It was the first time Carey Price’s parents have seen him play at the Bell Centre.
All they got was 40 minutes.
For the first time in his NHL career, Price got yanked after giving up four goals on 29 shots. Jaroslav Halak played the third period and was beaten once as Carolina laid a 5-1 thumping on a team that has lost five straight on home ice.
If he could have, Guy Carbonneau would have yanked his whole starting lineup.
Canadiens were that bad – and 21,273 took notice.
Once again, the team was booed off the ice.
"The booing is deserved," said an admirably honest Mike Komisarek.
"If one good thing comes out of tonight’s game, every guy has to remember this feeling. We have to hear those boos inside our heads."
The recent home-ice debacles, against Buffalo, Nashville, Detroit and Carolina – raise a question:
Just how bad are the Boston Bruins?
"We played well in Boston," said Komisarek, "and then we come home, play a very good team and we don’t respond.
"The fans have every right to boo. Those peeople pay good money to see us play."
"The booing is tough, it wears on players when we get booed," said Christopher Higgins. "We played a simple, effective game on the road and then we come home and it goes to shit."
Guy Carbonneau said he had "no explanation" for why his team falters in the theoretically friendly confines of he Bell Centre. On the road, the coach said, "the focus is there, we keep things simple and it works."
Carbonneau described Price as a 20-year-old goaltender who is learning the pro game and is "probably ahead of the curve."
"In the situation we’re in right now," the coach added, "we need goalies and everybody else to play well."

Carolina and Habs games are ones I’ve enjoyed watching, and this should be another good game. Habs need to pull off a big win at home, and I think the boys will do so tonight.
If both Begin and Smokes are placed on IR, I would hope that the Habs callup someone from Hamilton. Streit is not a forward, although I have a feeling that Carbo wouldn’t be against using Streit as a forward until Begin or Smokes return. I’d rather see Ferland get a callup though (seeing how it’s for a defensive-forward spot)
On a rumor note, has anyone else been hearing the Ryder rumors?? I was wondering if anyone knew if there was ANY truth to them. The one I’ve seen a few times is Ryder, 1 d-man, and 1 prospect for a top 6 sniper.
Obvious link: Marx and Lennon.
Sorry there, Chuck. Is it okay with you if I state the obvious?
Personally, Smolinski’s loss means nothing to me, he’s soft and sometimes lazy and has taken some bad penalties. Begin hurts though.
From TSN:
Bryan Smolinski (out indefinitely with a right knee injury – awaiting results from MRI Friday) and Steve Begin (out indefinitely with a left shoulder separation) are out and will likely be placed on IR. When that happens, the Canadiens could call up replacements.
Not a Lennon fan, I assume?

Let’s hope, for Michael Ryder’s sake, that if there are any 5 on 3′s tonight, that he will get to play & not watch from the bench as he did on 3 consecutive occasions earlier this year. At the time, he was in a slump, but it was not nearly as pronounced as it is now. That would have been an ideal time to get him going. Instead he was benched, and that had to affect his confidence.
Also, he was hardly ever used in the 3rd period, if they were leading. We know how well the Canadiens have fared while trying to be defensive, & protect those 3rd period leads. More often than not, they have blown them.
Pierre Lebrunn, on Sportnet, just now said that Ryder is only playing tonight because of the injuries to Smolinski & Begin. This is another example of the lack of confidence that Carbonneau has in Ryder. It is going to be difficult for him to get going tonight, especially playing in Montreal, where the fans are just waiting to boo him. He is in a no win situation.
I agree, but what happened to the big spanking we gave them last time? Any chance guys???!!!!
Bill beats up on Price. How predictable.

Hurricanes are quick, and they make short, crisp passes and have great presence in the middle of the ice in our zone. Very impressive.
THey ain’t looking great so far. Sighhhhhhh…….
Amen to that, I hate watching the Habs play these guys.
That’s how easy it is to score a goal. Whitney strips Chipchura, passes it off, over to Cole – unmolested by Hamrlik or O’Byrne (it’s not the size, it’s how you use it, I guess) – who owns the increasingly beatable Price.
Now that we’ve spotted them one, can the real game start?
Let’s see, important people in history who were shot. Abe Lincoln……Martin Luther King Jr…….JOHN LENNON?????!!!???? HUH???
PJ Stock is on Hockey Night in Canada’s pre-game show, saying that the buzz around Montreal is whether Saku Koivu’s “reign in Montreal is finally over.”
Never mind the communisim angle, a lot of stations in the US bible belt had a big problem with the first line, “Imagine there’s no heaven…”
Years ago WKRP in Cincinnatti did a wonderful show relating to John Lennon’s “Imagine” and the censorship issues that were raised because of it; you should check it out if you ever see it in re-runs.

lennon’s song is arguably about communism…I heard the tune was banned on several radio stations upon its release
AHHH the anticipation! 45 min till puck drop…can’t wait! CBC is showing the Leafs as usual. That’s ok, Cole wouldn’t know a Hab from a Hab not
Pierre and Yvon have got this down to an art form. Is there anything more thrilling than hearing TIR DU BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT!!! Thanks Pierre!
What’s up with this fight tonight between Merryweather and Hatton? 54.95 to rent! Oh well will have to settle for Lapierre/Brind’amour Yeah right! Well, I’m rootin’ for Ryder tonight! It’s been a long time since that hat trick in April!
Here’s a little ditty to the tune of Michael Row Your Boat Ashore
Michael put some points on the board, Hallelujah…
We know you can score 27 more, Hallelujah

Ugh. Chipchura gets his pocket picked. Phenominal shot by Cole though, off the far post.

I’ll say it for you Mike:
Erik F. Cole
Cole is a Habs killer.
And that’s the bad news.
John Lennon’s death was a very big deal for a lot of people. I’m glad Mike posted that, I fogot it was the anniversay today.
I can’t believe RDS just called him Corey Price. Thought that was over…
Like to see a great win GO HABS!!!
The good news is, this is the last time we face the ‘Canes!
I haven’t heard any legit rumors with any credibility. Most of the rumors I’ve heard sound like water-cooler talk.
Top 4 d from last night is the same, meaning that O’Byrne is playing with Hammer. Brisebois has been paired with Bouillon
Boone, could be a good idea to have an auto-refresh button on your page. Just a suggestion!
Might screw up the stats for your # of reads though..

I hear Micheal Ryder has family and friends at the game tonight should be some incentive to go out and work hard and shoot the puck instead of trying the backhand deke move we all have grown to hate. Is Erik Cole playing (hope not), he kills us. We have a hard time against these guys a victory would be a huge confidence boost. I wish Gorges was playing. I just don’t understand it. GO HABS GO!!

Can we trade him and Ryder during intermission? In the meantime, we can put Muller and Jaro on the forward lines.
Seriously, if things continue in this fashion, I wouldn’t mind making a trade well before the deadline for promising younger players – Bernier and Marleau perhaps.
mmm… we’ve finally got some size on D… delicious…
I don’t know what point your trying to make. I just wish it always wasn’t the great people who got shot, and the tyrants who lived to be old.
but that’s not for here. GO habs GO! I’m sure if lennon grew up in montreal he’d be an habs fan!
Lets get another 5 power play goals against Carolina tonight. I have a feeling Kostityn is going to have a huge game tonight.
Laffs are facing another backup goaltender tonight. What is it with them facing sub-par goaltending this year?

Most goals scored for Montreal in the last three years. We can’t afford to lose that. With his shot, he should be out on a 5on 3 situation. Ryder will be back. I just hope it’s for us.
I wouldn’t call it buzz. There is speculation Saku could be traded, depending on where the team is at as the deadline approaches. Pierre McGuire ranks Koivu behind Mats Sundin and Olli Jokinen as trade deadline targets for Cup contenders. Marian Hossa might be in that mix as well.
Price saved one there. Jeez, something good happen, please!!
Like rod hockey? It might just work!
F’ing perimeter play, they always take the path of least resistance.
What’s most upsetting is that none of us were taught to play that way
They have to be willing to pay the price for skating straight to the net, they’re not willing.

