Why not? It’s only 2008.
Trailing 3-1 against Martin Brodeur in New Jersey, the Canadiens outshoot the Devils20-3 and get third period goals from Bryan Smolinski (his second of the game), Saku Koivu and – finally – Christopher Higgins to win their 17th – and sweetest – road game of the season.
Incredible.
But true.
Shots on the game: 32-13
In New Jersey.
Against a team that isn’t the Boston Bruins.
What a way to head into the All-Star break.
And what a way to catapult themselves into the Dash for the Cash.

If the Habs were at the bottom of the conference, then I’d agree but, they’re right, smack dab, in the thick of things AND, with parity making everybody look equal,(save for the elite teams), the Habs have just as much a shot as the other teams fighting for playoff positioning. Kovalev is hot, as are his linemates and the D has been solid all year.
Ian,
You could probably get Center Ice for cheap, right now, seeing that the season is more than half over. Don’t take my word for it though, because I don’t have Center Ice and don’t know what kind of pricing they offer.
wow, hate to be around you when things go really bad. habs are a good young team. kovy, why on earth would you get rid of him?
We won’t go past 2nd or 3rd round this year and next. But as they develop after that we are in for a great ride. No trade, patients
My friend just called, i’m out of here to watch it on rds. Post more when i get back. ENJOY IAN
i think we are only one player, someone who can carry the koivu line cause saku isn’t doing it and his linemates are not doing much either.
I don’t know about you Mr. Wonderful, but I enjoy cheering for a team that has a lot of young talent, excellent goaltending and great veterans.
Sorry, I don’t think I am ready to give up on the Habs because they are down by 1 after 1 and get rid of the heart and soul of the team.
no way we should trade those two K’s. We are a team moving up, we already have young talent. We are not in 12 or 13th. We will go to the playoffs and get some experince. Be patient, we will make a run this year and the years to come.
i don’t agree with you, i think we’re one or 2 players away from being contenders.
I’m on cable here, so most nights i go to my friends who has rds.
its great for hab fans that dont live in the Q, its my first yer wit it.
Time to face the facts. The Habs are a middle of the road team. They do have some good young talent and more on the way but we must ask ourselves are we better off finishing anywhere from 4th-8th and getting bounced in the first or second round or trade some vetern assets like Koivu and Kovelev and get some more young talent. I vote for the later.
A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.
Sir Winston Churchill
yeh it was passed in front of the net, close to being a goal, but luckly it wasnt.
I don’t get centre ice, maybe i should
I read Huet gave it up again, handeling it out of his net?
also listenin on CJAD, but watchin on Centre ice……I dont remeber which poster told me to do this. but thanks! I hate american anouncers
how do u live without rds?
Yeah, soft call on SKOSt for a tripping penalty. On the PK Begin should have gotten the puck out and did not, they scored right after that.
We’re showing good effort though.
Ah, ok, I do remember that
Cjad and you guys for me tonight, no rds, my friend is away, so post well so i can follow. What is it 1, zip for the bad guys ?? Just got in.
is there any sports psycologists on here that can shed some light on the devils dominance of us for so long? It’s driving me insane.
We just have such horrible luck against the Devils, and they almost score on a mis-direction.
I wrote that before they scored, at least from my internet-delayed perspective. I was referring to a play just before where Huet mishandled a puck.
Huet doesn’t look good.
Same old Habs. Can’t beat teams that check hard. Just bet the Devils to beat the Habs everytime and you will retire a millionaire.
A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.
Sir Winston Churchill
That announcer needs some Halls.
He had all the time in the world to get the puck out and he failed miserably
That was Begin’s fault, NOBODY else’s
Ugh, I’m in such an ugly mood right now. I shouldn’t even watch this game for fear of ruining my day further.
Bloody Cristobal, stay in your bleedin bloody net.
Begins’s fault. No one in front of him and he just gave it away.
Uhhg and as usual a terrible penalty call = a goal against us.
We never seem to recover from these for whatever reason, that might be game already.
Elias who has sucked all year kills us yet again.
Well, nobody can argue that Begin is to blame on that goal.
How about they only call those weak tripping penalties if its clear that the team who committed the infraction is actually going to profit from it.
Pointless penalty call.
Pitiful dive.
Hmm, feels like both teams are being cautious, first goal is going to be extra important tonight.
Chorske, master of trite hockey truisms
I don’t want to jinx us, but it looks like it’s going to be a solid team effort tonight.
oooh, two lines are in the game at least
EVERYTHING he does is solid.
Packed house in NJ!!!
That was a nice kickup on that pass eh!
Commercials Boone, they need to make money I guess. Ridiculous.
You know, I haven’t heard anyone say this lately…But I love Hamrlik!
Both Brisebois and Dandy should cast their minds back to their respective Cup runs, and remember that oft forgotten supporting cast referred to as the Black Aces. Surely Brisebois hasn’t forgotten the likes of Todd Ewen, Donald Dufresne, and Mario Roberge in 1993. Guys who kept quiet, worked hard in practice, and who were ready to step in for the team when needed.
Well, Lappy says they need traffic in front of the net. Let’s see if they do it.
“bupkes” is a great word.
BOTH UNDER CROSSBAR AND SHOULDER IT’S A GOAL
YES!!!!!!
Thanks Toronto!!!
GoHabsGo!!!
I’m scared, someone hold my hand,.
Chico Resch, mathematically speaking, is a dick!!!
Finally!!! Go Habs go!
God exists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CAPTAIN K!
Wow. We never get those calls.
Unreal. Hang on boys, dont $%^% it up!!
Yes! Thank you Toronto!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssss
AND IT STANDS!!
KOIVU!!! Captain Clutch..wow, amazing. What else can you say?
Martin F. Brodeur…eat your heart out
Slamming a bench door,
SMILING AFTER A GOAL
TAKE THAT SAKU HATERS.
3-3 I don’t F*&*^ING believe. Thank you Saku!!
sure
Penalty!!!
GoHabsGo!!!
LOL
Brutal call.
What are these moronic refs doing?!?
They have to even it up I guess
GoHabsGo!!!
OLE
Sigh.
Thats not going to count. Even tho its totally a goal.
oh god. the play is under review. oh my.
it was called a goal on the ice. . . no indisputable evidence. has to be a goal.
That’s in…
$10 says they say no-go.
Anyone takers?
THIS WILL GET CALLED BACK!
GoHabsGo!!!
That is a goal!!!!!
Oh oh…./cries
That is close but it is a goal
“Hello Toronto, can you look at that play?”
“Sure no problem, oh wait it’s the Habs? NO GOAL.”
haha, just figured i would just in case.
Any word from dandy today?
Gionta looked like a Yugo getting run over by a Mack truck. It was the best hit of the game, and the symbolic exclamation point on one hell of a third period!

