Get out the broom

Canadiens score 10 goals on their Florida swing and sweep the Lightning and Panthers.

Ten names on the scoresheet both nights.

And that doesn’t include Cristobal Huet, who made 40 saves in a game the Canadiens led 3-0 after five minutes.

Canadiens have taken seven of a possible 10 ponts on what is traditionally a tortuous holiday road trip.

How hot is this team?

Michael Ryder scored a goal.

That’s hot.

I want to see it….YESSS!!! they just scored again

  2. PattyBoy31 says:

Sorry, right when Ryder scored I clicked Flag as offensive on your post :P I didn’t submit it but I’m not sure…

anyways, as i was gonna say RRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEERRRR!!!!!

  3. HabsProf says:

Anyone not thrilled for Ryder? We all love the Big Newf!

  4. Steiner says:

Look at that smile on Ryders face.
    It says it all!

  5. Blitzen says:

Now try and bottle up the neutral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!

  8. Keith says:

Good start! GOAL!!! Saku set it up!

  9. gohabzzzz says:

    AWESOME!!!!!

  10. PattyBoy31 says:

I’m wondering the same, I’m trying here: http://www.channelsurfing.net/ but its not loading for me, its US only I think

  11. HabsProf says:

Can anyone tell me who isn’t better with more talented linemates?

GL may have 11 goals now but he only has 2 assists. Not trying to criticize him, but someone with those types of stats clearly needs someone to set him up.

  12. PattyBoy31 says:

Well I’m listening via NHL.com because my stupid satelitte (american) isn’t covering it. But….we’re getting starchoice + RDS soon :)

Anyways, good we scored, was it another bang in?

  13. Ed says:

Gui Gui Gui Gui Gui Gui. How many goals did Lafleur score at ages 19 & 20?

  14. Blitzen says:

    What a friggin key goal!!!!!!!!!!!!

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

  15. Mattee. says:

    GOAL GOAL GOAL!

    I Heart “System.”

  16. Habs-Kat says:

    Gui! Gui! Gui!

  17. GrimJim says:

Oh God, not the flu again. Don’t they get those frigging shots?

  18. mcLovin says:

socpast. google it. u need the sopcast player and a pc.

  19. Ian G Cobb says:

Sure hope they keep the same lines, just to see if we can build some chemistry. Watch for Ryder to start having better flow with these two linemates.

Hope Huet stayes between the pipes and does not try to handle the puck more than he is capable of. This team will be on him a lot quicker behind the net.

D has to make first pass out crisp, this squad picks off 1st passes out of the zone best in the league.

We can play with these guys no problem ! If we stay out of the box and move it out of our end with speed. Should be a good one!!

  20. gohabzzzz says:

where can I catch the game online for free?

  21. Habs-Kat says:

Thats what I think will take to break the Panthers.

  22. Ed says:

In 2006-07, Montreal’s PP was 1st in the league at 22.8%, with 86 PPG & 6 SHGA. This year it is 3rd at 23.3%, with 40 PPG & only 1 SHGA. It continues to clip along, & 2 obvious reasons are the play of Kovalev & Markov. Their scoring %’s this year are 18.0% & 16.1% respectively. Last year they were 9.1% (Kovalev) & 4.7% (Markov). What a difference a year makes.

The PK has slipped from 13th last year at 83.5%, with 69 PPGA & 17 SHG, to 24th this year at 79.7%, with 31 PPGA & 4 SHG. This is an area that needs to be improved.

  23. Blitzen says:

How about we try to make them lose their cool by slamming a few of them in the boards early on? Tell Lats, Laps, Komi, Kosto and O’Byrne to go to town early. Come on…soften up Jokinen a little. That would certainly be more fun than watching the Habs trying to go through the neutral zone…

That or just pretend you’re dumping the puck and slap it in a Panthers’ gut.

Dear Lord…I just know this will be a borefest.

  24. Keith says:

Looking forward to an exciting game…er…NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Not the G .D Panthers and Jack Martin’s smothering, like being smothered in honey defensive system? So much for it being exciting. GO HABS GO!!!

  25. PattyBoy31 says:

maybe Ryder but I think it’d kill Huets confidence and put price in a LOSE/LOSE in the shootout. I miss the Hat-trick against Toronto ryder :(

  26. The Teacher says:

    ad nauseum ad nauseum

  27. doogie says:

Ok, here’s the radical move- take out Huet out for the shootout and put Price in. He covers the bottom of the net so well and, considering Huet’s groin, Price moves better and faster laterally across the crease.

Put Ryder on the shootout list, at least he “shoots” rather than “dekes” Can you imagine how his confidence would go up if he netted one in the S.O.!!

    C’mon boys, big effort tonight!

  28. DYCSoccer17 says:

Is it me, or does Saku get the flu several times every year? I think this is the second time this year that he has had the “flu”, although he didn’t miss any games the first time.

Him and Rivet are notorious for not being able to stay healthy. After enough years of this, one has to think that hygeine is playing a part…

    Here’s to a thrilling 0-0 tie!

  29. JB_15 says:

Florida played well last night, and we came out totally flat against Tampa. First period will set the tempo. We got lucky on more than 1 goal last night, and I hope the team is focused. A win against the panthers is going to be harder to come by than against Tampa, and the team cant look as lazy as they did at the start of the previous match. Here’s to an opening 5 minutes of skating hard.

  30. Higgins21 says:

So Saku has the flu? Chipper will be in for sure.

  31. Bean says:

Unfortunately, a lot of people who’ve been through chemo and radiation have weaker immune systems, even long after they’ve been declared cancer-free.

It might have something to do with Saku regularly getting sick.

  32. RH says:

Komi can fight, but I wouldn’t consider him a heavy weight. We need a guy who can fight, score, hit, deliver babies and save little Jane’s kitten that got stuck in the tree.

