I’m not knocking Darche, I like what he brings (for the most part). I just don’t agree with putting him in over Sergei. The Caps are all about offence….we need to defend them but we also need offence to beat them. Why not put our more offensive players in?
Yea… don’t know how I feel about that. SK can actually pull out all the stops and score if a good opportunity is found. He can be a game changer. We’ve seen him have a 3 pts game this year.
the key is not to get too high for the first 15min and get gassed for the rest of the game…it only works if we get 2 goals ….better to play reserved but with the crowd noise that will be hard
This might be a good option. does it work well? A poster above suggested some streaming site, though I dont want to sit through a buffering screen, or lag while Cammy scores the GWG.
Do I listen to pop music because I am miserable? Or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
There was a moment in the game when Halak gave up a goal, pulled up his mask, and was squeezing water from his gatorade bottle. He was struggling with the bottle, shaking, and his eyes had a look of fear in them. We both looked at each other at the same time, and said man he is nervous.
I think it was bull how much they were allowed to run Jaro, and we will have trouble if they continue to swallow the whistle. I don’t want to be one of those crazy conspiracy types, and one game is just one game. It still bothers me, and worries me.
One of the details i really enjoyed from game 1 was the Moen hit after the whistle on the icing call. We killed off the two minutes with ease, and kept the Washington D on guard. The caps are only dangerous when their confidence as a team is on the rise (and it doesn’t take much for that to happen).
Also, the timing on the Gomez fight in game two might have been ill advised, but the gesture gets a BIG thumbs up from fans like me. These are the playoffs, and if your number 1 centre is will to fight a 6’3 215lbs defencemen (perhaps some NYR history with the two) then every player on the team needs to activate their grit and passion to full blast.
I totally agree with what you’re saying, but it’s possible that there’s connection between the Caps getting into his crease and the dip in Halak’s performance. I don’t see the Caps letting up, so I hope the refs call it closer.
Who cares about whether or not a few ignorant fans boo? I’m sure that Carey doesn’t. And the playoffs are about winning, not protecting someone’s feelings. If Jaro isn’t getting it done tonight, then you’ve got to make the switch before the game gets out of hand.
That said, I fully expect Jaro to have used to day off yesterday to do some reflecting, and will be back at the top of his game tonight.

“But as an authority on goaltending, my great and good friend David Stubbs, points out, goalies adhere to routines.
Jaro is not being Jaro. And that’s worrisome.”
On man….that makes my stomach turn. You know that “we’re gonna lose” sinking feeling in your stomach? Well, Boone’s line makes me feel that way.
Not that I necessarily think the Habs will lose tonight. In fact, they just have to keep doing what they’ve been doing as, while they are clearly playing against a more skilled team, they are holding their own and making things close.
My concern is also Halak. While I think/hope he will bounce back strong tonight, I wonder if Ovie chirping about him being nervous will get to him or not. Boone is right in that tonight is likely the defining moment in Halak’s career and I am expecting big things from him.
Deep breath. Exhale. This is going to be a doozy! Gotta get the first goal!
I have been accused my some of being a Price “fanboy” and such and I have on occassion used that accusation to have some fun to poke back this year (Halaka) but truth be told, I couldn’t care less who’s name is on the jersery as long in any position as long they play with pride and respect. I witnessed many Goalies come and go over the years beginning with the Plante unlike many here who began to watch our Habs when Roy was King. Saying that, I think Jaro deserves and will start tonight. However, a couple of thoughts come to mind.
1. Jaro didn’t finish the season strong but he started Game 1 and made key saves throughout. The shot totals, as is usually the case with WAS, were high but many were routine. As long as you can control the rebound and your D is in position to clear you limit the scoring opportunities. Our D game limited time and space, clogged passing lanes, and WAS began missing the net. Jaro played well early and the Team took over the game for a win.
2. In Game 2, much of the same from the 2nd half of game 1 continued until the 3rd period. In desperation, WAS put on a full frontal push for offense at the risk of odd man rushed against. This was the 1st real test for Jaro this series and he flubbed on 3 goals…the OV poke between his legs (puck never should have touch ice) and the 2 glove save misses from 30′ out. As in 90% of goals against you can look at the D to blame as well as was the case with backing in on both the final game tying goal and the OT winner.
3. Can Jaro bounce back tonight? It will be a good test of his mental strength and I hope he ciomes through with flying colours. The team should be high as a kite in the 1st 10 minutes and come out blazzing putting the pressure back on the the weaker WAS D and Goalie(s) and it needs to continue throughout the game. Jaro as always needs to make the key saves until we win back the battle for momentum. If he doesn’t then he needs to go just as Theo was in game 2. It’s not a knock on Jaro but the game is bigger than one player. As has been stated by Martin and Co. both Goalies are capable and IMO a loss tonight will be the 1st of the finishing nails needed by WAS take this series.
My last point is the D. OV told Boudreau to switch his playing wing and it worked. Unless Spacek can play both sides, JM needs to adjust his D lines to reduce the impact OV has on the game. Hammer couldn’t do it. Fearless prediction of the day is WAS goes as OV does. 1 goal and 3 assists in Game 2 after being held off the scoresheet the 1st game tells the whole story. Perhaps a 4-1 lead un-focused our players a bit but they can’t let up on this guy for 1 shift because we haven’t anywhere near the firepower WAS has probably won’t have the luxury of scoring on our 1st 2 shots.
It may be over-simplifying the game, but OV is the game. Reduce his impact and have a chance to win…if not GAME OVER no matter who is nets.
Although I think Halak should be the one starting tonight. It’s my opinion that Price is on a shorter leash with the home town crowd than with JM. All it’ll take is one goal (bad or good) before the boo birds show up and start chanting for Jaro or Huet or something stupid like that.
The only way your going to get the fans to support Price is if Halak has a poor performance. Price doesn’t need to be battling both the home crowd and Washington. Let Halak start tonight. See how it goes from there.
I admire and respect the work Jaro has put to get to where he currently is, i really do. Despite being a “CP guy”, i think Jaro undoubtdely needs to play the rest of the playoffs. I explain myself.
Jaro and Halak will give us an overall similar performance from the goaltenting position right now. Despite their different styles and short storied pasts, Halak and Price are TODAY capable of similar overall perfomances. There is no urgent need to play Carey. There is no urgent need to remove Jaro from the starting lineup. Doing so would mess with Jaro’s phsyhe, reduce his off season value and not necessarily bring us more assurance from out net minders in this series. Throwing Carey to the wolves in front of the unique montreal crowd (playoff crowd especially) is a huge risk.
Our team is not yet at a level where a small increase in our goalie’s performance would represent the difference between being a Stanley Cup favorite or not. We are in a learning stage, with many of our core players in the initial stages of multi year contracts. Allowing Halak to gain confidence and to be our clear cut number 1 for the rest of the playoffs will do much towards his confidence and his off season value. Once we’re able to look back at our season and assess our summer needs (keeping in mind the team’s financial status), we’ll be grateful to have given Jaro a full number 1 treatment down the stretch and in the playoffs.
Carey will be cheaper than Jaro and will likely require fewer years on his contract. He also still represents the better future goalie in many’s eyes (including the organization’s imo). It is not worthy to risk anything with him at the moment. It is however very worthy to allow Halak’s confidence and value to increase.
Give me a first and a third rounder for Jaroslav Halak in the off season (once he signs for 3-4.5M per year elsewhere) and a reasonable contract to Carey and our team looks even better for the future.
I beleive you can watch it on nhl.com for the same deal. 2 or 3 bucks. But i’m not sure about the exact price. Also, there’s always free live streaming that you can find in the internet…
I don’t know if the Caps have gotten into his head, but they have certainly gotten into his crease. For goaltender interference being something that the refs were supposed to watch closely the Caps got away with running Jaro all night Saturday, if they call it closer he should be fine.
Tough decision for JM. Personally I would like to see Price between the pipes tonight. Jaro has been pretty average in four of the Hab’s last five tilts and the Caps have gotten into his head. Price played exceptionally well aginst the Caps this year. And starting Price tonight still gives you the time to go back to Halak. All that being said, I think Halak gets the nod and his performance tonight determines whether we see Price in game 4 or not. I hope he regains his form.
I STRONGLY disagree. This is not for his career – it’s one game. This is the problem with habs fans. It’s ONE game. We lose? So what, still lot’s more hockey to be played including yet another home game. Jaro will have to be sharp, but one cannot blame him for the loss unless he completely falls apart.
This is Washington. Expect 5 goals or more. That much is guarunteed. Can our forwards match them? That’s all that matters, not whether we have Roy in net.
Yes, when I went to the game last year, the had shut down the street next to the Bell Centre, and there was live music, and beer etc. (I hope they’re doing it this year) But there’s a name for it, I just forget what it is.
I am confident as well…the Habs have proved that they can either stop the Caps or score with them. Keep Halak in, to pull him would be throwing him to the wolves and to put Price in would be throwing him to the wolves. Halak got us in to the playoffs, it will be up to him to keep the team in the playoffs (unless the team is down 3-1, then put Price in).
And remember the words of Ryan Miller on Saturday:
“It doesn’t matter in what order you win the games, you just need to win four games.”
Big Game tonight. Confident that we’ll win…but it may be a high scoring affair again….. If the Caps are going to crash the net again…Halak is gonna hafta be strong and start throwing in some pushes and shoves……Or else…if they get to him again……May see Price
Should be interesting to see how the refs call the goalie interference tonight on both ends. The odd games are the key games. 1-3-5-7. Win tonight guarantees we have at least a Game six at home. My guess is that Boudreau tries to simplify things tonight and has his team playing defense. If he doesn’t, it will be a helter skelter series that could go either way.
I’m with you all the way. I can only be reminded of the game where in the last minute, down one, Sk backed off when going into the corner – the Caps are incredibly offensive but they are also big and grinding as well and you need to take the hit and play the man.
What I do like is that my Man Metro is in! I hope he can win some faceoffs.
In all honesty, it is probably fair game…I mean, how many times after a loss this season have the Price-haters said that Price was too busy crying to win the game or some such nonsense?
Still, it remains that Halak lost 4 of his last five “Must Win” games so it can’t be stated he is a Winner in the big games unless he pulls it off tonight in a very convincing way. You earn your starter position in the playoffs with solid play through the season, but if towards the end of the year and starting the playoffs you are losing those big games, it can’t be argued you are a big game player when you’re losing the big ones at the most critical stage.
Fair enough..maybe not you exactly but in this wonderful HvP debate, we have always had “if H/P were in, we’d have won”…moreso with Halak earning the #1 spot…but you gotta admit, against NYI and TO and Game #2, he did not look good, against Carolina, he was abandoned, but Game #1 was all Halak….if we really want to nitpick – 5 big games and he is 1-4…not fair to do, but with so many convinced of his greatness…
Less than great? That’s giving a lot of credit where none is deserved. Look at your own bias before calling out other people for having biases. Halak let in 5 goals on 15 shots over the last 22 minutes of the game on Saturday. That’s not “less than great”, it’s atrocious. If Price had done the same thing you’d be leading the lynch mob on this site with Shiloh.
Yah I think RDS and TSN are the only networks that broadcast the games (besides maybe Versus for Caps fans). All of the the online feeds are usually taken from one of those two networks also.
Do we really need to start this HvP debate again? Halak is in net tonight as he should…the more important thing is: SK74 over Darche/Lapierre????
I am not worried about the effect this would have on AK46…he has his own stuff to worry about, like maintaining his performance…5 points in 2 games…not too shabby at all…besides, he has never appeared to be a prima donna or a headcase, just very inconsistent…
this is how its going to be, like it or not. Halak will start tonight, but if he falters at all and the habs lose, or lets in a couple softies, we will see Price. THIS is the perfect storm for Price to prove his worth!! I hope he doesn’t get the chance to, but imagine him coming in next game and going on a run!! I don’t care who is in net, let’s just beat the Caps and rub Ovie’s ugly puss into it!!
Boone will stick it to either one of those guys. We all know he is all over the place, and if Halak plays well, he’ll be all for halak. Boone is not only a fair man when it comes to goaltending, but also an extremely hansome man!!
Go habs Go!!
I want to be able to watch highlights tomorrow without cursing and swearing!!!
If the game is on Versus, then you will see a NHL.COM, ESPN, and NHL Center Ice blackout. I really HATE Versus. Comcast Sports Net is the one who covers the Caps in DC.
Being in Montreal, unless you illegally have Directv then you are out of luck. BUT the coverage on RDS and TSN is much much better than listening to Craig Laughlin and Joe Beninati talk over and over and over how great Ovechkin, Backstrom and company are.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
It is disappointing to see Jaro turn in some mediocre, or even poor, performances since the back-to-back shutouts in the playoff drive. I am beginning to worry that Jaro is not up for turning in strong performances each night in a starter’s role – is he similar to a Toskala who shone when given a 30-40 game workload, but crumbled when given the starting reins?
I think that if Jaro has one or two more below standard games and the Caps win this series, PG’s mind has to be made up that Jaro was given his chance and that Carey’s greater upside is worth the risk of trading Jaro away, as he cannot be counted on for strong games each night when they count. Here’s hoping I’m wrong and Jaro’s great these next few games.
He is, and has always been, a true douchebag! Everyone says how great he is for the game?? really? His play and talent, yes. He is an exceptional player. But his personality is like a cross between FlavoFlav and Borat. He is becoming extremely arrogant and I would love to see nothing more than him come crashing back down to earth.
Now that the hate is out there, Backstrom is some player!! I would love to see him in a habs uni, for sure. I think we can get him off his game too, but he is the mastermind in that duo. Ovechkin is probably the better player, but get to backstrom and Ovie will begin to try too hard, like in game one.
I disagree with Boone about the winner here taking the series. If we lose tonight and come back with Price and he steals the 4th game, its back to 2-2 and we took the first in WASH… We can do it again.
On the flip side of that coin, if we take tonights game and they come back to tie it up, its 0-0 all over again.
ONE THING IS FOR SURE, if we want to win this series, we SHOULD start with tonight.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Bottom line. Halak has not proved himself time and time again. I’ve been reading so much nonsense its ridiculous. He has 1 playoff win, and this has been his only season where he has played the bulk of the games. He has done well so far this season, but of late has been playing below the bar he set for himself with his play this year. It happens, if we had a better team and more firepower like the Caps do then it wouldnt even be a discussion. But the fact remains that if we are to be successful, Halak must play GREAT.
AND HE ABSOLUTELY CAN, but hasnt YET. Tonight is his must play great night. He will be judged for awhile by how he plays tonight. Does it mean he isnt number 1 anymore? NO, but he is barely our REAL number 1 as it is. We do not have one yet. And for the other side of this argument, NO PRICE HAS NOT PROVEN HIMSELF YET EITHER. If Halak messes up, He (Price) will get his chance. But we may simply see Good Play from both. AND THAT WILL NOT BE ENOUGH to beat the Caps. Doesnt matter, cause Halak can play the game of his life out there and if we dont play well as a team, then it means nothing….Cause we will lose.
BUT, tonight we will see if Halak can really make a permanent claim on the number 1 position in Montreal. Which in the end along with a toonie wont even get you on the BUS… Because even the best goalie in the last 25 years can be run out of this city. IN HIS PRIME. Just remember we are a ‘what have you done THIS WEEK’??? kind of city. And even if we succeed on beating the best team in the league, it still wont be good enough to show that this team just might be pretty good.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
We didn’t run Roy out of town, we’re pretty good at booing people but Roy left because he and Tremblay got along as well as Ulf Samuelsson and Cam Neely.
Even with Price in the nets on Saturday night, Washington would have scored 6 goals on Price.
Halak brought us to the playoffs not Price.
We just have to be tougher on the D and what’s with little Sergei? The guy only played 9 minutes Saturday night? Not good for a guy that’s been labelled our best Habs talented prospect by the media and by the fans.
Metro coming back is a plus.
Look for an exciting game tonight and I hope someone like Moen stands up agianst that putz in Mike Knuble.
Habs win 4-2 tonight.
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
Ovechkin is, and has always been, a true douchebag!
I think that Halak will have a good game tonight, but if he sucks, you can’t wait until the game is lost before you change your goalie. If that means seeing Price tonight, then that’s what you do. Going down 2-1 in games before doing something about the goaltending isn’t an option.
That said, Jaro’s success tonight will have a lot to do with how his defense handles the Caps forwards, and their desire to crowd Halak. But Halak will also have to take the initiative and stand up for himself in his own crease.

