The Canadiens finally broke into the W column with a thrilling OT conquest of the Ottawa Senators.
The Habs roared back from a 3-0 deficit keyed by two Max Pacioretty goals and an equalizer, in the dying seconds, by Scott Gomez.
Erik Cole cinched the win in the Shootout.
The Gomez line, with Max-Pac and phenom Brendan Gallagher, was the Canadiens best, with 19 of the team’s 33 shots – plus two posts by Pacioretty.

Interesting chat with Dany Dubé after the game.
In addition to being impressed by Brendan Gallagher, the 98,5 FM analyst liked what he saw on the back end from Jarred Tinordi, Alexei Yemelin and Raphael Diaz.
Mark this down for future reference: A pressbox consensus is forming on Diaz:
He’s better than Yannick Weber.

Video of Brendan Gallagher:
Max Pacioretty:
Jacques Martin:
A fitting end to a very entertaining hockey game in Ottawa.
Filatov: Save
Wide
Max-Pac: Wrister shelf!! What a night
Spezza: Goal
Gallagher: Wide
Daniel F.: Wide
And Cole wins it!!
The Canadiens roared back from a 3-0 deficit, with Scott Gomez tying it up in the dying seconds with the goaltender on the bench.
And Max is back … big time.
Gomez was good, too.
And Brendan Gallagher did not look out of place with the big boys.
19 shots on goal for that line.

Not that he’s not ok, but Gomez skating doesnt look 100% he normally flies but right now looks very average speed
OMG did he just drive to the net :S hell must have frozen over
It’s the pre-season and you try things, no?

Have to say, Gomez looks hungry.

I’ll order him a cheeseburger when he gets back to Montreal.
Gomezcanhazcheeseburger? Um, no.

Inconceivable. The puck must look like a thousand dollar bill tonight.
Cole, Gomez, Patches: a LINE.
He’s back!
I have to say Pacman Gomez and Cole looks really really good… better than Plex cammy and cole IMO
Ca sent le comeback!

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Patches has had just a great game. He’s gonna be fun to watch this season.
It was only a matter of time for patches. He’s been great.
Nice play by Weber at the blue line.
PATCHES!
MaxPac is back!
patches!!!!!!
If you are worried about pre-season, remember that the Bruins/Canucks went 4-8-1 last pre-season and were -11 in goal differential.
The teams with the most points last pre-season?
Toronto and Calgary.
w00t Patches!

