Playing the last place team in the Eastern Conference, Canadiens lose a third straight game in regulation for the first time this season.
Vaclav Prospal’s second of the game was the winner in a third period dominated by Tampa Bay.
Canadiens were outshot 36-21 and mounted no third-period offence until the dying seconds of the game.

RDS or TSN, let’s see… Oh man, Healey as color commentator, and he’s already got verbal diarrhea…
As in, Brisbois creates tons of offense for the other team? haha
Why would we need Boyle? I mean we already have Brisebois as an offensive defenseman!
(depending on your worldview you can read ‘offensive’ however you’d like)

GO HABS GO!
We just need a goon.. Someone who scares the other team. Right now, the Habs wouldnt scare a pee wee team.. of girls
Great line.
SIGN Higgins to a long term deal. Now. He CAN and WILL be a finisher!

GO HABS GO!
I hope higgins doesnt get traded
Higgins just scored.
Boone, I think we’d all like it if you had bad feelings about every game after the Boston game and now this quick start.
I too think they probably could choose a better time. Perhaps they do it now because the team has a feeling for which rookies are going to stay with the big club for the rest of the season.
All-Star Weekend?
I think players are entitled to a little fun together, and the team dinner paid for by the rookies is just that…a little fun. These guys are adults and therefore will partake in adult beverages in adult establishments. The dinner was held on the eve of a non-game day. In fact, practice wasn`t to be held until 4pm the next day because of the dinner. Unfortunately, sometimes s&*T happens.
I for one am glad they do this on the road. If they did this at home in Montreal, imagine how it could turn out with half the team climbing into their cars after the dinner. A taxi ride to your hotel room on the road is by far a better choice.
“Bob Hartley said his Colorado and Atlanta teams had never won a game after their rookie dinners: a perfect 0-9 record”
Makes you wonder why they have these dinners in the middle of February, during the middle of a playoff push. Im sure theres better times of the year to hold such events.
We really, really need Hammer back in the line-up. Please get well soon. I’m not bashing Breezer here. After Markov and Komi, none of our D is good enough to be a fourth D, let alone play 3rd D minutes.
Hands of stone Higgins.
there’s a positive feeling for you, boone!
Big game…we can’t afford to lose 3 in a row.
Looks like Gainey agrees with most people about us not being touch enough along the blue-line, so O’B get a out-of-jail free card…sorry, couldn’t help the monopoly reference
That said, can’t wait till Hammer is back in the lineup.
Wooooooowwww! Weeeeeee!
Better start tonight than against Ottawa
Well if Hartley is right then we should schedule next year’s rookie dinner just before a game with Detroit.
The Original 24 Cups
Such an idiotic comment.
Oops! That went in the wrong spot.
February is doom and gloom month in Montreal…
Especially after city taxes are issued!
“On his mid-morning show aimed at Team 990 listeners who aren’t remotely intelligent enough to understand Mitch Melnick”
Ouch Mr Boone…Very Ouch.. LOL
Tonight is a character game, thats for sure
yeah he’s polishing his golf clubs as we speak….that’s if he can swing them come spring
glad he exited stage right
his shoulder couldn’t hold his fat head anymore
And how about that. Mr. Sheldon Souray out for the season…
In Bob we trust….
You just have to post bail. Cash is preferred.
Boyle would be a great addition. He is one of the components we need and would allow BG to focus on our offence in the offseason.
likehoy – on a serious note, I really worry about Gagne. He’s very young yet he’s already had a few concussions that have kept him out of the lineup. He should not be rushed back into action and have his health jeopardized. These injuries can impact on a man’s life long after he retires. Philly doesn’t have a great track record of dealing with concussed players.
The Original 24 Cups
if only latendresse could skate as fast as he talks.
Maybe you have to be an American citizen to bail someone out of the clink. I dunno?
exactly what i was thinking..but higgins is doing alright compared to gagne so far
higgins in his first 2 seasons had 45 goals gagne 47. But gagne had a big third season…33 goals…while higgins was on pace for that at one point but has tailed off. No worries though gagne only had 9 goals in his fourth season
I’m going to go “purse” my lips around an adult beverage right now!
Hey Teach – Personally, I blame their lack of attention to detail on the education system. The school system let them down man:-)
The Original 24 Cups
likehoy – hopefully Higgins ends up having a scoring touch!
The Original 24 Cups
Well, when you consider how many Habs fans retire down there and turn out for their games, it’s not too far off.
so i figured higgins is comparable to simon gagne. Fast two-way wingers with a scoring touch…hopefully higgins ends up being as good as gagne.
Yeah i read that this afternoon, i was like “bloody morons”
wow, For-Fact-Sakes, can’t they get anything right!
Hardy har har
Talk to Yeats, OB went to Cornell.
yea it’s unfortunate…didn’t he try to come back and they told him to take more time off just recently?
but with how philly’s doing…gagne can take more time…there’s no immediate rush.
Hopefully Higgins doesn’t have Gagne’s tendency toward concussions
Alright Higgins! That’s a way to be a leader and get our team going!
hope everyone saw the play Saku made there
Proof that TSN is off their rocker. Taken from a story posted at the moment.
Tonight’s test marks the middle portion of a three-game homestand for the Canadiens, who have an impressive 17-8-4 record as the host club this season. Montreal will end the swing Wednesday night at Florida.
WTF! LMAO
Chantal IS cute. H. O. T. Plus, she looks like the kind of cute who occasionally enjoys chicken wings.
Too much has been said on this topic already. The only ones who know exactly what happened are Ryan O and the lady with the purse. We should just leave it alone. I do not condone any criminal act by any athlete in any sport, but we do not know any facts, and as we all have short memories, athletes do not live the same type of life as we do. Do you all not remember Ray Lewis.
Good luck to the Habs tonight, and I hope some idiot on the other team shoots a comment towards Ryan O. I would love to see him get his frustration out on some one.
I BELIEVE!!! Go Habs Go!!!