Yet somehow TREMBLAY was the one who stayed???? Its not like it was UNKNOWN beforehand that Tremblay and Roy didn’t like each other, yet we still picked him as coach… Its all a part of it.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Tremblay got the job because he was a friend of Houle and Cournoyer and Houle decided the coach had to be more important than any 1 person on the team and it looks bad if you fire your coach in the same year you hire him as well. I didn’t say it was a good decision but what in the Houle regime was a good idea? Not everyone has to like each other to make it all work either but Tremblay didn’t grasp that and Houle didn’t realize Living Legend > Coach.
Pittsburgh let Scotty Bowman go because he and Mario Lemieux were in conflict because they knew Lemieux as the Franchise was more important than Bowman the coach, that was a good decision, but Houle didn’t see it that way unfortunately.
Sorry but Halak was soft on 3 goals on Saturday night, the last two and his patented failure to handle a breakaway when Fehr potted one. Maybe Price would have allowed 6 goals but we can’t know that because he didn’t play. Halak’s lost 4 of his last 5 games, if Price was starting tommorow night with that record the comments section would already be 10 pages long.
I can’t believe they’re going to sit SK74…I thought Lapierre should sit!! I wonder what their record is like without him?? I really thought OB would be in the game tonight too after all the liberties taken with Halak during the last game!! OB is their most physical so…I’m just saying!!
best talent doesn’t mean sergei’s absolutely ready for the big show. talent has to be nurtured.
he made a clear mistake leading to the caps 2nd goal and he’s on a short leash.
now i can’t blame him fully on the play, because it looked like he wanted to pass up but both his line mates (moen/moore) seemed to have been too far out of the picture so it was a whole line messing up, but he should have done better with the puck.
Who said that the playoffs were about fairness? The coach plays the players that he thinks give the team the best chance to win. And if they aren’t getting the job done, then it’s up to the coach to explore other options. The regular season means nothing in the playoffs. It’s all about “what have you done for me lately.”

Theo won 20 games in a row and Boudreau had no problems putting in Varlamov when our old friend Jose let in a couple of weak goals.
Jaro should start Game 3, I have no issues with that. However, if he doesn’t play well and we lose, JM will definitely be thinking about putting Price between the pipes.
Darche made the same mistake and he seems to be absolved, he wasn’t benched after handing the Capitals a goal. JM’s tendency to heavily punish his youngsters but ignore his veteran’s mistakes is such antiquated coaching that it should be an HOF exhibit going “This is how we used to do things.”
darche is a serviceable player playing 7-10 minutes per game, but sergei has a lot of potential. I’m okay with benching sergei for the rest of the game, but for the next game too? it just seems like JM hates sergei and writes his name on the gamesheet with a scowl on his face. any chance he gets to semi-legitimately bench sergei, he’d do it!
While all this is correct, I feel the policy has something to do with the pressure by the fans in this city and the requirement that the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens must be French or from Montreal. To me this has a direct correlation with running Roy out of town. Tremblay and Roy has fist fight before he was the head coach. Didnt anyone care? Lastly, you are correct about Bowman and Lemieux, however Bowman has MANY MANY more Cups than Lemieux. Not only that, but during that time, the Penguins has arguably their BEST seasons.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Darche handed the Caps a goal as well though, coach is fine with playing him for a clear that went directly to a Capitals stick and ta-da, goal. This is him just choosing to punish the guy he doesn’t like over the veteran, again.
we need grit! o’byrne could get under players skins! all he has to do is tell ovechkin that he’s a criminal in the US and he’s going to steal OV’s mother’s purse!
would have gone with sergei on the PP. It’s inexplicable that sergei doesn’t get ANY PP time at all. even during all the injuries, we saw trotter, desharnais, and darche get PP time before sergei did.
If you or I were the Caps’ coach, we’d start Varlamov too. But we probably wouldn’t have lied about it to Theodore and tell everybody he has “a long leash.” Agreed that fans need to get on Varlamov early with a “Theo” chant every time he’s involved in the play. As for the game, I really feel like some of the Habs’ shooters are going to come out strong tonight. Think we’re in for big games from Cammalleri, Plekanec, and Pouliot, and I think Gomez and Gionta will play strong again. Need to do a better job clearing rebounds and traffic, like we did in game 1 and would not be displeased to see OB get a chance to do that, but overall the team is playing well and wouldn’t mess with the lineup all that much.
I can not stand this Ovechkin character. My problem is not just his personality, which you correctly described, but his style of play goes over the edge all the time, and he only gets slaps on his wrists. Everybody tallks about the two hits at the beginning of game 2 – the second hit was a charge! He left his feet, and no one says a word. As for the hit on Bergeron, what a tough guy. I have never wanted Lucic in our lineup more than right now. Maybe we should put O’byrne in on O, and have him shadow OVIE all over the ice. Let him pick on O’byrne and see what happens. He will only hit him when he isn’t looking – that poece of—.
They didn’t care enough, they figured Roy and Tremblay could be professionals about it, well that **** blew up in their faces and so began the Dark Age. Bowman also had from the 60s to 2002 to win everything he did, Lemieux played under 1000 NHL games, Bowman coached over 2000 to compare, with some of the greatest NHL teams in league history.
Take away Lemieux’s health problems, the power of the Penguins franchise would have been nigh-unstoppable for the 90s as well, not fair to compare. He could make Ray Bourque look bad when he played against him. Lemieux playing another 500 NHL games would’ve probably meant at least 1 more championship for the Pens and him being 2nd all-time at the very least in NHL scoring.
I’ll be pissed if Sergei is the one to get scratched. For what? He was noticeably one of the hardest working players out there, he thoroughly impressed me with the way he battled for the puck the last 2 games.
for trade one soul. I would like to trade my soul to one of you if and only if you take the montreal canadiens all the way to the stanley cup finals, they win it, and you make me wealthy enough that i dont have to be at work right now and i could spend the rest of the playoff run in Montreal having fun with the rest of the glorious fans of this team and i wouldnt have to work another day in my life. Thanks for your consideration and actions.
RDS reports that Jean Beliveau will be back in his usual seat for the first time since being sick. That ought to be inspiring. I’m also leaving now, have a good game in here and I hope to come back with at least some voice because I have a oral tomoro!
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
I used to like Ovechkin. Compared to Crosby, he didn’t whine and he played hard. But over the past couple of years that toughness has become more reckless. Each time the NHL fails to suspend him for any significant period of time, he realizes he can get away with whatever he wants and proceeds to do so. Totally agreed that his hit at the beginning of last game (the one after he hit Bergeron) should have been a charging penalty, he clearly leaves his feet and propels himself at the Habs player (?Markov), who didn’t have the puck. I have more respect for guys like backstrom or plekanec, who seem to play the game with respect. When the media talks about the NHl having to create stiffer rules before someone gets killed, Ovechkin is right up there as one of the more likely candidates of players who might actually kill someone with an illegal hit. He doesn’t care about other players’ safety, he’s big and he’s fast. Someone needs to put him in his place just like Kane did to Cooke. Only thing is because of his name, that becomes harder to do without the NHL trying to protect him.
Hopefully we’ll get the benefits of the calls tonight being home.. Oh wait, we don’t have Ovie!! Oh well, maybe we’ll just have to play through the 4 bad calls every game and still win!!
True, but they won the previous year with a different coach and I’m sure they could’ve found another coach soon enough, who wouldn’t want the opportunity to coach Lemieux and Jagr? Lemieux playing the 90s with no health issues, my god the possibilities…
I fail to see how this one play of SK74, caused the spiral down fall of the entire team. If MTL’s mentality is this frail, they have no buisness being anywhere near the playoffs. Or the NHL for that matter.
Other players made mistakes far greater than that over the course of the evening, yet your entirely comfortable putting the last 3 goals on his plate.
I’m still not a fan of Crosby, but he is slightly more tolerable now than when he first broke in. Two or three years ago, I would have backed Ovechkin over Sid, now not so sure. I’d take either one on my team without hesitation, but man are some of the things Ovechkin does defenseless.
Jaro was not available to the media as he was fuming about all of the goaltender interference that WASN’T called. The team didn’t want him to get fined/suspended.
I agree, if Gomez is gone to the sin bin, why would SK not be the guy to take his place on the pp? i mean he does have some offensive skills, more than darche i would say
“I watched the replay when Fehr scored the goal and his arm was shaking
when he drank water,” Ovechkin said of Halak after he allowed Eric Fehr
to score on a breakaway in the first period of Game 2. “So, he’s
nervous. He knows all the pressure is on him and that’s a good sign for
us.”
lol. As if he’s gonna talk about our goaltender, when Theo (their amazing 20-0-3 starter) didn’t last 2 shots in that game. And Varly wasn’t spectacular either.
Mr. Boone your love affair with Carey Price is once again evident in this unfair and less than objective analysis of Halak. Halak has shown throughout his career that he can play the BIG games.
I know it pains you not to see Price leading the Habs onto the Bell ice, but please try to have some journalistic objectivity.
Except Finland-Slovakia for the Bronze, Game 2 against the Capitals with a trio of questionable goals and the last week of the regular season where we needed points for a playoff appearance and we escaped with a couple of loser points instead off of questionable Jaro performances. Halak has failed in some huge games this year.
These are the Big games right now, points needed for playoffs, critical win on away ice to get a 2-0 lead in the series and Halak was not up to it in those games.
A good goalie manages to keep his team in the game even when playing less than optimum. Halak had a less than great game unlike in game 1, but he still gave his team a chance to win.
Boone has been (and is being) more than fair to Jaro this season.
Also, just out of curiosity, which big games has Halak show that he can play? Would it be the last game where we had a 4-1 lead that turned into a 6-5 loss? Or how about the bronze medal game in this years’ Olympics, where Slovakia had a 3 goal lead only to see it evaporate before the final buzzer. You might even say that the last 3 games of this season were BIG games considering we still needed 1 point to clinch a playoff spot. How did that turn out? We got 1 point and 1 point only, with some very unspectacular goaltending down the stretch.
Halak hasn’t won any big games yet and you’re only kidding yourself if you think he has.
Except for the 5-5 tying goal, and the winning goal. Halak blew it on both of them and that’s why we’re looking for a bounceback rather than a potential 3-0 lead in the series. He was huge in Game 1, but it didn’t carry to game 2, even with all the goalie interference he blew goals he would’ve stopped cold in Game 1. Keeping your team in the game means making that save on those winning/tying goals, if Price had flubbed those chances, the firestorm we’d have on here…
Mr. Boone has obvious fave players and those he is more critical of. Pouliot is one of his golden boys and AK is one of the ones he has a tough time praising. His preference of Price over Halak is more than transparent.
Halak has proven nothing of the sort. He was atrocious in the three games we had a chance to clinch a playoff spot before the postseason, and he was nothing special last game. Add to this his complete breakdown in the bronze medal game for Slovakia and I really don’t see what big game situations you’re talking about.
You might be lacking a bit of objectivity of your own here…when Price was pissing away winnable or must-wins…many on here, including yourself stated that had Halak been in net, the win would have been assured…Halak HAS proved himself time and again, but as the go-to guy now, he needed to show that he can win the clinchers and big games and he hasn’t (except for Game #1)…so here we are now, we had games that were must-win or winnable in the past two weeks and he didn’t….Halak is the man now, he will be subject to criticism and judgement, isn’t that how it is supposed to be as the man? Or is Price the only one that should be judged and criticized?
I fail to see the controversy. Halak has earned his starter position with his fine play this year which allowed the Habs to even make the playoffs. His winning percentage was far superior to that of Price.
To even contemplate starting Price in a critical game 3 at HOME is more than ridiculous. It is unfair to both Halak and Price, and no coach would do that to either player.
If, and that is a big if, Halak falters tonight then Price will get his chance to prove he is the ONE.
One solution to the Jaro crease crowding thing. Just show him a few videos of Battling Billy Smith of the Islanders. Noone EVER stood in his crease without being administered copious amounts of lumber to the back of the ankles. All Halak would have to do is chop down a few and he would be able to see from Montreal to Vegas!! Time to return to ole time hockey.
I have NEVER said any such thing. I have criticized Price at times for a perceived lack of interest in certain games, but I have never said that Halak would have won if her were in. That is a silly comment to make because who can ever predict such an outcome.
I didn’t mind the refereeing that much in the first 2 periods but the 3rd seemed a little lopsided towards Washington.
They called some bad penalties on us and missed some on the caps. For example the pPouliot penalty was pretty week and then they missed a high stick on Markov with 2 minutes to go right before the caps tied it.
I also feel they should of told the caps that they are not going to be afraid to stop the play do to goalie interference and then actually followed up on it.
I went back and looked at it from the highlights from the nhl.com website. It looks like knuble gets in jaro’s space and bump’s him, then gill pushes him after the fact. To me,the goal never should have counted.
Everyone worried about scratching Sergei, Darche, Lapierre ? Scrath them all I say !!! I want some of these guys……..Gainey, Carbo, Lambert, Trembley, Jimmy Roberts, Houle, Skrudland, McPhee, Keane. Those are the kind of third fourth liners you can wi a cup with !!!!
Your right about the ref getting ready to blow the whistle, watch the replay from the nhl website. You can see when the puck hits jaro, the ref brings his hand up to his mouth. There is now way the ref could have acutally seen the puck from where he was standing. The entire 3rd period looked like a script written up for the WWE. It was f$%kin pathetic.
This is gonna be a typical, nerves run raw type of game to watch. I expect it to be close, believe it or not, but the outcome I really can’t guess. I really hope that the lads come out and play hard, not discouraged by the blown tire that was game two. I am very scared, however, of the caps actually playing to their potential like in the later stages of game two. They have the offensive ability to over a game in a few shifts, and our defence as well as our forwards are going to have to be ready for that. I expect a huge game for Metro, and although he may not score, I think he will be visible at both ends of the. Halak is a question mark. I think he will bounce back, but if the caps turn the heat up, will he be able to battle through? Will be an interesting evening.
Mike Milbury, Don Cherry, and PJ Stock….The three stooges of HNIC.
(i’m a minor hockey ref) when a play goes to the net I usually put my whistle in my mouth in advance so when the goalie freezes the players dont have a chance to chop away at the goalie before I blow my whistle. I don’t think he would have blown the play dead for a goalie interfierence, just had a delayed penalty.
Hey Boone, can you or the rest of the HIO crew try to post the Hickey interview on TSN later? I’d like to watch it when I have time (as I’m sure would the rest of the peanut gallery)!
after dutifully analyzing Ace analysts Robert L and Chris Boyle break down the 11 Game 2 goals, I have figured out how we can beat the Caps.
We have to not stop scoring goals. After we score, wes hould not stop or rest, but we should score another goal. After that goal we should not ask questions or dither or wonder or wander we should score yet another goal. And later pursuing this mode of engagement in the game, in the third perdion when we have scored 8 goals, we should score another goal. And then, when the final siren has sounded we will be surrounding Jaro joyfully because we will have won.
I’m pretty happy with the series so far. The second game was disappointing, but that’s what happens when the habs goalie doesn’t play lights-out against Washington’s offence. Don’t kid yourselves, the Habs D is the weakest in the playoffs, and they’ll need game-one style tending to win games. It’s not fair to the goalies, but whatever.
I think the Habs can get the goaltending to win another two games just with that … maybe they’ll get lucky and the rest of the team can win one together.
Go to TSN.ca Click on “Watch more in our video player!” then go to “Video Library”, Find “Off The Record” on and click on the video ” OTR Panel Michael and the Panel discuss the problem of goaltender interference and Mike Green’s play.” ———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
we need to just relax, change the sheets, and realize where we are. this team can play with this other team and we need to play the way we have been (like in the second period of game 1.) to see this thing through. we’re good enough, we’re smart enough and, gosh darn it, we can do this.
Sorry, I was running two thoughts together at once. Ovie’s wasn’t goalie interference, backstrom’s first was, but it looked like the ref was ready to blow the ovie one dead. Why not, no puck in sight)) I think the crowd played a big part of the refs decision, so hopefully it will work for us (why do I think that won’t happen??)
I dont’t know, after game 2 all I felt was drained to the very core, my spirit was completely trampled. sure hope the boys recovered much better than I did
I can see us coming out firing, but won’t be able to score, and then Washington will slowly get back into it. It’s how all important games at home start.
Fellow Hab fans at the Bell center IF Carey happens to be put in goal from a Jaro stumble can you PLEASE not Boo the kid thanks !! God bless you Jaro have a strong game dude like game 1 think game 1
2. Did Patrick V just defend the fact Knuble was pushed, yet the Washington Post’s Tarik-El-Bashir said Knuble make much effort to avoid it? Who writes for which team?? LOL
within my reach i hold the balance of time. within my reach i carry the burden of my life. within each hand i raise towards the sky and thank my lord i was given to fly
You knwo how the rule for blowing a play dead is when the ref makes the decision to blow it dead, not the actual sound of the whistle. When Ovie scored, the ref was putting the whistle in his mouth, which we would assume he made the decision to blow it, but then let ovie give it one more push and he almost crapped his pants pointing at the puck in the net. When three tsn guys say it looks like goalie interference, my god!!!
A true disgrace, not to mention the high stick which hit markov in the face, or before gomez fought, the caps player knocking the net off so the habs couldn’t put the puck in the empty net. Just a sickening joke!!
Look at the guys on the ice right now. Pleks, Bergeron, AK46. Which of these guys can defend themselves. That is why we are losing. Two many guys that are the same.
MAB has to sit and you play O’Bryne we need the size and toughness plus you put Price in because he can handle the running a little better. Second the Molson have to speak out about the refing because we can ‘t have our playing doing it come on boys protect your team and the fans. I think you have to bring up PK Suban and sit Hammer and you bring up Neilson and let him go at their goalie. You put him on with Gomez and Gionta and he will create some room. I know one thing if that idoit JM does nothing this is all over.
Stop being an asshole,…………Price blows most palyoff series he’s evr been in. However now is his time to maybe become a winner….so far he’s only proven he’s a loser…Let’s hope if he’s in nets then he turns things around….Tonights Habs were f^789ng $hit…….
Halak got his chance, played like swiss cheese, not it’s time for Price to show him how it’s done in the “PLAYOFFS”. Nobody can saya nything, I’m tired to people defending Halak for their lives.
Jaro who. You must be kidding. Live and die by the team, but he is not the next one, and was not. Too bad. He had the chance, and now can play in the KHL. With the Ove, he wasn’t all that good either.
Not over yet, but clear the deck. Bring me the young ones with Price. Sorry folks, he’s my goalie going forward…
The Habs have shown (at times) that they have that type of play and commitment in their arsenal. Unfortunately, I can’t recall the last time I saw 30 minutes of it, let alone a full sixty. They would be one dangerous squad if they ever put it all together. Sadly, that is one big IF that I don’t see coming to fruition any time soon.
San Jose makes the playoffs every year, then they fold a card table.
If you can put your team into the playoffs, but choke in the last 3 games where you need points to win a playoff spot, then fall apart starting in Game 2 of the playoffs, I wouldn’t consider you a clutch goalie, I’d call you Nabokov 2.0.
This is the night in which the Habs brass gets the opportunity to forget everything Halak has done, restore their plan, and not sign Halak. This is the day I knew would come because no one had the nerve to go for the little guy over Price. We will now see how weak between the ears Price is over the next couple of years. I’ve never liked him, and that’s my right. I hope he proves me dead wrong and becomes what everyone seemed to believe he can become. I’ve not seen much to like, but maybe he’ll grow into form. He can lose weight, he can work on positioning. . . but I’m worried that what he really needs is a brain transplant.
In other news, the loss of control by Habs here is embarrassing. Lose with dignity and beat them next game. Don’t get so unglued.
Timo play hockey? HaHa. Now that is funny. Guy is a joke. Has no idea what hes talking about. I bet if he did play hockey and his team was down 1-0 he left the bench and went crying to his dad saying things like “This team has no heart, they suck, etc etc”
i am sooooo beyond f8ing pissed, this reffing is pushing me over the edge, caps were all over halak but er go anywhere near thier goalie and it’s extra tim cause they feel like it
i am sooooo beyond f8ing pissed, this reffing is pushing me over the edge, caps were all over halak but er go anywhere near thier goalie and it’s extra tim cause they feel like it
I said if Martin doesn’t roll 4 lines we lose. Guess what? Why not dress 8 defensemen the way the forth line is played. I don’t mean that.
The glaring memory I have from this is Martin trembling and reaching for his note pad. The guy isn’t a playoff coach, less than the Habs are a playoff team.
i tuned into the game in the middle of the second period and here are some thoughts.
Jaro not impressive, especailly after watching Anderson’s, Niemi’s and yes even Nabokov’s( who made some very nice saves) performances.
Defence, weather due to nerves or scared that Jaro won’t back them up was horrible and weak
playing metro, who hasn’t played in over a month and has yet to practice with the team after a very serious injury over sk74 who is younger faster and was playing very well. This is NOT a knock on metro but a game like that is not a place to bring someone in.
Price was not super impressive but at that point of the game, who cares really… he gets the nod for the next game.
the refs are disgusting scum bags… when the players finally stand up for themselves and the goalie they get penalized. They actually went up to JM and told him that the players have no right to talk to them or complain any more.
that to me says volumes.
Moen… used to be a warrior and hurt people, what happened? weather it’s a passive coaching issue or a coach who can’t fire up his palyers i don’t know. But after years of palying a style that got him into the NHL and won him a cup, this guy is a ghost of his former self.. and that’s very strange.
Pouliot… lol
on to the next game, hopefully they bounce back, but who knows.
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
1) So why watch — if you know the Caps are going to win?
2) You honestly are speaking for “most” people on this site?
Give me a break. Some “fans” are disappointing in that they think the team is fated to lose. How do you explain game 1? How do you explain 60 minutes of game 2? How do you explain today’s first period? Destiny was not working its course?
One thing for sure in this years draft, we need someone with these types of stats:
6’1, 100 minutes of pms and +, and at least 50 points…
Also we may have crapped on Komi but at least he was the ONLY one to at least hit or whack someone in front of the net. We have no one to do that, we always play a no-hitter. Having small players is not a problem, ut when you only have small players, at one point yoy cannot turn around the momentum of a game.
Wash is #1 for a reason, we had a chance but with no killer instinct we let it slip in game #2, remember against Carolina way back when ? Well same thing here.
Big decisions during the offseason. Lets hope we can draft and trade well.
We will be better with PK next year, but we need to protect him as other teams will go after him, he’ll be a marked man. We need some size.
I hope the fans won’t boo or cheer in a moking manner as our team is out-manned. They have bazookas and we have sling-shots.
He had almost no chance on any of the goals. How was it his fault? The Habs scored 1 measly goal. Price let in 2 in half a game, it’s not like he could do anymore for a team that was physically dominated. Either way, Price or Halak, next game, the result will be the same, if the Caps feel like making it the same.
they got outshot 51-17 and they were blocking shots? I saw the same game, anderson was blocking shots but that was about it. Probably would have 60 shots if heatley was playing. Would you have praised the habs if we got outshot that badly and only won because a guy shot it into his own net? Who are you kidding timo,we all remember your posts after we win a game after being outshot and outplayed badly, its nothing like you just posted.
Well, just came back from Bell Center’s La Cage aux Sports & the Tailgate party…deceiving game, but I still see good potential. The boys wanna win this!
I haven’t read everybody’s comments yet, but I’m glad to see that most here are still believing in this team…and Am I hating the Caps even more or WHAT!! I’m really starting to hate Ovy and his arrogance,,ppff!!
I used to cheer for them last yeat…well this year: F*** That!! Ha!!
After all they have let go against us the last two games and they call that. The officials in the National Hockey League are on the take. No doubt about it.
If I believe for a second that JM could possibly get fired I’d content myself with that. But he’s in the first year of a four year contract, he’s Gauthier’s best pal, and he speaks the right language (sort of). He’s not going anywhere.
i think the most upsetting thing was watching Gomez and Plecky stick up for themselves and the team and getting sh*t on by the refs, can you blame them for exploding and saying some not very nice things? And i know the refs were not the reason we lost but JM needs to step up, not let the players be punished for telling the truth. All year it is the same story and for once I was hoping the refs would stay out but it just isn’t possible. I do not believe it is possible to beat the Caps and the refs, the Cap have too much power as do the refs.
I love the Habs and want to see them win but this was so deflating and I can only imagine how the guys feel right now.
Not at all! I’m just saying that Montreal doesn’t have the talent that the Caps can put on the ice. Any team can win on a given day, but the Habs needed a “perfect storm” of execution to have a chance in this series. The goaltending had to be nearly perfect and it wasn’t. Are they destined to lost? Of course not, but the odds are stacked against them.
Well the refs dont call no interference or any penalites on all the crap the Capitals do game 2, let that be noted it lasted for 60 minutes all their shit. And now we defend Price, or get mad at the refs = MISCONDUCT DOUBLE MINORS – what a ***ing joke. Go stupid god damn refs.
Good rebound control for Halak. Boone I have no idea how you can blame the ‘crap D’. Goalies aren’t supposed to give a damn rebound each time a soft shot hits him.
What the hell’s this penalty about? Running over a goalie isn’t allowed? Wow the League does pass new rules fast these days, must’ve happened between periods.
Terrible way for us to end this game, completely given up, no fight left, only frustration. Hopefully we save face in the 3rd and lose 4-2 or something the like.
LoL, Halak put us in this whole, gave caps all the momentum they can handle and Crowd chanting against Price? Somethign is seriously wrong with these fans.
price “you may have pushed around halak, but halak’s european and doesn’t fight, ya wanna push me around i’ll kick your A_SS” ———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
Why is Ryan White not playing with the Habs. He has impressed me everytime he has been brought up. I seriously question this clubs ability to assess NHL talent.
You Know What is a Real Laugh is all the ’20/20 Hindsight’ coaches here who could’ve ,would’ve, should’ve changed the game in the Habs favour…..Grow Up…..just as in the regular season, this Habs team is not very good & hasn’r been for near 20 to 30 years, with only 2 exceptions (’86 & ’93) and for those who enjoy losing ,perhaps the ’89 version of the Habs who were the ONLY TEAM to LOSE a STANLEY CUP on FORUM ICE.
This years team is lucky to even be playing in the post season, and you only have to look at the last game with the Leafs………Habs are $hit & that’s a fact.
+1 try and injure backstrom while we are at it, if buttman wants caps to face pittsburg in the conference finals then we can let them go with half their starting roster
I think he is saying and I agree, that playing Price is very risky and possibly damaging to Price. The crowd will be very ready to jump on any perceived weakness in his goaltending. Is it fair to put him in such a pressure cooker when our chances of winning this series is miniscule at best?
Also it is unfair to Halak. I say start Halak with a very short leash, that way the pressure is lessened on Price.
you know, it’s games like these where I wish Roy was the coach, at least he would speak his mind and not lose his players for unsportsmanlike conducts because they have to stnd up for themselves, he would just go crazy and get his point across and himself thrown out
What are you talking about? The four years the islanders won the Cup the team with the best cumulative overall record in that time was the Montreal Canadiens. They had one bad year when they nearly missed the playoffs then Steve Penney darn near got them to the Final. In 89 they were one point behind Calgary for the overall regular season title. They lost because their power play was awful. In 94 they repeat if Roy doesn’t come down with an appendix attack right befoer the playoffs.
Got to agree. This was Jaro’s chance to seal the deal as Montreal’s #1 goalie for next season. Now he’s as good as gone. Nice guy. I hope he is successful at his next stop. A lot of teams will want him, despite his performance in this series. It’s Carey’s team now.
The benching of SK74 bugged the hell out of me. One of our most talented players and you know he’s not going to be back. Next season, we’ll see him score 28 goals for the Nashville Predators. It shows me that Martin would rather make a point than win.
I would make one major change to this team. Make Guy Boucher the coach and put Martin on the blood drive committee or something like that.
we just can’t afford to lose our better players for misconducts, the coach needs to take care of that part of the game, plus now the guys are afraid to go anywhere near varlmov or even sneeze on a capital players because we are guaranteed a least 2 minutes if not more.
I am a Price guy…but you have to put Halak in net for Game #4….to not put him in would be to throw him to the wolves and if you start Price in a must-win situation and he loses, then he gets thrown to the wolves as well.
Halak got the team into the playoffs and for a while helped make the team look good in the playoffs, it will be up to him to make them look good again.
Besides, the goals were not really his fault: the first was symptomatic of the entire season of a D corps that gets in the way of the goalies and the other two were the result of people just watching the puck. Price’s first goal was the same thing of just watching and I missed the fifth goal.
The D were still blocking shots and trying to hit the Caps but they were guilty of a lot of puck-watching…
BTW….get SK74 back in there…the mojo he has with Moore and Moen is needed. Sit either Darche or Lapierre.
The team still has a chance because neither team has won four games yet.
I do not have much problem with Gomez getting 5 for fighting last game and a 10 min. misconduct this game…somebody has to show emotion. Also, this is not the first time the Habs have wet the bed for a highly anticipated game. They will be much better for Game #4.
The 2nd goal was stoppable, sure it would have been a nice save, a big playoff type save, but he didnt make it. Thats my point. Like goal 5 and 6 in game 2. You can’t critique Price in a wash up, Lets see when the score is 0-0 to judge his performance
Not sure what you are talking about…Pouliot was hitting and fighting for the puck and skating hard…it was his line that looked dangerous the entire night….meanwhile, Pleks’ line were all -4 EACH….
Definitely they are. Didn’t you see the refs failing to defend against Caps’ players in front of the net for easy goals? The refs are undoubtedly respsonsible for defensive lapses by Habs players. They control the players’ actions.
The call on AK in the third while they were on the powerplay said volumes about the refs. That was a agenda call he didn’t want to give the Habs any life . So long as management sits on thier hands and do not speak out about this it will continue I am proud of the players but I am ashamed of the ownship and management of this team. The ownership of this team has let these player and the fans down they are a bunch of cowards and a complete disgrace to the history of this team.
How about we stop worrying about the players AND goalies’ feelings, who’s “earned” what, who “deserves” what and we play to win. Halak has allowed 8 goals on his last 28 shots against, in just over 2 periods of hockey. No team can win with goaltending like that. The blame isn’t entirely on him, the defense needs to get back to playing the way they did in game one and most of game 2, but Halak blew it.
What you did in the post season really doesn’t matter if you Knew hockey you would know that look at carolina in 06 cam ward was ok all season and Darth Gerber was bombing in the playoffs WARD WON THE CUP
As much as the game score isn’t their fault, i’m still pissed at the refs. That’s BS when this is exactly what Washington got away with before. If the Caps get called for this stuff, do they come back in game 2?
They make the call now because the game is out of reach. That is how refs who are on the take work. They make it look like they are neutral but I know better. It is not what is called, it is when it is called.
It wasn’t called last game because we were in it, and could have won.
I can’t believe how fickle some of you are. Halak has one bad game and all of a sudden all the “experts” come out with the I told you so’s. Typical I suppose, hindsight is 20-20 after all.
Anyhoo, we should stay optimistic here, this team has proven that they can hang with these guys, it’s just a matter of focus, easy right?..well I guess we’ll see.
we are very poor at faceoffs and over a game we lose a lot of puck time…at this stage it is not a teaching issue its a lack of talent in this area…i think there will be no pressure next game on the habs as it will be like game one…even if our top forwards match their top forwards we will get killed by their secondary vs ours….maybe you can win a cup or be an elite team with one of moen or metro…but 8 of these type up players even the most ardent hab fan has to admit no chance…beyond our top 5 forwards the rest of the forwards are interchangeable with hundreds of forwards
Well atleast you finally admit your hatred for Price. I’ve been calling you on it for over 2 years with you denying it, but it wasn’t hard to see. Maybe you could talk to the other haters and ask them to come out of the closet like you boston doug.
TSN panel is insane. Halak has let in 8 goals now on his last 28 shots. Make as many excuses as you want, but that’s unacceptable in the regular season, let alone the playoffs. He deserves to sit on the bench.
How can anybody be surprised by the score and results right now? Year in year out, playoffs in playoffs out I have seen this situation a hundred times. Team A should have won such and such game and the next game played is totally dominated by the winning/comeback team from the game before. I have seen this situation happen over and over to much better teams then our Habs are this season. That’s how it goes, the series was won in game 2. The Habs have nothing left mentally and physically, it was left on the ice in game 2.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Agreed. Not what I meant but I realize it could be interpreted that way…
I wasn’t sure how to name it but habs loyalty wasn’t a good choice. I guess pessimism would be more accurate but as you said, there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m just optimistic kind lol.
Many people here wanted Carbo gone… We got Jock to Joke… Who doesn’t wish we still had Carbo now??? Too bad we won’t see that… Stuck with this playoff LOSER… look at that W-L record in the playoffs he has and remember he had the Sens when they were tops in the East for years… He is crap
There you go Molsons I hope your happy this team was cheated in the frist ,then are you kidding me Gomez 10 minute for yapping. I don’t think Boudreau got anything in the first two games when he was yelling at the refs. Oh wait a minute yes he did he got Montreal in the box the whole third period of the second game and his player were allowed to run our goalie.
Halak has let up 9 goals in just over 3 periods, sure not all his fault but not making a change is worse. Did Buodreau care about Theo, no he made a decision that was best for the team.
Technically Halak has only played bad for 2 and a half periods, unfortunately over this time he’s let in 8 goals on just 28 shots. That’s unacceptable in the regular season, let alone playoffs.
This sucks, but a blow out like this might help us play better in game 4. If we win it, which we can, itll be 2-2 and back even going in to Washington, where apparently we play better than at home.
Want to feel sick. We are down 6 to 1 in the last 3 periods.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
I agree that he blew it, but the incompetent D that Price had to put up with, Halak has to put up with it now….it is not worth throwing both goalies to the wolves….the team will end up with Sanford and Desjardins as their tandem next season if they switch.
Sorry ,but when the Islanders won 4 in a row,.THEY had the best record & that’s the 4 IN A ROW……..
In ’89 They ( The HABS) LOST on FORUM ICE,….that in my books doesn’t make them a great team…….
and even mentioning Steve Penney as a possible great for the Habs in your words ‘NEARLY’ getting them into a Final, doesn’t really register as a great year either.
“WINNING ISN’T EVERYTHING————-IT’S THE ONLY THING”——– Vince Lombardi
The Caps have no issue throwing Theo to the wolves…he is UFA after this season and that is a few million coming off their books and they still have Varlamov…the Habs have to preserve one or both their goalies as best they can.
It’s alright Andrew, we’re all frustrated right now.
The problem is our defense. If they keep playing like they did today in the 2nd, the goalies might as well demand a trade so they can play behind a ‘defensive system’. The ‘system’ is not working. Coach’s fault or not – I am not sure.
Bergeron, Hamrlik are a huge part of the problem. I don’t like pointing out specific players, but this is true.
Up front Pouliot, Moen, Darche aren’t doing any better. Why Sergei is not playing is beyond my thinking.
JM should not coach anymore. You can’t beat Washington with 3 lines. We need our lines to be fresh to compete. Mistake is going to make when you are not as fresh as the other team. We will never go far with JM as the coach.
Hey Sidhu, we all feel badly about them getting crushed tonight but I doubt many fans feel like the team is fated to lose. There have been many times that a lower-ranked team has gone far in the playoffs but logic tells us that Washington should be favored. The Habs played great in game 1 and game 2, but Washington is the better team right now.
MAB is one of the worst “nhl” hockey players I have ever seen. It’s absolutely sad and pathetic a guy like this is even wearing the CH. Did he get an assist on the 5th Caps goal?, he should have, he gave it away to to them twice, pathetic!
Habs have to use the third period as a setup for the next game. They have to show some push back and gain some needed respect back from the Caps. If they don’t? OMG game four will be not pretty.
The Habs players are just getting boxed out so easily. Varlamov sees all the shots and nobody can even get close to all the rebounds that pop out. Way overmatched in the physicality department. Caps are just cruising now.
Both goalies are RFAs, they can’t just leave. I would rather play to win than play to not offend the other goalie. Price was very solid tonight, and the way he fought off Knuble when he was being interfered with is exactly what we need.
It’s just one game and a 2-1 series. Let em score ten more. They can only win one game at a time.
As for blaming this on anyone other than some great goaltending by Varlamov in the first and some inadequate goaltending by Halak in second – it happens – let’s not whine. They’re up 4-0. Yes the refs are now making stupid calls, but we were down before that. The Gionta call was stupid and the ref is a showman idiot, but he was warning both teams from the start and we just got out frustration.
I’ll provide my verdict at 10 p.m. on Wednesday night. Right now the Caps just took a one game lead in a 7 game series. Yes we’re unlikely to win, but that was the case before the puck dropped last Thursday night, and the guys made me proud up until this second period. Thankfully they have more intestinal fortitude than we do.
How has Halak played bad in this game? The team played pretty bad, but to say Halak played bad is not accurate. If Halak played bad for the 1st half of the game then Price played bad the 2nd half…..More accurately, the team got blown a way by a Caps team that wasn’t even firing on all cylinders. Some of us saw this coming a mile away, it’s not a surprise. The Caps are laughing at how easy this is.
Can we use Laraque in the third and give him an extra million to go mental on Ovi??? I didn’t think I would ever say this, but I would want Komisarek also! He may lose the fight, but at least he would try to kick some butt out there. Can anyone stand up for this team tonight???

