Canadiens win soap opera

After watching Mats F. Sundin tie the game with seconds left – and score in the shootout – the Canadiens pick up two hard-fought points when Carey Price makes his 46th (43 in regulation and OT) save of the game on Jason Blake after Andrei Kostitsyn beat Vesa Toskala.

Alex Kovalev scored twice in regulation time – including a third-period go-ahead goal that looked like it would stand up – and once to start the shootout.

What a game!

Jacques Demers said he has never seen a 20-year-old goaltender play with greater sang-froid than Carey Price … and ol’ Jacques has seen some coldblooded goalies, including his beloved Patrick Roy.

Ice time: Bryan McCabe: 35 minutes

Andrei Markov: 27 minutes.

Zamboni driver: 40 minutes

Yah, the Leafs will be coming out of the gates like doomsday is on the way, but I don’t forsee the shots being 12-2. The Lafs have no confidance, and will be playing afraid of making a mistake. The Habs need to come out hungry and take them out, pointe finale!

J.T.: Leafs…drafting????? When JFJ gets fired, MSLE will not hire a qualified replacement (Glen Healy…..PLEASEEEE) who will promptly make a ‘big splash’ and trade away whatever draft pick they have.

That said, Stamkos is going to be an elite player in the NHL for years to come. I’m not sure how Tavares has been able to over-shadow him, cause Stamkos is dynamite.

  2. Y says:

    My bold prediction:

    Laffs 5 – Habnots – 2

Sundin Claus and his elf D.F Tucker will pot 3 early goals on Monsieur Price (Ooh la la)

This will lead to our French friend Mr. Huet to take over goalkeeping duties

With a slight fire under their feet, Pleks will score 1 early in the 2nd off a breakaway.

With the ACC in shock at what they’ve just seen, Koivu will win his first faceoff of the game, dishing it to Markov who will then get checked from behind by Mr. Mccabe. On the ensuing powerplay, the cube will wire one from the right point past the Salad. 3-2 Laffs

With momentum on their side, the Habnots will have some very nice sequences deep in Laffland but as always their finishing will be maligned by either a) a post b)a befuddled great pass c) overskating the puck.

With the Laffs surviving the 2nd period onslaught, they will finally wake up and rally to the cause of their coach.

Midway thru the 3rd we get to see Sweden-Ukraine all over again as F. Kaberle will somehow get one by Huet from 70 feet out.

Last goal will be an empty netter.

  3. RGM says:

5-0 Habs is what I’d like to see. Wings for everybody at La Cage, C. Price’s first shutout, and a decent beating of the hated Leafs that will compel MLSE to remove their “mistake” from office.

  4. howtathor says:

We need a strong start from our new first line. Lats has to live in the slot and rely on the speed of Koivu and HIggins to get the puck to him or have him screen Toskala. Ryder should be in good hands with Dandy and Chipper while the Pleks line is no problem. They can skate circles around the Leaf’s overpraid underachieving defence. Our fourth line has to be the most savvy group of veterans I’ve ever seen. They won’t give up many bad goals and will create general havoc in the Leaf’s zone. We owe them a little payback for last year. Now’s the time to exact revenge. GO HABS! LEAFS SUCK!

  5. saskhab says:

    That sounds fair.

  6. Plek-Andrew says:

Guys, you can predict all you want but if you’re not Plek-Andrew, your voice is not heard lol. Yes Boone, that means you too :O

Carey Price is gonna have his most horrible night of the year so far. In fact, I seriously think he’s gonna get pulled. If not, the leafs are scoring at least 4 goals on him tonight. That’s what I’m feeling.

  7. J.T. says:

If you’re wrong, do we get to throw rocks at you?

  8. Alex Leduc says:

I can very much see this as another close game, which could go either way. And i dont think anything good is going to come out of tonight. If we beat them then for us we beat one of the weakest teams in the league, and for them its closer to rock bottom. If they beat us, then we are really in bad shape, and maybe we need to start looking at some changes on the forward side of the bench.

I agree with Boone, the shots will be 27-2 after 1, but the score will be only 1-0.

And my leafs fan x-girlfriend who will be at the game in TO will surely be texting me every time the laughs score.

  9. krob1000 says:

Swami?? Say it ain’t so …..have your propaganda defences been compromised?? Are you a double agent?? There will be a Hab on the icy knoll (top of the circle) who does JFJ in tonight. Price will be credited with the act but it is he on the icy knoll who will deliver the fatel blow.

  10. Dan23 says:

McKenzie is one of the few (if not the only) at TSN who I actually take seriously. His MWF commentary on the Team 990 in the morning is equally great, and I imagine forces him to keep tabs on the Habs more than he might otherwise.

  11. Y says:

To hell with rocks, I want to fire some scuds

  12. Dan23 says:

    I’m predicting a one-sided game tonight, and that’s all I’m predicting.

  13. Girth says:

    Predictions:

Monsieur Price has a huge break-out game.

HABS: 4 (with one empty net)
Leafs: 1 (Late in the 3rd – on a rebound and lazy back checking, again)

    3 Stars:
    1. Price
    2. Kovalev (2 Assists)
    3. Latendresse (1 goal – Game Winner)

    Any thoughts?

  14. The Ian Cobb says:

If the HABS retain the slightest semblance of PRIDE, they will pound the maple out of the Leafs

    MIKE–see what a vocabulary i have now.!

  15. J.T. says:

    von:
There was an interesting defence of the Habs from an unexpected source last night. The TSN panel was talking about Lafleur’s comments, and they asked Bob McKenzie what he thought. McKenzie said, “I don’t think the Canadiens have four fourth lines. I think they have four second lines. And that’s the best thing I can say about any team in today’s NHL.” Now, I think calling the Smoke and Chipchura lines “second” lines at the NHL level is a bit of an exaggeration…as was Lafleur comment. But I thought it interesting that McKenzie spoke up in the Habs’ favour. He generally knows what he’s talking about.

  16. RiverviewCanadien says:

Well, it may not be over if we don’t get the first goal, but we do lack finishing. I believe we are one of the only teams that in the dying minute will allow the opposing extra attacker to score on us and force OT, and when we have the extra attacker, it usually results in an empty netter.

As long as we are still up after 2, we have a good chance of winning. I don’t think we have a good record when losing after the 1st or 2nd period.

  17. von says:

As much as the Leafs have a lot to prove, so do the Habs. After Lafleurs roasting, this is the game to come out and prove him wrong. Actions speak louder than words.

They need to keep up the pace early on, and things should fall into place. Lets stick it to ‘em tonight!

