A PERFECT road game.
And an eighth shutout for Carey Price.
Who knows how JM’s mind works?
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Thats what I was thinking. LOL

Note the new digs! but yeah I’m still on Twitter!
I for one am astonished the HABS for once have an ironman. I thought that wasn’t possible? We always get stuck with the injury prone or whiney (Tanguay….)
This hockey, man. He could have anything from a broken neck to Asperger’s Syndrome.
It hit the pressbox? Someone’s been juicing that sucker up.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Sort-of-rhymes-with-”loot”-bags…
Fresh-fruit bags?
The Molson cannon just fired a tee-shirt into he pressbox. Guess who was in the right place at the right time?
Dustin Boyd?
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Sitting out a few games to watch, reflect and adjust his game last year sure didn’t seem to harm Carey Price, judging from his performance.
Sometimes you need a kick in the rear from your coach to get the message. And maybe it is something different, such as a nagging injury. With the amount that Subban gets run by the other team, I wouldn’t be shocked if that were the case. And the team certainly wouldn’t advertise it if it were the case, as the opposing players would target him even more if they knew he had a nagging injury, much the way they did when Komisarek’s nagging injuries became known in his last couple of seasons here.
Craig Anderson was never starter-quality under he worked with Groulx though, he’d been bouncing around the league until a couple seasons working with Groulx and now he’s the #1 goalie for the Avalanche.
Melanson tried to make Carey switch his style, that style that had to that point, had led him to the most successful single-season performance in junior goalie history with the WJC, CHL honours not to mention his AHL Playoff MVP title. He tried to change Price and it did nothing but damage his ability. Groulx got him back to playing the way he should play.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
PK SUBBAN’s name is on the score sheet for nhl.com.
But does it mean he is playing???
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
Could be, but then you’d think it’d be Gorges sitting, not PK. Who knows the mind of Martin, the guy is made of stone
Gomez better work hard, he’s now 1 goal behind Ilya Kovalchuk!
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
“Looking at every goalie he’s coached they’ve all turned in great performances consistently.”
The same could be said of Roland Melanson, with the exception of one young kid who is widely acknowledged to have had questionable work habits until he was forced by Jacques Martin to fight for his job last season.
Price was pretty much expected to be the #1 goalie for Canada’s world junior team when he was 18, but turned in a poor season and had a poor tryout with the team, ultimately losing a job that was his to lose to Justin Pogge. Melanson had little, if anything, to do with that failure on Price’s part.
Price was a young kid who needed to get his butt kicked. Martin did it, and we’re seeing the rewards of that. I don’t see any reason to point solely to Groulx for this, as he was also in place last season when Price had his worst year as a professional.
Instead, I think the credit belongs to Melanson & Groulx as goalie coaches, Martin as a head coach who finally forced Carey Price to become accountable as a professional hockey player and most of all to Carey Price himself for re-dedicating himself to his craft and learning the very, very hard lesson that was given to him last year when he lost his job as the #1 goalie.
By the way, Groulx was only the goaltending coach in Florida for two seasons (2007-08 and 2008-09)…prior to that, he served as the video coach for the Panthers for two seasons after five seasons as the Ottawa Sentors’ video coach. So I’m not sure we really have that much of a sample set on which to judge his efficacy…he’s only coached 4 goalies at the NHL level (Vokoun, Anderson, Halak and Price), with three of those goalies already somewhat establishing their career arcs before he began his tutelage.
Btw – does anyone know what Gorges injury is? He’s playing through it lately, but what is it? When did he suffer it? I mean he gets banged up night in and night out, it’s hard to tell. Ironman-Josh is a warrior
Just a theory. Maybe PK was sitting not only because of his gaffes. Maybe he was tired and possibly hurting a bit. And maybe Webber’s role will be to relieve players when they need a small break from the action. It’s good to have depth in the D like that and it could result in much fewer injuries.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Dave – I doubt that Calgary would ever let Iginla go, but if they did it would cost the Habs a fair bit. He has two more years to go (after this year) at $7M a season so that might negate re-signing Markov. Everyone is ready to spend the Hamrlik cap space but most of that is going to have to go to shoring up the D. We would also have to re-sign Price and Subban in the last year of Iginla’s contract. Our top six forwards would be making a combined $34M before we even look at the remaining 16 players.
Then there’s what Calgary would want in return. They need to save face with their fans (especailly after Burke picked their pocket) so at least two regulars need to go the other way. Who would they be? Well it won’t be Boyd. As well, they would want a top prospect, probably two. I’m not talking about the Hamilton wannabes, it would be more like Kristo, MaxPac, or Tinordi.
We’re talking about a premiere player who is the face of the franchise and plays for Team Canada. He won’t come cheap.
Don’t know if this is official or not, but here’s what their saying on CJAD
http://www.cjad.com/Blog/HabsNews/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10169961
RDS is reporting that it could be Gorges sitting today meaning both PK and Webber would play.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I agree with JM if PK sits another game…the kid is very talented but still raw and needs to refine his game to be less individual and more team focused…we win or lose as a team…his flambouyance and soo bee doos are exciting but too risky in the big league…HE IS A ROOKIE!
Sitting out a few games to watch , reflect and adjust his game will not break him..I believe it will only help improve his game and very quickly he will be even more reliable that he i.s today.
i say give gumby (gorges) a rest.
i think he’s playing hurt. (i think he always plays a bit hurt, he absorbs everything)
Groulx deserves a ton of credit, as does Habs management for hiring him. Looking at every goalie he’s coached they’ve all turned in great performances consistently.
Martin should definitely be considered for the Adams, however this sitting Subban thing is making me skeptical. It’s very easy to see Subban is one of the best defensemen and players on this team when you look at his play in all 3 zones and the underlying numbers. Ridiculous to keep him out of the lineup in favour of Picard.
So if I understand you correctly, you would prefer to have the Habs be a one D team, if PK’s out the D sucks. I would prefer a shut out to show that no matter who plays, the D is solid.
Pete – An interesting and detailed post. I agree with many of your points and player evaluations.
Hamrlik was great last year when Markov was injured but he kind of fell apart near the end from overuse. Spacek runs pretty hot and cold and is doomed to play the right side. Picard seems calm, cool and collected and should be able to play 3rd pairing minutes throughout the year. Weber has just played one game so who knows what he can handle, especially when playoff style hockey begins.
MAB and Johnsson? They can both move and shoot the puck but are shaky in their own end. Health issues are are also a concern for both players. As well, neither guy brings any kind of a physical presence to the game. Top pair minutes? In their dreams.
In terms of the elusive sixth forward, I think we have to be careful when we automatically assume that MaxPac or Eller can handle the job during the playoffs. Both these guys are pretty raw with very limited NHL experience. They show promise but may be a few years away from being able to handle a pressure packed role. Pouliot probably stands the best chance, but if that’s going to happen then he needs to take on the role right now. Let him get climatized to the position before the playoffs begin. Moen gets an A for effort but doesn’t belong on a top line.
RDS reporting Martin is sitting PK again….
What the heck is this guy thinking!?!?!
Mr. Molson, please fire him!
Like i say, I’m knocking Subban, I love the kid!! However, what he did in Edmonton was stupid, and unfortunately, Martin won’t put up with that. I seriously dont think Martin is doing it to hurt the kid, nor to hinder his style, it’s a simple “Don’t do stupid shit like that when we are leading the game” message, nothing more. PK will get it, come back and thill us all once more … just not when were leading in the 3rd

If anyone other than puckdaddy wrote an article like that I’d consider it. Say Bob Mac, or Jason M lol, heck especially Julie.
They Call Me Shane
Hard to say, because I suggest if we lost Plekanec we’d have a far worse record. Price can only stop so many you know.
I’d say so. To put up the kind of start he has in this city, in light of all the trade controversy, fan “love,” and so on. But if he gives up four today, trade the bum for a bag o’ pucks!
-Dustin-
I don’t know about you, but if I see Spacek dive and trip up a questionable breakaway one more time…….it’s like he doesn’t even attempt to over skate the guy. Just DIIIIIIIVE – SLASH – another penalty for Spacek. He drove me nuts all last season with that stuff.
Whereras I can link a nice video of Subban not only overtaking the skater, but pokechecking the puck with touching him illegally. That to me is worth more than a failed soobie-doo or two.
It’s nice to see Price get recognized, but to be honest, I’d say no. Vezina maybe. He is playing outrageosuly well but give credit to JM’s system. Credit the Habs with making goalies look great. It’s part of their tradition. I’d love to see Price get some hardware though. One that gets his initials engraved on it.
I seriously think JM shoud be a coach of the year candidate though. Anybody who thinks this team’s success doesn’t lie squarely on JM’s shoulders doesn’t know squat about hockey.
Pierre Groulx (thanks for correcting me a few threads ago guys) has worked wonders with Price and has undone Melanson’s damage so he should be given kudos as well.
If true that is just a completely ridiculous decision by JM. Why not give Spacek a break or Gill? Yes, Gill is sometimes fantastic shorthanded but FFS: You scratch your most talented D-Man and let one of the slowest in the league play for the second consecutive game? I really hope we play a real bad game defensively and get a lucky and undeserved 6-5 win in OT.
Clearly this afternoon start has shaken my game. I haven’t even gotten a chance to start thinking (drinking) yet. Thank you for setting me straight!
-Dustin-
I’d say he pretty damn close Steve. The only other player I would look to right now is Crosby, considering the start that the Pens had. That kid is a hockey machine.

In this world of equals, one should always carry a measuring stick.
that article is barely readable. so many ads and other stupid shit strewn throughout. damn yahoo!
he’s gotta be considered at this point, though.
What are you talking about Dustin, being an HI/O member entitles us to second guess every one of the coach’s decisions! Don’t you know we’re on the same level as him? Shape up your attittude son
Anybody know why we are playing at 2, is Bieber back again tonight? I know Boone has tickets…
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
- Bilbo Baggins
Agreed! I liked his game better when he was just a jerk!
-Dustin-
I can’t agre that PK has been the worst, but I agree that he seems to be the only one taking crazy chances that are costing us big goals. That being said, you can’t sit the vets who aren’t making those kinds of mistakes.