Hopefully Walker gets a misconduct for his jersey not being tied down.

Another nice play by OB
Habs tend to score on the PK
That’s the good part.

These guys couldn’t score with a roll of twenties and their pants down to their ankles.
When was the last time someone actually completely nutmegged someone and scored? Every time we try to deke, we lose the puck.
Komisarek got an INSTIGATOR on that? Holy shit. Walker’s gloves were off before Komisarek’s!!!
No misconduct for Walker’s jersey not being tied down??
I’m sorry, but the reffing is piss poor.
There were two borderline goals scored. The one the Habs scored was reviewed and overturned, while the borderline high stick that Staal hit the puck with wasn’t even reviewed. If you’re gonna review the Streit attempt, you BETTER review the high stick defection on Staal.
Anyone else realize how out of position the referee was on the first goal when he screened Price?
With all this whining about the officiating, it doesn’t change the fact that the Habs are playing another listless, uninspired home game. Methinks Carbo’s days are numbered…
Complete disarray.
You would think that at some point in time, shame might set in!
They are killing me tonight!
No kidding…our two best forwards tonight are defensemen (#32 and #25)
This one I blame Komisarek. Didn’t he see the penalty has already been called?
We got srewed out of that goal, and the penalties are iffy, but we deserve to be where we are.
I’m scratching my head. Even the instigator is an iffy call. Plus, Walker shoved him head-first into the boards.
we can’t expect to win every game, but we should expect a good effort every night
Here’s a crazy idea, what if they start skating in a more direct line to the net…
The “first” line shows up half way into the game. Let’s go boys!
watching this team is like watching hot water boil. Nothing special.
Canes anouncers were just wondering if carbo yells at them in french than in english???
We are a joke now..
almost had a heart attack
Complete disarray.
Crazy crazy crazy action…
Good thing we’ve got shootout King Price!
i’m not sure what this team should do when their #1 center has one even strength goal in 29 games and their goaltending prodigy isn’t yet ready to take over from a pending free agent.
i do know that lapierre and halak are not the long term answers.
I agree completly.
Oh…obviously, you’re a new Habs fan. Because the last game last season was SOOOOO much lower than this.
I agree, except that I don’t think Carbo has much of a philosophy besides “Okay, boys, we gotta work out there!” Every team has to do that if they want to compete. I don’t think Carbo has much strategy which is killing their chances of winning. Obviously, this team is not well prepared for games either. Plus, the coach has very poor rapport with his players (the Kovy issues of last year are making more sense now…) and publicly berates them!
Carbonneau is too proud to admit that his “system” SUCKS, and refuses to change it.
I don’t agree that the talent is here to be a top-tier NHL team.
Right now they have 3 forwards playing at a high-level. Kovalev, Plekanec and Higgins. Koivu and Ryder are struggling big time. Kostitsyn and Latendresse look to have the potential to be pretty good NHL players. Most nights, right now, they aren’t. Chipchura is kinda the same as those two. The rest of the crap that is put on the ice is far below the standard of a average NHL forward.
On defense, they have 3 players above the NHL average. Markov is there best player. Hamrlik has helped defensively and Komisarek is solid and punishing.
The rest are either soft, small or both. Frankie the Bull is their 4th best defenseman on most nights and god bless the little fellow, a team is in trouble if that is the case. I did not include O’Bryne in this assessement because he as played only 2 games.
Their goaltending is by far the strongest area of the team. Huet, Price and Halak provide this team with a chance to win every night.
To blame Price for the loss tonight is pretty lame in my eyes. The habs were skated into the ground by the Hurricanes. Without Price in the first period and early 2nd, they would have been blown out of the rink early. THis is not to say he played great but there are 18 other players who I would point the finger at first but that is just me.
I think in order to acquire some scoring forwards with experience, you have to sacrifice something. You don’t give away the farm, but you can’t get if you don’t give something of value back. I’d be willing to give a couple of young players and/or a draft pick for a bonafide NHL goal-scorer.
Doug, I always resist blaming coaching and goalies. It’s so easy to pinpoint their mistakes, because they’re individuals. This team is lacking very much as a team, and it won’t be improved anytime soon.
Nooooooooooo… I’d have caught the ‘Dogs!
The system doesn’t neccessarily suck, he just doesn’t have the pesonelle to implement it. The players Montreal has are more suited to Lindy Ruff’s system.
His biggest weakness is that he doesn’t recognize what the players he has can or should be asked to do.
Well, just because coaches and goalies take more than their fair share of the blame doesn’t mean that they’re never responsible for a team’s problems. The job is coaching is to make the players function as a team rather than a bunch of spare parts that don’t fit together
haha…
Higgy said: “We play so simple on the road and we play with so much hesitation at home, and it should be the other way around, we should play well at home and feed off the energy of our fans. You look at their team and they’re playing with energy and crashing the net, and you look at our team, and we’re doing none of that.”
Kovy: invisible
Carbo: (on Price) “I think he knows that he needs to be better but with that he’s a 20 year old who needs to learn a lot. He’s ahead of the curve but we knew it was going to be a season where he would learn a lot. But unfortunately we’re a team that if we want to win, we need everyone and our goalies to perform.”
And bonus…
Price: “We all know we can play better as a group. We had to change something and it was just the way things were going.”
Komisarek: “If there’s one thing we should take from this game is getting booed off the ice by the fans. We should remember that feeling. That should stay with us.”
Koivu:
“When we take a goalie out of the game it doesn’t mean that he played bad, most of the time, it’s the players in front that aren’t playing well.”
“Right now when we’re not playing at the top of our game, it’s tough and the type of team that we have we can’t take nights or periods off and it’s not going to look pretty but it has to be team first and team play first.”
“Can’t pinpoint one thing that’s not going well, we seem to do those things on the road but at home we’re getting whipped.”
Bouillon:
“We have to be conscious that even if we don’t score, it was only 1-0 so we need to get over that and keep working. Today we were dominated A-Z and on one on ones, and today we just gave up and it shouldn’t be like that we should play our best game and work hard, and we know this team and if we don’t play our best game we can’t win.”
I’m of the philosophy that all 82 regular season games are equally important.
Each is worth 2 points…
I understand the circumstances last year may have provoked more disappointment. However, this was one of the worst Habs performances in recent memory.
I agree in terms of the points-per-game. But the pure disappointment and disgust of last year was horrendous.
Trust me … I feel your pain.
i politely disagree. i think a coaching change often makes a difference just because people stop listening (see Atlanta). in this case, i think that carbonneau is just not a good coach and hasn’t put together the right system. i hope we don’t jettisone good players because of bad coaching, or there will be a repeat of the 90′s with excellent nhl players around the league who used to play for us. ribeiro, legwand, vokoun, beauchemin, tucker, marcel hossa, etc. are enough. . . we tend to populate other teams with our young talent. i’d be okay with packaging some young talent for a good 28 year old but that doesn’t seem to happen as much in hockey as it does in baseball, for instance.
i don’t think we are this year either. i think we will be in ~3 years but we could be a more solid team this year if better coached, and then be able to attract free agent talent.
How quickly we forget 2000-2001. 28 wins, 70 points. Ugh.

Canes annoucer just said he fells that when the Habs are out of the playoffs a lot of their fans pull for the Canes. Brutal, Habs fans cheer for 2 teams Montreal and whoever is playing Toronto.

ALl we can hope for is a tread-water night, I guess. Leafs lost, let’s send bad energy to the Sabres and Isles.
Whatever the Habs are doing, it isn’t working. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark!
Weird… shots are 36-36.
Shoot. I am sort of watching. So much angst. Never mind the score. I actually think this team has alot going for it. And I have watched the team play a fair few games over time, and win a couple of trophies.
Goal = solid, whatever combination, and Carey Price is our No. 1
D = real tough to go around with the addition of O’Byrne. The former Big 3 = The Sign of Four, well potentially.
F = This is more problematic. Saku K has never really played with a decent winger right or left (though Higgins is quite good)… So, you either have to trade him — and I do not want this — or find him some one to play with at least this is what I thought he said last time.
Bob, just find a very, very big left wing with some hands.
Before you trade any assets self-reflect and search. Do not listen to any media. Or me duh.
Geez, va bene cosi
When the Habs traded the Green Mountaineer. Jesus wept and it was obviously one of the most worst and most thoughtless decisions ever made by a Montreal team.
For goodness sakes he was just fron over the border. Right there. Thank you Rejean………….
Sorry you all for the rant. Just that way. And we do well.

