Best-case scenario

The ideal, from where I’m sitting:

• Canadiens beat Toronto to maintain momentum, but

• Pittsburgh beats Philadelphia on Sunday, relegating Canadiens to second in the Eastern Conference and a first-round date with the seventh seed …

Ottawa Senators, with no Daniel F. Alfredsson, no Mike Fisher, no secondary scoring, no confidence, a defence in shambles and a goaltender who looks as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

This matchup could also happen if Canadiens finish first because they beat Toronto and then Philadelphia beat the Penguins to move past Ottawa into seventh.

But a Boston loss and a Philadelphia win elevates the Flyers to sixth and drops the Bruins into eighth … I think.

This is giving me a headache.