I had been one of Martin’s biggest critics, but he’s proven me wrong over the past year or so. From my perspective, I don’t understand sitting PK again today. My perspective, however, is from the edge of my couch with a cold one in hand. I’m glad I don’t get paid to make the hard decisions.
-Dustin-
Anyone going to the Habs game in Minnesota, March 20?
Stubbs reports Gorges is taking warm-up but is questionable, JM will not confirm Subban’s status for the game.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
You’re joking right? Gill – allowing several breakaways, Spacek and Hamr not being able to clear the zone, etc? Gorges having bobbling issues in our own end?
I say our D in general has had issues the past few games. If not for the epic PK abilities we’d be calling for their heads. Really silly to suggest PK is the worst of the bunch.
PK’s game changed when he started respecting his opponents.
BTW it’s Weber
Not really, Gill and Spacek have had some very bad outings in the last stretch. Our over-35 crew tend to have good and bad nights and we don’t know when those nights are going to be.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
As long as the team plays team defense your post becomes moot. Markov absence hurts short-term but the Habs got by without him for most of last season and most of the play-offs. Their achilles heel was up front against the Flyers. They got shut-out in 3 of 5 games. Markov in the line-up might’ve changed a few goose eggs bit invariably it was the inability of the forwards to penetrate the dirty zones that killed them in that series.
The expression if it aint broke…..
I’d rather the Habs wait until the trade deadline to see what’s available. If at any point a team is desperate it’s still better to deal from a strong position. I doubt that the Habs are going to sell the farm at a one-off anymore. Building a championship team takes time and baby steps.
My choice is that the Habs get a true bonafide top 6 power forward, with soft hands and that can scrap. Iginla would be the type of player I’d hope the Habs seek out. Hopefully Calgary decides to rebuild and tank a few seasons like Edmonton is doing. If that’s the case the Habs would have to give something up, but not need to completely lay bare the cupboards.
Nevertheless, it’s still early in the post-Markov era. Let’s see how the cards fall after the December road trip. If the Habs prove to be road warriors then I’d say stay the course. If not I’d have to say cross that bridge when we get there.
Fearless prediction:If habs trail in this game. Will hear some PK! PK! PK! PK! from the stands.
Ridiculous to sratch your third best player…
for 2 mistakes…after playing 25min….off course when you try you make mistakes…maybe he should just flip the puck on the glass all the time…that way JM wont scratch him…great decision
Completely disagree. Gill has been atrocious during that time. Gorges has been struggling ever since he got his injury. Spacek only looks good when Hamrlik is playing his ass off.
This will be controversial but …
I would suggest that over the last 10 games or so PK has been our worst defenceman. He makes more mistakes than the others, some of which lead to goals. He has not figured out how to be the qb on the pp.
He’s going to be a good one for sure, but right now I’m not sure he deserves to play if Webber can continue to do the job (a big if).
Andrei Markov has been the Habs ATOI leader the past several years, a top five PP QBack who produces more points than most 2nd line players in the NHL, and a top pair D-man on most NHL teams. It is almost impossible to overstate the importance of Markov to the Habs defense, despite recent team success without his services.
With Markov out for remainder of season – is there support within the Habs organization to cover top pair minutes?
· Although PK has the confidence of a future top pair D-man, recent events show that it may be best for his growth and Habs long term success for JM to slot PK as 2nd / 3rd pairing with bonus PP time, for now.
· That leaves Hamrlik, Spacek, Gill, & Gorges. Probable over short term, possible for remainder of season, and questionable if Habs have significant playoff hopes.
· Hamrlik and Spacek are prime candidates to wear down if top pair minutes on a regular basis.
· Gorges is a solid #4 D-man and has been Habs ATOI leader this season.
· Gill as #5 works. Terrific on PK, a team leader, but susceptible to speed burn from top line forwards.
· Picard has performed admirably as #6 / 7. Not a top 4 for Habs.
· Weber performed well against NJ and can assist the PP but has not yet shown consistent top 6 D-man skill.
· Carle is a lighter mix of Picard & Weber, and may not get another look.
What I am suggesting is that there is no true #1 D with Markov out, no current top flight #2, at least four D-man that fill spots #3 & 4, and a competent mix of last pairing. Does this cast resemble a top 4 playoff seed?
A number of posts suggest the Habs should bring in a top 6 forward with the LTIR $$. Really? Really?? JM appears to have internal options to fill the 2nd line opening (Pouliot, Eller, MaxPac) when & if he feels the need. Yes, the D has been successful up to this point, but could we not agree that JM’s Team D philosophy and CP’s Vezina like start have as much or more to do with the Habs success? What happens when CP has several tough outings? Is this D strong enough to cover? Is there is one D-man on the roster capable of playing top pair minutes over the long haul?
Should PG be seeking a top flight D option outside the organization?
UFA signing? (MAB / Kim Johnsson) How many of us were holding a collective breath with MAB in the D zone last year or how about on the PP where a relatively simple pass would inexplicably leap over MAB’s stick, creating a SHG rush by the opposing team? Yes, there was the booming shot and several PP goals, but I would ask you if there has been a less reliable D-man in a Habs uni over the last several years?
Trade now? Habs Org depth is starting to rally over the last couple years – does PG trade valuable assets for a top pair D-man? Keep in mind there are only a handful in the NHL that may be available and note that PG would not be dealing from a position of strength if seeking a trade based on need over the next few months.
Wait for Feb 28th trade deadline / short term rental? Maybe. Would hope any PG move to bring in a D-man would be for more than a short term rental. With Hamrlik and Gill UFA at end of season, with the need to lock Gorges up LT, and with the uncertainty of Markov’s future, the D situation may become a serious issue going forward.
This setback will impact negotiations and term potential on Markov retention, but as several posters have noted “ Markov at 80% is better than anything the Habs could possibly find on the market”. PG will likely sign this 32 yr old for multiple years, as Habs Mgmt & fans know that Markov has a Canadian size heart to match the citizenship status.
Just a few pre-game musings from punkster’s armchair:
ugh, will have to sit price in fantasy tonight, i think.
i have thomas, bryz and price. bruins vs. leafs (thomas better start!), coyotes vs. panthers.
not to be a debbie downer, but i like the other guys’ chances more than price’s
The Sharks are shakiest on their D right now, and both their goalies can be really inconsistent. Logan Couture is a talent to watch, but the forwards whiff the puck a lot, and they can play a horrid passing game that makes some of my friends out here drink. If the Habs can play the full 60 they should be able to break the W-L streak they have going on.
Well folks, just woke up and remembered that todays game was on @ 2pm.
Since I have nothing to do today, that is just wonderful news! The “A” game better be in place and for the full 60 minutes. That
line of Thorton, Marleau & Heatley can burn you at any moment if
your not carefull. Let’s also not forget, Clowe & Couture. I am sure
Couture is still riding the high from his 2 goal performance against
Ottawa.
Bold prediction: Cammalleri gets 2, including the game winner!

Read my original reply, and tell me what statement was wrong, Andrew. And please tell me where I’ve inferred that you are wrong. I did nothing but state MY OPINION. Who do you think you are to then state that my opinion, which I have formed on my years of watching hockey, is less correct than your own? THAT is unreasonable, and if you can’t see how that is so, then this conversation is pointless.
You can not be wrong when stating an opinion. I can disagree with your opinion, but I can’t in good conscience state that you are wrong in that opinion because I am discounting your ability to form your own opinions. I disagreed with you, I posted my reasons, and nowhere did I attack you. The only fact I will claim to have posted was that Groulx has only served as a goaltending coach for 2 seasons previous to coming to Montreal. Based on that fact, I stated my opinion that there is hardly enough of a body of work on which to judge Groulx’s ability to work with goaltenders.
Your reply, that I was wrong based on the first year performance of Melanson with Luongo behind a banged up patchwork defence in Vancouver this season, was confrontational. Do you not see the utter inanity of that comment being used to reinforce your argument that Groulx hasn’t failed with a goalie when you look at the year Carey Price had last year? Seriously…that is some seriously flawed logic.
You take issue with my saying that Vokoun had an off-year, basing your rebuttal on his save percentage. Take a look at his goals against average versus the numbers he posted before and after that season as well as his career average…is it not equally fair for me to base my opinion on that number? Are we not both basing our arguments on “observable facts”, as you called it? So who is wrong, then? Does somebody have to be wrong?
You’re free to disagree with me, stop acting like I’m being unreasonable, Chris. It’s petty and immature. You’re allowed to be wrong too, you know.
Don’t know what info you’re using, because Vokoun has been above his career average numbers every year in Florida for save%. You stated that the same things could be applied to Melanson, but they can’t. He’s been very limited for several years now, basically good with about half the goaltenders he’s worked with, bad with the other half. Bad for Luongo and Price, good for Halak and Huet. Groulx has been good for Vokoun, Anderson, Price and Halak. Unquestionably. This isn’t a matter of opinion, Chris. It’s very simply observable. So yes, your statment was incorrect. You were wrong.
Should I point out that Vokoun had one of his worst seasons the first year he played for Groulx? Or that Carey Price had his worst season as a professional last year while working under Groulx? Does that make you wrong too?
We differ in opinion. Doesn’t make either of us right or wrong.
The need to be “right” or annoint the other side as “wrong” is pretty lame, Andrew, and completely beneath you. Take that advice how you wish.
And Roberto Luongo, who’s been atrocious all season, so you’re wrong.
Must be serious to shelve him. He took a slapshot off the bucket last season and , if not mistaken, only missed the next practice.

PK’s name officially OFF the roster.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…
After the “what are they trying to tell me” maybe he should just be glad that it was not a diaper.
Give him Kovy’s hands, he’d be a Canadian Bure.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
I would be a little surprised if the Habs featured 3 of the league’s top 20 scorers. Partially because I question the talent (I’m not sure Gionta is consistent enough of a scorer to get to such a lofty position), but more because of the nature of the team.
Cammalleri is off to a very slow start and it will be difficult for him to pick up his scoring pace enough to get the roughly 80+ points he would need to be in the top 20. On a team that is seemingly buying into a strong team defence mentality, that becomes even more difficult.
I will be quite happy if Plekanec makes it, but I won’t be upset if he doesn’t as long as the team is still winning the majority of its games on a consistent basis.
Not sure if I would give the Masterton Trophy to Price…he’s a young guy that went through the same growing pains that countless players before him have endured. I agree it is harder in Montreal, where the market sometimes eats its young.
I think the Habs have a better candidate in Mathieu Darche, a guy who is, against all odds and expectations, playing a pivotal role on a very good hockey team. The rejuvenation of Jeff Halpern, a good guy who saw his career potentially end after a catastrophic knee injury while representing his country in the World Championships back in 2008, is another feel-good story on a team that seems to have a lot of them.
The Masterton Trophy? I doubt it. It usually is given to a player who overcame great physical ailment or a deep personal tragedy.
Joffrey Lupul makes it back on the ANA roster and contributes, he’d likely win it, him or Kurtis Foster as he continues to play on after the tragedy last summer of losing his infant daughter. Mark Recchi might also win it as something of a lifetime achievement award.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Mark my words both Camellari and Gionta will be close if not over 30gls by the end of the season…as much maligned as they are the talent …. regardless of who they end up playing with will come out. Pleks could have a 30-60 – 90 year this year with the pace he is going. All that being said we have 3 of the top 20 scorers by the end of the year. They are too good not to be.
Price provin everyone wrong…this story should be the biggest in the NHL…he should getthe masterson for dealing with the montreal press and coming back. I think we all forget how much he was villified and how much his own personal character was called out and questioned by people who didn’t even know him. This story is big but it should be bigger. Everyone is waiting for the hammer drop on Price and the damn to let go but i don’t think it will …. he is going to be like this for a long time. We kept the right one and got us a pretty good PF in return
GO HABS GO
He hasn’t had one really bad game yet. That, in and of itself is truly remarkable.

