But no joy in it.

Thoughts and prayers with Max Pacioretty

  5. Bill says:

Is it supposed to be reassuring that Campbell is at the game tonight? He’s probably only there so he and Claude can pass notes to each other.

Bruins: least penalized team in the NHL with a roster full of goons + Campbell’s son. Coincidence? Obviously not, and those emails simply confirmed that Campbell is corrupt and influencing the refereeing in favour of players and teams he likes.

Only a Mickey-Mouse league like Bettman’s NHL would allows this to happen. I can’t see it happening in the NFL or Premier League Football or at Wimbledon. Not without riots.

Speaking of riots, Montreal always enjoys a visit from Hab-hating NHL office types named Campbell, don’t they?

  6. Timo says:

Heh, i’d be ok if both Campbells left tonight’s game on a stretcher.

  7. Chorske says:

You think Hartnell would back down in front of White? Uh, no.

The only way to neutralize goons (as your precious Laraque found out the hard way) is to not retaliate, to play disciplined hockey, and instead focus on speed and skill. If the Bruins want to dance alone, let them.

Henry, Coboy and whoever the feck Bonno is are not NHL ready. But you would play one or more of these NHL-unproven guys against a bona-fide Stanley Cup contender that is deep in talent? Really?

The Rocket would never have bought into this nonsense. Don’t insult his legacy by invoking him.

Also, it’s fecking insulting the way you memorialize a simple hockey defeat in the same way one would the Polytechnique or 9/11. It’s stupid.

  8. Timo says:

Damnit… was hoping to skip out and wathc a game at the pub tonight so that I can curse and yell at will… Not happening. Wife’s got pilates class so I am home with the kiddo and hence have to be on my best behavior. Sigh… parenting sucks.

Bad news is sounds like he’ll go pretty high in the draft, maybe before the Habs can get him.

“You Sir, are out of your mind. What you’re suggesting the Habs do is exactly what the Bs want the most.”

Yes, he’s out of his mind, but not because it’s what the B’s want most. White will get DESTROYED by almost any of the tough B’s. And Mara – are you serious?

  12. SeriousFan09 says:

We also need some offensive support, especially at the LW position. Leblanc, Kristo and Avtsin are the only guys left in the system with very strong Top-6 upside (I’m still in Gallagher’s camp but he’s got a ways to go). Depends who BPA is on ’11 and ’12 draft days.

What a fraud these goalie ratings are:

The torch be yours to hold it high!

  14. RetroMikey says:

I disagree.  Where do you get your analysis of these 3 kids?

I was at the Hamilton-Toronto  back to back games this weekend and Avtsin, who was invisible in both games as he has been all season IMO.  A big strong kid like that should have more upside and he  has been disappointing.

Go to Copps like I do, and   speak to the hardcore fans who know more firsthand, and ask them who has upside on thas team and some will tell you that it is the veteran players who could play in Montreal and write it here on your blog.

Leblanc and Kristo are too early to rate them as as strong top 6 upside.  Gallagher reminds me of a Corey Locke, potential but just too small enough to make in at the next level in the NHL.

  16. HabinVan says:

Thomas Price Renne and luongo 1-4.  How Price falls behind carl crawford (isnt he a baseball player?) is beyond me.  For some more funny reading look at the centers.  they have Henrik Sedin #9..I Live in Van so I am forced to watch everygame and he is top 3 for sure.  But I guess these are jsut for us to kick around and debate and it brings tsn word of mouth for how absurd the rankngs are!

  18. Bill says:

    Sweep the leg Johnny!

Kidding, I just want the Habs to win. I’m bracing for an absolute barrage of penalties against and uncalled goonery against.

Forgot to mention that if McCreary is the NHL’s best, that is the definition of damning with faint praise. I was at the Carolina/Habs game he called and it was the same old thing: Habs called for everything, Canes barely anything.

    Corey Crawford lol

You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku

  20. Bill says:

It’s great that in this boring, watered-down league, there are still a couple of teams who actually dislike each other and get up for the games against each other in a special way.

And it’s great for us as fans to have an enemy team we can really despise. Go watch the ice-chips video on and see if it doesn’t really tick you off. It’s irrational because we’re completely uninvolved, but it’s so fun and satisfying.

Milan Lucik: “We’re not gonna go out of our way to be stupid”. Think about that very funny sentence for a second.

  21. JonoPEI says:

I thought the same about Crawford until I looked at this win-loss record.  Price is 31-21-6, and while he’s been our MVP, that’s still a lot of losses.   Crawford is 26-12-3 which is statistically better winning % and his GAA is better.   I think Price is a better goalie, but these ratings are done on stats, where Crawford, and 4 other goalies have better numbers.

I’ve never been there personally, but I have it on very good authority that the place to go is called Kilgour’s on Bloor, west of Spadina. I’ve heard that it’s owned by a huge Habs fan and that he has every game on the screens. Good luck.

  27. sims says:

  28. kempie says:

    Inglewood Jack!

    What would Jules do?

  29. New says:

I suspect “not” to the mayhem tonite. The Bruins lost the following three games and the Canadiens lost I think 4 of their next five. It was an important game. 24 Mar 11, if the standings look solid, is when Julien will tell the boys to send the message.

  30. Shiloh says:

Take the Bloor subway to Spadina – short walk a couple of blocks west after the stop. Or go to Bathurst and come back a couple of blocks east. Watched many a game there. Tuesday night is wings – very good and very reasonably priced. There’s a seat from the old Forum in there as well – neat place.

  31. Abe68 says:
A Montreal Canadian’s fan lie sounds like this: “We don’t need to goon things up to win hockey games”.
If they’re players, like this: “Revenge is winning” – Hal Gill.
Perhaps the only honest Hab, was Chris Nilan, commenting on the Boston/Montreal fiasco: “It was despicable. Hall Gill should be ashamed… embarrassed. It’s sickening”.

  32. ZepFan2 says:

A bruins stanley cup = winning a series against the Habs.

Btw, what’s it like to choke after being up 3 games to none, only to lose in the 7th game after, once again, leading by three?

Cute, but like Nilan, I’m a Montreal fan. I’m just sick of all the pansy commentators trying to justify, what might have been, the most embarassing moment in Les Habs history.

  34. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

Milan Lucic extols the B’s offense and team toughness on Feb. 9 and says they’ll, “have to do both again on Tuesday”

did you hear that Hab folks… MASSACRE II is coming up tonight…do you need any other warning???

    this is WAR.

but thank the heavens that MARTIN went with his gut instinct and inserted some NAG North American Grit into the lineup, just unfortunate that it takes a MASSACRE before he realizes what we need. Thank God that WHITE is in over Pyatt. White is one heck of a tough kid, hard nosed that will go anywhere, no faceshield, long hair toughness, and on many after the whistle scrums, when a “Hartnell” type would look up and see its White, they back down, because White has been there.. that is the key, being a hardnosed player through the system, not an over abundance of finesse players, really unimaginable that with our top 6 being all finesse, that Martin would load the bottom six the same way… but its changing, by necessity.

Same deal with MARA, massive improvement in the GRIT scale over WEBER…

we have just gained over 100lbs of muscle, over 18″ of height and a truckload of GRIT… and its going to make a difference tonight.

Having one of : HENRY/CONBOY/BONNO on the 4th line would have been the icing on the cake for this match, but Martin is a bit fearful… Dick Irvin would have done it.

anyway, make no mistake, this game will define our playoff run.

lets hope for the best…. AND LETS BREAK THEIR BLOODY FACES AS WELL…… the ROCKET WOULD….

1:The N.A.G.S. (North American Grit Speed) Youth Movement will bring us respect. 2: 02/09/11 never forget the massacre 3. up WHITE/SHULTZ/HENRY/PAX now.

  35. kempie says:

You Sir, are out of your mind. What you’re suggesting the Habs do is exactly what the Bs want the most. Martin is too smart and way too experienced to play into this Micky Mouse play. MASSACRE II is not going to happen. We’re going to get a passionate, fast, possibly fairly chippy, playoff-style game. The MASSACRE II is a smokescreen.

  36. Propwash says:

Might win fights, but it’s guaranteed to lose the game.

  37. ZepFan2 says:

    Like who?

That noted “tough guy” Boychuck? How about the hero, Campbell?? Yeah, real “tough”guys.

Let’s see how tough Marchand really is.

All I want is the two points. If YOU were really a Habs fan, so would you!

Fan since ’71 (and wasn’t that a sweet win over the so-called Big, Bad Bruins!)

  40. Malreg says:

You’re allowed a maximum of 4 or 5 call-ups from the trade deadline until your AHL team finishes their season.  Do you think we should waste 3 of those call ups, and 2 points tonight, to call up Henry, Conboy, and Bonneau?

  41. ZepFan2 says:

I can prove you are NOT a Habs fan.

“A Montreal Canadian’s fan lie sounds like this”

It’s spelled, Canadiens. If you were a fan, you’d have known that.

  42. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

one callup , not three, but its a non-issue now, we got WHITE and MARA in,

WHITE in – PYATT out / MARA in – WEBER out…. thank God, we can all relax now…

    let the battle begin.

  43. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

yes I believe Hartnel would back down from White, and I believe that he would jump and sucker punch Pyatt.

I also KNOW what the Rocket did, and if he was in that Feb9th Game, it would have really been a Massacre.

whats insulting is how you show a wimpering disregard for the Feb 9th fiasco…

  44. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

no, you are mistaken…. what i am suggesting is we have the players who can respond, and thereby DIFFUSE such idiotic MASSACRES from happening… get it?

tonight we do, and it will be a much better game than Feb 9th.

  45. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

what you fail to accept, is the fact that by the insertion of WHITE & MARA, the repeat of the Feb 9th fiasco has been avoided…

  46. SLYDER says:

scott hartnell is 6’2 210 lbs – 54 career NHL fights

ryan white is 6’0 193 lbs – i cant find his career NHL fight stat, although i know he had at least one vs Ottawa

what is insulting is how little you understand about hockey

  47. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

you are missing the point, the bigger picture… we are a better team with WHITE and MARA in the lineup over PYATT and WEBBER, thats all… especially against teams that play a rough game,

its an MCA…. Martin Certified Move….

why are you against it? why are you undermining the Habs? you want them to get beat up again?

  48. SLYDER says:

you seem so certain that hartnell would back down from white….im all but certain that i’ve proven you wrong

update: i found two fights, White vs Lee (ottawa) and White vs Guerin (Pittsburgh), and it is my opinion he won both

  49. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

great, do you have the links?

  50. Chorske says:

Great. So I don’t need to watch the game then? Seeing as you already know the outome?

You fell into the trap, HP. Bruins goon it up last game, so Habs bulk up. Watch the Bruins play a clean, skilled game tonight. Watch Mara and White look lost. If either Mara or White play more than six minutes, I am a monkeys uncle. Seriously, I will put money on that. Tell you what- I am watching the game with James, Punkster, and Berkshire. If White plays more than four minutes in the first two periods, I will buy those boys a round. They’ll have you to thank. Not that it’s going to happen.

  51. Propwash says:

You guys at Hurleys? I can make it there in 15 minutes if I can come and crash the party…….

  52. SLYDER says:

    i just youtubed it sir

  53. G-Man says:

Ok Professor. Let’s have the Habs waste callups on players that can’t and won’t help you win so you can fulfill some UFC dream you have. And then what?

This is March. There is a lot of water that has to run under the bridge before we get to a game that will define “our playoff run.” Usually, that game occurs…during the playoffs. So, relax and enjoy the no-hitter tonight.

  54. thebigguy says:

For a team that’s beaten us only once in their last 9 efforts, there sure is a lot of moaning and groaning about the Big Bad Bruins. Every team we play tries to push us around. You’d think after the clawing of the last couple years, fans would be excited that we’re not going to have to clinch the playoffs on the last day of the season.

  55. Ayan_SB says:

What a great day for sports.

Arsenal vs Barcelona at 2:30pm (TSN2 and RDS)

Then of course Habs vs Bruins at 7:30pm.

  56. sidhu says:

According to TSN, Mara is in for Weber, and White in for Pyatt.

    Cammalleri- Plekanec – Halpern
    Pacioretty – Gomez – Gionta
    Kostitsyn – Eller – Moen
    White – Desharnais – Pouliot

    Hamrlik – Wisniewski
    Gill – Subban
    Sopel – Mara

  57. arcosenate says:

You know, the AK-ELLER-MOEN line wasn’t together for the last game against the Bruins. Be interesting to see how Martin plays them. Should put them up against the Bruins second line, they’re much bigger than the Bergeron line.  Or would it be better to go size on size against the Krecji line?  Thank God I’m not coaching…

  58. 21BIGGionta says:

  60. thebigguy says:

I wonder how long it takes for Martin to put Moen with Plekanec and Cammy. If there was ever a game to put Moen in the top 6 (and lets be honest, beyond taking faceoffs, Halpern is really interchangeable), this may be it.

  61. Propwash says:

    3-1 Habs.

  62. longtimehabsfan says:

Listening to Team990 today I’m finding it bizarre just how over hyped one game has become.  Never have I seen one regular season hockey game drawn so much analysis.  You would think the 8-6 game last month was on the level of the 2008 economic collapse, the JFK assassination or 9/11.

So, here comes the Super Bowl of regular season hockey games.  I wonder how much a 30 second commercial will be going for tonight.

like the lineup. keep going at em with speed, get in timmy t’s kitchen, knock em down in front of carey and let’s see what happens (i do miss darche for his holmstrom-like ability to stand in front, but we have what we have).

as if we all haven’t gotten worked up enough already, a reasonably calm and fine piece on

let’s welcome colin cambell with open arms and a round of molson ex… delivered by air…

  68. WarHero says:

Anyone playing GM mode in NHL11? If so, what year are you in and if you are using the Habs, what is your current line up?

    Here’s mine (2016/2017 – I think, lol):

1st: Taylor Hall – Anze Kopitar – Mike Cammalleri
2nd: Andrei Kositsyn – Lars Eller – Max Pac
3rd: Ryan Howse – Tomas Plekanec – Milan Lucic
4th: Travis Moen – Darryl Berkhole – Derek Boogaard

D1: PK Subban – Micheal Del Zotto
D2: Drew Doughty – Cody Ceci (Habs should actually look at this kid, will be avail in 2012, plays for the 67’s)
D3: Dylan Mclrath – Josh Georges

    Nets: Carey Price

All non-Habs were acquired through the draft (Howse, Ceci, Berkhole)  or trades (Hall, Kopitar, Boogaard, Doughty, Mclrath) or signed as FAs (Lucic, Del Zotto)

At long last all the bs being spewed out of Boston and Montreal radio will stop because “the game” is finally on.
I expect Montreal to take a 3 goal lead on a hapless Thomas and then Julien does what he does best: have his players goon it up.

Campbell should NOT be at the game tonight. In fact, he should resign from his post because his son is in the league. (I mean, asides from being one of the worst disciplinarians that the NHL has ever had.)

Here’s to the Habs opening up a can of Woop Ass on the Brainless Beaners.

  72. Jdub1985 says:

Forget any goon call ups … but Mara and White must be in the line up!

  73. SLYDER says:

the thing about Mara, White, and Sopel being in the line up is the fact that not one of them was a part of the last game. everyone seems to think these three are the ones that will be answering the bell – when in fact, because neither of them had anything to do with the latest installment of the habs-bruins rivalry, that animosity and hatred wont be there for lucic, campbell, etc…

it will be because of these three that things will NOT get out of hand

  74. Mr. Habs says:

    5 & 1/2 HRS TO GAME TIME!

  75. punkster says:

So tired of the build up to this one. Can we just kick their butts and move on please? Those 2 points would be huge tonight.

Next we’ve got the Blues to put in their place Thursday then the Pens and Caps. I don’t worry about the Booins in a playoff but those other two concern me.

  76. Propwash says:

If it’s just a minor cocussion, than Max-Pac is a demigod.

  77. Traf27 says:

I had the same problem as you and regarding the hit I agree with you that he knew what he was doing. So many times analyst go on about how top players are able to slow down the game and react quicker. Last i checked Chara was a top player, pretty sure he was able to clearly tell what was going to happen, but just to be sure he pushed Pacthes upper body over the boards anyways.

The struggles of today will make the victories of tomorrow that much sweeter.

