But man, it was not easy.
Ottawa came alive to dominate the third period.
But the Canadiens hung on to win 2-1.
And they’re finally at .500
PRE-GAME AUDIO: Mike Cammalleri | Jacques Martin | Craig Anderson | Chris Neil on new linemate | Kasper Daugavins | Paul MacLean

When is Gomer returning? Did he travel with the Club? Anybody?
Never, I hope!
Martin will juggle the lines as he did last season to get Gomez going. We all know how dat turned out!

Friday night or no one has anything to b*tch about?? Where are all the experts?
I thought Gomez looked good tonight. I liked the part where he didn’t play.

We had 2 great periods..
last period.. well.. rookie Diaz mistake to go after the puck when there was only a few secs left on their PP..
after that JM pressed the collapse button.. which instantaneously continues Sens momentum..
but we won so.. happy dance.. (plus top 5 again in our fantasy pool.. hehe.. )
keeping Cammy out of PK duty is a smart thing(bout time).. not that i think Cammy isnt defensively sound.. but id rather have him press his offensive game..
Gio though smaller then Cammy.. has better stamina and experience in the PK unit.. (still think they use someone else for Gio though.. Darche/Blunden?)
Wonder what Pierre McGuire (and other so called hockey anals) thinks about Eller now..
4th 3rd liner my A55..
yes yes still has to prove he can play the whole yr.. blah blah
Subban.. you need to remember the way u play the game will draw the eyes of the men in stripes..
Cole just getting better.. and AK earning his pay..
Carey.. i love the “not Cool Carey”
another solid game.. kept his stick play simple..
he played as the Goalie not as a Forward
Well that game can only be described as Gomezlessly great. A few Gomezlike gaffs from PK and Diaz but apart from that not to shabby.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Gomez is awesome!
when he’s not playing…
He is an inspiration.
Tomorrow against the Rangers – we have the better team – all we have to do is play like we have the better team – and we’ll come away with the 2-points.
we played good enough to squeak one out tonight.
Kuba and Karlsson were each only minus 2 tonight and not minus 4 as I had predicted. I was wrong.
Edit: Kuba was only minus one. He’ll save the game tape for his kids.

At this pace we should pass the Leafs by…..next Saturday!!!
Wtf? The Ottawa station’s three stars:
Cole
Anderson
Neil
Fun game for 2 periods and a bit. Cole seems to get bigger every game — in size and personality. Great chemistry developing between him and Cammy. Same goes for Sergei and Eller. Now if we could only stop reverting to the prevent defence.
I mean Andrei. Mind you, Sergei would be nice.
Excellent points. That was the most enthusiasm I’ve seen from Cole and Cammy together this year.
Luongo loses again…..and we worry about Gomez?? VAN’s window to win it all will close long before Lu’s contract becomes a large cap problem. Our window is after Gomez is done.
These long term contracts are great for players and a total handicap for the franchises, why they keep getting handed out is beyond me.
Supply and demand i guess.
Hey- It’s “Lalongo” don’t you know?

Good effort considering so long since last game. Sens came on in the 3rd but was it b/c Habs stopped forcing the play?? I think JM has a new “less trap” system this year but it reared it’s fugly head after Sens goal. Gotta keep pressuring the opposition…..got skill, speed, and more size this year. Cole has been real good as of late. I worry about PK….sophmore jinx or not, the kid has a lot to learn. He’s got the skills but still needs to mature. Good win and important 2 pts.

Very happy about the way Cole’s been playing of late, but wasn’t like most on here earlier in the season biatching about his ice time. JM said earlier that he wasn’t impressed with the way he played without the puck ( very important in the JM system ) and Cole said in an interview that he was adjusting to a different role on the forecheck in a different system where he has been used to being the first man in.

Great post!
I don’t get why they stopped forechecking? It’s a thing of beauty watching them when they do. It also leads to more and better chances to score.
I’m hoping it was just the layoff that kicked in and we’ll see the heavy forechecking once again tomorrow night.
crosses fingers
Also agree about PK. Maybe he needs to sit a game or two?

Welcome to the newer NHL: The National Headshot League.
I agree as well, but would defend the more defensive approach to the third by bearing in mind that tonight was the first of a back-to-back pair. Calculated risk to save their legs for tomorrow night, i’d guess.
I imagine the twisting and turning and stopping and changing direction involved in playing Kitty bar the door is just as tiring as forcing Ottawa to do all the above.
The boys were badly outplayed in the third period
This totally defensive play, designed to protect a 1 goal lead for an entire period, simply leaves their opponents in the offensive mode all the time. Anyone who plays knows that the opposition gets better and better when you hand the momentum over to them.
This strategy needs a serious rethink !!
It was so obvious.
I’m thinking that maybe it wasn’t so much the Habs sitting back and playing defensive as much as it was the Sens coming on and bringing the play to them like they’ve done in almost every game this year that they’ve been behind and a lot of times against good opposition and succeding. Usually they’ve scored 3 or 4 goals in the 3rd period while they were behind, but only got 1 on us on a mistake when on the PP, so I’m definitely not upset about the way the Habs played with the lead. The Sens are run and gun, the Habs held the fort. I think it looked scarier than it actually was.

