The Canadiens battled the Bruins for 60 minutes.
And maybe the best is yet to come.
Though not necessarily this season.

I have been a Canadiens fan for over sixty years and for me, one of the great pleasures from my allegiance is that I get to participate (in a small way) in what I consider to be the greatest rivalry in North American sports – the Habs and the Bruins.
Great players – the Habs – Richard and Moore and Robinson and Dryden and Lafleur and the Bruins – Bucyk and Ratelle and Espo and Cheevers and Orr
Memorable moments that linger forever. Every regular season game is like a playoff game and every playoff game is like sudden death. I was “there” for Richard’s bloodied face goal against Henry, the Richard riot, Jonathan and Bouchard, bench clearing brawls, Cherry’s too many men on the ice, Lafleur’s PP goal and to complete the trifecta, Lambert’s overtime winner, Coach Cheevers chivalrously waving to coach Lemaire as his Habs eliminated the Bruins in the playoffs, Nilan and the Bruins bench, Komo and Lucic, Chara and Pacioretty and most recently, the width of Horton’s stick and then last night with Cammallieri.
Hockey, like life, has it cycles and right now the Bruins are dominant and to them, I tip my cap but who knows what the future will bring.
And hey, I get to double dip because I am also a huge Yankees fan so I get to “participate” in what I consider the second best rivalry – the Yankees and the BoSox.
Mark my words, trading Kerri Ramo – The Best Goalie in the World – will come back to bite us in the ass.

pffft, people said that about halak…
i like cammy and think he can be effective in the right situation but that situation wasnt in montreal. cammy was part of the problem, he is a fringe player which montreal has too many of. he refused to go to the dirty areas and montreal needs more players who will do that. bourque is a player who can fill that role and at the same time they shed some salary, pick up a decent looking prospect and a 2nd round pick. probably more trades to come…
man, dave bolland has looked very good as of late. hmmm plekanec? lol.
ill be in the slot
Good move Cammy one demensional, very good when scoring very bad when not. More moves on the way. Hopefully more grit and size, hard to do since PG is in a weak position, doesn’t look good.
The most important part of this for me is the interview with Gauthier where he publicly states that the team is too small. That they rely upon trying to score pretty goals. That’s why, to me, trading Cammalleri didn’t have to do with his “loser” comments. I liked Cammalleri, but if he isn’t scoring a wicked one-timer from the faceoff circle, he’s doing F-all. Too easy to play against.
Seems like a much needed change in team philosophy. Not goon hockey, but if you like Eric Cole, you might see more of it. Bourque is very similar.
That’s why I’m encouraged that more moves will be made with this philosophy in mind as we still have an abundance of skilled players that lose the puck battles. Don’t have the puck, can’t make pretty plays.
Just sad to see the way this was handled. yes mgmt. was PO with Cammy’s comments yesterday. But to hang him out and embarass him this way on National TV and the Team was totally classless. Then to top it off by saying the deal had been in the works for 6 wks. Gimme a break….how stupid do we look PG? Honestly, You pulled your other 2 big moves on Game Day before the game….why couldn’t you have done the trade the same way? Was this you just rubbing a little salt into the wound? Pity you your time is coming soon …AssClown

well jay feaster said the same thing, that they had been talking for some time….

