Freudian Slip of the Year by Panger

Darren Pang on the “white way” to be a hockey player.

TSN’s Elmer Fudd?

This will be SO VIRAL.

•  •  •

So a guy tells his friend “I made a Freudian slip the other day.”

Friend says: “Freudian slip? What’s that?”

Guy says: “The Air Canada agent at the airport had immense breasts, and I asked for ‘two pickets to Titsburgh’.”

His friend says: “Oh, I had one of those. Yesterday at breakfast my wife asked me to pass the sugar and I said ‘You’ve made my life a f—ing misery’.”

  1. Jordio-oh says:

hahaha, wow. I don’t know how i would recover from that. Much respect for handling it well.

  2. Shiloh says:

I think it’s wrong to call it a Freudian slip. It was more like a Spoonerism. Bonne’s example (“2 pickets to Tittsburg”) is a classic Spoonerism, and not a Freudian slip – although the protagonist’s innermost feelings are betrayed when his wife asks for the sugar.

The thing which makes me believe that this was not Freudian is the word “way” which follows “right”. Pang transposed the ‘w’ of ‘way’ to the beginning of the previous word ‘right’ thus getting ‘wight or white’. It was an extremely unfortunate slip but I think it’s a leap to give it a Freudian context.

But what the hell do I know?

  3. matrags says:

and it shouldnt be left to a kid to penetrate the obvious.and common sence should tell people if it quacks like a duck………

  4. moser17 says:

I say you’re right about Pang, but the first fellow in Boone’s example is still Freudian. The man notices the breasts as desirable, and verbally betrays his desire. The slip in this case also happens to be a Spoonerism!

  5. Ayan_SB says:

    Panger’s the colour commentator right?

  6. _Habsoloutly_ says:

This is the kind of Freudian slip I’d expect from Cherry, not Panger.

Hey Boone, the “TSN’s Elmer Fudd?” made me LMFAO.

  7. soperman says:

Good catch on the definition of a “Freudian slip”.  I don’t think Pang is a racist – he is one of the nicer guys on TSN – and I would hate to have someone from outside of hockey use this term to unjustly accuse him of racism.  I hope that Pang doesn’t have to pay the price for this slip, he is one of the more objective guys on the panel in my opinion.

  8. HardHabits says:

Hush now. Those are fine clothes that he’s wearing. Not Don Cherry. The Emperor!!

  9. G-Man says:

What a load this post is. Have you never misspoken?

  10. Da Hema says:

This diatribe will get an A+ in an oppression/feminist course in one of our higher institutions of learning, but I suspect in this forum of common sense you will get an F.

An important announcement from the Government of Canada:

Health Canada is reminding Canadians that consumption of the Toronto Maple Leafs has led to vomiting, fever, bloody diarrhea, dementia, and penile dysfunction.

  11. Wops says:

Hope he gets black next game… I mean back

  12. sillywalk says:

“It was more like a Spoonerism.”

  13. Wayne says:

    Get a grip, please.

  14. Wayne says:

I agree. Tongue tide, YES. Freudian slip NO.

  15. Matt_in_TO says:

I don’t know Pang but I’m sure he didn’t mean it that way, at least I hope not!  Good on him for apologising.  I wonder how many calls and e-mails TSN got during the second period.

  16. JasonM says:

    Funny as hell

  17. Canadiangrrl says:

This just made my day.  EPIC.  (fail, but – EPIC!)

  18. matrags says:

Its like some sick comedy but its true. Young gregarious well spoken , and talented black boy arrives on the scene confident eager to make a mark ,believing all things are equal.White bigotted media personalty dressed llike a mad hatter, uses his place in the national media to single him out , to caution him , about being toooo uppidy, warning him under threat of bodily harm , to get back in place . No one challenges the , parody of the great white plantation owner , and finally the boy is dragged to the wood shed for some education. Were told its for mistakes on the ice but others ruminate that its about accepting his proper place in the room. So when Panger has a freudian slip why are we suprized, the truth is out there.

  19. Robert L says:

Technically, while this reads like a Freudian slip, it isn’t one in the exact sense. It is defined as an error that reveals a thought from someone’s subconscious mind. Suggesting this is Freudian slip is to suggest Pang is a racist. I doubt that’s the case. It’s unfortunate for all involved…..and funny as hell anyway!

  20. 24 Cups says:

That happened to me once when I went in to get my glasses adjusted by a female optometrist.  When she asked what was wrong, I meant to say that my glasses were cock-eyed but it somehow came out as cocks____ed.  She was pretty understanding about it as we both had a laugh.  God only knows how red my face must have been.

  21. Shiloh says:

Yep – those darn things get in your sightlines a lot…

  22. 134 says:

Holy jumpin! Did he really screw that one!

  23. matrags says:

however….wasnt panger just repeating Cherrys drival about knowing your place. The same Cherry who likes to rail against pinkoes and left wing nuts ,and Jake Martin, and doesnt Cherry just look so much like the steriotypical old southern boy.

  24. matrags says:

I hope your right ,it will be great to be wrong on this one .

  25. Number31 says:

He did apologize later. But talk about one big oops.

  26. Da Hema says:

As Clint Eastwood might say, that was mighty white of Pang to apologise.

  27. Chorske says:

    Oh DEAR me.

Like when I say orgasm instead of organism in my lectures. Only, racistish.

My favourite exchange about Freudian Slips was on Cheers.

    Woody: What’s a Freudian Slip?

Cliff: Well, Woody, that’s when you say one thing, when you’re really thinking about a Mother.

  28. Rainrocket16 says:

That sucks on so many levels…Can’t say I havent done things similar. Horrible outcome when your live on air.

  29. Chuck says:

Boone, that Freudian joke was be best EVER on HI/O. My wife even peed herself a little!

Centre Hice: one fan’s attachment to the Montreal Canadiens

  30. Canadiangrrl says:

Your wife is so awesome, btw.

  31. Aerobiz says:

    Jesus wept.

  32. Mr.Hazard says:
