Alex Kovalev fires a laser to the glove-side of red-hot Tomas Vokoun on the power-play in OT to give Canadiens an unlikely 2-1 win.
Christopher Higgins had tied the game in the third period.
Carey Price made 35 saves, and the rookie is a good bet to draw the start against the Flyers at the Bell Centre on Saturday night.
Canadiens HAD to win this game to avoid going 0-for-Florida – and to stem a full-scale panic back home in the city of snow.

I’m neither optimistic nor pessimistic. We were due for another slump, and it’s time for BG, Carbo, and the crew to retool for the stretch run to the playoffs. They handled the last slump in December very well. The question is what strategy they’ll settle on to get us out of this one and how long it will be before it takes effect.
Telling the boys to try skating a little harder would be a start.
I ‘ll have to admit… when it was 3-0 at the Rangers game, i quickly thought to myself – “my how it’s nice not to have to worry. Having a team that can just come out of the gate firing on all cylinders, and is a blast to watch” It wasn’t of matter of if we won, but just going through the motions.
30 seconds later Ranger scored the first of 5 unanswered goals.
I think i jinxed us all in that split second.
Sorry everyone.
I’m starting to get the feeling that the Habs-Laffs game on April 5th will actually mean something. If the Habs need that game to sneak into the playoffs, they are as good as toast. Hope I’m wrong, but the whole team seems to be in one heckuva funk and the timing couldn’t be worse.
Won’t happen.
Well probably won’t happen. I suppose Carbo could get Dr M to spike their gatorade with ritalin.
Do they test for that?
“It’s not a purse, it’s European!”
- Jerry Seinfeld
lol i didnt know that was photoshopped until a couple hours ago, but it looks real
Yeah, but we’re selling Brisebois short here. Dandenault has had 51 games to build up that stunning stat. Breezer’s only had 34. Give him a few extra games, and he’ll get there. It’s only a matter of time.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
I seem to remember more than a gaffe or two from Georges that led DIRECTLY to goals against. It works the other way, too. And just imagine how some of the weak goalie play has affected their +/-… and they don’t even keep that stat for goaltenders!

Happy days indeed.
What a joke. Huet has done everything for this team. Please go join a site which deals with things you know something about.
Please!!!
Go Habs Go!!
Habsrule
I’m a Democrat, too.
Draft Al Gore.
Happy days are here again …
RIGHT ON!!!
I’m all for having Gratton as our third line center – he’s flown under the radar in terms of valuable UFAs to acquire at the deadline, therefore I hope we can obtain him at little cost.
BG should also take a look at Trent Hunter. I’d much rather acquire Gratton and Hunter than have to give up Higgins, OB, or a 1st for some high-profile player.
Well generally I am a glass half full guy, but last night made a bit of a pessimist out of me. First the bad
a) If Kov, Plek and Kos do not score do not hold your breath waiting for someone else to pick up the load, unless it is on the PP.
b) Watching Kov get bashed around is disgusting. We need a tough winger,( Chris Nilan where are you) who can throw a few when need be. poor Kov looked like he went through a meat grinder!!! He should never have to take that abuse.
c) Huet looked lost and unconfident during the first period.
d) We need a tougher defense. No one is scared to stand in front of the neet unless #8 is on the ice.
Positives
a) youth
b) youth
c) youth
d) Youppi
I agree, I’ve been posting that for the last week. 70% on the faceoffs last night.
why won’t he put sergwei with koivu and ryder, andrei with pleks and kovalev, higgins with lapierre and latendresse, and begin with smols and kostop
on d: markov and komi
obyrne with streit
and boullion and gorges
I’m optimistic! Because
- the Hamr will start nailing things back in place soon.
- the Breeze will blow away (and take the Smoke with it).
- Bob will make a trade to fix a hole or two… and because
…the team, when the right people are playing and the right ones are sitting is essentially a good one. It’s young – it needs time.
My biggest worry is that Carbo settles down. The teams needs that too.
________________________________________________________________
Habs Fans! The FUTURE looks bright:
Plekanec, Higgins, Chipchura, A Kostitsyn, Lapierre, Latendress,
Price, S Kostitsyn, Komisuarus, O’Byrne
Worst line combinations ever? why doesn’t he try kovalev in net and huette with brisbois with koivu on the third line?
If this year’s edition of the Red Wings can lose four in a row, with two of thos being to the laffs and the Kings, then anything is possible. Of course, I’m hoping that WE don’t lose our fourth in a row for the first time this year tonight.

They do in Québec…
haha, Breezer
But other players such as Georges have their minus’s from Brise’s mistakes. Not from themselves.
I hate Chris Gratton, no way do I want him in my team…
especially not because the guy as 1 good game in the season…
he plays and skate like a goat…
no thanks

Gratton is the answer. He owned last night. Trade for him.
Mike,
I’m always optimistic when Carey Price is in net instead of Christo-sieve. Habs win tonight!
*checks his watch*
Yep, right on time. The bandwagon of pessimism has arrived after the Habs lose 2-3 games.
Calm down. It’s good that they are facing some adversity. It’ll drive them to play harder in time for the playoffs.
GO HABS GO
I for one am optimistic, we are looking for secondary scoring. Guess what? So are 29 other teams in the league. We are also 4th in the league for goals scored. What we clearly need is a third line center who can play shutdown role and win draws. Laps is terrible at faceoffs and should be playing wing instead of center. Not concerned about the defence, we lose the last 3 and by coincedence no hamrlik. When the hamr is back the breezy is out, the D will be fine. Roman and obyrne are a solid second pairing. Better defence will improve our offence.
Between the whl, world juniors, ahl regular season and playoffs carey price played 82 games last season. Then tops it off by winning the calder cup mvp. The guy is a workhorse and maybe needs to play alot to be at his best. Lots of reason’s for optimism
Just remember Mikey,
Eeyore was a donkey, and you know the other word for donkey…

I think I’m optimistic. I have faith in the Habs this year. Yeah, it has been a crap few games – but that happens. It happens. The key is turning it around – and I’m optimistic that that can happen.
We’ll see – but I am optimistic.
-OG
Very true… I stand corrected. That would, of course, also explain Streit’s -11.

I am an optimist…..Hossa misses morning skate
Hossa misses optional skate today
http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/thrashers/entries/2008/02/13/hossa_misses_op.html
I’m not optimistic about tonight’s game. Panthers have been playing well lately with 7 out of possible 10 pts in the last 5 games. Montreal has 2 out of possible 10 pts in last 5. Florida is heating up while Montreal is in the middle of a blizzard!!!
A win would be an incredible and much needed boost to the team’s morale and confidence.
Officially changing my name to “ColdHabs” after this post, hopefully temporarily?
enjoying the high’s of being a Habs fan
We need a shutdown line like Pahlsson, Neidermeyer and Moen, In my mind these guys are the best shutdown line in the NHL…
Chuck – I bet Dandy hasn’t played more than a few games on defense this year and I think he hasn’t played defense for an entire game since the end of November. That -11 would be strictly as a forward.
The Original 24 Cups
I’m always optimistic when it comes to the Habs. Not really with anything else though…
So far Brisebois is in the middle of the pack, tied with Josh Georges at -5, which on last years’ team would have been tremendous. Mathieu Dandenault pulls up the rear with a -11, though the stats don’t differentiate between his minuses as a forward and as a defenseman.
I’d still rather have Hamrlik back there, though….