Tom The Bomb – Drafted in the 7th round, 204th overall. Has had to scratch and claw every year in the NHL to make the starting lineup. Has very limited ability and isn’t a goal scorer but makes up for it in so many little ways. Isn’t afraid to go into the corners and never backs down from a fight even though he knows he won’t win many bouts. Plays all three forward positions if asked to, kills penalties, and never complains when he has to sit out a game. Will do anything to help his team win and never leaves anything in the room. The consummate team player who leads by example. Any questions?
The Original 24 Cups
None.
Well said.
Amen. He has stepped up to the character role nicely, and he has an impact that extends WAY beyond the ice time he is given. Just had a quick look at his stats and he is at or near the bottom of the list in terms of shifts per game and ice time per game. Heck, he gets less ice time than Dandy. But for all that he is in the mix every time he plays, he’s got 9 points and at an OK -2, and he stands up and fights for his teammates. As far as I’m concerned he’s a bargain and we’re lucky to have him.
The guys on 110% are all bluster and hysteria. Haven’t watched the show in months.
Thoughts:
…awright, Marty, you can go take care of that “family business” now.
…looks like Gainey was not brain-dead when he signed Smolinski. I wonder if he spoke up in the dressing room before the third period.
…fourth line fore-checking was brilliant all through the last two periods; wore ‘em down.
…Kovalev and Markov, Hamrlik and Komisarek; dammit, everyone going all out!
…busting up back-to-back 5 on 3′s and coming back with 3 unanswered third period goals against an arch-enemy without a shutout marks the first time the franchise did that since Saint Patrick was between the pipes. Was Sergei Kostitsyn even out of diapers yet? This is the type of game that breaks down the mental barriers for a whole team. This is the type of game that should shut up the Bell Centre idiots who were booing Ryder’s errant pass in the third period Tuesday. It won’t but it should.
Bravo guys, bravo!!
it is
Captain K, I love him!
Sorry Duplicate
Hi Ian,
It’s coming together mate and to be honest, i’m not too worried about the home games, all in good time.
Just a wee tip Ian, use your reply button to my post’s (or anyone else’s)when you want to make a comment to them, it just makes things less confusing, this site has grown a lot.
Have a good evening & weekend,
Moey
was this not our first win when losing after 2 periods this season?
Others are starting to belive now MOEY ! Just like the tortus and the hare, slow and sure and a real team leaves no one behind.
Keep raising the bar folks. We have yet to see all the talent on this team show up at the same time. And, when it does, it will truely be a thing of beauty to watch.
P.S. Aside from the obvious, I’m really happy we won because the Devils were just boring the living piss out of me tonight.
It’s just like that toothpaste on your forehead Moey, Its there for the long haul !
Good post Yeats. Imagine the horsepower this team could deliver when firing on all cylinders in one game! I said it before, playoffs are going to be very exciting this year for HABS fans…
P.S. – Playoff Price
I got it now ! And savor this flavor.
I am glad you have seen the light..
Brian– Were starting to have a little fun now buddy !
don’t forget halak
He probably will. I suggest however that he should stand behind the bench instead and give advice and guidance there.
I will probably change my pic when we’re in the playoffs, same horse but he’s racing towards the finish line. For now he’ll have another comforable night in the stable.
The guy for sure has two left feet, but you can’t BEAT his heart !
I would never forget Huet, I one of his biggest fans. He iS FANTASTIC!!!! ( everyone knows I am a HUET fan
)
I just have this feeling that Price for some reason will come in during playoffs and really help us out.
?
It was.
ICING ON THE CAKE
From the report on tsn.ca:
After the game was over, the Devils did not return to their locker room within the 10-minute cooling off period mandated by the NHL. It was reported that the team headed to a post-game workout in the auxiliary practice rink.
Sutter, he no happy I think – LOL
“I hope he finishes his career as a Canadien, not like Lafleur when he went to the Rangers. It taints them.”
My Dad said that after his interview on RDS. I agree with him, I hope I never have to see a day where he is wearing a different teams uniform.
He deserves to win it and see #11 raised to the rafters when he is old.
I might be wrong, but didn’t 2 of the Devil’s 3 shots in the 3rd come on one shorthanded occasion?

I’m totally in agreement with you.
Here’s the photo of Komisaurus Rex swatting Gionta the Gnat