  33. doug says:

I’m so thrilled for Ryder. . . I really don’t want to trade him and never have. . . I think he’s a solid citizen.

  34. doug says:

Reason number one to not play fantasy hockey. . . gotta pull your players when they’re playing against the habs or destroy some of your enjoyment.

  35. Bean says:

Haha, yeah I usually “bench” my fantasy players against the Habs ’cause I can’t handle the conflict of cheering for opposing players against our guys.

  36. ebk says:

scarier thought, that was his first even strength goal of the season. some 300 plus minutes and 34 games later.

  37. Blitzen says:

They need to come out blazing in the second….40 minutes left to play.

  38. Ed says:

The Habs won 42% of the face offs in the 1st, with Lapierre winning only 1 of 8. The others combined to win 7 of 11. O’Byrne, Dandenault & Kostopolous all played less than 3 minutes; & Gorges & Ryder played less than 4 minutes. Komisarek had the Canadiens’ only 2 hits.

  39. NLhabsfan says:

    Your right take no prisoners.

  40. Ed says:

Mr. Boone, the 2 hits were by Komisarek, not Koivu.

  41. Habs-Kat says:

You can be sure that the Panthers are going to be playing with a lot of emotion from here on in. Habs need to keep up the offense in order to crush their morale.

  42. Ed says:

Did anyone else hear Glen Healey say that Koivu’s 2 wingers had both scored in the 1st?

  43. RH says:

Yeah, this game is far from over. The Habs didn’t capitalize on any of there power play chances, after there three goal outburst, and the Panthers seem to have weathered the storm. The Panthers could skate circles around the Habs all night using there size and strength to there advantage. The Habs will desperately need a goal to get some momentum back on there side.

I hate to say it but, the Habs need a tough guy.

  44. ebk says:

Is it any coincidence that the Habs may have played their best period of the season and the following players had the followng ice-time
    Kostopoulous 2:12
    Dandenault 2:23
    Streit 1:40

maybe Carbo has realized that the fourth line should be limited minutes and to ride the other three. lets us hope.

  45. Bill says:

Why does Carbo let Komisarek fight? He’s too valuable on the ice to lose for five minutes. That’s dumb!

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  46. J.T. says:

Yeah, but he gave props to good ‘ol Steve Bouillon.

  47. Mattee. says:

I think I like to see Komi fight, it’s part of his game and I don’t think he should be held back.

    I Heart “System.”

  48. mbplekfan says:

Fighting is a big part of Komisarek’s game, it helps gain him and others room. Take it away and you lose an important aspect: intimidation.

  49. Habs-Kat says:

I’ve figured it out. Its the passing. The Canadiens are finally passing well – primarily that big stretch pass. Of course, there’s more to it than that but I think thats the biggest asset the team has – our blueliners are great at moving the puck.

  50. mbplekfan says:

The habs just have to keep on the offense and not sit back and try to win 3-2.

More stretch passes and forechecking will be needed.

  51. doug says:

    astute comment

  52. Habs-Kat says:

Healy: “Street’s got a hard shot.”

    Street?

  53. Mattee. says:

    Healy is an idiot.

    I Heart “System.”

  54. doug says:

I love Cristobal Huet. . . he should have the lion’s share of goaltending duty for the rest of the season. Enough pushing Price in prematurely; let him develop.

  55. Habs-Kat says:

    I’ll take it.

  56. Mattee. says:

    KOSTOPOULOUS!

  57. Ali says:

one of the biggest symptoms in the first that indicates whether or not the habs will play well is how accurate the passes are. If they’re off, we inevitably struggle since we continuously turn the puck over in the neutral zone, and end up stuck in our own zone for years.

  58. Mattee. says:

I just have to say, that may be the first time all season the refs have been on our side. Excellent D by the linesman.

  59. J.T. says:

PP is cold, but five-on-five is alive!

And, is it wrong of me to be more excited about Ryder scoring than Newton was when he discovered gravity?

  60. Ed says:

They said Kostopolous’ 1st in 16 games. Another player breaks his scoring drought. Good hustle by Streit.

  61. NLhabsfan says:

Put Vokoum out there GOAL!!I love it!!

  62. Ali says:

i know its not cool, but I have vokoun in my yahoo league, and im gonna get massacred in the goalie stats tommorow…make at least some saves man!

  63. Keith says:

Tom the Bomb! Now I’m feeling a little better about this game ;-)

  64. HabsProf says:

At times, it has felt like every ex-Hab has stuck it to us. Vokoun certainly did earlier this season. But that last one was a gift. Still, happy for Tom the Bomb.

  65. linp says:

Looks like Santa is on our side.

  66. Billy says:

4 goals on 8 shots. love it

  67. Bill says:

It’s not one of the better parts of his game. He’s not much of a fighter for a big guy. He’s more intimidating with his hits and his defensive play – by far – than he is with his fists.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  68. Habs-Kat says:

    Vokoun’s asleep tonight.

Or better said by Mr. Boone: He’s on acid. Lol!

  69. Ali says:

oh man, Vokoun is all at sea tonight.

  70. Ali says:

we can’t sit back. we HAVE to keep up the pressure.

  71. PattyBoy31 says:

I think he’s probably happy the teams doing well but with Lapierre and Kostopolous getting it done in the back of his mind he knows what it means. I think its bittersweet for him, in a good way

  72. HabsProf says:

Nine goals in the last game and a half – from eight different players. Wow.

  73. Habs-Kat says:

One of the prettiest was scored by Michael Ryder and the only guy to score two is Gui. Double wow.

  74. NLhabsfan says:

Vokoun needs a good beating tonight bring him down to where he belongs.Never thought that he was all that good.

  75. Ali says:

every goalie has bad games, there is no doubt that Vokoun is one of the better goalies in the league, his stats speak for themselves, they are better than Kipprusoff and which one has the better team?