Post Game Comments (Predictions):
Higgins: (discouraged) We just weren’t ready. It’s pretty tough to hear the fans boo you. We need to turn this around.
Kovalev: (invisible) ………
Carbo: (pissed) I can’t believe I have to call these guys hockey players. It offends me. I can’t believe it! (Kirk Muller comes out and drapes a purple cape around him) Oh loooorrrdd!!
I think you are being harsh. Send him to the minors for a little seasoning. Does not look ready for The Show yet.
don’t agree; the team has enough talent. if gainey stepped in to coach you’d see. might even get to see if gainey still has the energy to do so after the horror of last year’s personal life.
hilarious!
Gainey is the GM. Its called bearing the responsibility. I would not be against him steping behind the bench and see what happens.
My feeling is that Carbo is completely hand-cuffed… nothing is working.
At some point, the players need to be held accountable as well… It seems too easy to simply point at the coaching.
I agree with the thought of we can wear the whites at home!
It would be nice if the result of this losing streak is the firing of Carbo, and Gainey taking over behind the bench. But knowing how quickly Gainey reacts, that will not happen.
spot on on one and two:
carbonneau, however, i think will be pissed but more sulking than direct. the media seems a little afraid of him for some reason. i think they realize from being around him that he’s got a bit of a screw loose and might jump on one of them.
Hypothetical situation: If Carbo and Price had a falling out a la Patrick Roy, who do you think Gainey would get rid of first?
agree on both fronts.
That’s good… LOL.
O’Byrne actually looked good tonight….for a rookie.I like him.
team is young and getting better. lots and lots of young talent. we can only build that way – free agents won’t sign here. we need a more nurturing and better coach. . . that is all.
This, as Huet said, is a team fragile between the ears. On top of that, this team is found wanting in two critical areas:
1. great coaching (i’ll take good coaching if available)
2. talent (albeit there is some budding talent and a couple of vets with good hands, but it’s not enough to help the team win games with any consistency)
So, Habs are pummeled into the ice after feeling good about defeating a tired Boston team that almost turned the tables in the 2nd on Thurs. They lose at home again and the fans let ‘em have it. They let important conference games slip away. I’ve said it many times: Mtl needs at least one or two true power forwards and one more stay at home D who will punish the opposition every shift. And, while the goalkeeping was dull tonight, a better team up front will give our tenders a chance to keep us in games. But, mostly this team desperately needs excellent coaching which it is not getting night after night.
We need to import European fans who wistle for bad plays to get the teams confidence back.
Carbo, coaches are typically cycled through every 3 years, where as Price will have a 15 year career…and Gainey is smarter than Houle.
i hate carbo.
however, if a 20 year old who is supposed to be cool blew up at a veteran player who is his coach, he wouldn’t be price (temperamentally) and you’d have to get rid of the hothead goalie.
The Habs really stunk it out tonight but the officiating sucked even worse and singlehandedly changed the whole game for the Habs. The way we played after the disallowed goal was sickening and hard to watch. We just folded up the tent, then a chincey penalty and it’s 2-0. This season is slipping away sooner than last year.
coaching is what’s lacking. that’s all. we’re not going to be stanley cup contenders but a good coach would get this team into the playoffs. i just hope they don’t do something dumb with the talent when the coach is the problem.
Just saw the replay of the 4th Canes goal… looked like that one deflected off of Markov’s stick, too. Is sure dipped on the way in to Price.

“Vote Saku for All-Star… or little Timmy gets it!!!”
Carbonneau can be thankful of one thing for sure; he is a friend of Gainey’s… Carbonneau as a coach is similar to Brisebois as a player; neither of them deserve to be where they are…It’s time for a change and I do not mean revolving 3rd and 4th liners… Les Canadiens need a coach with a different philosophy. Carbonneau has lost this team, completely lost this team…The new MY NHL has passed him by…
The officiating wasn’t good – but that did not change the outcome of the game! Besides, the Carolina goal that was called back in the 3rd should’ve counted – it was Kovy who knocked Halak with his skate and not the Carolina player!
Power forwards don’t come without a price. We have nothing to offer. Not our youth. That would be a huge mistake.
That would be another sad sad day for Montreal…
I completely agree with you.
Is this what “rock bottom” feels like? I thought last weekend was bad enough, yet I feel we’ve managed to find whole new low.
YES!!! No review I hope!!
The look on Kosti’s face: pure relief!
Something’s gotta give. The “storied” Canadiens, and I use the word “storied” advisedly, can’t score goals. This issue is complicated by the fact that they can’t keep them out of their own damn net either. The PK is offensive…and not in a good way. The PP is decidedly NOT offensive. Even-strength…well, IS there such a thing as “even-strength” against the Canadiens? It seems as though at least three-quarters of the teams in the league are better than them when special teams are not in play. The goaltending, which was supposed to be the team’s strength, has been to goaltending what William Hung is to singing.
The sad part is…these guys have talent. Plekanec, Kovalev, Koivu, Ryder, Higgins, Latendresse, Kostitsyn…they can all score. But are they getting a chance to score? No. The “system” is a problem. And that goes back to coaching. I love Guy Carbonneau. As a player. As a coach…I think I’ll pass.
Price: Not ready for the NHL. Gainey was wrong…a phrase I never thought to utter. But Price isn’t an NHL goalie yet.
Okay…we all know what sucks. Let’s look for some positives in all this:
-No more Carolina games this year.
-Halak only allowed one and a half goals
-O’Byrne didn’t embarrass himself.
-Pleky won a lot of faceoffs
-It’s nearly Christmas
This is making me think there should be some horrible Christmas-carol parodies about the team’s effort tonight. I’ll be back.
the team ranks 15th in the NHL in scoring, albeit 29th in five on five situtations. that’s the problem. if montreal falls behind, the other team just has to be careful not to take a penalty and they win the game.
disagree 100% about Price. Put an NHL ready team in front of the kid and then we can make a fair assessment of him.
The songs were cute, but enough already. We all get the picture.
Maybe the long Christmas road trip will be good for the team this year, given how much better they’ve been playing away from the Bell center.
Some good points JT. However, I would be hesitant to include Lats in that list of talented players, and I’d leave the one-dimensional Ryder out of that list and any ‘B’ list conjured up, too.
Coaching is key to winning with an ‘average’ team like the Habs, and unfortunately Carbo is not opening any doors with a ‘W’ on them (except maybe the ladies room)
Price is ready for the NHL; the problem is, the Habs look more like an ECHL team playing in front of him, which makes his learning curve even steeper than it already is.
Goalies will always give up goals. It’s the TYPE of goal that they give up that worries me. Upon review, three of the four goals that went in on Price tonight were deflections. The fourth was a perfectly-placed shot high off the far post. Those have been the kinds of goals that he’s given up. It’s when goalies give up shots that they should stop all day (for example, Huet and any 35-foot floater) that make me wince. Though he’s still learning, I’d take Price as my goaltender any day.
And it’s not Price that gives up the scoring chances; it’s the team in front of him. Want to cut down his goals against? Have the team in front of him play sound defensive hockey by clearing the opposition out from in front of him to take away the deflection opportunitites. Play tighter against your check so that he doesn’t have time to set up from 10-15 feet out (remember his first game in Pittsburgh?) just like you have to do in front of any NHL goalie for him to be successful.
The kid is still an above .500 goaltender on a team that on the whole hasn’t been supporting their goaltending, and without his stellar saves this evening it would have been 6 or 8 to 1 after the second period.
Price ain’t the problem, folks.