Just a side note but is anybody watching the game on CSN aka The Caps play by play team of Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin. They were talking about OT and ’93 earlier and Beninati said something about LeClair and then Laughlin says how he remembers Claude Lemieux scoring a few OT winners that year for us. It amazes me how dumb and unknowlegable most of these commentators are.
Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
I don’t know why they didn’t spend the last 10 minutes, running Varlamov. When you are getting pounded, you might as well try and send a message.
Forsome reason Washington is allowed to go whereever they want (on top of the goalie) and wearen’t even allowed to protect our crease, but we’re not allowed anywhere near their net.
Bettman wants Ovie and Crosby to meet, and he’ll make it happen.
Theo is a UFA next season and very unlikely to return to the Caps so he had nothing to lose pulling him. The goalie situation in Montreal is far different.
The goals were not Halaks fault but people wake up this is the playoffs either you elevate your game or your out. Example Craig Anderson 51 save shutout last night and got his team the win! Halak was average at best for the past 2 games.
The fact is Varlamov was way better at the other end and when the habs pushed early he kept them off and changed the game. I say start price he looked good and although Halak carried us here as did theodore for the caps and people have to stop with this loyalty crap and go with who can win for us!
I fail to see that, when it matters, I think Price is the better goalie. Halak can win all the season games he wants, He will still get analled in the playoffs and in games that matter
Not sure which team was more bi-polar…last years team or this year…right now we are one game better than last years edition…all that “dynamite” and Cap Space to blow up the team for one more post season game…
A couple of the boys must have some new putters they want to try out is all I can figure…
I think the Molsons will be paying Martin to do commentary on RDS…Question is…who do we get to replace him? Another blow-up this summer?
I am hoping the Habs don’t embarass themselves again Wednesday or it will be real ugly…Butt ugly…Fugly…MoFugly…And just plain bad…
“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”
A lot of you here seem to be under the delusion that TSN is anti-Habs, and that’s just not true. They try to be impartial. But when you are as fanatically pro-Habs as (almost) everyone here is, impartiality looks like bias against.

If you are from Nova Scotia then that means we bluenosers are two of the only people not wearing the NHL issue “rose colored glasses”. The call on AK was absolutely an agenda call. I tape all games and check the replays. He did nothing….
As well, can you imagine giving a key player on another team a 10 minute misconduct!!! For what??? And then to hit Pleks with 4 minutes!!! 2 of our very best out for 14 minutes in the middle of a PLAY-OFF GAME!!!
Remember the Canadiens have been scr—-ed all year by the league. Last in the league in P.P.’s and last in the league (-50), in the crucial P.P’s versus short-handed stats. Last!!!! Now Boone and Hickey…go ahead and explain that?
There are none so blind as he who will not see….
As for Halak…as McTavish and the boys said…not even Plante could have stopped those…Did anyone notice where Markov and Bergeron were on the second goal? Not anywhere near the front of the net…Check the tape…it doesn’t lie…
Halak should not play against the Caps period. He should sit until the end of the series not matter how they go. Halak just can’t stone a good team.. 8 goals on under 30 last shots is pathetic. THats how you separate Men from Boys or an NHL goalie from a Playoff goalie..
Considering the Caps were 30 points and 100 goals more than us these teams are closer than I thought. A little help on defence next year and a few forwards that play with size and we’re in. 4 or 6 new players should do it. And a coach.
I’m not going to rant unlike others (okay maybe yes but it’s a positive rant). I completely lost my voice in the first period and then saved it for my oral tomoro (although I have close to none left). I think people are just being too cynical and negative. Washington is the best freakin’ team in the league with 101 goals more than us and 33 points ahead of us. Yes, they are beatable on some nights. And, as much as a cliche it is, hockey is a game of momentum and when they scored on our PP, the Habs flew out of the building.
I still believe we can take it to them. Some more preparation and study of their game coupled with an extraordinary performance by Price who has resurfaced at the face of the planet. Price is up for an RFA contract. He knows that one of he or Halak will have to go. If he can’t stay, he would want to show others that he’s NOT a first round bust. What better can he do that carrying the Habs into the playoffs?
Price is certainly capable and from what I just saw on his interview with RDS, he seems mature and ready to compete and come back (he made a couple of really good saves tonight). And heck, it’s the playoffs and stranger things have happened before. We are down 2-1 in a series of 7 games to the Washington Capitals for crying out loud.
Sure this game leaves a sour taste but Wednesday, I am ready to guarantee that the Habs will win. Watch my words. I’ll check back then. Good Night! I still BELIEVE!
I do not think the goals were all his fault but the stats do not support him…Halak: 3 goals on 13 shots in over 28 min. and Price 2 goals on 23 shots in 32 minutes…
Not a good night for Halak…I would throw him in for Game #4 but you must admit, Halak is 1-5 in the last six meaningful games…
And the useless players of the game award is shared by Pouliot, Hamrlik and MAB. all useless. And our forwards really dont try and hit either. Like there is no reason why moen shouldnt be hurting people
so if habs end up losing the series it seems suitable that refs are to blame for taking away our mojo during game 2. Game 2 would be the turning point and an entire series will be finished with refs to blame. this series should be 2-0 canadiens before this game started. Typical bullshit. I don’t know how someone can enjoy nhl playoffs if refs determine who wins what series.
Probably a moderator tired of reading you bash Halak.
The reason the team lost is not because of Halak. Washington is just a much better team. They are alot bigger, stronger and deeper than the Habs. THe Habs spent the whole year winning 1 game, losing 2, winning 2 losing 3. It is not going to be any different in the playoffs. After 82 games we should know what this team is like. They are not going to change just because it is the playoffs.
You people make me laugh. How did Price look so much better than Halak this game. If Price was in nets the whole game, It’s 100% we still would have lost. You guys are missing the problem. The team is no good, especially for playoff style hockey. I’ve been telling people all year.
Pouliot looks lost when he gets the puck, he’s really slowing down the other two today. Maybe try SK there next game, even though I know theres no chance of that happening.
Yes they did lose the game by themselves, but the refs made sure it stayed that way. Bunch of very soft calls towards us. Didn’t watch the third period until there was about 5 min left just to watch 2 other bulls*** calls on us again.
Funny when we where up by three 2 nights ago, how the refs tried helping Caps come back. i thought I was paranoid in the beggining of the season with the calls, but they make it so easy to see there is something against some teams
Halak wasn’t awful, but how can you possibly say he wasn’t bad? He wasn’t fighting at all, even on the first goal Spacek barely bumped him and he couldn’t hold his position at all. Halak has let in 8 goals on 28 shots, in what world is this acceptable???? Be honest with yourself and think whether you’d be defending Price this same way in a similar situation.
Nobody knows, but we sense it and if the Habs win it’s all the more exhilerating. This isn’t Superman as my avatar with his “S” maligned into a “CH”. No! It’s Underdog!!!!! Which is what the Habs are this series.
Game 1 up to the 4-1 meltdown and tonight’s 2nd period are what’s killing the Habs. Plus it’s momentum. Momentum gained when the Caps came back from 4-1 and won in OT. Momentum that has exploded for 4 goals in 1 period.
Can the Habs turn that momentum around? How many people would take that bet? I would, only the odds would be so high, but I wouldn’t expect to win it. But that’s what sports are all about. Every once in a while an underdog makes some noise and comes close to winning it all. Rarely if ever do they go all the way, and those are the stuff that movies are made of.
I prefer having a team that’s the favourite that goes all the way, because they have more opportunities to go all the way thea the underdog.
I don’t like seeing my team fail, but that substitution should have happend 5 goals ago (in game 2) ———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
The fact that halak got pulled does not surprise me, what was shocking was that PRICE got cheered when he was put in, and you know win or loss Price will talk to the media ———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
Can we thank Halak as well for the 3 straight losses to end the regular season, which is the reason why we are being spanked by the Caps right now instead of playing against Nj or Buffalo?
Of course the 3 straight losses are not all on Halak just like he ISN’T the reason why we made the playoffs. Hockey is a team sport Halak and Price both got us to the playoffs by backstopping wins.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Best cumulative record over the four years is what I said. From their Cup in 79, until the mid 90s when Roy left they were there every year, usually top 5. You said they have not been good for 30 years. I say they had some very very good teams through the 80s and into the 90s.
I didn’t say Steve Penney was a great for the Habs. But in that year, 84 I beleive, they shocked the Bruins, Shocked Quebec, and were up 2-0 against the Islanders before they came to Earth. He had an incredible run that playoff year. I remember Dave Hodge and Don Cherry both picking Montreal as the most likely to be swept in the first round against the Bruins and it is Montreal who swept them.
And yes they lost in 89, in game six of the Stanley Cup final. Against a very good Calgary team. For God sakes they had 120 points that year, one behind the flames in the regular season. That makes them a pretty darn good team in my books.
Whatever – I’ll be his biggest fan if he plays well. He hasn’t and was anointed prematurely. I don’t think we’ll be in great shape with him back there, but like I said, I hope he proves me wrong.
I’m glad that you remember everything I’ve written. I haven’t a clue who you are.
JM is playing again only 3 lines. Darche played only 1.49 min. The other
lines are not fresh. We always lose when playing 3 lines. JM will never
learn.
If this ends the nonsence about trading Price, it is worth it for the greater good. This team has too few Canadians as it is with out trading our Canadian gold medal hero. It would be like the Hawks looking to deal Toews because they favor Kane.
You sort of understand…however, it is not all about just protecting Price…it is protecting Halak as well…two bad games and then toss him to the side? I do not think that it is a good idea…like you said, he gets Game #4 to show confidence in him but a short leash.
The difference between a playoff goalie and a nhl goalie is the way they keep their team in the game at situations like this. 3 goals on 13 shots doesn’t cut it.
I feel sorry for Halak and Price equally. Not their fault. The goalie gets a great team in front of him for 20 minutes then the Caps turn up the heat and the Habs choke in the second. But the key I think has been the poor officiating in general and the non-calls on goalie interference among other missed calls on the Caps. Criminal. I can understand it’s playoff hockey and the refs usually let the little ones go but this is absurd. The Habs penalties have been deserved but where are the Caps calls?
We were winning the first period with speed , speed and more speed. That requires quick line changes and four lines to sustain the pressure. JM is a dumbass. But we all know that. Unfortunately the mangement of this franchise is equally brain dead.
Wrong. I live in the US. I watch all games on the other teams’ feed. Soome are impartial (Islanders) and some are horribly partial (Caps, Bruins, Panthers, etc…). TSN is on the partial side.
What about Varlamov certainly he wasn’t the beter goalie for the Caps while Theo was undefeated for like 25 games. I give Boudreau all the credit in the world for pulling him and putting in Varly in game 2. It has paid off for the Caps we can only dream about what could have happened if JM had the balls to do that.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
Hey, he was not good enough in game 2, true. I was disappointed, because if he was better the team wins that game. Now the Caps woke up, and it’s game over. I don’t blame him for this game. The team was losing this game the whole time, no matter wahat happened. If Price plays, I wouldn’t be up in arms. I guarantee they still lose, so It doesn’t matter anyways.
Halak can’t turn down the arbitration reward if the Habs match it. It’s actually illegal. The only way either of them can leave if the Habs offer them contracts is if they sign in Europe.
Where’s the poster who questioned me earlier today about starting Price over Halak (4 goals 15 shots Sat. 3 goals 6 shots today) and then questioned our lack of scoring comparing quote” we have the same ammount of goals as the caps”. Also if the refs were bad Sat (and they were not ) today Zebras suck and i am starting to believe bettman want the caps to win. These refs are brutal and should’t be doing pee-wee games. I hope we score 4 in the third but however I’m also waiting for a date with Miss world. Maybe both would be nice. If Prcie does not start game 4 I’m off the the Moose / Hamilton game.
Tough to be optimistic about this series. The Habs have looked pitiful offensively tonight: no tough saves for Varlamov, no second chances, ABSOLUTELY NOONE near his crease, much less in his face. Most disappointing Hab for me is Pouliot: he has the size and skills to be a force, but after his strong start with the Habs he has been on vacation for quite some time.
Even though I want to see Price start a game in the playoffs, I hope Halak gets the start Game 4. Halak started losing his mental balance and toughness once Capitals started dicking and pushing him around.
Unfortunately, no one on this team has the balls to support our goalies.
This is where size matters.
The D has been brutal. It needs a makeover. I’ve mentioned it several times. Hamrlik and Bergeron need to be replaced by Subban and a hard-hitting defenseman. That would be a good start.
But I am not Pierre Gauthier. He has the magic keys.
Saying Price would lose 100% is just pure guessing…besides, Price had better stats than Halak this game…Halak: 3 goals in 13 shots in over 28 minutes and Price 2 goals on 23 shots in under 32 minutes…
Hey guys, let’s take a reality check and stop attacking each other. Montreal is a #8 seed playing the best team in the league. We have a lot of talented players but the Canadiens are not on the same level as the Caps. The series isn’t over but it’s a steep uphill climb from here. I think it’s Carey for the rest of the way and maybe he will elevate his game.
Islanders are the best, I agree…but I guarantee you that TSN would rather the Canadian team won here. problem is that Pierre MaGuire is an idiot, and makes them all look bad.