Ya kinda sucks, they’re playing their most spirited hockey in a while and it’s going to be interrupted by the “all-star” game.
no ur right.
sweet pic!
Just watched the game via my DVR. What a third period! Unreal twenty minutes by our boys. Old men river (Smoke and Koivu) had clutch goals. Kovy played like a man possessed. What a hit by Komi to seal the game against little Gionta. It seems Komi knows that, unless your name is Ovechkin or Crosby, it’s not worth it for him to be in the penalty box. Another solid outing by the Kostitsyn boys, especially the elder. We showed a lot of character in coming back from two 5-on-3s to totally dominate one of the best teams in the league on their own ice.
Only player I have an issue with is Begin, who failed to clear the zone on a Devils goal and took an unnecessary penalty leading to a 5-on-3. I still think he should be in the line-up: Smoke, Begin, and Kosto are playing well a as a unit.
We may be one trade deadline move from making a real run this season.
Go Habs Go! Take that Marty F. Brodeur!
I believe it’s 14-3-3
+6 (+2 today, +4 against Boston)
FYI – highlights of the game from TSN:
http://broadband.tsn.ca/tsn/?id=349&vid=28057
heres to the toronto sports network that said we would end the season in 13th
why am i up? i have school really early tomorrow:(
What beautiful beautiful beautiful game.
Remmber this folks … and cherish this. Because this is the beginning of a very long very good run for the habbys.
The future has arrived and it’s only getting better for the next few YEARS!!
years.
think about that…
=========================================================================
I got 40 to 1 odds they’d make it to the cup final at the beginning of the season. WHO’S LAUGHING NOW??? KO HABS KO!!
Here’s some FFs (fun facts)
The Canadiens have the 2nd most road wins in the NHL (17)(DET – 18)
Only Detroit(10) has fewer regulation losses than Montreal
The Habs are tied for 5th in the NHL in goals scored (154)
The Canadiens just won in Jersey for the 3rd time in the last 15 years
This team is for real. The next few weeks contain even more intriguing questions than whether or not Andrei and Sergei were fathered by the same man (just kidding). Does everyone stay? Does someone get moved? Does Bob Gainey think this team can go deep into the playoffs?
That win was big.
This game was a HUGE confidence boost for the entire team. Think this is a team turning a new page?
We’re 2nd in the east now, 6 points behind Ottawa who lately are playing roughly .500 hockey. This should make for an interesting next few months.
Is he a Quarter ? I had Morgans on my ranch in N.B. Loved them
The Habs showed so much character last night in coming back. This team has a resiliency we haven’t seen in the past. Of all teams, the Devils, we would have folded our tent and moved on. A real team effort, bodes well for the break and for the home stretch. Bring it on! Nice to see Higgy get on the board and I take back anything I said that was derogetory about Slowinski (ooops!). Go Habs!
Hard to believe but true facts:
a. we have the third highest winning percentage in the entire league
b. we are fifth in the leage in goals scored; fourth in goals per game
c. 2nd in PP percentage
d. 2nd in the league in road wins
These are YOUR habs, my friends.
I know my friend Ian Cobb is here somewhere, we were both in agreement at the beginning of the season, if we can’t win a cup with Gainey & Carbo, we’ll never win it, it’s like death and taxes. We may not get there this year, but it is ours before the decade is out.
The only “bad” thing about tonight’s game was that it didn’t occur on a Friday or Saturday night. I really feel like getting a quality buzz on!
You have to believe after an effort like that. No quit whatsoever. And after not playing all that well for the first half of the game! It would be nice if Huet hadn’t allowed three goals on just fourteen shots, but you couldn’t fault him for any of them either: the Elias blast off the post, the sweet set-up for Elias’s second, and then the 5 on 3 screen shot from the low point … Jersey was certainly opportunistic.
Best thing about this game was seeing the Habs get TWO monkeys off their backs: beating Jersey in Jersey, and coming back to win in the third. Awesome. I can’t remember the last time I was happy going into the All Star break.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
The Canadiens finally caught a break against the Devils and won a game. It was nice to see Koivu figure into the offense and the whole team played a hell of a third period. I also noticed the centers doing a decent job in the faceoff circle, especially Pleks and Max. Nice win.
You can always justify it by saying that tomorrow is Friday.
… AND Robbie Burns day…
Am I wrong or is komi +7 the last two games?
Undoubtedly the toughest 13-shot game of Huet’s career! Not good for the save%, but he definitely came up big when the cards were on the table. Has a goalie ever earned a game star for a 10-save performance? I think that I would have given him one tonight.

Thanks friends. I’m good now!
Have we played the fewest home games so far of any team this year?
hmm, so whats our record with brisebois out of the lineup?
How about we concentrate on giving credit to the guys that were IN the lineup tonight?

In an earlier post today I said that I was hoping that we “TAKE” a game and not “STEAL” a game. Well tonight I think we “TOOK” a game with an exclamation point.
I admit I was not convinced in the first and second periods especially when the second 5-3 was called, but our guys prevailed. Everyone contributed in a way.
BTW, what was Carbo jabbing about? He did not help there.
mjames
we’ve played 22 while phili has played 21. we have played second fewest. Most teams would be thrilled because then they get to play more at home later. But with our record
Hear, hear Yeats!!
haha, i was just making a joke. Anyways, great effort. Love this new “Energy” line.
Alls I can say is, the lads earned their haggis tonight.
Great Chieftans o’ the hockey-race!
Aboon them a’ ye tak your place.
Brilliant!!!
I left the Ozzy show tonight early enough to watch the 3rd period (I saw more than half, and I am not a huge fan anyways, it was also a free ticket).
So I told my Dad earlier that MTL would win. Imagine, I get home and see the score. I just about FLIPPED!!!
But I opened a Molson and put on my hat that my wife and daughter ( she is 5 1/2 months old and cheers for the HABS
), bought me for Christmas, that has the tags still on (for good luck), and by the way they have only had 2 games with no points since then. I just knew and believed they would come back……..
and they did……
Slapped the SH*T out of the Devils tonight! Unbelievable 3rd. To come back 2 goals behind and beat the migthy Brodeur. Brilliant, did I say that already.
olééé olé olé olééé
GO HABS GO
Number 25 this year folks….just believe and it WILL happen
You DID say that. The Habs outshot the Devils in the second, and completely dominated, in the third. That qualifies as a ‘TAKE’ to me.
Agreed, and we have two of the best builders in the league. BG remarked that we had the “top” of the pyramid – best PP in the league last year, now it was time to fill in the bottom, goaltending, defence, offence. That’s happening, the last piece of the pyramid is the offence and that’s starting to click too. Onwards and upwards!!!
Right on Moey—-Below–Its starting to come together. We are not there yet, but once we learn how to win consistently at home, there won’t be to many teams that will want to meet us in the 1st round !
Mike— Brisebois will be a 5th d for us come playoffs, and were going to need him. I do like your man Georges better every game.
what’s the difference between the leafs and a cigarette machine?
The cigarrette machine actually has PLAYERS.
why don’t the leafs drink tea?
cause the canadiens have all the cups.
well said…hpoefully people will lay off his back now.
Just wanted to post this:
My friend wrote it about saku.
The first 2 lines are about kovalev
Some of you guys are unreal. Last year you were calling for AK27′s head, he’s a bum, no heart, waste of cap, overrated….on and on.
This year he is christ reborn. The guy is going through a rough patch.
Now about saku.
This is a guy who has always been the bright star on shitty teams. Now he is playing on what can arguably be called the best team he has been apart of in his NHL career and he isn’t in the starring role. Being the kind of player he is, imagine the pressure he is putting on himself. The sleepless nights, wondering why it’s not going well.
I am fortunate enough to be at practice rather often, and he is smiling and laughing with the guys. But he did lose his 2 best friends. The longest serving guys with him now are Booboo, Markov, Ryder, Komisarek and if you can count Briser.
How many of his current teammates were on the team when he came back from cancer?
For those of you who play hockey, put yourself in his place. Forget the money aspect. Millions don’t replace the bond you create with guys in the room. When thats taken away…not easy to replace.
Saku will be back. He will start scoring, he will start setting up his line mates and he will remind everyone why he is THE CAPTAIN. Why? Because talk is cheap and SAKU HAS DONE IT BEFORE.
what kind of genius signs a 35 year old late bloomer to 5 million a year??
it’s sad but blake’s contract should be bought out immediately and have someone resign him for half that amount.
what’s sad about the leafs is if they start axing their vets…they don’t have enough young depth at all to stay competitive…they’ll be an AHL calibre team.
and what do we do when we play the leafs?? carey price is in ham town…play halak?
Laffs is winning lately. They think they can win the cup now!
Has anyone noticed that Boone is using the middle initial F. again? Maybe cagerattler can check the archives and see how we did the last time Boone used F. for a whole bunch of names.
He only cares if it happens in back to back games.
Just getting around to looking at the standings after the Boston game (I know, I’m slow) Only team with less regulation losses than the Habs is Detroit.
Thank you for that. It’s nice to see an encouraging stat after I’ve been hearing all about how long it is since we beat Jersey, how few goals we’ve scored on Brodeur, how low Huet’s sabe percentage is against them, and on and on…
Thank you for that. It’s nice to see an encouraging stat after I’ve been hearing all about how long it is since we beat Jersey, how few goals we’ve scored on Brodeur, how low Huet’s save percentage is against them, and on and on…
this is heroic
i repeat. i am so impressed by carbo getting the boys out to play in the third after the two 5 on 3s in the 2nd. not to mention the amazing penalty kill at the end of the second.
That weasel-faced ref sure likes calling penalties doesn’t he?
PP….can we bury them…?
I had my eyes shut so tight I popped all the blood vessels.
the only problem is, we have top 5 ot losses. So we loose the tie breaker
Jesus, I don’t think anyone on here is a Saku ‘hater’… A little more effort would be nice, from our CAPTAIN. Esp when the line only had three shots over two periods.
Agree
Stop confusing effort with production.
I did not even want to watch the third, thank god I am a slappy!
GoHabsGo!!!
Great comback! very lucky, i just have 1 major thing to say. Higgins is what is bringing down the team right now. not ryder. Higgins is playing as a defensive forward when he should be playing like a power forward. Higgins said 3 weeks ago, that he feels his role has changed into a defensive forward. Ryder being demoted is a HUGE MISTAKE!!! he has not been playing poorley. Higgins has been slow on every play and is contantly staying back and ruininbg 3 on 2′s.
If they score here, it would be nuts. Down not one, but TWO goals going into the third, to JERSEY of all teams, and a possible W?
Go! Go! Keep it up, guys!
I have a confession… I paid off the refs between periods.
Is this for real?!?!
Is it just fantasy…..
ET LE BUT!!
GoHabsGo!!!
WATATTOOOOU!
HIGGINS!
PLAN THE PARADE ROUTE
OUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha
OH
MY
GOD!
Captain Clutch!
Oh My God
Higgins scored
…
I love the world
I’m so giddy!
Ouch.
I nearly broke something celebrating that goal.
YES HIGGY SCORES!!!
Koivu magic and a little Higgins magic.
Take that haters
That’s the Koivu I remember
What a time for the under-achievers to achieve. 4-3.
Good timing.
Holy poop! Aquinas, Descartes, and now my own personal proof for the existance of God. I see the light. I see the light. Jesus Christ, I see the light!!!!
ok, THIS, ladies and gentlemen. . . is the OFFICIAL re-introduction of YOUR montreal canadiens.
They have not overcome this kind of situation in years. They are officially a playoff team. They have solved Brodeur. They (may) win in NJ.
Most impressive and surprising win of the year especially down two going into the third if we can hold on. WHAT A TEAM!