Brisebois wasn’t on the ice for either of the Tampa goals, so there goes your theory.

Hey Chuck, I just seen Huet make a couple of Spectacular saves that saved our bacon that period. As you can see our D is terrible. I know what Huet’s problem is. Whenever Breezer in on the ice he gets so nervous about it that it just throws himm off his game. Hammer please come back
Not really, the rebounds were pretty much shot straight on him. He actually still looked shaky this period, but thankfully TB can’t shoot.
I sure hope he was screened, because I’d hate to think that our #1 goaltender was incapable of stopping a shot like that.

No Cup por vous!
How is that not interference on Kovalev on that icing??
For a big guy, Gui is very soft. Yeah i know he can hit hard, but his hits are not really emotion-based. He’s a big boy, he should have more of an edge.
FFS guys. Hit someone.
Zero chance on that.
Boone you need to get your glasses checked. That was atleast 2-3 guys screening that shot. Huet never saw it till it ticked off him.
Look out below!! I’m jumping off the Huet bandwagon. He is friggin brutal.
That goal has given Higgins an unreal amount of jump and confidence
Has anyone done the math to figure how much we have tied up in salaries for next year. I think the cap is either 51 or 54 million. I hear people saying sign this guy and sign that guy but in reality a team can only make long term committments to about 6 guys and still have enough money to pay the rest of the team.
A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.

and of course they take the PP away from us. What a joke.

AK is in line for 3-3.5, 2 for Gorges and 1.5 each for Laps and O’Byrne. Or so. Then budget 3.0 for Streit. I would probably bookmark some of it to resign Komi, who is UFA after next year. I would let Huet walk and go with Price/Halak/Danis. That takes care of six of the spots, at about 12.5. That leaves ten million for the last spot, haha.

31.8 million tied up for next year.

huet’s weak goals lately are troubling. yeah, smolinski didn’t play that well, but is it too much to ask to have your goalie make that save. on that note, carbo has lots of patience with smolinski, but why not ryder?
Beautiful play. Pleky got that last one back.
Why do I get this feeling the game is going to end 8-6?
Plekkkkkkkkks!!!!!!!!
Smolinski does what he’s supposed to do at least 50% of the time, whereas Ryder is doing about 0% of the time this year. And of course, Ryder is supposed to fill a much more critical role.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
They have 31.8 million committed to next year’s cap (that does NOT include the money they have to pay RFA’s)

No criticism please! It just demoralizes the Habs! They can channel our thoughts from what I’m told.
Good job to whoever deleted the useless posts.
Just because you’re playing against a glorified JR. B team doesn’t mean you should play to their level.
Sharpen it up boys.
Is it me, or did I hear them play Jailhouse Rock when the Habs scored?
Is he tired? He hasn’t looked good for a while.
I watched the replay two times and huet was screened on that goal. People should spend less time bashing our goaltenders.
Koivu – 4.75
Kovalev – 4.5
Higgins – 1.9
Plecanek – 1.8
Begin – 1.3
Kostopoulos – 0.9
Latendresse – 0.85
S. Kostitsyn – 0.55
Markov – 5.75
Hamrlik – 5.5
Bouillon – 1.875
Dandeneault – 1.75
Komisarek – 1.9
Price – 0.85
Chipchura – 0.86
A. Kostitsyn – RFA
Lapierre – RFA
Gorges – RFA
O’Byrne – RFA
Streit – UFA
Huet – UFA
15 NHL players under contract, counting Chipchura. The Habs have about 22 million dollars to sign the remaining seven players.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
It will be a test for the boys to start the second period after they gave up a goal in the last minute. I think they will answer the bell. Need something big from Kovalev to set the tone.
The Original 24 Cups
Kovalev looks really lazy today.
i think that’s fairly unanimous.
that was a nice tic-tac-toe-whiff!
Andrei Kostitsyn is looking like a 1st round pick tonight. Lots of jump and winning battles for lose pucks. Just has to bury one.
I’d like to buy a goal.
Sergei is so smart out there. Makes plays out of nothing.
Habs just STINKING out there. This definitely is the same team that got crushed by Toronto and Ottawa. Suck fest and goal.

I saw that one coming for quite some time.
I have a feeling in my gut Gainey may be pulling his trigger on a trade by tomorrow morning. Don’t want another free fall.
No excuses, but Markov DID get hooked there!!!!
after sucking to Toronto and Ottawa
i was expecting gangbusters tonight
guess I was dreaming….just like our boys are doing on the ice tonight
this blows bad
so lecavalier can’t hook. twice?
Boone! How is that a soft goal?? Prospal has the puck all alone 10 ft infront of Huet and rifles a wrist shot past him. The only thing Huet, or any goalie could do, is hope it hits him.
Definitely a swing and a miss on that one.