J.T., interesting blog post on the “backbreaker” goals. I didn’t realize there were that many. Yikes. As you said, we’re obviously missing a shutdown line and, too often, the job falls solely on Huet… which isn’t quite fair.
That’s right Nick. It’s all your fault. Now you have to turn around three times, spit on a Leafs jersey and keep repeating the mantha “Morenz, Richard, Beliveau, Lafleur… Morenz, Richard, Beliveau, Lafleur…Morenz, Richard, Beliveau, Lafleur…”
Either that or make a pilgrimage to Quebec City and ask Patrick to let the ghosts go.
And as someone who has to stand on one leg in the doorway while watching the third period, I’m serious about this
(Okay, I’m not really….unless it works)
Boone,
what in the bloody hell are u talking about lol. U kill me big guy. Whatever happened to simple english? Some of us are 20 here
I’m optimistic because even the freakin Red Wings have lost 4 in a row, including a game to Los Angeles.
We’re winning tonight for sure. I don’t have the slightest doubt in my mind. Everyone will be quite suprised as to who’s gonna score goals… I have a sick feeling that Kostopoulous and Latendresse are hitting the mark tonight for some reason…
The thing that scares me tonight has nothing to do with the habs. I fear the reaction of the Panthers after the Zednik incident. They are likely gonna give everything to win one for him.
As for the habs, yes, this is a slump. But who really believed they could play as good as they did in january until the end of the season? I think we were due for a little losing streak. That’s ok. Now, if this team has learnt its lesson from last season, they’ll react soon enough to avoid a total meltdown. So yeah, I’m optimistic.
Ah…Grasshopper…never underestimate Carbo-san.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
I highly doubt Breezer plays tonite regardless if Hammer plays or not. I’d say if Hammer doesn’t play, Streit moves back on D and we see the Smolinski, Begin, Tommy K line.
Last call? at least in ontario, not sure about other provinces
It all depends on Hamrlik. If he’s in, I’m optimistic. If it’s Breezer, well…I wonder if the liquor store delivers?
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
got to love our record without the hammer.
I’m optimistic we’ll make it to the playoffs, we’re not conetenders this year. just wait until next year and the year after, this playoff season will give our young guys some experience, why do you think Price is back up, because playoff hockey starts now and gainey wants him to be there to experience it
I may not be optimistic about tonight, but overall I love our chances, and it’s a great time to be a Habs fan.
We hit these speed bumps whenever other teams start figuring out what we’re good at; we then adjust our game, and go on another tear. Carbo must by now realise that if one team has figured out how to shut down our PP or first line or whatever, then everyone else is wise to us, and it’s time to come up with a new plan; he can’t afford to wait three or four games to change things up.
Bob Gainey should help Jokinen avoid breaking that record….
Retool?
I thought they had enough tools?
Yeah, it’ll likely mean one of the top three draft picks.
If we lose tonight, then we’ll have to worry. Detroit’s lost 4 in a row, I believe we’re in a minor slump. Let’s go boys tonight! Play hard and hustle! Let’s not worry….not yet until the outcome of tonite!
“We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets”
You could be right. Tuesday’s “Day-After-the-Rookie-Bash hangover” should be gone.(Thanks again to Vinnie and the boys for being gentle. it was a late morning after all). Now all they have to do is orientate themselves.
Won’t the Habs be surprised to see they’re still in Fla!! And playing on Wednesday!!! In the NHL!!!!
I dont know if optimistic is a word i would use for tonight’s game….perhaps hopeful is a better fit. They have played some bad games this season to come back and play pretty damn good the next. HOPEFULLY tonight is one of those rebound nights. Last night, from the start of the 2nd period on was absolutely pathetic. If they dont start getting consistant scoring from a line other then the Plekanec line….it could be a very disappointing finish….even more then last year in my opinion. The frustrating thing is when the Habs play their game and skate like they can for 60 minutes……they are a handful for any team in the league. I’m not ready to hit the panic button yet…. but a loss tonight coupled with a tough home and home with the Flyers this weekend…..poor showings in those games as well as tonight’s game and i’ll be taking the panic button out of the closet, set it down on the table and position my hand directly over it.
Laser by Kovy! Could not have ended on a better note.
On to Philly!
The roster is here: http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20072008/RO020866.HTM
Begin, Hamrlik and Ryder are scratches.
Anyone know who’s in and who’s out of the lineup tonite? Begin? Brisebois?
Woohoo!
Nice finish to the night. Especially against a red hot Vokoun.
Price doesn’t need to steal one tonight. The habs need a full out win tonight, from start to finish with every line hopefully having a hand in a goal.
see those stats…RYDER has been better than Koivu and Higgins
which stats??
hey man, i want ryder to rebound, but I don’t he’ll being doing in mtl.
The Kovy line is getting all the 1st unit PP time, and without it Ryder isn’t going to score that much.
My thoughts about the Hossa rumors:
While I’d love to have Hossa come to Montreal, the more I think about it, the less I see it.
He would seem to fit in alongside Koivu, but if that’s the case he wouldn’t be guaranteed 1st line minutes or even to be on the 1st PP unit
we can’t let a team with more empty seats then fans win tonight, lets hope this is a winning lineup
Ah I really hate playing these guys. And not just because they beat us, except for the last time he,he, but Jacques Martin kills hockey, takes the excitement RIGHT out of it. Let’s blow the Panthers out again Habs! GO HABS GO!!!
its so sad that that O’Byrne, who hasnt even played 20 nhl games, is so much better already then the Breezer. its really sad.
I’d give him at least 40 games before you make that rush to judgement.

It would seem our goal tenders have a problem with soft shots form the points.
We need some scoring chances – let’s get some shots on net.

It’s bad enough that the other team wants to tip the puck past your goalie; you definitely don’t need your own defence doing the same thing.