Boone!!! Eat your words!!!
GoHabsGo!!!
Lol Komie bowls over the moron Devil trying to run a pick. God I hate the devils.
Simply amazing, Carbo, amazing.
We’re not caught in a landslide. Could this be an escape from reality?
Open your eyes, look up to the rafters and see…
agree; like he woke up or something.
haha I actually did. The spring in my lazy boy just popped. Big ass cushion in er now.
That may have been worth double posting.
Boone,
You did it again man! Keep up the reverse jinx, as I said before you are the master.
I am STUNNED right now, I never thought that they could possibly comeback in this game, this is HUGE for their confidence, now they cannot let this slip now, they have to shut them down NOW!!
GoHabsGo!!!
I cannot wait to find out what was said in the room between periods. What a performance.
I swear to God everytime I follow a game from here, we win, if I watch the game, we lose…
:psyduck:
that’s where my credit goes. this is great news that he apparently can give a motivational speech. amazing growth since last year.
It is official, Ryder out, Dandenault in.
That should have been posted twice! All the best, Brian
alright boys.
seal the deal.
ANOTHER PP!!!!! Lets finish them!!
GoHabsGo!!!
Now THAT’S my kind of optimism!!
Je ne comprend pas! Why is Ryder out again? Did anyone seeanything in particular that gets him off to the 4th line? Please point it out. I am dying to know.
It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!
completely agree
Thank god Kovalev is trying, otherwise it would be freakin boring!
Whats up with the Captain?

Habs have been lulled to sleep by NJ’s yawn-inducing style of play. If they don’t wake up soon, it’ll be 3-0 before the night’s over.
I hate NJ, so boring to play against them. They have a good system, I’ll give em that, but yaaaaaaaawwwwwnnn

….Is the period over yet? Yawn-inducing is right!
And I understand them, no time to panic, we are playing well in general.
usually we have a great passing game, hard against a trap team like this.