“A very soft Gomez forecheck”.
The way Gomez has been playing I doubt he could check his own baggage.

Plekanec is such a brilliant player. Seems to struggle and then he just breaks out.
FINALLY! Plekanec!
See, get shots on goal! This is Niemi for god sakes!
Cammalleri looks like Kostitsyn last season…uninterested. He skates three strides and then tries to beat 2 guys on the boards. He should hustle like the Captain instead of seemingly giving up because he doesn’t get to play with Pleks.
I’m still trying to understand how Ferriero is apparently pronounced Ferriault.

Boone before the Habs went up: “I saw the Habs play on their 101st birthday, at home, against a Cup contender, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”
So many good things happened. Weber sprung the forwards. AK46 gained the zone and took the hit to spring Tomas Jagr. Then Pleks made a couple of magic moves. A thing of beauty.
Depsite the shot count, I don’t feel that SJ is dominating the game. It’s a pretty lethargic effort from both sides, if you ask me.

Does anyone else think this site would benefit from some sort of a real-time chat implementation? I’m not sure how it would be integrated, but I’m sure it’s feasible. The commenting system is kind of old-fashioned for this sort of a context. Then again, I’m a teenager with no patience. How is Moen still in the top 6? Is it his bullet of a shot or is it his on ice vision to find the open man with the puck?
Habs much better in the last part of that period.
J Thornton is such a d!ck. I think every interview I’ve ever seen him when he’s played against MTL he has said something like “we’re the better team, they are just hanging on.”
I enjoy the fact that his legacy will be that of the biggest playoff disappearing act in recent NHL history.
I don’t think it’s a confidence issue…I think his ego is getting in the way.
CBC just threw up a bar graph of shots taken by each line… i’m not sure why I find that funny. And then Stock talked about european legs and pleky spreading his…
Nope, loved it!

Will he keep the streak alive?
Gomez is a goal-a-game player in the post-Movember era.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Chokin’ Joe can shove it, perennial disappointment in a clutch situation. The no-show of Marleau-Thornton-Heatley when it mattered at the OLY was pathetic. Toews could create more momentum in 5 seconds than Thornton could for his whole shift.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Peacock shoulda said. “So, Plekanec owns you in the playoff circle so far, eh?” LOL

Weber is not so stellar today, but the D is playing well sans Markov and Subban vs. a power offense team. Price is playing well, but the Habs D deserves more credit (I especially like Picard and Georges this aft) than you are giving them Mr. Boone. You certainly are down on our division leading, game leading team. Always expecting the worst and highlighting the negative.
On that note, Moen is just brutal out there. He drags Cam way down by making him the only option.
Eller, Darche and Benny deserve the credit you are giving them.
Pleks is a force.
That’s hilarious that Thornton thinks he’s on the better team, considering his team is 14 places behind the Canadiens.
Gomez has consistently played himself onto the 4th line this season…good to finally see him there…next stop the press box.
Just do it already JM…he is a liability out there the way he is playing.
So many turnovers in our own end. Spacek is brutal. The play is sloppy. I think these players really don’t like afternoon games. The Sharks are still on west coast time playing a morning game. Darche and Pouliot with Halpern, good line. Darche and Pouliot with Ellar, better line. Sure would be nice to pull one out here.
Yep. Keep em down to 5 shots? lol? I hope they do and all 5 go in you arrogant SOB. Durr we had the momentum the whole period, that’s why we are down a goal and can’t hold on to the puck.
Yeah I wasn’t happy we signed him. Pleasantly, just like Moore and Halpern, I am proven wrong. Our GM is a wiley one.
Sharks hits 26-17 Habs have 13 giveaways to the Sharks 2

The last time I saw Weber play in the NHL was last year, on that September west-coast trip. He was horrific and directly responsible for about 5 goals in 3 games.
He’s come a long way. I actually think he’s been pretty good so far today.
I understand Gomez’ demotion to the 4th line but, how useles is Cammy with Halpern and Moen. The new 2nd line should be Eller, Benny and Cammy (atleast for this game).
———————————-
Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant.
Huh…
A little too exciting…
But nice to watch game with volume up without waking up neihgboors.
I have my laptop connected to TV and TV connected to my Geneva soundsystem… Sweet, feels like the crowd screams in my livingroom
Any thoughts on when Auld will or should play next?
I am very happy with Price’s play, but I am concerned that he’s played so much and may get burnt out (like he did some seasons ago).
We face OTTAWA at home on Tues, DETROIT away on Fri, and TOR away on Sat.
Is anyone even worried when we get penalties anymore? I basically “meh, they’ll kill it”.
He had one potentially disasterous shift in the second, but otherwise I agree he has played within his means.
————————
An important announcement from the Government of Canada:
Health Canada is reminding Canadians that consumption of the Toronto Maple Leafs has led to vomiting, fever, bloody diarrhea, dementia, and penile dysfunction.
I’d give Auld Toronto. One of the weakest teams in the NHL, despite the rivalry.
a) you just mentioned it
b) he’s not working on one

Ridiculously short sited to be sitting again. Whether we win or lose it’s a mistake.
This is a mistake the Habs will feel in this game.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
I think that is the key right there. The weight that was on him this year, the pressure, (remember the first preseason game?), and the way he has played is remarkable. Another well earned first star. MVP I say, never mind the Vezina
Consistency is probably the best trait that you can have in a starting goaltender. And he’s been nothing if not consistent.
Stock analyzing Subban’s turnovers…Sad.

Just one more reason to watch RDS
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
What’s even more sad is that he’s right about Cammalleri being more to blame on both plays. When Stock is right about something I’m always shocked.
Stock analyzing hockey is like making a blind man the curator of the Louvre.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Wut? CBC says not happy with the last 10 games with Subban?
I’m at a loss. I don’t get it anymore and I’m beginning to hate this coach more and more. Sorry.
Looks at avatar_58′s picture…
No, but seriously. I’m surprised at him getting benched a second game in a row. I think one was sufficient.
The 5 best teams in the league are:
Washington, Detroit, Montreal, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
4 of the 5 best teams are in the Eastern Conference.
Of course the Habs have to keep it up but this year’s Eastern Conference play-offs is going to be a dandy with serious grudge matches brewing!!!!
Habs need to be more consistent versus Philly. Once they solve that nugget – lookout
Washington still scares me the most. I think they needed the upset by Montreal in last year’s playoffs to truly understand what it takes to win in the NHL, much like the run-and-gun Oilers of the 1980′s needed to lose to the Islanders before they could win. They got away from their game plan against the Habs, something Boudreau should never have allowed, and started trying to play too individually. The fact Ovechkin has been in a bit of a funk this season and Green’s focussing more on defence and yet they are still #1 overall indicates how strong they are.
If McPhee can land the Capitals a bona fide veteran #1 goalie, that team has too much talent to not be a significant threat to go all the way. With Alzner and Carlson in Washington for a full season, their defence corps is MUCH more mobile than it was last season.
Nonetheless, it does look like an interesting hierarchy that is developing. Don’t count out Boston in that “elite” 4, as they are only 6 points back with 3 games in hand on the Habs. They are also the only other team than the top 4 that has a +20 or higher goal differential on the season.
Man CBC’s budget is bad… Can’t even afford combs or hair products for their on-air crew.

Agreed 100%. Although it’s not even a competition between Crosby and Ovechkin right now, Ovechkin is so far back he can’t even see Sidney’s dust trail.
As much as some posters dislike him, I can’t think of a better signing over the past few years than Roman Hamrlik.
He (not Cammalleri or Gionta) was the first marquee unrestricted free agent to sign in Montreal. Yes, the coin is probably a bit high, but the guy plays heavy minutes against the other teams’ best players. He has been a great mentor for young defencemen. He plays the second wave of the PP and PK, and does reasonably well in those roles. When called upon, he has filled in quite admirably for Markov when he’s gone down to injuries the past two seasons.
He’s not fast, he’s not flashy, but he gets his job done. And in the first couple of rounds, he and Spacek were pretty solid in their back end. Especially against Washington, where they were called upon to mark Ovechkin, perhaps the most dangerous individual player in the game (note the italics…I still think Crosby is a more complete hockey player).
He’s played out his contract and does his job without complaint, even when his name got caught up in that awful Mobgate BS three seasons ago. As much as many are writing him off next season, I look at the UFA rolls for next summer and I don’t see that many defencemen that are significant upgrades on Hamrlik. If he could be re-signed on a year-by-year basis (and fat chance to that, but I can dream), he is certainly worth considering, albeit only if the contract comes down a bit.
Speaking of Hamrlik, here’s what Cammy had to say about him:
“He’s surprising when we do bag skates. He can go forever. He’s like a mule out there.” Arpon Basu interjects that mules aren’t quick. Cammalleri replies “But they keep going and going and going. I didn’t say he was a cheetah, I said he was a mule.”
On behalf of myself, and I am sure many others here will agree, let me just say how happy I am that after your brief hiatus you’ve decided to grace these pages once more with your well written and well thought out insights.
He’s been solid all four years. Not a big fan of his but your post and points are valid. He should be a priority this summer over the other UFA Dman.
Weber looks like a keeper as well. Young and will make mistakes but look to have the skillset of an NHL D man. Handled the Sharks forecheck better than some of his teammates today. Moves the puck and sees the ice very well.
Thank you Chris for sticking up for my favorite Czech D-man!!!! This man has carried the workload while Markov has been consistently injured. Hamrlik has a good sense of both ends of the ice. He pinches well at oppurtune times, and is usually back in time as well. He’s bound to get burnt here and there, he’s not the world’s quickest and he’s pushing on 37. No one in the NHL at that age can fill his shoes as far as I’m concerned. Just wished Hammer would play the body a little more, because when he hits he HITS! I also stand up for Spacek too. Spacek is more sloppy, and I wish that clapper of his would put up more points. I remember worrying about him back when MTL played the Sabres. Martin has had these two vets as the shut-down guys against the Ovechkin’s, Crosby’s and Heatley’s…… and I’ll be damned if they haven’t done an excellent job in that regard!!
Lol @ Laraque..I was ok with the first scratch, and I know Weber played great, good enough to earn another game…but c’mon..
I beleive Laraque is still collecting checks from the Habs, and he can comment at will!
Meanwhile fans were seathing when a 5 time Cup winner and Hall of Famer makes his observations.