I think we would have gotten more if it was at the trade deadline. I hope it’s not another kneejerk trade that we are famous for making. We definitely could have gotten more if we waited, although I don’t think we got fleeced, even if Cammelleri becomes a 40goal scorer playing with Iginla, good for him but he wasn’t going to do it in Montreal. If he had a better season, maybe we would get a 1st rounder, but even the 2nd rounder isn’t bad, I think it’ll be pretty high, Calgary is aging and going nowhere fast. Now the players that might get moved are Moen, AK, Gill, Kaberle although I hope we keep Moen and AK unless someone is willing to offer a lot for them.
Finally, on the timing of Cammy’s trade, maybe they wouldn’t have pulled him if it wasn’t against the Bruins, they do injure a lot of players… I’d speculate that basing on Cammy’s comment, he probably wasn’t getting along with certain players and coaches on the team and management had to take a side. If it was just Cunney, management already tossed him under the bus once, what’s one more time, but maybe it’ll set a bad example to the young players. On the player side, I can’t imagine players like Georges, Gionta, Cole, Price not giving their all in every shift, they certainly seem like they are trying hard. Gomez is injured. Any rookie would just have been benched, so I think maybe it has something to do with Pleks, who has been struggling, had just got into it with PK and Pleks really doesn’t seem like he’s having any fun this year. Just pure conjecture but seemed like PG wanted to trade him in a hurry.
Finally, if Bourque is a big guy, with Gionta’s injury and Cammy’s trade our top 9 are getting pretty big, we are smurfs no longer! Maybe he can play on Plek’s wing, seems like he likes to shoot the puck. Here’s to hoping the guy finds his inner Cole!
As long as Bourque in a habs uni can consus somebody all is good, right?? Idiots!
Comment of the night, from Timo. In response to a poster saying we should have gotten a 1st round pick from Calgary instead of a 2nd, Timo writes:
“The only GM who would give your 1st pick for Cammalleri is Bob Gainey. And he is (sadly) still employed by the Habs. I am relieved that we didn’t give up a 1st pick on Bobo’s advice in this trade.”
isnt bourque suspended still?
Yes, for one more game.
OK, hear me out…We trade Cammy for Bourque, a decent prospect, and a 2nd rounder…Sure, you can see the obvious that it makes us bigger and all that jazz, but lets talk about the pick..
Let’s just say we finish in the bottom 5 of the league this year and are awarded a top 5 pick…that 2nd rounder may pay off huge dividends in moving up to the top 3 and getting a real franchise type of guy like Yakupov or a Gregierenko..
——————
Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?
We should really just get MAB back.
2nd round pick is for 2013
It’s still a good bargaining chip
Pierre Rejean Milbury Gauthier has to go!
Is Geoff Molson really this stupid???
This organization treats its fans like idiots, we all know what we want in a hockey team, how come they don’t???
Loved Cammalleri but this is hockey and he got traded BUT all we get is a slowfooted oft-suspended malcontent that Kelly Hrudey blasted on HNIC in November as being selfish and needing to apologize to his teammates????
Trades for Tomas Son of Mr. Bean Kaberle…
Re-signs Andrei Marksoft for millions…
Sacks the assistant coach before the head coach….
Au secours, au secours! Tabarnacle!

Bourque looks like he’s in shock. TSN has a video clip of his trade reaction
He looks devastated and almost seemed to get emotional. Hopefully he contributes and feels welcome in Montreal.
Well… he is a back country roughneck albertan playing in his home province being sent to the zoo called Montreal Canadiens. You’d be devastated too.
He doesn’t want to come here, no player wants to come here.

no, playing montreal doesnt look very appealing to hockey players these days, thanks to the media and some of the idiotic fans.

3.66 mill freed up in cap space? good!
A second round pick upgraded from a 5th? good!
How this was dealt with… I hate it. I’ve never seen a man pulled from the game and it looks worse after his comments yesterday, which btw was nothing to complain about.
Concerns me that Gil has no comment… I have to wonder how others view this organization because I know Cammy loved it, and I don’t imagine he or RC view it the same anymore.
After the trade my buddy called Rene Bourque a Super-Moen but with a mean streak.
Update TSN interview with Cammalleri at the Boston hotel after hearing the trade (see this before you make a comment!):
http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/clip600293#clip600293
Haven’t written anything here for the longest time, but seeing this during the game is a huge shock!
Really like Cammalleri and been part of a great playoff year with Halak against those two best Eastern teams then.
And so, its kinda sad to see Cammalleri go, but it is all business, and the team must need something to boost up. He won’t get a lot of goals this season but he will soon play with a lot of heart, that is when he’s on the better team.
Very thanks and wish Cammalleri luck, but when we’ll welcome Bourque, we’ll hope he’s better efficient on the team than him.
After watching that, you would think PG is turning into Brian Burke 2.0 based on team philosophies… Sigh
Wow this year sucks.