  76. HabsProf says:

Sorry, I have to respectfully disagree. I was one of those that was very upset when we let Vokoun go. If I recall, we actually agreed to give Sebastien Bordeleau to Nashville if they would grab Vokoun on waivers (so that we would be able to protect Theodore). This surprised me, because I had heard that Vokoun looked like the better prospect.

Except for about two seasons, I think Vokoun has had the better career than Jose. We gave up a useful player in Bordeleau so that we could keep the weaker goalie. Oops!

  77. doug says:

he’s a rookie. . . he’s not entitled. solid player with solid future. no need to worry about being pulled for a couple games, even if i don’t know what he’s done wrong.

we’ve got a deep team. . . maybe missing top end talent but lots of players who are nhl worthy. got to keep gorges instead of brisebois and lapierre instead of smolinski when they return from injury. just go with youth.

  78. PattyBoy31 says:

The real question, is Chipchura cheering right now?

  79. Habs-Kat says:

If he’s a team player, then yes.

  80. PattyBoy31 says:

    “Vokoun is on acid.”

Boone, youre the man :D :D

  81. whitecat says:

    LMAO …priceless

  82. NLhabsfan says:

Notice tonight a lot of the pases the Habs make are making are along the boards…Forget centre ice.Where Florida block it up with other teams.

  83. Habs-Kat says:

    Sergei looks hurt…

  84. NLhabsfan says:

Sergei is tired more than anything.

  85. RH says:

The game clock on RDS never seems to be in sync with the arena clock. Oh well.

Anyway, Bill’s got it right about Komi not fighting. No use having, arguably, our best defensman constantly in the box for majors.

  86. doug says:

Komisarek just mentioned the “goose egg” for Huet during interview on TSN. No need to blame Mike if he mentions it later!

  87. gohabzzzz says:

i’m ecstatic!! for once, vokoun is a little (a lot!:)) nice to us and look what happens!? 4-0 and it sucks i can’t watch though
any who, i keep myself informed here
    gohabzzzz

  88. Moey says:

2P 9:10: Vokoun is on acid.,,,,,LOL, yeah he’s seeing 5 pucks and so far he keeps trying to stop the wrong one.

  89. Ed says:

It’s a good thing that we are scoring 5 on 5. The PP is 0-4 tonight with only 2 shots, & 1-12 in last 3 games. That’s only 6.25%. Maybe we will capitalize on this PP.

  90. Ian G Cobb says:

O.K. Boys and Girls, so who wants to trade Ryder now ?

And who wants to trade for a power forward?

And who does not want to develop our kids slowly on the farm?

We will be one of the top 10 teams at year end.

And we will compeat for the cup within 2 years!!!

    Patience, discipline, chemistry.

    Ian

  91. NLhabsfan says:

I am not that superstitious…what will be will be,… but I am surprised Komo mentioned it.Players are notoriously that way.

  92. Ed says:

After 2 periods, Lapierre’s line has 6 of the 12 shots, with Higgins 3, Lapierre 2 & Ryder 1. Montreal is only 30% on face offs, & Lapierre is 1 for 11 for 9%. We are being out hit 10-3, with Komisarek (2) & O,Byrne (1) having the hits. Markov has logged the most ice time for Montreal at 18:45. The score is 4-0 for Montreal. Nothing else matters.

  93. Ali says:

if a douchebag like Glen Healy respects Koivu as much as he does, then how can any of our fans question him.

  94. Mattee. says:

I think Price has been giving Huet some stickhandling lessons.

  95. mbplekfan says:

Anybody want to put Breezer back in the lineup???

I think he’s played his last game.

  96. PattyBoy31 says:

I’m listening to the florida XM feed and the guy has said S.O about 10 times in the last 5 mins….

  97. 24 Cups says:

I watched the first two periods and obviously I’m elated with the score. The Panthers came out flat, we took advantage of a cold goaltender, and we are about to win a four pointer on the road in Florida where we always seem to come up short. Plus a lot of our guys are skating like crazy. Ryder’s goal (courtesy of Higgins) will lift a dark cloud not only from a frustrated player but also from the team in general. And just when it looked like Florida might get back in the game Tommy K. scores a timely goal. One handed! Not the K brothers but a plugger who shows up for every game.

Not losing the Christmas spirit, I am a little disappointed with our powerplay and our lack of faceoff success. But it’s all about winning and getting points in a very balanced conference. We broke through some psychological barriers during the past 24 hours and that means a lot. I’m off to a party – you young people on this site probably don’t know what a Rusty Nail is but trust me – it will set you free. Bring on the Rangers – Komisarek is going to ring Avery’s new year’s bell.

    The Original 24 Cups

  98. PattyBoy31 says:

I hope the coaching staff can just tell breez hes been worked out of the lineup, but offer him some sort of coaching job or someway to not completely cut the guy out of the team

  99. Mattee. says:

I still hate watching other teams waltz into our end…

  100. Mattee. says:

I don’t want Brisebois coaching a single dman, goalie or forward on this team. He can coach the equipment specialists. no, not even that.

  101. Mattee. says:

I can hear the Ole’s already.

  102. mbplekfan says:

    That’s Carbo’s “system”…

Let the other team come at you and try to hold on.

  103. PattyBoy31 says:

:D lol, I know what you mean, but I feel for the guy, but I don’t want to see him play, he can probably tape sticks like a madman…

  104. Blitzen says:

I hope Cube isn’t hurt badly. Wouldn’t want to open a door for BreezeBy.

  105. Mickey says:

i think it would open the door for chips. Move dandy back and chips fills in the forward spot

  106. Bill says:

Those TSN idiots predicted a shut out and a win, F%$#$!#!!! and it starts as I type.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  107. PattyBoy31 says:

    Komi…………oh well.