Koivu’s line looks bad both offensively and defensively. Ryder uses his body only when he doesn’t have the puck. When he has the puck, he is not physical at all.
Errr… wow.
I am going to go ahead here and call this the worst officiating I have seen all year.
this is a night when huet might have to steal a game for us. the problem is that he hasn’t stolen a game for us in a while. we’ve been scoring plenty of goals lately, huet’s once a game softy hasn’t hurt us too much. tonight, he needs to be solid.
Ladies & Gentlemen, for your viewing pleasure this week..
Tuesday 7:30 PM – Deliverance
Thursday 7:00 PM – Miracle on Ice
hahaha. that’s gold moey, gold.
Isn’t the definiton of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? We must all be crazy expecting the Habs to beat the Devils when they keep playing soft hockey.
Think I will do something more exciting like watch some paint dry. At least the paint isn’t afraid to go up against the wall.
A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.
Sir Winston Churchill
Ha! Although…….. doesn’t the paint go ON the wall, not against it?
Wow… umm.. the refs are.. for us??? nooooooo. (shakes head)
It’s not the refs. For some reason the Devils responded to being up two goals by slashing and tripping the opposing team. Now they’re paying for it.
WHAT!!! I leave for 15 minutes to pick up something from work and the mirculous has occurred!
Jersey is getting undisciplined now. Calling absolutely everything tonight.
Penalties are what made this game. Now that the Devils are playing sloppily and taking unnecessary penalties, they find themselves losing.
Missed the first but I see that Smokes has 66% of our shots. That can’t be good…
But he is 100% in the faceoff circle as is lapierre, pleky is 83%. I am just trying to dig for positives here. The downside koivu is getting owned at 33%.
Just six Boone? Looked like 15.
Such a boring game so far. The Canadiens need to bang their way into NJ’s zone. Some hits on their defense will force them so make some soft plays of their own and maybe the Canadiens can capitalize on that. Right now New Jersey is just toying with them.
This would be HUGE
1 to go
Lucky break!
GoHabsGo!!!
Is Koivu dressed? Didn’t notice him in the first… (sarcasm)
Nobody told the Devils that they would actually have to play a game to pick up those two points over the Habs. By the way, the Bruins are looking good tonight.
2-0 lead… goodnight.
Ouch… that was nice.
Come on Saku! Show us some leadership. The Habs haven’t needed it lately, but if there was ever a time to lead this team through a trying game, it’s now. They need to beat New Jersey. They haven’t beaten them for so long. Tonight would be a great night to end that losing streak.
(I’m not questioning Koivu’s character in the least with this statement. It simply seems to me that he hasn’t been his firey self for a while and I miss it. I don’t know what’s up, because I love the guy and I miss seeing him all over the ice creating stuff.)
He’s changing the lines again…bummer!
Bring back Pierre Dagenais! And Gino Odjick!
too many men, stupid
We need to start crushing NJ guys into the boards and get nasty. Thats what we NEVER do when we start to get down. Show some #$%%ing heart, show us you care.
i think its time to start double shifting either kovy or his entire line. Koivu looks disinterested again tonight
Koivu is really getting on my nerves. He turns the puck over literally everytime he has it in the offensive zone. He used to be labeled as a guy who could make his teamates better…I dont think this is the case anymore.
We are a different team when we didn’t score the 1st goal. Even line changes are bad.
I think (maybe) I’d like to see Tom “The Bomb” Kostopolous run Brodeur.
wow, we scored, I had almost fallen asleep
LIFE!
slowinski scores, great work by kovy
Smolinski?!
YES!! Smoke is coming on now. Nice to see him going finally
Nice slewfoot by Kovy
God I hate the NJ Devils. Is it wrong if I wished that a comet would hit their building one day when they are in there having a practice?
Smo looked about as suprised i was to seem him score.
I wish Koivu’s line fights like Kovy.
Smokey is on a 2 game goal scoring streak! against two all-star goalies no less, LOL
… and theres a glimmer of hope.
considering the arena is in newark, it would probably make an improvement to the neighbourhood
Boone,
Thanks for jinxing Jersey with that comment at the 10 minute mark. You are the master
Hilarious. I’m watching the game on FSN . . . the play-by-play man announced the goal, accurately. Even repeated Smolinski’s name . . . said it was Smoke’s 11th goal in 32 games vs Brodeur.
Then the replay came on, and the colour man kept saying, “I’m trying to see . . . I’m trying to see who scored the goal!” On the 2nd replay, the back of Smokes jersey appeared, so the colour guy says “Oh, and it’s the veteran Smolinski!”
Bad, bad, bad . . . Americans announcing a hockey game . . .
You gotta love the fact that they use two different announcers. One guy announces the Habs goal(s) in a monotone, airport-intercom monotone. The other is a professional wrestler / drill sargent / death metal singer by day, hockey announcer by night.
Devils are the most boring sports team in professional sports. I came home after the first period knowing it woudl be a sleeper. I am, unfortunately, not disappointed. At least we scored one finally.
Hate the devils. Everything that’s wrong about the NHL – 15 years and counting.
the lead commentator is one of the best hockey announcers there is. . . mike “doc” emrick.
the color guy is glenn “chico” resch, the former nyi backup goaltender and a canadian.
xenophobic are we?
I miss the Meadowlands. I caught a couple games there. It was an awesome arena.
I couldnt agree more. NJ is what made the NHL need to put all these gimmicks in to “fix” the game.
absolutely nothing against emrick . . . a great announcer.
However: for the color guy to miss seeing a goal, miss his sidekick announce the goal, miss his sidkick giving statistics on the guy who scored the goal, well, that’s just horrific.
I don’t care what nationality he is.
Anyone else notice Colin White and Sergei hacking each other before the faceoff. Then Sergei smoked him and won the puck seconds after…briliant
He could have played that!!!
MUST WIN FACEOFF
GoHabsGo!!!
Hold em off, boys. No penalties, no last minte panic.
Thats should be it!
GoHabsGo!!!
this is unbelievable.
Begin just made up for his earlier penalty…great pressure
I like the refs now
Elias actually protested that! Ha, I say.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Konisaurus!!!! What a hit!!!!
GoHabsGo!!!
Yeaaaaaaaaaah!!!! Gooooo habs gooooooo!
OK, I have to admit I was expecting the worst here, but whatever the result, these Habs have just demonstrated that they are the real deal.
Holy crap. Did we just win?
LAUGHING MY ASS OFF at Gionta… keep your head up little man, and don’t bite off more than you can chew haha! Character win by the Habs.
My favorite win of the year. The Habs are back. This is unreal. . . only second victory in 13 years against the Devils in NJ. . . first since 2002.
WE ARE BACK!!!
That was without a doubt the best effort by the team this year.
Gionta was moving so fast he actually flew. Granted he had help from Komi.
This game will be the one we refer to that defined their season!!
GoHabsGo!!!
We played good in the 3rd period. What a game!
It wasn’t pretty, I have no more fingernails, but the final result is all that matters.
Enjoy the break, you guys deserve it.
Like Murray Wilson said: “Wow”.
So, now that we’ve ruled out the Habs coming behind in a tough game as an impossibility, I guess the only certainty in life is that the Leafs suck?
WOW!!! Gusty Performance.
I am all out of breath. I had to run to jump back on the band wagon. What a team. Such grit and heart. Greatest team in the league. Stanley Cup here we come!! Ha Ha
A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.
Sir Winston Churchill
Can we now stop the “trade this one – trade that one” bull?
This was the turning point of the season. . . and I’m not prone to melodrama, but of the franchise. . . biggest regular season win in years.
LOL, exactly as I predicted: a win in NJ, with Smolinski and Higgins as the first and second stars.
What a huge, Huge, HUGE win tonight!! Haven’t beaten this team in their own building since Feb 5, 2002!! enjoy the break guys, you deserve it! GO HABS GO!!!
Nice one!
I dunno if there’s any room on this bandwagon right now… it’s kinda crowded
Haha, Taxes, Death and the Laughs suck..sounds about right to me.
This win is inspiring.
ahh, so i’m not dreaming all of this… it couldn’t be that we are beating the devils in their own building AND that the refs were for us.
HUGE PK.
Never fails. The Habs start to make noise in a game and the refs are there with a GARBAGE GARBAGE GAAAARBAGE call to silence them.
Hey CageRattler, where is our so-called Homer reffing?
Fantastic, Steve…
Just FYI:
This is the FIRST time this season that the Habs have won a game when behind after the 2nd intermission…against the Devils no less.
Wow…Martin F. Brodeur? Well, yah, he was good…but the Habs won every departement of this game, after the 1st period.
Gun please.
3 goals in the 3rd?
no problem
Okay, I’m a bit late but,
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a horseshit call on Begin
F&^% well that’s it!!!
damn brutal officiating
I didn’t catch who that fly was, at the end, that tried to go at Komisaurus.
Brian Gionta. A joke.
Brian Gionta
Two assists last game, the result of two goals this game. At least he’s on a streak of some sort.
The Montreal Canadiens are BACK. Let’s party like it’s 1993!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
That is a joke. This is hockey. Just a little push. WTF!!!
I must admit, I thought I was in the Twilight Zone after the Canadiens pulled off the comeback of the millenium. I had folded when the score was 2-0 and began to focus on other things, using distractions as a balm for the inevitable wound that was developing. The Habs’ 2nd goal tweaked my interest and I listened more intently from another room. The tying goal were the paddles to my failing heart and drew me back to the tube. And, a surge of renewed hope & ecstacy filled my soul when the game-winner arrived. So I pinched myself in an attempt to return to reality. I couldn’t allow silly fantasies to cloud my hockey sense, so I watched every highlight and recap reel I could find just to convince myself this was no dream! The score was real. The win was real. The Habs are for real.
That game was a litmus test of the character, tenacity, and motivation of this team to win. It proved a few important points:
1. The Habs have broken the curse of the Devils (no pun intended, but then again…)
2. That game was a display of the team’s desire and ability to win, not only in NJ but in the playoffs – and, without a doubt, that’s where they are headed!
3. Defeating the Devils on their home turf was a solace for Habs fans who’ve been incredulous about the team’s ability to beat tough teams with solid goaltending (myself included)
4. It gave credibility points for the coaching staff to strategize a comeback and solve a typically sound defensive team
5. As a result of the effort, I will change my name to “HotHabs”, thus removing the “cold” which was a reflection of my lack of confidence which had been proven by the team’s inconsistent play earlier in the season and dating back far too many seasons.
I am convinced this team can win against any team in the league, and I think the same is now true of the team. They are far from being a powerhouse, but they are on the rise and their character and chemistry is developing nicely. They will certainly lose games, but those losses will be scattered and forgotten quickly.
Enjoy the All-Star break. But, honestly I can’t wait for this weekend to pass so the real hockey can once again entertain us!
enjoying the high’s of being a Habs fan
Woops there another completely GARBAGE call against the habs..wierd.
NJ scores and the refs can rest happy.
even the new jersey commentators didn’t think it was damn penalty….what a crock.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
How is taking stupid penalties supposed to help this team?
Guillaume…
I LOVE how things are spiraling out of control. Hilarious.
Geeez…. they really don’t like the Habs down there do they.
What the hell 5 – 3 again?! What happend?
Those two calls were not even close to deserved. The bench minor maybe was, but without the first two, you never see the third.
Ahh, well, I said Halak should start. Even though nothing is Huet’s fault tonight.
Carbo should put him in for the third.
Whats the fastest way to kill yourself without having a gun in your household?
I’m curious.
Great game by Begin so far………nice PK work……
Dandenault should be happy, he will be back next game.
What bullshit reffing tonight. Totally ruins an already bad hockey game!
The refs are destroying this game.
I think both were the result of a lack of stick discipline and could have been avoided if the players didn’t have whatever they have when they’re playing the Devils.
first goal was weak, he was too far in his net. second goal he had no chance on, lats was slow getting back. yvon pednault blamed it on georges, but is was lats fault. the third goal, i still think if huet had come out a bit to challenge the shooter, it would have hit him in the pads.
why, would dandy be the difference? please no.
First goal he was almost out of the paint, and Elias had all day to shoot.
Second was Begin’s fault
The third, it was one of the defenseman’s fault or Lappy’s as there were 3 Habs guys covering two Jersey guys in front of the net. Markov Gorges (as you say), and Lappy. Gui just tried to save the day.
I am not saying he would score 3 goals to give us the win. But you know he won’t be kept out forever, and after this game Begin will be the odd man out for Dandy to get back in.
Here are my fearless predictions for the third…
Latendress is gonna get the puck… split the defense K1 style, top corner on Brodeur.
Then!
The Hamrlik with a blistering slap shot from the blue line… goes RIGHT THROUGH Brodeurs glove…
Haha… i can dream can’t i?
I’ve never seen this ref before. You know the goofy looking one who calls all the bad penalties. I don’t blame Carbo for mouthing off! Sigh, if only Patrick Roy were there
Go Haaaaaaaaaaaaa….snore.
22 shots total in two periods? This is a booorrring game. Some might say I only think so because my team is on the short side of the score, but I think it is empirically boring. The only way I could get excited about this is if it was a playoff game and my team was up. Otherwise… I can understand why New Jersey has empty seats. Actually, the mystery is why anyone shows up.
Latendresse would love to get sweet revenge on Sutter for not playing him in the WJC.
Both calls were made up, period.
Two goals on four shots! The Devils have one of the most efficient offenses in the NHL. They are just a well-oiled machine!
wow, alfie already has a hat trick, 32 goals on the season. sens up 4-0.
… you missed the last b.s. (as in the officiating)
Funny, Chico Resch blamed the second goal totally on Latendresse turning away from the play turning his back on Elias and being totally out of position.
Hmm, whose opinion am I going to trust? Stanley Cup winning goalie or RDS homer hack?
Boone: “Steve Bégin obviously cross-checked that guy”
Mike, You need to watch that replay again. Then, if it still looks like a penalty take off your Devils jersey and watch it again
I’m rarely complain about the reffing of a game. You win some, you lose some. Some calls are for you, some will inevitably be against you. I hate the defense of some Habs fans after a game . . . the Refs are against us, so we can’t win, blah, blah, blah. Of course, this goes to provide emphasis to the following:
The last 5 minutes of the 2nd period were the worst 5 minutes of refereeing I’ve seen all year.
Having a friend who has a guillotine.
i made the mistake of going to see the devils play the habs when i was in ny one time. so boring. this is a typical game for them. hate it. even if we won it wouldn’t be worth the price of admission.
Against a better team (or the leafs), with the pressure on, Huet just caves.
We never get the calls against the Devils going back to the year Nieuwendyk ran over Hackett and scored the winning goal and Andre Savard went ape crap on Fraser afterwards.
That was a soft call on Begin.
We get two this period to send Marty packing for the pizza oven.
Yes, he was last seen making a stupid dipsy doodle pass to a Devils defenseman instead of shooting the damn puck in the last period.
The D’s had me hypnotized for a good long while. I was rolling on the floor barking at the moon when the wife stopped me.
Alfie was a John Ferguson Sr. find.
WTF is up with Smokes?
and just like that….
we have a game.
Smokes again lol!
Brodeur looks terrible tonight, we may have a chance.
This game ain’t over boys…
Where did smokes come from lately?
shots 32-13 against the 2nd best team in the East. Thats sick
The “previously” 2nd best team in the east!
Sooo… what did I miss?