especially the ones that change directions from his own players
Hey Chuck would you be saying that if it was Huet in the net. Or would that be a soft goal. As you can see these things happen and there ain’t much we can do about it
Yeah, I’ll take one of those too. Hey, if we’re going shopping, I’d also like a 40 goal scorer and a 6th defensemen who doesn’t steal purses.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Komi and Booly? Wasn’t that unsuccessful against Ottawa?
We were giving up a lot of questionable goals the past 3 games. The defense as a whole is shaky without Hamrlik.
Only making a point. I know what happened. If that happened to Huet you guys would be all over him about soft goal. Like I said below. Stuff like this happens.
Dandenault, Streit, and Smolinksi… the softest fourth line in the league. The total antithesis of what the fourth line should be.
That was a very passive pursuit of the puck in the Panther zone by the Lapierre trio.
You got to admit the first line is alive though. Is it just me or does Saku look especially herky-jerky tonight? It seems like his balance is off or something. Favouring an injury perhaps?
they keep on referring to the florida team being an ahl team. laps, dandy, smokes, kosto, and lats all would be good ahl’ers. i can’t stand our lines. everyone complains we are a one line team. we’ll holy cow, what do we expect. our third line – laps, lats and kosto. they will score twenty goals between them for the year. our fourth line of dandy, streits and smokes is even worse. carbo is terrible when it comes to lines. bring up locke or grabovski, at least help our offense a little.
It;s OK, I’m awake now. I guess it really wasn’t all that bad except for the unfortunate Markov goal. This Panther team sure doesn’t strike me as being star studded. We can win this game if we just get some lead in our pencil and start playing with total passion.
The Original 24 Cups
I agree – you need the 4th line to energize the team – they are just going through motions out there. Any why is Streit playing with guys who can’t finish? At least put him on the 3rd line and move Lats back on the 4th line – at least he’ll fit in better there (a perfect fit for the “do nothing” line).
Teach – noticed the change in your photo ID. Nice touch.
The Original 24 Cups
If there was a team that could sit back and protect a 1 goal lead after one it would the cats. We seem to have so much trouble scoring against their system.
Odds of a shutout?
Thank you, never can get too much publicity for kids, can you?
Every single goalie in this league lets in goals that are considered “soft” by someone. Deal with it.
In this case I don’t think Price was expecting Markov to score on him.
i thought the boys would come out on fire tonight………..boy was i wrong…that 1st period was one of the lamest…even the PP was sloppy
if they can’t even put a solid effort against a team like Florida
good luck down the stretch
oy and double oy
Tony D,
I don’t find that they have played terrible. The first two lines are doing a good job for the most part. The last two lines are tired from swimming in the ocean?
The shots are ten apiece and we moved the puck well on the power play. We have to turn it up a notch I agree, but I don’t find it was in the bottom 10% of lamest first periods we’ve put out this year, not by a long shot.
What is a one-dimensional scorer…Is that like Leclair…is that like the two Hulls…is that like other players that score.I don’t know if people know one-dimensional from their big toe.
Odds of a shutout are very good. If the Habs play like they did in the first, they’ll only score if they get extremely lucky. Pretty embarrassing considering they’re playing against a crappy team’s B squad!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
jaques martin should be behind the bench in pittsburgh, put him in a tux with a monacle & umbrella and he’s the penguin from batman.

Just out of curiosity . . .
How much do y’all think Bouwmeester’ll command come contract signing time? Phaenuf-level money?
Ok, so not horrific but not exactly great first period. I’m desperately hoping for a little more ooomph in the second, if they come out flat again it’s done for.
(Pssst Mr Boone! Kovy’s free lip-enhancement job was courtesy of a puck to the face in the 2nd against TB. Dr. Lecavalier’s elbow didn’t perform that particular cosmetic procedure.)
Brian Savage
He is so one dimensional, he only scored the first 2 months of a season.
love the drawing by the way
Yet a very motiveted one, considering it’s their first game since the Zednik injury. Habs can’t take them lightly.

Thanks, We should be used to it by now though (both the ups and downs and the snow)! Sure beats the water-logged dump we got last time!
Bouwmeester will be around Phaneuf money, with maybe a longer term. Florida needs him.
Thanks Ali. I agree Florida’ll be looking to lock him in long-term. He’s turned into a real horse, eh?
I think Higgins had one of his best games of the year. Play outta trouble, buddy.
Nice! DOS PUNTOS!
Wow, what a shot.
So any bets on Price starting on Saturday?
Paybacks are a BITCH Yahoo!! Go Habs Go !!!!
Price played an Excellant Game!!
thank the gods, every single one of them!!! holy crap so much weight lifted off my shoulders and my heart…still not the greatest game they’ve played but its still 2 points
huge win, lots of character. thank god.
Well Carbo said the winning goalie gets the next one…so I guess Price will open vs. Philly…I have a good feeling about that game!
Koivu and Price were great tonight. Higgins had jump, and after that fluke goal even Lapierre and Lats had a good shift or two.
Sometimes all it takes is confidence.
Oh and Kovalev, I love you.
What a brutal call by McGeough…. but Yeaaaaaaahhhh!! Kovy!!!!

gotta hand it too vokoun tho man he was killing me
guaranteed
Life and death but I’ll take it. Kovalev shows that this game is still all about skill.
The Original 24 Cups
koivu played his best game and so did higgins even if he didnt score tonight i noticed him and koivu the most tonite
Price starts Saturday – no questions asked.
The Original 24 Cups
And for the record?
I’m an optimist.
Big couple of games this weekend, that’s for sure.
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
There is nobody in the league better than Kovalev in a 4 on 3 situation.
2 TOP LINES TONIGHT (ICE TIME)
A.Kostitsyn/Plekanec/Kovalev 11:13(TOT) 8:44(EV) 2:29(PP) E
Higgins/Koivu/S.Kostitsyn 8:49(TOT) 7:48(EV) 1:01(PP) +1
OK….glad we got the two points but Smokes HAS to sit the next game. He was useless out there. He’s back to looking like he doesn’t care. And he still gets PP minutes. Can’t. Figure. It. Out.
With that said, I noted earlier tonight on another site, I haven’t seen Saku smile much if at all this season & that goal by Kovy didn’t even give him a smile!!!
I sure would like to know what is nagging Kaptain K?
Top corner? More like left low post :S
Saku showed up so did Higgins and Price had a huge game so I would suspect he would get the call on saturday night. He deserves it. Great to win this game in the end. Four points back of the Janitors, unfrekkin believable! We can still catch them if the Habs go on another roll. Broad Street Bullies on saturday. GO HABS GO!!!
Price is back to not flopping on his knees and looking cool as a cuke.
Boone – Kovalev didn’t go top corner. He went low glove-side on the left-handed Vokoun.
You sound like Bob Cole when you say Kovalev went “top corner”
that is why huet shouldn’t be signed to a contract. we can use his salary to shore up our second and third line. we still need some help, our fourth line is terrible, and tomb the bomb on the third line is ridiculous.
Markov was ahead of Kovy IMO. So was Koivu.
You can say what you want but Smolinski was on the PP when Kovalev scored. He didn’t hurt us then.
The Original 24 Cups
hahaha love the Bob Cole rip
We need to show that little (&?$%(&?$ Brière why choosing Philly was a mistake…
Amazing!!
Good news:
1)We have a second line!! Koivu and Higgins seem to be back on track, with Koivu contributing to both goals and playing like the captain we know and love..first star performance
2)Carey Price, have average performances in Hamilton and here, out dueled one of the best in the buisness. Great game.
Needs some work:
1) I’m not holding my breath for Hossa, but I’d bet good money Gainey does make a trade prior to the deadline…for a defensive centre. As it stands, Smokes and co. aren’t cutting it.
2) Streit isn’t a forward, put him back on D…but with Hammer coming back, and the way Cube, Gorges, and OB are playing, I don’t see that happening.
But hey, I shouldn’t be complaining.
Great win, one we deserved to win.
He was great at watching Kovy score. I agree.
Buffalo and Boston won tonight so now I’m really glad we pulled this game out of the fire.
THe Original 24 Cups
How does Boston win games?
Blitzen – Good line! We’ll call it a draw.
The Original 24 Cups
Well he did get an assist on the goal so I’ll give him a pass for now.
Price stole nothing.
Vokoun screwed his team with a really bad goal (just shows it can happen to anyone)
Price was solid and we got a lucky bounce in a game we probably deserved to win.
I just disagree with Kovy. His goal was timely, but in the last 3-4 games he has been slipping back into his bad habits of last year.
Price was great tonight was he not?
i watched that game (by accident – didn’t realize habs were playing tonight); they looked great against pittsburgh.
I’m pretty sure Higgins did score tonight though.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
1. Price
2. Vokoun
3. Markov (he gets a pass on the deflection)
The Original 24 Cups
Saw it more clearly on th replay. Changed it.
It is time to do something, either you play or you trade Ryder. This crap can’t continue, or can it? Carbonneau is definately biased for some reason, but I don’t know why. Betcha he goes to Boston for a 6 rounder. Julien would love to have Ryder in his lineup.
___________________________________________
It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!
AK46 was a healthy scratch more than once earlier on in the season. He started playing like he deserved a spot in the lineup, and Carbo had no choice but to keep him in.
I don’t think you guys realize this, but Ryder is already gone. That is why he isn’t playing, has nothing to do with Carbo’s dislike of him.
Sitting Ryder again?? I don’t understand this…
Carbo gave AK46 chance after chance before he finally broke out…keep Ryder in there that line will pick it up eventually…Higgins has been playing just as badly as Ryder has lately.
GO HABS GO!
I completely disagree. Higgins is a solid player who brings much more to the table than scoring. Ryder is a one-dimensional scorer, plain and simple. If he didn’t score goals, he wouldn’t be in the NHL. Even in years past, Ryder was usually invisible until he scored.
If Huet plays like what he did in the last two games….
It’s not the ammount per year that would be the stunbling block, but the length of contract that Huet would want. He’s UFA at age 32. Do you think that Bob would was to sign him for more than 2 years?
.