  78. SeriousFan09 says:

I was blocked by COL Avalanche beat guy Adrian Dater (and I have no bloody idea why, I just follow him, can’t think of anything I Tweeted his way to tick him off).

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  79. HardHabits says:

If Chara doesn’t get 10 games suspended I would favour bringing up Henry and Bonneau and forgetting about hockey for the next game.

Still doesn’t change the fact that he didn’t try to kill him. It was intentional yes. It was dirty yes. It was a head shot yes. It is IMOalso worthy of a suspension.

But I don’t want to become the Bruins.

Don’t forget. It took 2 years for the Habs to regroup after 1973 to beat the Flyers in 1976.

Patience buddy. We will beat those “B”astards. In the alleys too if need be.

  91. HardHabits says:

You really over-react for a big guy. Do you realize what you are saying? It was intentional IMO but to say that he was trying to kill him is definitely over-kill (pardon the expression).

    We’ll take the division now.

  95. stephen says:

Best wishes to Max. I hope his family is able to get into town soon. I can’t imagine the anguish they would have experienced in witnessing the incident and being left to wonder about the condition of their loved one.

By no means am I excusing Chara’s actions, but at least he had the decency to address the media afterward. We can’t expect him, however, to openly admit to guiding an opponent’s head into a stanchion.

That said, I don’t for one second believe him when he says he didn’t know where they were, or only ‘vaguely’ knew that they were ‘near the bench’. I never made it out of house league hockey, but as a hockey player, I bloody well knew where I was on the ice at all times. Yes, it’s blindingly faster in the NHL, but that’s precisely why you MUST know where you are at all times; otherwise, you’d be putting yourself in vulnerable/dangerous positions all the time.

He should be suspended, but whether that will happen, I do have my doubts. This league is hardly a model of weighted, insightful discipline.

Again, best wishes go to Max and his family. Let’s hope he can make a full recovery, regardless of how long that might take and whether it ever allows him to take to the ice again. Health and quality of life above all else.

  96. habs-hampton says:

Well, golly gee, you can’t just start penalizing players everytime they try to decapitate a guy. There has to be some discretion. What if he just accidently kills a guy. You can’t give a guy 2 minutes for that!

  97. smiler2729 says:

Let’s get this piece of shit out of there, he’s doing too much harm to THE GAME. Draw up a petition, dial up an assassin, something! BETTMAN is the ROOT of ALL NHL EVIL.

  98. ricardamundo says:

Sorry but it wasn’t a play for the puck at all. The puck wasn’t even close to where Chara hit Max. Max had almost beat Chara and might have got to the puck except Chara turned what was definitely interference into assault. Chara is a professional hockey player. He knew he was already interfering, he knew who he was about to hit and he knew where he was on the ice. No excuses. He should be suspended for many games but probably won’t be with Campbell in charge. Disgraceful play by a bush league team. Boston Bruins are a tough team but there’s no condoning their play nor Chara’s hit. He’ll get away with it though and this crap will continue until someone gets killed on the ice. I hope Max is OK.

  99. habs-hampton says:

Marchand was mouthing off before the game about our guys diving all th time. Did you ever see anyone go down so easy as Marchand on that breakway? Sure, it was a hook, but you’re an NHL player! Most PeeWee players are stronger on their feet than that!

  100. habsruleworld says:

Let’s remember the awesome creativity of the Habs, they DOMINATED the Bruins,

Bruins looked completely outclassed, could not compete with the speed and skill of Habs.

and to listen to Boone tell us maybe next year for Habs etc. etc.

Ya right, Habs have everything to win it all right now! Eller, Kostityn, Patches, Pouliot, big, strong, tough, and major skilled and speedy smaller forwards, with awesome goaltending and coaching.

Teams see it, Bruins saw it, down 4 -1 in season series, being dominated,

and this is what they resort to doing to even the playing field, with Major conflict of interest Campbell the head disciplinarian watching the game and his son on Bruins,

Is there no ethics and intyegrity at all in the NHL?   Buttman major joke and corrupt,

  101. Kelvinator30 says:

Gathier and Martin are in NO way responsible for this.  Wanting more physical players on the club is a common sentiment, and I can’t say I disagree, but having a figher will not deter this crap.  Hell, it happened to the Bruins themselves twice in the past couple of years…and they actually have a tough team (not GOOD mind you, just tough).

This was pure unadulterated homicidal rage on Chara’s part.  Rage at loosing yet again.  Rage on being beaten time after time by the CH.  Rage at one of the all time choke jobs last year….No, there is only one person to blame and that is Zedeno Chara.

  102. kevin m says:

I’ll say it again… how can the league be very clear about shooting the puck over the glass being a penalty. Intentional or not.

a high stick to the face… intentional or not. Automatic.

    Head shots????????????

  103. HardHabits says:

    Very good post.

  104. habs-hampton says:

    Great night for the NHL!

     – Bettman in Pheonix  finally admitting that the sunbelt experiment is coming apart.

     – Campbell in Montreal watching his sons team make a mockery of the game, and try to restart the goon show in he final minutes.

  105. habsruleworld says:

smiler you captured the realness of this situation. exactly

I agree 100%, maiming and hurting, criminal intentions is all there is now.

Habs always seem to take the high road, and at great cost,,,, Zednick, Koivu, Patches

  106. andrewberkshire says:

Agreed, there is no debate. The hit is clearly and unarguably dirty.

  107. ProHabs says:

I respect your thought Serious but I am just saying, teams and especially the Bruins know they can do whatever they want physcially with our team. And if Patches handn’t gotten hurt,  I am sure in the third period we would have seen the whole Bruin team (even players like Marchant, Campbell, Boychuk who shouldn’t be scaring anyone) taking runs at PK and they wouldn’t have been happy until PK was hurt and there is no answer available from the Habs.

  108. Bill says:

Well big win, but … I don’t pray much but I did for Pacioretty. Hope he’s okay, and I don’t mean back in the line-up soon, because I can’t see him back before next year, which is where Chara and his big arm knocked him into. I mean, I’m glad he’s moving his hands and feet and I hope he hasn’t got a brain injury.

OF COURSE CHara is saying it was “unfortunate” and that he didn’t intend it. If he said anything else he’d be arrested. The replay doesn’t lie: Chara sees the stanchion and uses his arm to take Pac’s head into it. After the last game stuff between those two the intent couldn’t be any more obvious.

Typical Bruins/Julien hockey. I had a feeling the Bruins would do something like this, think I posted it yesterday. Obviously, I am not expecting Pappy Campbell’s hand-picked minion to do anything about it. It’s just sad and sickening.

    Full Breezer 4 Life

  109. sidhu says:

I tried to get on Habs I/O after the hit, but the server was down.

Chara should be suspended and should go to hell.  He had motive (him and Pacioretty have a history), he extends his arm out to lead Pacioretty into the stanchion, the hit was late (puck was gone), and it wasn’t a necessary hockey play to prevent Pacioretty from scoring (Chara’s D partner was back, on the puck).

Chara is going to plead innocence.  But you cannot tell me a guy who has played this long does not know that the stanchion is there, and plus he extends his arm specifically to continue guiding Pacioretty into the stanchion.

More broadly, it was a hit that involved the head.  This is precisely what the league needs to get rid of.  Because Chara is a captain or well-liked (by some) does not exempt him from rules that should protect players when they are vulnerable and take shots to the head nonetheless.  In fact, this is an optimal opportunity for the league to demonstrate how seriously it takes these type of unnecessary, dangerous, disrespectful plays to the head that have tremendously bad consequences. Crosby still isn’t back, who knows how long Pacioretty will be out.

To make matters worse, Lucic tries to fight a non-fighter when the game is out of hand and when the class thing to do would be to let the game end given what happened.

Before the game, I had little respect for the Bruins as a fan of the Habs.  Now, I have no respect for Chara and Lucic as human beings.  This is beyond hockey — these two will get what’s coming to them, whether from the league or some external, karmic force.

I hope Pacioretty has a full and speedy recovery, and I wish the whole Habs I/O family well.

  110. ricardamundo says:

    Shut up.

  111. ricardamundo says:

That’s why they’re pros and we’re not. And just who and when we’re we going to go after him? He was tossed. Think about things before you post.

  112. Aybara says:

I don’t think what the players say should come into it.