Trade Price!!!!! Get back Halak!!! Make E1 the head coach!! Cats and dogs living together!!!!
This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions!
LOL
How come the alerts are so behind I just got a alert right now it is 2-0 sens why
I thought Ottawa was supposed to suck and we were supposed to be good?
I’d love to hang with you guys tonight, but my pal has the boxed set of “Ice Road Truckers!”
This year’s preseason is like a carbon copy of last year’s.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
Michalek scores, 3-0 Ottawa.
Keystone cops out there.
Listening to the game on TEAM990 while following Boone’s blog.
Analyst’s comment “Scott Gomez was looking for the 3rd man coming in as a trailer but no one was there so he had to give it to Pacioretty” for a weak back-hand.
YES.. We talking about PRE-SEASON. And if in pre-season your guys are NOT joining in on the offense as described then again I ask the question, “What the hell is being done in training camp to develop offensive patterns-instincts by this team.
The analyst on team990 again commented on the lack of offense after 3 pre-season games.. and he IS RIGHT!
JM doesn’t allow offense. He finds it offensive.
Is that ironic or what?
I never seem JM be so patient with rookies before, he must like his vets quite well.
too early to really care about these games….if the team looks this bad in the final 2 exhibition games than there might be a bit of concern…we have to remember that the habs have been one of the worst scoring teams in the nhl the last 2 years so i am not sure that suddenly we will become a scoring machine even with the new additions and we still have our great anti scoring coach martin….
Michalek has had more knee surgeries than Markov.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
first the fire alarm, now glass problems, this Ottawa rink is being held together by duct tape.
I was gonna say hot glue, duct tape actually works.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
they should hire Red Green for rink maintenance.
I know it is pre-season. I know these games don’t count for anything. But that doesn’t negate the observation that, in these meaningless games, we look like sh*t. Slow, chasing the puck, no jump, no energy. Important game or not, in professional hockey a team should still come out to play.
The Sens just cut to commercial saying that they were “enjoying” a two-goal lead. I would too! They don’t happen that often!!!
Just put the full team together and let them come together!
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
Jeez, Martin won’t need to make cuts, injuries will do that for him…..
droppin like flies…
Tinordi looks huge out there. freakin Hall Gill huge.
Get one more aircraft carrier and you can challenge the Imperial Japanese navy in the Pacific!
This is the same Swedish referee from last year’s controversial Detroit-Montreal game right? The one who shook Johan Franzen’s hand after the game?
If they ever threw a banana at me during Sunday morning pickup, I would stand there cut it up and put it in a bowl of Special-K!
oh man, I remember that. frackin bush league NHL.
Guys, you have to chill on the lack of scoring. I’ve seen this before in support of a teammate. The Habs won’t pot one until the Gomer does!
Engvist looks slow to me, albeit big. At least Tommy Pyatt could really skate. Halpern seemed faster too
Can the Habs be any worse?
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
OK! Someone’s gotta do it … poke the elephant int he room. So I am gonna do it. I have been worried from the start of the pre-season that these Canadiens look awfully confused and disorganized as a team and show very little ‘offensive’ cohesion. And yes this is pre-season. And yes they are playing so many different lines/people.
But geez…. apart from the second game power play with P.K. things seem very much as if very little is being done to develop an offensive patterns as a team.
And based on Boone’s blog tonight it is same-o same-o and too much resemble shades of last year.
What the HELL is being ‘developed’ in training camp?
Yes, this split squad of veterans, AHLers and tryouts lacks cohesion…let us prey…
xkcd.com/904/
What?…Are you slagging Coach Martin and the system? It’s fans like you who destroy the chi of the team and cause bad vibrations in the Habosphere…dig? Whats the score anyway? We’re losing again!Oh tabanushe….fire da coach!
they think Darche hurt his knee even though he is streching his arm and pointing to the middle of his back…goofs
second place is just the first loser
lol! i saw that that was pretty funny
Man, Patches can really be a force of nature out there.
Second time Darche has shown frustration with the reffing.
stupid building..stupid team…stupid fans…i wish they would go away except its a nice close place to watch the Habs and its pretty close to being at home
second place is just the first loser
I was wondering what that sound was Boone.
If PK were playing there would be three Subbans playing in Ottawa tonight!
Preseason? Preseason? we’re talking about preseason? (in my best allen iverson voice) I think the teams that the habs have played so far have all had something to prove to their fans and thus have picked their lineups accordingly. Dallas didn’t make the playoffs, are bankrupt and dwindling fan interest, preseason is important. Buffalo has a newish owner who spent a lot of money, hence as max put it, a playoff-push roster. Ottawa sucks and their fans know it, a little preseason success is all they will talk about. The Habs, true to real preseason form dresses a line and a half with some exciting rookies splattered in.
How good is Gallagher going to be? man is he fun to watch. max is ready, he will have a big year. weber, at least tonight, looks shaky. why is nobody talking about darche possibly not making the team? i guess he does the little things right, because in two games so far he has been unspectacular.
Darche will rarely be spectacular. He may make a couple of spectacular plays during a season, but he’s on the team because he plays hard, and never takes a night off. Playing with 18 and 19 year old un-signed prospects, he’s not going to ever look great during the pre-season.
Preseason? We don’t need no stinkin’ preseason!
xkcd.com/904/
Wow. Those Rogers TV commercials look like amateur hour compared to Bell commercials.
Another rough 1st period. Good thing it’s preseason
This link seems to work for me.
http://chilisports.strikehost.info/
EDIT: sorry, it seems to have flaked out on us. Not getting picture anymore. Maybe when the 2nd period starts up.
I listened to the first period on Team 990, good to finally find some video. JustinTV came up short this time, usually you find one or two jumpy grainy links on there.
———————————
How about it NHL? No fighting, just hockey?
http://relentlessineptitude.blogspot.com/
Thanks for the link. A bit chunky but there is a picture.
AK on point? WTF
Hmm, that would have been nice late period goal, good try by ak and gallagher
2 goals on 7 shots….
Pacioretty and Gallagher came so close.
Does anybody here know when “The System” is expected to make its pre-season debut? Hal Gill and Carey Price were asking.
Shh, don’t be so impudent, The System sees all and knows all.
Thanks.. that is effing FUNNY.. I AM STILL LAUGHING!
If I had a $ for every post & open net the Habs have had in the past season & so far this season …
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
LOL @ “so far this season..” You mean all 3 pre-season games?
An open net tonight & a post.
A post or two in the 1st game.
I didn’t watch the 2nd game
LOL …
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
Nice play by AK46 — he’s been our best forward in the pre-season, which isn’t saying that much to be sure
Well it looks like the Habs will have another injury filled offensively challenged season and back into the play-offs again.
Middle of the pack mediocrity.
Time to TFG?
Troll post is trolling.
http://twitter.com/andrewberkshire
I dont think it’s trolling to see too much the patterns of last year rearing their ugly heads.
Even if it’s PRE-SEASON!
Heck can we get someone to teach this team OFFENSE 5 ON 5.
What patterns? It’s been 2 and 1/2 PRE-SEASON games.
Edit: There’s a pattern for you: Max scoring on the PP. 7 PPG in 37 games last year.
What’s that rumbling sound in the distance?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