Well I’ve had a SK74 Jersey and a MC13 Jersey, I think i should buy a Gomez jersey because apparently whenever I buy a jersey of a player, he is doomed to be traded……

Plz don’t get a Price jersey
i’ll pay for it if you gurantee he leaves.
Never put a number on a Habs jersey. (Unless it’s retired.)

Tanking- The Losers way of winning.
An organization as classy as its “fans” (see arena fight earlier in year). Montreal would be better off without NHL hockey IMO.
Don’t let the door hit u on the way out Because Fans are that depend w /ones u looking at
Once again everyone is speculating on limted info from a biased media looking for “hits”. Hockey people get what PG is saying……..everything else heard or said is BS. You’re interpretation of events is sku’d.
Thanks for clearing that up
The Habs are thinking that Cammalleri and his feeble production can be replaced by a younger more dynamic and hungry kid by the name of Gallagher next season. This kid can be as good as the aging Cammalleri within a couple of seasons, and stands a chance of making the big team next season. The trade is a good one for the Habs,we just can’t afford 6 million for 12-15 goals.Bourque’s size and grit will give the Habs some good overall size and swagger.Bourque, when he is on his game, is a Johan Franzen type player with a mean streak, and we sure can use some of that.

Rene Bourques Tweet: “I might be in trouble…I dont speak french even if I have the most french name on that team.”
Clearly, there is a very negative perception of montreal around the league right now, and it has nothing to do with the fact that we are losing.
This does not bode well for being able to sign free agents in the future, and not a very encouraging statement from an incoming player. Out of all the things he could have said, he chose that statement. Very telling.
I hated the trade (its rene bourque), than I thought about it and didnt mind it so much (we save cap space, added size, a prospect, and a 2nd round pick, cammy clearly lost his love for montreal), but after reading that tweet, its not very encouraging for this organization as a whole.
If this organization wants to return to respectability they have to take their focus away from appeasing the media and protectionists, and put the focus on winning. 200 people protested in front of the bell center over the french language crap, not 20000. More people showed up to rally for kovalev for god sakes! Gauthier needs to go and Molson needs to step up and put a stop to this whole french language BS before he alienates all the fans, not just the french language protectionists.
My how this organization has fallen fast. Very difficult time to be a fan.
First step: Get rid of Cunneyworth. The guy will probably be a great coach one day, but my god is he being mistreated right now. I feel terrible for the guy. Hire Patrick Roy, hire bob hartley, re-hire Guy Carbonneau… I dont care, just spare cunneyworth of this unbelieveable embarassment, he deserves better.
Nailed it.

“My how this organization has fallen fast. Very difficult time to be a fan.”
….did you just wake up from a 20 year coma?
you know bourque was joking when he said i might be in trouble i dont speak french. he was joking around, he went on to say if there were one other team he would want to play for its montreal.
Boom baby!
When Cammy was on, he was on. I loved every second of it. When he was off, which was more often than not, it infuriated me.
I remember watching him in the D zone, players skating around him and no effort whatsoever to even try to pokecheck the guy. It was like he didn’t give a crap.
In the end, I wish him well in Calgary.

IMHO this IS a good trade and I don’t thing Gainey had anything to do with it. This signals the beginning of the end of the smurfs experiment. Watch Gomez get sent to the minors as soon as he’s back
Where did Boone go?
Hard for some to accept that things change.

I persoanlly hope they make more moves, Id trade anyone really with emphasis on plekanec becuase I think hes over rated.
,!,, ,,!,
Two tall cans for ya!
Shhh, you can’t say that about Plekanec here, they will crucify you!
For some reason they like overpaid European centers who can’t win big faceoffs and play like little girls in the playoffs

He is a wuss.
think he knows he in jepoardy too, DD, ELLER, GOMEZ, PLeks, too many centers and not a true bonfied number 1.
I respect your opinion.
I don’t agree whatsoever with it, let’s just leave it at that.
Give me an F’n break all of you!
Trade plekanec…how ridiculous can you people be?
Drafted and developed by the organization. Our leading penalty killer, and our leading scorer last season. Keeps his mouth shut, plays with whatever plugger the coach decides to put with him. Hes the first one to come out and take responsibility when he isnt playing well unlike Cammy (canadian) who puts the blame on everyone else but himself.
SHould the ducks trade getzlaf cause hes having a bad season?!
Heck, Plekanec has more points than getzlaf this year!
+1
The only logic behind the trade Plekanec meme is that he is one of only 3 or 4 players for whom you could get a really high end player in return
“Et le but!”
I’ve never been so conflicted by a trade….. and I wonder what my Cammalleri jersey will sell for….
Also I’ve never seen a player traded during or shortly after a game… the MTL office must be on some strong drugs or something….