JM should be a candidate for the Adams, but pretending all the people who hate JM and bash Gomez are young people is ridiculous. These are for the most part nameless, faceless posters with no names attached.
This all comes down to PrimeTime’s massive superiority complex. Coming in here gloating about being right (which is all PT has EVER done on this site) when he wasn’t right about anything in the first place, he just bitched about people bitching, is not mature. It’s pathetic.
I am sure he wasn’t singling out you but the oher posters who lament Gomez’ salary or the others who think JM is yesterday’s man.
I have had my share of discussions with PT but lately he and I are very much on the same page.
For sure he wasn’t singling out me, he was laying out a blanket insult to everyone he disagrees with because he’s a gutless troll.
My post was not intended to attract response or make “friends”unlike others here…..although I do miss some of the trolls that have dropped off. If you feel personally offended I apologize but it was more a general statememt to remind some here that Teams win, not marquee players. Leave the smaller market teams with the stars to sell tickets… I’ll take a team that wins and creates star players any day.
Besides, if I wanted to take a shot at you I would ask you to remove you pasty white hairy chest of this site but then again you like to show your ink to draw attention to seek approval
Ahem. I agree with PT. He’s very correct. Like all the Gomez bashing. That is the immature talk.
Team play. Team character. Team players. Team defense. All on the same page.
I said it earlier today. JM should be a candidate for the Jack Adams award this year. Kudos to the whole coaching staff.
Why? He did a good job of analyzing the play, and he was right about Cammy on both plays.
Well, if he did that then good on him. I thought he was dissing him from some of the above comments. He’s right about Cammy being at fault.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Really? The coach that took them to the Eastern conference final, and has them sitting first in their division? He is the wrong coach for this team? Maybe he’s wrong about PK maybe he isn’t, who knows?
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
- Bilbo Baggins
I’m hoping Weber has a fantastic game, but Subban is pretty much the only defenseman on this team who can clear the zone under pressure, and we’ll be under a lot of pressure. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Price face 40+ shots.
“Price will have to be heroic.”
If we are to win this game I think that Price will have to steal it.
I get the education schtick but I am a selfish fan and want to see PK play.
No, the player has to be on the lineup that the coach hands over before the game. If he isnt on the lineup then he cant play.
My guess is that Martin saw the Best Buy ad and assumed he had to scratch PK.

HA! I play against him (ref, Ian Walsh) in the summer in men’s league and he’s a douchey player. Couldn’t happen to a better guy!

GO HABS GO!
Nope, a lot of people, including myself were very wrong about Darche.
They definitely have played quite well together. Eller is really starting to come into his own, and the results will keep on piling up for him. And Pouliot is playing like how he should have been playing all along. And Darche is just working hard and getting things done. Good line, for sure.
It is way too early for a hockey game. Do kids really go to bed early on a Saturday?
Not me, never thought he’d be this good and give Darche credit, he seems far better conditioned this season.

The Eller line, Pouliot in particular, is so exciting to watch. And they make smart decisions too.
I wasn’t specifically referring to stats, just from observation lol. They’re not “bad” giveaways, but the other team somehow always ends up getting it, so I’m like “what’s the point” lol.
Agreed. The giveaway stat for a goalie is rather misleading.

Last year Green’s numbers went down from the year before, and media types raved over how much Green had improved his defensive play. I didn’t really see it last year, and sure enough in the playoffs he was as terrible as he was the year before. Washington is #1 because they’re a great offensive team, but I still don’t see any improvement from that team defensively. They still think they can score their way out of trouble in the playoffs, I don’t think they’re going anywhere until they get a more structured coach than Boudreau.
Fire Boudreau and do whatever it takes to get Trotz from NSH.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Yeah I felt the turnover on the winning goal was due to Cammy not watching the play.

Not to mention the tying goal was him making the risky move and putting Subban in a terrible position.
i agree… team canada exposed ovechkin and the habs did as well.
his primitive way of playing is very stoppable
——————
88 is the new 23
I still think he’s the most talented player in the world, but Crosby is by far the hardest worker. He does all the little things perfectly, whereas Ovechkin only cares about on part of the game.
Ah, alright. I’ve only recently started to hang out on here during games, so I have no idea what has been done before, even last season. Thanks.
well they smoked the sens…. as did the oiler, but the oilers beating the sens did not alert the habs to their danger. so wake up boys!
No superstar players and a great team record…..sorry to disappoint the younger generation but I hope you’re learning that team play is better than having a few “stars” ….and YES PG and especially JM get a lot of credit, again much to the younger fans dismay, with the latter potentially winning the Jack Adams.
So few so right and so many so wrong!
Ageist tripe. Grow up and stop trolling for responses if you’re so old, so right, and so mature. Pathetic.
just got in guys to catch the third.
is gomez really demoted to the fourth line?

I don’t understand this comment, if I had a Price pic I can’t comment about him…..I use subban and I’m not allowed to comment on subban….
Forgive me for being a fan…
So… why is Gomez line on against Thornton line? Is it because Gomez and Cammilleri are so amazing defensively? It is, isn’t it?
Question now is, can the Habs hold the lead and pick up 2 pts.? Gut check time for the boys.
Go Habs Go!

Cammy accomplishes what Benny couldn’t manage on 3 occasions tonight: lift the puck lol
What the hckl was Thornton doing on the ice for about 3 minutes, the Sharks deserved to get scored on.
Great work by Hammer – fast as I’ve seen him move in a Habs jersey. Nice finish by Cammy – and I flipped to CBC to hear the reaction by the Hab-hating announcers. “And it’s been all San Jose!!” shrieks Cole. What a maroon..
I’d like to see what happens if JM puts Eller, Darche and Cammaleri to the same line…
Joe Thornton was on way too long on that shift. Overrated!

Haha…I doubt it, but I also may have been wrong about Weber. I still think PK is the better overall option, especially long term, but I have no problem with some competition between the team’s youngest defensemen.
The moment I feared most about the OLY roster was Thornton being selected to it, I knew right there, one guy Team Canada would not be able to rely on in the big games. Thankfully Toews was around to actually get the job done.

I was thinking the same thing as I read this….he WOULD be perfect.
I was thinking the same thing as I read this….he WOULD be perfect.
Oh, ok, I see the confusion now.
I never said “ignored”.
For me to suggest we ignore someone’s opinion isn’t worthy of me at all. Kinda surprised you would think that of me actually.
I’m certain they would find Bettman’s actions very puzzling. I’m sure they would concur that any other CEO who shat all over a major sponsor would be looking for a job. Cohen won the Edward R. Murrow award and is chief analyst for CBS – not Harvey’s Bar and Grill. I don’t think there would be too many with his credentials.
Your sweeping response – that he can (and should) be ignored because he disclosed that he is a fan of the Habs – is not worthy of you.
Let’s see: the best players on each team are injured because they’re targets in a cheap-shot, embarassingly amateurish “major” league. Also, a corrupt league office has, as usualy, deployed a pair of WWE referees to do its bidding. Finally, our tax-payer subsidized “national” broadcaster has sent its C team to deliver the play by play.
Think I’m skipping this one too. Get well soon Max!
Full Breezer 4 Life
Wanna run that run on sentence by me again Bug? Starting with “It could be just…”. I think you’re asking where the sponsors were on earlier hits? If that’s the case then, hey, there’s always a tipping point, a unique event, that starts the ball rolling. A tsunami doesn’t start on its own. It takes a certain size earthquake in a special location to get it going.
***STOP THE MADNESS***
I don’t know if I would qualify The Atlantic article as a “great piece” considering the author identifies himself as a lifelong Hab fan. I usually like my objectivity NON-partisan as much as possible but what the hell.
The “great piece”-ness of it here seems to be an exact rehash of what everyone else is saying against the NHL in the wake of Chara avoiding suspension.
It could be just as much a “great piece” defending the NHL for not throwing Chara to the wolves to appease its sponsors despite him having not transgressed worse than Cooke on Savard who was also acquitted, according to the rules in place and when same said sponsors were nowhere to be heard from.
I think the “great piece”-ness of it in this situation rests on which you side you agree with.

Mr Boone -
the author of that excellent Atlantic piece is Andrew Cohen.
There is a columnist called Richard Cohen who writes for the Washinton Post and is one of the most insufferable pompous windbags on the American pundit scene. He is the guy who wrote:
“Iraq not only hasn’t accounted for its weapons of mass destruction but without a doubt still retains them. Only a fool — or possibly a Frenchman — could conclude otherwise.”
You’re right. I fixed it.

Meanwhile, last week Steve Simmons (the semi self proclaimed king of all hockey media in Toronto) tried to contact him on the already dead horse beaten topic of teams moving back to Winnipeg or QC.