  18. Sehs says:

I think you’re right and the easiest way to prove that is to look at our win % when trailing after 1 or 2 periods. You guessed it, a big fat 0 (as shown on the main page). So getting the first goal helps because it increases our chance to be leading after 1 etc…

  19. J.T. says:

I don’t make predictions. Predictions are for people who end up getting rocks thrown at them.

  20. Mike Boone says:

    Paul Maurice is very witty.
I hope he always has a job in the league …. just for the one-liners.

  21. likehoy says:

agreed, Glenn Healy is the reason I don’t watch TSN

  22. Y says:

    Oops! I meant Sweden-Belarus

  23. leafs67_andcounting says:

Price will eventually get his doors blown off, but I don’t see it being tonight.

  24. krob1000 says:

YOu forgot the part whereHealy jumps in to replace them takes a puck in the mouth and is rendered speechless for the first time ever. I actually think I might like Glenn Healy if he had a puck in his mouth…..how bad can a guy with a puck in his mouth be anyway?

  25. The Teacher says:

What’s with all the worrying boys and girls!!!

    Let’s have some faith!!!!

A lot depends on the first goal of the game. If we can get it, we get that extra jump in our legs.

We also need to start winning face-offs. If we keep on losing them, it won’t bode well.

That being said. Here are my predictions.

Koivu takes a step up tonight
Toskala and Raycroft are BOTH pulled.

    Habs win 7-2

  26. krob1000 says:

You may be right but Raycroft or Toskala could do a better job with a microphone or in a press box as a g.m.

  27. likehoy says:

i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again…

Glenn Healy can put on a pair of pads and be a better goalie than Raycroft and Toskala, and that’s not saying much.

But I’m with Boone on this one…Healy for Laffs Team Pres lol

  28. Girth says:

You obviously don’t know me… I’ll let you rephrase your query.

    Perhaps give us your predictions…

  29. NLhabsfan says:

I believe Montreal will break it open in the second it leafs goalie doesn’t stand on his head……lot of frustration on the leafs part if they are loosing. There will be fights. Ya know Montreal does have some pressure as well on their side.It will be an entertaining game for sure.

  30. nightmare_49 says:

Carbo is being praised in the La Presse the last 2 days, see what i mean.” The Latendresse Syndrome”. Press before Team.

  31. Dan23 says:

Ah, Toronto, anything to distract attention:

“There was some levity at the Leaf skate yesterday, though, when the subject of some other critical remarks came up. Guy Lafleur, who is supposed to be an ambassador for the Canadiens, ripped into his team last weekend, saying the Canadiens are nothing but a team of fourth-liners.

Given his position and the team’s position — the Habs were a lofty fifth in the Eastern Conference before Tuesday’s games — this raised more than eyebrows in Montreal. Someone asked Leafs head coach Paul Maurice what he thought about Lafleur’s jabs.

“If you can get all four of your lines to play with a fourth-line mentality, that would be good,” Maurice said, and then he smiled at the large media contingent from both cities.

“And we thought we had it tough,” he added.

  32. Matt_in_TO says:

I will be there tonight cheering on the boys in person but I must admit I don’t have as good a feeling as I did when I went to the game two weeks ago. I have faith in Price and that the boys will come out with something to prove. Perhaps this will be the game that Ryder finally throws that monkey off his back.

If not than I’m in for a long night in enemy territory.

  33. Kilgore Trout says:

    see you there!

  34. ganderhab says:

Our boys need to move their feet enough to draw some more penalties. If there is one parallel from last season and the last 5 or 6 games it is the inabilty to make other teams take bad penalties. Last year we had the top powerplay, but we had the second fewest pp opportunities in the league. As for the line changes, Lats played well down low in Higgins spot last year with Ryder and Koivu. They cycled the puck like dogs. Higgins isn’t interested in cycling this year and is trying to beat guys one on one, that is why that line is struggling. Ryder back with the first line by the second period.

  35. RiverviewCanadien says:

I agree we may be outshot in the first, but barely. The Habs will not let them outshoot them like the last game (almost doubled), which we did win (atta boy Komi). Why is everyone giving up on them so fast. So they had an off month, but not a terrible one, but to say nothing good will come out of tonight’s game is not fair. They are trying a couple of new lines tonight so lets just sit back and enjoy the Habs deflating the Leafs, maybe McCabe will even score one for us tonight as well…5-3 Habs win (5th goal empty net by Koivu)

  36. MAB the HAB says:

IMHO the key will be getting the first goal. I concur that the laffs will come out firing and trying to show a little bit of pride, but once that initial energy and adrenaline wears down the Habs must pounce and get the first goal.
I am amongst the many that believe that this year’s edition of the Habs are overall stronger than last year’s – except in one key department: the ability to come back. Last year’s strong start was largely due to strong play at the end of the game, being able to mount a comeback and ‘steal’ a point or two.

Unfortunately, this year’s team has been unable to mount or finish off a comeback (see, eg, @ Buffalo last Friday). That edge/character/cojones built from coming back seems to be lacking this year…hence the importance of getting the first goal.

Score first tonight, get the crowd out of it, then proceed to score again…and again…and again…

    GO HABS GO!

  37. 24 Cups says:

A lot of teams can set the world on fire for the first 10 minutes of a game but very few can keep it going for an extended period of time. Leafs are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. Weather the original storm and then take advantage of all the breakdowns the Leafs inevitably will provide. If we can’t beat the league’s bottom feeders then……

  38. Les-Habitants says:

….i am so freakin’ jealous, on you being at the game where komi scored on a breakaway in ot and that you are at this game.

it’s not fair. Ah well, RDS-HD won’t be that bad. It’s on TSN too, but if I even hear/see Glen Healy I’m switching to RDS for the rest of the night.

  39. Revolution No. 9 says:

Should be a great game with two rivals hungrier than any plastic hippo. I’m going to race home to watch the last two periods.

  40. saskhab says:

You’re assuming the Leafs are a team of pride and character by saying the shots will be 12-2 after 10 minutes. I’m not sure we can assume that anymore. They used to be, but now they don’t seem to have that going on anymore. They appear to have given up on their coach.

If that’s the case, lucky us. But we have to expect they’ll be passionate and desperate.

  41. Erik says:

Ill be at the game tonight and I am pumped GO HABS!!!!

Last game I saw them at the acc was awesome KOMISAURUS!!!!

  42. von says:

Whats with all these predictions of the Leafs scoring 5 goals on Price? Maybe your all confused between the two goalies? Five goals on Huet would sound reasonable, especially vs. the Leafs, but this is Carey Price. The franchise.

The only way he’s letting in 5 is if the Habs put in an effort such as this past weekend.