Will not change anything… It’s Ovie-Crosby all the way… Anyway…
Man… TSN is a f’in joke! I think they are all little Caps puck bunnies… Drooling over Boudreau and his fluffies… Done watching this for tonight…
Anyone tell me how TSN got this series and CBC got Boston-Buffalo??? Not that I want to listen to Craig Simpson or Greg Millen… but Gord & Pierre and the so-called expert panel is painful!!
agreed, so the players start sticking up for themselves and voicing their frustration to the refs, as you said our coach doesnt react, this is hockey not the opera!
When we’re talking about who should start the next game, using evidence to support your argument is logical, it’s not bashing. Saying Halak sucks would be bashing. I’m not saying that, I’m saying he’s not playing well enough to deserve another game.
TSN consensus says Halak wednesday. I would go with Price, no hesitation, I don’t blame Halak for any of the goals but you have to try and change momentum somehow. Price has a good lifetime record against Ovy and theres no reason to believe he’ll play poorly. Its really about changing things up and trying to get the team going, because no goalie will win game 4 if we play like we did the 2nd today.
THUD!!! and the Habs come crashing back to earth…and reality. Washington has woken up. Too small, too soft, and a pop gun offense. Bring on the tee times.
82 games of mediocrity, during the regular season and people are STILL blaming the refs. GET OVER IT!!
I actually thought the Habs would make a series of this but, if Halak’s gonna crap the bed every night, from game two on out, then this should be over soon. Unless, of course, Carey Price……….awe screw it.
This “defensive team”, as Pierre Macguire put it the other night, aren’t very good…..especially on defense.
Like I said, Halak was not good enough in game 2. He was good in game 1. This game had nothing to do with goaltending. Call him in between this game then. Hey, start Price. I have no big issue with it. I am almost sure they lose the next 2 no matter what, anyways. It won’t make any difference with this team. For a shot at a momentum shift and because Price may be mentally sharper, go for it, I say. I’m just very saddened and discouraged that I wasn’t wrong about this team
Once they moderated one of my posts, don’t know why..won’t repeat cuz they might moderate this one, but I’ll give you a hint. It’s from a seinfeild episode where they line was “Not that there is anything wrong with that”. With some of the c*** i read hear I was really surprised they took that out. Been afraid to post here since that. LOL
Not that Doug needs me to speak for him…but get over yourself. Doug (and myself, and MANY others) were quite upfront on the feelings about Price. It’s you who needs to account for your hatred of Halak.

Philosophically, and there isn’t much else at this point:
Halak played awfully in the last 3 games of the regular season( he wasn’t alone BTW) but a win would improve the playoff cede so pressure was on! ( not to mention two of the last 3 games at home and the additional pressure to perform in front of the Bell Center faithful).
When a point was needed in a last chance situation against the LAFFS Halak looked and played like a nervous kiddy at the dentist.
Playoffs vs Caps:
Game 1, the expectations were low and pressure non-existant and Halak played well.
Game 2 “the collapse” whether interference or whatever the cause, the pressure ramped up and Halak folded.
Game 3 Say no more. Expectations were high, home crowd, pressure on and voila!
I wonder what Alan Walsh is posting on Twitter tonight??? “anyone looking for a good but very fragile goaltender?”
Today, right now, the Canadiens have neither Elite or Consistent goaltending and as a group a very slow, soft and positionally poor defense. The level of play of both are up and down as often as the drawers on a Bangkok bar-girl
Game in and game out neither can be depended on for a consistent result or the big play.
Game 2 vs Caps a case of deja-vu going back eerily similarly to the collapse vs. Carolina 2002 they surrendered a three goal lead in the second period and then promptly dropped the next two and the series.
This 2009-2010 team if frustrated offensively early as they were in the first period or get a bad goal scored on them consistently will throw its hands and the air and quit and the penalties just flow.
The back-end of this team needs a flush similar to the one done on the front-end last year!
“The three stars as selected by Red Fisher of the Montreal Star:
1st star: Henri Richard
2nd Star: Doug Harvey
3rd Star: Jacques Plante
Final score Detroit Red Wings 5 Montreal Canadiens 3″
Dave – Hal Gill, our version of Allan Stanley, is our best player tonight. That’s not a knock against him, but rather an evaluation of how the rest of the Dmen are playing. It’s not the refs, it’s us. We’re still a team that can’t handle the physical aspect of playoff hockey.
Imagine having paid big money to ticket scalpers to be at the Bell Centre for this nonsense tonight?! At least the rest of us have had the luxury of quick access to booze/vomit bags/pain killers at home.
Anyone else think Metro isn’t ready to return? He’s a warrior for trying, but it reminds me of Bouillon last season in game 3, who got reinjured on his second shift. It sucks the life out when one guy can’t keep up.
Oh ya, it’s a real stretch. The team scored 1 and Price let in 2 in half a game as it was. How do we win if he plays a full game? Price had better stats this game. So f#$%ing what! He was on pace to let in 4. it’s so irrelevant it’s not even funny. This team has no chance….put in who you would like. I don’t care.
“Does anyone think that victory is possible without facing danger? At times like these we all need to be reminded who we truely are. That we will not give up or give in”
Sure this is a tough one to swallow and many of the performances were sub-par but we musn’t feel sorry for ourselves. Time to pick it up and continue supporting, and our boys will put in the effort. We’ll have all summer to shit on eachother and the players who we believe are at fault, but now, for right now it’s time to rally together.
Hey – this is the top scoring team in hockey we’re playing. We just have to win the third period and play well on Wednesday. I’m not ready to give up.
It sure is funny to see the Price Patrol falling all over as they pat themselves on the back. Hey brainless ones – if Halak doesn’t play awesome this year we’re not in the playoffs. He has outplayed Price for two years. I agree with Martin’s decision to bring in the backup, but really, Price-lovers, you are collectively sickening.
I wonder if slipping Price in ,will allow him to redeem himself & become a legendary Montreal Goalie ala Ken Dryden, Patric Roy………I know I’m dreaming but wouldn’t that be a good thing……
Alright…I am over my disappointment…I still believe the Habs have a chance because the Caps have not won four games yet…the Habs WILL come out better prepared to NOT just watch the puck in the defensive zone…
The Habs have played nine periods of hockey and have been impressive in FIVE of those periods…this was a meaningful game, ie. first home playoff game of the season and they always wet the bed in a meaningful home game. They will be much better in Game #4.
Nothing against Halak at all, but I’d like to see Price start the next game. Both have played some great playoff games, and some not so good. For whatever reason, Halak had a chance and couldn’t get it done. Give the reins to Carey for a game. If he craps the bed, at least we feel better about losing him next summer. What’s to lose?
-Dustin-
“The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.
I saw the comment. It was directed at Clay I think and was just a personal attack, basically. It was more about that than any other point, so it was deleted. When Boone stepped in a few months ago he said that personal attacks without hockey content might be deleted. At the risk of being deleted, I’m not trying to be personal but you have tendency to get personal, whether with foul language or just in a somewhat patronizing way.
That’s the way I see it, anyways. . . for however long this post may or may not exist.
i hope our defense is upgraded in the summer. needs to get faster, uglier and younger if possible. alot of goals being scored down low we cannot match the caps is this area.
It’s great to say Halak had an .820 save percentage in two games. He deserved it for the last game he played. But he didn’t deserve it tonight. His defenceman fell on him on the first one, and left him open to multiple shooters and screens on the other two. Tonight wasn’t his fault, but he’ll get screwed for it anyway.
Nice of him to come in though and take the L on his record rather than have Allan Walsh have to defend it when he Twitters his contract demands for Halak.
Wonder what Gomes yelled at the refs when he got his miscontuct, but i bet it went something like this ” Why don’t you f&*% heads do your job ad call the right calls”
Price is going to keep them in it…he does NOT want to lose. Great call by Martin to pull Halak, he was rattled by the 1st goal (not good), but thank goodness our backup (weird eh) is CAREY PRICE. We’re in good hands. We need guys in Varly’s face from the start of the third!
“As well, can you imagine giving a key player on another team a 10 minute misconduct!!! For what??? And then to hit Pleks with 4 minutes!!! 2 of our very best out for 14 minutes in the middle of a PLAY-OFF GAME!!”-I agree, the refs get an earful all the time from players and you never see them get a misconduct. Especially a top 6 forward. If that was the case crosby would the leagues penalty minute leader every year. Then pleks gets nailed for doing the same thing the caps were doing all game 2? I’ve been saying for years the league reeks of corruption and have gotten some slack for it. But man,i watch a boat load of hockey on a daily basis (i have a hockey loving wife) and you see differences in the way games are called compared to habs games.
Wasn’t me, but I’ll question you right now. Halak deserved the start tonight, and NONE of the three goals (nor the one on Price) were even remotely the fault of the goalie(s).

Metro was not ready, he ws too far behind the play and had to short-shift. We can’t afford to have him in right now when we have a player like SK with more to offer. I think his value and Andrei’s go up if they play together. Cammi looks tentative going into corners, he needs to play with guys like Gomez and Gionta who are playing there hearts out right now. Pouliot is skating well but he is having problems controlling the puck and cammi does that better to support Gomez and Gionta. Darche sits over Laps (who is playing fairly well) and Pyatt (who is a better skater and can play PK). MAB is not an NHL defenceman, and certainly not one in the playoffs. OB has better size and is a decent skater. He can’t pinch as much as he has in the last few regular season games though cause he’s not good enough to get back in position. Would still love to see Subban up with the club, maybe even spell hamrlik a game of rest and let him come back rested for game 5. Price gets the start b/c the habs need to get a fresh start in nets right now. halak has been average and unfortunately habs need a goalie to steal a game, so price gets a chance.
Four goals and I really couldn’t blame the goalie on any of them. Not loving MAB though. Main thing though is just the skill mismatch between the Caps and Habs.
You’re the minority in this fight so you might want to shut it more people like/prefer price over halak. ———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
Nah. He was terrible all year long. I wouldn’t blame him for this game. When he starts next game and we get blown out again, I’ll still blame the real culprit. BG and the terrible team he put together. Good riddance.
I’m not knocking Darche, I like what he brings (for the most part). I just don’t agree with putting him in over Sergei. The Caps are all about offence….we need to defend them but we also need offence to beat them. Why not put our more offensive players in?
Darche is french.
just for saying that?

Sitting him worked well against the Leafs. . . . . not to be pessimistic. . . . . I guess Darche adds more grit.
sounds about right coming from JM, no need to make any sense!
Well Serge is out – Tits and all!
What does Sergei have to do to get some minutes? Seriously, this is ridiculous. He’s been good at both ends of the ice.
Yea… don’t know how I feel about that. SK can actually pull out all the stops and score if a good opportunity is found. He can be a game changer. We’ve seen him have a 3 pts game this year.
are you kidding, darche could shoot the puck in his own net and still not get benched over serge tits
This is alot more difficult then I thought.. ESPN Center Ice is only for Europe? Im here in Montreal…

It’s a photo from before last season. Check out the neckline on the jersey; it’s not the new Reebok Edge jersey.

seriously, you’re an idiot for saying that!

Bouchard is a smart coach.
JM is a dumb one. there’s no way Halak should be in goal, unless of course you enjoy losing.
the key is not to get too high for the first 15min and get gassed for the rest of the game…it only works if we get 2 goals ….better to play reserved but with the crowd noise that will be hard
Interesting.
I hope Jaro gets it together … c’mon boys.
Thanks

I assume it wont work, is illegal, etc. Id rather pay a few bucks to get a good quality view of the game.

Anyone know how I can watch tonites game?
I dont have TSN/RDS and would like to watch the game at home (not in a bar)
I remember RDS used to offer games online for 2-3$ but I dont think they are doing that this year.
What are my options?
Thanks in advance!

“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
Here’s to more of that tonight…
Yeah, so far, as Backstrom goes, so do the Caps.

We must destroy Backstrom and the rest will crumble. He’s the hive mind that controls the offense. He needs to be targeted.

Cammy scores 2 tonight. AK46 will get another. Pouliot will bury a feed from Gomez. Bergeron scores on the PP. 5-3 Habs.
I also think the Habs crowd is a bigger problem here than Washington’s snipers. Quite a problem, I think.
Boudreau on the Poti fight: “It gave us life.”
So let me get this straight. It took a crappy fight (against the 8th seeded team) to give life to the Presidents cup winners.
Pathetic!

“Fans are great, but the quickest way to start losing is to listen to them.”

Same here.
I’m confident in the boys. Just forget the 3rd period and go back to standing up at the blueline and they will be fine.
Also, Washington’s D is pretty lame and they have shaky goaltending. This will be a walk in the park.
I would like to see Carey Price in goal during this series.
It’s the FanJam from 4 to 7pm. And Lucian Bute is the special guest who’ll be there today. I’ll be going as well..hope it’ll be a good night!
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
Does anyone know what they call the party outside before the game, and when it starts?
You mean a tailgate? Do we even have those in Montreal?
I’m pretty stoked, heading to Montreal for the game tonight. Does anyone know what they call the party outside before the game, and when it starts?
GO HABS GO
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Hoping Yappierre would sit!
Get some heart into the side!
“The three stars as selected by Red Fisher of the Montreal Star:
1st star: Henri Richard
2nd Star: Doug Harvey
3rd Star: Jacques Plante
Final score Detroit Red Wings 5 Montreal Canadiens 3″
In all honesty, it is probably fair game…I mean, how many times after a loss this season have the Price-haters said that Price was too busy crying to win the game or some such nonsense?
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Price will only get a chance IF the team is down 3-1…if it is a loss tonight but Halak looks good, Halak gets Game #4 as he should.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Game 1 was not a BIG game and game 2 was? Some kind of failed logic there.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Fair enough..maybe not you exactly but in this wonderful HvP debate, we have always had “if H/P were in, we’d have won”…moreso with Halak earning the #1 spot…but you gotta admit, against NYI and TO and Game #2, he did not look good, against Carolina, he was abandoned, but Game #1 was all Halak….if we really want to nitpick – 5 big games and he is 1-4…not fair to do, but with so many convinced of his greatness…
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
So if you play well in 1 out of 6 big games, you’re a big game goaltender?
My point exactly…

Less than great? That’s giving a lot of credit where none is deserved. Look at your own bias before calling out other people for having biases. Halak let in 5 goals on 15 shots over the last 22 minutes of the game on Saturday. That’s not “less than great”, it’s atrocious. If Price had done the same thing you’d be leading the lynch mob on this site with Shiloh.
REPOST (sorry, just hoping someone has some sort of solution)
So.. living in Montreal am I at the mercy of RDS/TSN?
ESPN center ice doesnt seem to let me watch the game here. Same a NHL.com (blackouts?)
can someone confirm? help?
I just want to watch the game from the comfort of my home.

“I am guilty of using elipses…”
this is how its going to be, like it or not.

What a shame. horrible marketing if you ask me.

Not to disagree, but to call you on your statement. WHICH BIG GAMES ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?

I have confidence that Jaro will bounce back.

You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
if by the logic that price would start tonight cause halak was weak on 3 goals on saturday, then the caps should be starting neuvirth in nets.
- Habs Romance (Lady Gaga remix) http://montreal.virginradio.ca/blogs/39/posts/464

You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
darche is a serviceable player playing 7-10 minutes per game, but sergei has a lot of potential. I’m okay with benching sergei for the rest of the game, but for the next game too? it just seems like JM hates sergei and writes his name on the gamesheet with a scowl on his face. any chance he gets to semi-legitimately bench sergei, he’d do it!
- Habs Romance (Lady Gaga remix) http://montreal.virginradio.ca/blogs/39/posts/464

Not only that but he rewards Darche with PP time right after.

would have gone with sergei on the PP. It’s inexplicable that sergei doesn’t get ANY PP time at all. even during all the injuries, we saw trotter, desharnais, and darche get PP time before sergei did.

http://www.myp2pforum.eu/nhl-icehockey/ Pretty good chance a french feed will be up there, pretty much gurantee an english feed will be up there.
Man, do I agree with you.
I am getting worked up. Time to calm down.
Go Habs Go.
not only should we add some “theo” chants, but mix in some “MILLER! MILLER! MILLER!” chants, and when pleks scores we all cheer “JAGR, JAGR, JAGR!’

I’m not sure how perfect the sync is, but you can mute the TV and listen to CJAD [cjad.com | 800AM]. They’re fantastic.

True, but they won the previous year with a different coach and I’m sure they could’ve found another coach soon enough, who wouldn’t want the opportunity to coach Lemieux and Jagr? Lemieux playing the 90s with no health issues, my god the possibilities…

And if we were playing the Pens…
I fail to see how this one play of SK74, caused the spiral down fall of the entire team. If MTL’s mentality is this frail, they have no buisness being anywhere near the playoffs. Or the NHL for that matter.
Other players made mistakes far greater than that over the course of the evening, yet your entirely comfortable putting the last 3 goals on his plate.
Bravo.
Absolutely awasome
I’m still not a fan of Crosby, but he is slightly more tolerable now than when he first broke in. Two or three years ago, I would have backed Ovechkin over Sid, now not so sure. I’d take either one on my team without hesitation, but man are some of the things Ovechkin does defenseless.

Exactly!!
true dat! unleash that big dog.
Jaro was not available to the media as he was fuming about all of the goaltender interference that WASN’T called. The team didn’t want him to get fined/suspended.