Don’t start downing Cialis yet, we still have a ways to go!
Only one forward with no shots on net … M. Ryder.
Unbelievable!
Andrei K showed great strength there … keep it up Habs! Lots of hockey left, tie it up!
I nearly get a heart attack every time I see Price make a long pass like that… Because I’m sure we’re gonna score!
Nice play by O’Byrne there… Could he originate the turning point for the Habs? Put some fire back in their eyes (and on their arses?)
I guess not.
Hey guys, STOP SHOOTING FROM OUTSIDE THE CIRCLE, Ward is out so far he could be playing defence; lets see a little bit of creativity.
Wow. The effing reffing is incredible. They might as well have started the game 2-0. The called-back goal is a joke, and that call on Kovy right after … what was it even for?
I just get Huet flashbacks inducing heart attack-like symptoms.
Chuck, I don’t hate Price!! I’m afraid for him, if anything, having to play in front of our defensively inept Habs. I think it’s starting to rattle him. Do I think he has been playing great? No, I don’t. Am I crazy?
mmmm, maybe three O’byrnes.
Is it a policy that refs don’t explain what’s going on to players if they’re wearing a wire?
I think it was a penalty for… skating?
Nice play OB
Anybody else notice notice Hamrlik jumping up in the play a little more? Shows some trust in he trust his young lackey.
Saved by the bell! Price pulled a Cristobal right there..
How was Staal’s cross check on Kovalev not a penalty?
Ward looks shakey.
It would be nice to skate with some speed through the neutral zone and expose their Jr. C calbre defense.
We get four next period.
Yes, I’ve noticed it a couple of times in that 1st period.
2 nothing leads don’t last.Price is VERY weak on the stick side and Carolina knows it.
18 shots by Carolina. I need some Carbo kush bud during this intermission.
I think he’s done everything that’s been asked of him. His sole professional experience before making the Habs as a back-up was the Calder Cup run. Essentially, he’s learning to play pro hockey in the NHL.
Price has been fine; it’s the sporadic play of the D in from of him that’s been the problem. In fact, I could probably count on one hand the number of goals that he’s allowed this year that an NHL-calibre goalie should stop… and the more that he plays, the better he’s going to get.

Was that really conclusive? I think that was about as borderline as you can get. Hopefully it gets the team riled up enough to make up for it.
Well, I don’t know if it’s true that the more he plays, the better he will get. I strongly feel that a goalie should be eased into the NHL. I think he’s being rushed, and I think it could seriously affect his confidence and his game. I think Gainey was wrong here … he should have given Price a full year of pro hockey in Hamilton before throwing him into the fire in Montreal. I honestly don’t think he’s ready, and that’s my opinion.
Not sure about that one… the replay didn’t conclusively show that he made an effort with his skate to direct it in. Besides, the was the defender’s stick that was moving Streit’s leg. That one should have counted.

I’d say he pulled a Price! He’s done that more than once in the games he’s played but that was the worst yet!
Rushed, yes… but the question is whether or not he can handle the steep learing curve. Gainey, Timmins, Lever and the rest of the powers-that-be in the organization obviously feel that he has the physical and mental tools to handle it.

Game over. Shit call on the no-goal, shit call on the penalty.
The guy who took out Koivu’s eye and has never been made to pay the price by the Canadiens with a trip to the hospital fires a shot from the blueline and Staal whos done very little all year, burns us like usual
Is that goal not sweet, especially after that brutal give away by Streit on the PP. No wonder he is a team worst at -9. Let’s see if Carbonneau punishes him for that mistake.
too many men?
i thought the same, but i think that toronto sports news (tsn) would take a chunck out of the refs christmas bonus if they gave a pp to the habs, when they could make it a questionable descision and not call it
Now that Carbonneau doesn’t have Samsonov, Perezhogin, or Kovalev that he can blame, seems like he’s finally going to have to start having to look at himself a little more.
Where are all the fans from last year that thought Carbo was a genius and that all the teams problems could be blamed on Kovalev? I’d really like to hear your explanation for the teams woes now…
Impossible. All of Carbo’s mirrors are angled away from himself allowing him to only see others as the cause of the team’s demise.
You mean he’ll be the un-Jim Popp??
First, our goal was good. Second. No matter what you play, do not try to deliberately hurt. So you slide your glove slimey-down and butt-end, left hand side. So who was that schmuck dirt-ball, the refs (hah) missed it but I saw it and No. 8 felt it. So you think he was pissed? Damn right.
Ouch
No one is more disappointed or frustrated at that one than Price.
Another bad play by Chipchura.

Stick side again.3 goals tonight on the stick side.
Bad line change…
Price seems vulnerable to the quick “unexpected” release… Bret Hull style.
Yippee a goal. This is still a mediocre team that can’t score 5 on 5 and has 0, as in No Grit. Any bets on how long it is before Carbo is gone and Gainey is back behind the bench?

i care because the only thing worse then a loss is a loss on a night the leafs win
You are so right! And, your picture is soooo funny. The Habs have the odd moment when they look like a real hockey team, but it’s all just one big tease. They are farther away from the Cup than you or I.

man,it seems like the same story over and again. montreal gets dominated, price looks bad cuz his stats suck. and kovalchuk has as many goals as our leading point getter.
who do we play next?
Carolina announcers are clueless. They said that the Habs put glass behind the Habs bench only 2 years ago.

Hurricanes’ fault!
Price – as they said in Slapshot, “too much, too soon”.
Koivu – I still love the Captain. He is what he is, was never an offensive dynamo (okay, maybe for two months before destroying his knee ten years ago).
Carbonneau – that’s uncalled for, Therrien was MUCH worse, and so was Vigneault, what a boob. Sure, he looks like a genius with Luongo playing for him, but well know he’s a fraud. And Julien is just a zero. So actually, Carbo is the best coach since Demers (to damn him with faint praise).
I like your attitude

Have the Habs packed it in for the night? Score one!
i got an idea: we make and sell a dvd set for the holidays of the first 20 games of the last five seasons, bundled together into one make believe season, and call it ‘what could be…” then we give the proceeds to to gainey so he can overpay for a money hungry sniper.
Glove tap by Price and I agree, Chipper’s totally out of it… Maybe he’s worried about his friend Cory…
whats with cory?
How many times have I seen a player all alone pass the blue line with no one to pass to.
Isn’t Brian Savage a free agent? Maybe we could sign him…
Oh wait, he can only score in the first 20 games of the season. Nevermind.
I hate to say it but is halak coming in the third?
And it’s a rout.
That was a huge mistake…
F’n Over
Price is still not a #1 goalie.
It is going to be a long winter and a boring spring. Too bad!
All over but the shouting.
15 shots on goal in the period. it would seem like they were trying. on paper anyway. i never liked paper though.
price – overrated (though i’m not saying his fault and not saying that he won’t become great)
koivu – sadly time to go
carbonneau – worse than any habs coach since tremblay.
At least the leafs are losing going into the third as well…but it doesn’t make it much better
thank you. send the kid down. doesn’t need this crap; the experiment is over. put huet in for a few weeks. we screwed with his head when price wasn’t ready.
no playoffs this year.
totally agree
sorry, i meant halak
who cares? that’s a loser’s attitude to look at the other also ran. . .
Price needs to improve his reaction time. It is good to be calm. When the puck starts to bounce, the goalie needs to react fast.
never seen a goalie who wasn’t
Urquhart got demoted to the ECHL this week…
Just fire him and he’ll show up somewhere else as an Adams trophy candidate. Oh wait he can’t coach unlike Julien, Therrien, and Vingeault…Nevermind
therrien i thought about. vigneault i disagree; canucks are in first in their division and he was very solid with a crap habs team. julien – ok with habs, ok with devils, ok with bruins. carbonneau – no track record of anything and hasn’t been able to do what gainey did midyear after firing julien to hire his buddy.
compare price to huet. they both get the same players infront of them.
Price has the same number of wins in less games. Neither is being helped very much by the team though.
huet has a half goal a game better gaa as well as a better save percentage. this is the the highest quality habs roster since 1995. i guess that’s not saying much.
Sorry, but anyone who has played or coached the position will quickly see the weaknesses:
-slow lateral movement
-goes down early
-slow glove hand
-left side cheat (often)
And the strengths:
-great positioning (except for that cheat)
-excellent net coverage with his size
-cool composure
To be determined:
-stick work (breakout passes are beauties, but behind the net passes are at times brutal giveaways)
That said, he needs more time in the AHL before he could truly be identified as an NHL ready tender. That’s not a shot against him, because he is talented and shows promise, but he needs some work. Remember, Price has won games, but he has not stolen any or stood on his head to keep the team in a game.
I think they have good players, and I think both goalies are good, and Price will get better. There is soomething else wrong with this team that keeps it from showing up every night.
yes the forwards need to be equipped with personal navigation devices so they can find the offensive zone. the East has such parity that if montreal plays .500 for 60 games, they could put it together for the final 22 games and be a force in the playoffs.
No disrespect intended, but I’m faily certain that Bob Gainey, Don Lever and Rollie Melanson would disagree with your assesment.