I Have a feeling Gainey will sit on his hands and pass wind like he usually does when we need a trade.
Is it just me or does it seem that Huet has lost his confidence. He seems to be struggling mightily. What I really notice is the absence of Hamrlik, he covers a lot of territory and does not make mistakes.
this game would be over by now if not for Huet.
Brisebois is so bad its scary. He refused to take the hit for the puck there.
Brisebois is so bad its scary. He refused to take the hit for the puck there.
I miss hamrlik.
Brisebois needs to go, he got hit twice on the same shift by Gratton and then just abandoned any semblance of defense after that. The problem with this team is that there’s not enough guys willing to pay the price to make a play and Mr. Brisebois is #1 on that list with a bullet….
and huet is the answer? are you watching the game? did you watch saturday?
Problem is, recently we haven’t been seeing Huet do anything specatacular, either.

i don’t think there was anyone who suggested price is our saviour yet tonight…just huet sucks right now.
I’ll give you the screen… but Huet just doesn’t look comfortable in the nets tonight. Did you see his reaction after the 2nd goal… I’m nervous about him tonight. Maybe he is looking over his shoulder? (I think I might agree about all the comments regarding Price being back up with the team).
It’s obvious that he is not playing as well as he can – he has been an above average goalie for us since he came here – I am hoping that it is a slight slump that he can pul himself out of, but if it is some sort of nagging injury………
I don’t know what game you guys are watching but huet was screened on that second goal. If you people think Price is the saviour of this team right now you are dreaming. He may and hopefully has his day in the future but right now I haven’t seen him do anything spectacular.
Vinny only has one shot dude
so your telling me that Vinny and St. Loius can’t shoot.
Thank you, whoever is moderating tonight, for deleting the pointless feud posts that have been going on tonight. I prefer to read about the Habs, not about poster’s academic qualifications.
Something entertaining I wrote below must have gotten “flagged.” Except for the fact that like Charles Foster Kane I am an American, I guess I shouldn’t be offended.
well lets see for tommorrows game I like Kosto back in the lineup Lats can sit and Dandy after all that yapping after being sat has done what? Thats what I thought. Both those guys can sit along with Lappy to.
Haha KJ, our posts get deleted but Yeats can antagonize to his heart’s content.
Yeats,
Reading your posts, you are obviously the type whose able to hold his own when confronted by other posters. I don’t know why you wouldn’t say the Habs sucked when, they sucked? The Habs choked against the Rangers, played brutally against the leafs, I can’t even begin to describe that debacle against the Sens, and tonight, well…..
Keep fighting the good fight.
Got a Phi Betta Kappa from the University of SuperSex below. Let’s watch the sparks fly my friend.
Thanks friend, but HIO has become a pale version of what it used to be when really thoughtful, critical people posted. You are right. Fight the good fight. And, if that doesn’t work, dont forget my personal corrolary, kick them in the balls!
kick them in the balls…
Well, I did buy a new pair of Steel toe boots the other day.
Hey, as a guy growing up in Long Island, whose dad is a HUGE Habs fan, do you think Chris Higgins thanks God everyday, for making him a Hab? I think so.
Is Dan Boyle what we need?
I think we could use both Gratton from TB and then solid 4th D.
Yep, he probably does because he is living the dream. No one would even take a look at kids in NYC when I was growing up. Yet, my high school linemate Danny Dorion, who was a Hobey Baker finalist at Western Michigan, got drafted by the Devils. He was a much better player than Brian Mullen, but he didn’t have an older brother who made it to the show, so he didn’t stick.
LOL I think he wants both….hmm this is going to cost us more than just Lats and a 1st
Latrendesse to Helsinki for Pierre Dagenais.
Well, Shiloh, I think you’ll agree. Lats is invisible and has been given enough time, he needs work. I think he should be sent down now. Bring Chipper up already.
What an awesome game. These guys showed some resiliency and didn’t back down every time the Canadiens took the lead. They came out and dominated the third and capped off there hard work by scoring the winner and getting, a much needed, two points…………….is what I would say if I were a Lightning fan. BLAH!!
This years version of a tank job is well under way. We go from blowing a 3 goal lead to not even being able to score 3 goals against the likes of TB or Toronto. If these 2 jokes can beat us like this then what is going to happen when play the likes of NJ, Buffalo then off to SJ, Phx,LA and Anaheim?
SOS!!!!!
Mike,
You wanted to know why Max was out there with a couple minutes left?
Carbo seems to go with the idea of little league baseball in that everybody gets to play re: of what the score is.
All I have to say is a big #%&@! We should never have gotten our hopes up we know they always #%&@ up sometime during the season. They keep playing crap like this they’ll be joining the maple leafs in the basement soon.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
On the bright side, some of these comments have made me laugh (Karri Ramo should carry a purse, lol).
I feel absolutely disgusted with this team tonight. These past few days clearly demonstrate to me how little respect these highly-paid bozos have for the fans. While we sit here hanging our hopes on these guys taking us into the playoffs this year, they’re out partying till 3 a.m. and snatching purses. The next game they come out and play 60 minutes of hangover hockey and lose to the bottom-dwelling Bolts. I’m in my sixth decade of sticking by this team, and there have been some real highs and some real lows, but to me this takes the cake. I’ve felt discouraged by some of the bad teams we’ve iced. I’ve felt angry at some of the bonehead moves management has made over the past fifteen years, but I’ve never before felt such a stinging slap in the face from the team I hold dear. Do they even realize they’re in a playoff race? Is it all just a big joke to them? Man! Why should we take them seriously when they don’t take themselves seriously? I know some of you will say I’m overreacting. You’re entitled to your opinion. But to me this whole drunken episode so clearly demonstrates disrespect for the fans and the game. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Marleau the #1 trade target, what were the RDS guys drinking at 3AM last night?
can’t blame Huet
his team was still at the buffet table and never showed up for the game
and don’t get me started on Lapierre
he’s inherited the title of useless pylon on the ice
hey boys if ya hurry ya might catch happy hour somewhere in Tampa
Higgins.. big goal and then *poof* he disappears for the rest of the game, not unlike his linemates.
If they dont start showing some passion we wont make the playoffs.
we cant win with one line scoring.Goalies are going to tire out with all the shots coming at them.we need someone for the face offs
ill start to worry when we lose 5 in a row, crappy game i 100% cannot deny what were the shots 35-19?, it was disgusting, but we still got a hold of 4th place for now and it looks like ottawa might lose tonight, philly is done, we seriously need to make a big trade, grit and a strong center ,a winger could help but a big centermen will definatly help, ***K i hope tomorrow its the real habs that come out
Looks like the Habs will be battling the Leafs in the last game of the season… for Stamkos!
I don’t really think it’s that bad, but there are glaring shades of last season. If they don’t turn it around in the next three games (Hamrlik should be back somewhere in there right?) then maybe Gainey should be trading for picks and prospects.
—
Chris
I think it’s time to send Max Lapierre back to the minors. What has he done? He doesn’t generate anything out there. Latendresse and S. Kos need someone to play with.
Higgins what the F*&^ is with this guy ……all that talk he does and then his play arghhhhhhhhh
hey were you at the ottawa game the other day? I saw someone with a jersey similar to the one in your picture.
I smell Chipper….
He did score half of our goals tonight, y’know.