GO HABS GO!
who do you sit for O’b?
MAB and Marky have been very good together and are integral to our PP.
Gorges makes up for Gills lack of mobility, and Gill has been using his size and reach very effectivley.
Spacek and Hammer are veteran conerstones that help keep the corps to task.
Our worst D-man in the series thus far IMO has been Hammer. You wouldn’t sit him for O’B now would you?
I agree completely. Now is the time the Habs really need O’Byrne.
yet darche did the same thing which led to the 3rd goal and was rewarded with PP time and probably a promotion to the 3rd line tonight?
I agree, if Gomez is gone to the sin bin, why would SK not be the guy to take his place on the pp? i mean he does have some offensive skills, more than darche i would say
Ovechkin on Halak:
“I watched the replay when Fehr scored the goal and his arm was shaking
when he drank water,” Ovechkin said of Halak after he allowed Eric Fehr
to score on a breakaway in the first period of Game 2. “So, he’s
nervous. He knows all the pressure is on him and that’s a good sign for
us.”
lol. As if he’s gonna talk about our goaltender, when Theo (their amazing 20-0-3 starter) didn’t last 2 shots in that game. And Varly wasn’t spectacular either.
“love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti”
I don’t think Jaro could grow facial hair in that picture. He looks SO young!
i’d sit laps or darche
- Habs Romance (Lady Gaga remix) http://montreal.virginradio.ca/blogs/39/posts/464
Mr. Boone your love affair with Carey Price is once again evident in this unfair and less than objective analysis of Halak. Halak has shown throughout his career that he can play the BIG games.
I know it pains you not to see Price leading the Habs onto the Bell ice, but please try to have some journalistic objectivity.
I KNOW! Why does he always get the shaft?

Except Finland-Slovakia for the Bronze, Game 2 against the Capitals with a trio of questionable goals and the last week of the regular season where we needed points for a playoff appearance and we escaped with a couple of loser points instead off of questionable Jaro performances. Halak has failed in some huge games this year.
These are the Big games right now, points needed for playoffs, critical win on away ice to get a 2-0 lead in the series and Halak was not up to it in those games.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

Oh man, thats going on my FB!
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
Only way we see Price is if we go down by 3 or by 2 early. If we lose close games I dont see him getting a chance.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
Is this the first time reading Boones Blog? No way does he have a love affair with Price.
Halak has never shown anything since he didnt have the chance. This is his chance.
A good goalie manages to keep his team in the game even when playing less than optimum. Halak had a less than great game unlike in game 1, but he still gave his team a chance to win.
Are you freakin kidding me?
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
Except for the 5-5 tying goal, and the winning goal. Halak blew it on both of them and that’s why we’re looking for a bounceback rather than a potential 3-0 lead in the series. He was huge in Game 1, but it didn’t carry to game 2, even with all the goalie interference he blew goals he would’ve stopped cold in Game 1. Keeping your team in the game means making that save on those winning/tying goals, if Price had flubbed those chances, the firestorm we’d have on here…
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Agreed.
It would be total anarchy lol
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
I fail to see the controversy. Halak has earned his starter position with his fine play this year which allowed the Habs to even make the playoffs. His winning percentage was far superior to that of Price.
To even contemplate starting Price in a critical game 3 at HOME is more than ridiculous. It is unfair to both Halak and Price, and no coach would do that to either player.
If, and that is a big if, Halak falters tonight then Price will get his chance to prove he is the ONE.
Agreed , he is just a fan with media credentials but dont agree on the Price Halak thing. I seem to recall him bashing Price all year.
That is a silly comment to make because who can ever predict such an outcome.
btw did jm ever try putting gui with gommez and gio
.::moen for captain::.
I dunno but with a name like Simeon, you could all show up wearing monkey masks… get it? Simian?
Yes
The refereeing only sucks when ya notice and it apparently sucks in a lot of series.
Hopefully Price gave Jaro some tips on how to clear the crease.
This will be the game that swings momentum in favour of the victor.

anyone other then me have an UNREAL good feeling about this game ?
Everyone worried about scratching Sergei, Darche, Lapierre ? Scrath them all I say !!! I want some of these guys……..Gainey, Carbo, Lambert, Trembley, Jimmy Roberts, Houle, Skrudland, McPhee, Keane. Those are the kind of third fourth liners you can wi a cup with !!!!
No.
The torch be yours to hold it high!
It was f$%kin pathetic.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/boxscore.htm?id=2009030112
No arguments from me.
The torch be yours to hold it high!
The 2nd Washington’s goal was a clear goaltending interference.
Hey Boone, can you or the rest of the HIO crew try to post the Hickey interview on TSN later? I’d like to watch it when I have time (as I’m sure would the rest of the peanut gallery)!
but halak is usually stellar at home…
after dutifully analyzing Ace analysts Robert L and Chris Boyle break down the 11 Game 2 goals, I have figured out how we can beat the Caps.
And then, when the final siren has sounded we will be surrounding Jaro joyfully because we will have won.
i’d like that too
Put shovelfuls of pucks behind Semen Varlamov.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I think the Habs can get the goaltending to win another two games just with that … maybe they’ll get lucky and the rest of the team can win one together.

we need to just relax, change the sheets, and realize where we are. this team can play with this other team and we need to play the way we have been (like in the second period of game 1.) to see this thing through. we’re good enough, we’re smart enough and, gosh darn it, we can do this.

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB
Habs need to pick up that tonight, cross-checking is a legal offense.
Next game is yet to be seen.
http://twitpic.com/1gwedz
If only we had the size and skill to match the intensity. Good effort guy’s now lets go to the net in the second. Go Habs Go!!
Screw you Ovie. Is he all that TSN cares about? They are madly in love with the guy, sheesh!
Cmon….let’s pot one here!
AWESOME!!
thats funny.
Silly Fleischmann, if you’d cross-checked Markov you could’ve gotten away with it!
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

Ahhhhhhhh for F’s sake!!!!!!!!!
damn it
BS.
Hamrlik, you’re done after this year, I swear you’d better retire.

Again, the only thing beating the Habs is themselves.
FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
QUIT BACKING INTO OUR GOALIE!!! OMG!!
Spacek took out Halak.
Sorry, but after that, i think we lost the game.
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
what the hell is wrong with hamrlik? He’s been bumbling everything on the offensive blueline.
Cmon crowd…get back into it!!!
Our lack of finish will be the death of us.

”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
And that is what I was trying to say. Go to the net. Not a hard concept. Been the same for years. Maybe someday we will learn.
We are done!! Spacek sucks, we get 3 shots on 2 PP and a goal against.
No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.
Hamrlik is brutal! Wake up man!
he should have just jumped on varlamovs head there to even things up a bit
Pouliot and Hamerlik should not get PP time, both seem completely lost. Varlamov looking alot like Ward 2.0 out there.
Oh our players went hard to the net and crashed the goalie, too bad it was our own.
No sense of urgency on the PP, they have more drive on 5 on 5. I don’t understand it either.
Lol, to funny Showey but so true.
Caps are ripe for the picking.
Pouliot just needed to pot that golden chance.
We’re getting the better of them.
Hal Gill is playing like a monster, mainly because he hasn’t been burnt yet. But I lke.
If the refs are going to throw the game then its time to take Ovie out to even things up come on Laps take out his knees.
Hey y’all, I know you missed me.
To sum up this mixed bag of a first period:
1)GREAT F’IN ENERGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2)Un-f’in-believable non-calls on Benny on the PP and on Max in the Caps’ end, pure garbage.
3)Jaro looks steady, aside from the glove blunder.
4)PK is looking friggin’ phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5)Caps’ PxP and color guys are a joke, so GD biased.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gill is a monster on the PK…..actually he’s a monster just with skates on.
Mcguire is an idiot… simple as that. I think he has a man crush on Carlson too!
I’m with you and Danno below…why not? Let’s do this!

4. Not benching MAB
Look at the guys on the ice right now. Pleks, Bergeron, AK46. Which of these guys can defend themselves. That is why we are losing. Two many guys that are the same.
Yes, it is unfortunate he does not possess the winning record of Price in the playoffs. DUH???
MAB has to sit and you play O’Bryne we need the size and toughness plus you put Price in because he can handle the running a little better. Second the Molson have to speak out about the refing because we can ‘t have our playing doing it come on boys protect your team and the fans. I think you have to bring up PK Suban and sit Hammer and you bring up Neilson and let him go at their goalie. You put him on with Gomez and Gionta and he will create some room. I know one thing if that idoit JM does nothing this is all over.
Yes she is haha
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
The referee isn’t even trying to look neutral here anymore.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Dogs aren’t doing well either, 2 goals on the first 4 shots by Manitoba on a pair of PPs.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Stop being an asshole,…………Price blows most palyoff series he’s evr been in. However now is his time to maybe become a winner….so far he’s only proven he’s a loser…Let’s hope if he’s in nets then he turns things around….Tonights Habs were f^789ng $hit…….
Boo. They had to pot one there. Boooooo.
Halak got his chance, played like swiss cheese, not it’s time for Price to show him how it’s done in the “PLAYOFFS”. Nobody can saya nything, I’m tired to people defending Halak for their lives.
Refs will need security tonight
Give it to em Cammy. Bunch of incompetent cheaters!
Agree. Total waste!
Have we EVER had a worse period???????
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Cammi on offside: “Me? ME?! No F(*$&IN WAY! NO WAY!” Good lip reading.
He shouldn’t be
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Refs are handing us a **** sandwich and telling us to enjoy it.

Aside from your plea for civility, your comments are the same sort of value judgments that are expressed by other people here.
well that is the perfect sum up to the season
love it…. i would run varlamov again…… who cares… just full speed run him over
maybe the would have scored but the refs threw out one of the main players on our PP
for telling hte refs they don’t know how to do thier job
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
lmao…that maybe true..
Well I guess we know what we need.Bigger faster players .Lets see what the great management team comes up with starting with the coach.
You know… I really do think our HUGE problem is lack of puck control from our D.
We need a guy like Subban up here… Too bad it has to wait til at least next year.
Losing their cool bad! FU ref! Buttman’s just lovin this!
Was Cammy offside or not? He looked furious with the call. Don’t have a PVR or whatever they call it…
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
They are too busy counting the money from two home playoff games to really care.
Give it up Timo….punch your teddy bear.
When Buffalo is behind they will often play FIVE forwards on the PP. Of course JM will do something outside the box when hell freezes over.
We are behind JM, maybe think about going 100% offense?
That eating JM’s contract literally and financially is preferable to another year of this?
That and raise holy hell about NHL officating, being the Montreal Canadiens shouln’t mean you should be targeted for punitive measures.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Give me a stick I will do it!
No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.
They are having an X.
If we can keep this up, we should be able to save face and go into game 4 with atleast an ounce of the momentum.
Backstrom is showing ecery game that he is way way way better then any player we have.
Sad atmosphere, but not as bad I thought it would be…
Very well said! Guy is a complete joke.
It didn’t look it to me. The puck was in the air.
Please explain that

The fight in game 2 was stupid, but I really can’t fault him for this.
i know that!
You must have a very sad sad life.
Not to sound like a poor loser, but they miss their offsides and call us on anything close on the offside, and they almost never are!!!
Timo play hockey? HaHa. Now that is funny. Guy is a joke. Has no idea what hes talking about. I bet if he did play hockey and his team was down 1-0 he left the bench and went crying to his dad saying things like “This team has no heart, they suck, etc etc”
Gomez is pissed WTF poulio(t)

T. Pyatt 4:35
This team is horrible. Hit someone for christs sake!!!!!!!!
i tuned into the game in the middle of the second period and here are some thoughts.

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
LOL
The Bulldogs that are losing?
1) So why watch — if you know the Caps are going to win?
2) You honestly are speaking for “most” people on this site?
Give me a break. Some “fans” are disappointing in that they think the team is fated to lose. How do you explain game 1? How do you explain 60 minutes of game 2? How do you explain today’s first period? Destiny was not working its course?
Bulldogs now fighting Back from a bad 4-0 deficit, 4-2 now thanks to
some sharp work by guys like White and Anderson. Boucher is coaching to WIN.

http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
A sad sight to behold as our team unravels before our incredulous eyes…
why does pouliot always turn around. drive to the net big guy!
LMAO….you kill me dude
MAB is USELESS
Sit Darche for SK.
OB in for MAB. Use SK on the PP instead.
Roll 4 lines.
Forecheck and try to limit the Caps space, as they did in game 1.
Get some net presence as Varly is a rebound machine.
Start Price.
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Blow the GD whistle!!
You’re talking about the officials right?
- I Hab Faith
Our guys brake instead of going for the hit. When you are out-sized you’ll have a tendency to do that.
Size matters……

3 goals in 10 minutes COME ON!!! I STILL BELIEVE!!
they got outshot 51-17 and they were blocking shots?
I will tell him that on Wednesday from my seat
If I believe for a second that JM could possibly get fired I’d content myself with that. But he’s in the first year of a four year contract, he’s Gauthier’s best pal, and he speaks the right language (sort of). He’s not going anywhere.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Now now, it’s his first year with us, go after Lapierre first please…..
In Guy Boucher I trust.
The problem with dressing 7 D is the Habs can’t roll 4 lines.
Will someone, the Coach, the GM, the Owners call out the blatant BS that is NHL officiating?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
True.
I was thinking of a few comments but my thought about it were really more about the name calling that was in it so I guess I only have one point.
My bad, I by no means meant to judge anybody’s loyalty to the Habs, sry if I came out that way.
Come on man. You’ve been shaming yourself lately.
Extremely, no way he should be in over Burner
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
What to do with JM for next year
Knuble is a mother…goof.
i think the most upsetting thing was watching Gomez and Plecky stick up for themselves and the team and getting sh*t on by the refs, can you blame them for exploding and saying some not very nice things? And i know the refs were not the reason we lost but JM needs to step up, not let the players be punished for telling the truth. All year it is the same story and for once I was hoping the refs would stay out but it just isn’t possible. I do not believe it is possible to beat the Caps and the refs, the Cap have too much power as do the refs.
I love the Habs and want to see them win but this was so deflating and I can only imagine how the guys feel right now.
And..hold on, did MAB almost score in his own net with Carey in it??? WTH?!
You really need an ass kicking. God I wish I could meet you in a dark alley or bar.
it’s about time… that is ridiculous.. i would 2 hand varlamov
More like Price starts and were down 3-1
It’s about they called one on the crease crashers!
You do that, you go to the box, you know. FOUR minutes, by yourself, you
know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free.
Time for a little Billy Smith whack job….
Do it Carey and I will buy your jersey…….
In Guy Boucher I trust.
is there a free video feed available or just audio?
The goaltender interference call on Knuble should have been called last game! This call was one game too late
And we’re stuck with Dumbo…
Which period?
OMG.. They’re actually calling goaltender interference on the Caps?
AHL Video feeds dried up a while ago, I’m reading the boxscore on theAHL.com
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

Hey Buddy,
If you’d watched the game without your head up your arse you would have seen halak get owned physically and offensively
You’re dreaaming…Price is not the better goalie.

These two homos on Comcast deserve to call Islander games. Incredible talentless blowhards.
Terrible way for us to end this game, completely given up, no fight left, only frustration. Hopefully we save face in the 3rd and lose 4-2 or something the like.
If that call gets made last game, who knows where we are right now.
The last time I looked. It’s the best of 7 Not the best of three!!!!!!!!!Washington didnt go 82-0..We proved they are beatable!!!!
keep the faith people!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There’s plenty of room on the LAFFS band wagon
Complete and total MELTDOWN! Making it look easy for the Caps.
That can’t be right.
It’s not a penalty to hit our goalie.
Yo Ian good thing you did not make that bet with me, I would have had beer on your 50 bucks
Any predictions for the final score? I will guess 31 goals for the Caps to -14 for the Habs.
hahaha nice one!
LoL, Halak put us in this whole, gave caps all the momentum they can handle and Crowd chanting against Price? Somethign is seriously wrong with these fans.
It has been done before!!

wtf is this.. we clear the crease and get a penalty.
gomez gets thrown out.
pleks pushes a guy into varly.. something the caps have been doing all game long on saturday and gets 4 minutes?!?!?
wtf is that all about?!?!?!?
i wish our coach had the testicular fortitude to call out the refs.
then again we didn’t score a single goal

Wrong. Sounded like “referees suck”
Caps announcers complaining about officiating.

