, but, doesn’t look good for Markov, haven’t heard about Subban, now we sign another puck mover? The last time we signed a D like this, it was Paul Mara, and then Gorges was shut down…Just sayin’
Welcome, Chris Campoli! Here’s a highlight reel:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drQD4WWWVr8
Apparently he signed for 1.75 mil
well there goes the nice cushion the Habs had with regards to their cap space.
don’t worry, a 2 million + cushion is tons to make a move mid season, or at the deadline, not to mention the relief from Markov’s and any other salary that is on the IR. My concern is if this is because Markov’s injury (Or PKs) is worse than originally thought. Last time a move like that was made, it was Mara, and Gorges was shut down promptly after.
thats just, mean
*like*
Speaking of trouble makers, yeah you!
I actually sent a sales proposal back today saying it required tweaking…can’t frigging believe it!
Now that is funny.
PWNED
Troll.
So we complain that we don’t use up the 4M in cap space, we complain when we trade a 4th/5th for guys like Sopel and Mara, and we complain when we sign depth d-men, hmmmm.
Players placed on Waivers today;

Always thought Reinprecht was a nice player. Not big, but a good two way player. Hard to believe how far Cheechoo has fallen.
I hope he sticks up for Joe Thorton the next time someone says he’s over-rated.

I remember that too, but the poor kid was a Leafs prospect at the same time as Rask. 2 of the best goaltenders at that year’s Worlds and look at the Leafs now.

Worst part for the leafs was when they picked Pogge to be the future and got rid of Raask. Of course part of the mandated Leafs must help Bruins win program which has been in place for years now.

Must be some bad news coming about Marky/Subbie. Or maybe Spaceman/Weber is gone…
Have to think this confirms Hamilton for Woywitka.
yannick weber too (my mistake i pulled a brad marchand) yannick veber
I just googled him, since I don’t know much about him.
Google turned up a few pics of his buxom girlfriend in a bikini.
Now I know a bit more about him.
Monkey read…monkey do!
Maybe she got a part time job in Montreal at Chez Paree?
I just seen it on RDS. I wonder where he will be playing? for the bulldogs?
Carey Price #31
What, why? Whats wrong with Subban/Markov/Etc?
Just thinking this may be a band aid, nothing to back it up
It doesn’t bode well for Markov. I hope this doesn’t mean Suban long-term.
I wish RDS had descriptive video, especially for L’Antichambre & mario tremblay, “former coach responsible for st. patrick’s day massacre disagrees with optimism, begins flailing hands like that of a tube man at used car lot”
Don’t understand why Trotter would be one of the earlier cuts. Especially since it looks like White, Moen, and Eller might be MIA in Toronto.
Might bode well for Dumont. I think I’m liking him more than Envquist. Is Dumont a righty?
Just testing out the new signature…

I’m not too sure Woywitka is a better d-men to start the regular season as a possible 7th or 8th d-men for the big club. He seems like bigger version of MAB.

3 regular forwards, 2 regular d, and our starting goalie. Using blunden and lawson to get to the 8 veterans required for preseason play is kind of sketchy.
Actually believe Willsie and Woywitka are the ringers here. Not sure if Blunden or Lawson pass the criteria. It would have to be 100 NHL games for Blunden and 30 for Lawson.

Lawson, Inc. (株式会社ローソン Kabushiki Kaisha Rōson, TYO: 2651) is a convenience store franchise chain in Japan. The store originated in the U.S. State of Ohio, but today exists as a Japanese company and is the second largest convenience store chain in the country.[1]
In 1939,[3] a dairy owner named J.J. Lawson started a store at his Broad Street dairy plant in Cuyahoga Falls, near Akron, Ohio, to sell his milk. The Lawson’s Milk Company grew to a chain of stores, primarily in Ohio.[3]
Lawson’s stores in the United States were sold to Dairy Mart,[3] a smaller chain of convenience stores located in Enfield, Connecticut.
In 2002, Alimentation Couche-Tard of Laval, Quebec bought the assets and name of Dairy Mart. Most of the former Dairy Mart stores — many of which were either originally Lawson’s stores, or were located in communities in which Lawson’s once had a presence — were converted to the Circle K brand. Due to popular response from consumers in Ohio and elsewhere, however, Alimentation Couche-Tard announced that Lawson’s Chip Dip would continue to be sold “no matter what the name of the store”, as was reported in the Akron Beacon-Journal.[8]
In Atlantic Canada, they bought out the Irving Convenience stores and are everywhere. Now I know the rest of the store y.

whats with the lines period lol. getting bored with these preseason lineups, cant wait for the real thing.
Because Martin only wants to play 3 of his top 6 each night so that we have at least one offensive line every preseason game and they still get one day off. That means 3 rooks will take the place of line two.
Conceivably we should also split games with our line 3 and 4. Unfortunately, White, Moen, Eller are all injured. Not sure where Kostitsyn, Darche and DD are though. Maybe they’re hurt too.
Also Subban is hurt so he’s not in tonight.
Does anyone know that we caught the injury bug half way through 2008 when Tanguay and Lang (and Higgins, and Koivu, etc.) went down and we have not gotten over the bug yet? Ruined three seasons in a row.
So really, stop following the team until December when everyone is back….:(