Looking at the replay, it looks intentional and that is what matters. Being sorry about it after the fact mean shit all.

  113. RGM says:

TSN just aired the comment I quoted below. Yeah, people love to jump headfirst into stanchions all the time.

    Go Habs Go!

  114. ricardamundo says:

    Oh shut up.

  115. Willy the bum says:

Such a costly win, and I’m not satified even if it’s a huge win for us.  I was in tears when the announcer named the third star to Patches and a good long applause to him.  It was a heartbreaker to see a good player go down like that, and Patches came into this season with so much confidence he has been a real great part of the team.

Tomorrow, if you guys should see me wearing a Canadiens cap with a “67” taped on it, I’m keeping it on in hope for a huge recovery to Patches, and if you do the same, he’ll know we still have confidence in him.

    Get well, Patches!

  116. topher5468 says:

Mike Milbury, why should anyone with any intelligence want to listen to him, I for the life of me cant figure out why he is the poster boy for the NHL, his career was suspect, his GM career was worse and he efin ugly to boot. Go die Milbury,

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  117. HabFanSince72 says:

Exactly. Reckless at best. And until the league starts to punish recklesness, this will continue.

Do the same thing on a city street and you would be charged.

Obviously he didn’t “intend” to seriously injure him, and obviously he felt bad after, but he is a thug, and has been trying for three games to get Patches.

  118. SeriousFan09 says:

Who exactly could have intimidated Chara not to do that? All he has to do is grab a guy and start ragdolling him around, no one can really threaten Chara from doing something he thinks he can do.

Marc Savard was taken out in the full view of the Boston Bruins a supposedly tough team filled with enforcers but it happened all the same. Cooke never answered for his actions.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  119. habsfaninboston says:

Bruins blog states call on Chara hit was questionable and there was no malice intended.

  120. TheAmerican says:

    The Report From

The eagerly anticipated rematch between the Bruins and Canadiens went almost two periods without the type of controversy seen in a Feb. 9 game at TD Garden which featured 189 penalty minutes. Then, Zdeno Charachecked Max Pacioretty.

Late in the second period, the Bruins defenseman ran the Canadiens forward into the exposed glass that separates the the two benches. Pacioretty’s hit slammed into the the divider, and he fell to the ice instantly.

Pacioretty lay motionless face-down on the ice for a few moments before being lifted onto a stretcher and wheeled off the ice. He appeared to be unconscious for some time, but appeared to have his eyes opened before being lifted onto a stretcher.

Chara was given a 5-minute major penalty for interference, as well as a game misconduct.

Pacioretty, of course, was the Canadien that scored the game-winning goal against the Bruins on Jan. 8 in a come-from-behind win for Montreal at the Bell Centre. Following that goal, Pacioretty skated by Chara, bumping him as he skated by. Chara went after Pacioretty, inciting a small scrum.

  121. habs-hampton says:

So, why exactly was Colin Campbell at the game? He has stated that he recuses himself from all decisions involving the Bruins, but he, coincidently was at this game? Does he go to all of Gregory’s games, like a good hockey Dad? Didn’t think so. He was there so he could see first hand if anything bad happened after the last one. But he can’t rule on anything. So why was he there instead of one of his minions?

I’d like to see the emails that are flying around now!

Chara is a goon. A talented goon, but still a goon who knew exactly what he was doing. He’s been trying to catch Max since that little push in OT a couple of months ago.

    Thoughts are with MaxPac.

    Oh, Yeah.

  122. kempie says:

    First class jackass. Nice going.

  123. Captain aHab says:

Chara will get 3…mark it down. The thing however is that he’ll have to be careful until the playoffs because if he pulls another one like that, they’ll have to suspend him 10 and that might mean missing playoff time.

  124. CHasman says:

White set the tone early by beating on Boychuk.  Mara was a great physical presence, Kostitsyn was playing like a power forward and Price is becoming the franchise.  I especially like a point late in the first with the Boston goon squad in the Montreal zone and after the whistle blows Thornton looks around and sees Mara, White and Sopel (all players who weren’t there last time) and nothing happens.  Loved it. Now as long as MaxPac is okay I’m a very happy camper.

  125. habsfaninboston says:

VS. reporting that both locker rooms and officials didn’t think Chara hit was intentional and that suspension is unlikely.

  126. larisalapointe says:

Yes, our team won 5 in a row without killing anyone. Max will be alright. But you and your avatar will not be.

  127. captaink4life says:

I wonder if there is a mob gathered outside the Sofitel tonight…

You will always be a Canadien in my eyes, Saku

  128. Aybara says:

I would imagine that the players were a little more concerned about their teammate than getting retribution.

  129. HardHabits says:

Chara will probably get 10 games for the hit.

I do not believe Chara pulled a Bertuzzi here, however the hit was dirty and uncalled for. It should go punished and it should be punished severely.

The Habs have to regroup and take the division. That’s the revenge that is needed.

  130. ProHabs says:

Get well Patches. Chara is responsible for this but he is not the only one. Gauthier and Martin have not done enough to protect our players. If it wasn’t Patches getting hurt tonight it was going to be PK. And I worry for the game on March 24. I had a bad feeling going into this game.

How long have we been saying that this team needs some people to protect our young assets. The game last month was a clear message that other teams felt like they could do whatever they wanted with our team. Gauthier had up to the deadline to do something about this. There we players available that would have helped protect our players (Belak, Scortini) The Bruins are a classless team and it starts right at the top. Neely salivates at any kind of violence and it flow right down to a goon coach in Julien. All of the Bruins players follow suit and it really showed in the last 3 minutes of this game.

I am not a fan of fighting. But we need to protect our players. Again, get well Patches.

  131. notbigbird says:

    I feel sick at heart.

  132. OneTimer says:

this is so fucked up. we can NEVER win a big game without losing a star player. Goddamnit. I hope Patches is OK. I hope his career isn’t over.

  133. Displaced says:

I came thisclose to losing it after witnessing that hit.

He’s your CAPTAIN, Bruins fans.  Keeping it classy, as ever.

    Pray for Max.

    Hab Baby #1 due 5/19/11…

  135. HABSsince92 says:

Glad the Habs won…..big win……..onto the MaxPac hit……..Mike Milbury says that Chara should have only received a 2 minute interference penalty on the hit. What a douche. Clearly Chara ran Pac into the partition the puck was well past hem….and I fully believe that Chara knew what he was doing out there….he remembers the shove from Max in the OT game earlier this year. I hate the Bruins.

My prayers are with MaxPac. Get well soon.

The Scott Gomez line………..where wingers go to die.

  136. matrags says:

right on pathetic response we won but somehow I feel like we lost

  137. smiler2729 says:

I used to have respect for the Bruins as opponents, I have no more. I have also lost a part of me that sees this game through the innocent eyes of a kid playing it on the driveway, on the backyard rink or in house league… there’s no more respect bewteen opponents out there.

A little bit of hockey died tonight no matter how Max-Pac pulls out of it.

I almost hate this game now as much I love it. I hate the people than run it and have run it into what it has become. Gary Bettman, Colin Campbell, go f*** yourselves.

    Go Habs Go!

  143. topher5468 says:

Agreed Andrew, what is the point in that babble, No one wants Max Pac to be injured

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  144. Shiloh says:

I think that we shouldn’t get too stuck on Chara’s “intentions”. It doesn’t matter what he intended. At best, he acted in a manner so reckless that he jeopardized the health (and you could argue life) of another player. For his actions the on-ice officials issued a MAJOR penalty and a game misconduct.

Unless the NHL wants to argue that the officials blew the call, he has to be suspended.

I also think that Chara’s past interactions with Pacioretti are not helpful to him. He should draw a longer suspension because of the history between himself and PAtches.

  145. Marc10 says:

That’s what happens when you’re biased and accept violence as a commercial imperative.

    I hope Max is OK.

  146. topher5468 says:

Just watched part of Chara’s presser, Now, i didnt expect him to say  Yea I did it on purpose but c’mon man, the camera doesn’t lie you giant duoche, you knew where you were and pushed him right into the stanchion. In my opinion, you should be gone at least 4, You insensitive prick

I knew we were somewhere close to our bench.  It wasn’t my intention to push him to the post.  Its very unfortunate.  In that situation things are happening fast and you’re [not] planning to do that.  You know …  That’s not my style to hurt somebody.