Why is Ryan White not playing with the Habs. He has impressed me everytime he has been brought up. I seriously question this clubs ability to assess NHL talent.
They want to make sure we are beaten soundly tonight for daring to try to compete with one of Bettmans’s chosen teams. It is only going to get worse.
These washington announcers are utter morons and homers. It is torture watching it with the Caps feed.
Pretty easy to see now why Minnesota gave up on Pouliot. I HATE exceptionally talented but lazy, gutless, arrogant floaters like him.
Ah shaddup you bunch of morons, we didn’t have a chance in hell at beating this team.
goaltender int? this must be a dream
Agree with JM needing to step up.
I want to see him angry dammit, he acts like he’s too cool to bothered by anything. It seriously irritates me
you know, it’s games like these where I wish Roy was the coach, at least he would speak his mind and not lose his players for unsportsmanlike conducts because they have to stnd up for themselves, he would just go crazy and get his point across and himself thrown out
wow so teh refs actually came up to JM and told him that the habs players have no right to talk to them anymore and they will get a penalty if they do

HaHa!!! Why do you ever post here Timo? I can’t remember reading any of your posts that were ever positive or better yet worth reading…
Craig Laughlin says there protecting the goalies too much, God forbid if a Caps goalie was whaked, hacked and run over, he would sing a differnt tune
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Since our D cant clear the crease Jaro has to start throwing blockers to the backs of the Capitals heads when they get close to the blue paint
I still hear Jacques Martin talking about how close all the series games are, er, were.
See Ovey on that call.. HEY REF your not supposed to call that on us.. Gshhh whats wrong with you..
Hey Boone, I hope I can put this one in my DVD collection, It would be sweet if they showed some Guard Damn Respect
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
i see, it has to be an all out tackle to get the interference call
Best post in a while…
I think all the BAD calls and NON-CALLS that this team has endured all season has finally EXPLODED tonight!
Let’s go here.
One word: Dispiriting.
Pouliot and MAB have not been very good. Nor have Pleks, AK46 & Cammalleri…
Actually, I think it was Dominic Moore!!!
How was the atmosphere after the game??
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
WHAT?
we just can’t afford to lose our better players for misconducts, the coach needs to take care of that part of the game, plus now the guys are afraid to go anywhere near varlmov or even sneeze on a capital players because we are guaranteed a least 2 minutes if not more.
The fans need to call it out. They should chant FIX FIX FIX to get the message out.
habs up 4-1… goatender int? whats that?
habs down 4-1, goaltender int? THATS NOT ALLOWed… oh yea
lol what?
Halak loses 2 games and people jump the bandwagon.
Watch Price lose next two, and people will jump the bandwagon again.
Do I smell something burning?
No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.
These refs are the biggest @ssholes ever.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
GO HABS GO
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
A useless fighting major in Game Two, and tonight a 10 minute misconduct… Who wants Gomez for Captain???? (Rolls eyes)
Way to welcome back the franchise’s greatest captain tonight, guys.

WTF!! A makeup call?
Don’t waste your energy on a coward, not worth it.
Andrei WTF!
The 2nd goal was stoppable, sure it would have been a nice save, a big playoff type save, but he didnt make it. Thats my point. Like goal 5 and 6 in game 2. You can’t critique Price in a wash up, Lets see when the score is 0-0 to judge his performance

OH MY GOD!!!! WTF!?!?!?!?
Allright Yoda
absolutely!!! absolute coaching failure here if we don’t run varlymov hard. if you’re gonna take that penalty, take it hard.
Wow.
-Dustin- “The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.
just went back and watched the original pleky penalty. The exact same thing the caps did to us in game 2 and we get nailed for it now. Pure b.s.
Nautrally
Who starts game 4? Who cares?
BETTMAN CALLED IN AND SAID!!! GIVE THE HABS A PENALTY NOW!!!. NO WAY WE CAN LET THEM BACK INTO THE GAME
Not sure what you are talking about…Pouliot was hitting and fighting for the puck and skating hard…it was his line that looked dangerous the entire night….meanwhile, Pleks’ line were all -4 EACH….
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Jesus H F’ing Christ!
Definitely they are. Didn’t you see the refs failing to defend against Caps’ players in front of the net for easy goals? The refs are undoubtedly respsonsible for defensive lapses by Habs players. They control the players’ actions.
WEAK CALL.
Jaro had his chance, he stunk in game 2 and was no better tonight. Couldn’t deliver the big save when we needed it, Hes done to me
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Brutal AK
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
The call on AK in the third while they were on the powerplay said volumes about the refs. That was a agenda call he didn’t want to give the Habs any life . So long as management sits on thier hands and do not speak out about this it will continue I am proud of the players but I am ashamed of the ownship and management of this team. The ownership of this team has let these player and the fans down they are a bunch of cowards and a complete disgrace to the history of this team.
that is absolute horseshit
How about we stop worrying about the players AND goalies’ feelings, who’s “earned” what, who “deserves” what and we play to win. Halak has allowed 8 goals on his last 28 shots against, in just over 2 periods of hockey. No team can win with goaltending like that. The blame isn’t entirely on him, the defense needs to get back to playing the way they did in game one and most of game 2, but Halak blew it.
Even TSN’s ANti-Habs guys think that’s BS.
Can we start seeing some articles about how the NHL is trying to fix the playoffs?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

What you did in the post season really doesn’t matter
if you Knew hockey you would know that
look at carolina in 06
cam ward was ok all season and Darth Gerber was bombing in the playoffs
WARD WON THE CUP
As much as the game score isn’t their fault, i’m still pissed at the refs. That’s BS when this is exactly what Washington got away with before. If the Caps get called for this stuff, do they come back in game 2?
even Mcguire doesn’t like that call and he hates the habs, and is a huge ref apologist.
Because he plays with his heart and grinds his way through the game, that’s a bad player in the JM scheme.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Hey folks,
If we have one bad game like this and they all the bad stuff over with at once.
The boys need to get the ball rolloing again in the 3rd period
Can’t blame the ref’s, the Habs are not going to the net – that would be basic hockey.
Go Habs!
we are very poor at faceoffs and over a game we lose a lot of puck time…at this stage it is not a teaching issue its a lack of talent in this area…i think there will be no pressure next game on the habs as it will be like game one…even if our top forwards match their top forwards we will get killed by their secondary vs ours….maybe you can win a cup or be an elite team with one of moen or metro…but 8 of these type up players even the most ardent hab fan has to admit no chance…beyond our top 5 forwards the rest of the forwards are interchangeable with hundreds of forwards
No conspiracy eh, Boone>>>> WTF do you call that??
he hasn’t scored a goal in God knows when. Can’t remember the last one.
Well atleast you finally admit your hatred for Price. I’ve been calling you on it for over 2 years with you denying it, but it wasn’t hard to see. Maybe you could talk to the other haters and ask them to come out of the closet like you boston doug.
Honestly it is becoming so hard to feel like the Habs are getting a fair shake from the refs.
Caveat…if Halak loses or is losing…Price the rest of the way short or long.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
LOL…I bet you’re a popular guy.

Again. Honestly. Do the Caps come back in Game 2 if they called for this pansy crap?
TSN panel is insane. Halak has let in 8 goals now on his last 28 shots. Make as many excuses as you want, but that’s unacceptable in the regular season, let alone the playoffs. He deserves to sit on the bench.
Ummmm….Pleks scored??????
Oh, I agree…no goals in a long time…but he is not floating out there anymore unlike during that slump in the regular season.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
is that a word?
That’s it – we’re screwed. This is horrific officiating – it’s basically cheating.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
it can only be a makeup call if the first one is weak.
Not sure exactly why my last comment was moderated, considering some of the trash that gets through on this site.
Poor Halak his playoff stats are taking a beating.
Agreed. Not what I meant but I realize it could be interpreted that way…
I wasn’t sure how to name it but habs loyalty wasn’t a good choice. I guess pessimism would be more accurate but as you said, there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m just optimistic kind lol.
No harm meant.
This team so desperately needs a mean SOB defenceman willing to rip an opposing players head off if they crowd our crease.

Why did Price not start this game?
i was wondering.
I hear that there is a restaurant/bar in the Toronto area where Habs fans gather to watch games.
Does this really exist? If so, where?
I move to the Toronto area last summer.
If you have this info, please reply.
Thanks
guess i heard wrong then… let’s down hang our heads eh? still a lot of hockey to play
oh wow…
the habs better keep thier mouths shut though.. or the refs feeling might get hurt

I know. It’s pathetic.
HA HA HA.
sorry guys. Im changing teams. Go Refs Go!
Halak has let up 9 goals in just over 3 periods, sure not all his fault but not making a change is worse. Did Buodreau care about Theo, no he made a decision that was best for the team.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

I agree 100%
Technically Halak has only played bad for 2 and a half periods, unfortunately over this time he’s let in 8 goals on just 28 shots. That’s unacceptable in the regular season, let alone playoffs.
This sucks, but a blow out like this might help us play better in game 4. If we win it, which we can, itll be 2-2 and back even going in to Washington, where apparently we play better than at home.
Want to feel sick. We are down 6 to 1 in the last 3 periods.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
hammers best days are behind him i think
I know you weren’t there but after the second goal in game 2 (4-2) i was screaming for halak to be pulled

great lineup jacques! may as well put maxwell in for pouliot too
Semin goes to the net. But we can’t. Go figure.
Nick Bjugstad will be our pick; a 6’3″ centre. Oh, and he’s a Minnesota HS player…

I agree that he blew it, but the incompetent D that Price had to put up with, Halak has to put up with it now….it is not worth throwing both goalies to the wolves….the team will end up with Sanford and Desjardins as their tandem next season if they switch.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Sorry ,but when the Islanders won 4 in a row,.THEY had the best record & that’s the 4 IN A ROW……..
In ’89 They ( The HABS) LOST on FORUM ICE,….that in my books doesn’t make them a great team…….
and even mentioning Steve Penney as a possible great for the Habs in your words ‘NEARLY’ getting them into a Final, doesn’t really register as a great year either.

I refuse to buy anymore Molsons beer until they ice a legitimate NHL team.
I’ve been saying that for years.
Kilgours on Bloor St. West near Bathurst. Cheers.
Fehr, Laich, Fleishman, we just can’t compete when we have Moen, Moore, Darche, Pyatt.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
The Crapitals always seem to get second and third chances, where we only get one.
The play by play guy, Joe B, is the worst in the league.
The Caps have no issue throwing Theo to the wolves…he is UFA after this season and that is a few million coming off their books and they still have Varlamov…the Habs have to preserve one or both their goalies as best they can.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Halak Failed us, Whoever here said Halak is our Number one and should stay in montreal shoudl reconsider. Halak is breaking down big time.
Oh yeah, that 2nd round pick was definitely worth it.
I think its more towards the team, on both sides of that, not the Country
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Become a Laffs fan already… for the sake of the rest of us!!! PLEASE!
We will never go far with JM as the coach.
price is going to get a shutout in game 4, i cant wait
Hey Sidhu, we all feel badly about them getting crushed tonight but I doubt many fans feel like the team is fated to lose. There have been many times that a lower-ranked team has gone far in the playoffs but logic tells us that Washington should be favored. The Habs played great in game 1 and game 2, but Washington is the better team right now.
price is looking sharp though, should have been his game
MAB is one of the worst “nhl” hockey players I have ever seen. It’s absolutely sad and pathetic a guy like this is even wearing the CH. Did he get an assist on the 5th Caps goal?, he should have, he gave it away to to them twice, pathetic!
Habs have to use the third period as a setup for the next game. They have to show some push back and gain some needed respect back from the Caps. If they don’t? OMG game four will be not pretty.
Come on guys, at least win ONE period!
The Habs players are just getting boxed out so easily. Varlamov sees all the shots and nobody can even get close to all the rebounds that pop out. Way overmatched in the physicality department. Caps are just cruising now.
Haters!!!!!!!
Along with Pouliot
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Both goalies are RFAs, they can’t just leave. I would rather play to win than play to not offend the other goalie. Price was very solid tonight, and the way he fought off Knuble when he was being interfered with is exactly what we need.
Andrew ….stop being so f**king ditsy.lol
If you think its bad now, just wait till the league gets chris lee in town for game 4.
same level of reffing as in the game…
Some “fan” you are. Why are you even on this site or bothering to watch the game?
Do something else with your time if you know we were going to lose.
Because he’s not the best goalie on this team…

Everyone from Sweden, Finland (swedish speaking), Norway, Denmark: Join the Facebook group “Montreal Canadiens Fan Club Scandinavia”!

I don’t think you completly understand
its not about preserving Ego’s its about winning a cup
if they can’t take it who really gives a $hit
I like the way you think right on
agreed
I don’t know why they didn’t spend the last 10 minutes, running Varlamov. When you are getting pounded, you might as well try and send a message.
Forsome reason Washington is allowed to go whereever they want (on top of the goalie) and wearen’t even allowed to protect our crease, but we’re not allowed anywhere near their net.
Bettman wants Ovie and Crosby to meet, and he’ll make it happen.
Not 1 goalie in the NHL would have stood up for that shot, not one.
Oh man this is getting hairy. We need to crash the net
Theo is a UFA next season and very unlikely to return to the Caps so he had nothing to lose pulling him. The goalie situation in Montreal is far different.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC_Z-EPSVaI
No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.
Pouliot sucks, sorry my friend but that just my opinion.

Pouliot sucks, HE SUCKS
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
See price grab markov

I fail to see that, when it matters, I think Price is the better goalie. Halak can win all the season games he wants, He will still get analled in the playoffs and in games that matter
I like it! I don’t know if that conforms with your Buddhist views, but yes, I like it a lot.
i will have to quit watching and miss my first game of the season
We’re missing Tom the bomb to go out and lose the fight.

POULIOT is so DUMB with the puck, does he ever look before he passes?!?!
Don’t worry, now we’ll get all the calls the Caps were getting in the dying minutes of game 2.
-Dustin-
“The good thing about drinking during games is if they lose, you’re too drunk to care during and too hungover to care after.” – J.T.
I know this is blasphemy, but Markov has been underwhelming this series — he’s -2 tonight, and his giveaway pass in game 2 was a critical mistake.
There are so many things to pick apart it’s unreal.
bb – Sorry, but Hamrlik, Spacek, Gorges and MAB failed Halak tonight.
Oh my gosh, I just realized we’re gonna lose this game. Crap. What chance do we have now?
What a fold.
Considering the Caps were 30 points and 100 goals more than us these teams are closer than I thought. A little help on defence next year and a few forwards that play with size and we’re in. 4 or 6 new players should do it. And a coach.
pouliot needs to see the view from upstairs….. only problem is there is no one to replace him
i remember vile Lyle the pile driver! ha ha ha!
A BS 10 minute that a Capitals player never would have served.

He is tonight
I do not think the goals were all his fault but the stats do not support him…Halak: 3 goals on 13 shots in over 28 min. and Price 2 goals on 23 shots in 32 minutes…
Not a good night for Halak…I would throw him in for Game #4 but you must admit, Halak is 1-5 in the last six meaningful games…

so if habs end up losing the series it seems suitable that refs are to blame for taking away our mojo during game 2. Game 2 would be the turning point and an entire series will be finished with refs to blame. this series should be 2-0 canadiens before this game started. Typical bullshit. I don’t know how someone can enjoy nhl playoffs if refs determine who wins what series.
O’Byrne starts game 4, no doubt.
They are not going to change just because it is the playoffs.
mab needs to join sk74
You have seen the light
And to think Boston has the 2nd pick…..
In Guy Boucher I trust.
You people make me laugh. How did Price look so much better than Halak this game. If Price was in nets the whole game, It’s 100% we still would have lost. You guys are missing the problem. The team is no good, especially for playoff style hockey. I’ve been telling people all year.
Just please run the goaltender or something. Man we need Rocket Richard.
You fail as a hockey fan of this franchise and even more as a knowledgeable one. Halak had absolutely no support on any of those goals as did Price.
This loss is a team effort. If you think Price, Roy or Dryden would have won this game you are delusional.
Pouliot looks lost when he gets the puck, he’s really slowing down the other two today. Maybe try SK there next game, even though I know theres no chance of that happening.
conspiracy theory #289
Yes they did lose the game by themselves, but the refs made sure it stayed that way. Bunch of very soft calls towards us. Didn’t watch the third period until there was about 5 min left just to watch 2 other bulls*** calls on us again.
Funny when we where up by three 2 nights ago, how the refs tried helping Caps come back. i thought I was paranoid in the beggining of the season with the calls, but they make it so easy to see there is something against some teams
admire what you have done here.
why did it take so long to see Price?
He should have started this gaem, esp after the way Halak played game 2.
And I like Halak, but I like winning more
A makeup call nonetheless since they weren’t “supposed” to call interference on the Caps.
Down 3-Zip and no sign of the Great APE!
This is a familiar scene frustrated in the first then give up bad goals and get hammered!
“The three stars as selected by Red Fisher of the Montreal Star:
1st star: Henri Richard
2nd Star: Doug Harvey
3rd Star: Jacques Plante
Final score Detroit Red Wings 5 Montreal Canadiens 3″
That doesn’t mean Halak didnt let in 5+ goals in like 10+ games he played
Why are we not cashing rebounds??? Varly gives such fat juicy ones!
I prefer having a team that’s the favourite that goes all the way, because they have more opportunities to go all the way thea the underdog.
i really expected a bit more out of him.
like they like to say back in the good ol’ USSR: nam pizdetz

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Is Pouliot under the impression that this is a no body-checking league? Come on dude use your size!
So what are you saying, play Halak, OK and if he sucks what then.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
I don’t like seeing my team fail, but that substitution should have happend 5 goals ago (in game 2)
———–
”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
The fact that halak got pulled does not surprise me, what was shocking was that PRICE got cheered when he was put in, and you know win or loss Price will talk to the media
———–
”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
Yeah, but he’s also -3…
Actually they both can leave…Halak can turn down the arbitration result and Price can refuse to sign the qualifying offer.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
If people think that Halak had much of a chance tonight then you are clearly being emotional and are really not using better judgement.