  108. Mattee. says:

we could make him the bring-along-fan. He just wears a habs jersey and cheers. Wait, that would make him a cheerleader. Cancel that.

  109. Steiner says:

    oh boy.
    here it comes.

  110. NLhabsfan says:

Komo had that …jeez anyway we have a game to win!!

  111. Mickey says:

    O’byrne with the boom!

  112. Blitzen says:

    What a hit by O’Byrne!!!!!!!!!!!!

  113. the_vipah says:

Poor Huet. Third lucky/trash goal hes given up in two games.

  114. Mattee. says:

    mmm system… delicious and nutritious.

    I Heart “System.”

  115. J.T. says:

The only way that can happen is if Breezer retires. If he stays on the roster when Smoke comes back, there are 24 on the roster and someone’s got to go. Unless Gainey’s got a trade of a body for a pick or prospect up his sleeve, that means a demotion. And looking at Gainey’s record of respect for vets, I’m guessing either Laps or S.Kost is gone to Hamilton…more than likely Laps.

  116. doug says:

I hope neither one is sent down. Lapierre has really worked his tail off and Sergei has had an amazing start.

By the way, JT, the announcers on TSN just said that Gainey is a big fan of Ryder’s and that he and Carbonneau have different perspectives (similar to Price staying up), so maybe there’s hope for your province-mate staying in Montreal?

  117. Forlando says:

Actually I don’t think he has done anything wrong. The way I see it Carbo likes Kosto better for his defensive line with Streit and Dandy…plus he can fight…so he had to pull someone and sadly chips was the logical choice for the pressbox

  118. ebk says:

sending either down would be a huge mistake and send the wrong message to all of their young players. Hopefully Gainey can come up with a better solution.

  119. Forlando says:

If the Habs stay in the fourth place I am sure they will not send down laps or S.Kost. forget about it….they will not risk breaking the chemistry and not making the playoffs because of “vets respect”….NOOOOO WAY!

  120. Ed says:

Yes, I was very surprised to hear that.

  121. J.T. says:

Well, how do you think they’re going to solve the 24-man roster puzzle?

  122. Naila Jinnah says:

I think Andrei might get the boot!

  123. The Teacher says:

HAHAHAHAHA! I was wondering about that too!

  124. Habs-Kat says:

I say I’m pretty excited now. They’re sitting pretty in fourth place and its not as though they’re winning with one-goal games. The Habs right now remind me of the Senators at the beginning of the season. Lets see if they can keep it up though. I’m going to keep my expectations low so that I can remain surprised :)

  125. The Teacher says:

    You and me both!

I want to wait and see if their effort tonight and the first game back at the Bell is on par with the last two games.

If the effort is up there, I won’t complain.

  126. Bouleau noir says:

As familiarity take place, O’Byrne is bound to throw more of those
hip cheks that as his butt acting like a loaded torpedo,… its my favorite hit in the game,… the timing, the sliding backward-out then the merciless butt whip that leaves the target frozen in time and the boards waving out the energy released from the shock acting out like a giant oscilloscope.

Of course this is just candy while the main meal and true satisfaction comes from watching your team playing elite type hochey…. when both shows up its like hochey paradise.

  127. Mickey says:

Huet now leads the league in save %. Show your love and appreciation and vote for him in the all star game. While your there you may aswell vote for Markov, Koviu and Kovalev too.

  128. Ed says:

Where are HabsSuck & TradeRyder tonight? I did not miss their negativity.

  129. NLhabsfan says:

Ryder is only as good as the team mates he plays with.Like Higgins.

  130. ebk says:

7 out of a possible 10 points is something to be proud of. Huet has been absolutely outstanding during the road trip. The Habs have been a little fortunate to run into some cold goaltending in games versus Washington, Tampa and Florida. If your goalie outplays the other team’s, you have a good chance to win every night. Huet and Price have routinely outplayed the goalie at the other end this year and it shows in the standings.

If Ryder gets his butt in gear and Gainey keeps the kiddie corps with the big club for the rest of the year, you never know. The Plekanec line has been outstanding all year and if the 2nd and 3rd lines get going on a nightly basis …….

    Thanks for reading

  131. Erik says:

yes way to go HABS!!!! wOOOOOOOOO

  132. mcLovin says:

    trade ryder!

just kidding. that goal should unleash at least 5 more!! go habs go!! wooo. great sleep tonight.

  133. Naila Jinnah says:

    So hot.

  134. likehoy says:

what is that supposed to mean?

  135. JasonM says:

Hey guys, with 6th in the NHL in scoring! GO HABS GO

  136. howtathor says:

Hard to believe we can have our butts handed to us in Dallas and then come out lookin like world beaters the next two games. What did they put in that turkey? But seriously folks, it’s been a true pleasure to witness the last two games. I don’t know what happened, maybe a “bolt of lightning” struck the team plane or what? The lines have been playing great together. I still have a problem with Chipchura bieng the odd man out. I would rather see him play center on the fourth line but hey, who am I to question with success. Kudos to Ryder for getting his game on, his checking last night was great and he created some good chances in the offensive zone. I haven’t seen the guy smile for I don’t know how long! New York will be a test, going from the warm climate of Florida back to the dreariness of winter and the unfriendly confines of MSG. Maybe we should pack up the show and move to Florida. Now there’s a team that can sell out every night in the sunshine state! I’m not planning the parade route just yet but I can dream can’t I?

  137. The Teacher says:

Sooo apart from Habs-Kat apparently taking the reigns of ‘Babe of HIO from Naila’,

    How did Ryder look?

and Habs- Kat, what do you say now that they’re on a winning streak?

  138. Mattee. says:

Ryder looked prrrrrrretty good. nice goal and he skated allright. That ups his stock by one point, he’s got a long waay to go.

    I Heart “System.”