None taken. But, keep in mind that the call to keep Price was a very hesitant one. I believe Gainey had more faith in Price’s NHL level development than Carbo (who’d have guessed he was right on this one – shoulda been a scout rather than a coach), so he gave Price a shot. It was not a confident choice, but a hopeful one. Don’t get me wrong, there is still hope but it will burn brighter if he goes back to Hamilton and plays more regularly.
The problem is, he’s ahead of the curve in the learning process. As Don Lever said, it’s the speed of the NHL game that Carey needs to experience to further elevate his game. Playing a boatload of games in the AHL against slower teams isn’t going to help him realize his potential. It would be like taking a gifted kid and having him continually repeat the 11th grade; it’s not going to make that kid any smarter.

Why is it so many Habs fans insist on ripping apart our young players. Seriously, Price is 20 years old. Look over the last 10 years and tell me how many 20-year old goalies have stepped in and lead teams into the playoffs? If the Habs are as bad as everyone makes them out to be then we should all be praising him for having a winning record, even when he does have a bad game. It’s also not his fault that people see him as being an instant saviour to this team. One game he’s Jesus Price, the next game he’s overrated. Get behind the team and support the players…We are a young team building towards something great. Take a look at the roster and prospects now and compare it to 5 years ago and tell me which team you’d rather have. It’s a team on the rise, but it doesn’t mean we should be at the top yet…
only one goal has been price’s fault. Stillman’s at the end of the 1st and it didn’t count. Brind Amour shot was in the top corner from the top of the slot. On Whitney’s goal, Price was screen by Kostopoulous. My hockey knowledge is not on par with the expert’s faulting Price, guess I have much to learn.
never thought he was the second coming. thought he shouldn’t have been here at the beginning of the season – was a bad call. halak deserved the chance. and precisely because of his age. . .
I agree, the Habs have similar talent/style players as Buffalo but yet they don’t show up for half of the games. Ruff keeps his players focused with a proper game plan and happy by letting them play to their strengths.

Since we are all depressed by the sorry state of our Habs I thought I would direct you to some levity. Below I have posted the text to one of the great stand up routines of all time and here is the audio link.http://www.nearlygood.com/audio/5stagesdrinking.html
Larry Miller’s Five Stages of Drinking
LEVEL 1:
It’s 11.00 on a weeknight, you’ve had a few beers. You get up to leave because you have work the next day and one of your friends buys another round. One of your UNEMPLOYED friends. Here at level one you think to yourself, “Oh come on, this is silly, why as long as I get seven hours of sleep (snap fingers), I’m cool.”
LEVEL 2:
It’s midnight. You’ve had a few more beers. You’ve just spent 20 minutes arguing against artificial turf. You get up to leave again, but at level two, a little devil appears on your shoulder. And now you’re thinking, “Hey! I’m out with my friends! What am I working for anyway? These are the good times! Besides, as long as I get five hours sleep (snaps fingers) I’m cool.”
LEVEL 3:
One in the morning. You’ve abandoned beer for tequila. You’ve just spent 20 minutes arguing FOR artificial turf. And now you’re thinking, “Our waitress is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” At level three, you love the world. On the way to the bathroom you buy a drink for the stranger at the end of the bar just because you like his face. You get drinking fantasies. (Like, “Hey fellas, if we bought our own bar, we could live together forever. We could do it. Tommy, you could cook.”) But at level three, that devil is a little bit bigger….and he’s buying. And you’re thinking, “Oh, come on, come on now. As long as I get three hours sleep … and a complete change of blood (snaps fingers), I’m cool.”
LEVEL 4:
Two in the morning. And the devil is bartending. For last call, you ordered a bottle of rum and a Coke. You ARE artificial turf. This time on your way to the bathroom, you punch the stranger at the end of the bar …just because you don’t like his face. And now you’re thinking, “Our busboy is the best-looking man I’ve ever seen.” You and your friends decide to leave, right after you get thrown out, and one of you knows an … after-hours bar. And here, at level four, you actually think to yourself, “Well … as long as I’m only going to get a few hours sleep anyway, I may as well … STAY UP ALL NIGHT!!!! Yeah! That’d be good for me. I don’t mind going to that board meeting looking like Keith Richards. Yeah, I’ll turn that around, make it work for me. And besides, as long as I get 31 hours sleep tomorrow …cool.
LEVEL 5:
Five in the morning. After unsuccessfully trying to get your money back at the tattoo parlor (“But I don’t even know anybody named Ruby!!!”), you and your friends wind up across the state line in a bar with guys who have been in prison as recently as … that morning. It’s the kind of place where even the devil is going, “Uh, I gotta turn in. I gotta be in Hell at nine. I’ve got that brunch with Hitler, I can’t miss that.” At this point, you’re all drinking some kind of thick blue liquor, like something from a Klingon wedding. A waitress with fresh stitches comes over, and you think to yourself, “Someday I’m gonna marry that girl!!” One of your friends stands up and screams, “WE’RE DRIVIN’ TO FLORIDA!!!!!” and passes out. You crawl outside for air, and then you hit the worst part of level five ~~ the sun. You weren’t expecting that were you? You never do. You walk out of a bar in daylight, and you see people on their way to work, or jogging. And they look at you, and they know. And they say, “Who’s Ruby?”
Let’s be honest, if you’re 19 and you stay up all night, it’s like a victory like you’ve beat the night, but if you’re over 30, then that sun is like God’s flashlight. We all say the same prayer then, “I swear, I will never do this again (how long?) as long as I live!” And some of us have that little addition, “……and this time, I mean it!”
A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.
Sir Winston Churchill
OK, the Carolina colour guy just said “the ‘Canes game-plan tonight was to dominate the game 5 on 5″. Isn’t that everybody’s game plan?
umm. . . i remember one in december 1997:
Vincent Damphousse scored 55 seconds into overtime to cap the host Montreal Canadiens’ comeback from a three-goal deficit for a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues last night.
i also think there was one a couple of years later against the redwings but i think they ended up losing
Yikes. Put Price back in.

Any minute now Patrick Roy is going to walk into the building, go to the Habs bench, spit on Carbo, and tell Gillet that he’s through with the Habs. It’s actually gotten that bad!

I think Guy has run out of ideas, considering hes shockingly left the lines intact.
Haha, and now the Canes get gypped. What goes around comes around. I maintain, however, that the refs put their stamp on this one in the first ten minutes. Crap game, in large part attributable to bad refereeing … they set the dynamic of the whole game.

Sad….maybe Monday something will happen. We need a coach.Don’t blame the players.
This team has zero grit. ZERO. We need players who can score and hit and fight and scrap for every inch of ice along the boards.
Players who do that for this team??
Koivu?
This team has a european sickness. Show me a team that won the Cup in the last 20 years with nothing but soft players as their leaders.
If we want to win on a constant basis we need to cut the fat, and fast.
Now I want to hear what Carbo has to say after the game. I can’t wait.
So a show of hands….
Who still thinks Huet should be traded?
Still, if you deny the goal on the pretense that Halak was interfered with, then how do you not give the Canes a penalty for goaltender interference?