  43. krob1000 says:

Thanks….I guess Darth Vader is Luke’s father too.
I guess I’ll just watch something else then.

  44. sidhu says:

    Take a timeout Carbo

  45. Bill says:

ANOTHER late icing!!! Komisaurus, wtf? Kill it, Habs!

  46. ganderhab says:

nobody whines faster for delay of game than Tucker

  47. Deano says:

Is there anyone in the ACC???

  48. Bill says:

    Go Habs, get it out!

  49. the_vipah says:

Sigh Blake runs into price……this league is embarassing.

  50. McHabby says:

I just threw a pillow across the room.

  51. Bill says:

    Can you believe this shit?

  52. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

I just threw the knife I was cutting this apple with across the room. Mental note: don’t hold knives in third period.

  53. Keith says:

    F&^K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. The Teacher says:

here we go again..how is that not interference on price??? WHAT A JOKE

  55. moser17 says:

Sundin might as well take Maurice’s spot on the bench and put a tie on after the game and take Ferguson’s spot in head office, and why not, he should probably strap the pads on to solve the Leafs’ goaltending crisis too.

  56. Bill says:

Look, if Price wants to be the man, he can’t be the man who allows goals like that. Five seconds left? That’s Thibault all over again.

  57. MannyP says:

Dean Warren is, without a doubt, one of the worst, if not THE worse, referee in the league. What is he doing refereeing a Leafs-Habs game?!?!

  58. Y says:

God, I was really hoping my prediction would be proven wrong…

  59. the_vipah says:

Boone: Koivu played that perfectly, if he misses that empty net then we all cry that he should have chipped it out, he does chip it out and they get lucky and score, we cry that he should have tried to score, he’s screwed either way.

  60. McHabby says:

I’ve put dents in walls before so I surround myself with pillows now.

  61. Kevin says:

Kovy and Price need to win this in the shootout…

  62. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

I am only praying that it’s the price who suited up against the Pens in nets for these shootouts. Please be Pens Price.

  63. Bill says:

Are referees really necessary? Cowardly even-up call, we all knew it was coming, KILL IT HABS!

  64. Keith says:

I knew that was going to happen… :-(

  65. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

    they missed that icing call.

  66. moser17 says:

I’ll say it again: Price could freeze fire.

Flipped to TSN, even Healy has to pay homage: “I’d like to get a heart rate monitor on this kid… does it ever go over 50?! He’s so cool, so calm!”

Sounds like idol worship to me.

  67. kevin m says:

Can someone explain to me how come “Nos Glorieux” are so inept at the face-off circle when Carbo & Jarvis were the “go to guys” in key situations during their careers?

The Habs seem to be forever chasing the other teams around the rink to regain posession of the elusive puck. The only center who is even close to 50% is Koivu. Koivu was a 1st line center earlier in his career but is now a second line center. Pleks is also a 2nd line center who shows flashes of being a 1st line center but is also too small. Chipchura will be a solid third line center & Smolinski is filler for now.

This team needs a big 90+ point center in the mold of a Thornton, Modano, Sundin(sorry) or Lecavalier. They also need another top 4 defenseman like a Wade Redden(UFA). These necessities will cost, so, be prepared.

    Go Gainey Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. krob1000 says:

They don’t get very low on faceoffs sometimes. Perreault had a nice segment done on him (I think by Cherry) when it showed him losing the draw but because he was so low he used his leverage to pull the puck back (after the opponent had already started to move the puck back) and win it clean. Perreault is the best faceoff guy in my liftime and if that is how he does it then all I can deduce is that is how everyone should do it. Video tape the guy and copy it…..if you can’t beat em…. join em.

  69. Naila Jinnah says:

I agree. They should either suck really badly and be very unlucky, or suck not too badly, but bad enough not to make the playoffs. Although you’ve got to admit that Habs vs. Leafs would make for a very interesting series…

  70. Drew42 says:

    Hey J.T.
I hear what you are saying, but didn’t the laffs trade away their next year’s 1st rounder to get thier new back-up goalie… oops I mean starting goalie… oops I mean back-up..(repeat until you realise how sad they really are :P lol) or am I mistaken?

  71. J.T. says:

Oh, and Mike…we have to be careful what we wish for. If the leafs suck bad enough, they’ll have a good chance of landing Stamkos in the draft this year and Tavares next year. It’s better for us that they be mired in mediocrity than outright stink. We don’t want them to be the next Pittsburgh or Chicago.

  72. Bill says:

Well, Price has a chance to atone. Do it, man.

  73. petemoss says:

    I have to admit.
    I’m scared.
I really think the leafs are going to make a statement tonight.

  74. J.T. says:

Well, I hope the Habs are wearing their asbestos skivvies tonight. And if Price is the sandbag barricade on our side, let’s hope the revamped lines (which I’d like to see remain intact no matter what happens) can be the gasoline on the leafs’ crackling campfire. The Habs are without question the better team…and if they skate and shoot consistently for the whole 60, they should be able to prove it. The only thing that can derail them is their own belief that they can’t beat the leafs. If they can pull it off, it won’t be the leafs house that’s on fire…it’ll be their season’s funeral pyre. Because if they can’t beat the Habs, they can’t beat anyone.

  75. Fagstein says:

That was actually a pretty exciting overtime period.

Would have been nicer had it not been necessary…

  76. Bill says:

Gotta hand it to Sundin and the Leafs … when’s the last time we saw the Habs tie it up with 5 seconds left?

  77. Fagstein says:

Wow. The Leafs even suck in the ice-resurfacing department.

  78. Keith says:

Yup got the zamboni out their so our end isn’t cleaner than their end lol!!

  79. The Teacher says:

They should fine the Laughs…the shootout ceremony went on too long!

  80. The Teacher says:

    FINE THE LEAFS!!!!!

  81. Keith says:

What the hell are these idiots doing??

  82. yathehabsrule says:

Well we knew a change would be made in the LEafs organization but ….Didn’t expect the zamboni driver to be getting his pink slip tommorow!

  83. sidhu says:

Is old man river going to resurface the whole ice??

  84. The Teacher says:

    Kovy first star
    Chipchura second star

  85. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

    Price, I love you.

  86. McHabby says:

lol @ the Leafs looking for any edge they can get.

  87. the_vipah says:

Toskala has never won a shootout, blah blah blah. We’re screwed.

  88. Fagstein says:

I’m going to have another heart attack here. How can Price stay cool at a time like this?

  89. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

    VICCCTOORY!!!!

  90. Bill says:

    Oh !#!$!%#!! yeah!!!

  91. moser17 says:

    HAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!! Done Deal!!!!!