  139. Guy21 says:

Good win-strange though-Vokoun had a bad night but they were skating.Kovalev is a horse and even when he carries someone to the net on his back -no penalty.I worry about sitting a good young player like Chips-was everyone on the team better than him?Dandy is not and he can’t take face offs.I’m still confused about that decision. Why Chips??Well now its on to the big Apple and the big A..hole Avery.Should be interesting…..
    Go Habs Go

  140. howtathor says:

I’ve never seen Ryder skate so well in three years! He was forechecking, backchecking, laying some bone crunching hits, you name it! In my eye he never hit so well since he put Marty Havlat out for the season with a separated shoulder two years ago. Same with Gui since the Dimaio incident. That said, the guys have to realize that injuries are part of the game and guys like Ryder who have the size have to use it.

  141. howtathor says:

I agree about Chips. He has been one of our most consistent players this year. Curious given that he is a player in the Carbonneau mold. There must be something more to it. I would play him anyday over Dandy or even Tom the Bomb. You know what the problem is? With 8 defencemen in the lineup there is no room for a forward! When Cube went off last night I didn’t think “I hope he’s okay”, I thought “great, maybe now Streit can go back on D”!
I hope Carbo doesn’t blow Chips confidence with this benching, and Price for that matter. These are two of our best kids and they need to play. Knowing Carbonneau, he will stick with this lineup until we lose or have an injury. He’s not a genius but is riding a lucky streak. I would have had Chips centering Ryder and Higgins but Lappy is just so darn fast that he makes the other two that much better. Chips is a more heady player, a better playmaker but his speed is not one of his strong points. I hope he can play his way back into the starting lineup.

  142. nightmare_49 says:

Sometimes when you analyse a game you have to take off your blinders and be objective in your summary of the event. To put down other players that have had a decent game cuz your favourites didn’t play and use the two “D”men playing forward arguement is pretty lame and rather selfish. The bottom line is that we needed energy and these line changes supplied that and also split up Higgy and Saku which was long overdue. Chips and Price are a big part of our future but winning is the name of the game and often temporary changes are needed to give others a spark. I hope you know that Dandy was drafted as a forward and Streit is a big part of our PP and in the future try and realise that dressing 12 skilled forwards doesn’t automatically give you 2 points as last i heard hockey was still a team sport.

  143. paul b says:

carb.will raise the banner (: (soon)Where are all of you who said Carb.is an idot with the line changes pleas give credit where credit is due.

  144. paul b says:

carb.will raise the banner (: (soon)
    ED…..great point…….

  145. ebk says:

Chipchura will not be out of the lineup long. He is certainly better than some of the forwards they are dressing but maybe he is a little banged up. He was not playing as well as he had earlier, so a little time in the press box will not hurt him. He is going to be a big part of the Habs future, so you can bet they will be sure he gets enough ice-time to develop into the player the team thinks he can be.

  146. ccs says:

Was this the awakening of the BIG O on D…That hit by O’byrne was why he was called up in the first place. He needs to be a presence out there and he answered the bell twice. Not the greatest fights in the world but he showed HEART tonight…Keep those hits coming. Way to go Ryder nice to see you have a great game.

  147. The Teacher says:

Mike, Mike, we need positive stats!!! Are you a Leafs fan in disguise? :P

First with saying Habs Nation, then saying shutout, and now a jinx, hmmmm.

Or are there no positive stats?

  148. Higgins21 says:

Mike won’t like you dissing his post. Only last week he went off half-cocked when put on the mat about the Markov/Ovechkin situation.

    Go Habs Go!

  149. petemoss says:

I can’t wait for the game tonight!
I also can’t wait for sunday’s game, when Sean ‘I hate hockey obsessed canadians’ Avery will try to start something with Mike ‘I stole your girlfriend Sean’ Komisarek, only to have Komisarek Rex make him a stain on the boards.
    I can’t wait.

  150. GrimJim says:

Mike “I stole your girlfriend” Komisarik????? What’s the info on that?

  151. The Teacher says:

Haha, I’m sure Mike knows I’m only joshing him. Being a Park-Ex boy myself, I think I’m allowed ;)

    but still! Positive thoughts :P

  152. Mike Boone says:

Loads of latitude for Park Ex attitude.

  153. The Teacher says:

Damn right, we think alike :P

  154. Ed says:

Mike Boone, you must have too much time on your hands to come up with stats like this. Who else would have noticed the 5-2 jinx? Let’s hope that this jinx will end, just as your Reverse Boone Jinx ended. The big difference is that your Reverse Boone Jinx was for a good cause.

  155. NLhabsfan says:

    O’byrne…nice hit love it.

  156. The Teacher says:

Yes we are, and we do need to be aggressive. However, Florida is surprisingly 6th in PP percentage. Something to take note of.

  157. Habs-Kat says:

I think the strategy tonight should be to play an aggressive game – even if it means taking a couple of penalties early to assert the Habs mentality. That might make the Panthers a little more tentative in all aspects of the game (as opposed to last time when a very confident Panthers team was smothering the Canadiens with their forechecking and backchecking) and the Canadiens can capitalize. Florida’s in the bottom five of the conference in scoring, so I think if the Habs play strong D, they’ll be able to shut down the Panthers offense too.

Key, as always: 60 minutes of quality play. We’re a better team than Florida.

  158. Bill says:

Exactly what do you have to do to get an instigator penalty?

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  159. Mattee. says:

I think you have to physically pull a player off the bench and fight him.

    I Heart “System.”

  160. NLhabsfan says:

Max line looks good tonight….they are beginning to jell.

  161. gohabzzzz says:

ah man!! just when you hope for shutout this happens!!!
and oh habs, please finish this one on a good note!
    still, keep it up huey!!!

  162. Mickey says:

thats what i was thinking bill

  163. NLhabsfan says:

I don’t care about the stats…Our Canadiens will kick their buts tonight.