>>Lundqvist: $6.5 million per season for six seasons. Would have been a UFA.
I have Lundqvist in my pool, and I can safely say that he is vastly overrated. As good as his stats seem to be, he throws away as many games as he steals. He is streaky and inconsistent.
If that is the going price for a so-so goalie, I can’t imagine we can afford what Huet would command on the open market.
As an aside: Osgood got pulled so quick from the game the other day that his weekly GAA is 20.5. I’m thinking Detroit is going to be on the lookout for a more reliable backup…
You know why Gainey is a great GM? He traded for Cullimore bought him out and then has him draw the deciding penalty in OT? Brilliant Bob!!! He also engineered Samsonov to Carolina so he could score the winning goal against the Bruins….last night..amazing!!!
He’s like…..a master chess player. Always thinking a few moves down the road.
A win is a win is a win!! Glad to see the Habs salvage two on this road trip.
I guess we need to realize too that these were the AHL Panthers we were facing. But who cares :hyper:
There’s a difference between being optimistic and being high
florida loses 4-0.
koivu tells jokinen how nice it is the em-tea-el. Jokinen sees how lovely he’ll fit in alongside his finnish brethren and he will command a trade that will hopefully take brisebois off our hands.
How’s that for optimism?
AGREED!!
We have a shortage of defensemen with NHL, and especially playoff, experience. (still hate breezer).
What we aren’t short of, at all, are forwards who can’t score. Toss in REALLY soft defensive play, and you have pine written all over Ryders ass.
Anything other crisis i can help you with?
I think Carbo’s “dislike” for Ryder is not actually a dislike. I think it is very similiar to Jan Bulis a few years ago, and Craig Rivet last year. Those guys were benched when it seemed someone else should have been. The reason was because they were not in the team’s future plans. This may be a similair situation to those.
Here are my two cents regarding the goalie and trade deadline situations. I know it is a complete long shot at this point for the Habs to win the Cup, therefore I do not see the harm in taking a gamble and trading Huet. Price showed tonite he at least has the potential to be a very good goalie. If, and only if, Huet has some trade value, then I think we should package him with maybe another player for some sort of roster upgrade. Whether it is a top six forward, or a shutdown player. I just think that if Huet will be gone anyways, then why not take the gamble? What’s the worst that can happen? Price faulters and we lose in the first round. Compare that to losing in the 2nd round to Ottawa with Huet. I say take a gamble…Which I actually don’t think is much of a gamble at all…
But man why does the NHL bother with teams in Florida? That place sounded like a funeral parlor, complete with melancholic organ. And then they put a coach there who’s system is about as interesting as a funeral march.
They put teams in Florida so that snowbirds, who can’t get tickets to games back home, can catch there favourite teams, while vacationing down there, at a reasonable price.
One other thing to be thankful for: not resigning Souray who is now out for the season with his shoulder season. His numbers in 26 games with the Oilers this season: three goals and 10 points with 59 penalty minutes. At least it was only $5.6M dollars.
In hindsight, a first rounder from EDM would have been nice for Souray last year.
Who’s this positive spirit channeling through Timo? LOL
They won the game, for the love of God.
i’m watching the game on the panthers feed, they just advertised 2 tickets, two pizzas, two cokes & parking for $50
with the style of hockey they play, the price is about right. you need the two cokes to keep you awake.
That would set us back 250, and on the lower end of the ticket scale. And we can’t sign a UFA. I’m telling you, the American owners accepted the cap only recently because they knew the Canadian dollar would soon be at par and we would be able to go after them with more $$$!!!
I can’t believe it…we finaly stole one.
off-topic, but is there anyone who enjoys scoring more than Ovechkin? lol he’s fun to watch.
love that guy.
Which is why I don’t know why he chose to stay in Washington. I would have thought that guy would’ve killed to play in a mecca like Detroit or Montreal. Imagine the crowds there going ape shiot.
This is getting contagious but, tee!
Somehow I don’t think that was their vision
Might as well have been.;)
But I thought it was to showcase the game to Amer….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Although, in fairness, Tampa has been #2, or at least, in the top five, in attendance, over the last few years.
I’m not saying Americans are idiots but hockey is prolly lower than beach volleyball on their sports priority list.
just got a spam email that said ‘Scarlett Johansson loves men with huge equipment’, do they mean goalie pads?
Nice to see Price FINALLY steal a game for us.
What is with this obsession with comparing Leclair and Ryder.
Dont you guys get it? Even when Ryder was scoring goals, he wasn’t a “good NHLer”. Now that he’s not scoring goals, at all, we’re supposed to believe he deserves a spot in the lineup for his world class defensive play?
Ryder is gone. Gone gone gone.
I bet you said the same about Leclair.
Ryder will come back to haunt us.
Im really dissapointed with the play of Lapierre lately, no jump to his play at all. He should be hitting people left and right and instigating things, hes just floating.
Higgins is back
_______________________________________
CH is for Chris Higgins
That’s one point more than it looked like the Canadiens were going to get for a while there. That’s a character come-back in the third. Let’s strap in for OT/SO.
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
Man, lets get the 2nd point and get the hell out of florida.
Can we say Higgins is back?…2goals in 2 nights….
Nice, good move by koivu to draw the penalty. Cmoooon, put the puck in the net now!
Koivu just made up for his 3rd period penalty
Ol Mick is definitely putting his stamp on this game.
Saku has played a heck of a game today.
Cullimore.. GONE FOR 2 or LESS.
look at that
koivu DRAWS a hooking penalty in the offensive zone…
4 on 3, who’s Carbo going to put out?
Brisebois, Smolinski, Dandenault and Latendresse?
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
ooh, Smokey! we need to shut em down 4-on-4
Smolinski…is this some kind of sick joke?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
What a hole Vokoun left for Kovy!
YES!!!!!!!!!!
i saw that all the way, what a goal by KOVY!
BACK ON TRACK BABY!!!!
WOOT!!!!!!!!
I’ve made a huge mistake…
w00t
KOVY MARRY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It ain’t a habs game until kovalev scores. Take this point and run!
LOVE it!!!
and my wife too…
Kovy knows how to shoot
anybody know a site where i can watch the game online
http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=6329&part=sports
You will most likely have to download Sopcast…just google that and download the software. You should be good to go.
man that win was a relief. i’m in such a good mood, i’d have a beer with F-F-S and discuss the back-to-back game situation or the nhl refereeing conspiracy.
I’m really curious about Philly’s power play. They DID take over the #1 spot for an overnight stay in the drunk tank and, I want to know why. Call it ego but, the Habs power play SHOULD NOT be second behind the likes of Philly!!
I’m guessing Hammer will be back. We’ll get to bounce Brière off the boards two games in a row. I like our chances too.
Ups and downs are normal for a young team and tonight’s game was a character building exercise.
let’s hope we don’t see too much of it on Sat.
hopefully we can say the same for the breezer
tough crowd.
Come on Showey, he did nothing wrong today.
:polite clap:
well florida owed us for the steal they got in OT at the beginning of the season
What’s a good post-game discussion without someone hating on BreezeBy…
LOL. ok, that’s my cue to call it a night
i know, i’m tough on him. I just hope carbo does the right thing when hamr comes back. Think of what is best for the team, not for his buddy or his incentive laden contract.
If Edmonton moves Roloson, we better trade them Huet and get something for him because he isn’t going to resign with us and I wouldn’t want him to at a salary of 4 million +
The only other option I see is Nashville in the West.
sorry, i got here late but LMAO.
especially for 3 years or so
Allrightythen, what happens to Ryder?
I say he stays around and walks after the year. I also say someone will massively overpay for him as a UFA but only for a couple of years.
Pretty sure he will.
Not sure we’d get that much for him right now. I say he also walks after this year but he won’t get big bucks. The guy can stand on his head for games on end but then give up momentum-killing goals at the absolute worst times.
But…but…
What about his STATS?!?!