The trade had to have been agreed upon during the game. League policy dictates that once a player is traded he can no longer play with the team that traded him.
how was cammaleri a probem in the locker? were you there, or is this based on those blown out comments from 2 days ago?
people need to give CAM a break , and remember he was an FA who signed in MTL and wanted to play for us, he scored 13 goals in the playoffs. and this is how you replay him, by cutting him up?
feel bad for him, wish him well, and hope to God Rene bourque can come from calgary and score 30 something cammy could not do.
You cut up my team publicly, my coach, Play terrible hockey, get paid 6 million and expect me to support you and feel bad?
He knew what he was getting into. Signed a fat contract, rolling in the dough right now. Feel bad?
No. I feel great knowing he is gone while picking up a player that WILL sacrifice his body. Nothing personal against Cammalleri, I don’t owe him anything.
did you always hate cammalleri or is this a newly found recent disgust?
More so lately.
Him as a player and the amount he gets paid to play a game. He has no worries financially. Good for him. Glad you are gone from the team I cheer for.
I think the comments by the mdia were blown up, did ou see the interview? he didnt disrespect the coach, it was twisted to make him sound like that. I think he was good for us, I wish I would have seen more, but all the bashing I think is a bit far fetched.
Are you kidding? Pleks makes comments about players demanding ice time a few days ago, and than you have cammy complaining about his ice time. You dont have to be sherlock holmes to deduce that one. Cammy wasnt getting the job done. Other than those 13 goals in the playoffs he never lived up to that contract that we so generously gave him.
Teams dont trade players for no reason, obviously there was more to this cammy story than just his comments to the media the other day.
Hes also know as an egomaniac. Did you watch any games this year? Did you appreciate his complete and utter lack of effort all season long? Maybe if he actually did what hes paid to do the habs wouldnt be struggling so much.
Even if we luck out with this trade, do you guys think it creates the impression of a great “master plan” that will in due course lead us to the Cup?
To me it brings back echos of the knee jerk Roy trade, though of course not to the same degree.
I like that we are getting bigger and tougher, but do you guys see the wisdom and vision of a Sam Pollock or even Serge Savard in this move?
It kind of scares me, actually (not that I wasn’t already terrified for our future).
Cammalleri is FAR, FAR, FAR from Roy. You lost me there, really quick.
I have zero faith in this management group. Admittedly Gauthier got a good signing in Cole and I do like this trade. But beyond that I would say that I only hope there isn’t another one of Bobo’s famous 5 year plans.
Think about this, if we traded for a better younger player, it wouldn’t happen magically because Cammallieri has been awful the past 2 years, wed likely have to give up a 1st or 2nd ourselves or more in which everyone would be saying “I thought we were rebuilding, why are we trading picks away,” so it’s a lose-lose for Gauthier, but for what it’s worth I think it was a good move.
We getting bigger and grittier compare to ours 3 and 4 line and we need it, Blunden anyone ???
You people are crazy. The trade breaks down like this:
Getting bigger is good. Having money to sign Price, Subban, Eller is good. I believe Gauthier has shown all of us what he can do with a second round pick (Wiz). Good.
Skill. We lose, but guess what, we have skill up to yinyang and it’s not working. Playoff performance, we lose big. But guess what, we’re not making the playoffs. The guy we dumped is not Koivu. He scored 19 goals last season and is on pace for 17 this year.
If Bourque can score 20+ goals / season and hit 40+ points, BOTH teams, in 2 DIFFERENT CONFERENCES win big.
“Let’s be clear on the facts…”