Once again I just don’t care anymore. I really hope this feeling goes away soon, or at least next season. As of right now I have nothing but disgust for this league. Win or lose, I honestly don’t feel it
Bob Cole’s been released from his cryo chamber early to call the game for CBC.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Didn’t watch last game – and still debating on whether or not I should watch this one.
Oh whatever, I’ll watch it today. But I am just not into it.
I am not sure this is going to change things but imagine if the numbers swell beyond the millions. Maybe it could be one salvo in the process of removing this slime bag from our game. Please sign up to this FB page:

I don’t know, Bugs. The following appears with Cohen’s byline.
Andrew Cohen has served as chief legal analyst and legal editor for CBS News and won a Murrow Award as one of the nation’s leading legal analysts and commentators.
The fact that he is a fan of the Habs doesn’t detract from his inciteful description of the position in which Bettman has placed the league. As an accomplished legal analyst and a Murrow Award winner, I’d give him a pass on his choice of team.
I’m still lacking interest in hockey but I’m going to try and watch this game.
like!
A report from the other side of the world.
I was really surprised to see the MaxPac hit in articles in the London-based Financial Times and the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post today. East Asia is NOT a hockey market. We never get NHL stories here.
The stories were mostly on whether the NHL can suffer blows from the criticism, horrible violence, and sponsors threatening to pull out over health matters like Max Pac’s hit. They made Bettman’s comment about not flying Air Canada to look really stupid.
Of course, they weren’t about the Habs/ Bruins. But Max’s broken neck, and the NHL’s lack of response, seems to be making noise outside hockey circles.
I hate it when the only attention hockey gets is when something goes horribly wrong. But I’m also glad that this issue is getting attention.
Boone — Thanks for the shout-out to Japan. It was a thoughtful reminder that there’s life outside of this game.
Go Habs Go!
Let’s go Habs – win one for Max-Pac.
Ergo, any award-winning chief legal analyst and legal editor would agree with him, yes?
Even if they were.., let’s say, lifelong Bruins fans?
Do you think Bettman will show up at the game Tuesday night in Montreal?
Listen to this,–http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO4XPedB9mA
Too bad that the apologists everywhere will simply point out that Dryden is just another biased Habs fan, that if it was a Canadiens player doing it to a Bruins player he would be silent, ask where was he before on other violent hits, and Gary Bettman himself will say that they can always turn to Rogie Vachon if they want the opinion of a goalie from the 1970s.
Go Habs Go!
In an almost perverse way, I’m actually looking forward to hearing what Don Cherry has to say tonight on Coach’s Corner. See, the last few weeks Don’s been absolutely adamant that Steckel knew what he was doing when he hit Crosby. How’s he so sure? Simple: Steckel never looked back after the collision. Well, Chara never looked back either. And since every single person watching in the rink and at home heard the sickening sound of Max’s skull impacting on the stanchion loud and clear, you’d think that if Chara hadn’t known what he was doing he’d have looked back to see just what the hell had happened. Not to mention the fact that he’s shown next to no remorse – unless you count “huh-huh-huh, unfortunate, huh-huh-huh” as remorse.
Ball’s in your court, Don. Not that I’m holding my breath.
For all those who think that the Chara hit was a hockey hit gone wrong, can anyone show me a clip of an interference play similar to that of Chara’s along the boards on the other side of the rink where, in a similar manner, the defenceman lays out the onrushing player by drilling him head-first into the non-dangerous part of the rink?
I just want to have a comparison. Can’t find one? So defenseman usually don’t interfere by CRUSHING a player into the boards? You’re saying they usually just slow them up? Just as I thought.
All this whinning and moaning, editorial writing, political intervention, corporate self rightousness etc. etc. will do nothing !!! The only people who can effect immediate change in the NHL are the players. They are the ones who make the dangerous hits. They are the ones who choose to make them irregardless of the consequences….whether it be a suspension from the league, or more importantly the injuring of their fellow player. Until they decide to get their heads out of their asses this will not change.
If the league really wants to help in the process I have an idea. Make them start next season wearing pads from the 1940′s. Respect and safety would be established within the first 5 games !!!
I actually think that Cherry will come down very, very hard on Chara. Ron (the Weasel) MacLean will do his level best to carry Bettman’s water.
Benny has got to get going!!
you tube Scott Stevens….In fact ,a crushing hip check given to Bobby Orr who by then had no lateral movement and pretty well ended Orr’s Career, by Larry Robinson to the applause of the fans at the forum!
NO.
That weasel-faced money-grubbing bastard is going to hide his weasel @ss deep down some weasel hole.
Mr. Bettman you are not welcome in Montreal. You have been warned.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Apologies – you did not say ignore. You did suggest that his choice of team precluded the article from greatness. I don’t agree.
But – I’m calling a huge game for Benny this afternoon. Two goals, an assist and a couple of big hits.
No, I’m suggesting his partisanship may preclude his article from objectivity, and that a “great piece” could’ve just as well as been written exposing contrary views.
His article concentrated on legal and CEO-performance issues – neither of which touches on his choice of teams. It would be well-nigh impossible to construct a “great” argument in support of Bettman’s regime.
Boone,
there’s a BIG difference between a nuclear power plant exploded & there was an explosion at a nuclear power plant.
chara = חרה
Not to wish ill will on some fellow human being but…
if Gary Bettman was mugged and the perp shoved him after taking his wallet, I sure hope he sustains a concussion. He’d want the police to catch and prosecute the thug and we’d all call it a walk gone horribly wrong and see nothing wrong “these things happen”.
Just read the Atlantic article. Nice to see this isn’t going to go away. While I don’t want to see another riot, it would be nice to see Bettman remain in the crosshairs along with Chara (and for that matter Lucic after what he did to Dominic Moore) The nepotism/cronyism is absolutely disgusting. As if Murphy isn’t kissing Clarence (oops I mean Colin) Campbells arse. Of course I’m biased, but c’mon! And props to Boone for posting the RT link to the blast at the Nuke station. Maybe a few of the sheep here will dig into RT. Very biased of course, but so is Fox news. Nice to get the other side of the story every once in a while. Kinda like the polar sides in our beloved MaxPac debacle.
OOH AAH – HABS ON THE WARPATH!
Agreed
OOH AAH – HABS ON THE WARPATH!
Ron Wilson, professional moron.
Brian Burke, professional ubermoron.
You know… I don’t remember Ron Wilson having such a cavalier attitude when Kostopolous hit / hurt Van Ryan.
Ron Wilson has a future after coaching with HNIC with stupidity like that.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Ron Wilson the Leafer and the brains of a leaf. Blames the stanchion and now the internet.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Come on now, Boone, they have at least eliminated headshots to Sidney Crosby. After taking them in two straight games, he hasn’t had another in over two months.
Go Habs Go!
His self-importance cracks me up. CBC keeps him (and others) yet dumped Chris Cuthbert.
Someday… maybe… they will lose HNIC to a rival network.
Ron Wilson is a putz…
CBC – full out offensive to assist Buttman and Colon. Since when is Ron F. Wilson an expert on officiating and suspensions? I guess Burke told him to pucker up because Toronto gets the calls and Montreal gets the shaft.
although he is stupid, he’s not completely stupid,
doubt Cherry will go against all of Canada who know it was a travesty not to suspend chara.
even here in Calgary, 70% believe Chara should have been suspended
BC Is up in arms also, they are even more pronounced now that Henrik Sedin has been so vocal about how the NHL F” up by no call on Chara,
Love what Sedin did!
Ah yes, that is correct, forgot about that actually.
im not seeing the goonery – cooke got smoked, and wouldnt answer to ryan white and went after weber
so what – we all know cooke is an idiot, that doesnt mean the pens are turning to thuggery…and rupp is no saint either
I don’t care. I hope he’s on Max’s side, but since I don’t respect his opinion what difference does it make right?
What do CBC/HNIC have to do with comments made by a TO coach? They asked for an opinion and got an answer. It just so happens to be a stupid answer.
Mike,
Wonder if Burke wrote that tirade for Wilson.
Sounded an awful lot like the LAFF company line!
… the fans of the Boston Bruins now have lost forever any right to complain that “the league” is out to get their team, and that the Montreal Canadiens have some kind of pull inside the NHL home office. Charles P. Pierce – Boston Globe
We may dislike Don but he carries weight so if he’s on board and the people he usually calls pinkos are in as well, it helps the cause.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
That is either a rhetorical or you already answered the question.
They provide a forum to Burke, Wilson, Cherry and Stock that’s what!
… the fans of the Boston Bruins now have lost forever any right to complain that “the league” is out to get their team, and that the Montreal Canadiens have some kind of pull inside the NHL home office. Charles P. Pierce – Boston Globe
Penguins are gooning it up, did they watch BOS game tapes?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Is a new fad in this league to boo Subban. I cannot think for the life of me why he is being booed. I dont care, he probably likes it, but im curious.
I cant stand Cooke, really can’t. He is comparable to my hatred for Lucic.
Betcha it’s colour. Sad to say….
Just annoyingly good.
It’s always “in the mix”, but cannot be the sole reason. Allegiance w/ players is fickle and always disposable, but they’ll always remain loyal to the franchise(masters of their universe).
“The sh*t is CHESS!NOT CHECKERS.” Denzel W.(Training Day)
LMAO. Did Mario just buzz Campbell and company to get that BS call on PK? What a load of shorse hit that is.
DD could of ended it … now a PK
lol Bob Cole doesn’t think PK deserved a penalty. Can’t say I agree :p
Okay. Third period. It’s time for a Hal Gill goal. He’s due.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Gill made the save on Kovy.
cooke wouldnt even fight ryan white…kept goading weber
what a donk
PK deserved that penalty – and he deserved a high stick right before that cooke/white/weber/rupp scrum
Wait for it! here it comes from Stock what a great guys Talbot and Cooke are!
… the fans of the Boston Bruins now have lost forever any right to complain that “the league” is out to get their team, and that the Montreal Canadiens have some kind of pull inside the NHL home office. Charles P. Pierce – Boston Globe
Add Pens to the goon list. It’s a good thing they don’t have a 6’9″ T-rex on their team.
Anyone else NOT watching Cherry later this evening? I don’t care what old bigot has to say, and frankly I have better things to do.
Subban broke Staal’s something in last year’s playoffs.
I’m pretty sure it has to do with staal being injured by subban during last season’s playoffs.
I’m actually tuning out of curiousity, I have no idea how he’s going to come out for this.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
both sopel and spacek could be available by playoffs…again in the playoffs i believe the main guys will produce but ak46 and pouliot will be the key that they produce and chew some minutes up so we dont end up with our forwards over used and nothing left like last year
And the unBoston become Boston… what is it about the Habs that bring out the barbarian in the opposition? Are they yappers more than normal, are they dirty, what is it??
Everyone prepared for the “system”?
I’ve been asking the same question for years: How the heck does PJ Stock get a job on national tv, as well as on the radio? His comments are totally ignorant, and mindless.
That would be pretty stupid considering, you know, other pittsburg teams like the steelers and pirates.
Ron Wilson affirms himself to be an idiot.
Go Habs Go!
Nice. First goal is always key, but considering the circumstances it’s more important than ever.
YESSS!
Cammalleri has become defensively responsible. Good to see.
He is going to be looking or a serious raise due to his status as a regular top 6 forward.lol
Like Moen, as he is from my neck of the woods..But, he’s got hands… like feet!
UnBoston, maybe if you take away Cooke
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Has L’Artiste been on the ice yet?
He’s a regular Picasso with the puck
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
lololl
nice!
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
Travis Moen hands of stone
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Stone hands Moen strikes again.
Mara at least gets it through to the net.
Mara has been solid since he came back imo.
Now 58:25 of JM shutdown lead protection hockey, lol j/k.
woohooo great start
PLEKANEC!!
WORTH EVERY PENNY!
NICE PASS BY CAMMY!
WOOOOO! PLECS!
______________________________________ Long live Captain Gionta.
Pleky! Boys are awake for this one!
Go Habs Go!
Plecky!
Just like pickin’ cherries!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
PLEK!!! Nice to see him score!
What a FACEOFF WIN / PASS / and then a beautifull goal !!!!
I also think there is some chance that Cherry will come down against the Chara hit. There’s the point below about Steckel on Crosby by Graves. Cherry is also consistently against hits from behind (and always shows his stop sign stickers) and hits when trying to prevent icing. The latter are not “hockey plays” in his mind. Maybe, just maybe, he will have the same view on a blatant interference in a very dangerous spot. Or not.
Wow Subban. Way to take yourself WAY out of position for that hit.
Bob Cole with the call, once again it will feel like Pittsburgh is the Capital of Canada
Can’t listen to Knob Hole. RDS and CJAD it is!
GO HABS GO! WOOOO!
GO HABS GO!
Beauty – and a point for Cammy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great patience by cammalleri
WOO
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Was Pleks hurt on that rush?
Yes. Considering he calls it from his cryogenic chamber.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Yes just not the on he is watching
Used to call a great game. He misses half the play now when he rambles and tries to catch up.
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Aww c’mon man!
Just typically not the one he’s actually watching.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
New Drinking Game…everytime a Habs player falls down take a drink…we’d be in an alcoholic coma after 1 period.
Lots of mistakes by BOTH teams, afternoon games muck them all up
did i hear that right on RDS.. that reebok also spoke up about the incident?
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
Especially watching John LeClair in his first couple of years… and then he went to Philly
it’s the time’s (frequent) when he has no idea what’s going on on the ice. whistles confuse him… is it icing? penalty? offside?
chara = חרה