On the last goal, Kovy often shoots high near post and I’m thinking that was what Vokoun was thinking so he drifted and put himself out of position. Nice change of pace by Kovy to go low far post.
How about Huet and Ryder for Carter and a pick?
I guess we would need to look at who would want him? He’s not young so building around him is prolly out. And for a team with Stanley Cup potential, his mental lapses are prolly worrisome.
He HAS stolen games for us in the past but I think we need to look at the future. And with the salary cap, I don’t think Bob will be able to afford an expensive goalie who might be a back up by the mid-point next year. I think he’ll sign a solid back up or just sign/promote Halak and have him split games with Price. I wouldn’t mind that one bit.
Haha, I know we have to deal him! I’m on the same fence you are on
We won’t get Carter. I don’t think we’ll get anyone. Might get some middling draft picks for some of our surplus…
I thought Carter was known to be a solid 2 way player with some hands. Sounds like something we could use. For assets who will not be back with us next year, it would make sense?
Awww crap, Clarke isn’t their GM anymore..Damn, I forgot LOL
Other than the fact that Philly already has 2 good goalies…This would be great
2? They have a half decent one in Biron, but he hasn’t been playing well. Nittymaki just sucks.
I suggested a couple of days ago on another thread that we should trade Huet + Ryder for Rollie, Stoll, Schremp, 1st rounder. but i got knocked for it, and anaheim owns edmonton’s first rounder so that’s out of hte question.
rollie is contracted to 3.5 million this year and next, but he’ll be making less than huet next year for sure. Stoll and schremp will add up to about ryder’s salary…if schremp plays in the NHL.
That’s what i hear. Apparently they ARE shopping him.
Who knows…maybe he’ll test the waters, fail and offer Gainey a discount. Which would then beg the question: do we want Huet or Halak? I’d take my chances on Halak if Price finishes the year off reasonably well.
But Roloson sucks hard and they don’t have any first rounders. Trading them huet is contingent on them trading rolly elsewhere!
Why the heck are you trying to trade our only decent goalie? Price is not ready. Period.
I love how bipolar this city is when it comes to hockey
Well, that’s a rap for me boys!
(Booking time for the Stanley Cup Parade)
What do you mean?
yea they are but for a big player….which we won’t send over to them. They’re using him as bait for sundin.
Because he will not resign with us next year for less than 4 mil. In that case it is not worth it and we should get something for him rather than just letting him go. Maximize our assets. We can always pick up a veteran goalie for a one year deal if need be.
Site is lagging :S double post.
Don’t worry about what the Flyers will do with him, just make the deal and laugh. LOL
I’m of the opinion that Nittymaki sucks. Biron hasn’t been playing great by any means.
Sundin seems intent on staying in Canada though.
huet is the best goaltender in the world straight up. We won’t be able to afford the $8 million he will command at the end of the season. I will absolutely hate to see him leave.
NOT!
wouldn’t pay him a cent more than 3.5 million. He wants more? he can go find another team.
Even if Price isn’t ready, Halak is *right there*! He was ready last year.
That easy eh? Lots of solid goalies just floating around the league for the picking.
You guys make it sound so easy.
Anyways if Lunqvist is worth 6.75 then Huet is easily worth 4 mil and we should pay it.
The numbers reflect that he is not. I’ve watched every single habs game this year and I prefer Huet over Price any day of the week for the time being.
Price had a horrible set of games right before he was sent down, he then did pretty poorly down there for a couple games before coming back to being considered “solid” again. Huet has had a bad stretch, also Hammer has been out and the team has played like ass in front of him.
Im a big believer in Save% and Huets has been top 10 all year, and still is even after his last couple rough games.
Price will be the guy eventually, but not yet.
Lundy isn’t worth 6.75, the Rangers are just dumb.
Huet is not worth 4 and we should never pay it.
BTW Lundy has started more games in each of his 3 seasons than Huet ever has.
…
I confused how that has any relevance on how good the guy is or isnt, or what hes worth….
But good point.
It is a good point. A starting goalie has to be able to start at least half the games in a season don’t you think? Too bad Huetty has never been able to. He’s another Jeff Hackett, whom I loved.
For 4 mil a year, he damn sure better be a starting goalie!
I agree hes gotta start more. Lets be honest here…
First year he was with the team he split time with Theodore and Huet was arguably, at the time, one of the best goalies in the league for the ~35 games he played.
Last year he was still good, but not -as- good, and again we had Abischer who was actually pretty good for the first 30 games of the season. He was also injured.
This year I feel hes been mostly good, with the odd bad game. I mean he is 20-11-6 with a good SV% (top 10 all year). We’ve also tried to get Price into games, its not like Price has been in because Huet has blown.
I just dont see why 4 mil is so out of the question for this guy. Maybe 3.25-3.5 is more realistic considering your point about games played.
I’m not saying he is a horrible goalie and I understand your points. The last year Theo was here Huet saved our butts. But that was then and this is now.
He’s going to want a long term deal which doesn’t make sense for us. We need to spread our money around elsewhere. That plus his history of getting injured or not being able to solidify his hold on the #1 spot brings me to the conclusion that signing him is not in our best interest is all. This being the case I want to get something of value from him.
Well I guess we will see.
I like the idea of Huet long term alot better then a return to the Jablonski, Thibault, Hackett days.
This team needs good goaltending. We are so young and make so many mistakes, I honestly think that a veteran goalie like Huet is the perfect guy to have in there. You put Price in (which we did) and the team plays like crap in front of him we’re back to sending him to the Farm to get his marbles straightened out again.
Perhaps having Halak up and starting him a bunch of times down the stretch would be more helpful in figuring out where we stand. If we could platoon both Price and Halak, maybe that would work for us were Huet to be dealt.
I agree big time, one stat i looked up earlier is that last season between the whl, world juniors, and the ahl price played 82 games in total and still had the ability to carry a team to ahl title. Huet hasn’t played 82 games in 2 years never mind one. How many goalies at any level has played 82 games in one year? Brodeur, luongo maybe, kipper? Carey is not at that level but the guy is a proven workhorse and thrives when playing often. I say give the ball to price and halak.
Wow. Thats alot of hate you’ve got seething under there.
I don’t really need to try and convince you of anything, the numbers speak for themselves and they always average out in the end. Even with the recent rough stretch Huet is still the better goalie and by far.
End of story.
He said he hated the city and especially the media in Ottawa.
in a nutshell he pretty much hated the media
I know huet will never be the guy who leads us, thats why i showed the numbers about who has the potential to be a true number one. A guy who can carry a heavy workload and win high pressure games
He said that Ottawa is a shallow one line team with suspect goaltending. He also said that Ott will not win a cup with their lineup and he is happy as hell to go play with Brindamour who has more toughness in his left pinkie then the Sens and Habs have put together.
You hit it right on the head when you say Halak should get more starts. Management has really missed the ball on this one as he didn’t even get a start when he was up.
Your second line is where we differ on opinion. I’m worried Huet is like Hackett, a goalie with great talent but is just unlucky or can’t handle the heavy load.
Fair enough. We agree then, that we agree on some things and differ on others.
Thank goodness for the bad ice in Florida. I’m glad Higgy got his second goal in as many games, and I hope this will open the floodgates for him. The 3rd and 4th lines were largely invisible in my opinion – Streit is too good to be this underutilized and Lats has scoring potential but needs a more offensive center than Max.
OB again looked liked he belonged. Captain K had one of his better games (he looked involved, but also took a pathetic breakaway shot and a late 3rd period hooking penalty).
Kovalev is solidifying his place as the team’s player of the year. He not only notched the winner, he stayed back at the entrance to the dressing room, to give the players pounds. That’s a scorer and a leader.
Sounds good to me
You’re right, Streit was way too tentative on the PP tonight. He needs to make quick decisions and shoot the puck w/authority.
“By far”?