I can understand you being upset, but I think you’re blowing things outta proportion. The whole partying thing doesn’t really bother me. These guys are people and once in a while they will enjoy themselves outside of hockey. O’byrne is a young guy, as am I, so I can understand why he would want to enjoy himself once in a while. I’m not condoning what he did, but I also understand people can make mistakes.
Ya gotta look at the big picture here. We are still in 4th place in the East. How many of us before the season would have said we’d be happy with that positioning? There are many highs and lows in the season.
You make some great points, maybe out of anger, but I understand. They should realize that we work hard and sell out the bell centre every game and buy merchandise and stuff and without us they would not be making a living.
I love max, I really do, but his play has drastically declined. He is no longer a horse willing to hit everything that moves. Send him down and call up chip. Change Higgins with Sergei.
Actually, you could replace Higgins with any other player on this roster, with the exception of Price. Although, he was looking kind of lazy, sitting on that chair….
nah thats not even me i jus found that pic on the net, although i will be getting that jersey soon
Interesting tidbit, I just did a little research and it turns out:
With Brisebois in the lineup the habs are 14-15-4 = 32points in 33 games
With Brisebois OUT of the lineup habs are 15-4-5 = 35 points in 24 games
THE FACTS DO NOT LIE CARBO!!!!!!
Have Sergei and Ryder played together at all?

Chris
This team has Cup written all over them! Wooooooo Wooooooo! Go Plekkkkkkks! Go Higginsssssssss! Crap, even sarcasm has it’s practical limits. I’m just really pissed I didn’t have an NCAA D-1 alternative tonight. My suggestion to everyone is just go out, get loaded and steal a purse. This team remains just a pathetic caricature of what the Montreal Canadiens once were. It’s just like a bunch of high school kids donning Marx Brothers’ costumes. No, it’s far worse. The kids would given a better effort! Thanks for reading. Have a nice evening. Double tee to you!!!
Brutal effort. I’m glad the team is having a good time in sunny FLA with no curfew. There was NO passion tonight. The schedule during the next two weeks will determine this team’s fate. It’s not looking promising.
that third goal, prospal had all the time in the world, horrible, i knew it was gonna be a goal, cant blame huet too much on that, he almost had but it sneaked through
higgins – plekanec – kovalev
andrei k – koivu – sergei k
lets try it. at least for a few shifts before carbo will inevitably change things up again.
I guess max is the scapegoat for tonight.
Give him a break. He is not the only one whose play has gone down lately.
Latendresse should be better though. He gets so many chances, many of them thanks to Max, but he never finishes.
By the way, did anyone find the camera zoom on RDS annoying tonight? It was too far away and I had to squint to find the puck at times or to see who had the puck. Very annoying.
I agree completely. I actually thought carbo did that for a sec tonite, but it was just some guys taking longer to change.
The Habs are going down quicker than a dead goldfish in a toilet bowl.
i hate slumps but everyone has em, hopefully it wont last too long
Only good thing tonight: Philly lost and the Sens are having a hard time with the Sabres…I know it is pathetic…but what else can I say /cries….
Yah you think the coaches would think bout stuff like what you say
Don’t diss the goldfish! He will at least try to forestall the inevitable!
lol. it was just funny to see someone wearing that jersey on tv, it made me laugh. that is such a clever jersey.
kovalev looked like brind’amour with that awning over his mouth
even dead eh?
The camera zoom was also annoying on TSN.
This one is for Shiloh,
Lats and a 1st to Tampa for Dan Boyle.
what would it take to get brian boyle?
oh okay, it must be the arena then. my dad was watching it on tsn but he didnt really notice anything. it’s also always darker in tampa for some reason.
I think it has more to do with who’s in the lineup when Brisebois sits.