As soon as Bylsma is about to answer “yes” as to whether Chara should have been suspended, the feed is mangled. Coincidence, of course! First time I can ever recall CBC HD going to snow.
MacLean is an a$$hole – he’s drunk the Buttman Kool-Aid
Travis Moen, one-timer specialist, who knew?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
I take back what I said about Moen, what HANDS!
Moen should give Cammy a quick clinic on finishing.
OFFENSE is the best DEFENSE
NO FKN WAY! MOEN!!!!!!!!
- Honestly yours
The Golden hands of Moen
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
hands of stone moen…hands of stone pyatt, hands of stone white….maybe this works
Ha! A scorer…really?
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Moen himself can’t believe it. lol
MOEN! WOW
I’m so tired of this “if it had happened anywhere else on the ice” business re: the Chara-Pacioretty hit. It didn’t happen anywhere else on the ice. Period. End of discussion. At least Bylsma said he should’ve been suspended.
re blysma mclean
to get him to say it was like pulling teeth though.
chara = חרה
MacLean thinks before the Instigator nothing nasty happened ever and if it did, the guy who did it was beaten to hell and he never did anything like it again.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Like: The early goal and the lead.
Like: Non-goon hockey (so far at least).
Like: Mara’s overall play. Hoping he can keep it up and give us true depth at D.
Dislike: Moen on the top-6 again. Seriously JM, WTF?? Why break up the AK-Eller-Moen line?
Dislike: Didn’t see much of DD at all that period.
- Honestly yours
WE had one a few years back where we played at 8am one day then our next game was at 1am the next morning. First match and last match of the day!
Yesss!!!!!!!!!!
WTF? Stone hands Moen???
The Golden Hands of Moen! Beauty!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Yes! I heard it somewhere else. The NHL needs to change and fans are fed up with the regime. Bettman and his cronies HAVE to go! MOEN!!! WOW ! A sniper is born lol!
Did Bylsma just say that if his son ever gets in a fight, that he “would be the first to hit him, don’t worry about the refs”….?
I’m guessing he wants that one back….
I don’t have enough Picaroon’s Ale for that Tony. But it sounds like a fun game.
Agreed. Well said.
good on bylsma.. calling the league out..
unfortunately the guy has matt cooke on his team.. sooo
——————
GWG = game winning gionta!
Crackin’ a few beers for breakfast too ?? LMAO Love those tourneys…..My league has the WORST times…..last ones available…10:45 / 11 pm….egh…you dont sleep untill 3am….LOL
No.
I think that’s the first time someone’s ever accused Cammalleri of not talking.
Go Habs Go!
Cammy wins
I love it cause when the game is over its lunch time for me
Are we to see a JM 40 min PK?
Hope not.
–
Mara should tell Neal to try and act tough without the sheild.
——-
No Malkin, No Crosby, No problem. NEXT!
PJ Stock is a POS!
Hey, no big deal. He was the voice of the Leafs I remember so well in the 80s. He was great.
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Pouliot alone would warrant an intervention
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Sometimes, I play at 8:30 am in some tourneys.
I agree that his dramatic calls are indeed great, but his performance during normal situations in the game leave something to be desired.
Re Bob Cole comments.
All funny comebacks and maybe a little true but you the viewer are watching the game do you really need some guy holding your hand thru it?
Bob Cole’s voice, cadence and knowing when to raise the excitement level are still classic Gallivanesque!
Didn’t like that sequence at the end there. Pens trying to start something chippy.
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Pleks and Cammy have had no chemistry all year, yes… I know they were in on the goal, but overall they do not jive….no communication whatsoever.
Hammer’s bum tapped by Price. Good sign.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Carey has been SO painfully close to a few more shutouts this year as well. He could easily be in double digits now. Just a fantastic performance all around. He has had, maybe, two off nights all season. Incredible consistency in that pressure cooker.
Right on bud. Like Wilson says, a slapshot off the toe is comparable violence as an arm/elbow shot angled right off the noggin into that post that knocked our poor guy into next week compliments of Mr. Chara. Of course like u say, Mr. Cherry will no doubt give us a bunch of crap later on, for sure.
Stop with all the CP Vezina yap — fercryinoutloud. How much ammo do you want his agent to have at the end of next year?
Remember what happened after fans voted him and Komi into the All-Star game.
It’s a team sport after all.
However, if CP is the Stanley Cup MVP this year – then all bets off.
Moen, Mara and Weber I think also played very well today. Mara winning against Talbot kept that from being a potential turning point.
pk while still makes some mistakes you can see that besides his talent he has very good hockey sense about where he is on the ice and what play is developing…pouliot on the other hand has talent but is lacking hockey sense on how to utilize his talents and when opportunities occurs on the ice take advantage of them…
Sweet. Great effort by Price, who led the Habs today. Great finish in their limited chances but what a great 3rd period to seal it. Put the Pens to sleep.
What makes me sick is the poor people of Japan are suffering and Bettman gets of the hook because hes knocked of the front page. Then we have to listen to that idoit Wilson on the CBC are you kidding me. Now you know what Cherry is going to say. I hope Buffalo blows them out of the water tonight and shuts up all those a-holes.
That really helped heal my shattered hockey heart. Love the way the guys played today. Perfect team game. Price was awesome.
If he plays like this next season too whether he wins a trophy or trophies will be moot. Price will be due for a raise regardless. His play is worthy of both Hart and Vezina considerations already IMO.
However I also believe that the final outcome will depend on his play-off performances as well.
Another new Banner hangin from the rafters would be sweet and grabbing it from those hand banana booins would be sweeter…..Oopps, too much mexican today. Gonna take a Chara, later….
It looks like a basement Mr. Boone. I admire you for having such a popular website coming from an everyday, ordinary dude like urself. I log in at least 4 times a day. No Bullshit’ I really enjoy your stuff. As well as Hickey’s and Mio’s, and Stubbs’ and everybody else’s. Keep up the great work.
It’s actually not his basement. It’s a set made to look like one built by HI/O props department at a cost of $4.9 million. Hey it’s a bargain compared to what our dear leader is willing to spend on CF-18 fighter jets.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
You won’t like that there are several sources (US sources at that) starting to put the Hart next to Price’s name as well. A Goalie loses his top three defenders for significant(/all season/most of the season/) amounts of time and still compiles a run like this after the crud he had to deal with last year….. Can’t say I wouldn’t love to see him vindicated with a Hart for the heart he’s shown.
Well Cherry did exactly what I thought he would do. Blame the Habs, blame Molson and the Bell. His montage, not one of those show the guy directing his head into the stanchion. Chara, when you watch it closely DIRECTS Maxs head into it. He meant to hurt him, not that bad, I will give him that, but he meant to hurt him.
And what a complete lack of respect. Know the guys name before you go out there and do your blow hard piece
I’ve have actually been to Churchill’s Bunker…If only we could send Harper and his cronies there! and maybe drop a few bunker-busters their way, maybe they will be kind enough to protect their single malts! Chivas Regal 18 yr MMMmmmmm…Or A Glenlivit 12 yr…Stay safe and remember Harper still Knows the Bush…He might have a spare bunker buster for you too. Keep your head down! Stay safe my friend Boone.
Cape Breton…At least I know Harper will not send one my way!
I just saw the game, awesome bounce-back win! A few thoughts:
- as Boone et al have said, a dominant road game by the Habs. I know the Penguins are without their superstars. But with the Habs’ brilliant defensive play and goaltending, the ’09 Cup champs didn’t look dangerous all game. They looked helpless. And that was impressive.
-holy moly, I can’t stand the CBC’s weasely anti-Habs bias! Whether it’s calling Cammy “shifty” – how about “great player”? – or dumping on the Habs’ “boring” shutdown style…it’s so obvious. Newsflash, CBC. Montreal plays the type of hockey that wins playoff series. How about you give them a little more credit, rather than a single backhanded compliment at the end of the game. >:(
- so, what’s the deal with Bylsma pulling the goalie at 3-0? Does this seem petty to anyone else, to risk a (more likely) empty-netter only to bust Carey Price’s shutout out of spite? I’m so glad we still got it, CP was really impressive today and he really deserved it. Also, how excited did Bob Cole sound that the Penguins might score in the dying minutes? Haha, eat it, Hab-hater.
- on a final note, Jordan Staal took a really mean errant stick while on the bench. Looks like it really hurt. Broken jaw? Broken tooth? Either way, looks like it really hurt, and I feel bad for the guy. Perhaps slightly overrated, but J. Staal is a good, honest hockey player who’s had it really rough in the last year. I hope he’s OK.
Justin
I really like the look of this…
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern/Northeast/Canadiens.html
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I have little respect for our PM either.
I like to think of it as a bunker. I’ve got enough canned food and single malt to last me five years if Harper ever gets a majority.
Carey has been amazing all year. God luv ‘im.
Oh My God did they ever eh? That is all Cole talked about for the last 5 minutes.
Good to know. ‘Nuff said.
Sweeping statements are not my specialty.
Unfortunately, I don’t get RDS. I might be lucky and get it on a stream…. if not, the Crosby Corp will have to do. It’s rare they even show the Habs in my region.
There’s always the mute button.
I agree, a short suspension would have allowed Chara to say he did his time and then move on. Now he will always be the guy that got away with one because of favoritism.
Ignore my name, I’m from Nova Scotia, and trust me, not everyone down here is so enamoured with Sid the Kid. We don’t like pompous and we don’t like weird parents. All I’m gonna say.
Let’s grab this division BizNatches.
Well, CBC did everyting that they could to jinx it!
Think this will put a sock in Stock? Naaa, he’ll have something dumbass to say in a couple of minutes.
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Who?
Had a nice discussion with a big Bruins fan at Rugby practice on the beach this morning, very sensible, he said he was sorry Chara did not get a 2-3 game suspension so it would be over and done with, now, Chara and the Bruins will have to live with it for the year.
He’s a robot numbnuts.
CBC bashing Crosby…uummm…who’s the crackhead, so for you, they don’t pump up his image enough.
You are kidding?
And don’t bring the kids crap into this, their innocent bystanders or publicity ploys.
Keep your Crosby bias in N.S.
“The sh*t is CHESS!NOT CHECKERS.” Denzel W.(Training Day)
From a Bruins point of view, he’s right that a suspension would have been better. I’m sure most of the guys on that team, whatever they say publicly, think there should have been a suspension. Plus they know that most of the hockey world thinks the same way. The aftermath seems to be affecting their game, since they’ve given up leads in two successive games. Long may it continue! For the Habs, on the other hand, what happened should bring them even closer together as a team.
I think it’s attainable. The way the team has come together since the Chara/Pacioretty incident, my answer is yes!
GO HABS GO!!!
If we don’t get at least 14 points in the last 13 games, I will very disappointed (and very surprised). I’m hoping for a 100 point season. Very reachable. 8-5-1 will do it.
I refuse to watch those bunch of dirt bags, RDS all the way for me and if I really have to TSN.
You know what is amazing? The Leafs have NEVER had a 100 point season in their history.
I am betting Cherry defends Chara. I would be pleasant if he came out against but I would be shocked
With 13 games to go – and he would play most of them – it’s possible.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I’m rootin’ for it certainly, I think it can happen.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Agree. (I said something sinmilar above.) The Bruins showed a lack of mental toughness last playoffs; hopefully this will undermine them further. And if they meet us in the playoffs… a scenario they certainly don’t like the look of.
As for getting bigger up front, I think we’re doing it gradually; the addition of Patch and Eller helps, and we’re generally drafting begger. On the back end, the addition of Sopel and Mara makes our D a bit tougher.
Will Cherry sing from the same old song sheet as the others or will he be a maverick tonight?
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Discussion question: Carey just notched win #33 on the year. Habs have 13 games remaining – can he hit 40?
Go Habs Go!
Hey Boone…you can go back upstairs and change out of your PJs now.
***STOP THE MADNESS***
agree on the bigger up front..
not sure bruins care all that much. there quickly gaining on the flyers as the dirtiest team around. i like joe thortons comment a few days ago..bruins get special treatment.
ps..i don’t expect much out of the gm meetings. if more sponsors came out and more players it would add more pressure. still many neanderthals running teams not to mention media types.
haha, I love it, Boone’s a legend
Magic number down to 18 points
So the idiots on CBC are making fun of Mario? Did I miss something?
Boone’s videos scare me.
Yes, Chara should live with it forever if he has a soul, but what I think the guy meant is it will definately be a detriment to the B’s larger than missing Chara for X number of games and by the way he did not try to defend him and agreed that Chara’s hand/elbow left Max no choice but to hit the post. All in all a much more sane discussion than I expected.
I think the whole incident is going to get into the Bruins’ heads far worse than they’d admit. The amount of negative energy that team is contending with, the self doubt, etcetera can and hopefully will disrupt them considerably.
Don’t forget the Habs have been beating bigger, badder Bruins teams at hockey regardless how much they try and thug it up.
I still want to see the Habs get bigger up front to counter the abuse but never to resort to those tactics. The Habs have always represented skill as well as toughness, but gentlemanly toughness, not thuggish brutality.
This game goes out to Max!
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
nice win..nothing spectacular , a boring kinda martin win. tough games coming up. i hope sopel is around soon enough.
ps..i can’t wait for the old geezer tonight..
People like you MAKE ME SICK. The CBC has done nothing but bash Sidney Crosby, led by idiot Cherry, since he came into the league. Geeez…imagine a moron like you taking issue with showing Sid visiting with sick kids. Crawl back in your cave neanderthal.
So we have inferiour ability do we MacLame?
<sarcasm>Yeah I know. All an announcer needs to do is mention the word “shut-out” and it’s a sure goal. Unbelievable how Price managed to preserve the goose egg with CBC mentioning the word who’s name shall not be mentioned. I’ve got some used voodoo dolls for sale if you’re interested.</sarcasm>
Possibly the most boring game I’ve ever watched. And exactly what was needed.
A victory for the Jedi over the Dark side of the Force! GO HABS GO!!!