  164. Blitzen says:

    Cube is on the bench!!!!!

  165. Mattee. says:

    Amen.

    I Heart “System.”

  166. yukonhab says:

    Habs will win!

    GO HABS GO!

  167. Mickey says:

or a penalty for that matter. never mind… thats a joke

  168. Mattee. says:

Well ladies and gentlemen, this is the part of the show where we complain about the reffing. Insert comments here:

    I Heart “System.”

  169. Bill says:

Kerry Fraser is so blind, he needs a seeing-eye dog to help him scratch his balls.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  170. NLhabsfan says:

    Tripping …jeez what a joke.

  171. Keith says:

Even the TSN moron Healy said that was a brutal non call against Kovy. what gives?? The fans booed for F*&^ sakes!

  172. the_vipah says:

When is Fraser going to lose his job? He has been and continues to be one of the worst Refs in the league. Mick “Fat ass bird flapping arms” Magoo should be right behind him.

    Get on it league.

  173. Mattee. says:

wow wow wow. kovy is an artist.

    I Heart “System.”

  174. Moey says:

Kovy just had a Rocket Richard moment, out of the box pissed, wants to make a statement. Love that.

  175. Habs-Kat says:

I think Ryder should get a star for this game.

  176. doug says:

God is Kovalev awesome this year. We’re halfway through the season. . . I can’t remember him ever being this consistent. . . I can remember lots more points but not so consistent in terms of work (all the while agreeing with Mike Boone about his lack of passing.)

  177. Fer_hab says:

Kovi TIME. He deserves a goal

  178. NLhabsfan says:

Healy is dough head…I never listen to him.

  179. Bill says:

I think it’s Huet, Higgins, and Kovalev, but I’d give him a big pat on the back.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  180. Mattee. says:

    WHAT A FRIGGIN PASS!

    I Heart “System.”

  181. Blitzen says:

    WHAT A PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  182. PattyBoy31 says:

Streit :) nice passing I hear?

  183. Habs-Kat says:

    Beautiful pressure, beautiful goal.

  184. NLhabsfan says:

    What passing…..love it.

  185. Blitzen says:

The Cage will be rethinking its free wings policy pretty soon.

  186. Fagstein says:

    Another 5-goal game.

And once again a chicken-wing-craving crowd is grateful for our boys’ hard day’s work.

  187. Habs-Kat says:

I love having O’Byrne on this team.

  188. Mickey says:

Na na na na na na na hey hey hey good bye

on the road? only Hab fans

  189. PattyBoy31 says:

Who won the fight? PLEASE< I HATE THE RADIO. It said he got a few rights in?

  190. Mattee. says:

THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF THREADING THE NEEDLE! WATATATOUUUUW!

    I Heart “System.”

  191. Bill says:

Two fights for O’Byrne! Instigator? Misconduct? Fine?

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  192. Fagstein says:

Does the Cage deliver to Florida? Someone should ship these guys some wings. They earned them a heck of a lot more than we did.

  193. NLhabsfan says:

    Goons by Florida.

  194. Mattee. says:

Ya me too! Brisebois would have skated off to the bench with his tail between his legs.

    I Heart “System.”

  195. Habs-Kat says:

Jacque Martin deserves a fine in this situation.

  196. RH says:

Who is this Glass clown and why did he make a bee line straight for O’Byrne?

  197. Mattee. says:

I think that makes three no?

    I Heart “System.”

  198. PattyBoy31 says:

    ok thanks

  199. Mattee. says:

    he wanted a hug.

  200. Fer_hab says:

    WHAT A SAVE BY HUET

  201. J.T. says:

Am I the only one who thinks Martin looks like he should be Barry Trotz’ sidekick in the NHL version of the “Sopranos?”

  202. Bill says:

I’m still pissed about that jinx. They’re laughing about it on TSN.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  203. RH says:

This is EXACTLY what’s wrong with this game. You have NO TALENT TWITS who are paid just fight. The Weasel who runs this league better order his mistress to suspend that idiot, Glass, and fine Jacques Martin and the Panthers organization a huge amount. Then again, if they fine them, the Panthers might go bankrupt. RIDICULOUS!

  204. Bill says:

That was a beauty. And Huet played a great game all around.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  205. doug says:

O’Byrne had jersey over his head the whole time. . . that’s why they broke it up fast

  206. Bill says:

Jennifer Hedger looks quite fetching tonight, non?

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  207. Habs-Kat says:

Jay Onrait is the heart of Sportscentre :)

  208. Mattee. says:

I once knew a man who refered to him as a Voolkswagen beetle with it’s doors open…

    I Heart “System.”

  209. Bill says:

I think the other was called roughing, not sure.

Habs-Kat is the babe of HIO.

  211. Mike Boone says:

    If you like Barbie dolls.

  212. Mattee. says:

wow – I-I don’t even know what to say. haha.

    I Heart “System.”

  213. Y says:

Nah he reminds me of the Penguin from Batman 2. Danny Devito clone

  214. Bill says:

Just call me Ken … er, on second thought, don’t.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  215. Mike Boone says:

Both of them collecting for John Tortorella.

  216. Habs-Kat says:

    Me neither.

  217. GrimJim says:

I think he had an arythmia during the second intermission (pardon the spelling)

  218. Grabbed The Cup says:

Not a whole neck between them.

  219. Habs-Kat says:

    That was hilarious!

  220. Naila Jinnah says:

Back in the day, that used to be me ;)

  221. Chuck says:

My bet is Nonstopoulos will sit and chips will be back…but jusst a guess

  224. Mattee. says:

    LMFAO!

    I Heart “System.”

  225. ebk says:

that would be the smart move or Dandenault

  226. J.T. says:

Komi was photographed with Elisha Cuthbert, who used to date Avery.

  227. The Teacher says:

Hahaha, that would only serve Avery right and be sweet payback for Komi.