That’s what I was thinking haha.
the issue i have is that JM is that he is way to calm for such an intense sport.
sometimes that’s good and helps the team be focused.
but when your team is constantly abused, and you don’t stick up for them, well then why would hte players want to play for you.
also his whole grudge thing is riduclous…
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
Because he was quite lousy most of the year.
That makes them a pretty darn good team in my books.
couldnt agree more
price looks so bitter he hasnt played in a long time
Whatever – I’ll be his biggest fan if he plays well. He hasn’t and was anointed prematurely. I don’t think we’ll be in great shape with him back there, but like I said, I hope he proves me wrong.
I’m glad that you remember everything I’ve written. I haven’t a clue who you are.

is a cool screen idea ! It is very interesting indeed.Thank you for your
info.i love to read all info.
JM is playing again only 3 lines. Darche played only 1.49 min. The other
lines are not fresh. We always lose when playing 3 lines. JM will never
learn.
Yes.
Price has stopped 17 of 18 shots. Not bad considering he’s playing after a loooong time.
Carey in game 4? If he has a weak game then I am all in for Halak in game 5.
It’s not bashing to point out the facts. 8 goals on 28 shots. That’s not acceptable.
If this ends the nonsence about trading Price, it is worth it for the greater good. This team has too few Canadians as it is with out trading our Canadian gold medal hero. It would be like the Hawks looking to deal Toews because they favor Kane.
Halak didnt help himself any either, Last game is still in his head, how he choked
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
I think it’s becaus he’s smaller that the Washington players…
In Guy Boucher I trust.
You sort of understand…however, it is not all about just protecting Price…it is protecting Halak as well…two bad games and then toss him to the side? I do not think that it is a good idea…like you said, he gets Game #4 to show confidence in him but a short leash.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
The difference between a playoff goalie and a nhl goalie is the way they keep their team in the game at situations like this. 3 goals on 13 shots doesn’t cut it.
Jacques Martin — Just the right amount of blandness to make your listless team go from bad to worse. And those ties…
not against WAS
not the first time varlamov has stoned the habs
this is sad
I feel sorry for Halak and Price equally. Not their fault. The goalie gets a great team in front of him for 20 minutes then the Caps turn up the heat and the Habs choke in the second. But the key I think has been the poor officiating in general and the non-calls on goalie interference among other missed calls on the Caps. Criminal. I can understand it’s playoff hockey and the refs usually let the little ones go but this is absurd. The Habs penalties have been deserved but where are the Caps calls?
Where did the 1st period Habs go?
Oh and our leading SOG? Laps with 4. WTF?
It is what it is, Markov is another no show tonight, and your right, Brutal play in game 2
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Based on how both goalies played today, I don’t think we can win with Halak. He wasn’t battling today, he had zero fight in him.
Getting our butts kicked. I want to hurt Craig Laughlin
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
Stephen, facts are facts, Halak is not Patrick Roy, and he’s been atrocious.
When you point it out on every post that you write, it is bashing.
Just reading the post quickly and I can see you have written it on at least 3 straight posts. It is called bashing.
Attaboy Price – be a wall and give your team a chance!
And the “Best” goalie threw 4 very big games in his last 5 before tonight even started. Where’s the Clutch play he’s apparently so renowned for?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Hey, he was not good enough in game 2, true. I was disappointed, because if he was better the team wins that game. Now the Caps woke up, and it’s game over. I don’t blame him for this game. The team was losing this game the whole time, no matter wahat happened. If Price plays, I wouldn’t be up in arms. I guarantee they still lose, so It doesn’t matter anyways.
Next game take your chances on the PP and get MAB to the press box, dress OB. Shit MAB can’t even piggy back right. Horrable passive smurf.
In order for anyone on the Habs to run Ovie, we’d need a coach like Tortorella or Crawford. JM will never tell a player to go and take out another.
Maybe we can get Laraque to run over Varly??
Why do we suck at home

EUROPEANS DON’t FIGHT
PLus im a minority hahahahaha
———– ”Playing goal is like being shot at.” – Jacques Plante
Halak can’t turn down the arbitration reward if the Habs match it. It’s actually illegal. The only way either of them can leave if the Habs offer them contracts is if they sign in Europe.
Game over
This would be so much funnier if we weren’t losing 4-0.
If only this team didn’t piss away points that last week of the season.
- I Hab Faith
he also looks so bigger.
They’re winning 4-1 and they still have a forward playing up high near the red line when they breakout…
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
Ok, let Halak play the rest of the games. He will let in 5 goals in each of them, he is rattled. Time for Price to shine. get over it…
Notsomuch….
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Boy when it rains, it pours.
Agreed.
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
Saying Price would lose 100% is just pure guessing…besides, Price had better stats than Halak this game…Halak: 3 goals in 13 shots in over 28 minutes and Price 2 goals on 23 shots in under 32 minutes…
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
This series was all over in game two when they blew a 4-1 lead. They will not win another game.

F this team… giving up the way they did. I’m not watching this crap.
Agree. It shouldn’t have come to this. He could have called a TO when they were down a couple of goals and settled them down.
Darche, Hamrlik sit, OB and SK in for Game 4, Price starts.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Wow is that all you could come up with ,.well your a regular genius arne’t you………….hahahahhaha
It’s over. change of jersey be right back
Will not change anything… It’s Ovie-Crosby all the way… Anyway…
Man… TSN is a f’in joke! I think they are all little Caps puck bunnies… Drooling over Boudreau and his fluffies… Done watching this for tonight…
Anyone tell me how TSN got this series and CBC got Boston-Buffalo??? Not that I want to listen to Craig Simpson or Greg Millen… but Gord & Pierre and the so-called expert panel is painful!!
Lapierre’s penalty was tame compared to the shit they didn’t call against Washington.
Oy, oy, oy..
agreed, so the players start sticking up for themselves and voicing their frustration to the refs, as you said our coach doesnt react, this is hockey not the opera!
Lapierre should test the new head shot rule?
When we’re talking about who should start the next game, using evidence to support your argument is logical, it’s not bashing. Saying Halak sucks would be bashing. I’m not saying that, I’m saying he’s not playing well enough to deserve another game.
Hall Gill By Far The Best D on tonight…if hall gill is the best …thats saying something about our D..COMON GUYS PLAY LIKE IT MEANS SOMETHING TO YOU!
TSN consensus says Halak wednesday. I would go with Price, no hesitation, I don’t blame Halak for any of the goals but you have to try and change momentum somehow. Price has a good lifetime record against Ovy and theres no reason to believe he’ll play poorly. Its really about changing things up and trying to get the team going, because no goalie will win game 4 if we play like we did the 2nd today.
mike green sucks
I believe too Harani………!
Deep in the net and down early. Yup, there’s Price.
Sadly the real Habs have shown up…….
Didn’t stand a chance on that. Game over ((
No, unfortunatly there is no way of ever knowing what would have happened if Price started or if Roy was our goalie, and so and so forth.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
If we had a smart coach

What age is too old for a grown man to cry?
So gents (and ladies)… would you like some cheese with your whine?
We’re getting beaten. Badly. Shit happens sometimes. The good news is that we’re still in this series.
Keep the faith!!
P.S. Price for Game #4
You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku
He might still be injured. He should have rested during the Olympics….but he played
In Guy Boucher I trust.
Perfect shot by OV. Absolute snipe.
So who do we see in nets Wednesday?
It said 3-1 on RDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THUD!!! and the Habs come crashing back to earth…and reality. Washington has woken up. Too small, too soft, and a pop gun offense. Bring on the tee times.
Price has 5 wins in 15 playoff games. Hardly inspiring.
this is total BS. can’t believe this shit.
God I hope so!
Caps announcer:
“anytime you score a shorthanded goal in the playoffs, more often than not you’re going to get the W”

i’m ducking out of this joint before it gets ugly. . .
I wonder where your from….
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
82 games of mediocrity, during the regular season and people are STILL blaming the refs. GET OVER IT!!
I actually thought the Habs would make a series of this but, if Halak’s gonna crap the bed every night, from game two on out, then this should be over soon. Unless, of course, Carey Price……….awe screw it.
This “defensive team”, as Pierre Macguire put it the other night, aren’t very good…..especially on defense.
mmmmmm pasta….
In Guy Boucher I trust.
What could he have done with the first one. The second he was screened and the third the defence left him high and dry. But you probably know better.
yep
Ladies and Gentlemen, what you’re seeing out there is a little something called REBOUND CONTROL!!!
-GK-
Like I said, Halak was not good enough in game 2.
Yes, here are the goofs that will start blaming Price for this game now.
I was thinking the same thing…
carey carey carey
should have been in net tonight
Once they moderated one of my posts, don’t know why..won’t repeat cuz they might moderate this one, but I’ll give you a hint. It’s from a seinfeild episode where they line was “Not that there is anything wrong with that”. With some of the c*** i read hear I was really surprised they took that out. Been afraid to post here since that. LOL
two weeks after last game minus a day for each goal scored against us this series
so… last week

I was disappointed in him in Game #2 as well…but I thought the team would be able to save his butt for once in OT…
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
He’s gotta stop those? He shoulda had that one? That was stoppable? He was screened? That was goalie interference? Take your choice.
Well, we are where we are “supposed” to be – Caps with 2 wins, and Habs with 1.
Habs need to direct their energy and frustration into a strong start on Wednesday.
We haven’t run their goalies in the way they’ve run ours, we haven’t targeted Green physically like the way they’ve targeted MAB.
why does mab play half the game?
Dave – Hal Gill, our version of Allan Stanley, is our best player tonight. That’s not a knock against him, but rather an evaluation of how the rest of the Dmen are playing. It’s not the refs, it’s us. We’re still a team that can’t handle the physical aspect of playoff hockey.
just a thought..
i love metro the guy is a great palyer, but he is coming back from a serious shoulder injury way earlier then expected.
he hasn’t practice with the team either.
so his ice time gets limited and is not very effective…
so why on earth sit SK74 who has been playing well, for him.
once again nothing against metro, but this decision is stupid. JM seems to be really stubborn and holds a grudge like a woman (no offesnse ladies)
——————
“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
your watching the habs play…its okay to cry at any time
and making the playoffs by 1 F%#$^ing point is somrthing to be proud of?
for what? this S@#$%&^*(t.
If they don’t score 1 before the end of this period…..say g’night
On the bright side, the Caps are just reclaiming the home ice that we “stole” from them in game 1.
2-1 Caps is where it’s supposed to be in the series.
The rest of our character will be this third period and game 4. We better not come out flat this last 20.
WHY IS MAB EVEN ON THE ICE??? IS HE MARTIN’S SON IN LAW???
There you go, Priceberg! (only for you!)
For everyone else…the team looks like thay have given up. Poor Carey, or any Habs goalie now, because there is no effort on D.
JM, where’s the god-damned time-out?

Don’t argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.
if marc andre bergeron plays 1 more game for the montreal canadiens jacques martin confirms that he is not watching the same thing we are
Oh ya, it’s a real stretch. The team scored 1 and Price let in 2 in half a game as it was. How do we win if he plays a full game? Price had better stats this game. So f#$%ing what! He was on pace to let in 4. it’s so irrelevant it’s not even funny. This team has no chance….put in who you would like. I don’t care.
would love to read more from you on this
Totally agree, not his fault at all
1st goal, pushed into net by Spatch
2nd goal, never even saw the puck there was so much traffic
3rd goal, hung out to dry
Now poor Pricey has to put up with it…
Markov taking less risks because MAB is his partner. Plekanec still loses too many faceoffs cleanly.
Well now I know what it feels like too be shot thru the hart with a golfball, lol
I just realized that this may have been the last time we see Jaroslav Halak in goal for the Montreal Canadiens.
CAN WE END THE GOD DAMN BERGERON EXPERIMENT!??!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

Sure this is a tough one to swallow and many of the performances were sub-par but we musn’t feel sorry for ourselves. Time to pick it up and continue supporting, and our boys will put in the effort. We’ll have all summer to shit on eachother and the players who we believe are at fault, but now, for right now it’s time to rally together.
You are a joke.
well that was embarassing Bergeron, its safe to say you wont be playing next game, PP presence or not
Well, Habs are on a wing and a prayer at this point
Goalies in Montreal have two roles, netminder and scapegoat.
Thank God MAB will not be on this team next year

Alright…I am over my disappointment…I still believe the Habs have a chance because the Caps have not won four games yet…the Habs WILL come out better prepared to NOT just watch the puck in the defensive zone…
The Habs have played nine periods of hockey and have been impressive in FIVE of those periods…this was a meaningful game, ie. first home playoff game of the season and they always wet the bed in a meaningful home game. They will be much better in Game #4.
The series is not over yet. GO HABS GO
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Halak gives the caps fire, Price has to eat his shit now
Nothing against Halak at all, but I’d like to see Price start the next game.
Wow – this D is brutal you can put Patrick Roy or Ken Dryden in nets and they’ll lose as well.
I think we’re all saddened and discouraged, but honestly I’m not near as pissed about this game as I was about the last one.
They need to lay some HURT on Varlamov.
This is so sick. I am not, not getting upset over this.
MAB getting suckier on D as we go, why isn’t OB given a chance?
I saw the comment. It was directed at Clay I think and was just a personal attack, basically. It was more about that than any other point, so it was deleted. When Boone stepped in a few months ago he said that personal attacks without hockey content might be deleted. At the risk of being deleted, I’m not trying to be personal but you have tendency to get personal, whether with foul language or just in a somewhat patronizing way.
That’s the way I see it, anyways. . . for however long this post may or may not exist.
hahah guys are blaming price..thats hilarious. Guys who blame price= dont know hockey
i hope our defense is upgraded in the summer. needs to get faster, uglier and younger if possible. alot of goals being scored down low we cannot match the caps is this area.
Good job clearing the rebounds boys.
Not debating who to put in….just countering your claim that Price did not perform well.
For the record, I believe Halak gets Game #4 but on a short leash.
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Yea, thats good, Halak wasnt much better, Take out your frustration on someone else,
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
I’d start Price, SK74, O’Byrne and sit Metro and Darche or Lapierre.
He has to stop those. That was stoppable. He was screened. The D let him down again. Take your pick. Whatever.
Think it’s safe to say that Sergei Kostitsyn would be more useful than Darche or Metropolit has been.
Boo!
Just like Halak didn’t stand a chance?
This ain’t over.
Yeah, some rebound control on that last goal, wasn’t it?

Nice of him to come in though and take the L on his record rather than have Allan Walsh have to defend it when he Twitters his contract demands for Halak.

Wonder what Gomes yelled at the refs when he got his miscontuct, but i bet it went something like this ” Why don’t you f&*% heads do your job ad call the right calls”
Lets Go Boys!
GO HABS GO!
Let Washington get this one game out of their system. They’ll get all cocky and start playing stupid hockey again.
holy fuck mab 2 giveaways in 4 seconds and they score.
JM’s making it much easier for there to be reasons for Boucher to have his job next year.

WOW! it’s still here.
All because of Saturday night.
Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.
top 5 pick sounds pretty good right about now, what i would do for gudbranson……
PG needs to blow this team up and bring in a ton of new guys who will bring a new face to this team. Yup, that oughta do it.

Disagree.
carey left out high and dry on that one
Get OB back in next game. At least he will hurt guy’s.
Wasn’t me, but I’ll question you right now. Halak deserved the start tonight, and NONE of the three goals (nor the one on Price) were even remotely the fault of the goalie(s).

Line-up for next game:
Cammalleri-Gomez-Gionta, SK74-Plek-AK46, Pouliot-Moore-Moen, MAB-Lapierre-Pyatt
Markov-OB, Hamrlik-Spacek, Gorges-Gill
Price
Safe to say that having one big defencemen who can CRUNCH a player wouldn’t be a bad idea.

No no just stay a bit, it’ll get a lot better. We are capable of the best and the worse…..
In Guy Boucher I trust.
and Moen???
why not park your fat as sin front of the net.. or actually punish people physcially

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
haha seriously..
then again 1993 is the year Buttman joined the league… behold no canadian team has had any success.
the mighty lightning win the cup and dissapear into the cellar.
the unstopable Canes win the cup and dissapear into the cellar.
the dynasty ducks win the cup and slowly disapear into the cellar.

Four goals and I really couldn’t blame the goalie on any of them. Not loving MAB though. Main thing though is just the skill mismatch between the Caps and Habs.

You’re the minority in this fight so you might want to shut it
more people like/prefer price over halak.

This ain’t over…
LET’S DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll tell ya one thing I noticed: it was nice to see a goalie in there who’s body-language didn’t translate into “I’m SCARED SH*TLESS!”
Nah. He was terrible all year long. I wouldn’t blame him for this game. When he starts next game and we get blown out again, I’ll still blame the real culprit. BG and the terrible team he put together. Good riddance.