He ignores the fact that he extends his arm into MaxPac pushing him into the post, and that the post is in front of Chara — he can see the post as he finishes the hit.

  206. Habnofear says:

We didn’t win the game as much as we lost a star player and YA …NO ONE WENT AFTER BASTERED AFTER THAT HIT!

  207. andrewberkshire says:

    Please shut the fuck up.

  208. RGM says:

I still can’t believe what we saw there. Utterly despicable.

    Go Habs Go!

  209. Thomas says:

I don’t know if they did “bend us over again”.  Yes they were physical, and yes they may have gotten more hits, but we didn’t sit back, Patches threw some good hits, Eller threw some hits, Mara etc…we weren’t pushed around, played our game and came out with a great W.

As for a W, or healthy MaxPac, i’d take a healthy MaxPac, I don’t wish that on anyone, except maybe Chara

  210. Larry says:

If Boston had won that would be FRONT PAGE at TSN

  211. DearyLeary says:

100% agree.  It’s kind of disturbing that Gary refuses to address it as an issue.

  221. revolutionnumber9 says:

Totally agree. If he’s there to see his son, no problems but he really has to be careful with how it appears. For some reason, I’d feel better if he was in the seats even though there’s no functional difference.

  222. B says:

Colin Campbell should not be involved in any official way in any game involving his son.

  246. Mattyleg says:

    We were looking fantastic.

I hope, fingers crossed, that Patches can come back because we need his speed, his skills, and his heart.

  253. HardHabits says:

This game will rally the Habs and IMO they will take the division now. Bruins lost more than the game.

    Karma. It’ll haunt the Bruins.

IMO the Bruins have injured themselves worse than they did MaxPax.

As I said. This game will get into their (the Bruins) heads.

  254. geo_habsgo says:

Whether or not there was malicious intent is a completely moot at this point. You just don’t make a play like that with seconds left to play in the period when the score is 4-0. It’s extremely careless. Whether or not his intent was to destroy patches. the hit was malicious and he should be given heavy discipline by the Cambell.

This is whats wrong with the league though. A seemingly clean hit in a dirty area. Does that make the play clean? No. He knew the danger. A player skating at Patches speed is so easy to hit and chara knew he would be fly like a rag-doll. If this doesn’t change things in the NHL I don’t know what will.

  255. G-Man says:

Chara is a giant piece of shit. Claude Julien runs a goon show disguised as a hockey team. Colin Campbell is the father of a Bruins player. Something must be done before someone gets killed out there. Chara must miss the rest of the season for attempted murder (hyperbole).

When the Habs play hockey, Julien’s goons can’t keep up. I hope to hell that all Bruins players get the concussions they deserve, especially Luchicken for trying to start something with 3 mins some secs left.

There is no joy in this win; there is only a burning desire to see Bruins lying on the ice writhing in pain.

  256. madhabsfan says:

It’s hard to imagine the league losing even more credibility, but unless something very serious is done to take assaults like this out of the game, the NHL will become about as reputable internationally as the WWE.

  257. Da Hema says:

Was Rask trying to evade that shot by Wiz?

  258. TripleX says:

Yikes!  Wiz just priced himself out of Montreal.  Wow!

  259. kempie says:

Chara knew exactly what he was doing. He had LOTS OF TIME to let up, he saw what was coming, he knew the speed Max was going and the puck was well past both of them. Factor in the history between the two of them and I’m quite certain of that moron’s intent.

  260. SeriousFan09 says:

Worst part about this, NHL will likely chicken out RE suspension.

Campbell recuses himself because his son was involved, his spineless minion gives out a wrist slap and the show goes on until a player is dead on the ice.

  267. Shiloh says:

Wow – so much to love on that play. Cammy with a great pass – Wiz with a rocket – and AK digging along the boards.

  268. spcbrass says:

4-0 the goon festival will now commence!

  269. JIMVINNY says:

How the F*CK does Lucic not get a misconduct for instigating in the last 5 minutes?  Can there be any doubt what he was trying to get Pouliot to do?  He should have been thrown out, without question.

  270. Aybara says:

Okay, replay shows chara directing Patches head into the stanchion. Chara knew exactly what he was doing, he was looking at the stanchion as he made the hit. This is a dirty hockey play. Combine this with the past history between Chara and Pacioretty and it is clear what the intent was. The player needs to be disciplined severely. I know the NHL doesn’t operate like this but Chara should be out for at the very least, the same amount of games that Pacioretty is injured.

  271. Antho says:

Belak would of been good here to bust one of those gutless mother$#%#ers

  288. ericmlord says:

To all Boston fans, without any spirit of gamesmanship, during tonight’s game.

Well, there it is. Zdeno Chara just almost decapitated our most promising prospect. He didn’t have the puck, he wasn’t looking, and now it looks like he’s going to miss significant time with a concussion. You and your lot should f***ing know about concussions. It’s possible that your gorilla just ended a very promising hockey career.

Don’t you f***ing dare tell me that there wasn’t intent. Chara has a history of his like this, just like your entire goddamn classless organization. You are a city of people that glorifies the most base and beautiless aspects of what can be the most beautiful game – fights, violence, thuggery. We saw it a month ago, and you claim that it’s because we were running our mouths off. Fine, but if someone runs his mouth off at me in a shopping mall and I beat him up, I’m going to jail – which is where Zdeno Chara belongs. Now, again in a game that’s out of reach, this. Fool me twice… and don’t even get me started about Kyle McLaren on Richard Zednik. This is becoming a recurring problem.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy our rivalry. Every team needs a rival. What just happened, however, has absoutely no place in a hockey rivalry. I wanted to watch this game as a celebration of what’s beautiful about our game, and instead I get a kid who I had really high hopes for getting stretchered to the hospital. Is this what you want hockey to be?

Your coach is classless, your captain is a thug and your hockey team is terrible. Take that back to Boston on the goddamn Amtrak.

  289. Jdub1985 says:

4 – 1 is not convincing … and having a 5 min PP with 4 – 0 score is anything but convincing … its appauling

  311. Laramy87 says:

Lucic before the game, says the habs started everything…. Wow is that not calling the coffee pot black. I hate that piece of sh!t so much

  312. Larry says:

You would think that given the circumstances the Bruins would just want to play this out now and go, hoping, as men and fellow professionals that Max is ok. But NO, They show that they are completely lacking in class right to the end. I really do despise Julien. I used to feel sorry for him but no more.

  313. RiverviewCanadien says:

You know I really used to admire the athlete and player Chara is…I think I will be joining the Bell faithful serenade of Zdeno. Not the first time someone has hit that, but come on! Less than 20 secs left. He knew exaclty where he was on the ice and took advantage, he knew where his was hitting Pacioretty, and he completely extends his arm him into it.

Intent…would be an understatement. There is something wrong with hockey. Players have no respect, Rectum Campbell is all over the board in his sentencing, officiating is suspect, equipment are weapons.

    F— Chara!

    F— the Bruins!

  314. SLYDER says:

so because he is 6’9 he should be more careful with his hits?

he should only hit bigger guys? like Max? who just happens to be 6’4?

  315. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Of course Lucy wants to fight Pouliot. Of course. Gutless POS.

  318. habsoul says:

Why does it seem inevitable that these teams will meet in the playoffs?

Freaking Lucic. 2 Minutes for looking like a Neanderthal.

  319. Jdub1985 says:

Make’s me sick to watch them play like this … after what just happend… JM blows off the 5 min PP and plays his SYSTEM … 2 points whatever … Boston has the last laugh, Chara will play next game and MaxPac won’t … now Lucic gets manhandle – JM SEND A MESSAGE – THIS TEAM IS JUST TAKING IT … no dignity

  320. RGM says:

Look at the big tough guy going after Pouliot.

    Go Habs Go!

  321. JIMVINNY says:

LOL.  And Lucic tries to pick a fight with Pouliot.  Brave.  Real Brave.

  322. joeybarrie says:

This is an excellent point. I doube he intended to hurt him, but he deserves a suspension. I say 5 games.

  324. JIMVINNY says:

Based on that replay, there is no question that Chara gave him an extra shove into the stanchion.  He looked up, saw the glass, and pushed.

  325. wd40 says:

    Well said, my friend.