Live with it for the year?? How about live with it forever.
All hail the System!
Can you please stop asking this stupid question.
Price. Only one shutout behind Rogie Vachon and three behind Georges Vezina.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I hope the Leafs get a SHUTOUT tonight, don’t you?
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Nice win – sorta boring in parts, but nice. Cammalleri busting out at a nice time of year.
Just curious. Whats the status on Markov? How’s his rehab coming? could he make it back for playoffs?
The CBC ( Crosby Broadcast Corp.) is in full lament for their “kid”, bashing the Habs for playing like Jersey, ruining their afternoon w/ their neutral zone pressure. The bias towards the Pitts is sickening coming from a Canadian broadcast…and Carey w/ the 0 just to salten the wound. Priceless.
”The sh*t is CHESS!NOT CHECKERS.” Denzel W.(Training Day)
vezina anyone?
SHUTOUT!!!!! Way to go PRICEY!!!
And Big Paulie Mara for a star of the game as well!
Carey Price, more shutouts any goalie since Ken Dryden tended Net for Montreal.
Not bad.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
F#k you NHL and HNIC!!!
Nice job Carey!
Martin getting a little carried away with the celebration there. I saw him shake some hands.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
And how about as boring as 2 men fishing, like Millen said. Indeed if it was Toronto playing and beating Pitt tday well, you know, eh?
Who’s Thomas?………Eat my arse Chara….
Love the avatar, btw.
Mr. Flippy Floppy is now playing with a team that has a dark cloud hanging over it. They are already on a losing skid. Thomas is going to be dragged down along with the rest of the team by the Chara spiral of shame.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Double digit shutout numbers & 40+ wins and he’s got a decent shot at it.
During the nhl power rankings segment yesterday Bill Clement named Price as the leading Vezina candidate.
GO HABS…
If he can get to 40 wins, 10 shutouts, and get his GAA below 2.20, he has a good chance. Everyone knows the injury problems we’ve had, especially on defence, and I think that might count for a lot if he can get into the top 3 in all the major stats.
Floppy’s numbers have fallen to earth…it is possible and likely if this continues.
ok here’s a question on price. does ANYONE see him overtaking thomas for the vezina? I mean I hate floppy mcfloppersteen as mush as anyone but his numbers are out of control. anyone see it happening?
Final stretch, Carey gets to 40Ws, his GAA goes down and his save % goes up, it’s very arguable, but so is the Hart. Carey’s been playing w/o Markov this season essentially and Gorges out more than half the year. MTL has lived and died on his season and it’s been magnificent for a young man not even in his prime. Thomas has always enjoyed a stout defence this season, that ape Chara has been keeping him out of trouble all year.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Forget the Vezina, it’s time to debate the Hart
I don’t care who wins the Vezina; give it to the flopper for all I care. Carey Price is the better goaltender. He’s making amazing saves in every single game, and he just oozes confidence now. The future looks bright for us.
LOL…NAG Rules!!!
***STOP THE MADNESS***
Boone,
Habs have been just as sloppy – they have just capitalized on their opportunities…you cant be telling me you forgot that one post very early on?
haha, yes still excellent but considering he was 1.50 and 9.50 (approximate) over the season until about 2 months ago, that’s quite the drop.
I dont know about “fallen to earth”… a 2.03 and .938 is still unrealy. god I hate him, price overtaking him would be awesome. especially because he plays in front of such a worse defense. thanks for your responses guys just wanted to make sure I wasnt crazy thinking so!
Can someone please explain because I’m confused. Is there some kind of contest going on to see who can make the most assinine, stupid and/or ignorant remarks about hockey violence? There must be a huge money involved because there’s plenty of competition for the prize.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Don’t worry, it’s all meant to gear up to Cherry tonight, who will no doubt trump ‘em all.
Go Habs Go!
Well put it this way.
Cherry hates Europeans, Cherry likes North American players especially the gritty fearless ones preferrably from Kingston, ON.
BUT! Cherry loves the Bruins and loathes the Habs. Chara’s a Boston Bruin and Pacioretty’s a Montreal Canadien.
Tough one to call. Cherry likes the sound of his own voice and doesn’t really like to be a follower so I doubt he’ll take the National Headshot League partyline and call it a hockey play gone wrong. I DO THINK he’ll blame the Bell Centre.
In the end, who really cares what Cherry thinks anyway?
i’m not looking forward to hearing cherry defend chara but is it possible that the biggot clown will surprise us all?

Didn’t Mike say Moen would only score once more this season?

The Chara Spiral of Shame®
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Yes.
I tend to agree with that. i think Boston is doomed now and I think the wave that was annointing Thomas earlier is going to have a good look at Carey, and what he has been up against with the injuries and all. If he finishes strong he is a candidate for both Vezina and Hart
When Cooke and Rupp went after Webber and Suban the referee was looking at the whole thing in front of the Habs net. Cooke was pushing Webber and trying to get him to fight. The puck was down the other end of the ice. Why was the whislte not blown straight away and penalties not called? I say because they wanted to see a fight start. This is part of how the NHL plans to ‘sell’ the game in the USA. They want fighting and violence. If a referee sees players pushing and shoving with the puck in the other zone doesn’t it deserve a immediate whistle and penalties? Or maybe I am wrong maybe pushing and shoving trying to start a fight is a ‘hockey play’.
Could it be most “hockey fans” south of the border see the game as an extension of MMA!

Went upstairs to make a sandwich – luckily I put the kitchen TV on to see Black Snake Moen pop a dandy.

Here’s my idea, a “MAxPac” chant during the pre-game introductions for every game until he returns. And whenever Chara is in the Bell Centre instead of booing him, chant “MaxPac”. Never let him forget what he did (and almost did)…
Getting chippy now! PP time to make it 4-0!
some great goals, but kind of a quiet, boring game … the Pens fans are mute … and even Bob Cole just said he hasn’t heard a crowd in Pittsburgh this quiet in some time … and now I have to go check whether I’m having an onset of early dementia because I think I just endorsed one of Bob Cole’s in-commentary observations …
If you need a laugh after the emotional roller-coaster of the past few days, check out the latest DownGoesBrown column on “The NHL’s application form for new owners.”