I remember an incident where Komi was in his first year on a Saturday night late game where we beat the Kings with Garon making something like 44 saves.

Komi and Avery were hitting each other and jawing back and forth. I distinctly remember Avery calling Komi a ‘minor-leaguer’.

I don’t think that label applies anymore if it ever did ;)

  228. fun police says:

if the habs sit back and try to trap the trappers, we will lose. the bottom line is, if our third and fourth line is our best we lose. our top two lines have to be the best. hopefully huet is solid.

  229. Habs-Kat says:

I just got a text from my friend who was at the game. He said that it was like a home game but with better weather.

  230. GrimJim says:

What’s wrong with winter in Montreal? I wish I could go skiing in Mount Royal.

  231. the_vipah says:

Heh Mike you need to stop crying about normal Hockey stuff. There was no “gooning” there.

Noone is laying on the ice after a stick to head. Noone is ko’d after a hit from behind.

Those are called “fights” and “scuffles” and they happen when a team doesnt like the way they lost a game. They also keep the really nasty stuff from happening as player get to release their frustrations.

You can either deal with it, or you can go watch Golf.

  232. Mike Boone says:

Instead of golf, maybe I’ll watch football. No matter what the score is tomorrow night, I don’t think the Giants will be cheap-shoting Tom Brady at the final gun to release their frustrations.

  233. Bill says:

That’s an old line about it “keeping the really nasty stuff from happening”, and it’s pretty clearly untrue. Lots of nasty stuff keeps happening in the NHL, fights or no fights. Boone’s right: it’s a 5-1 game, it’s over, and it’s cheap of Martin to send out a goon to pick a fight over a good, clean hit. It’s also prohibited by the NHL and should definitely result in a fine according to the rules of the league … is Boone whining to suggest the NHL should follow its own rules?

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  234. NLhabsfan says:

Great game.TWO in Florida.Who would have thought!!!

  235. Keith says:

What a fantastic Florida trip it has been eh? I’m so glad we smoked this team 5-1. I hate the Panthers almost as much as I hate the laffs. The Panthers have the same mentality as the laffs with all the cheapshots taken and getting away with it all game long. Feels great to finally beat them. Great team effort from Les Boys! GO HABS GO!!!

  236. linp says:

The line Lapierre/Higgins/Ryder looks good both offensively and defensively. I like that line more than Koivu’s line. Higgins appears to be a different player and passes more.

  237. Bill says:

It’s a good line, but Koivu with Latendresse and Little Kos is also a nice combo. If they can stay together, Koivu and Sergei can make magic, and Latendresse will pick up a lot of goals.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  238. NLhabsfan says:

Your right Higgins does look better tonight and the last night as well.Hmm well maybe he is is playing with more comfort.

  239. RH says:

I was happy with five points on this road trip. Seven out of a possible ten points on the road is staggering to say the least. One more game and then they’re home. Oh wait…..one more game and then they’re home. That can’t be good news. Can’t they play the rest of the season on the road or something?

You have to love people who don’t think that there is something inherently wrong with grown men who act like elementary school children, fighting on the playground, when they lose. I think it’s called POOR SPORTSMANSHIP, or something of that nature. If you’re going to pay some DOOFUS hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight, why not put him in a boxing ring with Don King standing in his corner? What the hell is ‘noone’ anyway?

  240. Erik says:

gREAT WIN WAY TO GO HABS!!!!

  241. sidhu says:

Just got back from work and unfortunately missed the game — Mr Boone, your commentary is hilarious.

I’m so glad that the Habs won this game after drubbing the Panthers. I admit I was one of the people who thought Carbo was on shrooms, dope, paint thinner, etc., in setting these lines, but clearly they’ve worked.

Hey, someone should tell Brisebois and Smolinski to stay in Florida!

  242. Habs-Kat says:

I wouldn’t mind this time if Brisebois decides to head to Paris for some time off ;)

  243. ebk says:

Hockey is ruled by a thug mentality that leads to incidents like Chris Simon and Todd Bertuzzi. Will not change because the NHL thinks it helps them sell tickets. Maybe it does

  244. the_vipah says:

You are right. Someone may give him a nice helmet on helmet shot earlier in the game, or maybe hit him low.

Football has its share or cheap crap. Not to mention how many killers and other assorted criminals the NFL employs. The NHL has a long way to go to sink to those levels.

  245. Bill says:

Ha, well that is true. Still waiting for someone to pull out a gun (or pit-bull?) during an NFL game.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  246. RH says:

Jay Onrait?….Jennifer Hedger?….BLAHHH! AM Radio has better looking people!

  247. the_vipah says:

Hey fair enough. Mike is just seems overly sensitive about this stuff. We won, I just don’t see the point in complaining about some weak scuffling at the end of the game.

We can’t expect our opponents to get pasted and just go home without a sound.

  248. Norm0770 says:

So lets say O’Byrne breaks his hand on the goon’s helmet or gets a crushed cheek bone, what then? Montreal looses a steady defenseman, while Florida gets some manner of satisfaction out of someting that is not tolerated in any other sport. It is completely unnessessary for the oppossing coach to send out a guy who has hardly played all year in the last 2 minutes if the game just to stir sh*t up(Glass has no points in 13 games this year).

Also I’m tired of players fighting are a good clean check at any point in a game. What ever happened to playing through it to show it didn’t bother you rather than going ballistic over a good solid play that may have in some way hurt your pride.

  249. Habs-Kat says:

Calice… I’m just not in the mood for snow this year.

  250. Keith says:

    Ryder???? Finally!!!!2-0!!

  251. Habs-Kat says:

Woah. I don’t even know what to say after that.

  252. Blitzen says:

OK how many of you expected 3-0 after so little time.