  92. Forlando says:

Seriously, signing Huet and trading him for a real-deal forward is our best way to improve the team. Go Bob, the kid is ready, bring Halak as No.2

  93. showey47 says:

i guess blake should of ran price again on his shootout then have sundin come of the bench and tap it in

  94. Michael N. says:

Is that a hat trick for Kovalev? If it wasn’t for that second line wewouldn’t be looking this good.

  95. MannyP says:

Kosti que ca fait du bien! hahaha

  96. Y says:

1 word : Bryzgalov. You’re not going to get anything for Huet at this point and plus the organization is not going to rush Price.

  97. McHabby says:

Well, that was some good unnecessary drama. Almost made it the whole game without seeing Sundin’s ugly grin.

Will MLSE call a big press conference tomorrow to announce that the Zamboni driver has been fired?

  98. Moey says:

C’mon, Price has a good game and now it’s trade Huet. The management has a plan, just chill out. Don’t be such a numpty.

  99. The Teacher says:

Bill, how u managed to lay the blame for the tie-ing goal on Price is beyond me..why did he have to atone?? for what ???

  100. MikeL says:

Carey Price is unbelievable. His calm presence throughout the game kept me much more calm than I usually am during an Leafs-Habs game. He is ready. Gainey knew this all along. We should never be allowed to question his great hockey mind again.

  101. Y says:

    Is numpty humpty’s cousin?

  102. Bill says:

In the interest of keeping things honest, “the kid” blew THREE separate leads tonight, including one with 5 seconds on the clock. Clutch goaltending this is not.

The reason we all love Price so much is that he stays so cool out there … look, it reassures me too, but he’s forever letting in tying goals. Doesn’t anyone else remember Thibault??

Habs win, but this should have been a clean win. Leafs get some life with this giveaway.

  103. 24 Cups says:

We won the game – on the road – in our own division – against the hated Lousy Leafs – don’t bother with any in depth analysis because I don’t care. That can all wait until tomorrow. Right now, this very moment, my Habs rule!

  104. J.T. says:

    It’s a bird…it’s a plane…no…it’s a bird. A large, black bird…it seems to be circling…

  105. Keith says:

That game in the end was high end drama at it’s highest end. I thought I was going to hyperventulate when the laffs scored the tying goal. We should have had this in regulation. Why in hell can’t we beat this team in regulation??? They were a very desparate team the laffs, I give them credit. Two points is good but I hate to see them get a point because that sort of thing can burn us down the road.

  106. Bill says:

See post below. I just don’t like to see a goalie blow three leads and allow a tying goal with 5 seconds on the clock. Call me crazy.

  107. The Teacher says:

hahaha, circling over the Zamboni driver!

  108. Chorske says:

I’m with you. How many leads have we blown with fewer than two minutes left in a game this season?

LOL, we’re Habs fans- we have to find a cloud over every silver lining.

  109. showey47 says:

yeah the zamboni just got promoted to g.m. and the guy the drills the holes for the net is the new coach

  110. howtathor says:

PHEW! Should’ve won that game clean in regulation. We needed this win to restore our confidence. Still have a lot of aspects of our game to work on but we’ll take the two pts. Nice goal by Kostitsyn!

  111. 24 Cups says:

Koivu didn’t get the puck out, Blake was in the crease, Price ultimately outplayed Toskola in the shootout and he saved our bacon in the first period. Did I mention it’s his first year in the NHL? Gimme a break!

  112. Bill says:

Hmm, I may have had a bit too much Merlot tonight … come to think of it, Price didn’t blow three leads. My bad! Oh well, bygones. Anyway, not the display of clutch goaltending I would have liked to have seen, especially in the last ten seconds.

  113. TommyB says:

Can’t stop the puck when you are being run over.

  114. saskhab says:

Good adjustments, but too passive late in the 3rd and really all it took was them to pull the goalie and crash the net to score.

This one was ripe for the taking. I don’t like that they didn’t end up taking it until the 6th shooter of a ridiculously delayed shootout.

Price made his best saves in the shootout. A lot of the barrage of shots were from the outside, very few were good scoring chances. But this is clear, the only place you can score form on Price is below and between the hashmarks.

How about this guys? Only 2 divisional games in December. And until closing the season with 8 straight divisional matchups, we only get more than one straight divisional game once. Plus, we face teams called the “Red Wings” and “Predators” in the next week apparently. I’ve never heard of them. Is this a typo, or are they alternate names for the “Sabres” and “Bruins”, like how they sometimes have a different jersey?

  115. moser17 says:

You’re not crazy; it’s true, statistically speaking, that goalie performance is not a good thing; but the brevity and tone of your comments suggest what you can’t seriously mean, that Price was twiddling his thumbs the whole time and not making 43 saves.

  116. showey47 says:

in carey’s defence he would of made the save if blake didn’t hit him,. besides saku had a chance at the empty net or could of at least dumped it out with alot more authority

  117. johnny boy says:

I’m telling you, we need a real 3rd line shut down guy. Koivu shouldn’t have to be out there in the final seconds of the game. Where is our proffesional defensive/faceoff expert centerman. We need one desperately.

  118. fun police says:

give price a few starts in a row, see if what he can do. smolinksi’s pretty much done. not one of pleks better games. can anyone tell me why begin, dandenault, smolinski and kosto are doing on the ice in o.t. best line of the night, “the zamboni driver had more icetime than belak”, by healy. quite funny.

  119. showey47 says:

i’ve also noticed he can be beat high to the glove side but like u said, it has to be from in close

  120. TommyB says:

46 freakin’ saves! A shootout win (every goalie’s nightmare)! And you rag on Price? Was Price on the ice alone for those goals? I don’t get some people.

  121. Moey says:

Definition of numpty (it’s an Irish expression) means stupid,,,just sounds nicer.

  122. Moey says:

you look familiar, have we met before?

  123. JF says:

What do you mean – ‘”the kid” blew THREE separate leads’? The only time we had the lead was after Kovalev’s second goal. Price “blew” one lead – on a goal which should have been disallowed because Blake interfered with him. He played a great game and was outstanding during the shootout.

It’s not Price’s play which concerns me; he is doing OK and will only get better. It is our inability to score 5-on-5 which is the problem. If the powerplay scores, we have a chance to win; if it doesn’t, we lose. The RDS commentators pointed out before the game that we have the worst 5-on-5 record in the League and that teams that can’t score 5-on-5 rarely make the playoffs. Our goaltending is fine, our defense is usually good, our powerplay is good, but if we can’t generate more offense 5-on-5 we won’t get very far.

  124. The Teacher says:

uhh, why is Koivu always on the ice to save a 3rd period lead???