Does Price get the game against the Rangers?
I don’t see why not.

JM said 2 days ago that Carey was starting against Ottawa and he would make a decision about who started against the Rangers after tonights game. Based on that and the way Carey played against Bodston in his last back to back, I’d be shocked if he doesn”t start tomorrow night. Carey and King Henrik sounds like a 2-1 ( maybe 1-0) shootout win to me.

Unfortunately, Tampa Bay and Buffalo both won their games.
But a win tomorrow would help us catch them!
25 before 14
I never knew we had new players suiting up for this game…
Who the F@@K is Spacik, Moin, and Gorgis?
You would think that SN would at least spell the player’s names correctly when running the starting line ups across the screen..Who did they have doing that job? Don Cherry?

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
Brutal commentary as well. Dennis Potvin, words cannot explain how bad he is. He makes Bob Cole look like the king of play by play announcers!!
He was terrible. I dont speak french but had to flip to the RDS feed a few times as he was hard to take.
Wish we could have flipped to RDS, but we were tape delayed. Never caught up to Live TV before the game was over. Even the interview with JM had an Ottawa spin on it!
its Sensnet..I mean sportsnet..not surprised they had 2 stars in a losing game….surprised they don’t do that stupid hardest working sens..like on the team 1200 so they can get an extra one in there when they don’t deserve to be mentioned…
second place is just the first loser
the sportsnet local broadcasters are total homers.
Joe Bowen the Sportsnet Leaf play by play guy is over the top.
He does Leaf radio games and Leafs TV games so he’s on the Leaf payroll

How he managed to get into Cornell remains one of life’s mysteries….
WOW!….??????
Marc Andre Bergeron just won the game in Tampa. What a season that kid is having so far. Good for him.
What kind of stupid comment is bashing the coach after winning against one of the hottest teams in the NHL…???
Simply IDIOTIC.
Great game boys… Great win, do it again tomorrow.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Is it just me, or is it hard to get excited about a game against the Rangers? A) Sure, original six, but who cares? and B) ever since the 5-0 comeback, every game against them has paled?
Who scored the game tying goal again?
bah, you’re quiet all night and THIS you respond to?!
im sitting in my manhattan hotel room pretty damn excited as i type this
I’ve never met a Rangers fan in real life.

SportsNet 3 Stars
1. Erik Cole – 1 Goal, 3 Hits
2. Craig Anderson – 24 Saves
3. Chris Neil – 3 Shots, 2 Hits
What!? Chris Neil. Really?
I’m surprised Alfredsson didn’t get the first star…
Going to the game tomorrow night, just wondering, is there a way to find out what jersey the Rags will wear. Sometimes when these 2 teams play, they switch road/home jerseys.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
I guess Pothead missed the lame call with less than two minutes in the game….not surprised at his stupid comments that is typical of the sens homers…
second place is just the first loser
Did everyone see Cole give Price water out of the bottle at the end of the game? That was interesting.
I did, I wonder what that was about
Anyone else notice JM had Yannick Weber out there in the last minute toprotect the 1-goal lead. Seems the old coach is trusting the young defender.
so who sits when Marky returns?

Didn’t like the way we played the last period. Protecting the lead usually comes back to bite us in the arse.
They started trapping mid way through the 3rd. The 0-1-4. Dump and change. Maybe it was fatigue. Maybe it was psychological. Maybe it was a directive from the Alien over-lords. Whatever the cause the Sens were pressing but as long as the Habs fore-checked it was close. Once the Habs trapped, the Sens were increasing their chances and the Habs weren’t getting any.
The Habs have 12 points in 12 games and have won 4 straight. There is a tough month ahead but they have entered November strong.
I think their major strength or weakness will be their mental fortitude.
Denis Potvin, ” The Sens are down, not because of their play, not because of the Habs play, but because of the stripes”
Are you kidding me? hahah this guy is absolutely terible
Sens did what they had to do: Put the body to the Habs’ D and crowd Price. Diaz braincramped on his own, but the Sens responded appropriately.
Whine and complain all you want…..but it’s a W….
Saved by the bell….whew an important 2 points
Congratulations, Carey Vezina !!!

The shot at the end that showed about 1/2 the crowd in Habs sweaters, cheering for the win, should shame EVERY Sens fan out there.
It’s always like that when Montreal or Toronto come to play in Ottawa…it doesn’t really shame the Sens fans, there’s just too many Toronto/Montreal fans in the city for them to cope.
The Shame should stem from the poor number of season’s tickets they seem to sell. There shouldn’t be gazillions of seats for the opposition fans to get at all.

WE WIN!!!!!!!!
Hey, it worked.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
They play worse when they’re “protecting their lead”! I HATE when they play that way!
Did anyone else catch the chick behind the Habs bench mouth something and then “sleep with” during the timeout?
Oh well now they can ice the puck
Can’t believe that call… What a pile of s…….
Damn it!
This is the kind of hockey I hate seeing the Habs play. The Habs are holding on for dear life. Once they stopped skating forward and started standing still and skating backwards the ice has tilted in the Sens’ favour.
But they won.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
You make E1 sound like an interesting genius with a more clever sig.
Hangin’ on for dear life!
Standing and puck watching…..skate