  326. joeybarrie says:

Wait till he comes back from his 5 game suspension to play us.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  327. Shiloh says:

Intent is no defense for Chara – it doesn’t matter if he intended to injure Patch or not. He injured him carelessly during the commission of a penalty – interference. He was committing an illegal play and that careless, illegal play could have killed a player. He has to be suspended for a good long while.

  328. SeriousFan09 says:

Besides that disgusting Chara hit, don’t think he meant for that to happen, but it did, he is a piece of shit.

Regardless, this seems to be Ellers coming out party, the guy is everywhere, his back checking has been phenominal and offensive vision superb, too bad it has to be overshadowed but a gutless play from that effing big Slovak!

  333. joeybarrie says:

Agreed. Poor decision, but I can’t imagine he wanted to hurt him.

Chara better not step onto the ice again for a long, long time or there will be blood to be paid.

  363. HabSgt says:

Not hearing much from the Bruins fans now….they were all here before the game…They were all so loud & obnoxious before…now they are all very quiet.

I’d be interested in what the Boston play-by-play guys are saying as well. they must be choking on their own rage.

  364. HugeHabsFan says:

And Chara just paid him back.  Impressive.

unfortunately, out of taste, we will see very few replays of the incident

i really didnt see intent there…his hands were away from patches…it was all shoulder, like i said, if it wasnt for him being a 6’9 monster the hit wouldnt have been that brutal

  366. wild flower says:

    I would agree – it’s a fast game.

  367. EricInStL says:

Should be no suspension. Was not an intent to injure, just a crap place in the hockey rink.

That is simply the worst thing that could have happened in this particular game., No matter which team. no matter which player.

A severe injury to a player in this heavily hyped revenge match is the penultimate disaster.

Benoit Brunet mentions concussion. From what I saw his neck is more likely broken.

Did he gain consciousness? I didn’t see a move out of him or his eyes open..

Maxpac won’t be boucning back from this one.

    I can’t express my grief.

  430. wd40 says:

    From the Bruins blog:

So, 39:44.2 officially in the books and Habs with 4-0 lead. It takes nearly 10 minutes for medical staff to tend to the KO’d Pacioretty before he is wheeled off ice on stretcher.

Chara is tossed from game, assessed 5:00 for interfence and given a game misconduct. Very questionable call. Hit was without malice. Chara finishes check and Pacioretty unfortunate to hit support beam.”

  431. twilighthours says:

Comparing Marchand to a weasel is unfair to the weasel, Boone.  Great animal.

  432. wd40 says:

  433. geo_habsgo says:

Doesn’t matter. Do you make that kind of play with SECONDS left in the period in an already 4-0 game? Please. This is what is wrong with the league today. I don’t think Chara is some sort of monster but he should have the presence of mind to avoid that play. He likely just robbed a young man of enjoying the type of career success and longevity that he has. I’m so sad for Patches, and for hockey if this is what it has become.

That being said, we are answering the Bruins thuggery from last game with a 4-1 lead with 6 min to go…..

Revenge has not only been ours, but we have pretty much OWNED the Bruins in the last 5 years. I hope we can get over our nerves and fears a bit to enjoy this win.

Im gonna try to hope Eller gets his hatty, and wait for GOOD news from MaxPac, who will be in my prayers tonight. If I was lying in the hospital, I would say don’t worry about me right now. ENJOY THE GAME WHILE YOU CAN………

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  439. Caper says:

As much as I hate the Bruins , I have a hard time believing that Chara did that hit on purpose. I have watched the play twice and as ugly as it is, I have my doubts about his intent. However I will watch his body language closely as he is interviewed. I wonder if the Bruins will make him available after the game.

  440. habsoul says:

But frankly, I stopped caring after 2.

  465. TripleX says:

Why does this team always lose a player when he is having a career season?  Talk about bad luck.

Let me ask all you knowlegeble posters out there …

MaxPac in our lineup or 2 points?

Bruins beat us – they made end one of our star players career possibly – and all you people can say is good win, good win.

  474. novahab says:

Chara needs to be gone for good and Geoff Molson has to bring in the RCMP is he has the guts if not then the political leaders in this Province needs to bring in the RCMP. Just like out in Vancouver the Cops need to be brought in. Bettman and his henchmen allow this to happen Last Game Campbell used his elbow pad as a weapon and nothing. No way Chara didn’t know what he was doing he did that on puspose. He clearly pushed Patches  head in to that beam. If he not gone then Patches needs to get a lawyer and sue his career could be over. Bruins has a history of this remember Zednic and Richer.

  475. OneTimer says:

God. This went from one of the best nights in recent memory to a total bringdown. I’m still just sitting and blinking at my screen.

Good win boys. And at least, the one little tiny silver lining, is that Pacioretty seems like a very tough kid and “good healer”, as has been previously stated. Is it too much to hope he’ll come back this season?

  476. Jdub1985 says:

I pray your correct  – because we certainly did nothing about it on the ice.

  477. Habnofear says:

Whats with the small piece of padding on the glass there…GET REAL! These guy’s are big and fast and you’d think the glass would be a lil safer than the bobsled run in Vancouver.

  478. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

there is without a doubt malicious intent on the illegal interference… I watched the replay several times and CHARA CLEARLY LOOKS UP AT THE STANTION POST AND WITH PERFECT TIMING RAMS MAX-PAX INTO THE POST.

now this is judgement day folks, listen and measure every single damn response and comment from every hockey analyst, many have already fallen to my black book…. this hit is clearly INTENTIONAL as CHARA CLEARLY LOOKS UP AT THE STANTION POST AND WITH PERFECT TIMING RAMS MAX-PAX INTO THE POST.\

  479. longtimehabsfan says:

As I said before, same old Bruins.  They cannot handle speed and skill so they would rather kill you.  Max Pac is a tough kid.  This is typical of Bettman’s NHL.  What next?

  480. Aybara says:

    This is a stupid question.

I would rather lose 15-0 to them and have them fight and destroy all of our players as long as no one got injured.

  482. kempie says:

  483. larisalapointe says:

If anything Chara’s arrogance is astounding. He does this with the whole world watching.

Intentional or not, if the NHL is serious about stopping these types of hits, what a better way than to suspend a “name” player for a long long time.

  484. EricInStL says:

Yeah have a feeling no suspension will come out of it.

  486. HardHabits says:

Good news. Well a matter of degree. It’s only a concussion. I just saw it on RDS. So he will be back at the latest next season. We just need to find out the severity of the concussion.

He seemed to have passed some severity tests.

They will know more in a week about when he could return.

  487. habs-hampton says:

Then why was it a major penalty?

  488. Ian Cobb says:

That big son of a b….  Chara. Any bikers want to make a few bucks out there! You are invited to Chara’s house for coffee.

They ran at P.K., Price also, all night, our rookies make them look like crap with their play and speed. Boston can’t play the game so they resort to trying to injure our kids. Garbage Team and coach. Guess why we got rid of him.

Sure hope we hear a full report on Max in the morning. But the powers will keep the info to themselves.

Bettman just announced that they were prepared to move Phoenix.

  489. Mr. Habs says:

Can it get any worse? Our two top D-Men are out & now our top power forward. The Hockey Gods are cruel.

  490. HardHabits says:

We will win the division now. Karma has a way of working things out. This is the Habs big test. And believe me they will rally.

This is worse for the Bruins. The Habs have proved themselves to be gritty and tough.

I know this is bad and all our throats sunk as we saw Max on the ice but I have watched RDS and it’s a concussion and he has passed a severity test, (whatever that means) so have hope brother.

These goons will not beat us. The Habs have too much class to react with thuggery.

The Bruins are classless neanderthals and I never want to see the Habs become like that.

  491. HardHabits says:

Wrong Ian. We need to take the division now. This game has hurt the Bruins worse than the Habs.

In fact I’m amazed Patches lives and isn’t a quadriplegic. And ya I shed a tear and am FK’n as angry as if it happened too one of my boy’s! These are the same Bruins of lore and nuthing changes….they need a BEAT DOWN…FK THE RULES …IT WILL SAVE A LIFE DOWN THE ROAD…

Chara’s hit on Max was deliberate and he knew exactly what he was doing and the big gorilla should be suspended for the rest of the season at the very least. Typical Bruin reaction when they know they are beaten. The league has to do something about this bullshit. I am sick of the Bruins getting away with this crap every time the Habs are getting the best of them. It makes me sick that they are allowed to do this time and time again…disgusting ! Unfortunate my ass…blah blah blah. Chara, I hope you burn in hell !!