  125. Chuck says:

Don’t sweat it, Tommy. As his past posts have shown, Bill has a hate-on for Price.

  127. Bill says:

I think Price is very talented and I really like him, actually. No hate at all. Darcy Tucker, him I hate. Criticizing a hockey player’s performance on a dicussion board isn’t horrible enough to be called ‘hate’, is it? It’s true that I think Price is overhyped, especially by the ‘trade Huet’ crowd. It’s just an opinion.

  128. saskhab says:

Our defensive shutdown specialist centreman is playing in Nashville (although admittedly he wasn’t very good on faceoffs).

  129. jody1974 says:

    Hi gmd

We’ll if you’d think Ryder is way too much for Brendan Morrison I’d gladly take him off your hands for a 7th rounder. Please do pass your message onto David Nonis ASAP so he can contact Gainey right away. Then the Habs can go and trade Ryder to another team and get more back.

I can see it now… Higgy – Koviu – Morrison

  130. gmd says:

I don’t think Nonis will take my calls since I cancelled the tickets. LOL

  131. gohabs 25 says:

Lately I’m getting the impression that the RDS guys aren’t even watching the game. It takes them much too long to figure out where the penalty was, who deflected the puck…etc. I noticed this about 2 weeks ago and it’s really started to bother me. I would be watching the ref signal a penalty and then hear pierre or yvon asking each other what happened. Pierre Mcguire is great. I find him to be one of the most knowledgable analysts in the business however a friend of mine made an observation that I now find slightly irritating. He uses so many personal stories! Sometimes its great, other times – pointless. Anyway, can’t be too picky. After all, I don’t know what i would do without the relentless coverage provided by RDS.

  132. sisu says:

Mike Komisarek: 3:05, straight, in one shift at the end of the 3rd. Even with the Habs timeout, that’s a monster. He was too knackered to hold off Sundin for the tying goal.

Carbo has to be able to trust someone other than Komi, Markov and Hamrlik in those situations.

  133. jody1974 says:

Lets get the ball rolling a little bit tonight.

I don’t think the Lat’s experiment on the first line will work for the rest of the season. Habs need to try and pull away from the pack right now. Too many teams in our division are catching up. So I have a trade that’s 1 for 1 deal in current players that will get our #1 line going full force. We also don’t have to give up youth which is the key.

Vancouver is struggling and they need to make the playoffs and Vancouver tried to trade this player during the off season. So basically it’s Van dumping some salary to try and make another trade down the road if they need to.

Ryder and a 3rd rounder to Vancouver for Brendan Morrison.

Just remember the key is the Habs need to pull away right now. If were able to, then at the trading deadline we might be able to steal a player instead of it costing us big time.

Give me some feed back :)

  134. likehoy says:

is it me or has francis bouillon been invisible all year…no points and no mistakes…very nice.

  135. Plek-Andrew says:

    BTW GUYS!!!
I saw that Brisebois had a pretty good game. Did everything right and for one of those RARE nights, he was completely cool and confident in his actions. Didn’t hesitate and his passes were really great.

    I love seeing that…
and for those of you who missed it, I’m trying to boycott RDS cuz honestly…it’s the worst station to be watching hockey on. Horrible analysts and the cameramen suck.

Anyone notice when Antropov deflected the puck into the netting with his stick? on 3 replays, it was obvious. Yvon Pedneault was like ” ET LA RONDELLE A DEVIE SUR UN PATIN”

i was crying of laughter. he needs to retire.
TSN has been singing the HABS’ praises lately. They teach you very fundamental things about hockey.

Example; during faceoffs on a penalty kill (i just learned this tonight), the Habs tend to switch their defenders’ places in order to facilitate the clearing off the boards. Sound simple enough? Absolutely. Would I have noticed without the brilliant observations of the TSN guys? Absolutely not. Would i have noticed thanks to Yvon? Hell no!

Pierre is good but you can just HEAR in his voice he wants another partner lol.

    God bless Tsn…

  136. gmd says:

No way is Brendan Morrison worth Ryder and a 3rd rounder. Last year I had partial season tickets to the Canucks, so I saw Morrison play alot. His best days are over. He doesn’t have the speed he used to and he gets injured a few too many times to make a trade for him worthwhile. Other than Louongo, the Canucks have no one worth trading for.

  137. Erik says:

Was at the game good team win WAY TO GO HABS KOVY CAREY WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  138. sidhu says:

Ryder, Cube, and Halak for Lombardi, Warrener, and a 4th round pick

  139. Chorske says:

HAHAHAHA, yeah, I can’t deal with it. I watch the games on TV and listen to CJAD on the internet. There’s a delay but it’s liveable.

Remember Jean Perron? Now HE was funny. I remember, there was a whole website dedicated to the unintentionally funny stuff he said on the air. I only kept a few:
“Moi, je suis unanime là-dessus. ”
“C’est la cerise qui fait déborder le sundae ! ”
    “Ça commence à sentir l’eau chaude. ”
“Je m’en suis rappelé hier comme si ça me serait arrivé demain. ”
“Ça se vend à la vitesse de l’équerre ! ”
And so on… but I’ll take him over Cherry any day.

  140. Chorske says:

Uh, I’d take a Sedin or two, but it would cost us too much.

  141. sidhu says:

Yeah I’d take Bieksa in a heartbeat

  142. Mike Boone says:

You can still catch Perron’s act on 110%.

  143. leafs67_andcounting says:

Personally I prefer Pierre Houde to anyone on TSN or CBC (except maybe Jim Hughson), but what I do is listen to the opposing team’s broadcast on the internet. I do this for several reasons, one of which is to get a different perspective on the game and while I find Rick Moffat to be very professional and objective, he’s a little slow in describing the play. This isn’t football Rick.
Last night you had Jim Ralph and Dennis Bayak (not sure of the spelling) doing the Leaf’s broacast. Ralph is absolutely hilarious and fairly objective. Bayak, well, lets just say he’s a Leaf’s fan.
It’s something a lot of you should try if it’s available to you. Some announcers are shameless homers while others like Carolina’s Chuck Kaiton will remind you of Dick Irvin.
Pittsburgh’s announcer (name escapes me) comes up with the best lines. After a goal he’ll say something like “well scratch my back with a hacksaw…Crosby scores”.

  144. gmd says:

God, not Bieksa! He’s so over-rated. Check out his stats from the playoffs last year, he finished in last place for defensemen. He takes stupid penalties all the time, and piches in at the wrong times and gets caught trying to play catch up. Notice how the Canucks have now started winning without him in the line up.