I honestly don’t care. There are much smarter people then you and I running the Habs and I have a feeling they’ll make the best decision.
His salary per year won’t be the problem; it’ll be the length of the deal that’ll keep Huet fron wearing our jersey next year. Huet is 32 years old going into his UFA; if you think that he’s going to take a two year deal (which means that he’d be 34 the next time UFA rolls around for him) then you know something about free agents that I sure don’t. This is his prime time to make out like a bandit and get as many years as possible for as high a salary as he can get… neither of which he’d get in Montreal. Deal Huet now, and sign a veteran goalie for one year at a reasonable salary to be a mentor and the fall-back guy should Price/Halak falter. Someone “like” a Belfour might be the kind of guy that you look at.

We’re in a great situation at the moment where the 3-4 million saved on Huet can be used to sign a bonafide UFA. Why spend that kind of money for a backup/mentor. Carey has proven he can carry the load and is best in the clutch. We needed to steal a purse errrr I mean a game tonight down in Florida and the kid came through.
Price should be given every chance to be no 1 and trade Huet at the deadline. That way at least we get value for a UFA who probably won’t sign for less than 3 years and less than 4 million. Tough to take a hometown discount when you’re 32.
HA, 500th comment. Normally I’d be at work but things are pretty bad in good ole Freddy Beach, N.B with all the freekin ice on the roads and flooded streets. Happy to see the boys pull it out in OT. GO HABS GO!!!
A little tip of the hat : Carbo goes the whole nine yards in his protection of boy Carbo but last night having him on RW may be telling us something for the future. He’ll probably say it was for defensive purposes but i read it a different way. Moves of Lats in the past was a key to the thinking of Carbo for the future games but now i think it’s for the deadline and if i were Ryder (RW) and Dandy (RW) i’ll be getting all local matters cleared up immediately.
It’s a pleasant surprise seeing the second line continue their improved play into the 2nd period.
i missed the whole 2nd period…had to go pick up my daughter
i take it by all the blogs that it was still lacking a je ne sait quois
Man, Vokoun is robbing us this period… but he’s seeing everything – we need traffic in front of him and/or get to some rebounds!
Who teaches this team how to shoot?
We make opposing goalies look like superstars because we shoot it right at the goalie (see last night’s last ditch effort that was an “incredible” save by ramo.
If you shoot at the goalie’s chest, it wont go in. If you take a halfhearted slap shot from the the hashmarks, it wont go in.
This team takes very poor shots that are easy saves for even a minor leaguer. This is disappointing, and bryan smolinski ought to be waived.
Edit: Boone – Vokoun is not unbeatable. Our shots are just not hard to stop.
Why can’t Komisarek even hit the net?
Even Scott Stevens had a little O-flair once in a while…
nice effort Koivu… but absolutely no finish – right at him!
that 5 second shot of the cheerleaders was the most exciting thing ive seen so far.
Has Koivu scored a goal via wrap around? I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen him get stoned like that.
I’d like to see a reply of those Florida cheerleaders! hehe
In another note… if i had a dollar for every Hab who missed an open net. I’d be a rich rich man.
why is it we make every goalie we play against look like Marty Broduer?
The only good thing I see to night is the cheerleaders.
Anyone else here the satan metal played in the background?
Canadiens defensive zone strategy when they’re in trouble: Ring it around the boards and say a Hail Mary.
That’s a great example of a shot that if it had been on Huet, would scare me.
WHAT A BAD PLAY!
WHy is Higgins shooting that puck?
*Yawwwnnn*
Wow, what a Breezerian pass by Komi!
Please!!
i’ve had enough of the brisbois bashing.
let’s get him off the ice for good and put an end to all this already.
what a needless penalty Kotso!@!! c’mon ridiculous!
Laffs and Buffalo are scoreless half way through the game. Boston is ahead 2-0 over Pittsburgh.
The Original 24 Cups
Price looking good…
When was the last time a team scored a PP goal with Plek and Kovalev out there?
Saku!!
That’s the best you could come up with?
Our HABS do not look like a team that wants to win. They lose this game, they miss playoffs.
Come on already and play some #@$!ing hockey!!!!!
Wow, Gorges really wanted to get it out there!!!
Would it kill Koivu to score?? Good leaders lead by ex…*yawwwnn*
there’s no way were beating vokoun tonight.
haha
Jesus christ koivu, what happened to you, you used to be wicked on the breakway, and have a great shot. That was just sad to watch. And now gorges with that stupid mistake. Ugh.
You guys see how fast Price’s legs move? He is pure energy!
Komi standing in front of the net and NOT molesting the opposing player. Something wrong with this picture?
That’s all Boone has to say about his man Gorges shooting the puck out for a penalty. He has been much harsher before on certain players for doing the same thing.
Getting … sleepy.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
we need leaders to bring us out of this slump… and Koivu definitely has had several chance tonight to do just that – but he’s lost his touch – plain and simple – not the guy to look to anymore…
I think we should fire him.
I mean, the Habs are playing WAY better than they were supposed to. How dare he attempt to bring us beyond mediocrity!
So .. sleepy … *snarf* *snooze*
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Now Lappy is blocking our own shots. Will wonders ever cease?
Wanna bet?
*sigh* only in montreal can it LITERALLY take a week to go from cup contender to basement feeder.
The Habs are playing badly of late because they are missing Hammer, plain and simple. Remember all that touting “best free agent aquisition”? That means something on the ice.
How many more points do we have to have this season, at this point, for us to not be mediocre? Just curious.
the florida announcers just called it the save of the game???????????
That’s what happens when you keep hitting them in the crest.