Didn’t we go over this already? Cyrillic is a complex language with various Arabic alphabet interpretations. Whatever’s in the Habs’ press kit is probably the way the kid wants his name spelled.

You go into the corner and get crunched really hard one of two things happens:
a)You turn away at the last moment or slow up and concede the puck.
b)You accept that you may get hurt or be sore later tonight, but roar in and make sure that if you lose the puck, you force your opponent to make that same decision the next time.
The Habs do alot of A…
i wouldn’t call tampa a ‘hard’ team.
The Canadiens don’t have “nothing but soft” players. A look at the roster might remind you of that.
Personally I would love to see the Habs pick up some Europeans who could score.
I would agree, IF the team was playing well defensively which is supposed to be his specialty. But they’re not. They don’t win faceoffs, and they give up tons of shots a game. If he can’t teach them defense, then what good is he?
Give Jimi Hendrix a guitar with two strings, and he’ll still make it sound decent, at the least.
no, it would be stupid to make a decision based on one game, especially since the team didn’t come to play.
Yup… we don’t have many players with substantial market appeal.
… but not until Price has sufficiently ripened. (He has until February)
Part of developing into the NHL is learning to deal and fight through adversity. Price has the “on ice” talent and potential, but still needs to learn what it means to be an NHL starter. I believe he’ll get there… in relatively short delay. However, until then we need to provide him with the appropriate support. We didn’t do that tonight.
An NHL player shouldn’t NEED to be TAUGHT how to win a face-off or any other rudiments of the game! Come on! It’s not kindergarten. Give Jimi a guitar with two strings and he’ll make it sound like a guitar with two strings, I say.
and how about the fact carbonneau led us through the same thing last year? and we blamed the flu.
nope; carbo cannot get the team back when we’re down and he starts to get sulky. not a leader behind the bench. same crap as last year – he has GOT to go.
Let’s not blame Price. Carolina is playing like a team in midseason form
Montreal is playing like they have not stepped on the ice together in a year.
No chemistry. Terrible passing. Shot attempts that either graze the puck, miss the net, or get blocked easily by a defender. Humiliating cough-ups, amateur mistakes, just plain horrible!
So what good is a coach if he isn’t supposed to instill and get the players to execute a defensive strategy that works?
Fine, they can’t score. That can be excused by saying they just dont have the talent up front to dominate a game offensively. But, this year they have legitimate top 3 defenseman, good goaltending on most nights, and a crapload of defensive forwards (Supposedly).
Whats the excuse for regularly giving up 35+ shots a game?
The NHL is not school. If you haven’t learned fundamentals by the time you are called on, you shouldn’t have been called on. Coach Guy isn’t there to teach. He is there to formulate a plan for the players to execute. He has some good players, I exaggerate how bad the team is, but he is shorthanded IMnotsoHO. Thank you.
the team is more talented than you think. they just don’t get anything but immaturity from carbo. . . the silent treatment, the line changes, the random benchings. . . i can’t stand the guy.
amen
Really? Do the players know? They are playing like it!
You are spot on as my favourite hockey analysts would say. My last post was redundant after reading yours. Thank you.
I think Gainey’s job is on the line too. He can’t take credit for what Timmins has done prospect wise.
Thats ridiculous.
I said players who can score and fight for ice and along the boards.
Want to point some of these guys out?
Any team can grab guys like Tom Kosopulous and Begin, that doesnt make your team tough to play against.
bang on as always Gillies
That is classic. Sure glad I dont know anybody like that. Thank you.
I dont think “credit” is the right word for what Timmins has done. Thank you.
I would challenge you to find players as scrappy as Vinny and St. Louis who are even close to as dangerous on Montreal. Most of the Canadiens scoring players disappear after a hit or two, thats why Ryder is useless this year. Teams are not giving him any room at all and he is responding by gripping his stick so tight he cant get back to his game. Koivu tries his best but he is too small to simply power through all opposing players.
I’d like to see a team try and intimidate Vinny. Oh yeah…Iginla Nieminen tried in the finals a few years ago…they failed.
We are missing that player who refuses to lose and has the skills to back up his desire.
Time for the third. Glad I’ve got a Scotch in my hand. This one’s gone.
After 2 periods, the top Carolina forwards are still getting much more ice time than the Canadiens. The totals for Carolina are Brind’amour 16:01; Williams 13:52; Larose 13:17; and for Montreal Kovalev 12:21; Kostitsyn 12:21; and Koivu 11:54.
There are 2 forwards on Carolina with ice time of 2:34 & 4:28 respectively, while the least for any Canadiens’ forward is 7:04. Who wants to bet that Carbonneau shortens the bench in the 3rd, or will he continue to rest the forwards & roll 4 lines?
Also, a really bad stat is that the Canadiens have 14 give aways & 3 take aways.
I think Coach Guy should have dressed Ryder tonight. Thank you.
Um he did??
He did… I woundn’t have.
I say we give Ryder the Mark Recchi treatment.
Ahahaha!
Ryder did play tonight Gilles Poisson.
If he stops dropping to his knees those stop going in.
… and blocker side. they’ve gone there reliably and are going there often.
You’re right on that one. He employs the butterfly style, but no one has told him yet that a big goaile doesn’t have to do that.
If it doesn’t hit him, he ain’t gonna stop it. You get him going side to side and he’s fucking toast!
Hey, I actually like the songs!
Kiss my musical ass.
Me too… appreciate the effort.
Is that a musical ass or a lyrical one? just for clarification.
You’re a class act.
Both…I’m thinking of the music in my head when I write the lyrics!
I appreciate the compliment, considering the fact that you’ve attempted to slag me at every turn outside of this one post! Thanks a lot.
everyone has the right to his/her opinion. i don’t know moey but tend to agree; a few songs are ok but they get old. having said that, it’s none of my business if they come out or not; i just skip them.
no need to be so harsh in return, though, j.t. kind of out of character from you it seems but maybe “mo e” has an “m.o.” i don’t know about.
J.T.
I would never be pompous enough to tell you to stop. So keep them coming, some people seem to enjoy them.
hey J.T. for once I am not being sarcastic so I hope you keep right on doing what you do. You may not welcome praise coming from a pariah like me but I have always appreciated the way you conduct yourself and I enjoy your posts and keep the Christmas carols coming please. Thank you.
When a team isn’t putting out the effort that you know they can it usually has to do with the coach. Carbonneau wants to blame everyone but himself. I really think the coach has something to do with this but I don’t think Gainey will remove Carbo. Is it really time to panic? Gainey is not the type to do so and that is why he gets paid the big bucks. He watches the game and I’m sure he knows a lot more than we do.
Gainey has to make a move before the season is lost. I remember the passion with which we played when Gainey was the coach and got us into the playoffs and almost beat the eventual Stanley Cup winner had it not been for a high stick. Friends are friends but this is hockey. It’s a professional sport and the players are not playing up to that standard. If it were only up to the players we could blame them but the coach is there to both motivate and to implement strategy to counter the opposition strengths. People who pay money to see the games shouldn’t be subjected to the crap we witnessed tonight and against Detroit and Nashville etc ad infinitum. No wonder they have no confidence. He put’s the blame on them. It’s been over a hundred games now and it’s clear that this is not working out. I think there is talent on this team but half the talent has already mailed it in and will not win for this coach.
couldn’t have said it better.
we should of picked up M. Recchi off of waivers.
an undersized forward who can’t score at even strength? aren’t they required by law to play for the Habs?
Hard work pays off… that’s what a fourth line needs to do
When is the next Boston game?
there lies the irony… LOL
At least someone got it. Thank you.
they still didn’t get it Gillies.
HAHAHAHAH,
sorry, but I’m tired, a 11 hour drive from New Carlisle today has my funny bone all tickled up at 2AM
Thank you <———— AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
not three seconds after I post this… somebody chooses to drive the net. I like it when I’m right.
If every time we head up ice we’re going to choose to shoot before even reaching the face off circle, we’ll score… never. Take the puck to the bloody net. harrrrd.
wow. not much to say exept that im out guys, have a good night im not sticking around for this and the 3rd period. Going to watch an x-mas movie, at least they have happy endings haha
So dispite their poor play of late the Habs are still in the thick of the playoff race (only 1 point out of 4th place). I really hope that Gainey doesn’t deliberate too long on making some kind of change before they slip out of contention.
True the are only 1 point out of 4th, but an honest 7th place in the conference and on a slide while the Pens and Leafs are moving up and playing better hockey of late. If they continue on this slide – and mark my words they will if some serious changes don’t occur soon – they will be out of the playoff race by the end of January.
WTF Matt Cullen with 23 assists ?!?! He has more assist than any habs player have points!