  145. Chorske says:

I live in NY these days, so no 110% for me. I have trouble with the show’s format anyway- it is often too shrill and hysterical- like a lobotomized, souped up version of “Politically Incorrect”.

The puckcasts on this site are more in line with what I look for in a sports program- they’re a great feature, by the way, one of my favourite things about this site, please keep up the awesome work.

This is the same team we have seen for the last 10 years with just more speed. Only on rare occassions does anyone want to pay the price to go in front of the net to score a goal on a rebound. The media keeps telling us how fast they are and what great skills some of these guys have but that means nothing if you are afraid to get close to the goal and bang home a rebound. Another 90 point season and we will be scrambling to get the 8th spot. Boring. We would be better off to be terrible for a few years and get a few real stars to build around instead of more average players who can really skate fast. LOL.

I was thinking they should make a Champions League of Hockey

It could be the winners of the 6 Divisions of the NHL and the Stanley Cup winner, with the winners of the Swiss, Russian, Swedish, Czech, Finnish.

If the Stanley Cup winner is a division top finisher, then the next best team points-wise gets the call.

It would add some international attraction to the game and spread the fan-base for hockey even more. Unlike the Soccer champions league that’s every 2 weeks for the whole year, they can just have an elimination tournament at the end of the year so it doesn’t last more than a week.

Anyone else think it’s a good idea?

  151. teamplayer says:

I believe in Europe they are working on a chanmpions league from all the top leagues – russia (i think). This also has to do with the winner of those teams gets to play a random nhl team. They want the stanley cup champions but the nhl isnt going for that. They are looking to start it after this season, heard lots of talk about it earlier on, havent heard much in awhile though

vote for markov, koivu, huet and kovalev for starting all-stars

  152. Wamsley01 says:

Even if the Leafs make a statement Montreal would have to no show to get blown out.
The Leafs are just not good enough. Weather the early storm and stay composed and they will be fine.

Worst case scenario, the Leafs blow them out and JFJ gets an extension in Toronto.

  157. showey47 says:

The only downfall to a habs victory is the fact that i think half of our work staff at purolator is made up of laff nation so there is gonna be alot of absents tomorrow and i will have to pick up their slack, but still worth it none the less.

  166. TheCharles says:

Ya it was pretty sad. This was my first NHL game in person (I was the only guy selling 50-50 tickets in a Habs jersey) and the ACC was pretty quiet. Me and some other Habs fans were joking as we were cashing out that you could tell when the Leafs score by the Horn. You can tell when the Habs score by the cheering.

Did anybody else notice that there were more Habs jerseys then Leafs jerseys in the ACC. It was actually pretty sad.

  167. Naila Jinnah says:

  173. Will Longlade says:

I noticed that the standings in both conferences are getting ex. tight. Only 8 points separate the 2nd place team from the 14th place team in the Eastern Conference and only 5 points separate the 3rd place team from the 14th place team in the Western Conference. It looks like 6 or 7 playoff spots are up for grabs in both conferences. Here’s to the Habs rising to the challenge.

  174. MannyP says:

I for one fan expect them to go to war for us and learn where there backbone is!, You can’t find your heart anywhere near your wallett.!!!!

  177. Moey says:

Ian, “best hockey fans in the world”, not quite the words I would use. Unique, obsessed, special, lunatics,…would more aptly describe us Habs’ fans.

  178. Cable Guy says:

We will be able to tell in the first 10 minutes whether we have a chance to win this tonight or not.

  179. DD says:

Quit the grousing, you bunch of pantywaists. We’re going to kick some loser butt tonight, and send JFJ on his merry way to manage some obscure two bit, beer league team in West Virginia or Transylvania. On second thought, that would probably be better than being the GM of the leafs.

  180. Bill says:

No big secret for the Habs, any game they win they do so by outworking their opponents, beating them to the puck, and getting strong goaltending. They lose whenever they’re outhustled, and the Leafs are one of the better teams for outhustling the Habs. Fingers crossed.

  181. McHabby says:

Are the Habs playing tonight? Are there teams outside Toronto in the NHL? You’d never know if you’re watching TSN.

  182. Bill says:

In all fairness, TSN does show a lot of Habs games nation-wide, and should be recognized for it.

  183. Bill says:

LOL … when the president of your hockey team says hiring you was “a mistake”, how can you NOT resign immediately? Clearly, Peddie wants JFJ to quit.

The Toronto Sun says that the Leafs “have stopped working” for Maurice. I don’t see it that way at all.

Things are tough for the two biggest teams in hockey, no?

  188. Habs-24-and-counting says:

Has anyone else noticed that the Habs this year seem to be trying a lower skill version of the Buffalo sabers line combinations from last year? We have a top two lines that seem pretty much equivalent in terms of skill and a third and fourth line that are hard to distinguish from one another. It seems to me that where Buffalo was often said to have four second lines we have 2 second lines and 2 third lines.

  189. Keith says:

My gut is so knotted up I think I may hurl. Every single game we have against these guys is always a MUST win for them. The whole laff turmoil is hilariously unbelievable in its drama and is overshadowing this game. We have to be ready for their intensity or we’re toast. GO HABS GO!!!

  190. McHabby says:

Yeah, I suppose. They’ve shown more Habs games than CBC has this season. But even the Buffalo Sabres broadcaster can say that.

  202. Ali says:

Carbo is already line shuffling, Dandenault is on the top line and Higgins is with Smolinski and Begin…

i really think all the heat he took for leaving Kovalev and Samsonov together for so long last year has now made him too scared to leave any combination that doesnt produce immediately together

  203. McHabby says:

The one knock on Carey Price? He hasn’t stolen a game. Well, he’s stealing this one so far.

  204. Jen says:

Isn’t Price 20 now? TSN keeps referring to the 19 year old rookie

  205. showey47 says:

i think dandy just stayed out long because they had sustained pressure around the net and higgins took dandy’s shift on smokes line.

  206. Bill says:

Yeah, well, he’s stolen periods before, you know. The knock on him – as you yourself stated – is he hasn’t stolen a GAME.

  207. 81frank says:

That’s not a shuffle. Dandenault got stuck in forecheck on the change so Higgins went out on the fourth line to balance it out.

  208. TommyB says:

Dave, I always enjoyed looking up…wayyyyyyy up! As I crawled into the big rocking chair. ;)

  209. showey47 says:

brisebois caught out of position again on a ryder giveaway, man hamrlik has been god-like so far this season, just think if he had a better partner. 16-6 shots on goal for the laffs, why do we play so pathetic against these clowns

  210. Mr Wonderful says:

We are getting killed on face-offs again tonight. It will come back to haunt us eventually. My kingdom for a Yanic Perrault clone.