Fair enough MikeL, but you have to recognize that the big picture also includes a 5-4-1 record in the last 10 and a season high three game losing streak. This episode, to me, is a measure of the commitment these guys have to making the playoffs. Old guys like me like to cut loose a bit from time to time too. I’m not questioning the urge, and I’m certainly not questioning the need. I’m questioning the timing.
Brian Boyle? Or Brian Campbell? LMAO
On HIO, you must love the Habs at all times, don’t skip a beat. All negativity, from what I’m told, actually translates into poor on-ice perfomance by the squad. We must all be blindly positive. Love the Habs! Love the posters who love the Habs! Absolutely no negativity. Don’t use any “banned” words. Sucking is merely the inverse of being great. Man, we’re supposed to be talking about the most storied franchise in the history of the sport. To qoute Joe Dimaggio, “every day I thank God for making me a Yankee.” As a guy from the Bronx, who played the game and always wanted to be a Hab, we need more guys with that kind of heart!
GPK – You got it half right – Lats and Sergei K need to start playing. They could go back to Hamilton just as much as Lapierre.
The Original 24 Cups

Yeah I did and I saw Price let in three not hard to stop goals. No rebound control.
have you seen huet all season? Yeah that was a terrible game saturday. There are far too many shots coming from good scoring positions like the last one. That shouldn’t have happened. The team d is weak
Your just full of doom and gloom aren’t ya Boone. I wish we were playing Boston tonight.
February is doom and gloom month in Montreal. And the team hasn’t been playing well.
I’m glad to see Percy in the lineup. Habs’ D can’t look worse than it did against Ottawa, so he’s got to be an upgrade. It still worries the hell out of me to see Breezer in there, though. Hopefully the forwards will own this game and we won’t have to worry about defensive holes too much.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
As others have mentioned, it’s quite possible that this incident will raise the esprit de corps of the team. Rather than the whole situation becoming a distraction it could serve to focus the team on making sure that they’re sticking up for one another and collectively doing their best to vanquish those outside who would try to get them off their game.
…or they could come out really sluggish and get eaten alive once again by Vinnie and Marty.

GO HABS GO!
Mr. Boone. You are not a fan of Tony Marinaro?
Well, he’s not the worst …
Good news guy! *cough cough*
With two weeks to go until the NHL Trade Deadline, TSN today announced it has acquired John Ferguson Jr. as a guest analyst for the NHL on TSN and TradeCentre 08, marking the former Toronto Maple Leafs GM’s debut as a television analyst.
Make him analysis his trades and explain why he lost the job…
he can’t analysis for sh,t

Lately my wife has taken to calling our dog, ‘Saku’ cause he’s so cute and cuddly…don’t ya love how some women
view hockey players? (Female Hockey fans out there, don’t go getting your Victoria Secrets all twisted up- hey I have my fantasies ok?)
With regards to Saku’s silence with the travelling media….I’m gonna go out on a limb and say ….uh… maybe he didn’t feel like it (last time I checked, that wasn’t a crime) maybe he wants to focus on the game tonight instead of the circus that’s been goin on…
I like Saku …and not because he’s cute and cuddly… I wish he’d put more pucks in the net but I bet so does he. The needling this guy puts up with…my God, it’s a wonder he can stay focussed.
My feeling is we have not seen the end of this guy’s talent and leadership, hopefully tonight will be the start of greater things to come.
Oh and in case you’re wondering, our dog’s name is Kazoo, and like Saku, he IS cute and cuddly
Go Habs Go
well i think not saying anything is the best way of saying that there is no excuses that can be made for either of them (and any other player involved in any altercations)
One thing I’ve realized from listening to the Team 990 is that you have to remember that these guys have to think of something to say, in Marinaro’s case every weekday for 2 hours. He, like anyone else in the media, but especially when it comes to talk radio, feeds off of controversy, both “reporting” it and making it.
Gainey, Carbo, O’Byrne and Kostopoulos all said what they had to say. Not much Koivu could or should add. Sometimes a captain can just as easily make a statement by saying nothing at all or knowing enough to do just that.
TSN must be the lowest spot in a persons career. Look at the bunch of loosers that are on there,Barnaby-Healy-that classy guy Milbury and they also had Tie D on there. Now the worst manager in Hockey history is their new analyst-who is doing the hiring there ????
the big macs are not too bad…mcguire and mackenzie…they generally know their stuff but they never like to admit they’re wrong at any point.
bobby mac has an approach where he’ll give his opinion on both sides (i.e. habs won’t make the playoffs but they will be a dangerous team) so he doesn’t look bad ever.
pierre just yells…and he gets his point across by yelling…at least he took back what he said about huet (he constantly thought huet was a bad goalie and was always lucky…but 3 years later…huet’s not too bad is he?)
You are so right…a bunch of has-been losers. It could, and probably will, get worse. In about 7 or 8 weeks time they could be joined by Paul Maurice, or maybe Wade Belak…yeah, Belak, now there’s a real good candidate for TSN. He’d fit right in…like a guy in a tree playing duelling banjos. Perfect!
As much as Maguire’s changed his tune re the Habs, he’s still a dork when he gets excited
I actually watched a segment where he said, basically, you know what? Huet, you proved a lot of people wrong, including me, that you are a for real no.1 goaltender.
What I’ll want to see is how they’ll manage to convince Ferguson to lick the Maple Laughs’ boots like the rest of the TSN crew.
Well Boone, I’m assuming you know our record when the Breeze plays. Tonite will be a crap shoot. Lets hope Huet can make more saves then whatever his name is.
can somebody please hit the friggin net!!!!!!!!!
Maybe if Ramo was carrying a purse, more players would be crashing the net?
This game is over.no leader ,no heart tonight playing a pacific game
well back to the bar boys
Don’t criticize the Habs! They are just sooooooo misunderstood.
Yuck, Yuck, Yuck.
the road to missing the playoffs again is starting to get paved!! Teams all around Montreal are winning and booting us out of our spot. way to hang in there Montreal and keep in the standings. way to go….
WHY THE $%(U&( IS THE 4TH LINE ON IN THE LAST 3 MINUTES!?!?!?!?
Gotta play defence man!
This is a truely pathetic display of hockey by our Habs.
Komi commented on RDS.
Habs are NOWHERE near the rebounds on either end. Total lack of effort.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Montreal is standing still, no one is moving their feet, no one is skating… a friend of mine predicted yesterday that they would finish 9th in the East. I’m not sure that’s out of the realm of possibility.
this is ridiculous.
I liked it better when they shaved the rookies’ heads.
These rookie dinners suck.
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
Agreed. Why is May on the ice?
prediction: We lose the faceoffs, and they’ll score.
Most excitement we’ve seen in 2 periods. The Ice girls.
Just show the cheerleaders for the last minute, please.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
….and there we have the 2007-2008 edition of the 2006-2007 Canadiens, RIP in the month of february….pathetic
Put simply sportfans: If you can’t beat one of the f’n worst teams in the League, how in God’s name can you expect to beat the best? I’m sick of this candy-ass crap, you’re either the Montreal Canadiens or a bunch of models sporting their kits. Make up your mind, once and for all. I’m really pissed because, unlike Saturday night, I don’t have an NCAA D-1 game to watch in leiu of this. For God’s sake, wake the …. up gang!
Maybe there should be a curfew after the rookie dinners… or another idea.. how about having them on a night when there’s no game the next day?
OUCH KOVY! When did THAT happen?
Hey, Kovalev is playing tonight!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Opps, my bad! We must love the Habs at all times. Wooooo Wooooo Go Pleks!
Umm, there WAS no game the next day lol
No finish.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
WOW
I’ve made a huge mistake…
Kovy almost got decapitated. he’s still cool even if he did sorta take the night off …and boy can you feel it. And that was close. Here we go 13 seconds huge face off.
Crappiest effort of the year! Carbo should make them skate laps.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
No secondary scoring on this team, and no toughness is killing them. Ottawa addressed that yesterday (like they needed to), while Bob sits around waiting for a miracle.
And Saku does nothing… AGAIN.
Well, that was… interesting.