I agree, but playing like this without one player, when 8th is 5 points back…
Seriously, they lose this game…I am going to end pushing the “Panic Button”
Not true. I hate that rule and never knock guys for breaking it.
Mike – I mentioned that a few days ago and was totally shot down. It is NOT an infraction. Treat it as an icing and don’t allow the team to change players.
The Original 24 Cups
Oh yeah? Well, it ain’t over till “the pleasantly underslim person of the female gender” sings. How’s that for PC?
Oh man this game is boring… seriously. No wonder the building is half full, of Habs fans no less.
I would not pay 50 bucks for two tickets, 2 pizzas, and 2 beers if the game I had to watch was this one!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Habs have had zero puck luck lately. When was the last time we scored off a deflection on an opposing player? It pretty much never happens. We seem to get screwed with one of those every game though.
As usual one of the most boring and useless coaches in the league is trying his best to put me to sleep (no, not Carbo).
Are the Bruins on the schedule any time soon?
March 20 and 22
The only good thing I can see from this game is that Price has played very well. Florida’s goal was a fluke.
I agree. Looks very very solid. I’d say it’s his best game so far.
Price has looked great, hope he gets the start on saturday. I don’t know why carbo doesn’t leave kovy and markov out for the full 2 mins on the powerplay.
He probably wants Washington to be HIS team and it is. If he goes to Detroit, he’ll be a star but it won’t necessarily be his team. It’s still Nick Lidstrom and company’s team. Hell, it’s Ken Holland’s team.
The Washington Capitals are Alexander Ovechkin. Alexander Ovechkin is the Washington Capitals. I think he likes it like that.
yes he does look great tonight…
Price is ICE
hey guys and gals, just got in.. looks like a typical jacques martin game from the posts… how’s that sergei/koivu/higgins line looking? did carbo stick with it?
Their our best line tonight. Playing well.
Kovy is trying to do too much, he should pass once in a while.
3rd and 4th lines are pretty much non-existent. That tell the story for you?
sopcast is offline for tonight…
download the tvu player instead…anyways your not missing much lol.
Wow, more than a month away :S
Well if Karma exists then we will steal this game with a minute to go, on a BS penalty, like Florida did to us earlier in the season.
Yeah, Right…..
I dont see a Florida team yet their captain taking a bad penalty.
One in the o-zone on the pp? Not going to happen.
thanks Teach. at least we have 2 lines now.
The only way I see us scoring is if the cats get the second goal then maybe will get the third.
So frustrating to think we cant hold a 3 goal lead midway in the second yet they can hold a 1 goal late in the first.
I am very concerned with what is going to happen late this month and early next. When you can only score 2 goals against last place teams there is not much to be excited about with Buffalo,NJ, SJ, Phx,LA, and Anaheim on our plate.
Don’t like rumours but hey, this game is boring so why not. This is the last night that Hossa plays at home before the trade deadline (he already has a goal and an assist). If Atlanta is going to trade him then it would make sense to do it while they are on the road.
Personally, I wouldn’t trade him until the 26th to maximize every point in the standings he could bring the Thrashers and to also up the price as teams get desperate at the trade deadline. Food for thought on tomorrow’s blog.
We can still win this game. Need to create lots of action in front of Vokoun and get a goal that’s not pretty. Gotta get your noses dirty boys!
The Original 24 Cups
See, teachers can make mistakes too
*they’re*
forgiven
Teach – I caught it but decided to let it go.
24 Cups – 4
Teacher – 2
The Original 24 Cups:-)
Well,.. I saw Higgins “stop skating” behind Koivu on that breakaway. He could’ve followed up for the rebound or in this case, a stalled puck in the crease. Vokun’s givin rebounds away like candy tonight. They HAVE to see that? Seems to me like some of the players are unfocused because of the trade deadline. No knows who’s going. At this rate BG can ship ‘em all out. No chemistry whatsoever right now. I’m not disappointed with the team, just the inconsistency.
too bad the last 10 games of the season aren’t against the Bruins.
Too bad the last time I remember a Hab doing something exciting, he spent the night in the tank holding a purse.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
These clearing it over the glass penalties drive me nuts. Usually it happens with someone already in the box. How god@#$*%!% hard is it to shoot a puck down the ice anyway?
GO HABS.
memo to Streit: You’re not Markov.
for the love of god please score on the powerplay, ah yes smolinski is out there, awesome
the good news? I have Vokoun in my fantasy league.
Man does this team ever look brutal tonight. Zero snap on passes, shots or hitting. Everything looks sloppy as hell.
Mick Magoo, by far the worst Ref in the entire league without any doubt whatsoever. Guy pretty much makes sh*t up as he pleases.
are you kidding me?
unbelievable, has anyone else seen that call made all year?
I do believe that’s a first for me. He got a penalty for intruding into the face-off circle?
all year? I’ve never seen that before in my life!
Brutal call…
In have never see a call like that.
Actually thats called an “incredulous” look.
i guess mcgeough felt bad about giving florida actual penalties and evened it up
The rule is that if both players (the original center and then the guy who replaces him) get kicked out of the circle, it’s a penalty for delay of game.
But Kovy was BS…that’s Mick MaGoo, or however you spell the name of the worst ref in the league, for ya.
Man, if Bettman fires him, I’ll take back every bad thing I’ve ever said about him
Is it me or O’Byrne is always on his ass? …
he’s playing good, but I feel he’s always down…