Price will be a great goalie, but he needs to work on a couple of things, his five hole and staying on his f’ing skates.
Halak for Period #3. Price needs a rest. Had to happen some time. But where’s the defence tonight?
O’Byrne -2, shit… I wish they won’t loose patience with the kid. Let him play 10 games at least!

haahahahahahahaha… nice
I am sure Ryder would love to leave a sinking ship.Just where are you coming from.Think hockey sense.I agree with howtathor.
Imagine theres no Habbies (do de doo de doo)
It isnt hard to do
Nothing to get drunk and rave about
And no Michael Ryder too.
Imagine all the Habs fans
with something else to do ooo ooo
You may say
Im a drunkard
but I’m only the best looking one.
I hope someday you will join me
and you’ll see it is just in fun.
Thank you.
LOOK past Ryder think coach.
I was at the game that was absoulutly awful.so frustrating, th habs really can’t score 5 0n 5!!
I’ve always been a great fan of Michael Ryder. A couple of years ago, I was all set to go out and buy a Ryder jersey, for my wife of course, until I got to the store and saw the price tag. Let’s just say my wife loves the long sleeved t-shirt I bought her, for a hell of a lot less than the asking price of a jersey with a name on it. Anyway, I hate to say it but, I think Ryder has finally worn out his welcome in Montreal. He’s playing hard but, damnit, if your forte is goals, then ya gotta score goals!!!! I think Ryder will stay on the team until the trading deadline and, depending on what position the Habs are in, he’ll most likely get traded for a draft pick, at least. Hey, all things considered, he hasn’t done too shabby for a 9th round draft pick!
Carey Price needs a couple of games off to recoup. This is too much for a rookie who should be in Hamilton honing his skills.
Ryder’s playing his butt off out there, really playing hard. It’s like when you own a bar and you have a retarded guy washing the dishes for you. It’s not easy to send him packing. Thank you.
am i the only one sick of the after game comments… the boos are tought … we got to keep them in our heads … they we’re right to boo us…
But then Carbo said domething that was quite interesting, when he talked about not putting the blame on the young players beeing that they we’re on a learning curve…
if i did’nt know better i’d say that’s the thinking of a team in reconstruction.
In the lost & found box of the habs locker room you can probebly find the following
* Koivu’s legs
* Ryder’s scoring touch (no shot on goals tonite… way to get the message)
i’m watching the pens VS canuck games… watching the pens play reminds me that finishing last a couple of years in a row has it’s perks… maybe that’s what the habs should do, at least we’d be loosing for some good reason. we could even enjoy watching a team progression instead of the constant level of averageness our habs have been displayed in the last decade.
Go HABS Go
Anyone think that the Bell Center will start chanting “Fire Carbo” a la Atlanta?
I think Gainey would do a better job behind the bench than Carbo. I know it`s easy to blame the coach, but a coaching change can have a large positive impact on a team. Look at Columbus and Atlanta. You can make the argument that Bob Hartley is a very good coach, however he obviously lost the room and his players weren`t putting in an honest effort.
The thing is a few years ago they were a team without any talent (Jonas Hoglund, Patrick Poulin…) but they played hard every night and every shift and with Theo on top of his game they were able to steal a few game, but the effort was there.
Now they have some talent, but the team has stopped playing. I can understand when they loose but when they don’t even show up it is inexcusable!
Recorded the game and turned it of at the end of the first, poor Price,at times he looked like the only Hab on the ice.Maybe ask some of the fans at the Bell to lace em up,couldn’t be worse than Ryders showing!Hate to say it ,but if we want this mess fixed or changed, keep the BOOOing going. It’s heart breaking but an effective tool for change.
Nice analogy!!! ROFL!!!!!
True… hate to say it for the players’ sake, but there’s power in the collective voice of the people. The fans are the bread and butter of a team’s support and if they aren’t pleased (with good cause) then management, staff, and players should hear it loud and clear.
I wonder if Bob Hartley is salivating at the prospect of coming to coach the Habs? I wonder if the other Bob is considering him?
have’nt we’ve seen that movie before… Bob fired julien, went behind the bench… made the playoff to loose in 6 games in the first round. maybe they should try a trage first… the core of this team seems rotten
Go HABS Go
So Mike Boones are you home yet? I have a bone to pick. Actually I just wanted to thank you for the nice job you did blogging the game, especially for those not unfortunate enough to have watched it. Thank you.
Gainey would have to consider Hartley, as he can speak french. Are there currently any other coaches with NHL experience that speak french availible?
Ouch…
Cole joked after the game that even he was trying to egg on the hostile Bell Centre crowd.
“Towards the end of the game I was booing from the penalty box for the fans, just trying to start something for them,” he said. “We addressed it. You can get the crowd turned on them a little bit.”

Wow. When the other team is booing you that is a problem. Thank you.
Who gives a flying f if they can speak french or if they dont. Man no need to pick form a shrunken pool of candidates jeez
we lost to the eventual Stanley Cup winners. We also lost Koivu who was dominant during the series after Justin Williams decided to try to carve his eye out with his stick.
I’m home. I’m decompressing with two Guinnesses and then I’m going to sleep this off and watch football on Sunday.
Thing is, I’m a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. And they’re going to get beat worse than Canadiens … albeit while offfering greaer resistance..
Non. I think “the streak” ends tomorrow. And Gilles Poisson is not talking about Ray Stevens. Thank you.
In fact, and I don’t normally do this… I am guaranteeing the win for the Steelers tomorrow. Thank you.
the Steelers will give the Pats all they can handle and more on Sunday. Usually like to bet bigger amounts but a twoonie says the steelers cover the spread.
I’d *almost* be willing to take that bet!

LOL i’ve never laughed so much on this site before.
Let’s just top this off with what we think would be absolutely RIDICULOUS trades lol.
I love it when fans do that.
“DUDE, BOB GAINEY SHOULD TRADE RYDER FOR LECAVALIER”
OH and anybody notice Harmlik got himself a new pair of skates :O!
He is now wearing the Alex Kovalev skate. the RBK 9k pumps… they’re freakin gorgeous… they AUTOMATICALLY make you look like a better skater.
Thank god i am way to drunk to watch the pvr as i heard the brutal score. Carbo is once again on the hot seat and i think there will be a trade by tuesday. I am off to bed. oh well as a wise man once said “giggy giggy, alright” glen quagmire.

HAHAHA, nice
Cole shouldn’t boo the players that pay part of his salary through welfare sharing.
Why do you think the last 4 coaches have had NO experience and 3 of them have come from the QMJHL? Imagine how pissed the french media would be if the captain AND the coach couldn’t speak french. I’m not saying it is right but it seems to have become a requirement for the head coach of the Canadiens to speak french.
I don’t know if he was bilingual or not but Al MacNeil may have been the last coach who didn’t speak french.
You’ve made my first cup of coffee that much better this morning.
There is some good reading this morning Mr Yeats. I find it much easier when the words aren’t moving around the screen. Mr. Wonderful posted an absolute claasic. Thank you.
Save by the bell! That will teach Price a lesson.
How come no one advise Komisarek to stay back during PK. He has given up so many goals by moving out of position. Either our players didn’t follow instructions or our coaches are incompetence.
Incompetent coaches.
Listen to the boos … can’t blame them, how many times have I paid hundreds of dollars to watch the Habs get creamed? This one only cost me a ten dollar bottle of wine, thank goodness. I STILL can’t drag myself away to hit the staff party, I need to watch the third, what is WRONG with me?
There is just nothing good going on here. The offence is weak, the defence is weak, and this is probably Price’s weakest game so far. Anyone out there got a silver lining?
J’accuse the entire team, all three coaches, the GM, all the scouts, and the president too!
How long before talk of the Patrick Roy curse starts to sound serious?
a. hit the party
b. i don’t blame gainey or boivin, realizing you’re being sarcastic
They had better hurry up and retire number 33!