Sigh.
No, still the Buffalo game IMO.
but it sucked nevertheless.
Man. We -NEVER- get any breaks. Ever.
Either of those two cross crease plays could have gone in, but no. So annoying.
Oh well… Then I have to come up with another excuse for them tonight…
Oh well… Then I have to come up with another excuse for them tonight…
obvioulsy the lightning and the red wings swapped uniforms tonight. what a sneaky trick.
bah.. terrible.
Well the way they played they didn’t even deserve to take it to overtime. Good night.
You know what the worst part about this is: Habs suck! This is embarassing
It’s a crappy night when you get dominated by Jr. C slugs like Tampa’s fourth line.
Turning point of the season so far, Koivu’s penalty against the Rangers.
Umm, he caused the turnover that created higgins goal. Pick on Kovy, he’s been absent for two games running now.
three more losses coming up people. Florida, and Philly twice. The Habs do this every year, they slump around playoff time. And of course, no big trades will be made.
Great time to have a meltdown boys!
What they should consider is having the rookie dinner at the start of the all-star break. This business of a huge party in the middle of the most crucial part of the season is complete bullcrap. They get paid big bucks to a) take care of their bodies and b) be ready to play by game time. Tonight they let everyone down. This should have been a W.
If by “interesting” you mean “terrible,” I agree wholeheartedly.
It’s not the rookie dinner, they’ve been sucking for nearly two weeks.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
The Buffalo game sucked worse, but that was 2007.

I thought they usually slump in December!
Ah, I didn’t know you meant year literally, my apologies
Tomorrow night’s game will tell if we are going to follow the same plot as last year… where the heck is the bloody leadership on this team?!?
If you’re Gainey right now, it must be tempting to trade EVERYBODY. Three crappy losses in a row. For over a week they’ve looked like the worst team in the league. We all know that every team goes through slumps, and that the Habs were due for one, but why does the slump have to be so damn ugly?
Ugh. Let the nightmare end soon, please! Outshot 17-5 in the third? Against TAMPA? Jesus Christ.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
evidence that Carbo and Gainey have PLENTY of work to do
Lapierre reminds me of an Irish Setter…I’m off to run around in circles and act like there is nothing going on in my head.
LOL! Time for Laps to go back down to Hamilton – he’s outlasted his usefulness. P.S. bring back Chips – at least he’s a smarter player.
it’s like they turn the key in his back on the bench and just turn him lose for 45 seconds.
LMAO!!! post of the night
well… in the last 3 games, we’ve lost to the best team in the eastern conference… we’ve also lost to the two worst teams (on paper as of this morning)in the eastern conference.
Where does that leave us?
Well we were out skated out hustled .I found nothing exciting about this game except the Higgins goal. What next.
The sky is falling (again)! The sky is falling (again)!
TB comes into the game with a 6-3-1 record in their last ten. Look it up, that makes them one of the hottest teams in the conference right now.
Sucks to lose, and the Habs are officially in a slump, but two good things happened tonight. Higgins actually scored a goal. Despite his legal problems, OB is no longer injured, and looks like he belongs on the Habs D.
I would expect the Habs to lose tomorrow night, but when Hammer returns it will help pull this team out of the slump. They are still in a decent spot to battle for a playoff spot.
i appreciate your optimism, i really do. i wish i could share it. we should have, and needed to, win this game tonight. sorry but that’s the bottom line.
That third goal was in no way a soft goal. We didn’t lose this game because of goal tending. It could have easily been 6-2 tonight. We were outshot 26 to 9 over the last two periods. You just don’t win like that I don’t care who is in the net.
He overplayed the puck and whiffed on it, allowing it to go through his legs… pure and simple. I’ll bet Huet would be the first guy to say that he’d like another shot at that one.

