Liveblog: Boston 6 – Canadiens 3

Well, that was fugly.

And after battling back to an unlikely 3-3 tie, the home team conceded three unanswered goals in the third period.

The Canadiens went more than 12 minutes before registering their first shot of the game.

The Canadiend dressed four NHL defencemen – five if you count Jarred Tinordi – but the Bruins had a 40-30 shot advantage and kept the puck buzzing around Carey Price, who stopped 19 of 22 shots, and Robert Mayer, who was beaten three times on 18 shots.

The Canadiens outhit the Bruins 38-22, and Douglas Murray blocked six shots.

Jarome Iginla scored twice and had six SoG. No Canadien had more than two shots.

The Bruins scored on four of six power plays. The Canadiens were 2-for-7, including P.K. Subban’s laser during a 5-on-3.

The Canadiens will announce player cuts after the game.

Shout-out to an excellent broadcaster and a good man: Ted Bird.

My New Brunswick homeboy got the sack at TSN 690, where few of the surviving on-air “talent” are fit to shine the Birdman’s shoes.

Ted is too good to be out of action for long.

6.5 mill per season for Price = epic failure !

What kind of vet is gonna go all out during pre-season?

That’s what the rookies need to do.

I, for one, would hate to see one of our regulars go down with injury before the season even starts…

  4. crabvader says:

You would think that this WASN’T pre-season, you guys that are freaking out should take something to help you relax.

    This can’t be healthy…

Highly unlikely that Michel Therrien will be fired during the pre-season.

  8. durocher says:

Not a good period at all. Tinordi looked good, though.

Story of being a Habs fan:

    1. Bruins get lucky with a high stick penalty that was totally undeserved.
    2. Bruins score on a weak-looking shot on Price.
    3. Habs fans go into meltdown.

  12. Clay says:

    Weak goal…
On a brighter note, it’s great to watch the games live on a 60in HD TV instead of streaming them over a very slow connection in China.

They may want to rethink video review for high sticks. These refs need to be saved from themselves.

    New season, same ol’ Carey.

Horrible call (yes, it’s only pre-season). Not a good period for Hudon.

  20. J.T. says:

Well, well. Mike Boone, like the Mary Ellen Carter, rises again. Nice to see you back at it, my friend. I look forward to your brilliant efforts to talk us off the ledge when it really matters.

Watching the game in the car on my iPhone … we live in an age of wonders.

Amazing pic of that Florida/Nashville game. Looks like a rural gents league somewhere on a Canadian coast. (Actually, the gents would have more fans.)

  24. habtastic74 says:

So did we ditch the goal song, or is it not used until the regular season?

  39. commandant says:

On Kaleta, does anyone have an explanation for what the team was supposed to do.

It was 4 on 4 hockey at the time…. Galchenyuk was on the ice with Gallagher. Even if healthy does a Parros go out on the ice for that shift? Tarnasky who is here for preseason shenanigans?

Later Prust goes out against Kaleta to challenge him. Kaleta being the little P.O.S. that he is, dives before the puck can even be dropped to avoid the fight, he doesn’t play another shift.

What is Therrien supposed to do to “protect his skill guys” in this situation, given the rules on sending a player off the bench to fight (10 game suspension).

Its nice and all to say we need to protect our skill, but can you explain how, in this situation, you deal with a dbag like Kaleta?

Hard to beat the Subban vs. Subban main card, but tonight’s undercard isn’t bad either. I want all the Timmins bashers to take a long look at Boston’s Tommy Cross tonight. He’s the Fischer to Subban’s Giroux, picked 8 spots ahead of P.K.

  43. HabFab says:

Mike is back so the world can now unfold as it should. Welcome back to the Headmaster as Steve would say.

Does anyone know if this game will be on TSN Montreal? I don’t have TSN2, but I have TSN Montreal. If not, it looks like it’ll be RDS synced with TSN690 audio streamed from the computer

    Welcome back Mike!

  51. habsfan0 says:

Though it’s only an exhibition game,Subban vs Subban might be more interesting than Bengals vs Steelers.

  52. secretdragonfly says:

Welcome back, Mr. Boone; your insights and observations (esp. ALN) have been sorely missed lo these past few months.

Just an observation of my own – does anyone else feel nauseous seeing PK’s brother in a Bruins jersey?

Does anyone know if the Budweiser Red Goal lights work during pre-season games or just regular season.
Got one for my birthday and just set it up yesterday but it didn’t go off with each goal. ..but still cool to hit the test button when habs score…get the light flashing and siren howling.
    Go Habs Go.

  56. PeterD says:

Really liked Reway last night…speed, skill and slick…will se him in the line up in 2 years…but needs to add some muscle mass so he can take the type of beating Gally11 takes.

    • johnnylarue says:

He plays a different game to Gally’s–not a crease crasher by any means–but yes, you can tell Reway’s still a few years away from having his “grown up” body. Kid’s got moves, though. No denying that.

  57. scavanau says:

Forgive me if its been mentioned already, NHL net is showing 24CH now and repeating later tonight. This is my 1st chance to see what you’ve all been talking about…

  58. B says:

“this one starts at 7 p.m., to accommodate TSN.”

I looked to see what important broadcast follows the game on TSN2 tonight, it’s “Robot Combat League”. They have that as a higher priority and pushing back the Habs?

missed you ol’ buddy! welcome back. hope you are in better shape than Francois Gagnon was yesterday

  61. sreuel says:

So where was the blog from yesterday game. Can watch game on TSN tonight

    • Mike Boone says:

The blog is a complement to, rather than a substitute for, TV coverage. I’m going to do three preseasons: tonight, Saturday against Carolina and next week’s visit to Ottawa. Then business as usual when the season begins.

How nice to see Boone and his comments back.

Eller, Galchenyuk, and Gallagher are fun to watch but too much skill not enough sand on one line.

    Welcome back, LiveBoone!

    • Luke says:

I agree with your Clapton/Floyd post from the last thread.

Your Floyd portion does a better job of describing my opionion than I did.

But I was also trying to get that comment counter to 300…

      • johnnylarue says:

I was also pretty sad to see that thread die just 8 posts shy of numerical validation.

Little Question. I have read a bruins website saying the Habs and Bruins will go at it again on tuesday, but i dont see that in our schedule, on canadiens website. And i see the bruins playing the capitals on Tuesday. Did I miss something?

  70. DipsyDoodler says:

Subban and Boone returning to action on the same day.

  71. Eddie says:

Subbans are a great hockey family; their parents must be off the charts proud.

    Welcome back, Boone.

If Bournival is to become a solid 3rd liner, he’s going to have to light it up in Hamilton. This team depends on 3 lines of balanced scoring and Bournival has never been a great offensive player. Maybe he can be a 4th line center and a penalty kill specialist.

  72. PeterD says:

Thank you RDS for running the pre-season games.