  211. showey47 says:

  212. Wops says:

Hey guys, can’t watch the game.

Boone keeps telling how slow the Leafs are…

why the hell are shots 17-6 then ? outside shots?

  213. Michael N. says:

Not a bad first period, but not a good one also. Looks like it’s up to Toronto to win or loose this one

  214. Moey says:

It’s not just the face off problem, the passing has gone to hell in a hand basket. I agree with a previous poster, their best game this year was against Ottawa on a Saturday afternoon. I haven’t seen that caliber of play since by our boys. What gives??

  215. nightmare_49 says:

We got that creep Dean Warren in the zebra suit again.

  216. howtathor says:

As advertised 16-6 shot differential. Thank goodness for Price who makes em all look routine (even when he doesn’t see them). Let’s hope we can get it going in the second and start to pressure the Leaf’s D-men. The Leafs seem to have been watching the Buffalo films. We’re having trouble on our breakout which looks like deja vu all over again! But the Leafs are no Sabres and sooner or later their shortcomings will become evident. Keep it up guys, some nice work in the offensive zone…the goals will come!

  217. 81frank says:

Is it me or is the ice in horrible condition tonight? I guess with that kind of team you want to level the playing field if you’re the leafs.

  218. Keith says:

I had to switch to RDS, I couldn’t stand Healy’s moronic diatribe about the laffs. Price has kept us in this game. At least there has been a flow to the game and not a constant parade to the penalty box. We need to step it up a knotch or two because I think this is all the laffs have. We are a better team than them. Keep the faith. We NEED that first goal tonight…and a W would’t hurt neither. GO HABS GO!!!

  219. showey47 says:

habs 5-12 in the faceoff circle terrible again. Sundin is 86% and we got outshot badly, it all starts with puck posession. See the pattern

  220. 24 Cups says:

Is Kovalev any good at taking faceoffs? He can’t be much worse than Pleks.

  221. Bill says:

    Not Tucker. That !$#@#!$!!!

  222. showey47 says:

saw that coming a mile away, what a weak play by streit

  223. the_vipah says:

Uhhg flukey bounce, like usual, crap goal.

  224. Ali says:

like i said, Mark Streit needs a game or two off, he’s either tired, people have figured him out.

  225. MAB the HAB says:

    Darcy F Tucker. Detestable.
We are not here to resurrect scoreless droughts nor winless streaks. Someone please send the Habs the memo.

  226. Kevin says:

why isnt kovy on the 1st pp unit????????????????

  227. Bill says:

Carbonneau has to get these guys settled down. They’re not this bad. They’ve played tight for the past 10 games, for God’s sake. RELAX and make the patient play. Why are they panicking? The Leafs are not a smart team … all you have to do is nail your assignments (unlike Streit on that Tucker goal) and wait for your chance. The Habs are playing as though they are matched against the 1977 Canadiens with their lives on the line. It’s the 2007 Leafs with ZILCH on the line. CHILL, Habs!

  228. Bill says:

    There ya go, Habs!

  229. the_vipah says:

Luckily you dont even have to try against the leafs.

  230. Ali says:

ah, thats the kovalev-markov bread and butter play…beautiful to watch

  231. showey47 says:

woohoo kovy, at least markov can still play the point on the powerplay, streit is killing us

  232. the_vipah says:

Man alot of lucky bounces just following the Leafs around tonight.

  233. Moey says:

THe commentating on TSN is giving me a massive headache. It’s terrible.

  234. Fagstein says:

Oh for crying out loud, did someone coat our sticks with vaseline by mistake? Horrible turnovers in front of our net.

  235. the_vipah says:

    Wow another brutal goal.

  236. showey47 says:

    absolutely brutal, chad kilger

  237. Bill says:

LOL, nice defence! What the hell? Get that back IMMEDIATELY!!!!

  238. Mr Wonderful says:

Former Habs 2 Current Habs 1

fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.
    Sir Winston Churchill

  239. Bill says:

    There ya go, Habs!

  240. Ali says:

that was all Saku…what a captain!

  241. the_vipah says:

You just need to think on scoring on the Leafs and bang, in it goes.

  242. Fagstein says:

Four goals in five minutes… this game’s getting interesting all of a sudden.

  243. Bill says:

Now SETTLE. Price, stand up and do something. Play calmly.

  244. showey47 says:

lucky goal, but we will take it. Man, our d’corp is looking the laffs D look like hall of famers

  245. MAB the HAB says:

Ok, this is cardiac! But nothing like cutting any momentum the laffs may get. And the 1st line shake-up pays off…for now.
    Sweeeeeet.

  246. Ibleedbleublancetrouge. says:

I’m sorry… I don’t know what to say. That was- Was that? noooo….

  247. 24 Cups says:

    assisted by Komisarek & Markov

  248. Yeats says:

Hey, I just got an email from Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. They saw my resume on Monster and want me to come up there and drive one of the two Zambonis. Damn it gang, I’m going to the show!

  249. McHabby says:

Chad Kilger splits the D and scores? How the hell does that happen?

Good response. Last game of last season V 2.0?

  250. Keith says:

This game is going to give me a coronary!

  251. roadrunner says:

    two ex habs…cover the slot

  252. ganderhab says:

Not only is Smolinski not an upgrade on Bonk, he is not as good as Mike Johnson. Thank God for one year deals

  253. Bill says:

White, you PANSY. Looks like he got shot. KILL this thing, Habs.

  254. showey47 says:

we win the draw and yet the puck doesn’t get out, we have dodged way too many bullets already tonight . and did white ever sell that high stick

  255. Forlando says:

How can the Habs pass so badly against a slow team like the Leafs????

P.S. About Ryder: his biggest problem is not that he can’t score…anybody in the NHL…and probalby in junior leagues…can take the puck away from him…he is abysmal in the 1 vs. 1

  256. Bill says:

Time for Captain K to make a statement. Score one, Habs!

  257. Bill says:

Okay, I can’t follow the posts at all. They refresh in a seemingly random order?

  258. showey47 says:

koivu wins the draw clean against sundin in our own end and for some reason we can’t break out and the laffs are all over us

  259. Bill says:

Habs, stop playing so SCARED!! Get it out, and generate a chance!

  260. Bill says:

Yes, just like that. Repeat it. And NO dumb penalties.

  261. showey47 says:

great chance by the smokes line, all started with a faceoff win 2 good passes, a great dump and chase and a pass in the front of the net

  262. Bill says:

It’s Leaf rush after Leaf rush. No good. Have to start your own rushes, Habs.

  263. Bill says:

    ANOTHER late icing, %#$#!#!!

    Get it out.