The Roy curse will be broken if the hire him to coach or retire his number. I think currently they are in need of a better coach than more banners in the rafters.
I agree with that. In my opinion, some people are too quick to blame the goaltender. Carolina was doing what they wanted in our zone, no goaltender would have won us this game.
And keep in mind that if Carey was really the problem he would have been pulled right after the fourth goal, and not replaced to start the 3rd period.

i don’t think JT (or me, earlier) mean to blame price. He is the victim of the system, but it’s not appropriate to have him up here right now and I agree with everything she said.
And the problem is that sending him down to Hamilton doesn’t do his development any good, either. He’s proven that he’s ready to accept the challenge of the faster NHL game; playing for Hamilton against a bunch of slower career AHL’ers noes nothing to grow his talent.
He’s got a good head on his shoulders, so unless Gainey thinks that he’s not ready to handle being on a team that’s facing adversity, he won’t be going back to Hamilton. After all, you have to learn how to handle losing before you can call yourself a winner. The current state of the team is just another learning experience for the kid.

carolina announcers are so brutal. . . such homers.
i’m so sick of his phrase “canadiens shot but ward says NO!” so repetitive. be glad you can’t hear it.
he has now, in the past two games, suggested that:
a. ward is the best goalie in the nhl (last game)
and
b. eric cole is the best power forward in the nhl (tonight)
brutal. . .
I was watching that feed because I walked the dog in the first intermission.
Seriously, Carolina doesn’t look like any hell tonight either. Their defense is weak and prone to turnovers.
It’s funny how garbage goals can be so satisfying!

I’m going to send “Career Opportunities” out to my boy #73. It would be too easy to send Cheapskates out to Gillette but that hasn’t been the case. I’ll send “Cool under heat” out to Price…he’ll be ok. I’ll send “Deny” out to my favourite hockey analysts here. And I’ll drink a beer in honour of my man Joe Strummer. Thank you.
he kicked it in. no goal
I’m assuming this poll was done during tonight’s game? I bet if the same poll question was done during the first period of last game the score would have been about 15% or less.
is that point # 1 for boullion?
There was no kicking motion there, just a continuation from his drive to the net. This will get called no goal like usual, because its ok for players from new jersey to body check Jeff Hacket out of the net and score, but any borderline call will go against us.
Even if this loss is Price’s fault, it’s no cause for calling him overrated. Goalies have good games and bad games…how was Luongo at the start of this year? How about Brodeur? Better yet…how has #1 overall Fleury been playing this year….4 goals is probably close to a median performance for him this year. He may lose us the odd game, but these things happen.
this was not Price’s fault
Thank you for my mistake. Thank you.
Exactly…
The problem is, many folks just listen to the hype about Price’s promise, and figure that he should get a shutout every game. They forget that he’s still learning, just as the rest of the youngsters on this team are.

hey Mike – easy on the steady negativity – it’s like listening to Al Strachan
WHAT? It looked (at least on TV) like the puck was already in before he “kicked” it in.
He didn’t even kick it anyway!!!
This game is like a very slow and painful death. Sort of like having your guts scooped out with a spoon.
FIRE CARBO
The refs are actually evening up the calls to make this look good on paper. Sickening. A-holes!
Wow. I skipped my staff party for this, and I would do it again … but that period was hard to swallow. It was not as one-sided as the shot-totals would suggest. Should be all square at 1-1, but this time a truly outrageous reffing job really puts the screws to the Habs. Where in the !$%#!! is the kicking motion on that goal? I don’t even think it touched his skate. That is BALONEY. And then to call that phantom penalty right after … that is maddening.
Another Saturday night of sucky hockey, let’s all get drunk and puke!
I believe Montreal is playing better than the 8 shots they got.Nothing sucky about their play.
I’m still down for getting drunk and puking though! oh yaaa.
Am I the only one who would like to see Larose take a cross-check to the mouth and bust that stupid grin right off his his face…
two goals during the power plays, then pull the goalie for the last 5 minutes, score two more, and win in o.t. i’m not a betting man but i see it happening.
We need to score on 5-3…

Should I commit or should I go

Should I stay or should I go now

A Habs win let’s just forget

Yea, I think you’re right!
at least you provided one highlight tonight, yeats.
Here’s what I think we need for lines. Two good scoring lines, (or at least that is their function) a third line that should be able to score and play well defensively) and a fourth grinder line. If they had Begin he would be the perfect fit for the fourth line instead of Streit. The fourth line is so important for going out there and creating havoc, changing the tempo. They have to all be tough. Streit is not only not tough, he loses too many battles for the puck. I know when Gainey let Murray go he wanted to make room for the young guys, but really, you need a young guy to play that role. With the line-up as posted the third and fourth lines are basically the same. One tough, defensive player short.
According to TSN, the lines for tonight’s game will be as follows:
Higgins-Koivu-Ryder
Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev
Latendresse-Chipchura-Dandenault
Streit-Lapierre-Kostopoulos
Markov-Komisarek
Hamerlik-O’Byrne
Boullion-Brisebois
Price
I’d really like to see Gorges on D and the Breeze in the pressbox.
You can’t win, if you can’t score. Let’s stop bitching about the refs once and for all. Our offense is about as effective as a mesh condom!

dont complain about offense with two defensemen as forwards.
Anybody getting the feeling the players have lost all trust in their coaches deicions?
Perhaps, but I get the feeling that our forwards just plain suck.
Yes, I grew up in the Bronx. And, you are right about the “talent.” But I had to take two years of Spanish in college at Columbia. I still can sing the Shafer Malta jingle. Shafer ceveza y esta una…..
any news on the lines and who’s sitting tonight?
I agree with your assessment and I hope he plays well. As you said, Ryder’s had lots of shots and lots of powerplay time. Even though he’s not been on the top line, he’s still getting time on the powerplay where he had most of his goals last year. In my opinion, there is no real reason to blame Carbonneau for this situation. Ryder’s had lots of opportunity to snap out of his funk. Let’s hope he does tonight.
Wouldn’t it be nice to actually see this team play well and win games at home?
Somebody go get the ghosts from St. Catherine’s St over there soon!
Killer instinct would be nice too!
is Ryder coming back on the first line?

fearless prediction:
Ryder 2g 1a tonight
Nothing sucky about their play?? Carolina had 18 shots in the period. Res ipsa loquitur, which is latin for: “They just plain sucked! I’ve seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.” (Homer Simpson)
On a side note, did anyone see Cherry’s outfit on Coach’s Corner? I think that he was smoking some of Carbo’s weed… very psychedelic!

“Vote Saku for All-Star… or little Timmy gets it!!!”
And very hard to look at.
Erik Cole played NCAA D-1 for Clarkson University, not exactly a hockey powerhouse down here in the lower 48, and he outshines all of our guys with the sexy European pedigrees every time we play the Canes. Explain it to me, please.
You can of course, play the odds!
Obviously goals have to be reviewed in Toronto, no chance on getting away with anything
The top Carolina forwards are getting much more ice time than the Canadiens. After the first it is:
Brind’amour 8:09
Williams 7:56
Larose 7:19
Stall 7:09
Kovalev 6:36
Kostitsyn 6:21
Plekanec 6:09
The good news is that the Canadiens won 58% of the faceoffs, but the bad news is they were outshot 18-8, & outscored 2-0.
YES YES YES!
That’s what happens when you don’t give up!
JUST LIKE THAT!
What sniper do we posess that you would put in their place. This team’s forwards just plain suck. I mean really, aside from a bunch of bullshit pickup goals, what has Higgins done?