i can’t even think of anything funny to say….I’m so pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you not see he was screened on that second goal. You people call every goal against this guy soft.
i’m counting the goals from last game…and he still sucks. He was clearly screened ya, but as a butterfly goalie known for positioning…he should have stopped a low one that went under his arm…it was a lack of technique IMHO
yep. well sorta.
anyone else think price is the reason huet sucks? can’t handle carey from behind.
I guess I haven’t missed much eh? Huet playing poorly again? Goal with less than a minute left in the period? I thought we just had Ground Hog Day.
where is jc petit when we need him?
For once an intelligent comment by Healy – in Huet’s last 6 starts, in 5 of them he’s let 4 or more goals in and you can’t expect your team to score 5 goals each night just to get 2 points. But I also think our defensive coverage has been less then desirable in those games as well…
lol “nice try nogoalov”
no hammer hurts…
Just don’t allow anyone to shoot high in him. You’d think that with his lack of size, he’d stay out of the butterfly.

Please Please get Brisbois off the ice.
Why oh Why does Carbo insist on playing Breezeby – a completely errant clearing attempt around the boards for a turnover. He’s just downright brutal.
i completely forgot the game was on TSN..haha..thanks for the reminder
What a horrible change! These guys are making it look like a shooting gallery on Huet.
I only wish we had the equivalent RDS guys in English! Luv those RDS guys
Get well soon Hammer, please!
Man, you know the Habs are in the tank when they make T-Bay look this good. Can’t wait for them to break this funk … especially Huet.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Great ply by Gorges on LeCavalier.
T-Bay hasn’t been playing too bad lately. I mean even before tonight.
So how bad is the ice in Tampa? The puck seems to be bouncing all over the place.
Don Waddell is at the game? Does that mean the Hossa rumours aren’t complete BS?
It feels like we’re just going through the motions…
Tampa’s 4th line…That’s the kind of energy we need!
It’s Tampa. Good for them is still not good!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Huet looking really solid. No weak goals so far
About as good as you can imagine ice being in South Florida…slightly better than water, but not quite ice
I guarantee that one of the players Waddell is checking out is O’Byrne. Hope he likes what he sees!
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
except for that first one…
tough to call that weak,, that was bad team d
Interesting. I thought his price for Hossa would be more than we’d be willing to pay? He’s definitely NOT there for anyone on Tampa.
I think these guys are playing like it’s a Florida vacation lol!
Gui and Max getting in pushing matches with opposing players is basically a joke. They do it like every second shift but never fight. We need a Lapperierre type player.
Why do you hope? Hossa isn’t really for us IMO
Should have done some time on the chain gang!
LOL, yea we havent had a 100 point guy in 10 years…I suppose you are right..
3 friggin shots… c’mon guys, really! Let’s get some emotion into the game.
Not moving our feet tonight at all, we clear the zone and then make a change? Come on guys!!
Stop thinking in terms of points. Think about what we need as a team.
Well, we’d be better off with a centre, but I wouldn’t say that a 40-goal scorer “isn’t for us” … I’d gladly take him at the right price, i.e., Ryder and O’Byrne.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
TB 6-3-1 in their last ten. Not bad.
Glad to see Huet step it up this period after that late goal in the first.