  264. Bill says:

This is it, Dagger to the heart. Score on the PP, Habs!

  265. showey47 says:

Nicole antroflop tries to draw one on our captain, he has done this in the past

  266. showey47 says:

wow ryder looks like a man possessed out there, and gets a nice shot from the slot. This is what he needs to do

  267. Bill says:

    SMOLINSKI?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  268. Sbah Reverof says:

Will somebody please get Glen Healy a Leafs cheerleader uniform, and get him off the air?

  269. moser17 says:

Price handles the puck very, very well.

In fact, it’s notably eerie the way I *don’t* get nervous every time he leaves the net and plays the puck: even Roy and Brodeur don’t have that affect.

Price could freeze fire. The future looks (calmly) promising.

  270. showey47 says:

all i can say is thank god for rds

  271. Bill says:

    Watch RDS, brother.

  272. Kevin says:

Koivu and Kovalev need to play on the same PP unit!!! If they’re not on the ice together to start the 3rd period I might have to scream.

  273. moser17 says:

I still say we put him in tartan and give him a bagpipe so he can really commit to that “Lochness Monster” bit he’s so proud of.

  274. Wops says:

Well yvon and pierre are not that better.
Yvon is not an analyst, he just re-describes the play.

+ there is not enough game sound on RDS

  275. howtathor says:

We’re losing too many puck battles in our own zone and in their’s. Our passes to noone in particular are giving the Leafs a free pass into our zone. 5 on 3 bodes well to start the third period. If can bag one here and then force the Leafs to play OUR game we’ll win!

  276. showey47 says:

Habs better capitalize on this 2 man advantage cause we have all seen this story before where habs have a powerplay and the laffs get the weak even up calls, especially in their own building

  277. showey47 says:

Habs better capitalize on this 2 man advantage cause we have all seen this story before where habs have a powerplay and the laffs get the weak even up calls, especially in their own building

  278. Keith says:

Koivu is answering Guy’s comment tonight. He didn’t beat the big C for nothing. We are having a tough time getting out of our own zone tonight against the big laff goons. I knew it was only a matter of time before they would start taking penalties against us. Time to pot one with the 5 on 3.

  279. The Teacher says:

    NOT ENOUGH GAME SOUND…thank you!

  280. roadrunner says:

Ryders biggest problem is his stick is to long. Better on faceoffs in the second. Couple of PP goals to start the third would realy get the crowd into the game wouldn`t it?

  281. MannyP says:

Did anybody see how angry and frustrated Koivu was, early in the second period, coming back to the bench during a Leafs penalty? His next shift, the whole line was firing on all cylinders. Plekanec’s next shift? He shoulders a Leafs defenseman down onto the ice, on all fours. How often have we seen that? The Habs eventually tied the game. Koivu must’ve said something on the bench. The team was playing with more passion, from that point on.

  282. Dougie says:

TSN obviously stands for Toronto Sports Network. Worse than Cherry.

  283. 24 Cups says:

It’s Ryder’s destiny to score in the third period.

  284. Wops says:

Yeah seriously, it is so boring watching a game on RDS.

No sound, Pierre has no emotion, and plus you get frustrated at Yvon…not a good trio…

  285. Deano says:

    Toscala overplays everything
    Cross crease equals goals

  286. Kevin says:

    Kovalev!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Koivu/Kovy worked :)

  287. the_vipah says:

Cherry does not make any excuses he admits his allegiance, TSN pretends otherwise.

  288. roadrunner says:

    one helps

  289. sidhu says:

Nice pass Smoke! Kovy looks so calm on that right side

  290. moser17 says:

I saw that. A TSN camera showed him baring his teeth and SCOOOOOOORRRREE!!!!!!!!!!!! KOVALEV HAS COME BACK TO LIFE!! …. and smashing his stick against the lip of the boards. That’s rare to see, of Koivu; and you’re right, the next shift they were workhorses.

  291. Cable Guy says:

I hate to say it but we will be hard pressed to win tonight. We must come out skating and hitting hard.

  292. leafs67_andcounting says:

I posted on the other thread, but I pretty much agree with you Mike.

  293. J.T. says:

No…they traded away their 2007 first and second picks and their 2009 fourth-rounder for Toscala and Bell. San Jose flipped the Toronto first and their own second to St.Louis and picked Logan Couture at ninth. The Blues used the Toronto pick at thirteenth overall to take Lars Eller. The leafs got to keep Toscala and Bell. Right now, they still have their first pick for this season, so let’s hope they don’t suck bad enough to land a lottery chance at Stamkos. That guy could “Sundin” us for the next twenty years.

  294. Bill says:

    BULLSHIT. Kill it.

  295. the_vipah says:

    Yawn, brutal makeup call.

  296. RiverviewCanadien says:

I hope the changes to the lines are for the best (I think they are good). I really liked Latendresse last year, but this year I just feel his skating is lacking, so he may have a hard time keeping up with Koivu and Higgins. He can be great, he is physical, he can setup plays, so I hope he is always in front of the net tonight getting some good screens in and maybe some rebounds. We need people in front of the net, or around the net at least, we can’t always wait for the “pretty shot from the point”. Ryder on the 4th is funny, he is better than that so I hope he takes this as a wakeup call, as we now have a scorer on the 4th line…show us Ryder!!! I like our chances, I like the team this year, I just hope we don’t have to rely on the AHL again, even though I think little Kostitsyn should be up in Montreal…

Keep your sticks on the ice and get a win Montreal…

  297. Deano says:

    That was so weak …

  298. sidhu says:

Put Dandy back on the blueline – a team that’s struggling on offense doesn’t need to dress 7 D

  299. moser17 says:

I still haven’t found myself able to forgive him for scoring on Huet with his own arse in the series against Carolina.

  300. ganderhab says:

markov deserves to all star – Streit has hit the wall

  301. Bill says:

If they’re just going to even up this call later on, I’d prefer that the refs put their whistles in their pockets and went straight to hell.

  302. moser17 says:

If this PP is going to stay at the top of the league I think Price will have to start skating into the offensive zone.

  303. Kevin says:

Why does Carbo go back to playing his regular lines on the PP??? he knows its struggling…….

  304. Keith says:

Come on now Habs rolling 4 lines starts to pay off this late in the game. You can see we are starting to look faster than the laffs.

  305. JLa30 says:

Let’s not forget, this is also a must win for the Habs. Our team is 5-5-0 in their last 10 games and let’s face it, the last 2 games weren’t too pretty. I’m confident we can smoke the Lafs out of the ACC.

Boone, LOVE the Dear Santa! : D

  306. the_vipah says:

Theres that brutal make up call we all knew was coming.
