Canadiens spoil Jets party

Spacek-hit

Not exactly a warm welcome back to the NHL.
Down two starters, the Canadiens romp to a 5-1 win.
Three unanswered goals in the third period broke a tight game open.

After losing Jaro Spacek and Mike Cammalleri in the first period, the undermanned Canadiens rallied with opportunistic scoring.

Every goal was a highlight reel job, including a Travis Moen breakaway.

Before he got hurt, Cammalleri scored the Canadiens’ first goal of the season.

First PP goal was a Yannick Weber laser.

Carey Price made 30 saves. Don Cherry called him the best goaltender in the world … and he coached Gilles Gilbert.

And the PK pitched another shutout … including a 5-on-3.

  2. phillyhab says:

Can anyone else hear Don Cherry complain that we “ran up the score” in the home opener for the return of the Winnipeg Jets?

  3. LL says:

Big Buff is big, and nothing else tonight.

  4. Toe Blake says:

Watch JM’s face! I don’t think he is all that happy that Moen has gone off the reservation and is freelancing. I saw him tell Perry Pern that Habs have a “broken arrow!”

I don’t know why you’d ever want Byfuglien on your team. He is probably the dumbest hockey player in the NHL.

Perfect shot by Max Power — he needs that confidence.

  25. Jacques Martin helped Moen find the inner top 6 forward in him. It took 3 seasons but it has happened!

    lol jokes aside, beautiful goal!

  26. Bill says:

Haha I love Moen and I love that he scored that goal, but to whoever claimed otherwise below: his hands are definitely not underrated!

  27. Marc10 says:

Bad news for the Jets. Pricey is dialed in and the muckers are winning it for the Habs. What a game by the lunch pail gang. Take a bow grinders and pluggers! Take a bow!

Did Healy never use his blocker?

  49. Marc10 says:

DD has limitations, but he’s decent of faceoffs and a terrific passer on the PP with time and space.

I’d reward him with some time with Cole and MaxPac – two big wingers who need passes on the tape to get back into it. C’mon JM… Make it happen.

  50. Toe Blake says:

Well, the one thing about the injuries that I view as a positive is that a lot of guys are going to be thrown into the deep end of the pool. If management thought they are good enough to be Habs, they should be good enough to go now.

  51. slapshot777 says:

Simpson is a real piece of work, so is the whole CBC for that matter. Simpson calling for penalties agains tthe Habs and making no mention of the penatlies that the Jets should be getting.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  52. - Emelin, Diaz and Weber stepped up big time.
    – Price: EXCELLENT!

This looks like the beginning of a great rivalry, but next year aren’t Jets playing in the West?

  55. phillyhab says:

Fun third period! Martin must be furious.

  56. zak says:

It’s the refs that are taking the hitting out of the game

  57. Toe Blake says:

    DD has some heart!

  58. Peter Young says:

Canadiens management should make a complaint to NHL headquarters about the officiating on the Jets’ goal. That was practically a goaltender mugging in the crease. The Canadiens ought not to be meek about that gross noncall.

  59. Ali says:

getting our defense pounded into submission only two games into the year, and our captain gets run, but no, we don’t need to get tougher. But hey, at least we’re winning. And lets be honest, kane did us a favor on Spatches

  60. durocher says:

Emelin needs to rock a Jet crossing the blueline

  61. HardHabits says:

Habs have been really lucky with at least two calls tonight. Refereeing is very suspect.

  62. phillyhab says:

…and Weber earns a permanent spot on the PP.

  63. Jbird says:

Oh, Webber is not that bad. Oh. :-)

  64. Vid says:

Have to admit, Habs have been lucky with the penalty calls. Some missed calls that should’ve been called on habs and ones called on the Jets that shouldn’t have been like that last one.

  65. Sal says:

Yea Webber!! Tough shit Peggers! That’s what you deserve for cheap shotting Gionta!!

    Sal from the Hammer

  66. Trisomy 21 says:

DD can’t make anything happen on the PP. I’ve seen enough of him on the first PP unit.

  67. Toe Blake says:

Like seeing Pax go to the dangerous space in front of the net.

  68. Psycho29 says:

    VEBBAH!!!!

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

  69. TOEmastro says:

refs are killing the buzz in this barn, shame on them. I’m glad we’re winning but not like that

    Olé, olé, olé oleé

  70. durocher says:

Okay boys, beware of make-up calls!

  71. jo_maka says:

Boo-hoo on a cheap call ! Cry me a river. How many of those did we get ?