  253. PattyBoy31 says:

me…this is the first game I haven’t been able to watch when I’ve been home. I HATE US SATELITTE, I PRAY THE STARCHOICE GUY WILL SPEED IT UP

    YES 3-0

  257. Steiner says:

    WHAT IS GOING ON?!

    Wow.

  258. Habs-Kat says:

Am I really watching the Montreal Canadiens?

  259. Blitzen says:

    3 shots 3 goals.

  260. Fagstein says:

Well that time-out worked brilliantly, didn’t it?

  261. Mattee. says:

Haha, we chased Vokoun! Eat that!

    I Heart “System.”

  262. HabsProf says:

2 games in a row we’ve made them pull the starter.

It bears repeating – CARBO is a genius!

  267. howtathor says:

WAY TO GO RYDER! That wasn’t a monkey that was King Kong off his back!!

  268. Ali says:

    here comes the goonery!

  269. PattyBoy31 says:

Whats going on, Higgs Ryder, swinging of stick at Lapierre ?!?!?!

  270. Blitzen says:

    Sorry…he’s still in.

  271. Mattee. says:

can anyone see Fraser with the finger pointing? “Listen here “O’byrne, you better let go of him or I am going to have a word with your mother, don’t make me pull out Mister Wooden Spoon.”

  272. Ed says:

That goal by Ryder was a very unselfish play by both him & Higgins.

  273. NLhabsfan says:

Ryder score everyone’s having fun.Frustration with Florida now…Looks good on them.

  274. HabsProf says:

CJAD guys are giving a lot of credit to Cube on the Ryder goal, saying he made a great defensive play on Jokinen (I think) to then get the puck. No assist on the play, but the sort of thing that teammates and coaches will notice.

Cube has been playing some of his best hockey the last few weeks.

By the way, we scored on our first three shots of the game.

  275. gohabzzzz says:

OMG!! 3-0 vs panthers??!! amzing, i have to say its about time

  276. HabsProf says:

How the heck did the Habs get a penalty on that play? Even if Allen got 2 extra?

  277. gohabzzzz says:

    wow…6 minutes…i don’t mind:)

  278. PattyBoy31 says:

Is there anywhere where there are extended highlights/the entire game I can watch when the games over?

  279. Steiner says:

I really wish the camera man could follow the puck.
    This is ridiculous.

  280. Fagstein says:

And here I was thinking Higgy would pull a Gordie in under 5 minutes.

  281. Ali says:

Little Kosty shows alot of poise at the point!

  282. mcLovin says:

that was sweet. a go habs go chant

  283. Habs-Kat says:

The great thing about Kovalev this season is that even if he loses the handle on the puck once in a while, he makes it more than forgiveable.

  284. Billy says:

recaps are avail usually a hour or two after the game at http://www.nhl.tv

  285. Naila Jinnah says:

    OMG Ryder scored!

  286. Ali says:

    its a christmas miracle!

  287. Habs-Kat says:

    And it was beautiful.

  288. RH says:

Holy Crap! Was I wrong about how this game was going to be played tonight. What the hell happened? I guess I should have let the wife give the kid a bath and put him to bed instead. Looks like O’Byrne said something to that guy to get him riled up. Maybe O’Byrne has got a little bit of a potty mouth huh? Can’t believe the Habs didn’t score on that long power play.

  289. Habs-Kat says:

The best part about the early lead is that all of the goals were scored 5-on-5. If they can keep that up, they’ll be a serious contender very soon.

  290. Ed says:

Yes, & it’s a good thing as the PP is just 1 for 12 in the last 3 games, & unsuccessful so far tonight.

  291. Bill says:

Umm … how did this happen? I hear Ryder scored??? Next comes the rain of toads, if I’m not mistaken.

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  292. NLhabsfan says:

Just wondering if those cheerleaders are using Bob Cloe’s Pom-Poms.

  293. Sulemaan says:

    That’s because the Leafs aren’t playing… ;-)

  294. NLhabsfan says:

Ryder needs a chance to play instead of sitting out game after game.

  295. gohabzzzz says:

c’mon habs! don’t screw this up!! pretend that its still 0-0, maybe that’ll work

  296. mbplekfan says:

You gotta love Komisarek, he doesnt give an inch to anyone. Obyrne could learn a lot.

  297. Sulemaan says:

I think we finally have three very good lines. I think Kostopolous, Dandenault, Begin, Streit and Smolinski will need to fight out for spots for the 4th line. Mr. Chipchura should be centering it but the team seems to be doing well, so he can rest up for a little while.

    (Emphasis being on ‘little while’…)

  298. Bill says:

Begin and Smolinski are going to have a hard time getting back in the line-up. Unless you sit Lapierre and Kostopoulos, and keep sitting Chipchura, where do they go?

Speaking of Chipchura, he needs to be back in there. He’s been one of my favourites this year: what did he do, egg Carbo’s house or something?

With the way the defense is playing, I’d say Brisebois is finished as a Hab. As a player, at least. Can you say New Assistant Coach? :)

    http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com

  299. Keith says:

Glad to see some hatred from the Habs towards this team cause I really hate the Panthers.

  300. NLhabsfan says:

I hate every team that plays us:)

Agreed Bill. Begin might have a chance but Smolinski is pretty much out as well. Unless there are injuries or major slumps, Brisebois is indeed finished because even if one of the current 6 defencemen goes injured, you can slot Streit or Dandenault there as there is a surplus of forwards now.

We indeed need to make room for Chipchura as he is one of my favorites this year as well. Take Higgins, Komisarek and Chipchura and you have amongst them the future captain and assistant captains of the team.

You and the rest of the city.

Habs need one more to put this game away….and to get a bunch of people free wings.

  304. HabsProf says:

Actually, I didn’t think Vokoun could have done much on the first three goals. It was the TK goal (and that near goal on the clear) that makes him look shaky. He is clearly flustered now.