Definitely a different Huet this period… thank God! Now, if we can just score on this PP!
oh my Gaw!!!
they’re killin me
boys are asleep at the wheel
They’re playing like they’re hung over.
I guess this is what hangover hockey looks like.
The ice must be horrible for the players the puck is bouncing all over the place. Lucky to be tied still. Pull up yer socks for the third period Habs! GO HABS GO!!!
Hey exit716, simultaneous post!!! Great minds think alike…and damn fools seldom differ.
Tortarella predicted we’d come out playing hard… which we did… then….?? Hahahah. i love that MacDonalds commercial with the tiny goaltender.
Hossa commands the “Build your team around this player” type of money. Problem is, hes not a corner stone..or even a pillar. Hes more like the paint on the house once its all built. We need alot more strengthening of the Habs “structure” before we paint this pig.
hahaha, nice try no-goal-ov. I love it too.
Chuck – Thinking the same thing.
The Original 24 Cups
Was Lats EVER in Hamilton?
Optimism? Losing sucks. They will lose tomorrow night. They are in a slump. Wow, you call that optimism?
RS, yeah, you’re right. compared to how i felt, your post seemed optimistic when i first read it. now that i re-read it.. i think we’re pretty much on the same page.
Did they come to play today?!?!
Ramo robbed Plekanec like he was at a bar in Tampa!
(oooh, was I the first to use this?)
/\\ike
GO HABS GO!
Distasteful…but I like it! lol
well that one ya..but I listed a few of the “o’byrne” ones on the original thread
Boone, you are officially required to experience major anxiety before every game. I mean it. I’m talking ten-trips-to-the-can anxious.
Look! We’re playing “guilty”!! (maybe he meant “guilty of playing”)
The kid line looks like they showed up.
Huet looks shaky tonight…rebounds etc.
Never should have been a rebound on that shot.
Crap goal, dammit.
http://yearofthehab.blogspot.com
Urgh, won’t the real Cristobal Huet please stand up, please stand up, please stand up,
Kovy looks like he’s REALLY lazy tonight.
Hey….i’m watching this game on TSN…..why did Mackenzie & Cuthbert pronouncing the T in Huet? Did i miss something??
again?
The correct pronunciation is
Hu-ett
They’ve been calling him that for a couple weeks now. I think Huet might have made a comment about they way people pronounce his name. I prefer Huet with a silent T
huet’s wife got pissed at the name being mispronounced…it’s actually who-ette
Ok Larr-eye? lol
I agree…..the whole “hip-hip-huet” chant doesn’t have the same ring to it as hueT….oh well…. :s
a few days ago huet was the greatest goalie. no one play goal on this blog.
some go in.
V…I thought it was only me who had trouble seeing the puck tonite on rds, its never usually like that
no i have 20/20 vision, and it was horrible. it made it even more painful to watch…
Boone is loving Gratton tonight. Which adds to why I want him for the Habs.
Chris Gratton, Tampa Bay, 6-4, 231
TSN Scouting Report:
Assets – Has a great combination of size and two-way savvy. Displays decent hands and a mean streak. Is solid on face-offs and sound defensively.
Flaws – Has questionable hockey sense, which limits him in the scoring department. Isn’t as complete a player as his package suggests.
Career potential – Checking line forward.
He is a 54% on faceoffs and a UFA at seaons end.
agree
No reason for Huet to be concerned about Price (this season). Gainey and Carbo have been pretty clear, at least in public, that Huet is the #1 guy.
gratton is 67% in the circle and is a monster, i hope is coming with us when we leave tampa. pleky, laps and smolinski all 33% koivu is 50%
This is why I want to trade for him.
And the NHL messes up a call again. That Carolina goal was definitely kicked in.
Samsonov is on FIYAH
Not sure if someone else has posted this so if so I am sorry ..
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3242781
Souray out for season…
Good news is the game is still 2-2. Bad news is we’re going to lose if we keep playing like this. Huet has settled down, kept us in the period. Wish he wouldn’t go down so much. Kovalev is invisible. Markov is our best player. Please, no shootout tonight.
The Original 24 Cups
actually i am very impressed with Streit tonight, more so in the first. the guy is great. that pass off the boards to himself was ovechkin-like.
very troubling. lost four of five. huet lets two soft goals to keep tampa in early. the most troubling thing in my opinion is bizarro carbo egomanic choices of dandy on twice with five minutes left, smolinski on with two minutes and laps on with under two minutes to go.
we can’t score anymore, but how can we, we dress 8 defensemen.
Remember we have a kid lines.
Everybody gets to play. Carbo does not want to get any phone calls from upset parents.
Redwings are losing their 4th in a row… the thing is they can afford to lose 10…
I wonder if their fans want to trade away half the team along with Hasek and Osgood
We need to get nastier in our end! Start putting them on their butts!
i agree, however with goaltending like this, you just hope they miss the net.
I know this is gonna be useless to post. But i am sick of arguing the points of why this makes the most sense.
sergei-koivu-ryder
andre-pleks-kovalev
higgins-lapierre-latendresse
begin-smolinski-kostopolus
Higgins scores on a spinorama move over the blueline and then Streit displays magic on the second goal. Alas, Huet chokes on both goals that get past him. We’ve got to hang tough – we’re playing the bottom-feeders for crying out loud.
The Original 24 Cups
Waddell’s at the game….Gainey flew in to Tampa yesterday…anyone see Hossa’s agent???

I know this is gonna be useless to post. But i am sick of arguing the points of why this makes the most sense.

WHERE ART THOU?
in the shot of carbo at the end of the period, he looked like a deer in headlights. carbo, it’s not that difficult. you can’t coach with bad goaltending like that. huet did the same thing last then he went down with a hamstring injury after he did a karate chop in net against the devils.
huet can’t handle the pressure.
I thought the butterfly style was supposed to prevent goals like that one?
wd40 – play of the game so far.
The Original 24 Cups
Seriously eh… D-man from Switzerland.
We played like AHL in the second period. Both forwards and defense just dumped the puck against the board and let the opponent have the puck again and resume the attack. No one dares to skate with the puck and make passes.
KJ…the first one looked like a bad rebound a bad defensive lapse and the second one he was pretty screened i seen 2 players in front of him, the score could have been a whole lot worse, he kept us in the game by making some good saves
This team needs a prolific scorer. Someone who can finish. And it may cost us someone who we love.
When Hamr comes back and gainey ships off some dead weight we should be okay.
But these kids need to be spoken to by the vets on the team – if koivu is a real leader, he needs to step in and get some regard from these rookies. If he is ineffective in this role, get rid of the guys who dont want to take the game seriously (via a trade or otherwise). It is amazing how the on ice play is affected by attitude (see kovalev and samsonov of last year).
Making a mockery of your team on and off the ice is not cool. The leaders need to step in.
Edit: Marian Hossa doesnt strike me as the type of guy who cares enough about the game to deal with quebec taxes simply to play in the best hockey city in the world. No way.
If they are true fans, then yes.
I think the cameras are too far back. These big arenas are annoying, to say the least.
That’s five goals on Huet’s last 13 shots. All five goals were soft. Not the type of clutch goaltending the Habs need right now. I think Carbo will insert Price to start the second period. Huet has been fighting the puck since Price was recalled.
mind you i only caught a glimpse of the first goal, so im not sure
This sadly feels like a really bad re-run.