Give him what ever extra penalty you want, what White does in these situations is valuable. He consistantly looks out for the other guys, and he’s fearless. He’s shown a willingness to match up against it seems any size opponent.
Well he didn’t get called, but even if he did I like the way he plays.
Look how tough these c*cksuckers are going after 22 year olds.
So we are penalized why???????
A few more fights and the crowd gets loud. You’re right on. lol
Writing stacnhion would be a typo. Writing sanction displays a lack or regard for the language.

Fine edit.
With these videos from Boone, I am starting to think of him as the godfather.

swell idea
Al Pern made it happen.
Cammy knows his role – on his knees!
Pen killer at work!
I don’t know how much fact is in it but Bob McCown yesterday said that Crosby’s family are trying to talk him into quitting for the sake of his future health, that Sid has pretty much accomplished everything at age 24 and placing himself at risk of further concussion damage is not smart.
Now what would Gary do if the National Headshot League’s BEST player, its marquee showpiece, its icon hung ‘em up at 24 due to head injury?
Johnson comes in……Dont fight THAT guy Carey!

gotta love Ron Wilson “If i trip a player and he goes into the net and breaks his collarbone should I get suspended?” – Hell yes that is exactly what this is about!!!! tripping is illeagle and if you trip and cause an injury you should be disciplined. Doesn’t take much to figure that out.

The Puberty Line
I think it’s nice that we have a player worth booing.
Must be tough without any vocal chords
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
ouch, just the thought makes it painful.
Cammy (13), Pleks (14) and Halpern (15). The Sequence Line? The (x + 1) Line?
“If I accidently coach my team into the playoffs…”
I am shouting back from “old Europe”.
Almost a fourth one.
Don’t bother. The moment we give a line a catchy name JM disbands it.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
You know why they boo Subban? There are a few Pens fans who actually believe that PK intentionally injured Staal with his skate.
Wilson – “If I drive my car through a red light and kill someone should I get blamed? You’ve got to be careful there. Not my fault the stupid light was red.”
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
You can blame Matt Cooke for that one. Wasn’t an issue until he came out and insinuated Subban was going around doing it on purpose.
The boy’s are putting in a pretty solid effort so far.
I think we’re going to score in the next minute.
“If I choose to coach a team that routinely trades away all of its draft picks and signs overpriced, broken-down veterans, is it my fault if I have a losing record?”
I hope this game doesn’t go to a shoot-out. Neverthless a big shout out to all Habs fan world wide.
“If I put my wiener in a meat grinder and turn the crank a few times is it my fault I’m dickless?”
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Who the HELL cares what Ron Wilson, Big Mouth Burke, and all the rest of the Tarranna media types think of the hit. IMO, they are part of the problem with the NHL. We need to usurp the goon faction from the NHL.
Hilarious.
Wilson is a hypocritical idiot. If it was his team, and his player, he’d be up in arms. Since it’s a Hab, he’s like “Oh well, why’s everyone overreacting?” I can’t stand him and that loudmouth media-whore Burke.
Hey! Like your avatar. Only one that could be better is a picture of Dryden when he used to play for the National team in the days where only amateurs were allowed.
Wilson: “If I accidentally throw a match at a gas pump and it explodes and kills 10 bystanders, you gonna blame me for that?”
Penguins really missing Crosby, Malkin etc… They seem to lack any finish around the net.
make up call
DD misses an open net. WIIIDE open to be more specific.
So this is what the NHL want to sell? No wonder everyone is attacking them.
I just watched the NHL.com replay of the Weber/Cooke incident, and I’m not sure why some people think Weber was out of line. Cooke was looking right at him, and they engaged at the same time. That was simply a case of Weber being stronger, so Cooke got the worst of it, and wasn’t happy about it.
And another thing Ian: Go SABRES Go Vs da LEAVES tonite.
Ian, it’s 2 points behind da Boons, not 4 . And just 1 behind Tampa. GO, GO FLORIDA vs Tampa tonite !!!
Two points back of BOS now Ian. Breathing down their necks, beat them on March 24th and that could clinch the whole thing.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
I believe we’re only two points behind Boston now after this win – Boston having a game in hand.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
The boys had a lot of jump right from the 1st minuet of the game. When they play well, they are a very good squad. When they come out flat like the last game, its over from the get go.
This team is well bonded with each other. There is a great team spirit, and they are going to make a huge noise come play off time. Especially if they can knock the Bruins behind them, we are only 4 points back now.
Even my grandmother woulda put that in the net.
with her bad hip and one hand tied behind her back (LOL)
I play a lot of hockey too but my motto is I’d rather play it than watch it… but then again, I can always catch Canadien Express or PVR it.
i hate it :p i have a game at 4 in Laval….which is an hour away from where i live..so i won’t be watching anything…sucks.
Habs only 5 points behind last years season total.
White should be out there (or Moen) everytime Cooke is, so he don’t try any shit
Mr. visor blows snow at Carey … wow
Nothing in my box Ian, just checked.

Two is right. Did you get my e-mail Robert
Moen with a one-timer?
I think Cole would have been justified in another “What is going on in Pennsylvania?!?”
That all started thanks to a forced Cammy pass
Nice hit by Eller.
Thank you Alex. Still a Canadien
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Nice play by Gomez to intercept that clearing pass.
MOEN – top six forward!!
Always knew he had those soft baby-angel hands.
With a confidence-stint in hamilton he will become our premiere offensive talent.
Byslma is saying they talked about it in the room and that the onus should be put on the player doing the hitting. This basically says that Pens, as a team, believe Chara should be suspended.
F-off Knob Hole!
How is that not icing?
Interesting Staal tactics.
Star # 1 Travis Moen
Star #2 Mike Cammalleri
Star #3 Carey Price
Yes will be very interesting to hear the reports next few days. Of course was great watching Ron wilson comparing Max pac to when a shot is blocked with feet, or better yet he said if he gets hit with a puck in the head will there be a rule.
How about next game we start firing shots Wilson on the bench until they make it a rule we can’t!
Leaf prospect joe colbourne laid out in a marlies game with a blind side hit. They haven’t said concussion but it is very possible. Looking forward to seeing the leaf media do a 180 in all their opinions they have made in the last 4 days.
Agree, put Carey there for the SO. That’s 8… Mara played a good solid game. Nice win…
Mara should be a 3 star for sure!
*Re-posted from the other page…
I had an idea the other day and maybe it’s crazy but I’ll share it with you anyways.
And perhaps Geoff Molson reads this site from time to time and may like what I am about to suggest.
Molson’s produces many fine beverages. The company recently released a beer called Molson Canadian 67 which is a calory-reduced beer with only 67 calories per bottle.
I was thinking about Max Pacioretty who is number 67 of the Montreal Canadiens.
And wouldn’t it be a noble gesture for the company to donate some of the proceeds of the sales of Molson Canadian 67 to the cause of fair play, sportsmanship and the movement against violence in hockey?
In light of the tragic events which have occured to our beloved #67 of the Montreal Canadiens I see it as possibly being one more way the Molsons can continue to exert pressure on the NHL to change its attitude — towards such an unacceptable situation which is being allowed to continue without any appropriate response by the league.
We will never forget what happened to Max. And maybe this idea could help the cause just a little bit.
A video promoting Molson Canadian 67

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
I would agree, i think that is a great idea. What I want to see at the next game at the bell centre is everyone wear no. 67 in warmup, I think that would be a sight to see
I like it, I might actually buy a case of the stuff if that were the case.
About 75 concussions in the NHL this year and counting.
And all we get from Bettman, Murphy and Campbell is like those three monkeys…
See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak on evil.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
Too bad Ken Dryden’s intellect is wasted on politics (where he is limited by the bumbling of his friends and foes) … he would make a perfect commissioner.
Also a shame he used his hockey intellect by taking a job with the Leafs, at a time where he could have been used and treated better in Montreal.

I HAD to….cmon
There has to be……HAS TO BE!!!!…Some way to end this garbage..i.e. get rid ofthe current brain trust. I am almost used to Bettman being a jerk and indefferent to injuries in the NHL…but when you call out one of your major sponsors and throw a school yard diss at their feet….its time for you to go. Especially because of the retarded bias Campbell and Murphy have shown and as well as the actions there of by not suspending Chara…They need to go.
I have not seen this much idiocy in short period of time before by so called leaders of our game than from the Richard riots which also involved a Campbell.
It just seems like there is no way out. Bettman gets his contract renewed and Campbell and Murphy are still holding eachothers you know whats and things just aren’t going to change.
There is no petition or amount of missing sponsorship dollars that will end Bettman, Campbell, Murphy and we’ll throw in Daly for good measure…cause seriosly …. what does he actually do except be bald…really….reign. They aren’t going anywere. So unless we fire up a good ole coup detat at least how I see it…..WE ARE STILL SCREWED!!

Personally, I can’t listen to those guys. I think Bob Cole is really suffering from some sort of dementia, seriously. It’s sad.

Yes that’s my point the NHL strategy to sell the game in the USA is to promote the fighting/violence angle. I’m convinced of that. This is the main reason the Chara hit is a ‘hockey play’.
ahh lol
Almost got one in close.

team 990 plays him everyday if i’m not mistaken. (i doubt they get it for free)* and everyday i don’t care & i’m not interested in what he says. but today, i’m interested, because he does represent something, like it or not. he represents the CBC as they put him & keep him there as their moronic mouthpiece.
*i’m sure boone, hickey or even <gulp> jack todd could use the money and provide a hugely more entertaining & relevant soundbite each day in his place.

Unfortunately, a lot of idiot Canadians care about what Cherry thinks.
Matt Cooke going after Weber. Huh, I don’t hear anything from Mario Lemieux. Maybe he forgot to take the soother out of his mouth.
What a save by Johnson on Desharnais …
seriously DD? Even pyatt would have had a 50/50 chance of putting that one in.

All this thuggery is bruining the game of hockey.
Reminiscent of Kovy on Tucker – but really stupid at this stage of the game.
Yeah, I was playing a tourney that weekend afternoon when Price shutout NYR 2-0. I PVR’ed the game.
It didn’t matter, I got a text from two fellow Hab fans telling me the score as soon as I got back to the dressing room. It turns out I didn’t miss much and I got to play hockey so just play and hope it’s a snoozer.
True. But there’s no way i’d be able to escape someone telling me the score. Live is better; my motto!
No Orpik Boone, he’s out with injury.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