For all us gleefully hoisting adult beverages, I’ll just acknowledge your post to be polite!!!
If the Habs make a serious run in the playoffs this year, we will all be pointing back to this game. Most character the boys have shown all year. That’ll do boys. That will most definitely do!
Absolutely. Not to be cheezy but this is also a turning point for me as a fan. I always cheer and support but past couple years there’s been a sense on inevitability when it comes to elite teams- the sense that we can’t cut it against them. To heck with that: this edition of the Habs has me more excited about the team than I’ve been in AGES.
that was ridiculous.
Most important victory of the year hands down!
Will do wonders for the guys confidence.
Sorry Dandy, hope you like hot dogs, gonna eat some in the press box during the next few games…
Wow! What a great third period! Simply amazing! Being down by 2 goals to a defensive oriented team like New Jersey after the second period and storming in the third period! What a confidence builder this is and knowing that Marty Brodeur is human after all! Guy Carbonneau is starting to look like a genius and prove all those skeptics out ther wrong. We’re playing like a team and having fun as well! Who said Smolinski was washed up? I told everyone that Smolinski and Brisebois are going to help us in the long haul, guaranteed! Steve Begin is back to his old ways and taking stupid stupid penalties, he almost cost us the game!
“We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets”
Man I can’t say enough about that third period effort in this game. What a performance! I am more than impressed with this win. What a team!!
WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who would have thought the Habs’ first 3rd period comeback of the year would be against Brodeur? Previously inconceivable!
In Bob we trust!
FINALLY!!!! Eat it Marty Brodeur.
Amazing! Made an already good day even better!!!
I am going to have to watch this whole game. Can anyone point me to where I could do that?
Enjoy the break boys! You deserve it!
Well said!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
SO much for TSN:)And the laffs lost.
Can’t believe we crashed the site. Awesome.
I’ll take that team hug right about now!!! I am SO very proud of our boys! What a team!!!
All those doubters (in Montreal and elsewhere – and this includes media) need to take a long hard look at tonight’s tape.
THAT’s commitment. THAT’s caring. THAT’s how you win the Stanley Cup.
I guess the pretenders are starting to look like contenders now.
RDS always plays the game back later…for an hour.
This one will definitely we worth catching again on Canadien Express!
Gotta love RDS!