I am sorry but I fear we just lost our best power forward for good.  Chara must be suspended for 20 games and destroyed when he returns.

  503. twilighthours says:

I’m really not sure if Chara did this intentionally.  But I want a plea for a thorough investigation from Gauthier.  Consider:

    1) Pax scores OT winner, shoves Chara

    2) Bruins beat Habs 8-6, Chara goes after Pax during a scrum, tries to fight him.

    3) This, tonight.

Was Chara out for vengeance?  I don’t know.

    But I’m scared for Max.

  504. C3P1 says:

and of course, matt barnaby on twitter says it’s not worthy of a suspension. MEAT STICK

  505. habs001 says:

max 4 games if any ..and maxpac probably out rest of the season for sure and probably playoffs…chara should be gone for the reg and playoffs…

  506. EricInStL says:

Now Chara obviously wanted to ride him out and not injure him.

But lots of other players get caught in that no man’s area of the rink should be addressed.

  509. Captain aHab says:

CBC? There was a show on Team990 I listened to a little while back where Melnick (I think) cam across as pretty much telling her she was dumb on air and it didn’t seem to be a fun time in the booth. It felt really weird listening to it so I wonder if she left due to bad relations.

  510. SLYDER says:

fortunately weve had their number this year in the event of a tie-break

  511. Chris says:

With three games in hand on the Rangers, 7th place is in play as well.  But i don’t think they will quite catch up.  They’be been gaining 6-9 points per 10 games on everybody else in the conference since early January, but that has relied on an unbelievable hot streak that is hard to see continuing through another 16 games.

  512. RGM says:

Odds that the Devils make it are presently at 2% – they just don’t have enough race track left, and the fortuitous scheduling that has the Sabres & Canes playing each other twice before the end of the season virtually assures that it’ll be one of them making the playoffs, with the other duking it out with the Rangers.

Most likely the Habs end up in 5th or 6th, and the situation with the top three has become much more fluid due to the Flyers stumbling while Pittsburgh continues to accumulate points despite losing a bunch, and the Bruins and Caps catching heat at the right time.

Only way the Habs have a chance to catch the B’s for the division is to take both of the remaining games in regulation. Any extra points for Boston in these 4-(or more)-pointers will give them just too much cushion, no matter how hard the Habs are pushin’.

    Go Habs Go!

  513. Chris says:

Realized belatedly that it wasn’t clear who I was referring to.  My comment was referring to the Devils’ chances of making the playoffs.  While Buffalo/Carolina will probably take at least one of the spots, the Rangers are also within striking distance in 7th place.  So basically the Rangers, Sabres, Hurricanes, Leafs and Devils are fighting it out for two playoff spots, with the Habs comfortably ahead and fighting instead for a #4/5 seed.  I doubt they are catching the Bruins at this point, but stranger things have happened.

———————————————————————— “Young people have seen that a team can play electrifying, fascinating hockey while still behaving like gentlemen.” ~Serge Savard~

  523. Chris says:

Any team can beat us in a seven game series, and we have a decent change against any of them.  Regular season head-to-hear records are meaningless.  If I had to go out and pick them, though:

Fear:  Washington (I believe they are a better playoff team than last year), Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey (if they get in…that team is playing unbelievable hockey)

On the fence:  Pittsburgh (if Crosby comes back, elevate them to fear), New York Rangers (if Lundqvist gets hot, they are a handful)

Not so much fear:  Tampa Bay (although St. Louis and Lecavalier do appear more energetic against the Habs, even if the stats don’t show much difference), Carolina, Toronto

  524. DearyLeary says:

So, I think it’s safe to say that depending on how all the teams play there’s a possibility that we play any of the 8 teams in the first round (not out of the realm of possibility to catch Boston, nor is it impossible that Boston catches Philly, nor is it imossible for us to grab a home ice series or two).

With that in mind who do you most want to play, and who do you fear the most?

  525. Danno says:

    Want – Tampa Bay

Fear – (If they make it) New Jersey

Just received confirmation that the repairmen will make their service call between 6:00 and 8:00 tonight. Hopefully it’s not the same guys as the ones last week who blamed it on the wind. Seems kind of strange that the thing ran like a Swiss clock for ten years and now malfunctions weekly.

In any case, my bad luck should hold out – which translates to good luck for the Habs. When I’m dealing with the repair guys, for sure Les Boys will score at least two goals, maybe three. The rule is – I’ll miss them. When I leave the room, they score.

on the other hand….that call on pleks was BS, he led with his hip, the leg contact was incidental

  640. Just A Guy says:

God why am I complaining, but first, I thought the D played well mostly keeping the B’s to the outside. A few chances, but Boston is quite deep much to our ire. Even though, I loved what White did. Really dangerous play by Boychuck, the boys on RDS pointed out how his stick position could have really done some harm. The instigator was B.S. but after a few minutes I realized that Desharnais and Pouliot had been benched. I think JM double shifted someone and put them out there once but I mean if you’re not using Halpern for faceoffs, and Pouliot is on the bench… its just painful watching Halpern out there. He’s in all the right places but he can’t do much. He is much better suited for the shutdown puck possesion type of game. Great to see Eller being in the right spot and being able to do something about it. I loved his last goal, he knew exactly what to do, and did it really fluidly.

I hope the B’s come out and play hockey in the 2nd and not let whatever “little dispicable” things the habs did give the apparent drama queens an excuse to go all reptillian on our poor boys.

  659. EricInStL says:

Word of the year, close second winning.

“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject”–Winston Churchill

  660. Rob D says:

Pouliot doesn’t get much ice time..but then again..he doesn’t deserve it. He needs a remedial course in basic hockey skills..keep your stick on the ice for one. He’s always got it up around his ears. He can’t seem to make a sharp turn without falling..and if he tries to quickly accelerate from a standing start, he has his weight back on his heels and is wobbly till he gets going.

I like him though. He’s got a terrific shot and seems to be playing several degrees harder this year. A little work and he might turn into a hockey player. Unfortunately, he is not contributing at the level we need him to this year.

  661. JIMVINNY says:

    The microwave…  nice.

  662. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

    excellent observation and idea NOVA

  663. OneTimer says:

    we knew that already!

  664. Da Hema says:

    Too soon Danno!

  665. EricInStL says:

    White is the missing ingredient.

Will give more room to the smaller guys. DO NOT SEND HIM DOWN.

“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject”–Winston Churchill

  666. JIMVINNY says:

He took 17 minutes in penalties with 16:49 left in the period.  If he starts the second in the box, we’ll know he’s ok.

  667. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

WOOOOOOOOOOW, now thats what i’m talking about, a totally different team from FEB 9th,

P.O.S. Bruins need this beating…. WHITE did his job and reset the tone of the game….

but look out, because Boston is going to go ballistic…

  668. habs001 says:

a very solid first period…eller line had one of the best periods of any hab line this year..not sold on halpern on a top line but it is working for now but we will need that line to score in the future…pouliot has no value on the team if he plays so little time energy type player would be better..

  669. SLYDER says:

you can see the goonery bubbling to the surface and Claude Julien is thanking his lucky stars the period ended.

Lucic was beefin Halpern and Horton was trying to bully Pleks – some parents get naked on the kitchen floor, some on the table…Lucic and Horton’s parents got naked on the microwave and gave birth to….well…Lucic and Horton

  670. SeriousFan09 says:

Entirely possible, he threw enough punches for that to happen.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  671. TripleX says:

Beautiful opportunistic goal by Eller, great hands and patience to put it upstairs.

But does the system allow a forward to be that low in the offensive zone when the puck is headed up the ice at the blue line?  Just wondering and not complaining. I wish the forwards would stay deeper more often instead of rushing back first sign of trouble.

  672. Mr. Habs says:

My beloved Habs of Montreal, don’t let up on the gas. Don’t let these Thugs back in this game. Please

  673. twilighthours says:

What’s the status of the consecutive-periods-scored stat?  And – this would be pretty awesome if you knew – how does it rank all-time?

