Auld had the kind of season that earns a new contract. Picking up Budaj instead because he’s younger is one of those stupid decisions that comes out of a committee. What other team would dump a solid, inexpensive back-up who won most of his games and was a good mentor to their budding super-starter?
The Habs make some f-n DUMB personnel decisions.

But not a lot of vets were close to being stellar this preseason, is what I mean.

Budaj is 28 and he has always sucked. He isn’t going to get better. Ever.
Haven’t seen a lot of him when he was with the Avs, to be honest, but just simple common sense here:
Budaj=backup=less good than Price=less good than the guy who allow 3 goals a game when in preseason playing with the kids.
Conclusion: Chill Out.
Now if he sucks playing with the big boys, we’re in doodoo, I agree.
I know, logic doesn’t have its place on the internet. But let’s try.

i was very surprised when the Habs signed Budaj. He simply isn’t an NHL calibre goalie.

I guess Price is playing about 70+ games this season….

Auld last year and Budaj this year? Surely he could have done better, This is Flyers-calibre goaltending strategy.
Honestly I’d give him 10 games over the next few months and if he doesn’t stack up bring up Lawson instead
If by few you mean 10 months then OK.
Price can’t play as much as he did last season or they risk fatigue. 2 seasons in a row of 90% workload? No, they need a good backup that can take 20 games or so.
Put in Aebischer or Racicot!
If you figure Budaj should have stopped at least goals #2 and #6, the score would be respectable. Not bad considering who’s on the roster.
Edit: He probably should have stopped Goal# 7 as well, the angle was really sharp.

Anyone else think that the Trotter kid has showed some real creativity in his starts?
What do you all think about grabbing Caputi off waivers from the Laffs? Here’s a guy who has played half descent hockey when called upon up in the NHL…he is only 22 years old, 6’3, 200lb winger. Might be a good option if we were to get into injury trouble and need a big winger who can actually score on one of the bottom lines…
Have you seen the Leafs’ forwards? Maybe the worst in the league. If he can’t make it there he can’t make it anywhere.
Not a bad idea, I like the kid. He had 111 pts one year in the OHL, so he’s got to have some puck skills, and likes to hit.
I suppose his development must have stalled if he’s one waivers now at 22, but he’d make just about the minimum in the NHL, so there’s nothing to lose. Can’t have too much depth.
Palushaj has real good 3rd periods, like it!
Palushaj is having a pretty good game tonight and I honestly believe he is better than what he has shown so far. His play up to this point has looked like a lot of nervousness/jitters to me. If you’ve seen him in interviews, he’s definitely putting a lot of pressure on himself.
Love the hate of our own players. Way to go Palushaj. That’s 1g 3a this preseason for him.
It appears that Palushaj and Willsie spent the second intermission studying their bus tickets to Hamilton.

The Henry/Thorton fight goes back a few years ago when The Habs wore those crazy barber shop sweators in a game against The Bruins and Henry & Thorton went at it as well Montreal was first in the division & second in the conference and then had two injuries in the game to Lang & Landresse (sp) and The Habs barely made the playoffs that season…….

The Gomez line has played really well. I know we love Gallagher and Cole, but you gotta give Gomez himself some credit for that.

The preseason so far has been a bit about testing the chemistry between a few key players and a lot about taking a long look at a bunch of minor leaguers who will be called upon when injuries hit. Frustrating to watch, as nothing even approach our Club de Hockey Canadiens has hit the ice yet. But there is a reason why the Habs are playing so many preseason games and it ain’t about previewing the season. It’s all about ordering the depth chart.
The last two exhibition games should be a different story.

Yaaay Palushaj and Willsie did something.
Martin has gone to school this training camp.
He sees Doug Jarvis’s team on the other side, winning all face offs and controlling the puck on special teams. Even when they are short handed.
He is learning how his defensive style is far superior in winning hockey games.
I know it is pre season and he is keeping his powder dry so as to have a great look at the kids.
So the cuts come tomorrow and the real work begins getting this roster fireing on all cylinders. Only 10 days until the real deal.
I remember watching Ribeiro, Ryder and Chouinard play together at the WJC and my optimism turning to pessimism.
RDS crew ragging on Pouliot — Benoit Brunet just said he had seen him fall several times this evening and bemoaned his lack of application in spite of his undeniable talent. I guess PG might know what he’s doing, at least sometimes? Doesn’t sound like Pouliot made a whole bunch of friends in Montreal, not even amongst the partisan RDS crew.
Also Boone, Jarred Tinordi for Team USA and Daniel Pribyl for Team Czech Republic if they can keep their profiles up.
Also folks: Daniel Pribyl scored his first Extraliga goal today, it was his 3rd game of the season.

Even if it’s preseason it hurts when a bruins fan tells you they could beat you shorthanded….
i still think we will have a lot of the same type of games as last 2 years winning 2-1 or 2-2 in o/t win…we have been one of the lowest scoring teams the last 2 years and our lack of scoring will not suddenly improve by a great amount….we will still have 6 forwards in the line up who may not score more than 6-8 goals and i am not sure our d will generate more goals and points than last year

I don’t know what happened, this kid was dominating in the Calder Cup playoffs. Perhaps he always starts slow and then picks it up? Not a good thing though.. he’s playing for a roster spot here.

Looking at all our games to date we clearly suck. Same problem we have faced for the past decade…CAN”T SCORE!! Not a lot of promise this year.
I agree, our OHL/AHL mashed up team with a few NHL veterans can’t seem to score at all.
Would it be too much of a stretch to say that it’s possible we’re all guilty of over estimating what the Habs will do this year?