Shots don’t count….goals do.
In the last 2 games, look at who they have scoring from:
Koivu
Smokes (3)
Higgins
K1 (2)
Ryder
Tommy K
Komi
Kovalev
Lapierre
What other team has that kind of scoring depth?
i’m ecstatic, but not hysterical. please no brisebois.
i’m ecstatic, but not hysterical. please no brisebois.
i’ll have to break his third foot.
The guys who needed to step it up,re, Saku and Higgy came through in spades. This game is a huge character builder and is the type of game the Habs can look back upon and gain confidence from when thing aren’t going their way in the future. GO HABS GO!!!
Sorry I’m late folks, what did I miss?
Oh……..
Uh…….
REALLY??????????
GET THE F&CK OUT!!!!!!!!!
I’ve made a huge mistake…
so who else wanted to see komisarek pound gionta?? a little bit of a mismatch…i can’t believe he even tried to pick one with komi.
Thanks for reminding me I am going to tape it!
GoHabsGo!!!
Looking at the shots/goals/effort in the third, I think the second period BS calls were a huge motivator. The coaches also did something right in between periods.
YouTube it!

only 4 points behind Ottawa.
We NEED to win the division.
GOD what a GREAT GAME I LOVE THE HABSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Watching Sutter on the post-game. I won’t be at practice tomorrow. I have the flu!
Gee, I sure hope the Habs don’t get swept by the Caps in that upcoming home and home series.
What a team. Bravo, guys, you’ve made us all proud.
I feel like we have turned a big corner.
Bring on the playoffs!
REALLY? Did you have to say that now?? How about we enjoy this one little longer please!
GoHabsGo!!!
For all those that say Bryan Smolinski and Patrice Brisebois (injured but will be back) are washed up….shame on you!! These guys are going to help us and provide the leadership skills and role models to the young guys. Bob and Guy I trust 100% totally! Way to go boys and the old goats on the team!
“We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets”
We have something to prove against Washington. Bring ‘em on!

great comeback! very happy about the game. But vnot happy with higgins. Maybe this will get his confidance back, but he needs to sit down with his line mates and the coach and they need to discuss what his roll is. he needs to undersand that he is not a defensive player and needs to stick with the rush, and sit in front of that net (like he did for that goal, and the 1 he missed)
Can we start using the word RESILIENT to describe these guys? The more I say it to myself, the more I’m starting to believe that this is Guy Carbonneau’s team.
omg…GOB!!!
haha he’s the best!
what…the guy with the $50k suit’s going to hold the elevator for someone who doesn’t make that in a year?! COME ON!!!
Only good things can happen when you bet the house’s money. Four aces! Biggest win of the year. First person to make a negative comment tomorrow gets flagged.
The Original 24 Cups
you just said the exact same thing before. . . and i will respond the same way. . . NO brisebois. . . what did he do to get credit? see the habs record when he’s not in the line up?
not even one small little negative, twice in one day you have ruined my fun!
Flagged, then flogged.

If the Caps do sweep the Habs, they would probably jump ahead of the Habs in the standings, by taking first place in their division and the third spot in the conference. The Caps are hot and they too have been a nuisance to the Habs.
I was actually wondering about that today.
Should they win the division?
Because with the way the team plays on the road, wouldn’t it be better if they placed, say, 5th?
One of my favourite lines ever from any TV show (rough quote):
Lindsay- I’m passionate about nature.
Michael- You’re wearing ostrich-skin boots!
Lindsay- I’m not passionate about OSTRICHES, Michael.
That finish was definitely worth a drink or two!