  674. DearyLeary says:

    Boston is a hole…

  675. Top Corner says:

Great period.  Actually that couldnt have started better.  Long way to go….they will try to smash and grab in the 2nd.  Stick to the plan booeeyyssss , outskate them !!!!!!!!  Its working  :)

    …..GO HABS GO !!!!!!!

and GO ELLER GO !!!  WOW !

  676. PeterD says:

    Lars F. Eller…a Bruins killer…who knew?

Just love that kid…and that line is huge right now for us.

  677. Ayan_SB says:

L’Harceleur wants that hat trick pin.

  678. HAB-PROFESSOR says:

the pacifist idiots are learning a lesson tonight, about what a real team should be made of.

  679. nickster13 says:

Heller of a game so far!

  680. DearyLeary says:

Gagnon’s speculation on Twitter.  I hope not, I like White a lot, brings a lot of the same assets that Pyatt does (minus the speed), but adds a scoring touch and size.

  681. Jdub1985 says:

    white demolished boychuck

  682. bigdave says:

Jack Edwards just announced that the Brroons dominated the first period!

    What a moron!

“The Allo Police Media – a collection of bitter ex-coaches, players and wannabees whose collective lack of success accounts for their present positions in Sports’ equivalent of the Jerry Springer Show”

  683. Jdub1985 says:

and see how the rest of the period went? RESPECT

for all you pacifists – lets play our game yada yada – Its guys like White that allow for us to play our game!

I told you the habs would get the early lead … its how Beantown reacts … will White and perhaps Mara be called on again?

    We will see in 15.

  684. Danno says:

This is Wolf Blitzer coming to you from the Situation Room on a breaking news story.

It’s official Boston is Montreal’s b!tches. CNN will keep you posted on these and other events as they unfold.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  685. DearyLeary says:

Would be a hell of a coming out party!  A Nat Hatty against the Bruins to pull us within 2 points?

  686. HugeHabsFan says:

Wouldn’t it be fabulous if it was Eller to get that??  He’s gonna be hungry to get the hatty!

“Thank you Cammy for making my day even more amazing!”

Cammalleri: “I almost feel bad for a guy who plays an NHL career without experiencing what it’s like to be a Montreal Canadien”.

  687. Da Hema says:

If Pouliot weren’t taking his standard ill-timed penalties, I wouldn’t even know he has been playing the past 10 games….

  688. DearyLeary says:

    Larry the Danish Dream Eller!

  689. Mattyleg says:

Good stuff Larry! Natural Hatty. Make it so.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  690. Storm Man says:

    Horton needs a beatdown

  691. BJT says:

Hah! Moen on pace for a 6 pt. game..

  692. kempie says:

Nice f***ing period. All hail Lar Zeller!

  693. JVF says:

The Twit couldn’t get the shot off…

  694. Danno says:

Rev up the Hal Gill scoring machine now

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  695. Shiloh says:

Maybe Stubbs will get his chapeau tonight. Go Larry!

  696. SeriousFan09 says:

    Hell of a game!

Eller puts the Habs up 2-0, Habs control the momentum and White took care of business when Subban was targeted.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  697. _Habsoloutly_ says:

How do you like my boy now Bugs!!!

  698. HardHabits says:

Did White break his hand in that fight?

  699. Mike Boone says:

Too early to be gloating, Danno

  700. HardHabits says:

It aint over. It’s 2-0. The worst lead in hockey. 2 more periods. The Habs need to score more and not try and sit on this lead.

  701. novahab says:

JM has to get Cammy and Pleks away from the Lucic line they are playing big time scared. Christ Pleks and Cammy are taking weak slaps at the puck and not skating. JM put King Eller’s line out against them and sit those two on the bench. Start giving more ice to DD”s line also not much since in having two players who are afraid to play out on the ice.

  702. _Habsoloutly_ says:

  703. says:

This is just a preview of the future, our GM knew exactly what he wanted in Eller.  Some take more time than others to show their stuff.  I’m happy for Eller!!!!!

    They Call Me Shane

  704. LizardKing1967 says:

Cammy looks hurt. He shouldn’t have suited up for the game.

He could hurt us this way.

He’s hurt for sure. Look at the replay when he had a pass from Pleks with open net, couldn’t even get there fast enough. It’s like he’s skating in mud.

    Jim-out. I BELIEVE!

  705. SLYDER says:

He landed an early one to what I thought was Boychuck’s nose…then they turned and we all saw that boychuck was wearing a visor….likely why White switched to his left and is now in the room

great beat down by White though

  706. habsruleworld says:

Eller I have supported your work ethic from day one Brotha.

It’s now paying off, Great work Martin and Gauthier.  Bye bye Halak

    Guathier is a genious

  707. BJT says:

    Haha! Thanks man!

Formerly known as Camel_Larry.. ‘Sub-BAM! What a hit!’ ..”No more Looser on this teams!!” – Canadienboy

  708. JVF says:

Didn’t White get 17 mins in penalties? Thus, he had to go to the dressing room…

  709. 1010 says:

Loved watching Eller keep his legs moving when that bruin ended up on his a$$ after trying to use the body on him. Slowly but surely our team-while fighters they’re not- are getting bigger. OK…DD aside.

    GO HABS…

  710. bigdave says:

Just hope JM doesn’t impose his passive defensive shell on this game!

“The Allo Police Media – a collection of bitter ex-coaches, players and wannabees whose collective lack of success accounts for their present positions in Sports’ equivalent of the Jerry Springer Show”

  711. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Weren’t you one of the peeps here crying about the Halak trade saying how we got robbed?  And now you’re here cheering for Eller?  Hypocrite much?

  712. SeriousFan09 says:

Bruins like to stack their team with uglies so the woman in Boston feel good by comparison.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  713. Shiloh says:

    Marchand is so ugly…………………

  714. Shiloh says:

his mother had to hang sausage from his ears so the dog would play with him.

  715. samTHEman says:

On Eller’s first goal: They practiced that play all morning. Eller, Desharnais, Pacioretty, Halpern, and White with Muller. Glad it paid off

  716. OneTimer says:

haha, dix sur dix mon ami!

  717. TheMock780 says:

The Bruins may be big, but man their D is as slow as the death of the Phoenix Coyotes

  718. Rugger says:

    After the 4th goal

  719. EricInStL says:

Wow should watch the NESN feed more often…

But when will the Bruins thuggery start ?

  723. Paulin98C says:

  737. Jordio-oh says:

even without that goal tonight, Eller still looks like an nhl player. i don’t care what anyone says

  753. Mr. Habs says:

  754. HabFanSince72 says:

Why is our biyatch Tim Thomas not starting?

  755. doogmac says:

i think white went to the room because he got a 10 with that instigator penalty. why sit in the box when you can sit in the dressing room

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  763. Da Hema says:

Yes, it was wrong of Martin to insist Sergie show up to team meetings on time.

  764. Da Hema says:

It’s hard for a rookie to learn how to be an NHL centre from the start. Best to do a little apprenticing on the wing.

  765. madhabsfan says:

Yeah, makes no sense.  RDS and TSN are the same company

RDS has sole broadcast rights in Quebec.

  768. Black Jacques Halak says:

According to the Bell rep, it is because RDS owns the rights to montreal games etc etc etc.

Did some one at RDS complain that TSN was stealing their audience?

  769. JVF says:

JM didn’t mishandle Eller because he reads HIO and heeds our sage advice!

He did, however, mishandly SK74, Lats, O’Byrne, Grabowski, et al.

  770. larisalapointe says:

Marchand is a POS…no scratch that…even his mother finds him ugly. lol

  771. oshawahabsfan says:;

  797. Black Jacques Halak says:

Anyone else notice that TSN regional, Bell 1402 is blacked out? (I am in Montreal and enjoyed watching it in the past).

    Not available in my area?

    What the Heck?

  798. _Habsoloutly_ says:

3/4 of this place wanted Eller sent down.  Kid was working his butt off and all the peeps here could say was “send him to Hamilton”.  Not to mention the halak loving trolls and morons.

  800. Da Hema says:

The refs were right in the White call, however using the bizzaro logic of the NHL, Boston should of had like 3 of them during the last game in Boston.

Too bad it’s our national sport as it would be so easy to make fun of this bush league.