I would be willing to take back 95% of what I’ve said, but yeah. Terrible ref.
… any minute now would be a good time to start playing some hockey.
Lapierre!! What a sniper… *sigh*
Let me guess Mike’s next post…..
Another PP, gotta score?
I’ve made a huge mistake…
another power play, leave kovy and markov out for the full 2 mins please
Ok…3rd PP of the 3rd period.
I’m invoking the rule that third time’s the charm, and seeing how it’s the 3rd period, I expect a goal immediately.
the guy couldn’t score in a women’s prison
Decent effort tonight against a team that always causes problems for the Habs.
I’m sure I’ve said this before, but you’ve gotta love the P.A. guy whose day job is obviously announcing Monster Truck shows.
Please.
Score.
pretty please?
Your wish is their command. About time we got a freaking break!
There you go. All the skill in the world and if the other team decides to play you tough and your players are not willing to battle it out, you have zero chance in this league.
And we finally get lucky. w00t!
Wow Vokoun must be one of the worst goalies in the league…what a soft goal.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
HAHAAHAHHAHAH
I was about to write a post bitching…man, amazing
COME ON!!!
YEAH!!!
I’ve made a huge mistake…
thank you
wow, he stops the hard shots and lets in the easy ones!!!!! lesson learned
What was that about a fluke goal?
who says you need to win faceoffs to score?
Now this is going to get interesting.
Does Higgy have his groove back? I hope so YAH!!!
“Vokoun is very hot, and it will take a operfect shot or a fluke to beat him.”
-Mike “Don’t call me Kreskin” Boone
and to carry the momentum, carbo comes out with the fourth line.
Higgs is now on a big scoring streak. I knew that goal last night would get him going.
Higgins is back…

They didn’t do a bad job, but I don’t understand. Do the Florida wives keep their purses behind the end boards or something?
Wow notice right away there been a change in the team? Laps all of a sudden doing some good board work in the O-Zone with Dandy and Lats. We haven’t had that all game.
David Booth (10) looks and skates an awful lot like Richard Zednik.
I love how Price is playing tonight!
GREAT save.
Mick Magoo: terrible vision, horrible judgement calls, bad temper, no patience, can’t skate.
There is no union for refs right? No tenure…they do have to keep on earning their right to play..right?
it is so nice to see Price playing this well
Price is very solid tonight. I wonder if he even HAS a pulse Boone!
Man almost crapped my pants there…great save by the kid
oh man….
Dammit. The Koivu Hook.
Panthers always drawing BS penalties at the end of the game.
typical
Another reason to love Price.
i can barely watch. aaaaaaaa
Koivu strikes again!
Thats 75 penalty minutes for Captain K this year.
say it ain’t so…saku for hooking? nah.
Cue Smokes, kostops and whoever their center is, I have seen him so rarely I don’t know who it is.
Sens lost in OT Laffs down 1-0
How is that not interference FFS?
Goddamn league.
Great, now we’re gonna hear Huet for Zetterberg trade rumours!
Any word on Hammer yet?
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
I’m guessing its a no go for the hammer. Nice piece though, i wish carbo would read it.
I’m Optimistic
tHEREE’S smokeyy!
Markov does that waaaay too much
Smokes looks like he is sorry if he deflects an opposing team’s pass.
Well theres a point atleast. Now maybe we can see a hockey game.
how about this for 4 on 4: Markov with the Pleks line, 3 forwards and one D.
Why not? couldn’t hurt, then the Koivu line with Streit on D.
That’s not a dream! That’s a nightmare!
I feel the same way. I had a dream we totally collapsed as a team and Leafs made the playoffs and we didn’t.
ok. well, at the very least, we won’t have to stare at 67 points tomorrow morning. here’s to 69!
Predictions???
Alex Kovalev ~ “I still have four fingers left”
absolutely optimistic.
Mike, let’s hope the only cossacks bent on mayhem tonight are AK27, AK46 and SK74!
If it gets to the shootout, we should bring in Huet!
I just hope Breezer isnt out for the OT. He pinches at the absolute worst times.

As some already mentioned. Price needs to play more to get comfortable with the NHL game. The above post is a story of the past when a coach took a chance AND PAYED OFF HUGE.
This is the time of prohecy as long as we give PRICE a chance to fullfill it.
Habs should lose tonight, but slowly they will right this ship over the next couple of games. It’s going to be a tough month. Does that count as optimism?
Deja Vu all over again?
Something really neat is about to happen.
Watch if you don’t believe.
If there was ever a night for Price to steal a game, tonight would be the best night. The team is slumping and they have a horrible record against the Panthers. I don’t want to get into this Huet vs Price thing, because I don’t think it should exist. However, I seriously doubt Huet (as much as I love him) will be back next season, so Price needs some starts and he needs to win them in order to solidify his position as the starter next season.
So I went on the Mtl. Canadiens site and clicked on the ‘ask Eddy’ box and well I asked Eddy if he could shed some light on the Habs sucking issue. He never responded but I guess Eddy’s got more important issues to deal with. So I turned to a more reliable source, the guy who lives down the street. He wears a hat made out of aluminum foil and smells a bit like chicken soup and Windex. He claims that with all the attacks on Brisebois for sucking, Gainey must’ve called in Dr. Phil to talk to the team. He believes that Dr. Phil explained how Brisebois was feeling alienated and that others saw him as Carbo’s pet. Dr. Phil went on to say that to fix the problem, the rest of the team would have to lower their game and play on Brisebois’ level. In psychology parlance, I believe the term is to “dumb down”. If you look at the play of Lapierre, Higgins, Koivu etc..lately, I can see how the team has followed Dr. Phil’s advice. Brisebois is apparently thrilled with the team’s cooperation and is actually enjoying the game again. When asked if the team will start winning, Dr. Phil said, “It’s not about winning, it’s about having fun”. So now we know.
Our Habs are a friggin Tim Bits commercial.
Boone, he was actually set to be a RFA.

Hey we scored.
I don’t think a “shake up” is necessary per se, but I would advise making some minor movse that can help us short-term only if won’t be too costly (e.g., acquiring Gratton), and making more significant moves only if they add to the core youth we currently have (e.g., acquiring Lombardi).
I’m hopeful for this season, and of course we all want to see the Habs go deep into the playoffs and win the Cup. But, I’d be satisfied if we built a strong, deep foundation that can compete year after year for many seasons.
He still has four fingers!!!
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
(only second time this season they came back after being down going into the third)
I F’ING LOVE THAT SHOT.
YESSSSSSS!!!! Glad to beat a clap trap team!!!!
And we gain a point on the Sens!
For a guy who was in such good position all game long (Vokoun), he sure was out in left field on that goal.
And it was never in doubt!