Aim for the gas tanks!
post of the day. finally someone made me laugh.
Jury duty monday, so I’m cranky as heck and scoring ZERO goals doesn’t help.
Someone wake me when the preseason is over.
Give it a day or two. The Leafs are often the best team in pre-season.
haha. the leafs win the cup every preseason
The only thing missing is a parade down Bay Street!
God, you think getting waxed in a controlled scrimmage is bad? Try Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals!
AK46 as the PP QB???
Come on Weber, you were the third person back (late) on a PK situation
Did look weak….
Sheesh…..
FFS.
Boone, Floppin around the ice worked for Thomas last season!
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
I would remind Hickey that Melanson excels at destroying the mental game of his charges given enough time.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

Yemelin gets crosschecked in the face 6 feet from the ref in the habs zone, and the guy at the other end of the ice is the one that called the penalty. WTF?
Nice hit by Gilbert Dionne, I mean, Blunden
Boone, Price tried EH.
The same story, no Habs to take any Sen out of the play …
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
Price’s dmen kind of ran him over there, with a little help from the sens.
Wow, Price was almost in the faceoff circle
Slashed the stick out of his hand and no call ..
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
Doesn’t look like the Habs are getting any calls tonight. A few muggings, and a text book slash just seconds ago have gone uncalled.
GAME IS ON CHANNEL 456 Center ICE PACKAGE on Rogers Cable there boys. They be showing it for free.
I tried – didn’t work here in the GTA area
Guess I’m S.O.L on being able to watch the game. Oh well, I’ll stream it on Team 990 *shudder*
come on over, you can watch it at my place.
Started drinking, so driving will not be too good of an idea…. Thanks for the offer though!
For those of you unable to watch the game, here are a couple of online streams. Hope it works for you guys. Enjoy.

Thank you.

Post of the night. Thank you.
I really like Anderson. It was a huge mistake by the Panthers to get rid of him.
You mean the Avalanche? I think the Panthers had him as a backup to Vokoun, so I don’t blame them.
Panthers had him and he played really good here. Vokoun was out with an injury and Anderson was lights out good, thats when I noticed him. then he was traded to Colorado. Big mistake, considering Vokoun bolted as a UFA. They could have kept Anderson.
Considering the goaltenders they’ve had for the past decade or so (Luongo, Vokoun, Anderson), it’s almost crazy to think that the Florida Panthers haven’t made the playoffs since the Clinton administration.
I know, it’s pathetic. the team has been mismanaged badly. I never gave a crap about any team other than the habs, but I kinda have a soft spot for the Panthers since I moved here. funny stat, check out the last time the Panthers played in the Stanley cup final and the last time the habs did.
OK, the guys calling the game on Ottawa community television don’t even know the names of the Sens’ players let alone the Habs’.
The picture reminds me of watching a game in 1987 as well.
I’m listening to the game on the team 990. its WAY behind the live blog:( thanks for doing what your doing boone!
Yeah radio seems the only way to go tonight…. sucks.
Bloody post!
It is all for nothing if we don’t win the Stanley Cup!