They do have the talent. And, to come back and win in the third after having given up three goals. This could be a new edition of the Habs. A team down by two on the road going into the third against a premier opponent and you don’t dare change the channel. We haven’t had that type of squad in quite some time. Man, I like it!
not cheesy, chorske. . . exactly how many of us long-time fans feel. it’s pretty clear we all feel like tonight was a turning point. i feel. . . validated. man did i miss this franchise.
WOW!!Smoke is really smoking tonight!
SMOLINKSI?!?!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?
HAIL GAINEY
wow, 3 goals against marty in 1 period, especially the 3rd, jersey’s favorite period to trap. Unbeleivable effort by the boys when I think everyone had them counted out. They didn’t fold at all. It’s going to be games like this that we’ll need as inspiration when we’re in the playoffs. And we WILL be in.
Some of the calls are iffy at best…..Goal!!!So it 3-2 for the refs.
Smoke – who put a charge of pepper up your butt tonight?
Smolinski.
The Original 24 Cups
Boone, I’m not convinced about Begin’s “obvious” cross-check. Though I truly don’t like the color man on FSN (see below), even he repeated, “Oh I don’t know.”
Color man: Oh I don’t know. I really don’t know about that one.
[Replay of the check]
Play by play: Are you saying . . .
color Man: Well, it’s tough to see on the replay . . . oh I don’t know . . . tough on slow motion . . . I don’t
Listening to Chico Resch on the post game show, he should just do dope. You can’t be that stupid and be taken seriously by anyone in the 21st Century. (If the Isles didn’t have Billy Smith, they would have been in real trouble with this dude.)
Maybe the TSN crew will hire him if Milbury takes the GM gig with the laffs!

Why? What’s he saying?
i’d love to beat these bastards. nice goal.
We wanted to see how we match up against the elite teams. Tonight we more than matched up. We absolutely dominated Jersey for the second half of the game. A courageous, gutsy, character-building performance. Hats off!
Also a lesson learned for how we should have played the first half of the game. Knowledge is power!

“All bow down before the Komisaurus Rex!”
we have life!
i think you said “…and there’s a glimmer of hope” or something like that after our last goal
seems like your mood is rising!
Come on guys! Smokes is stepping up tonight. Don’t you feel dare I say, unmanly? Let’s bury these bastards!!!!
My favorite moment was in the last minute of the game, one of the NJ players rushed into the Habs’ zone with the puck and Komi just put him right on his a$$. You could see NJ suddenly realize that it was really over for them.
Yeah, I missed who it was too. Apparently, it was Gionta. He looked like a freaking fly, compared to Komisarek.
Neither goalie is going to like the stat sheet tonight. Save percentages are pretty bad.
Downie knew darn well that Laraque was coming. And you think he didn’t know Laraque was going to paste him? I’m tired of seeing players go into the corners and putting themselves in vulnerable positions. Brace yourself for the hit you KNOW is coming. It’s hard to feel any sympathy anymore..
Actually it looked to me like Downie sold that one a little, im not conviced he was actually hurt too badly. Probably won’t be back this game anyways cause I think that would look pretty bad.
Sergei hit the post, didn’t he… This is nuts.
We are going to get penalty again.
Yes! finally, a pulse!
Great time for Koivu to step up and LEAD this team!!!!
I love Smokes…man, great time for him and it’s a game!! Man, we had the momentum until those 5-3….now, it’s a game again.
One thing I’ve noticed…Koivu needs linemates who can finish..and help him get a little space too. I love Higgins, and we know Ryder can score, but neither are gellin with the captain right now.
Koivu, Sergei, and Max isn’t a bad looking line actually.
come on boys, STEAL a point for once.
PP come on boys, drive one in there…
This is their chance, let’s bury one!
GoHabsGo!!!
Koivu…he’s the captain, right?
i’ve been a huge koivu fan, but this is clearly his worst year to date in my opinion
are you kidding me?!
how did he miss that?!
Puck on the goal line and in regular Habs fashion we can’t seem to hit it the last 6 inches. Sigh.
That hurt!
GoHabsGo!!!
All together now:
HOW DID THEY MISS THAT??!!?!?!?!
WHAT THE @#&U@!!
WE NEED SOMEONE, ANYONE, WHO ISN’T ALREADY ON THE 1ST LINE WITH A FINISHING TOUCH!!
I mean…OPEN NET!!
i’m here to concede i’ve been wrong about carbonneau. to have them come back in the third period and play like this means he has the team playing for him. this is a major admission by me. . . he’s doing a great job.
Me more than you… He’s done very well.
umm, something tells me the long wrist shots aren’t going to go in on this Brodeur guy… just a feeling…
Cut Higgins some slack. He was trying to pick a corner!
I don’t think Higgy is snakebit Mike…he’s prolly just strangling his stick right now. He needs a fluky goal to loosen up.
I really love him….but higgins needs a game or two in the press box…
We’re actually playing pretty well right now. The Devils can’t seem to hold the puck coming down the ice.
How is the mugging on SKots not called? Two guys hooking him AND the free arm in there.
Woo interference penalty. This is it boys and girls.
Probably the same reason we had that flurry of penalties end of the 2nd…
this is our chance
and here we go again..
Either Huet is really fragile on his feet or he milked that one just a bit.
Higgy is more than worthy of wearing the CH, but if we’re being honest, he’s strictly a third-line grinder. Put him on a line with a sniper and another grinder, and maybe the pressure to produce as a first-liner will recede.
GO GET THEM BOYS!!
GoHabsGo!!!
Dare I say it …. the Devil’s curse has been excorcised!!!!!
GO HABS GO!!!!
Obviously, 2 points is 2 points. But sometimes 2 points isn’t just 2 points. Tonight, 2 points was more than 2 points. There are points and then there are points. Tonight’s points – priceless.
The Original 24 Cups
Smokes first star in a come-from-two-goals-behind victory against the Devils in Newark. Man, if you called this one, could you buy a lottery ticket for me?
Anybody know what our year-over-year won/lost comparison is like heading into the All-Star break?
I think we had a couple of more wins last year, at this time, than we do this year. As far as points though, I think we’re about even.
They had 59 points going into the all-star game last year; i don’t know how many games played. Oddly enough, only one more point this year.
27-17-5 in 49 games last year before the break.
He was moaning and groaning about how everything just went terribly agianst the D’s in the third. You had to hear him on the tying goal. All manner of Greek mathematicians were turning in their graves as to why that should not have been a goal. He even ignored his most damning evidence, his drawing a line across the top of the boards and the tip was below.
Hmm. I wonder how he justifies the Devils not being able to beat the Islanders, so far this season?
Notes so far:
a) Ryder hasn’t re-found last year’s form and he STILL tries to make passes…
b) Higgins generates 10 scoring chances per game on average, but only scores if he has 15+ scoring chances in a game
c) Need veteran scorer…J.P. Dumont & Brian Rolston are both UFAs this season, and while not Marian Hossa, could help. Problem: both are on teams well into the playoff hunt
F@#$’n Brodeur!
